Traditional Thai eatery on a side street with dishes such as drunken noodles, curry & satay.
Pretty good food here. It's a great place if you want to try some interesting Thai food. There is a lot on the menu that I've never heard of before. Very clean table and condiments. Price vs. portion could use a little work, but then again, this is a college town. Also, there seemed to be one fairly new waiter taking care of everyone. Very nice service though.

The best place Thai place in town.
Flavors are delicious and offer a wide variety of dishes as well.
The also offer buckets for any drinks you may like!
Must Try:
• Drunken Noodles (got one level below Thai Hot)
• Basil Fried Rice (got one level below Thai Hot, I would get it Thai Hot if you like spice. This is good for ONE PERSON)
• Thai Iced Tea
• Tom Yum Soup (Appetizer Portion, got one level below Thai Hot)
We got the Crispy Porky mini sandwiches for an appetizer, which were crunchy and tasty and would be agreeable to less adventurous eaters, too. We ordered Massaman curry and a kind of beef noodle soup. The curry was amazing, so complex. Would recommend. The soup was mild and overall fairly pleasant, but I wouldn’t get it again. Thai tea was very sweet but yummy.
The interior of the restaurant was spacey but didn’t feel too big. Service was alright. Overall good vibes and good Thai food here.
I’m no expert in Viet-Thai food so i won’t be able to say much about the authenticity of the dishes. I ordered Pad-Thai without peanuts and with the Thai-hot hot sauce. i thought i was tapping into the true Thailandish culture by going spicy but it was too much to handle for my unseasoned american stomach.
the rest of my squad said they were happy with their food and their thai tea, which was very sweet.
our service was really good but was understaffed so they were a bit slow.
the interior atmosphere set a good enough mood.
We come here so often. This is one of the best places to eat in Blacksburg, hands down. I bring all of my family and guests to eat here and are consistently delighted each and every time with fresh, hot, delicious food! Pictured: Appetizers- fried tofu is served with the sweet chili sauce and Bangkok peanut dip, Tom Kha soup, drunken noodle, and mixed berry Bangkoktini. Their crispy pad Thai is also to die for! I would eat here every day if I could!
This place is not the same as before. Seems changed ownership and sank. The chicken is processed, McDonald's is better and I got sick a few hours after eating. The service is like a fast food joint, you order and pay at the counter. Just terrible experience all around not worth spending any money to eat here. I'll make the 40 min drive to Roanoke for good Thai Food instead of eating here.

Spicy noodle soup and Basil fried rice was really great. I had all Tai hot level, and It was pretty spicy. I highly recommend this restaurant.
the food here is ok. they have what you'd expect from an average thai restaurant. the thai iced tea here is the star which is what brings up the average to a 3 star. their thai iced tea is very good i would come back just for their tea
I really enjoyed it. Strongly recommended.
Your hours are wrong, Came on Monday at 630 and was closed. Tried calling both numbers prior
I’ve eaten here before and the food is good but I came in this evening with a group of 12 which was really 10 with two babies and the waitress was extremely rude. She said there was nowhere to seat us so a group of men saw that we didn’t have anywhere to eat. They stood and told us to sit there. She refused to give us the seating stating all of a sudden it was a 45 minute wait. She also claimed the bathroom was unavailable. My family came from Connecticut and was appalled by the utter disdain on the face of the waitress. My father was shocked at the treatment and questioned if this was 21st century Virginia or Alabama in the 1930’s.
They ARE open as of July 2023, food is aaaaamazing and the staff is very kind!
It’s a nice little family owned restaurant. The portions and prices were reasonable. The waitress was very nice and quick to get the food out. The food hit all the right places and the service was superb even though they were busy.
Excellent food. Perfectly cooked fried rice. “Thai heat” level was actually hot in the green curry, which tasted exquisite.
Portions might be a little on the smaller side, but then again, so are the portions in “fine dining” restaurants. Bottom line, this restaurant truly has high quality Thai flavors.
You should change your hours if you are going to close at 8:15
Great local Thai place. Food was really good. In and out fairly quick too.
Great food, good local small business.
Food is always tasty and meets my Thai cravings. Staff was helpful and quick.
While the food is pretty good, the owner always has her kid there. She’s the definition of an iPad kid. What bothers me was in the open restaurant, she has her iPad on FULL volume. No one wants to be in a restaurant listening to the sound of coco melon on full volume. I kindly asked her to have her daughter turn it down and the was visibly upset that I asked her that. She stared at me and just walked away. It left me so confused it was probably the rudest thing I’ve experienced. Social awareness.
We went in for lunch on a visit to VT with the family. We are all vegetarians and there was, as expected a lot of choice for vegetarians. The panang curry was served hot and delicious! The order took some time to come out. Wish it was faster but the food was great and I would love to visit again
I'm a picky eater if there every was one, but y'all, I would eat here every day.
The food is always fresh and delicious. Some things I've had that you've got to try:
Appetizers:
-Chicken Satay (SO tender and delicious)
-Spicy Chicken Wings (I don't do spicy, but these make my mouth water in the best way)
Main Course:
-Panang Curry (or any curry really. The literal best. Chef Kai never disappoints)
-Crispy Pad Thai (GET THIS. Seriously. Thank me later.)
Drinks:
-Any of the buckets. Perfect for 2 people to share, or to enjoy by yourself.
But seriously. If you have the opportunity to go here, please go. It's perfect for everything from just having some chill drinks, to having a nice sit down meal with friends/family.
The food is actually really good and the price is very reasonable. The staff is very rude and slow. She didn’t offer chopstick to my friend just because he was not asian. I was just disappointed with the service because the food was actually good. The soup is really refreshing and pad thai is very delicious.
I missed eating thai food and Blacksburg doesn’t have too many places. I’m pleasantly surprised and glad that I was able to find decent thai food within walking distance from campus. Get the Crispy Pad Thai! The fried wonton gives a nice crunch to the noodles!
I’ve been trying to find decent Asian food in Blacksburg and I finally found a decent place! The low reviews are due to takeout so for the best experience come dine in person! I ordered typical pad Thai and it was very delicious.
These guys are a small army making really yummy thai food! Note, this restaurant handles lots of take out and delivery orders so your experience may vary. But, in terms of authentic thai food this is the closest as it gets in Blacksburg. Wait times for the meal is around 15-20 min. Solid food!
The hostess/server was very rude and did not allow us to be seated with a service dog. She said no dogs and we would have to sit outside (in January). We explained about the dog but she still refused. A man from the kitchen came out and tried to explain to her it was illegal not to allow us but she apparently is afraid of dogs. He told her he would serve us. She continued to refuse and went into the back to talk to someone else. We chose to leave as I would not want to pay for horrible treatment or trust someone so angry to make/serve my food. I appreciate the man who tried to educate the other person.
One of the best drunken noodles and house fried rice! Thai curries are delicious too. Service is slow
employee on the register at night is really really rude!!
Although there was just one server, she did an excellent job keeping everyone happy. The cashew chicken was the best I've had at a restaurant.
They are short staffed, but those that are there working did a marvelous job serving our party and the food is delicious!

The owner (skinny girl) is very RUDE. Change your behavior to the drivers. Don’t be mean . Learn to respect others. Every time I go there you always looks mean.
Very tasty I love the pad see ew
Update: pad see ew can now only be ordered with beef 🫤. Still super good but it was better when you could get any meat. I will sadly have to change this to 4 stars from 5
. I love the Spicy Seafood platter and the Shrimp Fried Rice. The food portions are getting smaller and smaller. .
The food is so good here! It is clean and everything tasted really good. I think I have finally found my place for Thai food. The crispy roll was amazing and the red curry I ordered was also so good. I think now I don’t need to drive to Roanoke for Thai food. Please eat here so that we can support the owners!
We had an excellent take out meal with pork toast, spring rolls, pad Thai, drunken noodle and basil rice (all tofu). Hands above Cafe de Bangkok. Will be back.
Great experience, wonderful service, Great food and drinks. Shrimp fried basil rice and chicken wings were fabulous. A must try is the Ko phuket iced tea.
Delicious food! Excellent cocktails!
Awesome authentic Thai food! Very few Thai restaurants with the same level of actual Thai staff and flavors! Wonderful!
Ordered and paid online. After about 2 hours of not receiving the delivery. I called the restaurant.
The person that I spoke with denied that the order was ever placed and then insisted that I recount what I had ordered . and Then said that I had the wrong restaurant.
Funny that the charge showed up on my bankcard. but when I asked that the charge be canceled she said that they would NOT do that.
So I will have to cancel the paymenttheir through our bank and pay additional fees.
Though their food is delicious and rather expensive. I will Never order from them again.
Update: For some reason, the number that appeared when I tried to call was for the wrong restaurant.
The Beat Bangkok has reversed the fees which is good. However, I still believe that they did not perform well and had they notified me at either my phone or email ( both of which I had provided), this could have been avoided.
As I said in the review, their food is delicious. But this does not negate my frustration with trying to get our supper in a timely manner.
Love this place !! Ive had multiple great experiences with both takeout and dining in. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and friendly, welcoming staff. I have tried lots on the menu and have been delighted every single time. If you’re not sure what to try, I would absolutely recommend the pad Thai or the red curry!! You can also adjust the spice level to your liking which is great. Their Thai tea is also really good (I recommend it with coconut milk). As a picky eater who is hesitant to try new foods, I’m very happy I did here. This restaurant seems to be a hidden gem in Blacksburg !
Mid
The water was good… the reviews were right. Didn’t even get asked for my order. So slow
Tasty food
I love the food. It is always great however service and speed are not very good. The older lady who works there is rather unpleasant. Makes it seem like it's a chore to serve you. Even as far as purposely ignoring us when we were anything but demanding, just asking if we could eventually get a refill on water. The food came out one dish at a time with at least 5 minutes between each, even on appetizers. which makes no sense because you should be able to make two identical appetizers come out at the same time by making them both at once. I think I may order take out but I won't sit in anymore.

I am absolutely horrified by my experience at this restaurant today. I never thought I would be told by a restaurant owner (I presume) that I should assume "Asian restaurants will not be able to understand or read notes" and always to call. Or that the only reason my note was understood by one person was because "he is white". Let alone the general rudeness, the blanket statements and what honestly came off as racism was pretty shocking
I have a very severe gluten allergy and celiac disease. I specified this in notes when ordering online. Now, normally I would also call to ensure clarity regardless of the variety of restaurant, but I didn't this time. When I arrived I was informed cross contaminated food had been used. Though I appreciated their openness and willingness to remake the dish, i was very frustrated as I'd made those notes. I tried to ask, multiple times, if they read the notes or if those weren't actually used. The service person was incredibly dismissive, rolled her eyes at one point, and walked off without informing me that she would be back with me to discuss the issue. She was serving two tables as well, and I respect that. But clear and polite communication would have been nice. Being asked if I was "too frustrated to wait 5 minutes for your order" and being spoken down to was awful. Being told that one part of my order was okay because a "white guy" made it was horrifying.
I don't assume everyone speaks or reads English. I also don't assume restaurant workers from an entire continent DON'T speak or read English. Though the owner/worker was themselves Asian, their explanation of how I should handle and assume things for all future Asian restaurants i eat at was unacceptable.
I will not be supporting this establishment in any capacity and regret having prepaid a tip and for add ons that became the main dish. It's a shame because I love Thai food and supporting local businesses.
👍
Best Thai in Blacksburg
I’ve been delivering orders from this restaurant for about a month through an external service, and I have never waited so long, numerous times, for an order that should be cooked and ready in 15 minutes. The people behind the counter tell you “it’ll be ready in 10 minutes” regardless of how long it will actually take. On average I waited 30+ minutes IN EXCESS of when the order was supposed to be picked up. A waste of my time and money, this restaurant should be removed from delivery apps if it can’t handle the amount of orders it receives in a timely fashion.
Easily a favorite in this town. Service can take some time so plan ahead and be patient, it’s worth the wait!
We ate here last night using the convinient ordering online on their website. We ordered drunken noodles, pad thai, crispy pad thai, and an order of spring rolls. Our order was supposed to be ready at 7:45pm when I ordered at 7:05. It was not ready until 8:40pm. It took 2 hours for my order to be ready! I waited for my food inside and in past experience, when someone is waiting so long, the least you could do is offer water!
The crispy pad thai is interesting and lightly fried. The 2 spring rolls were typical, cheap spring rolls. I would not order these again, especially for over $4. The other food was good but I just can't bring myself to give it more than one star when I had to wait almost an hour beyond when it was supposed to be ready. I don't know why my order was so late but I didn't seem to be the only one who was waiting. BE WARNED.
I absolutely loathe giving 1 star reviews for resturants when I know how hard it is to have and operate a resturant. I hope this resturant can figure timing out, an important part of the resturant experience.
Worst ever! We waited 40min to get our two main dishes, there's literally only one cook working and it's Friday evening, in saw that with my bare eyes!!! Also the cashier was making disturbing noise with forks! Don't know what she's up to... Some Thai ceremony? But the food was good, if you like sweet and spicy.
Terrible service!
They take around 30 minutes for take out after the promised time!
Very aggravating to order take out and show up after the time it is supposed to be ready to have to wait over 20min.
This place is amazing. Been coming here for 5 years and will continue to go back whenever in Blacksburg. Service is slow because love takes time. Get a drink and appetizers kick back with some good friends.
Absolutely delicious and fresh.
Love love love this place! Always amazing every time we go.
Too sweet and far from what I had in Thailand
The food is excellent! It's not overly sweet and the flavors seem well balanced. New ownership and the service is much improved.
Really good food, and a nice atmosphere. Usually not too crowded, which is nice. I really like the crispy pad Thai and you can’t go wrong with an order of the spring rolls.
If you wanna eat something, just pray instead of coming here. It will be quicker than here. Also, the waiter is rude.
The waitress has an attitude and served people who came after us first and citing that we ordered appetizer and hence we will get the main order behind others. That's a lame excuse for their discriminatory practices. Will never go here for their bad attitude towards customers.
We went to this restaurant with high hopes for some nice off campus dining but were severely disappointed. We ordered the crispy pad thai, tom (not) yum soup, and panang curry. The pad thai was simply salt with a rancid smell and the chicken bland even with the third spice level. The tom yum soup was just water with uncooked vegetables and unseasoned chicken. The panang curry was sweet and spongey and not appealing. The service was also a disappointment with the food taking more than 40 minutes to come out and the restaurant starting to close before we had been served even after sitting for almost an hour. Do not recommend.
Food took over an hour to get to the table and it wasn't even hot. I used to be a regular for 2 years but disappointed how the service has been recently.
Fantastic Thai food!
Horrible service, the waiter thought he'd be slick and try to ask out my date in Chinese. He's lucky I don't speak Chinese, but she told me the next day after we left. I'll be coming back to talk to you little mouse! What kind of restaurant does this?
Seriously this is OMG Good Thai Food. There are four levels of spicy: Mild, Medium, Hot, and Thai Hot. Unless you were raised on spicy, stick with Hot or lower. This is spice with FLAVOR! I got soup (Tom Kha Kai - spicy coconut soup with chicken) with noodles and Pad See Ew (wide noodles) with chicken, and the soup is going in the fridge till later, because I am so full from the Pad See Ew. You can't put your fork down. Selection is on par with any LA Thai place that I've had, and I've had them all over LA. Food was fresh, and my head hasn't been this clear in months. Could not recommend more highly - this place is amazing.
We sampled four dishes and they were all fantastic and flavorful. Happy that Blacksburg now has great Thai food!
Kind service. Great but concise variety. Flavorful. Not too busy (that's good imo). Gotta try the Thai iced coffee.
So much better than it used to be! Our wishes for real Thai food in Blacksburg have finally been answered. For years this place was mediocre, but when we heard that new owners had taken over, we decided to try it again. Huge improvement!
This is my favorite Thai place in Blacksburg but the quality is quickly deteriorating. I usually get take out and I get it often and each time the portions are becoming smaller and it’s lacking flavor. I used to love the food but there needs to be a change for the better soon or I cannot justify to spend money here.
Whenever I first go to a Thai restaurant, I order the Pad Thai because it’s a good apples to apples comparison. I can say The Beat’s cuisine rivals the best Thai restaurants I’ve visited in bigger cities. Also there’s a nice shady spot for outdoor seating, and beer on tap. This is now my favorite restaurant in Blacksburg.
Mostly a thai place. They do it well! They have a few dishes from other asian countries but I'm not sure why.
Great customer service. Received a call about my order and allergies that was made through a 3rd party service. They were able to adjust things but wanted to make sure the wait was okay. Food was good, hot, and made to order.
Authentic Thai flavors. I love cashew nut stir fry.
One of my new favorites after they revamped the food and drink menus! Great service and tasty food 👍
Amazing food, beautiful table settings, dog friendly outdoors and friendly management. Overall six star restaurant in a five star world :)
I enjoyed meeting the new owners of Café de Bangkok. The taste of the food was different, and good. The noddles of my pad ki mao, however, were almost raw!! I don't know who made them since there were two people in the kitchen. Please cook your noodles!!! I fear to order any noodle dish there now.
Food ok, floor sticky.
The Crispy Pad Thai was amazing. They have a new menu and are open for lunch and dinner.
Food is excellent. We enjoyed the spring rolls and the cashew pork stir fry. Spice level "hot" was just what we expected. We had some trouble with getting the umbrella to stay put outdoors but we enjoyed it very much. The wait staff is attentive and friendly.
Wonderful family owned restaurant, serves great Thai food and is helpful and willing to work with people who have allergies!
Very slow service. I ordered a pickup order at 7.30 pm and I had to wait till 9 pm to pick it up. Terrible. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. After waiting for so long they asked us to cancel our order because they were “backed-up”. Wasted time and got no food.
I typically give a restaurant 3 visits before I make a review but I won't be ordering from here again. Wife and I ordered the Thai hot basil pork, veggie rolls, and pepper and garlic pork. Basil pork had good flavor but was a small portion and definitely not "Thai hot". Veggie rolls were soggy and bland but chili sauce was good although watery. Pepper and garlic pork might as well have been bland broth with chunky objects. Guess I expected better from actual Thai people, my bad.
I've come here a lot and I've really enjoyed the food. They also have fantastic specials! The only real downsides are that it can get very busy and that it can be expensive. Overall though, I very much recommend this place!
Loved the food. Tomyum noodle soup is awesome.
I came here for good Thai food, but we waited 90 minutes to no avail. We left without eating. They were extremely understaffed. Abhorrent service. Never coming back ever.
I bet the food is good, but what’s food if it never comes! We left after an hour and a half with no food, my family went to cookout instead. Terrible service.
Me and my family waited for an hour and a half with rude service, we left without eating. There were only 2 staff on board. Extremely dissatisfied.
Waited for an hour and a half with my family with no food so we left without eating; not even appetizers. Extremely understaffed, terrible experience.
Service was rude and food was not good, portion aas small
Amazing Thai Food! Really authentic flavors, flavorful curries with vivid colors, overall amazing food. Definite try for Thai cuisine in the Blacksburg area!
Great food and check out the daily specials
I’m no expert in Viet-Thai food so i won’t be able to say much about the authenticity of the dishes. No good service
Service was really slow. Food was pretty good but I've had much better.
Ordered pad thai with tofu for take out. Unfortunately, the noodles were dry and the tofu was burned on one side. Thai iced tea was great though. Have been here before and the food was decent... Just not this time.
I recommend to anyone who is scared to spread out their typical food choice. As I walked in, I was a little unsure of how the food would be. They were doing a good bit of business, they were a tad busy takeout wise, but I wasn’t sure about dine in service. I looked at the menu and was pleasantly surprised about the good survive even when they were busy. As someone who was brought in by a friend who loves Thai food and being someone who doesn’t like to go too far out food wise, I was a bit nervous. I ordered the Basil Fried Rice (Basil Wok) with Extra Tofu and the Gyoza Dumplings. The sauce with the Dumplings was fantastic and is actually what is served with their Panang Curry which is fantastic. The basil wok was fantastic and made me really fall in love with the flavors and care they put into their food. They care so much about what you want and they will do anything to make you enjoy your food and time there. I would recommend going there to anyone, even if you don’t like to expand your pallet out, and this is coming from someone who doesn’t even like ketchup on fries.
Their soupy curries are among my favorite foods in Blacksburg
Wonderful food, I have a good experience every time I visit. Was introduced to this place by a friend last year and I have continued coming back.
Excellent food and service. Will definitely go back!
Got take out and it took a while. When it got here food had no taste (pad thai) and I made my own sauce...
Excellent taste and good price!
Great food! A lot to choose from also. Nice quiet place downtown Blacksburg. Will definitely be going back many times! People working there were also great! Ok went back here and had to edit this review and just say it is even better than I first mentioned! Hands down some of the best food in the area! Can't say enough!
Extremely delicious rice and great vibes.
This place is always awesome food
I go here pretty often and the food is good, but I am always amazed at how sour and annoyed the owner/server always is. She makes me seriously consider not returning, but I like the food.
The service was so amazing. Our waitress was so kind! The cafe is so cute and the food was delicious!
Great food, one of the most leisurely spots in downtown Blacksburg!
The pad thai is delicious, and it is a good-sized portion. I usually get it for lunch, and the wait can be a little long, but that's because there is often only one person working and doing everything.
My favorite place to get thai food in Blacksburg! Always good.
ordered four meals to go - 2 pad Thai chicken (good) and 2 shrimp fried rice (both burnt and smelled that way too)- ended up splitting the pad Thai chicken between four people since too far to go back
i loved it.
We arrived at 5:00 and didn’t leave till 6:40 because of how terrible the service on the waitress and cook/manager (I assume) because she came out and greeted a table that came in 35 minutes after we have ordered. That table go their meal right after we spent 40 minutes waiting for our starters. The seafood I received was over cooked and tasted like rubber. I ordered an alcoholic beverage that server proceed to forget to brink me even tho there were only 2 tables dining in at the time. I would not recommend. I would recommend Thai This I’m Radford tho, great food, great prices, and great customer service regardless of what you look like.
Not sure what I ate but it wasn't Thai fried rice. Even after adding the spicy chilli there was no flavor. It was prepared in less than 5 Minutes.
Staff was great.
Excellent prices, excellent food - and great daily specials! Went here for the first time after moving to the area, and will certainly be back plenty of times to come for the drunken noodles!
This used to be one of my favorite restaurants but their continuous decline is undeniable. Sadly, the food is now mediocre on most visits. The service on my most recent visit was also painful. The server was very inattentive and seemed annoyed when concerns were raised about the food. I'd encourage you to consider other options (there is another good Thai joint in town). The second star is for when they used to be good. Here's hoping they can one day get back to their former glory.
Good Thai food. Several beers on tap (plus bottles). Friendly staff. Can't wait to go again.
Great drinks, curry, pho and noodles!! Everyone enjoyed themselves and we will be back!
Food was delicious, waitress exceptional. Clean restaurant, lovely decor
Don't bother. Better Thai food at better prices at south end of town. Pho was tiny bowl and quite insipid
Save the trip and go to Mekong instead. Long wait time even when it's dead, extremely unfamiliar waiting staff, didn't even know what sodas they had on tap. Just save your money and time, go to Mekong.
The basil fried rice is a regular favorite
The flavor of the food is great. The service is kind of slow, leave yourself plenty of time before you decide to dine in.
Sometimes the service is slow, but some of the staff show a passion for the food and it shows. This place is my favorite place in Blacksburg right now. The entrees are cooked very consistently so we can guarantee a meal is done right. I enjoy the Orangey Bangkok Chicken which has pineapple and cashews and the Thai Tea. Make sure to check the specials.
remember few month ago the Pad Thai taste ok. But today go there for lunch discount on Pad thai $6, but taste horribly. Only have couple of bites, could not stand anymore. End up go back campus for food. Don't know if it change the chef. Next time just go Café Mekong for pad thai.
Great authentic thai food
Great Thai cusine restaurant, bar and lounge that offers a tasteful selection of Thai Fare Favorites and other international dishes. The Singapore Noodle was awesome.
Had the perfect Pad Thai here.
Amazing food and the service is on point
Food and service were amazing!
Truly loved the Pik Kapow!!! Staff was friendly and atmosphere was homey.
The food and service are okay.
Food okay at best, multiple mistakes in a simple order, very long wait, service okay
We go here on almost every visit to Blacksburg - my son is a graduate student at VT and this is his favorite place in town! They have great Thai dishes and can serve any of them to your taste.
Fantastic food and drinks. I will definitely be going back!
