A quality Thai restaurant.
Absolutely phenomenal food. Would dine again and try more things on the menu. I had the chicken Yellow Curry and it was amazing. The curry slapped and the chicken was so so so well cooked. It was the juiciest, most cooked chicken I could have expected. They deserve the Michelin Guide oof.
When I received my food, I found that the drinks had been poured over.which was the most disgusting thing for me. I found that there was some white foam in this cup of milk tea that did not disperse.never used door dash 🤢🤮🤮🤒There is no doubt that it is the restaurant's problem, but the drinks in the fresh-keeping package were opened, which is very unsafe for takeout. Chicken wings taste good.
Loved our experience at Funky Elephant! Everything we ordered was super flavorful; the brussels sprouts were a standout, as silly as that sounds. The chef was even kind enough to remake a dish that was too hot for some of the people in our group. The staff were also really accommodating and helped make a really fun birthday celebration for our large party. Not to mention such cute decor and great music! We will be back.
Funky Elephant is arguably the best Thai food one can find anywhere! Every dish is bursting with flavor, the staff and owners are unbelievably kind, and the ambiance instead is fun and playful. I easily get their food two or three times a month!
Some must try’s are the crispy rice salad? Brussels sprouts, drunken mussels, pad Thai, and wholesome noodles. Ask them for a Thai tea Arnold Palmer too! So good!!!
“Funky” is definitely the right word to describe this place — not for the faint of heart, it’s got a creative and sometimes strange menu full of Thai flavor.
The Pad Thai Old Skool is 100% the star of the show. It’s got a great mouthfeel, smooth flavor, and a nice crunch with the granulated peanuts.
The Super Jungle Curry was… not what we were expecting. It was less of a curry and more of a broth, with a few bites of meat and some string beans. To be honest, the portioning was smaller than we expected, and the flavor was not at the same level of the pad Thai. The heat was good, but it was the only thing exciting about this dish — we wouldn’t recommend it for first time visitors.
The service was decent, albeit a bit hard to grab the attention of — we had to try a few times to get our bill (the servers seemed pretty swamped, so we understand that staffing issues are generally out of the service worker’s control).
We were perhaps most surprised that rice was not included with any of the dishes, so we had to pay for a small side. The silver lining? The Butterfly Pea Jasmine rice had a lightly herbaceous flavor, and the natural colors dyed it bluish-purple! Definitely a fun aspect that really put the “funky” in “funky elephant”.
Overall, the decor and atmosphere are fun and creative, but the food sometimes felt like it was trying too hard. Not for the faint of heart, but an adventurous eater could easily fall in love with it.
Came here with a friend and were seated immediately!
Good:
- Great ambiance for catching up, a little dim inside
- The Pad Thai was amazing, a ton of flavor and the shrimp inside was jumbo sized
- The crispy tofu came with a really tasty sauce
- The rice salad was great too! It had a lot of crunchy flavor and it was fun to eat
Bad
- Took a bit of time for the food to arrive to our table
- A little hard to flag down the servers
Overall the food was excellent and thought that the only downside was the service.

Pretty good Thai food. The appetizers we got were all very good. The classic pad Thai was a bit bland in my opinion. The roti was a bit too greasy.
Food was OK, wouldn't return. Not sure why the ratings are so high here.
Quite disappointing experience at the funky elephant on Valencia. We ordered grilled king oyster mushrooms, Roti with green curry and the crispy tofu. The Mushroom and Crispy tofu were good but the roti was just soaking with oil to the point you could collect a spoonful of oil from the plate. The curry was over salted and my guess is too much fish sauce, needless to say we didn’t eat most of it. For the main course we ordered yellow curry with chicken, Motherland Curry and pad thai with KGM soup. The soup and pad thai were over salted. The pad thai was inedible after a point, you could tell it wasn’t mixed properly because some parts were very salty and some parts were bland. The motherland curry was alright though you could tell the fish wasn’t fresh or refrigerated properly so the curry was tasting very fishy. The chicken curry was good. Overall out of the 7 dishes we tried 2 stood out as good and one as okay. The service was quite slow we had to wait 25 mins for our appetizers to arrive. Will likely not go back
Amazing food and staff! Thank you.

You need to come here if you are looking for authentic Thai food! The most delicious Thai food in SF Bay Area!
Newish - yummy.
Got the Gang Rawang Beef.
Got the smallest steak I’ve ever seen in my life. 6oz steak for $27 with a small salad for a side. Barely a meal.
I’d recommend they’d at the very least put the size on the menu or ideally increase the steak to 8-10oz for that price.

Four of us ordered food to go from here. I especially like that they had wild fish and Mary's chicken as options so I knew the quality of the meat would be good.
We ordered the Crispy Rice Salad, Roti with Yellow Curry, Party Wings, Pad Thai Old Skool, and the Motherland Curry with wild rock cod. We ordered the Pad Thai and curry Firey so we did expect to to be Thai Spicy, but it was not spicy enough. While it did have a nice heat and good flavor it wasn't Thai spicy or Firey.
All the dishes tasted really good. The Pad Thai had head on shrimp that was very well cooked and delicious. The Curry's rock fish was moist and the chicken wings were sticky and had a good slice to them.
Overall the food was very good. I would order from here again but I would choose to do dine in and I would not do take out again. This is because the portions were very small, especially the Crispy Rice. Definitely not a shareable dish. But sometimes when ordering to go, portions are smaller but for the price you would expect and want more.
Hoping on our next visit we can try a few other items we were looking at as well.
Yellow Curry Chicken was the best food I’ve ever had. Do not think twice about coming here.
BEST THAI FOOD I’ve had in a LONG TIME!! Fresh, colorful, and tons of FLAVOR! Papaya salad had just the right amount of heat. Crispy tofu was suuuuper CRISPY! So awesome!!!
We went back a second time and weren't quite as wowed. Mussells were B+, steak curry was tasty but very mild, charred greens didn't have much flavor at all. Still, the food is fresh and colorful, and I'll give it another shot as one of the few such Thai places around, AFAIK. Next time I'll ask for "Thai hot."
hit the spot! All the classic dishes you’d expect with a twist. Very good ingredients. Loved the curries and the mushroom special
Great outdoor dining area. Excellent food. We’ve been a few times and ordered something different each time. You can’t go wrong.
Too bad SF police don’t control the loud illegal motorcycle side shows on Valencia.
Pretty non-standard thai food that doesnt quite hit. In fact, it kind of misses.
The rice salad was extremely salty. No amount of lettuce or lime would have made it palatable. Thankfully, the server was able to waive it from our order.
Likewise, the pad thai was also on the salty side althoguh the flavor was decent.
The curry was not quite curry. The “sauce” was quite liquid although quite flavorful and the meat surprisingly tender.
Overall, the value was not great

This is our spot. Food is always good!

I love their food even though some ppl might think their food is too flavorful. I'm Thai and their food reminds me of my mom food. If you look for authentic Thai food, this place it is.
Overpriced, marginal Thai food.
Parking sparse. Metered parking on street.
This place was not it. Food was poor / smaller portions, service was horrible with barely any checking in on tables, and incredibly slow. Try another spot.
Small portions but very well done
We ordered five dishes and everything was so salty. All the dishes were saucy, nothing was flavorful. Next day we had a diarrhea.
No A/C so be warned on warm days! I sat in the parklet so that was okay. The decor is really cute; disco balls and rainbow lights everywhere, including in the bathroom.
Overall, the food was a 4/5. Everything was quite salty and I’m glad I ordered a side of sticky rice. Honestly the sticky rice was my favorite part.
The menu was introduced as spicy, but honestly the hot salsa at Chipotle is much spicier than even their “most spicy” item, the pad thai.
Great Thai spot in the mission. Flavorful dishes, awesome vibe, reasonable prices. Will be back!
Awesome new place in the area! Their pad thai is famous, but also loved the crispy rice salad, brussel sprouts, and the KMG!! They’re also really great at helping with dietary restrictions (subbing pork for tofu, etc). And the atmosphere was super fun. Highly recommend!
I am thrilled to have this here in the city. The flavors are excellent, just the right combination of intense and balanced. They are unapologetic in using true Thai flavors—fish sauce, tangy citrus and vinegar, and chilis, and I love it. The vibe is nice, the wine (mostly natural wines) and beer selection are fun on their own, but go very well with the food. And the staff was all very nice. Highly recommend, probably my favorite Thai restaurant in the city.
Our group had a few vegetarians that really enjoyed their food, as well. Not everything can be vegetarian, but the things that are were on point.
I DREAM about this place's pad thai. It has the perfect balance of salt, fat, acid, and heat that I crave about once a week. I used to drive to Berkeley to eat it, it's that good. Thank god they came to SF. Also -- best thai iced tea in the city. The crushed ice is top tier 👌
Was a little underwhelmed by the food. Just felt like another overpriced trying to be hip spot. Do yourself a favor and skip the appetizer. We got the egg salad which ended up being just two eggs and a piece of shrimp. For the price, I was hoping portions would be bigger. The pad Thai seemed like it just over indexed for spice and didn’t seem anything crazy except for the two prawn on top. Service was friendly and staff mean well. This just didn’t fit the vibe we were looking for.
Fun spot. Thai food done right!
Papaya salad is amazing! Hella cute. Good service!
great nam khao
Just delicious!!
Delicious Thai food in a fun party-like space.
Yum Kai Dao (Fried Egg Salad) - crispy egg with a tangy sauce that cuts through the fried flavor. Would recommend as it's not a dish you'd readily find in other Thai restaurants
Pad Thai - sweet, spicy, and packs serious spice
Kao Mun Gai - chicken was tender and rice was flavorful. I also really like how the chili was spicy and tangy
I had the vermicelli cod curry- it was so good! I’m so happy this place opened.
