Specializing in Northern Thai Cuisine
A favorite Thai place of ours in Norman! We had friends try Thai food for the first time here and they loved it. My husband likes ordering the pad see ew with chicken at a level 2 and I like getting the Panang curry with tofu at a level 1. The curry is made with coconut milk, so it is perfect for someone who is dairy free. Be mindful of the spice level as a level 1 can still have a slight kick. The dishes are already naturally flavorful and if you’re looking for some heat, I suggest a 3 or 4. The spice is not at all painful but more of a favor amplifier if you like spice. I can’t handle spice, but I still thoroughly enjoyed my meal. Overall, if you’re looking to try some Thai food, this is the place to go. Staff is friendly and it’s such a cozy environment to enjoy some good Thai food as there are plenty of options on the menu!
Food/Taste/Flavor: 5/5 - Basil Fried Rice with beef (Kao-Pad Ga-Praw) and Red Curry with pork (Gang Deang). Very generous serving size and we are so happy that there's enough rice for the curry! Even at a 3 spicy (out of 5), there was quite a kick to the curry. The bell peppers were bright and a great compliment to the creamy curry. The fried rice was savory with a lovely strong taste of the basil and they provide a slice of lime that gives it a great acidity. The bell peppers were a bit overcooked, but still a great dish overall.
Service: 5/5 - friendly and quick service
Ambiance: n/a - ordered food to go.
Value for price: 5/5 - one of our favorite Thai places in quite a while. The food is absolutely delicious, generous portions, and such friendly service!
This place deserves much more than what it has now. Plenty of Thai restaurants in town, but I travel miles to come to this place. I tried the vegetable rolls which tastes absolutely yummy with the sweet chilli and peanut sauce. I also tried pineapple fried rice which was so good. Their quantity of food was so good that only their main course is more than enough. Not to forget, their quality of food was awesome too.
I'm speechless. This was DELICIOUS!! We even experienced one of their busiest times (dinner on Memorial Day Weekend) and the service and quality of food was STILL impeccable. We got the fresh rolls with shrimp and the tom kha with tofu for appetizers. We ordered the crying tiger steak and the vegetable pad Thai for our entrees. I could not believe how perfectly cooked the medium rare 🥩 was. The flavor of the pad Thai was 👌. Absolutely the best Thai food I've had. Will be back very soon.
Obviously frozen food, and overpriced but the service and ambience were fantastic. Unfortunate that the food is so lackluster.
Awesome pad thai, i come here every time i visit norman
Our family loves their delicious Thai food and good service. This is our go-to for take out dinner or lunch and they have a cozy and quiet atmosphere for dining in as well.
The crab angels are the best you'll ever have. The food is amazing. They are the best Thai in Oklahoma!!
The best in Norman!

Place is fantastic. I will be back.
Updated: food is always great, nicely served and plentiful. The Chicken Evil Jungle Curry is great.
Prior post from 7 years ago:
Very good food in a very nicely decorated restaurant. I had pot stickers as an appetizer and Chicken Jungle Curry with Rice. Very nicely plated.
A great lunch menu for quick lunchtime diners. Service was immediate and well paced. An extensive dinner menu.
Highly recommended
Best Fresh Rolls (Spring Rolls) ever. Good variety of very tasty dishes.
I only moved to OK recently. I have lived in Boston, LA, and Chicago and I am not even remotely kidding when I say this is the BEST Thai food I have EVER had in my ENTIRE LIFE. beautiful clean perfectly balanced sauces. This place is DIVINE!! ORDER NOW! the papaya salad is perfection, lettuce wraps FRESH!!!!! not over sauced at ALL SOOOO FLAVORFUL!! soup amazing OMG. heaven!!!!!
Excellent, our family ordered a variety to their taste, every dish was great. I'll be there again!! $$
Best Thai food I’ve had!!! Ordered Tom kha that was so good. Steamed dumplings with the best dipping sauce!! Told my husband I could bathe in it!!! Very prompt service and friendly!! We will be back!
Holy smokes! What a menu. Great varity and amazing flavor. Great Tum Yum soup.
I've tried just about every Thai curry in Norman, and this is my favorite evil jungle curry. Everything is great, the noodles are amazing too.
Our favorite Thai restaurant.
Absolutely love this place. Food is spot on 100% of the time and service is top-notch. Would definitely recommend!
I am new to Norman and trying to find some local favorites to return to again and again - I definitely found a favorite tonight. The summer rolls, coconut soup and green curry (picked my heat level) were presented beautifully and reminded me on some of my favorites in NYC. I will be back! Thank you!
We loveeee this place!
Tied with Thai Thai for best Thai food you can get in Norman. Curry here is great, and the orange chicken is a knockout. People here are very friendly and it's a cozy spot to sit, eat and chat for a while.
Always delicious. I have been to Northern Thailand and lived there for a few years. So when I say their food is legit and delish take my word. I'm always going to come back. I would also recommend one of my favorites: Khao Soi Gai-chicken, egg noodles, sweet and spicy curry a bit on the buttery side and all the proper included ingredients.
I was literally the only person in the restaurant and the goth teenager girl that was serving me was apparently sick. She wasn’t nice at all let alone had any interest in customer service. I don’t know if the health department would like that they let sick people serve customers with no mask or anything and uninterested in treating someone with kindness on top of that.
Authentic Thailand cuisine.
Great find in Norman :) Love Thai food and have been trying to find something a little closer to home ❤️
Lovely service but the food is mediocre, went for lunch and ordered the chef special chicken salad, supposed to be a marinated chicken breast on a bed of cucumber salad. I was excited, but I got a seasoned, not marinated, inside was barely cooked and tough, on a bit of cheap salad mix n carrot strings... for 15$ not very impressed
So good and the service was even better! We shall return….
Literally the best Thai Food Restaurant in all of Norman, Moore, and OKC, that I have found. Most authentic, and I've eaten thai in many other places around the US. The only other place as good is in Waikiki Hawaii..missed it until I found this place!!!
My favorite!!!
Friendly people, great tasting food, a very laid back atmosphere
I was totally impressed with this restaurant as it was my first visit. The food was Amazing!!
I highly recommend that you try this restaurant out.
This is the best Thai restaurant in Norman. My wife and I have been eating here for years and the staff are great, the restaurant itself is nice, and the food is delicious.
I usually get Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, or Basil Fried Rice.
Large portions and friendly people. Clean and quick.
CONSISTENTLY the best Thai in Norman. They simply do not miss.
The food was very good, service was only adequate,
Sat by the front door didn't
see restaurant. $$+, might give it 1 more try

I had not had Thai food in a long time. It was very tasty and reasonably priced.
Best Thai food around!!! The "Tom Kha" I think is the name of the soup, it's the coconut milk base soup and it's outstanding!
I normally don’t leave reviews but I had to. I appreciated the fact that when I asked for my food to be as spicy as possible they gave me just that!
Usually when I ask places to make it extremely spicy they still give me a watered down version of spice.
Will be returning. Umami and spiciness was top tier!!
Gave Thawan Thai a try when my go-to Thai place in Norman was closed, and now I have *two* go-to Thai places! Thawan has a large selection of curries and stir-fry. So far, my partner and I have tried the fresh spring rolls, Pad Thai, Pad Kra-Prow (basil stir-fry), and Tom Jued (vegetable & pork soup). The portion sizes are generous and I've yet to have something I didn't like, though I found myself adding extra spice and fish sauce at home. Overall a solid spot in Norman for quick Thai favorites!
Authentic AND delicious
The green curry here is exceptional, I highly recommend giving it a try. I'm looking forward to trying their other curry variations soon.
This is my new favorite Thai spot in Norman! Dinner was amazing this late evening. My husband and I stopped in and thought it was so cute inside! The restaurant is so cozy and everyone made you feel so welcomed. The service was amazing. The food was amazing. I had the evil jungle curry and Thai tea. I would highly recommend this restaurant and can’t wait to come back.
Food was great, my husband had a salad and i had a noodle soup with chicken.
I've been here a few times over the years. The food is delicious and the staff is nice. I really like the massaman curry and the Thai beef jerky appetizer.
They don't honor their hours.
I feel bad leaving this review, but I drove so far to come here. They shut the door as I was walking to the door and didn't come back to acknowledge my presence for a while and I think that's not fair. The lady who came to the door then told me that they were short-handed and her staff left early.
Staff could not explain foods… no soy sauce on table - only friendly when coming in and leaving. Staff eating in dining room while guests needing attention!
Had a great experience with my wife here. The food and vibes were perfect.
By far the best Thai food around. The green curry fried rice is phenomenal.
Good pad Thai and spicy noodle
Love this place!
My first experience with Thai food and everything I tried was incredible. Some of the best food I've ever had.
Great Thai restaurant. Owner and staff are super friendly. Large Portion dishes. Beef Jerky is my favorite appetizer. Basil eggplant dish is a must.
I love ordering online takeout from here. They have a huge menu selection. I love getting fried dumplings. I've also tried the fried rice and it was amazing as well. They always are nice and have my order some so fast! The inside of the restaurant is cute but I wouldn't consider it for a nice date.
Can’t put into words, how grateful I am to Lance, and Mercedes Benz of Okc.
Saved me, $5300. Thank you all so very much!
Great tasting food, decent atmosphere, reasonably priced.
Food is always good. Their massaman curry is the best I have tasted, definitely going for more in the future. Also love their egg rolls .
Personally curry is not kind of my choice but after I tried Masaman in Thawan. It's changed my mind. I cant beleive that it's now my favorite menu. I've been all around norman for Massaman but Thawan is the best and unique. No doubt it must be a good recipe for other menu also.
Excellent Thai food! I ordered the lunch green curry with chicken--Thai Hot and it was amazing! This was my 3rd time eating here and the consistency is amazing! I come when I visit my college kids or I would've come more often to eat here! LOVE it! Very aromatic and very flavorful!
Best Thai food in Norman, will never cheat on them with any other Thai place! Love the spicy evil jungle curry with tofu and the fried pork spring rolls, the pad see ew noodles with egg are great as well! It's quite a nice establishment to eat in, has lovely wait staff, and a relaxed vibe.
The food was great.
I'm speechless. This was DELICIOUS!! We even experienced one of their busiest times (dinner on Memorial Day Weekend) and the service and quality of food was STILL impeccable. Wow! What a wonderful place to get some thai food. We had a large part of 12 that they easily accommodated, the best item in our opinion was the crispy duck, but everything we received was amazing! We also had the tom yum, lamb, catfish, calamari, egg plant..etc i really liked the brown rice mix ....it was all amazing. We are visiting from Texas but look forward to coming back next time we are in Norman. Thanks for the great service and fresh food 🙌😋
Have dined there many times. Never disappointed. Reasonable prices. Significant portions.
Best Thai fried rice I've ever tried!
Delicious food and never disappoints.
Looks like MANY people have got the good reviews covered. But, I'm adding mine too. Mine counts more though, because I'm not just a 'foodie', but a Thai food connoisseur, to some extent. I love Thai food and have eaten at over 50 places in several states. This place is top 2, tied for first with another in Denver area. Good flavors, good portions, including veggies and meat. MANY other places don't give enough of either. My testing meal always is Green Curry. I measure places on that first. Today mine was SO GOOD!! I will absolutely be back many times.
We love Thawan! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Such fresh and flavorful food. I love it every time. We took 5 people aged 10, 13, 16, 20 and 40+. Everyone said it was so delicious. The appetizers were a huge hit.
Good Pad Thai!
Got the Tom-yum soup along with the spring rolls and a stir fry cashew dish. Everything was delicious. Spring rolls were the winner of the show though.
Best Thai food in town. Still great dining.
It was great! I will be back again.. thank youuuuu..
Absolutely delicious!
Excellent food. Excellent service
I had never even had Thai food before I tried this restaurant, but they really have me hooked. Excellent flavor!
Delicious! Will be back!
I've only ever picked up food here but I love it! I really enjoy the thai dumpling and crab Rangoons. I love their Tom Kha. I've been to a few Thai places, this I
One is my favorite.
The food is always amazing, and the service is great unless they really busy, and then it can lag a little. But bring good friends for good conversation and you won't be disappointed!
I have tried several different Thai restaurants in Norman and always come back to Thawan Thai the pad Thai is delicious and the serving size is huge. I also enjoy the Massaman Curry with chicken. The spice options are kind of tricky I'm not much on spicy so beware the 1 or 2 level is plenty hot for me 3 or above you will be sweating and asking for additional rice. Lol
Terrible food
Hands down the best most authentic Thai food in town. The atmosphere is lovely, take out is always on time, and everyone there is so friendly. My favorites are the curries, and they are very good with allergy restrictions. 10/10
Quick, polite, attentive service and absolutely delicious food!!
One of my favorite places to eat at. Highly recommend the tempura shrimp, lettuce wraps, pot stickers and just about any of the stir fries.
The food was Delicious, impeccable, attention to detail and presentation. Servers were there ready and waiting.
Excellent, don’t go above 3 in heat unless you know you can. Soooooo good
"Hole-in-wall" is not complimentary in anyway to decribe Thawan. More like "hidden gem" or "pearl of great price" is much more suitable. Try it as soon as you can. And the steamed vegetable pot stickers!
Service was great but I ordered the chicken pad thai with spicy level 1 but I think the put 5 😔I couldn't finish eating it 🥵
Stopped in for lunch and had the best Pad Thai I’ve ever tasted! Cozy ambiance. Such a great experience. Looking forward to trying more dishes here!
Great Thai food!
Delicious food and good service. Highly recommend.
This place deserves much more than what it has now. Plenty of Thai restaurants in town, but I travel miles to come to this place. Excellent food great service at reasonable price.
One of the best Thai places in Norman!
The Salmon Panang is literally to die for. The salmon filet is a large portion, cooked to perfection, and the curry is simply delicious. The white rice comes in a heart shape too :)
I also get the chicken Pad Thai, both spicy level III, the spice level is perfect!
I am a travel RN and ALWAYS make this place a must stop when I’m home. 10/10 recommend and can’t wait until I’m back again for more!
A little pricey but excellent food
Absolutely the best Thai food I ever had! It's a small restaurant in a short strip of stores in a shopping area, but don't let that concern you. Check out the menu, a lot to choose from. I was here in Norman for 3weeks for schooling and found out about this place during my last week. I ate hear twice in 3 days. It will take a couple more visits to try close to what I'd like too. The Tom yum soup is spot on. Try the Tom kha for a special treat, coconut based soup. The basil lamb was great. The appetizers are great as well. The lettuce wraps are a meal in itself! The owners/ servers are beautiful people as well!
My sister and I wanted to try something new for lunch. Gave this place a try and so glad we did. Nice atmosphere and pleasant service. The lunch specials we ordered were fresh, hot and full of flavor. The pot stickers and spring rolls were very good. We will return.
Charged more than what is listed on the menu. Said they "haven't had time to update the menu"
I’m not sure how anyone could stand to eat in this place. I went in to pick up an order and it smelled disgusting. I almost threw up just walking a couple feet into the restaurant. NASTY! Wouldn’t be surprised if they had rotten meat just sitting on their counters in the kitchen.
Tasty and good portions 👍
We love this place! The food is always fresh and spiced to perfection. They have a wide variety of dishes and I hope to try them all before my time on earth is over. I am a huge fan of the Koa Soi, the Yakisobu Noodles, and the Pad See Ew. They also have a nice Asian beer selection to cool me off after all the spicy food. The staff is friendly and the prices are reasonable.
Best Thai food in Norman!
Hands down my favorite Thai restaurant in Norman!
Muy bien
I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. They have some of the highest quality Thai food I have ever had. The staff is incredibly courteous and attentive and the atmosphere is cozy. I would not hesitate to recommend!
Food is great. Usually fast service.
Great spot. Food and service was great!
Best Thai in my opinion. Always had quick and phenomenal service.
Locally owned great consistently good!
Food was amazing probably could of gone level 4 for the heat but their level 3 has a good heat to where it makes your mouth tingle just a little bit but still great.. You can tell the need some help because it took a little longer for service but it was one lady handling the tables, pickup orders, call in orders, and cashing everyone out.
Higher quality Thai food - clean restaurant, great staff.
I eat a lot of Thai and this is one of the very best places. Food, staff, and the place itself is nice. 5 stars all around! I recommend the beef salad with high spicy level.
The cookery is what makes this restaurant completely outstanding. Top 5% easily. The vegetables are all cooked to absolute perfection even ones needing different cooking times in the same dish. The meat is perfectly tender. Some real talent in this kitchen. The flavor is excellent. All of the ingredients were perfectly fresh. Looks like a small hole-in-the-wall, but they do very good with what they have when it comes to the decor. The price was also extremely fair for the portion and the quality.
Have lived here less than a year and hadn’t really found a Thai food place that tasted like back home. Thawan changed that last night and will be my go to the rest of the time I live here. The Pad Thai and Fresh Rolls were amazing and I couldn’t get enough of the peanut sauce. Can’t wait to order again. I ordered online and the process was easy. Take out was ready in no time at all.
Very good selections
Extremely rude semi literate employees.
Been 2 times and food was great both times.
Great food. Eat here often
Much better then I expected when I walked in . Service and food was choice . 5 stars by all means .
Great food portions are filling
One of my favorite Thai restaurants in Norman and there are several good ones.
Outstanding Thai restaurant and food, couldn’t be more pleased with the menu, staff and cleanliness of the establishment. Wife and I wanted a Spicy Thai Basil ground pork with jasmine rice (we eat overseas) but didn’t see on menu so I was telling the lady what we wanted and what was in it. It was spicy basil Thai chicken with vegetables as white rice, very very good with nice taste of flavors. Definitely recommend this place kap khob khun
Wonderful, small restaurant with delicious food. Really friendly people run this restaurant, and I highly recommend any dish on their menu. (Mainly the pineapple red curry)
This is an excellent Thai restaurant. The food is outstanding and the service is the same. I ordered two dishes, one was a spicy flat noodle dish and the other was a garlic stir-fry, both dishes had amazing flavor. The staff do not let my water or tea ever go empty. They gave me the choice of white or brown rice, which rarely happens in restaurants but was an added bonus. I highly recommend this restaurant, it’s the best Thai food I have had in Norman.
You won't go wrong eating here, very good food
My wife and I have eaten Thai all over the world. Literally thousands of Thai places... this is the best. Now warning! Start at 2 if you love heat. The aromas, flavors, colors and warmth are glorious. This is really a 10....but they only give us 5 to rate with. Thank you so much!
I don’t care about food or min you walk in they tell you they closing in one hour . So we came at 8:30 and they start telling me they close kitchen in at 9:30pm, we’ll good for you but we here to eat not to rush if you don’t want people in your restaurant after 8 or 9 pm just shut the door and say take out order only and on google it says open till 10pm
Great food and service
Always delicious and the amazing service. A little pricey compared to the other Thai restaurants in the area.
Wanted to try it after seeing so many reviews. And the reviews are so right. I ordered Kao-Pad chicken fried rice and it's so yummm. It's my new go to place for Thai food now. How did I miss it for so long. The quantity is generous and the food is so flavorful. This was an online order I wish it were a little spicy. Nevertheless it was the best thai fried rice I had in Norman so far.
