I had the Sarong Sawatdee Special and the Fisherman’s delight. The appetizer Sarong Sawatdee Special was fun, new to me, and delicious. Seafood and veggies were fresh and not frozen in the fisherman’s delight. I’d highly recommend it.
Sarong Sawatdee Special (#6) 10
Formerly reserved for royalty in Thalland. Seasoned chicken wrapped in fine crispy noodles & deep fried. Four per serving.
Fisherman's Delight (#sp5) 26
Shrimp, scallops & squid stir-fried with spicy red curry. Served with steamed vegetables.
The curry had an amazing flavor. We had a large party and I was a little disappointed that our food came out at all different times
but they did have noted that they were short staffed and at least the food was fresh when it got to the table. I definitely plan to go back to try more dishes.
Their online menu is labeled with gluten free options, that alone deserves is a 5-star rating!
So many restaurants don't do this and we are thankful they took the time to do so. When we order, there is no hassle of asking about if a dish is gluten free or if they can modify it for our dietary needs!
Also, the food tastes amazing!
Let me start off by saying that I've been to other Sawatdee locations in Minneapolis and Bloomington, and my experiences there have always been delightful.
That being said, I do not know what's going on at the Saint Paul location. I've gotten takeout from here a few times and the hosts sometimes have unfriendly/annoyed vibes; the host tonight here was okay. I got the pad thai and the fresh spring rolls. Took them home and discovered that not only were the rolls full of questionable produce, saw that they were BOTH torn. Massively. As in, I have no idea how this got out of the kitchen, and put in a bag. For $30 worth of food, is it too much to ask for my spring rolls to not have giant rolls in them?
The service was incredible and the Thai for Two on Tuesday's was a fabulous deal. Our server was kind and checked in the perfect amount. The food was really good. The unfried spring roll was so good! I want to go back and order a whole plate of those. I had the Dirty Shrimp, which was a bit strange and not a lot of edible food other than the shrimp itself. The flavor was wonderful though and I loved the sauce with rice. My daughter ordered the scallops and shrimp dish and that was so yummy! I would definitely come back to experience other dishes.
Sawatdee and their recipes have always been enjoyable. This location had friendly staff that gave epic service. Their options are also plentiful and weren't restricting for those in my party that had restrictive diets. I'd definitely return again! Thanks much to the crew and all they do to serve the community.
Muy mal servicio Otoniel Hernández, muy arrogante y grosero si se pone que es un servio al cliente, no nos puso ni tenedores ni servilletas. Es muy mal educado y no nos dejaron comer en el lugar.

Edit to add, today they took care of me without me asking, will try again in the future! Leaving as a 3 star but 5 star customer service!
Got takeout, the green curry tasted good but was full of frozen carrots and peas and the chicken looked different (was all shredded).
Ordered cream cheese wontons, didn't receive those and mistakingly received an order of veggie spring rolls that were mostly lettuce and a few shredded carrots.
Pad Thai was good and as expected.
I've been to other locations without issues so not sure if it was an off night here or they do things differently between Sawatdee restaurants

Way better thai restaurants along University or Rice Street for that matter. Average at best.
The food used to be great but now it’s average. Went to the buffet, so that might be part of the reason. Service was pretty good. Good tea.
I DoorDashed pad Thai and fresh spring rolls.
I don’t like that they don’t allow you to opt out of bean sprouts. So I had to pick those off.
The pad Thai itself is ok. It’s a little soupy with some chili flakes on top… not cooked with the pad thai. The flavor is ok.
The fresh spring rolls seem to be possibly premade? The rice wrap is a little hard. I’ll give it another try sometime in the future.
Edit: spring rolls were hard. Heck to the no will I be wasting my money on that again.
I really enjoyed the food (buffet) cool place worth the stop. I'll go again for happy hour!
I has a tasty meal that was prepared well. My hubby also enjoyed his meal. We love Sawatdee! ❤️
Be cautious. This is not fresh or good thai food. The waitress was new and trying her best. THE KITCHEN is using poor quality product and does not have good recipes. We tried spring rolls, shrimp soup and red curry. None of the dishes were above a 1 star. Do not eat the pork, it did not taste right.
Our server, Jools, was the sweetest. We enjoyed his mannerisms and, may I say, his cute looks! The food and drinks were fantastic and everything came out quickly.
I ordered the Panang curry for take out and although the flavor is good, they LOADED it with green beans and literally less than half of it was sauce. They should call the dish “Panang Green Beans”. The sauce is the best part! Super bummed and probably will go elsewhere for my curry.
Good portion size and taste great for the price! Good service.
Online menu did not say that onions/shallots(?) were in a dish, so I didn’t ask for them to be out. Took some time to pick them out-I have sensory issues & their texture is one of them, it’s not a huge deal. I do wish their menu was more comprehensive of their ingredients, though ☀️

Had Jules as a server and I’m not kidding you the best service I ever had. Ordered from the happy hour menu - excellent value, came out super fast and hot and fresh. Chicken satay and egg rolls. Very very good. Came in at $20 with a drink.
Pad Thai with chicken and fresh spring rolls with shrimp and pork. Excellent again.
Perfect Vegan Pad Thai. The Atmosphere Was Awesome. Could Live'n Up A Bet. By Implementing Different Universal Music Or Themes. It could be a little bit more warming to all new Guest Coming For The First Time. RareLove Is Definitely Important & Server Nate Is Awesome. Request His Area.

Can't go wrong here. Stop looking at reviews and go! Remember: Spring rolls. Sticky rice.
There was definitely a smell I had to ignore to enjoy my food. My waiter was really nice but he never took one dirty plate off the table. I watched him take care of another table. He just brought out a tub to collect all the dishes from that table at once when they left. The other waiter was really nice and had sat us at our table in the beginning. He filled our waters when they were low. The food was ok but a little overly heavy on the oil and the appetizer was very hard deep fried. Something later in the meal smelled very good coming from the kitchen. I should have asked what it was.
There's better Thai food. Imo- noodles has better pad Thai. Idk why this is so highly rated. I eat here at least twice a year. For too long now, it has been subpar.

Paradise Chicken Wings 😋
Did take out to make it a side for my home made fried rice. It made a supper into a fancy dinner. Wings were filling and delicious!
I love Sawatdee food, always have. This time was awful. My food was good. But my husband got fisherman’s delight as he has many times, and the whole dish is different no more crab claws and these very large pieces of squid (I assume) like 2” long. And the sprongs seemed like they were laying around for long time and they just threw em back in the deep fryer. Thai for 2 includes a bottle of wine and we asked for a sweet red wine with no up charge. And we got a dry white. The server seemed new, didn’t know what to offer. All the shades were pulled closed on an already rainy evening. Just all around bummer.
I don't think I've ever thrown away take out food or written a negative food review before, but here we go. Maybe it's an off night for them... I travel constantly and I've had my favorite dish pad see ew at well over 50 restaurants. This was exceptionally different, and worse. The noodles they are using are awful and thin, not wide, tender, and stretchy. (Not even sure they are rice noodles... they look and feel more like a dehydrated fettucine.) The noodles were also undercooked, stained (not coated), and looked like they never saw a wok or a flame, no charring. Ordered 5/5 spicy and it's just not hot. I can't taste or see any Thai chillies, the only flavor here is black pepper. The sauce was super thin and flavorless, was only mildly sweet, and did not taste like any kind of soy sauce. The fried tofu was flavorless and overcooked. The broccoli also never saw a flame or hot surface, looks and tastes like it was boiled or steamed. The small amount of egg present was cooked fine, but soggy from the large amount of black pepper water. I'm certainly not an expert in making Thai food, but I think the restaurant could source better rice noodles, use Thai chillies instead of black pepper, marinate their tofu, fry their tofu for less time, thicken and adjust their sauce recipe, and use a hot hot hot wok to cook and char the noodles, broccoli, tofu, and egg. I'm going to try to finish the broccoli and toss the rest. Disappointing for such a simple dish. $16.50 after tax.
Edit: On first glance the reviews for this restaurant seemed pretty positive so I thought my experience was isolated, but scrolling through them I see now that they are overwhelmingly negative and have been for some time. Something suspicious is going on with their total star rating which is not consistent with the actual reviews. And, this restaurant is doing nothing in response to the feedback provided. Their food is bad and they don't care.
I ordered here for a pick up i work right by the location i put certain substitutions on my order when presented with my order it was incorrected i asked for no peanuts and there was peanuts lady had an attitude and took my food tossed it and acted like i was a problem asked for my receipt the was online it was a total mess wont be back and i eat here often never have i ever been treated lke i was today
Accused of not paying for our food when we picked up our takeout order tonight. We HAD to pay online in advance of placing our order, so that wasn’t even possible. Comment was directed at my partner (black male) by an Asian woman on staff who was yelling across the restaurant. Food was great but that was a hell of a meet and greet and a first for us. I won’t tip in advance anymore.
I ordered takeout and prepaid online. Host had a bit of an attitude; he made me sign credit card receipt but it turns out he was only to try to get me to tip (on a takeout order), as he very openly threw the receipt away after I didn't tip. That just came across as tacky and petty.
Cream cheese rangoon was tasty but pad thai was extremely dry and not the most flavorful.
I get takeout here because it's on the walk from work back to my hotel. That would be my only reason to eat here again. If I was mobile or wasn't in the immediate area already, I'd definitely look for a better Thai restaurant.
Great takeout!
Enjoyed dinner.
My favorite Thai restaurant! The Pad Thai is delicious and so are the egg rolls.
Amazing food
Came here with my sister for lunch. Split pad thai with mock duck, it was delicious! Speedy and kind service. Not busy at all.
Awesome food, and a wonderful server. Great location in St Paul, with parking nearby. The restaurant is older and could use some work, but clean.
My party had the My Thai and Monkey Lover cocktails. Both were strong and sweet, the Monkey Lover was our preferred of the two, which had a milder and smoother taste.
We had the fried vegetarian spring rolls for an appetizer. They came out hot and crispy with everything you’d expect in a fried spring roll.
For entrees, we had the Thai fried rice with chicken and an add-on of basil, the vegetable red curry without bamboo shoots, and the Rad Naa with chicken. We asked for the first two dishes to be at a spice level three and the third dish to be at a spice level of four.
The food wasn’t spicy at all but came out fairly quickly. The red curry was good. The fried rice was rather oily and a bit bland. The Rad Naa comes with American broccoli as opposed to Chinese broccoli. I had never seen Rad Naa server in a soup bowl before, but there was definitely a lot of sauce that was fairly salty and one-note. However, the noodles were cooked well and had a pleasant texture.
We came on Christmas Eve and were fortunate to have excellent service.
After Church on Sunday evening November 26, my girlfriend and I stopped by to eat dinner at this restaurant. The waiter found us a table and attended to us. The food was okay. The appetizers (spicy Noodles) were great. My girlfriend did not like the Thai Roast Duck because it had more bones and fat than meat with grayish sauce. The main reason for the low rating was on safety especially with the recent national emphasis it. My girlfriend and I felt very unsafe throughout the evening. It was very easy for non-seated guests to within seconds open the front door and enter the dinning area (where everyone is eating) without being approached by a staff person. There was an unhoused person who entered the restaurant 3 times in 5 minutes apart and came to the dinning area asking people for money. From prior experiences, if he was very angry at our decline to give money, he would have spit in our face or food. From what's happening in society today, he would have pulled a gun and asked for our money. We informed the waiter about the unhoused person frequently coming into the dinning area asking everyone for money. The waiter said he had spoken to him about it but he keeps coming back. I took the waiter to report it to the police and to redesign the ease of access between the front door to the dinning area and people required to see a staff person before entering the dinning area. Also, it looks like there is only the front door to exit if there was an emergency. This lack of safety in the restaurant is the reason for my lowest ratings. With this knowledge, my girlfriend and I do not plan on stopping by ever until changes are made on safety.
Great food as always
Ambiance is kind of bleek
I'm an delivery driver, I came to pick up an order on 12/16/23 in the mid afternoon, as driver the only time we can use the bathroom is when picking up at restaurants. I asked the white young curly hair clerk if I can use their restroom he said "it is only for paying customers"
I said I'm a driver helping to deliver your food. He said "Sorry but that it is the policy dictated by the owner". It is a sad state of affairs when you can only use the restroom if certain conditions are met at this business. If I'm not worthly of using your bathroon then I won't be delivering for Sawatdee again.
MJ.
My favorite pad Thiai around
My friend and I decided to go here for lunch. We both ordered pho and wished that we didn't. The broth didn't have your aromatics in it so it just wasn't great. The noodles they use seem to be pad thai noodles, not your average pho noodles. The resturant is super cute though. Their lunch buffet looked super appetizing, we wish we did that instead. If you go here, I strongly reccomend you skip out on the pho and try their other foods. Service is super good!
Sarongs were burned and missing sauce. Potstickers were overdone, rubbery. Ate three bites and the rest went in the trash. The following day, I was overcome with awful food poisoning. Beware when eating here. I’m so sad because I’ve had good experiences at other Sawatdee locations but now will likely never return to any.
Deliciosa comida.
Food at either location is delicious. But I find service better at this location.
Food is still as good as always. I don't know if there is better pad Thai anywhere in the cities
Phenominal food
I've always gotten great food from here. Reasonably priced and never a problem.
Lovely lunch!
They have the best food. If you've never been here, you have to check it out. If you have been here, you know.
Friendly waiter. Food was decent. Very small amount of food for $45. Plum wine was really good (very sweet). Cheesecake was $8 even tho it didn't come with the mango as advertised. Could have made a whole cake for that price at home. Appetizer for 2 had 6 small items as shown.
Food needs more spice and flavor. Good portions.
I ordered Thai roast duck and got roast chicken. Chicken was good but it's the dishonesty that got me. Big difference between chicken and duck.
Got the Pad See Yew as it's a favorite of mine. Sadly here I took maybe 4 or 5 bites and was not able to eat more of it. There was almost zero flavor. Felt like I was eating over boiled chicken with plain noodles. The noodles were under cooked and drenched in a flavorless sauce. I ordered a spice level 4 and there was almost zero spice on it. I'm used to authentic Thai food making me sweat a bit, where as this I feel like I could feed to my 4 year old nephew. My coworker got the Pad Thai and had similar complaints.
This is the closest Thai restaurant to my office so a little disappointed. But with the amount of Thai restraints in the cities don't think I'll be coming back here. From looking at the reviews, I'm probably not the target demographic for this restaurant.
Update:
I didn't want to just throw away 17 bucks, so when I got home I threw it in the wok and added some fish sauce and Thai pepper flakes. 1000% better.
Awesome food!
There are other options for SE asian cuisine in the area.
We went in around 2:30 and bummed when we found out we missed the buffet, but after reading the reviews, we thought we would give it a go anyway. If the buffet was good ,how bad could the food be? We were the only couple there. After getting our waters and menu, the waiter didn't come back for about 20 mins. After actually ordering food, it all came put one after the other, sowly but surely. Unfortunately, it was subpar, to say the least. We ordered Fresh Spring Rolls, Basil Chicken, laab, Fried Rice, and Pad Thai.
The chicken and shrimp fresh spring rolls looked like it was wrapped by a 5 year old. There was 1 shrimp in each roll cut in half. The noodles were chopped up; pair that with the ground chicken and shredded lettuce, making it a nightmare to take a bite. Everything was everywhere. There is no flavor in the roll itself. Sweet sauce that came with it was some kind of watered-down sugar. 0/5
The basil chicken was not a basil stir fry, more like a pepper chicken. It had a total of 6 basil leaves mixed in with an overabundance of red and green bell peppers and mushrooms. Chicken was barely present as well. Basil isn't a garnish in a basil stir fry. It's the star of the dish. What little basil and chicken that was there was great tasting. 2/5
The fried rice was fried rice. It's hard to get that wrong. 4/5
The pad thai noodles were chopped up with a giant puddle of soup at the bottom of the plate. Felt like we were eating a tamarind flavor pho after a while. 2/5
The worst offender of our lunch was the Laab. It was sliced beef that was cooked and thrown in a bowl with grounded rice powder and green onions mixed in on a bed of lettuce. No other seasonings were used. No salt. No fish sauce. Nothing. 0/5
Wouldn't recommend it, and I don't know if the recently highly praised lunch buffet would be anything different. The place was great. People were nice when we were tended to but the food should be just as good and unfortunately it completely missed the mark. 2/5
Excellent food. Value for money. Great server. Very fast food delivery
First time and last time of this restaurant. My worst experience ever since I came to the US. I have been placed order for 30 minutes. No one came to check on us and tell us what is going on back in the kitchen. They just left us out sitting and waiting for the foods.
Place looks like it needs to be steam cleaned. Wait to be helped is above average time. Wait for food is double elsewhere and food sub-par.
Hasn’t failed me yet. GF options abound. Delicious.
I picked up takeout tonight for Dine Out for Life, and it was easy and delicious while supporting a fantastic cause!
I'm a baby when it comes to spice so I got a level one spice on #61b Thai Noodle with Lemongrass and shrimp and it was the perfect amount of spice, any more and I would have steam coming out my ears. I picked up spring rolls and other dishes to share but only got to try mine! It all looked fantastic!
Very friendly with good food
Well, they've definitely gotten worse since the pandemic started. 🤮 yuck!
There are so many subpar substitutions with their traditional and advertised ingredients!
Their Thai Beef jerky used to be amazing. Now it's gotta be Bottom Round, despite being advertised as beef tenderloin. It's no longer tender and succulent.
Their Pad Thai no longer contains fish sauce, or it's minimum because the flavor is severely lacking lately.
Pad Thai no longer comes with a lime wedge like it used to. Now it's lemon... not the same.....
Their massaman beef curry contains like 4 full sized potatoes diced up and two chunks of beef totaling the size of half a potato, so it's like 1/8th beef and 7/8th potatoes. Also, no longer tender beef, and their was maybe 3 peanuts total.
The spring rolls were great as always. Whoever makes those deserve a raise.
Desserts were pretty good. They definitely don't put any effort into presenting desserts anymore. Just scoop a blob of sticky rice and chuck a few mangos into the containers to go...
Anyways yah, the Minneapolis location is the original and this one feels like the franchised location under different ownership, same menu but made/interpreted by a chef with no experience in Asian cuisine
Don't get me wrong, they do a fine job on a good amount of the menu, but a majority of the staples they mess up big time. They can't make their sweet and sour soup (Tom Yum) right to save a life.
So disappointing. Every time. I live a few blocks away and have ordered here several times. I always forget that it’s not that good and end up disappointed lol please don’t waste your $ here
Ordered the paradise chicken wings and pad see ew at a spice level 3 which is generally a nice spice at most place. While the wings were decent and something we had never had before, the See Ew was completely dry bland flavorless nothing. Just egg noodles, chicken and broccoli. No flavor, no spice, no nothing. It was so bland that it wasn’t even worth eating more than a few bites. This was the first time trying Sawatdee as our normal place was closed today and I have to say I was more than underwhelmed and will not be going back. I’m hoping it was an off night and this isn’t their normal effort. I’ve eaten at a handful of Thai places in Saint Paul and this was by far the worst.
Update 3/20/23
I decided to give them anoter try, and i am so mad at myself for doing so. Once again the food quality was so poor. The fried chicken was soggy. The mango sticky rice dessert had no coconut cream and the rice was dry and old. The mango tasted off as well. Clearly even after all of the reviews and promises to improve they have not.
---
owner/manager keeps replying "sorry" to poor reviews, but clearly doesn't actually care or try to fix quality issues. go elsewhere.
---
This is usually my favorite restaurant. However the food quality has totally tanked. All of the noodle dishes are overly dry and lacking flavor. Sometimes the noodles are way overcooked. I keep trying again with the hope that things will improve, but my past 3ish orders have been disappointing and not worth the price.
Don’t get the pad see ew. It was flavorless and dry. The curries were good.
Delicious Thai food in the heart of downtown St. Paul! The edamame was fresh and the gluten free selection is huge. My mom and I really enjoyed our meals. I opted for the Pad See Yew this time and went with a Level 1 for spice. It was scrumptious, and the portion was so generous my takeout box was overflowing. Will definitely dine in again next time I’m in St Paul!
Not impressed with their food. Spring rolls were gigantic iceberg lettuce stuffed silliness. It was 90% iceberg, 10% real contents, and way too big to comfortably eat. Cheap👎🏼
Was my first time trying this food so not sure if I got a bogus chef that night or if this is the norm here.
In my entree, the vegetables were not properly cooked, very raw especially the broccoli. And again broccoli pieces were too big to eat plus very hard to bite through. Some flavoring was good but the spices were unevenly distributed so the heat was not mixed in well.
The whole experience felt cheap and slapped together with very little care.
Second time I've been there on my business trips. Food is excellent! My boss took me there the first trip to St Paul. So had to go back again. Will be taking my wife there when we move closer
The food is delicious, and gluten free items are clearly marked on the menu. The kids menu is really great.
**** updated, with original below the new.
Quality has gone way down, constant false advertising of products, especially the spring rolls which would be grossly overpriced even if they did contain all the ingredients that are advertised (no chicken, no pork, sometimes No shrimp, aka no protein).
Summer Pad Thai was literally submerged in oil when it was brought out last time. I had to fish for the noodles, there was so much sauce/oil. Will not be back as I have given them 3 chances in 2022 and every time the experience was bad.
I love that they offer a "Summer Pad Thai" which is one made with less oil. Also their spring rolls are always one of the best around due to their size and makeup. They do serve a peanut oil instead of the peanut butter sauce though.
Live music on weekends and happy hour round out the perks of coming here, plus it's never crazy busy so there is always fast service.
This place is like no other. The food is really good.
Low-quality service, low-quality staff, very average quality food. This used to be a great spot but now has just become a chain restaurant with chain restaurant quality food. Over priced, small portions, low quality. There are plenty of more authentic options in town, I suggest trying one of those.
10/10 recommended. The soup and shrimp is amazing!
Gross and expensive. Once upon a time this place had good food.
Wow, had uber deliver.. no broth in Panang Curry, fatty pork. Contacted uber, no help... restaurant also offered no help, solutions .
My boyfriend and me stopped in for a quick lunch a few weeks go. While the food was ok, the restaurant did not seem clean. The floor was so sticky from front to back, that my sandal was pulled off my foot twice.
Within 20 minutes of leaving, I was doubled over in pain. I had food poisoning within 20-30 minutes of finishing our meal. My BF also ended up getting sick as well.
When I called the restaurant a few hours later to let them know what happened, the server knew exactly what we ordered before I even said what we had. He said sorry that happened and that was that.
I’ve been to the MPLS Sawadee a few years back and it was a very different experience. However, I won’t be going back to any of them again
If you live in Saint Paul, you probably already know Sawatdee. Some of the best Thai I've ever had, great curry, some of my favorite pad Thai, and a dozen great appetizers. Go in person for a solid drink selection too. Service is always great, and I've yet to find something on the menu I haven't liked. The jalapeno wontons I definitely recommend.
Fantastic food. We went for the lunch buffet and it was amazing. They only do buffet wed-fri but it was delicious. Limited options but packed full of stunning flavors. There was only one waiter and the service was really lacking since she was working the indoor and outdoor. I would definitely order take out but probably not eat in store.
delicious food that's always been accurate and ready for pick-up. long live cream cheese wontons!
Fantastic food and best staff in the world, thank you
Best rice I've ever had!! Great food, Awesome waiter. 5+ stars
Been there twice, adequate service, good food, reasonable
The Thai margarita was terrific, and we really enjoyed the fresh spring rolls, green curry, a shrimp dish and mango. The vegetables and tofu are cut larger than a comfortable bite, but the taste is great
Do not eat at their food truck!!
Their food truck at Market fest served some of the worst food I've had in years. What was depicted was a barbecue marinated pork skewer with sticky rice on the side. What we received was something like a pork chop with no marinade or sauce, and the sticky rice was dry, and the entire entree was flavorless. I did a double take when they handed it to me, if it weren't so crowded I think I would have spoken up and questioned it. Huge rip off and disappointment.
I admit I’ve only tried a few things on the menu, but it’s because the pad Thai is so good I have a hard time choosing something else! The fresh spring rolls are also incredibly good. This is one of my go-to spots for local takeout - Great value because of generous portions.
Grossly disappointed. Nothing like I remember from ten years ago. Typically, one might expect to get fresh spring rolls at a Thai place; nope, out of rice paper... wash your hands before meal? nope no usable restrooms. With over ten empty, unbussed, tables, and only two actual tables be sat at, we were asked if we had a reservation, and scauffed at for answering no. There were only two of us.
final score= knowledgeable staff-1; appetizing appearance-5;
taste of food-6;
polite and fun-0
(these scores are out of 10)
1st time trying this place and last time, i order the laab esan and man it was so bland barely any taste to it.
This place has been around a long time for a reason! I love the pad Thai and Curries. Yum.
I got the beef pad see ew, broccoli fried rice, and cream cheese wontons. The wonton to cream cheese ratio wasn’t great, and it was over fried so the wonton was really chewy.
The fried rice is okay but I’m gonna have to add soy sauce since it doesn’t have a ton of flavor.
The pad see ew was most disappointing tho :( many pieces of beef are really tough, and the sauce is like, watery? Bad reviews are hard but I spent like 50 bucks (including driver tip) and I’m disappointed.
Edit: the noodles are better as leftovers ✌️
They were short staffed and still pulled off a great lunch. Silver thread noodle salad is always delightful! A little on the sweet side for dressing, but fresh spring rolls, and satay was yummy. Always worth the wait no matter what. Its a taste of home!
I just ordered Uber eats with them and had level 3 spicy chicken pho for $10 I received such a small portion barely any chicken the pho broth is very salty not spicy at all it was so salty I couldn’t even eat it I threw it out I’m quite disappointed a review a read said their pho was delicious didn’t expect it to be so salty with no broth flavor that’s how salty it was :( & for $10 I could’ve went to Maplewood mall and got an actual large pho w the correct flavors
I didn't realize that the lunch buffet is the thing to do. Fortunately I was able to order off the menu, but there wasn't a lot of table service because of the buffet. Reservations are recommended for a table.
Silver noodle salad... chicken soup (kinda like pho)
egg rolls ....and the sherong ball things lol 😆 thank me later...
So good. Best thai restaurant I've been to for variety of menu options. They had a couple apps and dishes I havent seen often, if ever. Did not indulge in any adult beverages, but we were offered tasters of some of their specialty beers and they were fantastic. Not my style, but very unique, which I appreciate.
Used to be the grand old dame of Thai food in the twin cities but sadly isn’t what it once was.
We had a party of 8 for a birthday party and they stuck us in the back room by the walk-in cooler. They didn’t even bother to put away the mop bucket so it just sat feet from our table through the whole meal.
The room was SO hot and stuffy it was truly uncomfortable and the blaring music from the kitchen was almost unbearable …Metallica, AC/DC and the like and it made normal conversation almost impossible. The “fancy” Thai drinks came in a 8 oz glasses which felt like a real rip off for $8.00.The food was decent but again, not at all what it once was.
Not a single dirty plate or glass was cleared from our table the entire meal and was all still on the table when we left-yuck.
Too many other great choices for Thai food to return.
This was the worst food experience I’ve had in a while. The vegetarian spring rolls were stuffed with flavorless iceberg lettuce, noodle mush, and about 2 tiny shreds of carrot. Extremely disappointing. Try putting fresh cucumber and carrot and herbs and make it worth the purchase.
The staff was very nice but the food was really bad and so overpriced for what was received.
food was good, but a little bland. nice sized portion.
Sawatdee is a must-go in St Paul for any Thai food fan. We’ve been going there for years, and it’s delicious every time! Their Pad Thai is fantastic every time - but it’s very spicy. The soups are great, especially the rice noodle soup. I asked for extra bean sprouts and they absolutely delivered. The crispy spring rolls are so delicious we got a second order! Juan is an awesome server! Gotta go here.
If you've never had Thai food before, this js a great place to start!
We have eaten at this establishment a number of times over the last ten plus years. We love the food and the wait staff.
An addendum; It's been a couple of years due to Covid and we still love this location for the food, staff and atmosphere.
This was my first experience eating Thai food and I truly enjoyed it. My entree was flavorful and it wasn't too spicy. I love how they allow you to determine how spicy your dish will be on a scale of 1-5.
Amazing Thai food and atmosphere.
They have THE BEST satay, egg rolls, wontons, basically anything off their appetizer menu has been the best of the best I’ve gotten around the country. Their handmade sauce making is out of this world. I will order their apps but order entrées somewhere else. I have never liked a single one of their entrees I’ve tried. Which includes their curries and Thai noodle dishes.
Excellent Panang curry, fresh, hot and quickly served.
Amazing service and delicious food.
Amazing authentic Thai food I thought only my cousins from Bangkok could make. Very generous proportions, you need to be a true glutton to eat a whole meal with a spring roll side.
Outstanding job Everytime!! Love there Fried Rice!!!
Service was great. 5 on service. Food...pho noodle is not on key point. You want pho, go to viet restaurant. My seafood pho was 19..which is overpriced and don't have all ingredients. Papaya salad was bland..Spring roll was OK. Need to make the wrap tighter, need to use Romain letteuce and shredded carrot instead of using a bag of garden salad for the vegie, which cause the wrap to fall aprt easily. Stuff chicken wing was awesome. Fries noodle meatball was OK even though I almost choke on the fried noodle. Cream cheese wonton was awesome. Plenty of filling. Pad Thai and pad see ew was great but needs better coating . So much sauce was on the bottom plate that could of coat the noodle better. Service 5 food quality 3.
I was having a Pad Thai craving on a Sunday afternoon and my top 3 places to order were all closed. So I decided to give Sawatdee a try. I’d only been there 1 time years ago and wasn’t impressed, but I figured a second try on something as basic as Pad Thai and egg roll was worth my $27. I was wrong. It was basically ketchup noodles. At least I’m assuming they put ketchup in it because I can’t figure out what else they could have done to those poor noodles. Definitely the worst I’ve ever eaten. For the egg rolls, you get 2 and they are your basic egg roll. I won’t try a third time.
Not as good it use to be 5 years ago. Great staff though.
Ample portions, red curry was well spiced. Reminded me of some of my favorite Thai cuisine on the west coast.
Great food. Missed it.
Rama thai delight is the best! Epically with chopped spinach.
So so good, and very fast take out!
A wonderful lunch on a winter afternoon. My wife ordered the Holy Basil stir fry and I had the Ginger stir fry with tofu. The server graciously offered us the option of the vegetarian black sesame sauce (rather than the standard one step sauce) - absolutely delicious. Lovely vegetables and spices. Nice setting. Service excellent. Prices reasonable. Will return again soon.
Great food. Take out order was great and plentiful. Indoor dining requires reservations and masks.
I usually like this place, but last time I went my food was horrible.
The food was delicious, and our server Jose was fantastic!
Tried for the first time today. The panang curry and pad see yew noodles were both soooo bland.
