This place used to be our favorite Thai place in Fairfax but after our last visit, it quickly became somewhere we will never visit again. After enjoying our delicious pad thai and cashew pork we asked for the check and we're surprised by the total. A 20% tip had been added without our prior knowledge and upon consulting the menu we only noticed a mandatory gratuity for parties larger than 6. We asked our waitress why a 20% tip was added and she explained that because after our last visit we did not tip she added it for us. I told her that a tip is not a requirement at any restaurant and it was a reflection of our opinion of the service. I then asked for the manager and when she came she told us the same thing. I explained the same point about a tip never being required and told her that I would have tipped had they not pulled this on us. She said that she would then remove it if we tipped and I informed her that I would not tip after this happened but she still needed to remove the tip they added. She then told me how they only pay the waiters $3/hrs and the tips were how they made money. I informed her that a tip is never required and that it is not my responsibility to pay the employees. I told her if she didn't remove the tip I would contact the police and she told me to go ahead. Upon contacting the non emergency line she immediately provided a check without the added tip and I informed the police I no longer needed their assistance. She then proceeded to sarcastically say have a wonderful day. At the end of the day I strongly recommend nobody give their business to this location because of this blatant disrespect.
This is the best Thai restaurant I have ever been to in the DMV area! The interior of restaurant is gorgeous and clean. The Panang curry and Kanom Jeeb were mind blowingly good! Also highly recommend the Pikachu noodles as they are one of my favorites on the menu. Drunken noodles is solid. Their thai tea is rich in flavor and NOT watered down as i’ve had in other restaurants. I do not give out 5 stars quite easily and this restaurant has definitely earned it. I have raved about and taken people to this restaurant and they have and i quote “this is the best thai food Ive ever had”. I will continue to explore the menu. Which is not hard to do as they have consistently put out excellent food. The customer service is unmatched. You see that the people who work there care about the restaurant and it shows. Best in the DMV. Highly recommend.
Nan Thai Hendron provided a wonderful dining experience for our party of 5. The Duck fried rice was absolutely delicious and left us wanting more. We were pleasantly surprised when the restaurant offered us special appetizers on the house, which added a delightful touch to our meal.
The service was attentive and friendly, making us feel welcomed throughout our visit. The staff's knowledge of the menu and recommendations were helpful in guiding our choices.
The taste of the food was indeed great, and each dish was expertly prepared with quality ingredients. The flavors were authentic and rich, showcasing the chef's skill and dedication to their craft.
While the overall experience was fantastic, we felt that a bit more variety in the menu could have elevated the dining adventure even further.
All in all, Nan Thai Hendron is a top-notch Thai restaurant with delicious dishes and excellent service. If you're a fan of Thai cuisine, it's definitely worth a visit!
I had a great experience in the middle of the week day. Servers were attentive and very cheerful, good atmosphere. I had the delicious Tom Yum Noodle Soup big bowl and a Thai iced tea. Super satisfying and delicious!
Best Thai food! Excellent service. Been coming here for more than 3 years now!
The best Basil Fried rice in the Herndon and Reston area. I am a Thai food lover so I try all the Thai places in the area I live in. The basil fries rice here is really good. All the other Thai places (including the expensive ones) always dry out their basil fries rice and there isn’t much flavor. But this place cooks the fried rice perfectly. The rice is browned, soft, and has a lot of basil flavor. The drunken noodles and curries are also very good here. Overall very good price and nice place to sit down and eat or get takeout.
Muy rica la comida, servicio muy amable únicamente que llevan uno por uno los platillos. Consideren eso al ir grupos grandes.
Friendly service and such tasty food! Can’t go wrong with their curries, especially the Panang. Ginger beef has become a recent fave of mine - great if you love ginger. My favorite thai place!
Local Thai restaurant
The restaurant is clean and the service is great.
Food is excellent.
Had the chicken satay and Pad See Ew (chicken )

Absolutely the best Thai in the DMV.
Great food. Food perfectly cooked. Great appetizers. The crispy duck and fried rice were amazing. Sticky rice and mango mousse are a must try. If you like Thai food, you have to visit this place.
The food is excellent, the most attentive service of any restaurant.
Please order the Drunken noodles and Crispy Duck. The spicy level is just right. It is very good and my personal go to. Consistency is the name of the game here.
Best Thai style papaya salad in DC Metro
I had a great experience in the middle of the week day. Servers were attentive and very cheerful, good atmosphere. I had the delicious Tom Yum Noodle Soup big bowl and a Thai iced tea. Super satisfying and delicious!
Had a great meal here. Service was great and the restaurant was cute. Food was yummy and I will be back!
My favorite thai place in Herndon, I love the lunch menu.
This place hits the spot. We go here at least once a week and have never been disappointed. Great food. The curries are thick and delicious.
We love it.!
We try a lot of Thai places and we keep coming back here because it is the most consistent. The food is not overly salty like other places. The panang curry is creamy and delicious. The portion sizes are great and the service is friendly. The Thai tea is a bit too sweet for my liking but that’s my only complaint thus far.
A lovely experience every time.
Amazing wings at this joint. I'd recommend this place for bubble tea and wings!
Better than others.

Best panang curry I’ve had. Got the order thru Grubhub and I was very happy we found this place.
I went on the 2nd of June with my family of 6. I ordered the crispy duck Kapow level 4 spice, and one of my sisters got the Panang Shrimp Mild spice and the other got the Red Hot Curry level 3 spice. After eating the duck meat, I felt a little sick, and the dish was barely spicy, my sister who got the Panang Shrimp, said that her dish was insanely spicy and couldn’t eat it, my other sister who got the Curry said that hers was barely spicy. I believe the chef got the spice levels wrong.
Got delivery and it was some of the best quality takeout I've ever had, very tasty and still hot. Will definitely be ordering again!
Got delivery from them and it was wonderful. The fried tofu was still somewhat crispy and the duck was very juicy and crispy. Flavors were great, a bit on the sweeter side. If you like spicy foods, order the spiciest option as it is not overwhelmingly spicy by any means.
The food was very very good. Costumer service was amazing. Very friendly n nice service I got. If I ever visit the VA again will differently eat from Nan thai resturant. I wanted my fried rice spicy n they did just that. Lovely n clean resturant nice workers.
Great place! Food is very tasty, would really recommend to try fried calamari for starters. It is a family owned restaurant and it shows - high attention to details and to quality of all the dishes, lovely atmosphere. Recommend!
We are regulars, and we love the friendly service and good food.
I stopped at Nan Thai few days ago after a long day of work hoping to have some pad thai. It was the worst pad thai I ever tasted and I had a ton of pad thais in my life. They made it spicy hot to the point of `being inedible. And I am no stranger to spicy foods. I ended up trashing it. Also, strangely, they brought the pad thai out as a to go dish. I did not order it as a to go. Consequently, I did not feel there was much of a service or an atmosphere. This place is conveniently located but I do not think we will be going there.
I love their food! It always so flavorful and a joy to come here. The calamari is great and the pork belly kapow is awesome. My date loves the crab fried rice as well.
Forgot to take pictures, but best food in worldgate. Not the super authentic Thai but good for this area. Best place if you want something Asian and if you’re sick of sandwiches and steaks.
Servers route unprofessionall They should fix this situation.!
Respect for everyone!
This is a great place to dine in and enjoy authentic Thai cuisine. It was easy for my family to be seated, as I noticed most of their business is to go. The waitress was very polite and perfectly fluent in both English and Thai. We had Crab Rangoon, Calamari, Chicken Fried Rice, Pad See Ew, and Crying Tiger. Each made fresh, delicious, and authentic Thai style, full of flavor. I highly recommend any of those dishes.
Food is delicious and the staff is always Above and beyond with their service and friendliness
Fast, friendly and great food!
I'm giving this place 2 Stars, because I got really sick from the food I ate there. I also don't think I'll be returning since I got food poisoning. Maybe the food agrees with other people's tummy but not mine. I've had thai spicey for many years. This is the very first time that it gave me really horrible stomach issues.
so good
Ordered drunken noodles with chicken and they came immersed in liquid. Drunken noodles r suppose to drink that sauce not throw it out lol
Worst drunken noodles I ever had in Thai restaurant..
Came in for a quick lunch and everything was amazing! Be warned, when you ask for extra hot, it’s definitely Thai hot. Which was sooo exciting to finally be at a restaurant that doesn’t hold back on the heat! But besides the perfect heat level, the flavors were also amazing. I ordered green curry with chicken and my boyfriend got fire red curry with pork belly. Both were so tasty :)
I also tried the lychee cocktail which was very refreshing and well balanced. 10/10 recommend.
Ordered basil fried rice and pad thai. Very bland food. Lemongrass soup (tom yum) is very mediocre. Service is good though they are really nice!
We had the tofu green curry, tofu pad thai, chicken ka pow. All three dishes were delicious. The pad thai noodles were perfectly cooked with generous fresh veggies. Best thai food we have had in the states.
The food isn’t the best Thai I’ve had or the worst; I’d give it a B-. The server was attentive and the food came out quickly. I ordered tofu green curry and a hot tea. There was too much tofu and not enough veggies in the curry, meh, whatever. I was surprised to learn that the tofu is deep fried, so don’t think tofu in a curry is healthy!
But, when the bill came, I was FLOORED that they charged me $5 for a basic tea bag and hot water. Like $2, even $3, I can fathom, but $5 for a generic Asian grocery store tea bag?? Absolutely ridiculous pricing.
This is a pretty good Thai restaurant! I particularly like the pad see ew and green curry from here, but they have an awesome crispy pork belly rice as well. Love their thai iced tea as well. I usually order delivery or pickup from here, but recently I dined in and enjoyed their small colourful restaurant in person. The wait for food was a bit too long for my liking but the server was very attentive. Would come again!
I have their lunch special here about once a week. The staff is quick and professional. The food is fast and good. The facility is clean but not too fancy, which is pretty much what I'm looking for.
Remarkably good Thai food. Came out quick. Shady outdoor eating area.
My initial experience with this restaurant was a bit of a mixed bag at first. On one hand the fresh summer rolls that we ordered were very Bland and filled with what mostly appeared to be iceberg lettuce. I would certainly not order them again. On the other hand, was the tum yum soup ( tum yum pak.. ie vegetables) and that turned out to be one of the best tum yums I have ever had. The broth was amazing and filled with the perfect amount of spices and heat. The soup was loaded with fresh vegetables and were perfectly cooked with crunch. I will continue to venture to this restaurant and experience other items on the menu and update as I go along.

Good food and good service.
great food and service .
Consistently the best thai in NOVA. I keep trying other places and keep regretting it.
Had great food and service. Love the Rangoon and drunken noodles!
Excellent food a service
Huge portions, absolutely delicious. We showed up with 4 adults and rowdy 4 year old twins and the service was kind and patient.
The food is ok. The service is not bad but the prices doesnt match the food. The crispy pork salad that used to be my favorite everytimes they served different sometimes lettuces, even one time with a banana leaf on the botton. And 7 dollar for a thai tea 90 % ice 10 % the tea is a no for me.
Didn't know that this small place existed until now. Nan Thai is my new favorite restaurant. The service and food were phenomenal. I highly recommend their Drunken noodles and Pad Thai especially. Will be becoming a regular here for sure. This place is amazing and looking forward to my next visit.
Great food, fast service, especially for a lunch crunch.
Food is always top notch
The food was phenomenal. There was nothing to complain about the service and atmosphere. It's definitely a place I'll go back to often.
The best pineapple fried rice I ever ate. Unreal.
Spicy level 3 isn't very hot. The crispy duck is to die for as is the lemonade tea.
Awesome food and great service!
Holy smokes!!! This is the best Thai food I've ever had!! From the panang curry, to the weird lemonade, to the spring rolls...ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! I'm totally addicted
Mediocre tasting duck dish and small portions for what you pay! There are much, much better Thai cuisine options in Herndon.
Great hole in the wall.
Great customer service
Great food must go during Lunch time
The seafood in my dish was chewy and overcooked
awesome tofu appetizers, it was perfectly fried and was great with the sauce. also enjoyed the vegetable Tom ka soup
First time eating here.. I tried pad thai and Thai tea. The tea is nothing special and too sweet. For me, the price is quite high. Besides that, I think the server or owner talks very loud and noisy.. it makes me quite uncomfortable.. Overall, it's not a good try to me!!
Disappointed at NanThai
I lived in Ashburn After COVID, I just went to Tara Thai now they changed name to NaN Thai.. I am ok with Price due to Inflation but I felt very bad with Quantity i paid $15 Plus tax and i got food half of it.. and Taste is just ok..
noting going back for it.
Won’t Recommend..Quality & Quantity is changed I am missing Original Tara Thai . I which they change the Quality of the Food Taste
I love the atmosphere of this restaurant. It's so cute and fun!
It's delicious food with large portions. Priced very reasonable. Their cocktails are fun and inventive. And I love their boba tea.
AMAZING!
I have ordered beef brocoli through Ubereats. Because on Ubereats, this restaurant said 1+1 promotion of this food. And usually it is more expensive bcz of 1+1 promotion than usual. And only 1 food arrived. The promotion became a lie. I got a refund right away. Bad experience.
Food is excellent
The service is excellent. The hospitality is second to none. You must dine there or carry out. The experience is awesome. I eat there at least once a week. I can't say enough about this establishment . You'll love it.
If you’re looking for the best local Thai food in Fairfax County, it’s Nan Thai. As you walk in, you’ll be greeted by the attentive crew. Their menu is great, prices are reasonable and the serving size is always generous. Thanks you guys for always taking care of our Thai food cravings. You all rock 🔥
They just don't see you. Poor service
Very poor service
Service was excellent and food was delicious. I had the spicy eggplant and it was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of spiciness.
Ordered Pad Thai with Chicken. They Made it too sweet, it lost the original flavour. Thai Cuisine is my all time favourite since 2005.
This dinner disappointed.
The atmosphere was really great at this restaurant! They were very accommodating for our large party of 8. The staff were so friendly as well.
The food was so delicious and the portions are big so I got to take some home too! I would definitely recommend this place to everyone I know.
Great Panang Curry, lunch menu is nice and quick service.
Ambience, taste of food and the customer service is great! One of a kind garlic chicken wings, crab fried rice are our favorites. If you like spicy food, try Taj Mahal fried rice. Party of 5 can expect 15% tip automatically charged in the final check. Car parking easy near the restaurant. Must visit Thai restaurant in herndon area.
amazing food!
I love Thai food and this restaurant was pretty authentic
I stumbled upon this place by accident, and I'm glad I did. As a Thai person, I don't usually eat at a Thai restaurant as it's always lead to disappointment. However, this is the best Thai food I've ever had at a restaurant outside of Thailand. I live in Loudoun but gladly drive here whenever I feel like getting a taste of home.
Papaya salad? Amazing. Fast service, great atmosphere.
Loved the food and service, however, I did think the prices were on the high side. Overall, very good.. just be prepared for the bill. Note ours was a late lunch and past the normal lunch hour.
Another Nova Thai flop for the books:
It was a beautiful day for a date with my wife. It's like unwinding after a long week at work. This restaurant is conveniently located near an AMC theater, making it a nice choice for a quick snack before or after a movie. That's exactly what we did.
My personal experience with Thai food in Northern Virginia has been mediocre at best. And this eatery did not disappoint us. All of the dishes we ordered seemed to have a lot of brown sugar or teriyaki sauce in them. We requested level 4 of their spicy scale, which ranged from 1 to 5, with 5 being the hottest. Our dinner was as sugary as McDonald's soft serve ice cream.
If that's one of their hottest items, I can't imagine what their mild food tastes like. I'm not sure why they bother asking what level of spice I want if they're just going to smother the food in sugar. Isn't it normal to ask for spicy and get it?
We split the zebb wings and basil bomb. Wings were not bad. However, Basil Bomb was a huge letdown. We didn't like the combination of chewy squid, dry-ish shrimp, and strange sauce. It was supposed to come with fish, but none were found. On the plate, our fishing method was unsuccessful!
There was a lot of Basil leaf, as the name suggests, but for some strange reason, we didn't smell it much. You should be able to smell it from miles away based on the amount of Basil leaf on the item, but sitting 1 ft away from it, we failed; or rather, the item failed us.
Perhaps the food is suitable for Caucasian tongues, but not for those from Eastern Asia. Another flop for Nova Thai!
I have traveled to four of the seven continents (not to brag, but I did) and will only eat the local foods there. Nan Thai never fails to deliver an excellent dish! It's my first thought whenever someone says "Thai". The atmosphere is chill, with good music. The staff is excellent! They have never messed up an order of mine. I admit I've been ordering to-go more than I do sit inside, but even still every delivery has been utterly scrumptious!!! And they never forget the chili powder or peppers when I ask!
My tips if you are new to Thai/Nan Thai:
*Taste the food before you start putting a lot of "extra seasoning/sauce" on it.
*If you must add extra, add a little at a time, cause a little goes a long way for someone not used to the internal fire that 'Thai Spicy' can rage. My blood type is Hot Sauce, so I love a good bowl of Thai hot food!
*Fish Sauce is salty. I love it, but have to be careful of the amount because of my blood pressure. Do not dump fish sauce onto your food.
*Don't drink water until the end. If you have it too spicy, I recommend a Thai tea. The creamy dairy will quench that flame on your tongue. Plus Thai tea is sweet and delicious. Thai tea (or any sweet drink) will "cut" the salty flavor better than water will. Even pineapple will cut salty taste better than water. Water is for after the meal, in my opinion.
Let me explain my photos:
The drink is the Butterfly Lemonade. This is a very sweet and delicious drink! I loved it and it's pretty! The second photo is Drunken Lo Mein. I usually get the Kee Mao Drunken Noodles because I adore noodles and the original are wide and flat. However, using the lo mein noodles doesn't take away from the deliciousness. I felt like I had even more noodles than ever! It was a Noodle-plosion! Now that last picture will be the end of me. I love soft shell crabs more than anything I've ever eaten. While I love the Korean mayak crab more, Nan Thai's softshell crab is my buddy. I just wish they came in King Crab size!
Thank you, Nan Thai! I have always enjoyed your meals!
Nice people, great food, so many vegan options. I didn't give the 5 stars because the email I received after I ordered the food gave me a wrong address for the restaurant, I was visiting the area and for me was the first time I ordered food from them, so I wasted a lot of time to get from that wrong location to the real one. Pay attention if you are not familiar with the restaurant and the area!
Panang is outstanding
Really enjoyed the food. Will be returning!
Tropical themed Thai restaurant. My Thai place of choice in the area. Have been coming back here for years now, and I am always happy with the food and service
Best thai restaurant in the area for sure. I drive from loudoun just for Nan Thai’s food. I’ve tried 3 dishes so far and all of them have been very tasty.
Good service and good food.
Completely blown away by the quality of this Thai food. I have a favorite Thai restaurant here now. I had softshell crab curry and a papaya salad. Both as perfect as they can get. Parking is a little tough but worth it. Mango sticky rice was absolutely on point. We had some kind of passion fruit lemonades and they were so refreshing! Forgot to take a picture because I ate it up so quick lol. GO HERE.
The Boba tea is very watery...
Very attentive and kind. The food is amazing and the setting is so cute!
Poor customer service
Overall good restaurant. Family run and they seem to care about their customers. Atmosphere is a bit diner like so that is a minus but you get a good value. Menu is organized a bit weirdly in my opinion, making a bit difficult to choose an item but the food was good and fresh.
All three of my Thai teas spilled into the food bag which soaked through and ripped the bag and then proceeded to collect as a puddle in the plastic bag. Furthermore I ordered the vegan pad Thai and got the vegetable pad Thai which was loaded with a bunch of food items I did not want! Ugh!
Really great drunken noodles, nice flavor and just spicy enough
I'm always surprised when I go to Nan Thai because they are rarely busy. I think it's because it's in the Worldgate Center in Herndon with miserable parking. That said, it's well worth the inconvenience because the food is excellent at a reasonable price.
Love this place! It's had a rebrand in the past year I believe and with the updates they've made changes/additions to the menu which are amazing. I recommend the duck drunken noodles & the po tak soup (soup is not in the in person menu but is online so definitely check it out online before going into the restaurant). The service was also very friendly and the atmosphere is great inside 👍
Nan Thai is absolutely an amazing place. The owner and staff is super friendly. We have been going there for as long as I can remember. Since the Tara Thai days till Nan Thai the food, service and ambience has only gotten better. Keep it up Nan Thai team.
We had fire red chicken curry, chicken satay and spring roll. Decent Thai food near Herndon.
Service was great and the Pad Thai was the best I’ve ever had!
The aroma of the amazing food hits you as soon as you walk in. Once dinner is served you won't be disappointed
Excellent experience with the food , staff and atmosphere .Defiantly will be back and strongly recommend .
The food was great!! Be sure to try the Duck Drunken Noodles and Pineapple Fried Rice.
