Fresh. Authentic. Flavorful. That’s just what we do at Chili Thai, where traditions come alive right on your plate. Since 2002, we’ve been providing our community with the tastiest dishes from across the world, but the work we’ll do for you far from stops at bites packed with tastes unlike any you’ve ever experienced before. Our service is every bit as excellent as the food we serve you because we take pride in every single thing we do. So bring your appetite and get ready to cure those cravings with a little bit of spice.
The food is good, but beware when ordering to go. They include rice with the curry but you should order extra or, better yet, make some at home. They give you maybe a half cup of rice for a full tub of curry. There’s no warning they give you insufficient rice. It’s cheap and leaves a bad impression on an otherwise good experience. Making rice now before we can eat. Shame on you Chili Thai.
Went in for an early dinner. Was quickly greeted, seated, and given a nice glass of ice cold lemon water. Large menu with plenty of options. I ordered the Tom Yum soup, Fresh Rolls, and a side of Brown Rice.
For the soup I ordered a spicy level three out of possible five. Even though I like spicy stuff, I would now go with a one or a two. The soup was quite delicious. Though it needed some salt. I ordered the seafood combination. The bowl had a couple of muscles, a couple of shrimp, some medium sized scallops, sliced up pieces of calamari, plenty of vegetables, and some crab with a "k".
The fresh rolls with the accompanying peanut sauce were very nice. The chicken inside was not dry. The vegetables & lettuce were fresh and crisp.
The brown rice was not what I expected. When I make brown rice at home, it is true brown rice. This appeared to be white sticky rice that had beans of some sort added to color the white rice. Not a good option if you have diabetes. I'll know better next time.
What didn't I like? The tomatoes in the soup. Crab with a K is a cheap option that I don't think should be even considered seafood. I'd rather have it omitted if real crab is not available. I already mentioned the issues with the brown rice.
Do I recommend this restaurant? Yes. I've eaten take-out from here before and always had a good experience. This was my first dine-in experience.
Service was attentive, quick, friendly, and the food portions were large. Atmosphere is ok; an open format that could get quite loud with a lot of customers.
Next time I will not order the brown rice. But the Tom Yum soup is definitely worth a return trip.
Chili Thai has *THE BEST* Thai food I have ever had. I spent a year in Thailand too, if that counts. I went in today and I had the best Pad Thai and Glass Noodle Salad I’ve ever had in my life. I live an hour away now so I haven’t been there in awhile, but I’ll make the drive more often just for these.
This is my favorite Thai place in the area! I always get the Chili Thai fried rice and I always end up taking some home, the portion size is great! Service is always wonderful as well.
Absolutely DELICIOUS.
My wife agrees, said it’s some of the best Thai food she’s had in years. Great staff—one of them helped me with some pictures—and timely service. Very chill vibes. We came here because it was the nearest Thai place that was open for lunch, and we’ll be back again.
Excellent
This is my favorite Thai place in the area! I always get the Chili Thai fried rice and I always end up taking some home, the portion size is great! Service is always wonderful as well.
I love the Thai food from here. It's very good, and it comes out really quick. Parkings of breeze. I've had no issue getting anything I wanted off the menu.
We love Chili Thai! Best Thai in UP hands-down. Food is amazing, prices are reasonable, and service is prompt and friendly! Highly recommended!!!

Best tom-yum!! Verry nice portions, I really like how many mushrooms and prawns were in the soup, so so good, thai tea with whip cream is a must, it's all around the best thai I've had in a while!!
Awesome, quiet place. Super yummy food. Very fast service. Thai iced tea is a must try
Food amazing, service fast (took less than 10 minutes for the food at our table), staff very nice. Highly recommended.
I got the vegan tofu drunken noodles, real 5* (spicy! But yummy)
Too good, I forgot to take a picture.
I guess they recently changed their menu to serve the entrees without rice. So you have to order a side order of rice, which isn’t intuitive since it’s not clearly stated. I know this is how a lot of Thai places classically do it, but that was a surprise for me to see when I got home since that’s different than how they’ve handled it in the past. I should have checked the order at the restaurant.
The cashew chicken is yummy. Order rice with it if you want rice.
My meal was ok, not as flavorful as expected; likely my choice. Unfortunately, the meal of one of my guests apparently was overlooked in the kitchen, and when the server was asked about the meal, it hadn't been prepared with the other meals, a had to be started from scratch, eventually being served as the rest of our group was nearly finished.
My favorite Thai place! The restaurant that made my baby girl love pad Thai 😍
This is a very conveniently located Thai restaurant right in the heart of University Place. I always ask for less salt and sugar, and the chef makes the food to suite my palate. My dad, my sister, my wife, my daughter, and I always enjoy our time at Chili Thai UP! It’s the best Thai restaurant around.
The food is always great here. Every request is always followed. The peeps here are very sweet and friendly
This is such a lovely restaurant. We were a group of 6 for dinner after the Tacoma Contra Dance on a Sunday. The restaurant was so nice and quiet. Not many customers at that time. I shared the Jungle Pork and the Green Papaya Salad with a friend. It was a perfect dinner.
I will profess my undying love for this chili Thai and their staff, because they ALWAYS serve. Compared to other chili Thai’s, their food is astronomically better, show stopping, and is always so good. The pad Thai 😮💨
Their staff too are so very kind. One time I came in literally sobbing (not related to their establishment) and I was treated with so much kindness and consideration that I’ll never forget. 10/10 I’ll praise this place forvever
Food was top-notch! 10 out of 10, would eat again.
So, I had a craving for fried spring rolls since I haven't had my Thai cuisine fixs in over a year. I pulled Chili Thai's menu up via their online website and it noted that spring rolls for $4.99. Since I was at the postal office, which is close by, I decided to drive there and put in an order for spring rolls. The server informed me that the spring rolls would be $9.95; however, the only system shows $4.99 and the desktop menu shows $8.95. The server specifically asked if I wanted the fry or the fresh spring rolls, and I told her the fried ones, which I received; however, I was charged $9.95. The server informed me that the prices can change at any time despite what is being reflected on their website. I went ahead and purchased the order; however, the spring rolls were hard, stale and did not have enough vegetable stuffings. I resent the bait and switch and/or pricing discrepancies that restaurants employed to overcompensate for the lack of customer attendance.

This is a great Thai restaurant.
I had asked a high school crush to go out to dinner with me and she accepted. She liked Thai, so we just decided on this place since it was in the area she was. We met up & it was amazing. I had the pineapple chicken, can't recall the name of her dish but both were delicious. Great price, great food, I would definitely eat there again
The food is always great, and so fast! They took good care of us, for sure.
Food came quickly, service was attentive, and atmosphere was pleasant.
Basil catfish is amazing and these are probably the best drunken noodles in town. Great place for pickup or relaxed dine in with very fast and friendly service
Good food. Will return
Good customer service and food, diferente but good
First time there...the food was good and will be back again soon.
Service was excellent. Food was good, quite..great place to talk
Very good food. Attentive and friendly staff.
One of the best Pad Kee Mao I've had. The beef version was truely delicious. Loved the extra wide and tender fresh noodles and all the veggies in it. (Tomato slices, mushrooms, broccoli, red & green bells with the onions and thai basil).
First time dining here.
We were very happy with the service. Our waitress was very pleasant.
The menu is easy to read and has pictures of the selected dishes.
The price is very reasonable for such a good meal. The food was delicious. We will definitely be going back again.
Got the yellow curry and the massaman curry. Both were excellent. Finished the massaman it was so deliciuos. Service was fast. Prices were average for thai- not expensive and not cheap. Good food and good price. 👍
Their pineapple fried rice and crab rangoon are the best! I love this place!
Friendly, clean, and the food is delicious
I came here for lunch and ordered the Chicken Pat Seew, when I bit into my chicken there was a bones in it. I called and let them know and they said they'll give me a credit. Personally wanted my money back, but I was famished and asked them to remake it. I get my food go home and the first bite tastes like old fruit. How/why does savory chicken taste like that?! The noodles have little to no sauce and my veggies were not to be found. Should have checked before I left. Please be cautious when eating here.
Always a great place to eat. Food is good, service is exceptional, ambience is very relaxing.
Decent Thai food here. Fresh ingredients and very friendly servers. My go-to is pad-se-ewe, so I always eat in. Not the best dish for takeout and reheating. Always good.
Swear to God my food had a pube in it. I threw it all away.
Ordered the pad Thai and the chicken tasted so foul that I had to throw it all away. Absolutely concerning. Thinking they use old chicken. Won’t be returning.
This place is dependable for decent Thai food. I really like the papaya salad. It’s spicy. There green chili is my favorite. I like it because they use a lot of coconut milk so it’s creamy. There Pad Thai and Tum Kha soup is so, so.
Really good and flavorful. Large enough portions that I could take some home with me for later. Only complaint I had was that it was a little greasier than I expected. I ordered the pad see ewe and there was alot of grease forming at the bottom but other than that, zero complaints. Really good Thai tea, restraunt was clean and staff was friendly.
I used to love the University Place one. The quality of the food has gone totally down hill during the past year. It's really sad.
We were greeted right away which was nice. The staff was very attentive and the food was great. They have very good egg noodles.
Cons: the bathroom was super dirty and needed an update.
The yellow curry was really yummy, I got a spice level of 2 and it had just barely any spice and I for sure will go up a level next time. I will be back to try more of the curry.
I'd give a zero if I could. I ordered through Chow Now and received 2 spicy Chicken Panang dishes instead of one mild and one spicy. I'm told I cannot receive a refund because the order says 2 spicy ... I had heart surgery a month ago - there is NO way I'd order spicy. The staff on both sides were unaccomodating with a solution of picking up a new dish at the restaurant as an option. Why do you think I ordered for delivery in the first place??? I was charged a delivery fee and paid a tip - I will never order from this place again, nor will I have anything good to say!!! Chow Now the same - Door Dash delivered, so what is Chow Now anyway. Ridiculous. $45.09 for nothing!
Chili Thai is always a safe bet for a delicious meal and friendly service. So lucky to have so many delicious heart healthy choices on the menu.
Delicious. Beautiful presentation. Great owners
My favorite place to get Tom Kha soup!
Our first time at this location. The chicken Rama was delicious. Service quick and attentive. Restaurant was nicely decorated and clean. Will definitely return when in the area. Have enjoyed several Chili Thai locations. This one is in the top 3 for design/ decorations. It is the only one with a mounted flat screen tv for sports. It was unobtrusive if you were not interested but sports fans could keep an eye on a game if necessary. Not a bad accessory.
We have visited this restaurant many times in the past and had no issues. However, on our most recent visit, we ordered the pud see ew with tofu and it had a foul taste like it was very stale. We notified the waitress and she took the plate away and asked us if we wanted something else so we ordered the papaya salad. When we got the bill, we were charged for both dishes! When I asked about it, I was told that since we had eaten some of the first dish they had to charge us for it. How ridiculous! We had to taste it to know that it was bad! Definitely won’t be returning with such horrible customer service!
Phenomenal curry with great flavor! I recommend the duck curry personally if it’s your first time and you’re not sure what to get.
My go to Thai restaurant in Tacoma. Good yellow curry and super good pad Thai. Big portions and friendly staff.
Good food, God service
Excellent Thai food and exellenter staff. They are always so friendly and helpful. The inside is just down right cozy nothing too special just a very clean and functional space to work up a 5 star bead of sweat. It rarely gets busy here because they can crank out 5 dishes every 5 minutes. The high speed of service will make you do a double take at your watch.
Very yummy food! Got the fresh spring rolls--surprisingly large, filled with great flavor. Staff was kind and friendly. Well maintained restaurant. (Idk why ppl review a bad smell--this place is impeccably clean). I'd go back if I was in the area longer!
We get the duck curry whenever we’re here. One of the best duck curry we’ve tasted so far. Clean and pleasant establishment.
Just got home. No rice for any of the dishes ordered. Then started eating the Rad Nah found 2 hairs! Unacceptable!
Calamari for 9.99 is all I order here but I love it and it's a 5 star from me.
This is our go to Thai place in the area. They have a varied menu and and execute them all well. I’ve only done takeout but it doesn’t negatively impact the food.
The panang curry was awesome! Also, the staff were all very friendly. Would go back.
Wonderful food. Prompt attention. Never been there before but we will definitely go again. The crab fried rice was AMAZING. Parking was easy.
Delicious food, very clean restaurant, friendly staff.
Worst ever! Claims to not have received my to go order. Had to sit and wait. Get home to burnt food!!! I will Never go back! Poor service and awful food!!!!!
Third time I have received the wrong order for pick up/take out. Check your order before you leave. . Ordered dish with tofu was made with chicken, not acceptable for a vegetarian. No compensation offered for inconvenience of having to drive to the restaurant twice to get the correct order. Comment was “we will be more careful next time, we’ll this is the third time”.Have been a loyal customer but will not be returning due to poor customer service.
Its quiet, clean and great service!
Best Red Curry I've ever tasted.
The portion of food is tiny yet this was the most expensive order from any Thai place within ten miles, I got hard pieces of rice the pad Kee mao had literally no flavor and the take out container is barely half full. 24 dollars for a tiny portion of food with LITERALLY no flavor, Cheng Thai and royal Thai bistro are both cheaper with portions at least double the size. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!!!
Service and food are excellent
We really like the food. Service is decent. Prices are reasonable. Orders are frequently wrong. Special orders like no onions, no bean sprouts, and zero heat are often not delivered properly.
I would highly suggest you check your order thoroughly BEFORE you leave the restaurant.
Why can’t you send extra sauces when ordered? This happens a lot. I pay for it and you don’t send.
I was so torn with writing this review, I wish Google would let you rate different aspects of a restaurant. The four stars is just for the food, the customer service was terrible. I and to make this worse I had to drive back for forgotten items. I will say this, if they had a different front desk/server I would for sure visit often. I had a papaya salad, yellow curry, pad see ew, wings and a Thai iced tea. All except the wings were excellent, the wings were dry and cold like they had been sitting out for a while.
Great value, great food!!
Chili Thai has always been a staple for my family. Great food. Kind people. Peaceful atmosphere. Fair prices.
I recommend you try their Thai Coffee and Pad Thai. Yummy!
We ordered Pad Thai, Penang Curry, Garlic Chicken, and Ginger Vegetables. The Pad Thai had very little to none sauce. The Penang Curry was not rich, but very watery. The Garlic Chicken was not very very garlicky and the chicken was dry and vegetables few and not fresh tasting. Lastly, the Ginger vegetables had only a couple pieces of broccoli and one large strange mushroom, and lots of thick sliced carrots. I called to ask ONLY for the Ginger Vegetables to be replaced because there was mostly an abundance of huge thick (non-flavorfull) sliced carrots and mushy cabbage in the SMALL portioned box! To which I was told no, so sorry! I paid $70.00!! Way over priced for what you get!!!!
Amazing food, and service.
The restaurant is a nice little place and the staff was great. The food was alright. I ordered my food at a level 3 spice and it tasted like a 0 level of spice, very mild. The other dish was not supposed to be spicy and for that description perfectly.
Outstanding food wonderful and friendly staff
This is a favorite place, enjoy
Our go-to thai food place!! The food is always delicious :)
Disappointed have eatin there before and it was good, today stood on line to be seated no one was in the front so we all just stood there till I went and knock on the kitchen door. And told them they had a line of people waiting. They gave me chicken instead of shrimp the noodles were steamed not fried and came in a big slimey pile the larb was salty and fishy and dry and service was bad . I wont be going back
It was incredible.
The most horrible place to eat !! The food are so expensive and smells like SEWER .. DO NOT EAT IN THIS LOCATION !!
When I look who is cooking my food ? It was not who I expect them to be ! It was from different country
Food was very good. Service and to go order process was awful. They told everyone that they were wrong about order. Not one order was able to be picked up when customer arrived.
Great food, will be back!
We enjoy ordering dinner from here. Process are fair and the food is great!
Service was great food was great will come back I recommend it
With the pandemic and the inability to find places that have dine in this has been one of my go to places. We usually either call or order through door dash. Cheap delivery but usually I order from the app and do pick up. Love the taste. Portions leave me leftovers for the next day. Ensure to annotate if you need utensils too if you need it.
Foods good, unfortunately the last 2 times we went the orders got messed up. First time we got drunken noodles instead of Pad See Ew. We think the girl waiting ahead of us got our food. The second time I got drunken beef rather then drunken noodles. On the plus side we are trying new things, on the downside, we can never seem to get it again.
My new favorite Thai restaurant. The food is awesome.
Always a nice time. Excellent food. I always get Pad Thai and add pineapple. If you like pineapple I think you will love it.
I ordered ginger chicken and started feeling sick right after I ate it. I called them to ask if they used oyster sauce which wasn't listed in the ingredients and I am allergic to. At first she said no then I told her I was feeling sick so she asked the cook and learned that they had used it. She did not even offer to refund my money, she just said next time let us know and we'll leave it out. Please update your menu accordingly or don't go rogue with ingredients. Food allergies are serious and I don't enjoy forcing myself to throw up.
Great Food and Service.
Great food
Good food at good prices! Recommend the basil chicken and the rad nah!
Our go-to!! Great food & service
I always do takeout, and it's so fast! I've really loved everything I've eaten; great curries, yummy noodles, flavorful fried rice. It took going to several places and being disappointed, and I'm so glad I found Chili Thai; it's my reliable go to!
So Delicious! One of my very favorite Thai restaurants in Tacoma! The staff here is great too!
Thanks for the rotten food on this Monday night. Never again, requesting a refund it’s so gross.
Consistently good food!
They're doing everything they can to make us feel at home in these trying times.
The seating arrangements are far enough apart that you can't really hear what other people are talking about and when your brief wait for your food is over, everything else falls away as your tongue reaches nirvana.
The chicken, beef and shrimp are all cooked really well. The veggies are crisp when they're supposed to be and warm and slightly soft when called for.
The fresh spring rolls are perfect size with three rolls evenly split. The peanut butter sauce is thick and warm and can really only get better with some crushed peanuts.
Take your six year old and your spouse and have a downright good meal!
The female greeter wore a mask below her nose, and the one older male staff behind the counter was not wearing g a mask at all. Not acceptable at a food establishment, so we did not support them.
Very friendly people and delicious food. Wonderful setting to have an experience of Thai culture.
Great customer service and food
Big portions
Love these guys. The food is always very fresh and delicious. Customer service is 5 stars. Glad we have them in UP.
I never see many people in here however it's close so I decided to try.. The crab Rangoon were delicious! The pad Thai was good, but not the best I've had. I may try something else in the future.
They had great food and their service was excellent.
Nice people, great food!
Very good food and excellent service.
Love Chili Thai!!
Foods is very good, decor is a little dated to though
Good food
The food was excellent and fresh! The vegetables had a crunch to them which was nice, plenty of flavor. I had the fried rice with chicken, and spring rolls as an appetizer with peanut sauce. Highly recommend this location!
Delish
Great food, one of my favorite thai places for sure. Ordered food to go, but I was so hungry I ordered a couple of appetizers to eat there while I waited for my food. They ended up sitting me at the table and serving me water and made sure it was full even though i wasn't ordering a meal to eat there. I was so happy with that little gesture that i tipped them as if they served me dinner. I thoroughly appreciated that bit of hospitality.
If you are a vegan or vegetarian I would not eat here. I have had two orders of their vegetarian food (one was just steamed vegetables) and I found pieces of chicken in that and in the vegetable stir fry.
Great food and fair prices.
food is very tasty.
No frills. Good food.
Great service and food !!
I went to the resterant, Monday July 15 and was not served. I waited at the door with another couple, they were seated. I went to the bathroom, came out and waited again. Another couple came in the door and they were addressed and served
I walked out, and will never come back
The food is just so so and you have to buy extra rice with curry dishes. There is tastier food and better service elsewhere.
