A cosy local Thai restaurant in Palatine, IL, led by former owners of Tawan Thai in Algonquin. Dine-in, to-go, delivery is available.
The sign out front said it was under new ownership. I took that as a good sign; however, the atmosphere and food were not good. I had the Massaman curry with beef and it seems like they just threw a bunch of ingredients into a curry. The potatoes and carrots were undercooked and the beef was tough. This was not a curry simmering on the stove for a few hours with all the flavors melding together. ( I know my Thai food, as I used to live there). The restaurant smelled like raw sewage. I do not recommend.
My family and I would go to their former Restaurant 'Thai won tai' in Crystal lake all the time. We were deviated when they had closed down, but once we found out the relocated to here we all hopped in the car and raced here! The main Waitress is one of the kindest people I have ever experienced at a restaurant. We do have a semi-personal connection with her and the owners of the restaurant. Here the restaurant is very cozy and well decorated. Everyone who help run the place work so hard every day, my family and I are very grateful for making every trip here as best as it can be. I would highly recommend this to people, their menu has a wide variety for many different diets. The food itself is well made by a few very skilled chefs who know what they're doing. Every time we get something new it becomes a favorite! The food and talent here deserves to be put everywhere!
We ordered the tom kha soup, red snapper and green chicken curry. The green chicken curry was our favorite dish out of the three. The curry sauce was delicious and seasoned beautifully. The Tom kha soup was decent, but just mediocre. We have enjoyed much better Tom kha soup. The red snapper dish was presented well, but not something we would order again. It was to salty for our taste and sticky sweet.
Edit: The restaurant has been sold. Recipes are different and not for the better. While still good, it's no longer excellent. :(
Was in Schaumburg for work and me and a coworker decided on Sukho Thai. Food was excellent and the restaurant was pretty quiet. Lots of people came in for take out though. Had Khao Soi which is a northern Thai dish that I don't see state side too often and it was excellent! The Moo Bing and Som Tam were also great. Will visit again when I'm back in a few months.
Sukho Thai is the best and most authentic Thai food I’ve ever had in Illinois. The staff are some of the most kind and friendly, in fact most remember me and my order that I don’t even have to be brought a menu. They always have smiles on under their masks and are happy to serve you and it shows!
Let’s talk about the food though for a second.. nothing I’ve had on the menu has been bad and my favorite is the sweet stir fry chicken, Sukho spicy beef and the jasmine rice soup. You will not be sorry trying anything on their menu!!
We came for lunch. They have many lunch specials at very reasonable prices. I had a delicious curry dish with chicken. I will definitely be going back. Ha! I am craving it right now!
A great little find. Best Thai Food in the area. The owner and staff are friendly.
Excellent Thai place.. small setting.
Fresh food. Been coming here for 25 years .. owners changed .. but not the flavors.

Best Thai Curry that exists, a favorite place to eat, highly recommend!
The flavors were authentic and very delicious. I’ll definitely be coming back to explore more of the menu.

First time I came my Lad Nar was salty. Second I cam my Pad Sa Eew was way too sweet. Heard about new management sp today I stopped by. Paid for papaya salad but most it was lettuce.
Excellent food and great service with amazing prices for the quality.
Great quality Thai food
My family and I cannot rave more about the wonderful food you'll find here! We were regular customers of their location in Algonquin, and are ecstatic to find them back in the game... the additional drive is well worth it.
Great vegan options, and very knowledgeable on what dishes need modifications.
If you like spicy food... you're in for a treat!
Tip: Start at level 2, ask for some additional chili on the side if you want more heat.
If you don't like spice, no worries, everything tastes amazing as-is!
The servers are so very sweet, we're greeted with smiles every time.
Some recommended favorites: Pad Ke Mao, Panang Curry, Tom Ka soup, and the mango sticky rice for dessert!
Also delicious fruity drinks
Great place to eat red snapper and duck are a go to and any of the noodle dishes are excellent choices can’t go wrong we love this place so glad they opened back up we were regulars in their Algonquin location before they relocated
This is the first time I have ordered from here & I got the Pad-Thai with beef for take out and it was super yum! The portion size is more than enough and the flavors were perfect. This will for sure be my new go-to place!!
THE BEST Thai! Same owners and menu as Ta Wan Thai in Algonquin and the food is just as good as when they were in Algonquin!
We celebrated few friends’s birthday at the restaurant.
The food was delicious, the staff was very pleasant
And accommodating to us. I had a great experience.
Amazing, great food
Update: still great food. Wish I could cook like this resteraunt. The flavor is always perfect.
The food is always hot and fresh and ready within 20min. Perfect for take outs and super allergy friendly meals.
Portion was great..food was ok...new owners not the same cook and not as good...was done on time.....free parking....price average...atmosphere poor.
The food is really terrible. They served me cold tofu fried rice and a horrible crispy noodle. The service lady is so mean and not even responding. Overall 1/10
Food is always awesome. Ordered many times.
This restaurant is wonderful. They allow you to carry in, so you can go to the liquor store next door, grab your drinks, then eat amazing food and try not to overeat. I highly reccomend this restaurant.
Reasonable price, good foods.
I would not pick this place and waste your money, especially when takeout is so pricey. Everything tastes old and as though it has been sitting out for hours, not freshly made. Pad thai was big bowl of mush with no seasoning - I am scared I am going to get food poisoning after eating the eggs in the dish, as they smelled and tasted rancid. Crab ragoon was soggy and also lacked any flavor. I am not the type to go out of my way and leave a negative review, let alone for a small business, but I feel scammed.
Delicious food! I went in around lunchtime and had one of the lunch specials for $8.50. Adding chicken, pork, or beef is $2.00, but I like shrimp and that was $4.00. It's still a great deal for lunch these days, considering that the lunch specials include soup and an appetizer. I had Massaman curry and it was perfect.
My wife loves your food, and we've never been disappointed!!!
Edit: The restaurant has been sold. Recipes are different and not for the better. While still good, it's no longer excellent. :(

Awesome Thai Food. Although sometimes they can take quite a bit of time to get the food ready for take-out, especially when it's lunch/dinnner time. Despite that though, we come here all the time. Would definitely recommend it.
Very, very good food, the best I have found in the suburbs! I had:
a) Tofu Pad Thai: very good and properly savoury all components were top notch
b) Chicken Panang Curry:excellent also. Liked the krinkle cut carrots, broccoli was a very welcome change.
c) Tom Kha soup (beef)was excellent as well I ordered it three-star hot out of five and it was perfect.
I cook both A and B at home and have had them at many, many restaurants this was a great find and will become my go-to despite being 30 mins away. Fresh home cooking you can taste, you will love for TAKE OUT dining!! Cheers
Legit top tier Thai food! We order lunch from here all the time and it is always *so* good. Our faves are the spicy basil chicken, panang curry, and crab rangoons but honestly everything worth trying!
The lunch specials are especially great because they come with a yummy soup and rangoon on the side that instantly won my kids over too.
Can’t recommend this place enough!!
great food. thank you
Nothing fancy about it but delicious food at a reasonable price. Drunken Noodles are my go to here and they're delicious.
The staff is very courteous and attentive. Not too intrusive. I enjoyed my dinner here.
Food is really tasty especially Khao Soi(Curry Noodle Soup), this is best dish they have. Other dishes like green curry or Pad Thai Noodles are also good. Price is reasonable and quantity is also good.
Great food and service. Inside seating was cold.
Horrible wait line! After 30 min I walked out hingry! Ridiculous.
Great place! All the food was phenomenal and the staff was so kind. Ordering was very flexible, substitutions no problem, and the atmosphere was really chill :) def recommend!
Stopped here randomly on our way out of Chicago!! Ordered egg rolls, crab Rangoon, beef pad Thai and shrimp chow mein delight. All were so delicious and we had leftovers! Definitely will be making special trips to eat here again!!
This was a carry-out order, so I won't comment about the ambience.
The food was very good. The level of spiciness almost exactly what I expected, which for me is medium-hot. Midwesterners beware; I'm sure they can "turn up the heat" if it's requested. Though they also offer a "no-heat" level of spice.
Generous portions of both pork and broccoli in my order. For me the broccoli was cooked just right; still firm but not "crispy".
My only complaint would be the amount of cooking oil used, a bit too much for me, not that it negatively effected the flavor, but it did negatively effect the texture a bit.
Good value, good food.
We really like that place.very tasty food.
Tom-kha soup ,rice with pineapple and shrimps are our favorite .
The meal was well prepared and delicious.
Ordered a lunch special to go today, thinking it would be good ... was basically chicken and veggies floating in hot water with stuff that wasn't even listed on the menu included in the dish. Will not be coming back.
Absolutely the best, highest quality Thai food I’ve found outside of Thailand. 10/10. Out of body experience. Would eat here every day if I lived here.
What a hidden gem. The price is superb and green curry is yum and rich flavor. I can tell that there is no MSG. One thing- for fried rice, I would like to see more veggies. Except that, this is my go to place if I visit Chicago next time.
The host was very welcoming and attentive. Our appetizer, Golden Bags, was brought out quickly and was delicious. Our main course was brought out shortly after the appetizers were finished and were equally delicious. We had Pad Thai and Basil Chicken. We'll be going back.
Really good food !
Taste good! You can choose spicy level. So Our family and friends can have happy times. My friend recommended me this place, Thank you!
Great food, great prices, fast service.
I love this place the food is always on point
All time favorite
Good food, reasonable prices. And they prepare super fast, very convenient on working days. My go to place for lunch on weekdays.
Really nice people food is reasonable cost and taste is pretty good as well. Luncheon specials are awesome and quickly served.
The food ordered was ready faster than estimated. I ordered online and was given a 20min variance to pickup. I ordered 3 dinners 2 at a level 4 of heat, 1 at a level 1, all 3 were a level 4. After a few bites I called, the restaurant remade the meal but by the time I got home for the 2nd time I wasn't hungry. I would order again from this establishment.
Food was good. It was ready fast, reasonably priced, and pretty decent portions sizes.
Food was very good! we ordered everything with a spice/heat level of 2, usually we have to add our own heat from other restaurants, not here! we may order level 1 next time!
Ordered twice. Both times food was FABULOUS! Generous portions, always yummy! Note: Items may be ordered 0-5 on the spiciness spectrum which is great instead of saying "hot" or "a little hot" or "really hot;" however, we like hot - really hot - but 4 was too hot for us. We ordered level 3 this time and it was excellent. Spicy, make your nose run, but not too spicy, I can't taste anything but spice. Absolutely recommend.
Great food, fresh and delicious and great prices!
Huge portions, ridiculously fair prices (especially for the lunch specials), and the food is far better than some of the most expensive Thai I have paid for downtown. 10/10 would recommend. Oh, and their take out is FAST.
A small hidden gem in a shopping center truly caught my partner and I by surprise. When I arrived for my pickup order, the food was sitting there nice and hot on the table as soon as I stepped through the door. There was one lady cooking all of the food. She was skillfully tossing veggies in a pan as I could see her through the opening. I asked for soy sauce and was only given three and asked for a few more. Obviously, the woman knew more than I did as the food was so flavorful and juicy that soy sauce was not a necessity! We left those packets right on the counter! When I tell you, the flavors were dancing across my taste buds I am not lying! The food didn’t look as though it would taste the way it did! I am highly satisfied. So satisfied in fact, that I wish I had of saved a morsel in my teeth for later! When I tell you the food was BUSSIN! It was BUSSIN! I would add a photo but the food was consumed too quickly for photography. Five stars baby!!!!!
This is an amazing dining experience. From the moment I walked into the door the servers were phenomenal! Providing recommendations, their attentiveness, and overall service is unmatched!!
This small place was fantastic. Small and quiet. The food was great and the service friendly. No fancy, just solid. We did BYOB from next door. Will be back!
the BEST thai I’ve ever had. Kind personable staff, great atmosphere, and you can literally taste the love their food is made with. New go-to dinner place :)
Be careful about the this place it gave me serious food poisoning
This is the 1st time I actually felt scammed by a restaurant. First time ordering. Called in a dinner order at 5:01 for pick-up and was told my order would be ready in 10-15 min. Got there at 5:14 and, sure enough, it was ready. No customers dining in and my order appeared to be the only ToGo order ready at that moment.
Spicy Basil Fried Rice add shrimp. There were 5 TAIL-ON shrimp, a slight gooey sweetness and overwhelming basil flavor, none of which I cared for. NEVER have I been served fried rice with tail-on shrimp in the past 1/2 a century.
Wonton soup - pink in color with dry barbecued pork, and a gross wonton noodle that was thin, pink, flabby and disintegrated. The dumpling flavor itself wasn't bad. The pink tinted soup was disgusting. I've NEVER been served pink wonton soup. Obviously it wasn't fresh and had been sitting around for a while as the pink barbecue color leeched into the broth. My own white pepper, soy sauce and chili oil couldn't fix this disaster.
Their namesake house dish (5 Star Delight) was supposed to be breaded chicken sautéed in a chili paste (which was served on the side rather than cooked into the dish?) with green peppers, carrots and peapods. This actually smelled good, but had to have been leftover or prepared at another time. Some of the breading was hard.
You can't prepare and bag this meal in 13 minutes or less unless it was already made. The bulk of the meal -- incl. the chicken and shrimp went down the garbage disposal. Thirty-two dollars worth. Never done that before for any take-out from anywhere, but in this case, thought it was the most sensible and safe thing to do.
I wish I had taken photos. This restaurant is another example of one that should never have gone into business. Seems like a lot of hassle to intentionally screw things up.
My go to Thai
Really love the food here! Especially the basil fried rice. The people here are dedicated and they care about the customers!
Popular local favorite. Food is consistent and serving size generous.
Green curry is yummy!
Best fried rice
This food was over spicy and taste old.
You want the best Thai food? You have found just the right place. Honestly everything is super flavorful! I wish I lived close, because I’ll be there every week. Just thinking about their food is making me hungry!
Great service
Best Thai food in the area!
Very friendly and food is really yummy. expecially tom yum soup..
Whenever we want incredible, delicious, Thai food, this is the only place I will visit.
It's intimate in the sense of not being a huge restaurant and therefore guest are well attended to , but I believe that it's the quality( and quantity:) of the food that will keep you going back again and again .
Quick and always consistent!
Don't go, while service was fine food was poor.
This place is our go-to for Thai food. It has the trifecta: good quality food with generous portions, quick service, reasonable prices.
Get the tom kha with 3* spicy. Green curry hits too.
I've eaten here at least 4 times now and it's becoming a regular spot. The food is really good and the portions are pretty big. Their lunch specials are really well priced and delicious. Haven't had a bad meal yet! Ambiance leaves a bit to be desired, and they serve their food out of to-go containers, so maybe not the best place for a fancy date night, but it's prefect for solid Thai food for a good price!
I look forward to enjoying lunch here every week and have come regularly for several years. They even catered a party I had with 100 people last summer. It's a quaint little spot in the corner of a strip mall, and the food has so much flavor. They make it as spicy as you request (I request mild), and everything is custom made, so if you don't want green peppers, it's no problem. My "same thing" every week is the spicy basil vegetable with noodles and tofu, and it is so beautiful and delicious. The lunch special is a good deal with an appetizer and soup, and the dinner portions are filling. Save room for the mango and sticky rice for dessert. Nom.
Best Basil Chicken!
Definitely enjoyed my time here. It is a small restaurant and there is indoor seating. As of this review we were able to sit inside and eat.
I ordered the panag currey with tofu which was really good. The tofu was nice and crispy and the panang flavor was great. It comes with a carton of rice as well.
I will go again.
Favorite Thai place in the area - have tried other restaurants and nothing compares.
Great food.
Smells like a toilet now, very dirty and grimey. We walked right out
Very good food. Just put some extra clothing on, place is always cold. Also, you can BYOB with the liquor store right next door.
Been ordering here for months now and food has never failed to amaze. Food taste really good. Can request to customize your order. Great service.
We called very late at night and they stayed open late to cook for us! We got tofu pad thai and seafood curry, both were amazing. This is definitely the best thai food around, for a great price and plentiful portions!
I used to come with my family pre covid and they always had such friendly service. Their food is always authentic and fresh even now that they are doing to go. Highly recommend!
Very good! It was easy to order online and the food was ready very quickly. I ordered the Hot Thai Curry sauce extra spicy. Usually when I order spicy from an Asian restaurant I still need to put more red peppers, chili sauce, or something else to heat it up, but not here. It was SPICY! I'm glad I had milk in the fridge. Will be ordering from here again.
Excellent and authentic Thai food
Very Good food and fast service
Good prices for what you get
Thoroughly recommend the basil and the Tom Kha soup! I've ordered from here several times via grubhub and the food is just as delicious each time! Delivery is fast, and the restaurant even called me one time when they had a question about my order. Excellent service! I look forward to dining in when the world is back to some kind of normal!
Food is sooo good ☺️ Pad Thai is very good and flavorful. Will try Drunken Noodle and Roast Duck Curry
Lots of fish sauce. Curry didn't seem very authentic compared to other places.
This place has great quality fresh ingredients prepared with care!
We've ordered from here a few times since the change in ownership. All the noodle dishes and curries we've tried were excellent. And last nights "Sukhothai 5 star" was just outstanding. An interesting twist on sweat/sour chicken. Haven't had a bad dish yet.
This was our family favorite restaurant but new owners cheapened it. It is no longer authentic taste, for example Pad Thai is just macaroni in sauce with no vegetables at all. We will have to look for a new place.
Ordered through Door Dash tonight.. and even tho my crab Rangoon wasn’t sent, the flavor of all the food I did get was amazing. The Pad Si Ew and the panang curry both phenomenal. Will definitely order again.
Excellent cozy fresh clean and tasty Thai dishes. Don't know how I missed this having stayed in the area almost 5 years. Food was not at all greasy. Felt very clean and healthy. Lots of vegetarian choices. This is going on my frequent visit list.
So far my favorite Thai place in palatine area.
I got their green curry and pad thai and they were amazing!
The lady who is there is super sweet.
Excellent food; great service; reasonable prices for dinner and lunch!
So disappointed!!! We used to absolutely love this place, but apparently they have new ownership or something. It has a new name (SUKHO Thai Cuisine) and a different menu. We didn't know this when we called to order for carryout as the website hasn't been updated as of this review. I ordered the basil fried rice, which used to be absolutely amazing and a favorite of mine, but what I recieved was definitely different and dramatically spicier, while less flavorful overall. I couldn't eat much of it. Upon some research we learned that the new menu item is "spicy basil fried rice." My husband ordered the chicken garlic delight, which is still listed on the website as "Stir-fried meat, baby corn, and mushrooms, with garlic sauce, over steamed broccoli." What he recieved was literally just some chicken pieces sauteed with garlic. No vegetables or sauce. He said it was good, but I really feel like we should have been informed, especially since "garlic delight" isn't on the new menu at all. I will say that the crab rangoons and baby egg rolls were still good, so maybe we'll give this place another try in the future now that we've actually seen the updated menu and can make more informed choices when ordering. For now, though, I'm feeling pretty annoyed and sad to think I might never get to eat my favorite fried rice dish again. Admittedly, I'm pregnant and extra irritable, so take this review with a grain of salt.
Ok
My favorite local pad thai that I compare all other pad thai to.
We eat all the time and it is byob they will bring out cork screw and glasses. Highly recommend the basil chicken...
Paya salad and sticky mango rice desert is better than most other places I have tried. All our appetizers and main courses were flavorful. A+ across the board
This is our go to place for Thai food in the area. The portions are large and delicious. Their noodle dishes are top notch and their crab rangoon is the best I've had. My wife loves their Pad Thai. Only some take out so can't speak to the dining in experience.
Not as good as it used to be. Don't order crispy fish. It's not authentic thai.
It was a fantastic meal, I really enjoyed it!
Always love the food and atmosphere
Food is absolutely delicious and well worth the stop. Highly, highly recommend :)
The owner of the restaurant is so kind and she makes sure that you are eating comfortably, constantly refilling your drink and other things. Great customer service. Food is delicious and tastes homemade 😋 My favorite is the Chu Chee shrimp!
Delicious food, warm and inviting hostess!!! Family favorite for a generation
Very nice and peaceful atmosphere. Tastyeeee 👍😁
