Traditional Thai dishes are served with modern flair at this casual-chic eatery with a bar & patio.
Wanted to give La Ong Thai a try, since I've been looking for more Thai restaurants, and I'm glad I found this place!
The Food: I got the Beef Pad Thai and a Beef Thai Fried Rice. The noodles were cooked well and the beef was nice and tender. The flavor from both the noodles and rice were delicious and authentic. Portion sizes are generous as well.
The Service: Ordered take-out, but the service was very good! Ordered my food, and it didn't take long at all. I got there early and was in and out quick.
The Atmosphere: Nice, clean and spacious on the inside. The decor was very nice and homey as well.
Overall, a 5/5. Food was absolutely delicious. I'll be back for sure!
The staff here is super friendly. Every time I went, I was greeted with a smile no matter if they were busy or not. I haven't taken the time to dine here so I cannot comment on the service but based on the staff that I get in contact with at the front desk and the amount of people there usually, I could tell it's a great service. The food is incredibly good. I order so much the staff remembers me now to the point where they just hand me my food as I walked in without asking me what's my name or what's my phone number LOL
The fried rice here is one of the best in class. Fried rice doesn't sound very adventurous for a foodie but trust me, this fried rice here is to die for! Get it with shrimp or crab meat or chicken or beef, it doesn't matter. I've tried all and all of them were good. All other Thai staples were also good. I usually rotate between the fried rice, pad see ew, drunken noodle (it's like spicy pad see ew), and pad thai. I get pad thai least because it's too sweet for me personally. Chicken larb and beef salad are bomb! I also get penang curry from time to time but I must say that one isn't the best I've ever had (it's a solid 7/10). All the other ones I mentioned are either 9/10 or 10/10.
Another recent one I've tried and really like is Nua Swan - the dried beef with sticky rice. That combo works really well. It's an appetizer portion. The veggie spring rolls I also highly recommend. I also occasionally order tom yum noodle soup. However, their noodles are quite too sweet for me so I don't crave for them that often. I tried the whole fried fish one time and I didn't recall it to be good so I've never ordered again. It's possible they've improved it since.
The place isn't huge so it's always packed. It has dark paints and dim lighting inside. I wouldn't be able to get very good pictures of the food indoor. However, this decoration is very modern, fresh, and clean. The plus side is that the friendly waitresses brighten up the place. La Ong is top tier Thai food in this area. Start with my recommendations above if you're not sure what to order. When I don't want to think too much and I'm hungry, I always default to La Ong fried rice!!
We were sad when we moved to Reston that we weren’t going to be close to our old favorite Thai place. La Ong came to the rescue. Literally the day we moved in we ordered from here with no expectations and boy was it good. We love this place and go far too often. My personal favorites are the Khao Soi and the Crispy Rice Salad but honestly everything here is really good. They also do not shy away from spice here so be warned that spicy is spicy so get medium or mild if you can’t handle spice. Personally I love it when a restaurant listens to me and makes it spicy.
Been here twice now. Love the vibe, great outdoor seating, fantastic food with great portions! They don't cheap out on the meat also--which is becoming common these days. Mango sticky rice is soooo good. Their sticky rice is purple which I recently discovered on my trip to New York--love it! Highly recommend.
starters were great we got the calamari and the vegetable summer rolls and my meal was pretty good too but the chocolate "lava" cake we got took quite a long time to come out and wasn't really a lava cake and had a kind've gritty texture, but again appetizers were delicious
Really good Thai food. Spring rolls were delicious. If you like hot food you will enjoy

This may be the end of ordering from this place. The online ordering no longer supports ordering as a guest and tries to sign you up for a mailing list. Not going to do it, have to order elsewhere now. This is absolutely absurd.

As a Thai food enthusiast who makes it a point to try all the Thai restaurants in the area whenever I’m in a new place, La Ong Thai has easily become my favorite spot in the Herndon-Reston area. While it may not boast the extravagant decor or hype of the highest-rated Thai restaurants nearby, the food tastes just as good if not better.
What makes La Ong Thai stand out is its consistency. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and served in generous portions. If you’re a fan of bold basil flavors like me, their Drunken Noodle and Spicy Basil Fried Rice are very good. The basil truly shines in these dishes, creating a depth of flavor that’s hard to find elsewhere.
La Ong Thai might not be the fanciest, but it offers unbeatable value and taste. Whether you’re craving authentic Thai food or simply want a satisfying, well-priced meal, this place is a must-visit. It’s my go-to recommendation for anyone looking for quality Thai cuisine in the area!
Picky New Yorker here! I LOVED this place this perfect little hole in the wall is both aesthetically cute and also the food was amazingly fresh and authentic. 10/10 would come again.
Friendly, homey local Thai restaurant. Food is excellent - very tasty. Service is friendly and quick, although when they're busy they very occasionally forget to bring the tea. Which seldom happens.
We particularly like their falls-apart-in-your-mouth slow-cooked pork "special" (quotes because it's been listed as a seasonal special on the chalkboard for months now), (large tofu) summer rolls, (very fresh) spring rolls, chicken satay, seafood lemongrass soup (didn't like the tofu one as much), coconut-milk tom kha soup, tofu or chicken pad thai, drunken noodles, sauteed brussels sprouts with garlic, chicken panang, eggplant-minced chicken salad, pad see ew... I love their salmon when it isn't too spicy for me (my problem, not theirs). Good jasmine tea and brown rice... The ice cream is tasty too.
Nothing fancy; just some booths, a very few tables, and a small place to eat outside.
Tends to be busiest at peak lunchtime (about 12:15-1 weekdays); might have to wait then. Unless it's completely full and sometimes even then, it's nice and quiet. If you want to just go someplace and have yummy food and relax, this is a good one.
Other than during the peak of the pandemic, we have mostly eaten in. Have done takeout and delivery plenty of times also though. Have been happy eating their pretty much since they opened (before that, it was the very different Five Guys).
We have gotten lunch and dinner, dozens of times. They don't do brunch and as far as I know they don't do breakfast either.
Food was hot and tasty. Enough for leftovers or sharing. Pad Thai and ginger chicken were delicious.

Exactly service. The ladies here are very attentive and provide great service. Generous portions and hot, fresh food. Definitely a yummy spot and a good choice for dinner any night.
Hawaiian Shrimp is excellent
Great food, great service. I love their panang curry and tried the chicken mhoo sai yesterday. It was amazing! Their chicken satay is great as well.
Great authentic Thai food and great service
Extremely good place and great people
Lovely gem in Fox Mills. The food is fantastic, and the service is outstanding. I highly recommend the fried rices - great portions, excellent spice level. Perfect. My wife and daughter like the drunken noodles, which I agree are great. They have a few outside tables, too, which are nice.
Homey, excellent Thai flavors. I have been a few times. The chilli sea bass was the best I ever had! Fresh ingredients, local charm, family atmosphere, very attentive staff, moderate prices. Appetizer, dinner and tea for 32 USD.
Everytime you go there for pick up you have to wait 15 plus minutes. All other Thai places in this area there is no waiting you just go there and pick up. But this place sucks for pick up.
Good food Good price
Chili basil eggplant with chicken is my favorite. Only pick up but they are always nice
A staple in the community for amazing Thai food. All the dishes I’ve ever had have been amazing. I’ve been living in the area for over a decade and have tried almost every single menu item. The atmosphere is great and service has always been consistently good. Overall, one of the best Thai restaurants I’ve ever had and would highly recommend it.
Can’t rate the atmosphere b/c we ordered take out. This Thai food was better than most of what we have had in DC. They are also VERY reasonable in price. Highly recommend!
starters were great we got the calamari and the vegetable summer rolls and my meal was pretty good too but the chocolate "lava" cake we got took quite a long time to come out and wasn't really a lava cake and had a kind've gritty texture, but again appetizers were delicious
Definitely the best Thai place in the area. Service is always quick, prices are fair, and the food is incredibly delicious.
I usually don't bother with online food reviews, but man, I just had to say something about this place. So, I swung by for lunch and went for the Drunken Noodles with Beef special. Big mistake.
The noodles were like they'd seen better days, all sour and funky. And don't even get me started on the beef—it was chewier than a rubber band! I mean, I've had my fair share of Thai food, but this was a whole new level of disappointment.
I don't get how they're rocking ratings above 4, to be honest. Just had to give a heads-up to anyone thinking of stopping by. Hopefully, they step up their game soon. Until then, I'll be steering clear.
Delicious! Visited with friends for dinner and had such a delicious time! Loved the cozy atmosphere and the delicious food! Was fortunate enough to try the crispy duck and the crispy pork belly, and will definitely be back to try the recommended pineapple fried rice, which looked amazing. We ordered the homemade coconut ice cream at the end of our meal and were blown away by how fresh and delicious it was. I texted a friend to recommend this spot before we even left.
Very attentive service, but not overbearing. Really fast service. Yummy food.
I don't know what happened. Use to be good but now everything's so rich and SALTY. Look forward to lots of water and hydrating, for dessert. The pad se ew was so salty it was NOT edible. I've had them the last 3 times for thai night cuz I remember them being good and thought it was a fluke, but nope! It was worse everytime.. SALTY SALTY SALTY. Will be finding a new place for thai night.
This place is great and becoming more of a staple in my household for meals every few weeks. The food is fresh and excellent to taste. They have many choices on the menu and heat levels if you like it spicy. The staff is kind and informative on food choices and always friendly when visiting. The interior is small but cozy and warming. Very clean. This place must do well as everytime I order food for pick up there are always many orders and people in and out with food. An excellent choice if your in the area and the price is just right. Will continue to purchase from them as long as they keep up the high standards. Thanks
I got the Braise Beef Ka Pow and went ahead and dared fate with the Thai Spicy level. It was easily in the top 3 speciest dishes I have ever consumed and I was NOT let down. The beef was also cooked perfectly and I can't wait to order again once I recover the nerve endings in my face! Much love ❤️
Wife's last shift to work here, nice and cozy restaurant. Surprisingly busyish at times.
My go to Thai restaurant went south so this was recommended to me and I loved it. The chicken was tender and tasty. All was excellent!
Wonderful food, pleasant and responsive service!
Great Thai food. Generally pretty quiet. Very friendly.
Great Kitchen and bar
I really like their ka nam jeeb. The basil eggplant was so tasty too. The Penang curry was too sweet for me, but otherwise decent.
Love this place! It is the best Thai restaurant in the Herndon/Reston area. The people are always friendly and attentive. I especially love their Basil Eggplant, Drunken Noodle, and Pineapple Fried Rice. Highly recommend.
Left on hold for almost 10 minutes to simply place an order. Hung up. See ya never.
My favorite Thai restaurant in Northern Virginia! Fantastic authentic flavors, great service and great value! Can come and order dishes at my preferred Thai spicy but also bring the children and order medium or mild spice as you prefer.
The chicken fried rice and lava cakes were outstanding!!!! Mouth watering food and atmosphere vibes are insane. Our server was also very nice and had amazing hospitality and kindness. Definitely check this place out ASAP!!!!!
Very good but pricey.
It's a neighborhood restaurant and the food is good. While we mostly order for pickup, we eat there too sometimes.
La Ong is a cool Thai spot with cozy outdoor patio seating.
Be warned, there’s *another* nearby Thai spot with a similar name, Luang Thai, so be sure to clarify on the restaurant name. This unfortunate mix-up led to a half hour delay to work out logistics b/w our group.
Came here with family, and extended family. Group of four got seating in the patio outdoors. Initially a five minute wait, as there are only four tables in total.
If I remember our table had:
Tom Yum Noodle Soup
Spring Rolls
Drunken Noodles — Chicken
Pad See Ew — Pork
Spicy Basil Chicken (Fried Rice)
All food was good. I especially am partial to the chicken basil fried rice (fried rice anything, really).
Drunken noodles and pad see ew were able hand in hand equal. It did not help the dishes look really similar so it’s hard to tell one apart from the other.
All in all, decent food, and I’d recommend as a Thai spot in the Herndon area. Ofc, be sure to double-check the name of the spot to avoid mix-up’s, as mentioned above!
Food was okay. Service though was bad both time we were there especially this past Sunday afternoon on the 23rd. Waitress was ignorant and rolled eyes while taking order, plain rude. We walked in, she did not even said hello. We walked out passing her, she again ignored us and did not even thank us for the business. We shouldn't leaving any tips. We will not recommend this restaurant and will not return.
Really good Thai restaurants with a very diverse selection in the menu. Food was amazing and the staff were super friendly. It's one of the places that is worth going there to have a good night dinner. Super kids friendly and punctual and the food comes very fast.
I will definitely go back to the game. Enjoy while you can!
อร่อยโคตร โดยเฉพาะ ยำข้าวทอด ทีเด็ดเลย😁
Great place for thai food, especially tasty drunken noodles.
I am always here b for boat noodles. Theirs is the best in the area ! Tasty 😋
I got lunch is just amazing, food was very delicious I’ll be back to try more different dishes. I suggest this place to dine in
Great food. Great service!
Delicious food. The pad Thai is the best I've had in the US. The sear of the wok on the noodles and flavours are perfect. Ka Pow really good too.
Its pretty good, not too pricy, $18-20ish entrees for the dinner menu, $13-15ish lunch items. Satisfying meal for sure
Incredible Green Curry sauce.
Absolutely outstanding.
Worst customer service, this is based on my last two visits for takeout orders. I'll lead with this, NEVER do a takeout order from them, you will be disappointed. I'll give them this credit only, the food is/was good, but the sour taste left behind from the atrocious service just makes it a huge disappointment. I only went back a 2nd time because someone else in the house really wanted one of their dishes. I will never go back again.
We used to go all the time and during the pandemic started doing takeaway orders, always tipped well. However four months ago I walked in an inquired about my order and was harshly told that if it's not on the table it's not ready. She kept saying it wasn't ready. I waited and waited and finally asked another employee since it was well passed the time it was supposed to be ready, 20 minutes! It was there the whole time, on a rack behind the counter. Barely an apology, only when asked them why this happened and how it was unacceptable. I wrote an email to the restaurant and no response whatsoever.
Fast forward 4 months and I begrudgingly ordered again, figured it couldn't possibly happen again... I decided to get their after the time they gave me, so it should be ready to go. Nope. There were about 6 other people waiting. I finally got to give them my name and the person ran off and brought out one persons order. Some others noted how the wait was bad and they aren't helping anyone. It wasn't just me. Then I saw them bring out a order in a bag and place it on the table in the BACK of the restaurant. I joked that it was probably mine given my last experience, they all laughed. My order wasn't ready, so I waited. They asked my name again and this time I went over to their computer and pointed to my name. She went back and grabbed the bag in the BACK of the restaurant and gave it to me. It had been sitting there a solid 15 minutes. No apology again, I asked for the manger and she said he just slipped out. Sure... I then loudly noted that nobody should ever try takeout here because the service is horrible. In all my years this is the worst customer service of any restaurants I've been at anywhere in the world. And with that the longest restaurant review I've ever written. I recommend avoiding this place, I will.
So clean, so good, so kind ;)
Perfect place
This was my 1st experience coming here and I needed to eat some Thai food. I drove 1hr to come try it as it was recommended to me by a wonderful person. The restaurant is well located, there is enough all around and the reception was on point. The inside is not large but welcoming. I like the decorative aspect on the wall. The food was great, We had some duck 😋. The only thing I missed was that they only had vegetable Spring rolls I wanted some meat. Overall, it was a nice experience, the service was fast and on point. Will revisit.
Best Thai food I've ever had by a long way. I would eat here every day if I could afford to do that.
Not standout superb, but always dependable, service generally quick and friendly; prices typical for the area. A good reliable lunch spot.
Consistently great service and good food. I've dined regularly at La Ong Thai Bistro, and I keep coming back for the good food, great ambience and attentive service. No-stress parking, vegetarian options, street-food options, good beverage selection, kid friendly.
We had a party of 10 and everything was perfect. All of our food was hot and fresh and came out almost at the same time. This place never disappoints.
Amazing food, chill atmosphere. A whole gluten free menu which was great with a lot of options!
I'm not a huge Asian food fan but this was really good! Plus great and friendly service!
Our food was fantastic! I've never tried Green Curry and it may now be my new favorite. Can't wait to come back!
Food is okay but the quantity is not good. Customer service is horrible. I went to pickup from there and they told me it’ll be just 5 minutes but it took 30 minutes and no communication about why it’s so late. At home, after spending almost $40, I discovered the small portions. Not going there again.
Very nice people and the food was very tasty
Came here for the first time today. Food was delicious and service was amazing. I’d love to bring my family back here
Whether you dine in or takeout, La Ong is so delicious! Service is always amazing and the interior and patio are lovely. Don’t miss the shrimp pad Thai, ka nom jeep, or spring rolls!
This is one of our favorite Thai restaurants in the area. The fried rice is always good, and the service is great.
We go there regularly and the food and service is always good. Service outside is even good which is contrary to most of our experiences.
Love this place so much!! Thai food is my favorite and I’ve tried a lot of local places but I find myself coming back here the most. Definitely recommend if you’ve never tried it
Good Thai food and fast service. The panang curry is particularly good.
Great lunch specials and great food
Delicious, fast, kind friendly service
Been a regular customer loving their Kapow, garlic sauce, drunken noodles and some more. Usually their fried tofu is the best but there are some days where it's just the opposite of best. Again, usually their spice level matches what we request, but there are some off days where the spice is one level higher than the requested. Overall it's a good restaurant for both eat-in and take outs.
Really good Thai…quick and easy carry out too.
The best Thai!
Very good Thai food. Over the top service. The crispy chicken Basil has to be tried. Just Fantastic. Thanks for the great meal!
Terrible customer service. I have a severe egg allergy and told them multiple times explicitly no egg in our food. The food arrived filled with egg. They proceeded to ask us what we could do but would not offer any sort of an apology. It seems like they do not care about customers anymore as I’ve been coming to this place for several years, but will no longer be a customer.
Food comes out fresh and hot!!! Great little restaurant , everyone in very attentive!!!
One of the best places for authentic Thai food; Pad Thai, Boat Noodles, Moo Yang, are all super! Papaya Salad is good, but the flavor was too mild for us.
Ordered drunken noodles. It was barely edible. They missed notes and did not provide something so basic like cutlery despite mentioning twice.
Awesome staff and great food! I love their drunken noodles with tofu! Quick service!
I often ordered from this restaurant in the past but I’m done. I understand how they had to increase their prices, but after spending more than $30 I’m still hungry. It’s not acceptable to me that they’re now using tiny plates.
The service is awesome 👌 and the food is so tasty 😋 Thank you La Ong Bistro for the great experience.💜
Love this Thai food place, the food is very spot on and the service is great, friendly and solid. Several Vegan options, along with all your traditional Thai dishes.
Quality and quantity has been decreased. They also charged $1.50 extra for a very small quantity of extra rice which I understand could be the restaurant policy but it is not worth the price. There are many Thai restaurants in Herndon but I’m NOT COMING back here ever again.
Good quality, authentic Thai food.
Love this place. Great food, good prices. I always get the basil eggplant chicken and it's fantastic every time!
Get takeout here regularly. Always good food with good prices. My favorite is basil chicken and eggplant.
Consistently great, authentic, properly spicy Thai food. One of the best restaurants in the area by far. 10/10.
Very tasty food - we ordered Drunken Noodle, Thai Fried Rice, Crispy fried fish, Pad Thai and they were all very good. I will specially recommend Fried Fish and Drunken Noodle. Portions are large and one side could be enough for two less hungry people.
As a Marylander who hates traveling into VA anywhere past Tysons, La Ong in Herndon is ABSOLUTELY worth the drive. Hands down one of the best Thai restaurants in the DMV. The staff is incredible and provides service with a smile. The food quality and presentation is unlike any other Thai restaurant out there. For those questioning whether or not they should choose La Ong stop thinking and just GO!
Best Thai food in N.Va- crispy Pork belly and the Thai boat noodle soup are Official. If you live near this place you don’t know what your missing!
We used to come here all the time before the pandemic and we came here for the first time since then. It is a great place for amazing Thai food packed with flavor. Their restaurant is very nice looking and the atmosphere was nice. They have many classic Thai dishes to choose from with lunch, appetizer, side, and dessert options as well. Stop by for a nice sit down dinner if you get the chance!
This is one of my favorite little local places. The service is good and so is the food. My favorite dishes are the minced chicken basil, crispy chicken basil (but I get it with broccoli instead of bell peppers), and the garlic chicken. Their Tom Kha soup is also good. I get everything Thai hot, and they do actually make it quite spicy.
Always pleasant service and consistently good food.
We've been ordering takeout here for years. But tonight was my first time dining in. Awesome, friendly staff. Fantastic food (actually spicy!) Talented bartender. And very reasonable pricing. Will keep coming here again and again.
People raved about the drunken noodles in the reviews so I ordered shrimp drunken noodles. They are mediocre at best. The noodles are stuck together and have little flavor. Try My Thai Home Bistro’s drunken noodles instead— delicious, well balanced and flavorful.
The food is way too oily and salty.
Bad customer service. Mediocre place.
Pad Thai is jaw dropping. Only place for it in the DMV
It was very good. I loved the duck so much. It was so juicy and there sauce was top notch. The way the flavors blended was legendary. If you’re looking for somewhere to eat this should be in the discussion.
Only 2nd time I have been here but both meals have exceptional. Will most definitely be back.
4+ stars. Solid for takeout. 100% accuracy on our orders over multiple takeout visits, with efficient, pleasant service each time. Liked the spring roll and its accompanying optional sweet sauce. Liked the pad thai base; the beef component didn't impress me, but was all right and I would order the dish again but select a different protein option. I look forward to dining here in person soon; I saw a cute outdoor patio area.
Always wonderful Drunken Noodles and aka Nom Jeep.
All the 5 star reviews are legit. Not 1 weak dish on the menu.
Tried the pineapple fried rice. It is p great.
Excellent food. My family’s favorite Thai restaurant in the Vienna/Reston area. Writing this during the pandemic when I’ve had to take food home. It’s always remained hot after my 10 minute drive. Portions are generous. Taste is top tier.
This evening left a bad taste in my mouth. I ordered carryout at 5:15, was told it would be ready in 25 minutes, and upon arrival I was not helped out and sat around for 10 minutes without any interaction with the staff. I then called and explained the situation to the gentleman working and there was explanation or apology. I will not be going back due to the lack of customer service.
One of the best Thai places in the area! Their Moo Bing (pork skewers) tastes almost exactly like the skewers I had when I lived in Thailand, absolutely delicious. Highly recommend!
Delicious! Each of our dishes, from Satays to Panang curry was very good. Kind, helpful staff. Would definitely return.
This is one of my favorite Thai restaurants. The food here is consistently really good!
Get the drunken noodles. You will not be disappointed.
They have nice place to sit outside. We ordered chicken pad thai, chicken wings and shrimp soup. Everything was delicious and price was reasonable.
So I just opened my beef fried rice carryout and see they didn't pan fry the beef. They microwaved it. In addition to grey meat looking unappetizing, it loses the caramelized flavor from stove or temperature heat cooking & is very rubbery. Avoid this place cuz if they did that to my meal, they'll do it to yours.
Our favorite local carryout place and we are so thankful they have weathered the pandemic storm. Consistency is variable but always good—sometimes great. I like to customize our order, adding veggies to our curry and fried rice entrees and requesting the spiciness level kicked up.
Ordered take out last Sat evening. Dumplings appetizer and a meat entree. Got food poisoning bad Sunday. Dr said it almost assuredly came from what I ate Sat night. That was all I ate. It’s now Tuesday and still experiencing bad symptoms!
This was delicious! I will come back. And good, friendly service. Thanks!
BEST THAI AUTHENIC
Wonderfully flavorful food!
Amazing Thai Food! The best noodles and fried rice that I've ever tried! Plus the customer service was great! Must to return!
I love La Ong Thai Bistro's Chicken Kapow! It's amazing!!
Best Pad Thai I've ever had outside Thailand! The Kao Soi was excellent, too. Really, our whole order was delicious and thoughtfully put together for pickup. La Ong is my new go-to Thai restaurant!
We've gotten delivery from them a couple of times - great food! I recommend the dumplings.
