Family-owned eatery serving Thai favorites (curries, noodles, veggie fare & more) in bright digs.
It is good food and some creative dishes but some of the sauces seem a bit watered down. It was better a few years ago when I ate here once a month. I think the ownership change affected the recipes. It is a solid option though. Extensive menu and nice staff just short handed.
This place has a beautiful Asian-inspired ambiance. I got so excited meeting my niece that I forgot to take pictures of the food. However, everything we tried was delicious. The service left something to be desired. They didn't check on us, and we had to ask others to call our waiter.
Wonderful two lunch special for like $13 that has large selection for the "thai street food faddie" and barbecue chicken for someone that's not into the whole thai street food fad. Drunken noodles are really good too. The spring rolls are huge and stuffed with veggies and have a really flavorful sauce. Comes with salad that has a delicious dressing. Restaurant is clean with classy table settings. Service is always very attentive. It's been around a long time and is a reliable go-to for sit down thai. I just like going there because the staff is cool and the food is delicious. Lots of free parking, veggie options and outdoor seating.
A beautifully decorated place with relatively fast service! There is a parking spot next to the restaurant. We waited for a minute at the front because it was a little busy but got attended to shortly! Our waiters were friendly. Food was DELICIOUS we ordered the Pad Se Ewe noodles along with curry which came with rice and a side dish. Good experience, the tables were clean and the ambience of the place was very unique! Would recommend.
Came in on a Thursday afternoon around 12:30. Not too busy but took about 10 min to get a table. Service was good but not great. Same with food we got drunken noddles along with an order of orange chicken with rice. Food DID NOT live up to the hype around this place. I will say the Iced Thai tea was delicious!
Terrible experience at Sawadee tonight. Won’t be going back. I’ve been going here for close to 20 years. Food has slipped recently, tonight confirmed that. Some dishes fine, but a couple—the green papaya salad and the basil stir fry in particular—proved really disappointing. (We eat Thai food a lot, so we know what good versions of those dishes should taste like.) When we went to use a perfectly valid gift card, they took no less than 30 minutes to tell us they couldn’t honor it because of some problem in the system. Eventually I gave up, paid for the meal in full, and *then* they told me, moments later, that “Oh, we’re sorry. We just found it. You do have $50 credit on the gift card.” I asked them to just cancel the transaction and rerun it using the gift card and the manager refused because she didn’t want to incur the additional transaction fee. Apparently a few pennies is too much to pay to ensure that a loyal customer can use a perfectly valid gift card. Appallingly bad customer service. No thanks.
We walked in and got a table right away. The food was really good and fresh and they have huge portions. We got the spring rolls (not pictured, but comes with 6), then I got pork pad see ew, and mango sticky rice. Everything was really delicious and I’d definitely come back.
Been to top and most authentic Thai restaurants, this one feels very authentic too except it depends on what part of Thailand. Its definitely home style cooking to me. I normally try their version of Pad Thai and base on this you can tell if the place has a unique version than the ones I love the most. This one is one star below the one's Ive had. I know its very subjective, and then I tried their signature dish. I will say you have to try it for yourself and rate it based on your experience and expectations. This is purely my own review.
Great Thai food and excellent service.
Always my favorite Thai spot in SLC. Get the tempura or the curry or the shrimp rolls. DELISHH
Food was really great loved the fried rice and the portion size was decent.
Love this place. The food is so good. The service is very friendly. Will definitely come back.
Service was a little hit or miss but the food was great! Portion size was excellent
It is good food and some creative dishes but some of the sauces seem a bit watered down. It was better a few years ago when I ate here once a month. I think the ownership change affected the recipes. It is a solid option though. Extensive menu and nice staff just short handed.
They have great lunch specials where you can sample 2 of their dishes.
Great dinner, bustling with folks having fun, and they had a live trio playing/ singing. Great spot for a nice night out
Disappointed. We used to love this place but it’s gone downhill. Hostess was rude. The food wasn’t flavorful. We had to send our food back because these was no spice in the food.
4 of us went for dinner. We were seated quickly in spite of it being crowded on a Saturday evening. 3 of us ordered Pad Thai dishes, all of which were horrible. My noodles were under cooked and I even got a piece of wire in one of my bites! My brother had already sent his food back and didn’t want a replacement, just removed it from the bill. The waiter admitted they were short staffed that evening. We will not go back.
Probably the best thai food I've ever had. I highly recommend this place!
We have loved Sawadee. We have been regulars for years. The food since about 2021 has been different, as well as hit and miss. Last night unfortunately might have been the last attempt - the pork was fat filled, chewy, and cold. The pad thai noodles were very sticky/over-cooked. I miss the good ol days pre-2020.

This is one of our go to Thai places. Everything on the menu is delicious. Takeout is quick and easy as well.
Great food and excellent service!
Very friendly service and a quality atmosphere. We ordered panang chicken, thai basil beef, pad Thai, and tom kra and the soup was excellent, however the rest of The meal was somewhat bland. The issue was not that there wasn't enough heat, but just the overall flavor wasn't't enough.
Amazing food with large portions. Perfectly executed Thai that I would take a chance on the more difficult dishes. Fantastic food.
We’ve been going here for quite awhile and the food has never disappointed. Our favorites are the pad Thai, pad see ew, and the pumpkin curry! The night we went they were pretty busy so the service was slightly slower than normal but we love going here!
*edit! Not as good as it was when I first came here. Things have changed for sure. I loved ordering their pad Thai and now it’s a smaller portion and not as yummy. Kind of mushy *
Large portions which are shareable for two! Delicious yellow curry and Pad Thai!
Very nice, professional, and welcoming restaurant. Food tasted okay.
Our waiter is very nice. We will back again when we are in town
Massaman Lamb Shank was very tender and absolutely delicious!!!!
Yellow curry is really good
Good food.
Absolutely delicious food! The service was amazing and the atmosphere was too notch. Will definitely be going back soon!
Outstanding food and fantastic service! I went for a business lunch and was very pleased with everything about it. Lunch specials are a great value, and each dish was delicious. The service was prompt with refilling drinks and courteous at every phase. Will definitely be back.
This place has a beautiful Asian-inspired ambiance. I got so excited meeting my niece that I forgot to take pictures of the food. However, everything we tried was delicious. The service left something to be desired. They didn't check on us, and we had to ask others to call our waiter.
Friday night jazz created a lovely atmosphere. Food was good and service friendly. Our family would have appreciated a wine list.
I love the place and I love that it's gluten free, but the food is really generic. One of the best thai restaurants in Utah, but not good "Thai food"
I never been here but it looks very interesting by the images I found on google. I would like to try it one day but unfortunately I do not live in Utah.
This is my favorite Thai place in Salt Lake City! My favorite dish is the Khao Soi. I also love the curries and fried rice!
Amazing Thai food. Large portions and amazing flavors in everything we tried. Staff was friendly and attentive. Only negatives would be is was so dark we could barely see our food, and they seated us very close to other tables when there were many open tables in less crowded spaces of the restaurant. Overall amazing dinner!
The best Thai place in slc! And with big portions too for lots of left overs, we love Sawadee Thai!
My family was extremely impressed with the service and food this evening. The food was fresh and delicious. They don’t skimp on ingredients. The coconut soup is something to keep going back for. Try everything it’s all good.
Must go. The best Thai food in SLC. Authentic flavors, great ambiance, stunning decor, waiter was actually Thai, they make their own chili sauce and base. Will definitely go again!
Food smell great look great taste awesome.
Such a friendly and beautifully decorated restaurant. And the food is tops! I LOVE Thai food, and they do it well!
I got vegan drunken noodles with tofu and it was just what I wanted! YUM
Great experience, food was delicious !
Pad See Ew at Sawadee is super good, huge noodles and huge portions, would absolutely recommend. Salad rolls with peanut sauce were phenomenal
Food was excellent. Service was a bit slow but they were very nice. The atmosphere was very calm
Best mango sticky rice ever!!! Such good food overall, very cool atmosphere. Good vibes all around.
My friend and I went to lunch here two weeks in a row. We were disappointed both times and will not go back. I ordered stirfry and received a kind of hamburger soup. I thought there had been a mistake in the order so I brought it to the attention of the waiter. I was told that’s what they call stirfry. I started to eat it, but it was not good. It seemed like something left over from dinner that had been left in the pot overnight.

I review lots of Thai places. The spring rolls are basically a salad mix so I would recommend the potstickers— those were actually amazing.
Some food came out cold. The host was not wanting to "deal" with us and did not seem to like working there. The manager boon, however, was able to fix the cold dish.
This place is more on the American side, and less healthy, less flavorful. Skewer Thai is just down the street from here ;) this place is a little too pricey.
One of my favorite Utah restaurants. Tofu options are great.
food is good. Some dishes are little on the expensive side(small portion) but I definitely recommend this place.
Their pineapple fried rice has changed. It used to be the best in the state. Now it sucks. Tastes like crap. Very disappointed. Never coming back.
I love Sawadee. The service is very friendly and the wait staff are attentive and helpful. The food has always been tasty, authentic, and the portions are giant and appropriate for the prices. I recommend going with friends and splitting a few dishes. The red curry, basil chicken stir fry, and papaya salad are all epic and taste just like they serve in Thailand.
I 100% recommend eating at Sawadee and will 100% be going back again.
They have the best yellow curry!!
This place is discriminatory. I ate at Sawadee before with my mentor. Yesterday, I decided to go to Sawadee for dinner and this time I was alone. When I arrived the female host escorted me to the dinner room in the back where all the people were. She said "here" indicating a table, then she said "oh no here" indicating another table and then she kept looking at the entrance door and then she said "come this way" by this time everyone noticed that I was just standing in a room and she wasn't seating me. Then she brings me in the front area where NO ONE was and she said "I thought you were coming in with the other lady" (meaning my mentor). In my mind, I am thinking what difference does it make. I noticed her waiters in the meantime they were laughing. I then ended up selecting the table and she did not like where I was going to sit. I felt like a second class citizen who was not allowed to eat with the other people in the room. I ended up leaving and refused to eat there and told the waiter "I changed my mind" because I refused to be treated this way. I will never step foot there again and will report their discriminatory behavior. When you go to a restaurant you are the customer! You should not be forced to sit a a different table away from people!
Wonderful home cooked Thai food. Amazing service and food. Food came out quickly!
Best Thai food I have ever had! With good service, and at a reasonable price.
Delicious and excellent staff!
Very nice food. Great dinner
Food taste and portion sizes have drastically decreased. Customer service is ok. Used to be exceptional attention with the staff prior to the pandemic.
Great restaurant! Delicious food and great service.
Been coming here for years and haven’t been for about 6 months but something seems really off. The servers don’t dress as professional/clean and the take out container said “Schlotzkys”. Spring roll and tofu were not warm. They are selling some cheap tidbits near the register. It appears as it may be under new management or owners. I will look for a new spot, pretty disappointed .
The owner doesn’t treat employees well. I went to this place often when I was living near the temple square. Recently, I saw that someone who used to work there shared his horrible working experience at this restaurant in social media. Looks like the owner always uses dirty words to talk with his employees, such as f, b words. Maybe the food in this restaurant is good, and they found a great location to open. But this is not acceptable. Not going to support this business anymore. And there is not only one good Thai food in Salt Lake City.
Always good my whole family enjoys their great variety of dishes with favorites being yellow curry, drunken noodles, and steamed veggies with peanut sauce
We use to go to Sawadee all the time a decade ago and it was always so delicious. When recently my friend said she felt like Thai food I recommended we go to Sawadee. I can honestly say I think the food was better than I remembered. I'm so glad I came back. Such a great night, with good friends, great atmosphere, and tasty food. I definitely recommend.
I think this is the best Thai food I’ve had in SLC! Their red curry is perfect and not every Thai place serves pad kra pao (which is my go to Thai dish) and I’m so happy with the flavors!
Very tasty, great portion size for the price. Not as many options as most Thai places though.
Pad Thai and crab wontons are amazing!
Food is good, but I come for the live Jazz. So much fun.
Meh
The Yellow Curry is awesome and the Pad Kee Mao is my go to! Tom Kah Gai is also great if you're in the mood for soup.
The food was incredibly bland. Very limited drink menu. Bad service. I won't be eating here again.
Love the food, service, decor, and atmosphere. I found the prices moderately high, but it was worth it!
Unlike any Thai restaurant I’ve ever been. The question about how hot/spicy you want your food is omitted as is the spice. That this appeals to their audience is all you need to know about Utah. The land of bland.
I've tried many other Thai restaurants, and I've generally enjoyed them. However, this particular one did not suit my taste. The flavors and overall experience didn't meet my expectations compared to others I've visited.
Excellent food and great live music.
Some of the best Thai food anywhere, including our favorite places in other cities. Amazing flavors, great presentation, great service.
Their fruit smoothies are also something you should try.
Parking on the street and in a lot off to the side.
We walked in and got a table right away. The food was really good and fresh and they have huge portions. We got the spring rolls (not pictured, but comes with 6), then I got pork pad see ew, and mango sticky rice. Everything was really delicious and I’d definitely come back.
Great pad Thai, spring rolls and satay chicken. Really enjoyed the peanut sauce! Nice staff, just a bit of a wait to be seated and to get our order.
I'm never disappointed eating here.
I used to purchase from this restaurant often because it is close by. I was willing to overlook the amount of oil they used in their stir-frys but after ordering the same dish numerous times, randomly they served it with ground chicken instead of regular white meat strips. That was the last time I'll go. When you're paying $20+ for a stir fry, you should not be getting the cheapest quality item found at the distributor. I'll drive a bit to get decent quality food consistently.
Great service
Food was good, but nothing special.
Great food. Fast service. Beware that there are various types of spice you can order. Be brave and challenge your tolerance.
Ice tea shouldn't be a challenge. Everything else was wonderful. Including price!
Awesome food, a little short-handed.
The service was hands down the absolute WORST I've ever had. AWFUL & DREADFUL The food was amazing.
The atmosphere was great.
I'll order takeout, but i won't risk having the slowest and worst service I've ever had. Id name her, but she never told me, and had no name tag on. It was so bad. Just get take-out and DON'T waste you time.
Not great food! My sea food was like eating rubber and you could tell it had been sitting around for awhile. Which explains why the food came to the table so fast after ordering . Never going back
The eggplant stir fry with chicken and Thai basil is my current hyper fixation dish. I genuinely had not eaten here in a while and am again a loyal customer. Have already told my family and referred 3 people for this dish specifically.
Highly recommend.
Also have friends that really enjoy the Massman curry, Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles.
This place is amazing. Service is wonderful. The food is next to none. I highly recommend.
It's gotten busier over the years as people have discovered how great this place is, but the food stays consistently delicious and the environment is great for catching up with friends.
The Pad Thai here was very enjoyable, it has a unique flavor that I haven't tasted before in Pad Thai that made it a nice experience to eat. It didn't necessarily make this my favorite Pad Thai, but it was a high quality and was worth the price they set. If you are looking for a tasty Thai restaurant in this area, then give Sawadee a try!
Boy am I disappointed. We read the reviews about this place and had high expectations. We ordered garlic vegetables with beef. Temperature was lukewarm, the vegetables had no taste. This meal tasted like it came out of a can. There was just no flavor. Won’t be back.
We used to eat here many times. It used to be very nice place, great food and service. This time specifically service was not good. Many of the dishes on the Menu were not available. Lettuce wrap was extremely spicy although I have ordered mild. When I told to the server, he said it is not spicy. None of us in my family could finish it. No apologies. We asked extra peanut sauce for the to go dish we had. The server told us to pay the sauce otherwise he cannot provide.not coming back.
Parking here is an anxiety attack. “Pad Thai chicken and shrimp” came with one tiny shrimp, a few chicken squares and old noodles.
Will not be coming back.
sawadee has amazing thai food for the price!! we went for the lunch special and the portions were very generous- neither of us were able to finish our portions, although we wanted to because it was delicious!! for the both of us for lunch it came to 32$ which is a great price for a thai lunch outing. Definitely recommend!
Our server Tony was amazing!! The food was great and I LOVED the mango sticky rice!
Really great food amazing taste I can say best Thai food in slc
Specially drunken noodle , chicken fried rice and even every thing taste good but stir fry most amazing ❤️❤️
boo on whoever ranked this any less than 5 stars. my family has been going here for years and it’s our absolute favorite thai place in utah.
We’ve been to Sawadee before and loved it, but our experience last night was quite disappointing and a bit confusing. We ordered three different dishes, and one of them we couldn’t even eat because the fish sauce flavor was so overpowering. They brought a dish out to us then took it back a few minutes later saying it wasn’t done. They brought another dish out to us, and after we had scooped some onto our plates, they said it was for a different table, and they took it away and gave it to someone else. They then tried to bring food out to us multiple times that we had not ordered, even though we kept telling them we hadn’t ordered it. The flavor in our other dishes also lacked from the normal taste we’ve come to appreciate here. I’m not sure what was going on yesterday, but it definitely was drastically different from our previous experiences here. Hoping these oddities aren’t the new normal.
I was very impressed with Sawadee’s service, they got us in right when we walked in. The food came out faster than I expected and the portions really made the price more than worth it. The servicer was very attentive and while we were wrapping up there was a man on top of it, grabbing us to go sauces and extra utensils when we needed them. I’ve been searching for a favorite Thai restaurant in slc and I’m quite pleased with my experience! Highly recommended the tempura vegetables and Pad Thai.
Absolutely loved it.
Walked in and ordered some takeaway. The lady at the front was super lovely and they were quick. Huge portion, ate it over two days. Delicious
I've gotten takeout from here a few times and it was amazing. I finally had the chance to dine in and it did not disappoint. I knew the food was amazing already, but top it off with fantastic service and a great atmosphere and this place is hands down the best Thai restaurant in Salt Lake City. The lunch specials are a great deal the portions are very generous for the price and there are a lot of options. I got the Tom Kha Gai and green curry, which were amazing. And from bites of food from the rest of the group there wasn't one thing I didn't like. I definitely will be back for more, especially for lunch!
I absolutely love Sawadee Thai! It is my favorite restaurant and I recommend it to everyone
Gorgeous cuisine! Beautiful people serving us as usual!
I travel around the world and this the best Thai I’ve eaten in SLC.
We came from Dayton Ohio and this is what was recommended to us. We absolutely loved it.
They never serve you enough rice. Ever. If you want more you have to pay for it which seems silly considering the expense of the food already. But listen, the flavor of the food is worth it. Just stop chargingfor extra rice guys. And the service is consistently slow.
We love the food here. Comfortable spot to eat and to catch up. Servers have been warm and friendly.
Food tastes good. Wish they offered more heat options up front. Service is so friendly, and there is so much art on the walls, it's nearly a little museum.
Very attentive service, incredible food, and great atmosphere. Highly recommend!!
Food was amazing! Drunken noodles were some of the best I have ever had. Service was outstanding. You must eat here!
Very nice restaurant! The staff was extremely friendly and polite. The prices are fantastic and the food is amazing. Highly recommend the Panang Curry. Also recommend the Thai Tea. Large bowl of curry with bowl of rice, which is more than enough for one person. You could share if you wanted. The place was busy for lunchtime crowd. Always a great sign.
Great lunch specials every day. I always try Pad see ew. Flat noodles with pork. It was really good! Some places make it too dry or don't have an equal balance of broccoli and meat. Sawadee did a great job! I also like their lunch specials - choose two small dishes with rice. Lots of good choices! Good Thai place!
An hour and a half wait for mediocre food and horrible service.
Food is great.
Pleasant atmosphere.
A bit loud for private conversations at lunch, but still a really, really good place to be with friends.
