Traditional Thai cuisine, plus beer & wine, offered in a warm, relaxed environment with bar seating.
Chiang Mai is a joint I honestly didn’t even know existed. I’m not a big fan of Thai food in general but recently, we made a visit here since the reviews looked good.
Came at around 5:30 PM on a Saturday and they weren’t busy and had plenty of tables. We sat outside and our waiter was super friendly and attentive to our table. We started with the calamari and dumplings as an appetizer. The calamari was decent, the dumplings were pretty good.
I settled for the Crab Fried Rice as my entree. I was overall super impressed! The portions are huge too and I couldn’t even finish it. The crab was fresh and the rice was great too.
Overall, if you’re in Broad Ripple looking for a great Thai restaurant, this is the place!
food so good it shut up the yappers— my friend and i can’t stop dreaming about the curry we ate last night. we got the mango curry and duck curry, plus fried tofu appetizer. it was all so so good. the curry was hot, creamy, and flavorful. a lot of other thai restaurants don’t serve mango curry, so i love that this is on the menu. the fried tofu was crispy and a good appetizer. the service was solid and friendly, and the atmosphere was dim and low-key, good for a date night or chill dinner.
Best Thai food I've had since moving to Indy 17 years ago. Shockingly not busy on a great weather Saturday just before spring. A little off the main roads which is the only reason I can imagine why. Parking available right out front, and absolutely terrific food. One of the best Thai iced teas I've had anywhere, and fast, attentive service. Hope to be back soon.
Don't order the Thai noodle soup, as it was pretty much disgusting and the beef in it was dry and hard. Flavor of the soup was simply off-putting. I ordered spice level 3 of 6, and it tasted more like spice level -1. Worst Thai noodle soup experience ever. Giving 3 stars because the waitress was great and tried to correct the soup situation. Additionally, all non soup dishes were pretty good. Not sure I would ever go back based on how horrible the soup was, as that is my favorite thing to order at Thai restaurants. If soup is not your thing, you should enjoy got experience here.
Initially, I enjoyed the pictured basil fried rice on a chill and gloomy Saturday after an impromptu trek for a new and intriguing cologne.
The atmosphere was so: quaint, inviting, yet soothing and undemanded. I exiled my self-indulgence for a moment to invite wife out to partake in a Sunday evening soiree of authentically spiced Thai cuisine at my new found secret.
...she too concluded, "this is some of the best in the city!"
Overall experience was poor. The seafood and noodles consisted of watery, bland broth with cayenne pepper, some bok choy and a few pieces of tough, overcooked seafood. The duck and noodles had the same tasteless broth but with mediocre sliced duck. The server was friendly but didn't check on us. The decor is unattractive. There are better Thai restaurants in the area. Will not be back.

Best Pad Thai in the Broadripple area
Food and prices were really good. Has wine list. Not busy on Sundays.
Sadly, our food items were greatly disappointing, especially the Salad Rolls, which were a tasteless blend of only lettuce and carrot peelings. The tempura veggies were soggy. The Drunken Noodles were dry. My Garlic Lovers entree was tasty, but the beef was chewy and the sauce was thin. Overall, we've found that this restaurant is very inconsistent. Thai food lovers should expect more - and look elsewhere.
Real friendly nice people and they excel at trying to make sure you're happy with everything you order
We take trips to Indy several times a year and each time we make it a point to stop at Chiang Mai, their food is *excellent* and fairly priced. If you love Thai food, be sure to stop here.
Love the food, but arbitrary hours and willing to let people dine in makes it a frustrating and often disappointing destination for evening hours
Good food!! Friendly waiter.

can’t even properly update their delivery services. don’t bother ordering from here late because you won’t get your order, even when they confirm it. massive waste of time.

Great Thai food - love the Tom Kha soup, pad thai and the curries!
Dog friendly on the porch.
Johnny is the best!!
The curry dishes and spring rolls are fantastic. It’s a new staple for us and affordable. Highly recommend!
One of the better Thai places in the Indy area!
My sister has this restaurant on speed dial for takeout, she loves it so much! Amazing food and a very comfortable atmosphere. I can't recommend it enough. ☺️
Great food, slow service despite little or no crowd on a Friday night
Regular workday dinner with a slow lots of open table took 2 hours, very slow serving, no much more service. Food is okay favor-wise. Restaurant added 20% gratuity added to post tax amount for party of 4. I wrote it off but still got changed full. Opening a dispute with my bank.
Placed a door dash order - order confirmed - payment processed - store cancelled order - store will not answer the phone even though they are not closed - awful service!
Got carryout pad thai and thai dumplings and they were AMAZING. Very impressed.

Basil duck was fantastic! Service was excellent!
Food is absolutely fine. But they need to tighten this place up if they want to be a sit down restaurant. Bazbeaux next door takes itself seriously as a sit down restaurant. This place don't.
This restaurant is a cheater ! They charge my card more than the tip I gave...I just notice it today! I boycott this restaurant ! i hate dishonest people !
I just called them few minutes ago.., to file a complaint.., the one who answered me tried to lie that he cant find the ticket and he has lot of customers... and he even told me that it's only a matter of $2-$4 extra being charged...and hang up the phone !!! quite RUDE ! WTH! THAT'S IS NOT THE POINT !, THE FACT IS THAT YOU ARE DISHONEST !
How come they can't find the ticket, gave them the table #, the time, the orders, and in fact they only have 3 customers at that time.., It's easy to look for it in the system. LIAR LIAR !!!
I have the receipt as a proof ! Expect a visit from authorities my friend !
This place really just does not miss, regardless of what you get it’s just going to phenomenal.
Food was fine. They seemed to be understaffed, server kept disappearing into the kitchen
You will wait 5 hours to get your food
No pictures of the Thai king so the atmosphere was off. We need more Buddha in there too, for the atmosphere. Pad Thai was actually good. Spicy level 4 is not that spicy. Level 5 out of 6 seems like it would have just the right amount of kick. I'll try it next time. Boba tea was good. The water did not taste like tap so that's a plus. Chicken Satay was pretty good. Dumplings were also very nice. It's hard to find good Pad Thai around here. This is good Pad Thai. Regret not tipping more. Parking is not great anywhere in broad ripple so good luck.
I only spotted in four takeout pho, but I was very impressed with everything. I'll gladly go back again.
Best Pad Thai in Indy. We love getting takeout from here!
Very tasty.
I online ordered, selected the first available pick up time (8:50pm). Got there at 8:45, waited until 8:52 for anyone to come out front. Took food straight home (two blocks away). Food was cold.
At minimum, online ordering system is dysfunctional. I didn't even use a delivery service, I did everything myself as quickly as possible and as soon as I was allowed.
The food is okay, really standard Thai food. Noodles were sort of bland. The sweet sticky rice with custard was a really weird texture, not very enjoyable. There are better Thai places in Indy for sure.
Loved the crab rangoon, dumplings and drunken noodles. Servers are the sweetest and love the cozy atmosphere. Can't wait to sit on the patio
Would definitely go again!
I eat here often and tonight I was very disappointed. The people I was with wanted an appetizer, but silly me 7 crab Rangoon’s. First of all you need to confirm and repeat back the order. Then we realized 7 entire orders of them came out. After the mistake we made you could have at least have sympathy and understanding, but the staff is very rude and there are flies everywhere.
Enjoyed the curry
Good food and good service
Food was great. Portions were more than adequate. Prices were reasonable. Definitely going back due to the HUGE menu selection. Had a hard time choosing, because everything looked delicious!
Favorite for Thai in this area. It's never crowded, but they seem to do a lot of take out. Quick service and food tastes good. Atmosphere is nice as well.
my favourite Thai place
I don’t expect much from Asian restaurants while living in Indiana, but this place is pretty good and authentic tasting. I ordered the duck noodle soup and mango sticky rice. I’m surprised there’s duck on the menu. That’s rare. The portion sizes are average. Mango sticky rice was good too. I liked the rice to mango ratio — pretty much a 1:1. Other places I’ve been to have too much rice to mango.
Food was excellent! Service was very slow, even when the restaurant was pretty empty. Might do takeout instead next time.
Yum was delicious and refreshing, didn't realize it would be chilled, but definitely worth it! Hawaiian fried rice was also delicious! Good portion sizes
Half hour to get a drink they really don't care about the food, service, or atmosphere lol
We shoulda known by looking at that fish tank filled with green slime oof
Food is good. Service can sometimes be a little slow.
SOOOOOO GOOD!! Best Pad Se Ewe in town. Will definitely come back!
Pad Thai and Basil Fried rice are not to be misssed
The garlic chicken was fantastic
Legit Thai place! My husband got his dish “hot” and it was actually spicy. Plenty of options for a kids meal and they have fish tanks for them to gaze at as well. Will definitely be back.
Best pad Thai and khao Soi! We get carryout from here all the time and it’s always so good.
Comida muy rica
The chef made me a special version of the #33, where it had less sauce and a dash more seasoning. Sort of resembles a Thai Basil Minced Chicken (or pork) if you've ever had that. Anyways, I did HOT spice level and it was perfect for me; I do like spicy though. Anyways, it was delicious! Give it a try!
This is seriously one of my favorite restaurants in Indy.
This is my favorite Thai restaurant in Indiana. However the last time I went it was not as delicious as I remembered and the portion size was greatly reduced.
I stopped in here while walking through Broadripple (I hope im spelling it right) for the first time. I was craving something light but satisfying and I found it, it was wonderful. I had the Crab Rangoon, Spring Rolls and a bowl of soup "thia hot" it was delicious. There weren't a lot of people there when I arrived like a lot of other roadside restaurants but it picked up while I was there. The service was great kind friendly informative and very accommodating (I drink a lot of water) she brought me two pichers of water. The food was fresh flavorful and enjoyable and it really was on point with the heat which I love. The only problem was when I went to pay I noticed that either the crab Rangoon or the sping rolls were a dollar more than on the menu and the soup was three dollars more, I mentioned it to the server and her response was we changed priced and didn't change menu without sounding rude and at the risk of being a cheapskate I simple said I would like it discounted the 4 dollars. I understand that it wasn't her fault but that of the management or owners that the wanted to save the cost of printing new menus but to expect to receive more profit with out incurring more cost isn't how you do it hoping your customers don't catch it. So someone from the back came out and he clearly didn't understand the discrepancy do after several times of showing him (ESL) makes it difficult to communicate they charged me the full amount and gave me back $4. I noticed that he immediately called someone and it appeared (again because of language barriers) that he was chewing someone out for the oversight. But other than that it was a wonderful lunch.
ZERO vegetarian or vegan entrees. We were told that all entrees, even veggie dishes, were made with oysters/fish sauce. The coconut soup and golden tofu appetizers were good though!
My favorite Thai restaurant in town so far.
They've got a good menu. Amazing flavor. We've tried most of the apps, desserts. Our favorite dishes are the Massaman Curry & Mango Curry.
Thai noodle soup was worst I've ever tasted and I'm very easy to please and have never met a Thai noodle soup I found inedible, until now. Chicken tasted rancid and the broth mimicked that really bad flavor. Waitress was kind And apologetic but soup was not so good. Won't be back unfortunately.
Ordered for grilled salmon and got the deep fried salmon. Spoke to the chef for the clarification and he said that it’s grilled. Shocked to see 4 stars and above.
I love this place for Thai food. Right on the river in the bustling part of broad ripple. I got the spicy Pad Thai with tofu. It was amazing! Sometimes the spice levels can be hard to gauge but this came out as spicy as I was hoping it would be.
The servers are extremely friendly and helpful. Was there on a weeknight and the crowds were cleared out by 8/9pm.
Excellent food, kind staff. Definitely a great spot to hit up for Thai in Indy.
We normally come here once a week, but last night we picked up our order and the pad thai had been put into the styrofoam containers when it was too hot, so it melted the containers, and the food tasted like styrofoam.
Edit: I forgot to add that I picked up my order at 10p.m. I called the next morning when they opened to tell them about it, and they accused me of lying, and were very rude to me. The way they treated me on the phone when I was being nice is why I will never tell people to go here.
Ate here with my wife and parents for the first time ever today to celebrate my birthday weekend. Food was top notch, good portions, very friendly staff and the outdoor eating patio with all the greenery is perfectly pleasant.
Shout out to "Thang" and the rest of the staff for surprising me with the complimentary birthday treat! You guys are awesome!! 🥳
Will definitely come back and highly recommend 👌🏻
I've ordered the Hawaii fried rice multiple times, I usually enjoy it. However today I take three bites and my mouth is on fire! It's NOT supposed to be spicy and I don't enjoy spicy food.
Holy moly… this place oh my god. If you want some authentic and incredibly delicious Thai food, do yourself a favor and eat here. The atmosphere is great, Johnny/Johnnie who served us is extremely friendly and funny! He was working alone the day we came and he was able to get us our food and drinks in great time, when we were done with our soup/salads he took those away and immediately replaced them with our entrees (I got the duck noodle soup, the duck was delicious and tender ugh so good, my partner got the thom yum soup with tofu he couldn’t stop until it was all gone!) and did the same when he brought our dessert, which was the fried banana with mango ice cream! My stomach is happy as well as my tastebuds. The check didn’t hurt the wallet either! 10/10 highly recommend.
First time trying this family Thai restaurant as we hunt for a new Thai place in our new neighborhood. I'm an avid Thai fan so we eat Thai food pretty often.
When I lived in Chicago I worked at a very nice Thai restaurant downtown so it quickly rose to the top of my food list of favorites. Having shared that I have to say Chiang Mai was good, but nothing to write home about. The woman who took my order was very pleasant, but I think there was a little loss in translation when she took my order. Nothing too serious, but extra charges can add up quickly if you're not paying attention. Our food was super hot and it did taste good, but again nothing to write home about. The thing that actually was annoying is they use plastic to store curries in for transportation. When you bring food to a rapid boil, it should not then go directly into plastic containers. That just releases microscopic plastic particles into the food and then we consume it. There are paper based to-go containers and these are the ones that should be used. Plastics do nothing but pollute our bodies and the planet. I don't know about you, but I'm good on all of that.
To be fair, I went basic with ordering three different curries to try with the fam, no appetizers nor drinks. The kids enjoyed the food as I had ordered their Massaman Curry a level one spice. I ordered my Red Curry at level two spice and didn't find it overly spicy at all. Daddy ordered his Duck Curry at a one spice level and enjoyed it. Over all not bad, but nothing stood out as memorable. I'd like to try them out again with appetizers, a couple of stir fries, and Thai iced teas to be able to give a more thorough review.
***Didn't take pictures because I just couldn't with the hot plastic containers. :*(
*** Forgot to mention the prices listed on their website are not at all accurate. Paid over $40 for 3 curries. That's insane.
Girlfriend ordered my Pad Thai and Tom Yum Soup to help make me feel better. The food made me sicker. I literally threw the food in the garbage. Where in the world does Pad Thai have broccoli, carrots, and corn? No cilantro, no flavor, no love, awful.
People in Indy like this kind of “Thai?” Unbelievable. I tried calling the restaurant - no answer. Called the next day - no answer. Called the following day - no answer. Trash, trash, trash. Next!
Fresh tasting, well spiced and good ingredients.
I love this place but PLEASE stop playing pop country music. It makes zero sense for a Thai restaurant.
Absolutely love this gem. Found it by going to lunch with some coworkers and now like it visit here regularly for a quick lunch. They have an amazing lunch special that fills you up. It includes entree, soup, and salad! I get the fried basil rice which is absolutely delicious. Spicy food lover's will be in for a treat
Very rude ,I wasn't busy at all I sat for about 20 mins without getting assisted and seems like this every time I go in not sure if it's me or because I'm black at this point
Number #1 Thai food in the city if you ask me!
We normally order takeout but decided to stop in today. The Thai dumplings are a bit different than I remember but still delicious. As always, the tofu pad Thai is delicious and we were adventurous and ordered orange chicken as well which was also very good. However, i think I will stay with takeout since I swear you get more pad Thai that way. Overall, still a delicious place!
Great food. Lots of vegetables. Good price for the large portion sizes. We always have leftovers.
Our shrimp tempura came out very under cooked, the batter was still wet. We also found a small piece of plastic in our soup. Service was good, staff was apologetic too. The seats and restaurant are run down and need attention.
Excellent menu with more Thai combinations than I’m used to. Great starters. Good beer and wine selection and good sake. Food was prepared very well and staff was very friendly and attentive.
My nephew's fav spot so we always go when I'm in Indianapolis. Yummy food!
Great food
Chang Mai Thai Noodles.
Chang Mai Thai Noodle Shop's menu features traditional, authentic Thai cuisine and patio dining. In addition to their wide array of noodle soups and appetizers, they serve a variety of entrées and vegetarian selections. You can also sip on a cold beer or your favorite wine while enjoying Chang Mai's relaxed atmosphere. They invite you to drop in for lunch or dinner seven days a week.
Food may be Chang Mai's focus, but it's not the only thing they offer. Enjoy a cold one in their stylish and comfortable bar, elegantly appointed with two large-screen TV's and a variety of contemporary furnishings. If you're looking for something stronger than Chang Mai's famously spicy offerings, try a crisp glass of white wine or a frothy pint of beer.

Delicious food
Fresh ingredients, great service. Loved this place.
SO good. Clean, not a long wait and fresh!

Wait for soooooooo long, but delicious
Deliciousness
This place could not be any slower and have a less attentive staff
Spicy and delicious! Lunch date was very adorable and reasonably prompt service given only one server and multiple tables. Chiang Mai is my go to Thai food spot over others in the area. They do offer a few parking spaces and outdoor seating.
I always have a great experience here! The staff are really nice and the food is good.
Green curry and orange chicken were so sweet it didn't resemble Thai food at all. All you could taste was sweetness (sweet condensed coconut milk perhaps). Spoke to employee on the phone and he said "It shouldn't taste that sweet" and said he was sorry. Then silence. We would never go here again.
Took an hour to get our food, but the delivery drivers had no wait. Food is good but service and waiting doesn't offset the quality of food.
Hidden gem. Wife and I love sitting outside with all the surrounding plants
Very good appetizers and lunch specials.
Excellent service!
I order the green curry veggie with shrimp (5 level of spiciness) glass of white wine. The portion of food was more than I could handle. We had a party of 5. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The service was slow but well worth the wait. The restaurant was clean, the sitting was space out nice and safe. Overall the atmosphere was comfortable & cozy . I would eat here again. I give the experience an 9 1/2.maybe put some bread or soup while waiting for the food to arrive.😊
Love this place! Great food, great service. Love the outdoor patio space.
Great ambiance!!
Good food and service but not my favorite as far as price and portion size.
Sunday evening we met a friend there for dinner at 8:00. They took our drink order and when they brought the drinks out, they said they were out of the beer my friend ordered. He asked to see the drink menu again, but it was never brought. I eventually took control and went in (we were sitting outside) and got an IPA oredred for him. There seemed to be a language barrier, and the staff spent a lot of time on their phones. They eventually took our food order, and the food came out at about 9:15. I ordered hot and my firend ordered medium, but I got mild and she got hot instead. I orederd hot oil and mentioned our spice levels got mixed up, and they didn't care. The food was good, and I would love to eat there more if they actually cared about the service, thus the 2 stars. We left 2 hours after arriving. Luckily we were visiting to pass the time.
I had a crave for orange chicken and wanted to give this place a try. I ordered online and my food was ready in less than 15 mins! Everything tasted great - very fresh and flavorful. Also, the portion size was huge. Add easy parking, moderate prices, and friendly staff and you get a decent go-to lunch/dinner place. Would recommend :)
Food is great and you get a lot for the price.
Ordered my meal 30 min early, was confirmed. I arrived and not only was my meal never started, but the host walked away from me and gave me no indication that my food wasn’t started. He began playing with his phone before I had to ask specifically whether or not my order was started. Complete waste of time and gas, and the staff is rude.
Loved the food. They will customize the spice level to your level of daring from 1 to 6. 1 has no heat. Portions were generous for the price. Fresh ingredients were plentiful.
They serve beer and wine. Also have bubble tea, Thai tea and fruit smoothies.
The pin in Google Maps takes you to the back parking lot that does not have an entrance to the restaurant. I asked Google to move the pin. The red pin in my pic is the better place for it. The road is one way from west to east.
Basal fried rice with delicious
It was the MULTIPLE ANTS 🐜 for me. No, that isn't some fun cocktail.... Sadly we actually had three ants appear in our food within 10 min of getting our meals. Apart from the critters the food was flavorless and less than mediocre. Service was poor and when we brought the ants to the servers attention we overheard the kitchen say “but did they eat the food” COME ON. No we did not eat any food after we found three ants. It was disappointing there was no attempt to make our experience better. We asked for the check and left pull plates on the table.
The cuisine is spot on . Reminds me of my travels through Thailand.
This place was really nice. The atmosphere, the food and the drinks were all good. Did not want long for service which was really nice.
making this review because i am day dreaming about eating their mango curry.
Lovely Tom Kha! If you ask for medium spicy, be aware that it's not spicy at all. Wish I'd asked for "hot".
I order the drunken noodles, it was average. I also ordered the Red Curry, and it is 🔥. I would recommend.
Awesome Staff
Just got home from Chaing Mai and wow did they give bad service today. When I arrived the guy behind the counter asked me to hold on for a minute. No worries, but he then proceeded to play a game on three phones at once for the next 2 minutes straight while I stood there waiting for him to cash out my pickup order. Wow. Then when I got home ready to enjoy my Tom yum noodle soup. There were no noodles. Insult to injury. 2 stars only bc it's been better in the past.
The food is incredible but the service was a little off. Really nice staff but kind of inattentive.
Good food and prices. Only reason I didn't give 5-stars is because the kitchen was a bit slow getting our order ready (note this is/was during COVID-19 so they were probably swamped with call in orders). I will definitely go back!
I went back and kitchen was much faster and the food was great. Updated my rating to 5-stars
A few patrons are enjoying thier day out.
Awesome people, Even better FOOD!!!!!!
Great takeout. We highly recommend the drunken noodles and the tasty eggplant.
The food is amazing and the staff are very friendly
Great place, great food, kind staff!
This is my very first time writing a review on a business.
I called this restaurant and was not convinced enough to believe that this is just one time mistake. For other people, I decided to write a review.
I ordered online Pad Thai, Green Curry, and Chiang Mai Chicken.
(1) While having Chiang Mai Chicken, I found a very strange thing in the food. The best thing I should think for my sanity is the tail of a shrimp. However, it can be worse than that. I attached the photo of it.
I sent the photo to the restaurant by a text and asked what it is. No answer. So I called them again and asked what it is: the tail of a shrimp.
I have been feeling nausea and I hope it will go away soon.
(2) The menu description of Chiang Mai Chicken says "Deep fried battered chicken breast topped with sweet & sour sauce and bedded with mixed veggies." The only veggie was broccoli.
(3) Even before finding this weird thing, I was very disappointed by the foods. The Pad Thai was very dry which seems to be heated many times. The curry was very salty and so I had to boil it with more water. The steamed rice was extremely uncooked.
(3) Just for your information: when you order online, the prices are higher (This is not indicated on the site.)
(4) When I texted the photo to the restaurant, they asked me if I want a refund. When I asked them on the phone how they will proceed for the refund they said I should call the boss. Oh my...should I explain all of these again to ask for a refund while feeling nausea?
So the restaurant we initially decided to go to was closed. We were walking back to our car and saw this place near where we had already paid for a parking meter. We walked in and decided to give it a try. Excellent decision! The food was really amazing. Like really really good. I've eaten at countless Chinese restaurants over the years and I was really impressed. Highly recommend the drunken noodles. I had it with shrimp. Highly recommended.
I've been in love with Thai for about 5 years now. I have to say this is by far the worst Thai I have ever eaten. I order the basil fried veggie rice, medium w/ no mushroom or green beans and a side order of veggie spring rolls. There was barely any basil and the rice tasted like plain white rice with over cooked vegetables. There was no spice to it what so ever. The spring rolls were over cooked with very little vegetables and had a mushy texture on the inside with no flavor. I honestly would never recommended this place smh. Total waste of $20.
Food was Fantastic! Server must have been new, needs some training. But I will be back for some yummy noodles!!!
Good prices and great food. I appreciate the SE Asian beer selection.
Love that they make it so easy to do carry out and online ordering. Outside seating really helps too.
Delicious! It's the only thai food I've ever had, so I suppose I can't speak to the quality in comparison, but Chiang Mai is a regular indulgence in my house. The service is always speedy and polite, and the tea is fresh and hot. I always get the ginger tea.
Pad See Ewe lunch combo was delicious and cheap($8). Service was very fast and friendly.
