I had a pleasant dining experience at Bangkok Chinatown Cuisine. The food was good, though it leaned more towards a fusion style rather than traditional Thai flavors. Despite this, the dishes were well-prepared and satisfying.
What stood out most was the friendly and attentive staff who made sure we were comfortable and well taken care of throughout our meal. The warm service added a lot to the overall experience.
We heard this place was good, so we had to check it out for ourselves. We enjoyed every bite! I thought the spring rolls were the best in the area: crisp, fresh, lightly peppery. I had the shrimp pineapple fried rice and it was yummy. I didn’t ask for it to be spicy, and it was very gently flavored so I asked for chili oil and that really heated things up nicely. My partner got the chicken pad Thai and he said it was delicious! Our favorite though was the tom kha soup. We got it with veggies and tofu and wow! It was loaded with fresh veggies! So delicious!
We’ll be back often!
I’ve been on a foodie tour through Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor since moving here from Saint Paul where the largest Hmong and Thai communities spoiled me with authentic specialties. Tonight I stumbled upon this quaint and beautiful restaurant where the service, ambiance and taste has me wishing I had another stomach and many more friends! The Tom Yum soup was the best I have ever had with a perfect level of spice. They even beat out my previous favorite from Los Angeles. The spices on the fried chicken were deliciously interesting with depth of flavor arguing against dipping in the accompanying sauce but then these flavors together… muah! Then there’s the pillow-like crab Rangoon that is more crab than anything else… uhm, yes thank you!!!! And let me tell you about the tamarind shrimp… butterflied with the head and tail on with this perfectly sweet and savory sauce - a must try off the specialty menu. Pair these amazing treats with Thai tea or Thai coffee and finish with the mango sticky rice. Oh, yeah! I wish I could give 10 starts. This place is a must for anyone who enjoys Thai food!!
Chicken satay was dried out and flavorless. Pitiful portion for the price. Spring roll portion was better but still a disappointment. The tofu seems like it was boiled. Definitely was not seared or pan fried before going in the roll and that was unseasoned too . Presentation was nice, the sauces are good. But not good enough to cover up the lack of flavor in my actual food. Maybe dining in is a better experience, but for takeout, definitely not impressed.
My wife and I went to Bangkok Chinatown Cuisine for lunch and had a wonderful experience. We were warmly greeted by the owner, who personally escorted us to our table. The restaurant has a charming ambiance, and the recent renovation from the previous spot, Lai Lai, has really elevated the space with a more sophisticated and classy vibe.
The owner kindly suggested a few dishes, and I decided to try the green curry with pork. The portion was generous, and the flavors were rich and vibrant. I ordered it mild, but it still had a pleasant little kick to it. My wife opted for the Pad Thai Curry, which she also enjoyed.
The owner’s hospitality added to the pleasant atmosphere, making it an even more enjoyable meal.
I will definitely return to try more dishes from their menu.
The food was very flavorful! The interior design was great, providing a clean and formal environment. The only downside was the wait. There were limited staff serving the tables, so we didn't place an order until 15 minutes after taking our seats.
New owner, new look, very welcoming.
Amazing food, had the red curry with chicken, did not disappoint. Authentic flavor all around.
Wonton soup was above average. Full of veggies, made fresh. I had a small and it was more than enough.
Crab Rangoon, always a good start.
Would definitely give it a shot!
Got Tom Yum Soup, Kick Chicken and Fried Fish Cakes. The cakes were surprisingly my favorite. It's good enough without the sauce but the sauce adds a sweet and sourness if you want to mask the fish cake. The chicken was truly lightly breaded. It is white meat which I should have expected. I thought the soup and chicken were both solid. We had good service too!
The owner was very friendly and accommodating for my dietary restrictions. The food was excellent; I will definitely be back soon!

Had dinner last night and everything was exceptional. Surprisingly, we were the only ones in the restaurant for dinner, so I'm guessing not many people are aware this is a sit down restaurant. One dish was more delicious than the next!
Wow , great dishes served by a friendly attentive staff. I will be back and comment on my next meal. Sits in a strip mall with a wide range of restaurants by the movie theater.
Went back for my fourth time for dinner and another awesome experience! I have had lunch, dinner, and carryout and never disappointed. Super Thai influenced dishes. This is not the old Chinese restaurant that was on the spot. Old reviews from that place still mess with this new business. Great place for dinner before a movie. You won't be disappointed!
I can easily share you will not be disappointed with this sweet little place that exudes great service food atmosphere and super vibe
This place makes healthy and delicious Thai and chinese food. My favorite is their tom yum soup and fried chicken. ❤️❤️❤️
Great food and great people

Over $75 for lunch. First and last time dining there. Too expensive
After an hour they canceled our order. I’m glad they’re busier than expected, but cancel orders right away, not after waiting for an hour.
Had some very delicious Curry Pad Thai, which was some of the best Pad Thai I've had in recent memory. Super friendly staff, lovely atmosphere. All around a great experience!
If I could give it zero stars, I would. They're newly opened. I went in around 4 pm. and was the only customer. I ordered a spring roll, which was wrapped in a rubbery semi-clear substance that I assumed was rice noodle. It was sticky and tough. There was so much raw cilantro in it that there was very little else. Just tiny bits of chicken. My main order was described as a stir fry chicken and broccoli. It came in a dinner plate that was swimming in grease. The broccoli was so tough I had to ask for a knife, but I still couldn't cut through it. The chicken had been deep fried and must've been in a freezer for a long time before it was cooked. The breading was heavy with oil, but what tiny amount of chicken there was inside the breading was dry and looked like little strings of wood. Totally inedible. It took nearly 30 min to get this meal. The waitress was very apologetic and offered to replace it, but I declined. Avoid this place if you're looking for good Thai or Chinese food. The worst food I've ever had.
New owner, new look, very welcoming.

Three of us had the best lunch I’ve had at a Thai restaurant in the Ann Arbor area in years. The Pad See Eiw had an excellent char on the noodles and the chicken was high quality. I highly recommend.
Stopped off for some good Thai food and I got it. The massaman was perfect spicy and taste, fresh spring rolls were great. Parents had pad Thai with tofu (dad liked the tofu, mom didn't). I have made a lot of trips to Thailand and this has been the closest to Thai flavor I've found. So happy that they opened near by.

Delicious food! Tried this out with family on a whim and they are now our favorite Thai place. Highly recommend
Delicious, fresh, authentic, this is our new go to for Asian cuisine. The Thai fried rice was wonderful! Green curry delightful, the best crab Rangoon in a long time, light, and you can taste the crab!
We have been anxiously waiting to try this new place and we finally got the chance yesterday! Nice, calm, romantic atmosphere, excellent service, and delicious food! You can’t go wrong! We will be back!

The hot pot was unexpectly good
Place need to be cleaned, food came out with dirt on it from not probably being cleaned. Dish was not as described
The place was empty, Xmas decorations out in April and 10 cameras watching every angle, bite, drink n conversation in the dining room.
Almond chicken was overcooked so bad the outter edge was not edible. the cheese crab aka crab Rangoon was the best I've ever had.
The fried rice left a huge amount of room to be actually desired. It's usually what sets Chinese restaurants apart and it was dry, no color, no taste and nothing but brown minute rice unfortunately.
Our server was absolutely great, the dishes did come a little quick, ive cooked in a number of resteraunts low and high end so when I had no clean edges around my plate and gravy dripped all over its separate bowl I was a little disappointed In the presentation of the dish.
Nice food
If you Love chinese food Lai Lai is the place. It is back dated in the 80s maybe BUT the service is Awesome, kind, the food is Amazing and not over priced
I went here because the menu looked great, however, the experience was very disappointing. The worker kept stereotyping and telling me “this is what Americans eat, you don’t want to eat this because it has bones. It’s for Asians”. He has no idea where I’ve been and what I eat. Very rude and disrespectful. And the water tastes disgusting
Good food at a decent price.
Excellent fried tofu with veggies. Simple food for working folks.
Delicious hot, well-made Chinese food. Bn coming here forever.
Not fancy. Just great food!
Very good service and food. Thank you!
Good food and customer service.
Really a hidden gem of a place. Beautiful and relaxed inside, good service, good food.
This is one of the best Chinese restaurants I have ever been to. Please everyone give this restaurant a chance. Their chicken fried rice is delicious. And on top of that it’s a big quantity it really fills you up. They have so much good food here if we can all get together and help this restaurant, that would be amazing.
Very Polite, Delicious Food. I’ve lived in Ypsilanti 20 years and there’s a chinese restaurant in every corner of town, but LaiLai by far has the best tasting food as well as the most unique restaurant location and design. Who would go to “King Shing” or “Lucky 7” when you have LaiLai. If LaiLai is open and you’re eating at any other chinese restaurant, you’re at the wrong place.
My favorite general tso chicken spot. You have to give it a try. Sometimes the takeout portions vary in portions though. But other than that my favorite local place. Their rice is also really good.
Nice atmosphere & good food
I've been going here since it opened and the food had been on a steady decline in taste, ingredients, and quality. I used to eat takeout from there once a week, it's changed management multiple times and each time the dishes are a little different and worse. When they used to serve shrimp balls they were for some reason soggy and so much smaller than they used to be, the fried spicy squid portion is tiny, the Singapore noodles are slightly spicy now and nowhere near as flavorful as they used to be. I had their general tso's chicken takeout a couple months ago and it gave me and my dad an upset stomach. My parents are friends with people who work there and chat with them sometimes and found out they had a power outage for a few days and didn't throw away the chicken in there but instead used them. We no longer get takeout from there anymore.
This place is having a tough time staying in business, and the food quality of the "traditional" Chinese part of the menus is suffering. If you like Chinese-American food, this is a great takeout place.
Their service was excellent. We ordered takeout and it was ready when we got there, hot and waiting. But, the food was nothing special. The cashew chicken was good, but the crab Rangoon just tasted like cream cheese wontons, little to no crab.
We stopped by on a Sunday, it was dead & peaceful. The food was good. Took off one star for slight language barrier that resulted in the wrong food for one of us.
I'd definitely give it another try when I'm in town.
Wasn't busy when we went. Food was great!
Great food. I carried out.
It was my first time there and everything was delicious 😋. Can't wait to go back again 😄
Great service ,great food
Re-open for business! We dined in and the food was well prepared with the freshest vegetables I've ever eaten! Good job guys!
Love the food and the servers. Very relaxing place to eat.
Food is super good! Customer service is awesome! No complaints...I'm a regular now!
Lai Lai is solid "americanized" chinese food. Is it the *BEST* chinese food I've had in my life? No. But for the $$ it's always prepared well and meets my expectation for carry-out chinese. If you're the kind of person that chooses between almond chicken, sweet and sour chicken, and general tsos chicken, this is your place. They also get props for having a non-garbage ordering website.
Good prices, classic american-chinese food
I’m not sure if it’s Lai Lai or every Chinese place. This place is just like every other place. Normally disappointing. It’s too bad, it used to be so much better. Must have changed ownership.
I hadn't been to Lai Lai since COVID. Especially since they are only offering take out, but I planned ahead and was excited to feast on some good Chinese food. I ordered gai lan (Chinese broccoli) with oyster sauce, walnut shrimp, and ma po tofu When I got home and opened my order, I was very disappointed! My "Chinese broccoli" was regular floret broccoli and was practically flavorless which I paid $10 for?! Not only was my gai lan incorrect, but my walnut shrimp was made with an Americanized white sauce with vegetables (baby corm, carrots, etc.) On a more positive note, my ma po was fair in preparation and flavor Part of me wants to say, maybe they ran out of ingredients (supply shortages) or maybe they changed their menu since my last visit? But a big part of me wants to say that I was unfairly profiled as Caucasian. This has happened to me at two other locations in Ann Arbor! I am bi-racial (Chinese and Caucasian) and to most people I don't "look" Asian. Granted, one other time that this happened I was also wearing my face mask. But, it is still unfair to judge someone ordering and automatically say, I'll serve them traditional or I will serve them Americanized right? I'm just disappointed that one my go to spots can't accept me as one of their own and serve me something less because of the way I look.
**Update** I ordered the walnut shrimp and chinese broccoli again today. I checked my order when I got out to the car to find regular broccoli again. I took my order and receipt back inside to ask the staff and she just said, we don't have gai lan. I told her I didn't want to pay $10 for generic broccoli and asked if I could order another vegetable side. I opted for a mushroom/bok choy mixture and then she proceeded to tell me it would be $2 more. I said never mind and walked out. Very disappointed with my shrimp. I'll start taking my business up to Evergreen.
Take out only at the moment. Good food
Overall it was not too bad. I ordered the orange chicken after reading another review. While tasty, the portion sizes were small. The spring roll was very good!
Tried 2 different kinds of shrimp, overcooked both times
Not as good as usual
Our favorite carry out. Orange chicken is amazing
First time ordering from here and my food was amazing. Will order again.
Just discovered this place and love the food. Our favorite dishes were served hot and good value for the price.
Not bad but portions arent the biggest like one would typically be used to when it comes to Chinese. Also no inside dining
The food has always been spectacular!!!
Really good Chinese food! I will be returning. Large menu.
Use to be good
great fried rice 🍚 dishes good 🍤 shrimp good egg foo young dishes happy family 👪 meals one of my favorite Chinese dining facilities.
I've not ate here always wanted to. I've only picked up food from here for customers they're very nice to delivery drivers only problem it's always 10 to 15 minute wait but I understand because they're preparing the food it's not fast food. I understand I appreciate there help.
Recently found this gem while I was working. Food is amazing!
If you don’t have all of the ingredients for a dish, don’t sell the item. Where do these restaurants get off substituting ingredients for shrimp foo young… epic fail..nasty, threw them away
Always excellent food here! Reasonable prices too. Hope they reopen for dine in soon!
THE FRIED RICE IS WHITE RICE WITH SOY SAUCE ON IT. NOTHING FRIED ABOUT IT! THEY DONT EVEN PUT VEGGIES IN THE RICE. WHITE RICE + SOY SAUCE = LAI LAI FRIED RICE
Delicious. Good prices and good food. Hit em up before u go watch that new marvel movie.
Extremely overpriced but decent food
Consistent quality and reasonable prices for the last twenty years now. Right now it's take out only, and a mask is required for entry.
Fried rice slaps! Best fried rice I've had in 10 years living around here. Lomein noodles were disappointing, they were like spaghetti noodles but dish tasted good. Curry shrimp lacked in flavor, It was my first time ordering the curry. The time before I had chicken LoMein from here it was tasty and the noodles tasted better but still were no real LoMein noodles that time they were flat like linguine noodles. I heard from someone that loves lai lai that they have 2 diff cooks and ones food is really flavorful while the other is just ok. I think they may also have a chinese menu for more authentic chinese food.
This was my first time ordering from here. The man working was very friendly.. food was great.. The vegetable fried rice was very good! I will definitely be going back!
I’ve taken two bites of the chicken and pea pods and it’s the worst Chinese I’ve ever had. I’m not sure what sauce is used but it looks and tastes like clear snot and the chicken is wet and limp. First time I’ve gotten anything from there and def won’t be getting anything else in the future.
Lai Lai never really wows me, but it's still our go-to place in the area. It's affordable and most of the dishes are good.
Always a great experience at Lai Lai. Large portions, fair prices, friendly people.
Fast friendly and the food is always great!
Carry out only, but very good.
Best in A2.
Ordered several entrees last week and all were bland, at best. The only food we got that had any taste were the chicken egg rolls, and not in a good way. In fact, the egg rolls had a foul taste that even the extra sauces couldn't hide so they were thrown out. The 2 stars were for the good variety of vegetables that were cooked well. Even the decent pricing wouldn't be enough to have me buy from there again.
Never had a bad experience, and this place has been here for what, 30 years? Obviously it sticks around for a reason!
I love there food
Very good food....
The best chinese food in town!
Great as always!!!
Easy to place online ordering, with delicious food. Was out visiting family and my wife was craving Chinese. My sister recommend this place. Got a great quantity of food for the price and everything was delicious. I normally get my wife's egg roll as she does not like them. Unfortunately this place egg rolls were so good she actually ate it this time. Oh well, guess we will have to visit my family again to be able to get more egg rolls.
Favorite Chinese food on this side of town!
Squid is the best. Love the food. No dine in at this time.
The quality of preparation has declined over time
It looks like they just throw ingredients into the package
No thought into ratio
Used to be my favorite they are definently going down hill
Fresh delicious food
Good food and a decent price
Ordered bean sprout & pan fried noodle. It w as s good but not amazing.
Best asian takeout in town. Very pleasant people who don't rush you. I love general tso's and this the only place in town that does it right. The noodles weren't mushy, the egg rolls were perfect, the rice was well cooked and flavorful and the sauteed shrimp was and butter sauce was some of the best I've had.
I wont be going anywhere else for asian takeout in this area.
The staff in Lai Lai are very nice, they are always welcoming when someone walks in. This is some of the best Chinese food in the area. You can tell their fried rice is made fresh with every order and they always give more than enough serving size. I really like this place and come at least once a month!
Are you under new ownership? This used to be our go-to takeout, but last night the beef/broccoli was bland, my son's kung pao chicken had no kick (or flavor) to it, and the chow mein we ordered was sprouts and not noodles??
ON THE OTHER hand, my other son liked his eggrolls, and my wife reported her mu shu was tasty.
But on the other other hand, I think it's time to order some new fortune cookies. (These were very stale.)
Overall, not sure we're ordering again. Too many Chinese joints in Ann Arbor to mess around.
So disappointed with my Mother's day meal tonight. Obviously rushed with no care put into preparing our Families meal this evening. My vegetable egg foo young was burnt and hastily put together, My Hubby's orange chicken tasted like it was cooked days ago or in old grease. Very disappointing ☹️
I ordered their pepper pork, which is fried pork with diced green & red peppers with a few diced chili. This is so good! Even better, if you like something low key and authentic, congee! it's so nostalgic. This is a rice porridge, that goldilocks was fighting for. I recommend Pork preserved egg aka CG4 on their menu.
The Chinese restaurant closest to our home is ok, but the general's chicken is always gristly. Lai Lai is a higher quality restaurant but still very reasonable priced. I stopped in recently and ordered 5 different meals, they had everything ready in about 10 minutes. The shrimp in the fried rice was tender, not rubbery, the general's chicken was made of good quality chicken, not too much breading, the chicken and broccoli was perfectly cooked, chicken very tender and broccoli still a touch crunchy. All in all everything was delicious.
Nice place to eat with my wife and Family too.
Food was very good service was very good staff was friendly and the prices was good I plan on going back
bad food
undercooked food, bad taste
Delicious food and excellent service! My sister and I stopped by for last minute takeout at 9:10 on a Sunday when they close at 9:30. Not something we usually do, (because I've worked in the service industry and I get it) but we were starving and asked politely if they'd still take our order. The man up front said he'd be happy to, and the food was hot, fresh, tasty, and served with a smile. 10/10 would recommend!
Decent Chinese food
Food was delicious and staff was very friendly
Authentic Chinese food that's not too salty. Check out the house specialties and the beef + scrambled egg dish lunch special.
Christmas day dinner, atmosphere was GREAT!! Will be visiting again, it was lovely
One of my favorite restaurants in the area, great service and wonderful food!
I had the General Chicken for lunch. The sweet and sour soup was very good. The portions were generous and tasty.
If I could give negative stars I would. Placed an order online went and PICKED IT UP, they forgot to put sweet-and-sour sauce in the bag for one of the meals. Called them up and they told me it would be 15 to 20 minutes for the driver to get to me and he was on his way right now. After an hour I still had no sauce. Manager refunded but wouldn’t remake the ruined order. Tried to give me free almond cookies as a substitute meal replacement. Gave me 3 different stories on why the DELIVERY driver wasn’t to me yet: got lost, went in the wrong, was given wrong directions. Then was told he had a Garmin GPS. Not the first time I had a bad experience with there delivery drivers.
The food we ordered was good, and the person taking orders answered my questions about specific allergies when i called to order. Unfortunately my wife ordered chicken lo mein and when we got it there were 2 shrimp in it. Luckily for us, we have no shellfish allergies in our home but maybe someone else reading this does. Shows me that either they don't take time cleaning properly in-between dishes or take time when preparing the food.
Definitely ask for a box, really good
Omg 😍 This restaurant's food was very nice. Found a good Chinese restaurant after a long while
Good, convenient, fast.
Always fresh
First time eating here tonight and it's now our favorite!! You get alot of food. The food was fresh and delicious. And takeout was fast!
Food is always good.
Excellent: People, Food, experience. Chicken with Eggplant in garlic infused brown sauce is really delicious. Shrimp with scrambled eggs was quite good. Lai lai, consistently gets 5 stars from all points of view.
The service is great. Some food is pretty authentic. You can ask them for suggestion. Since they pursue the freshness of food, it is pretty likely that the food you want to order is out. Make sure you tell them in advance if you really want to take one cuisine. If you want to eat duck, they only have it from Friday to Sunday. They only have three ducks in stock, so first come first serve. Their congee is great, though. It comes with a large bowl, should be enough for 3-4 people.
The most authentic Chinese food restaurant I've been to in a while. I mean they even sell Congee!
The food at Lai Lai is always tasty. They have the usual menu and some really unique authentic meals too. Fast service with a smile. We love Lai Lai!
Great Chinese food 👌
Excellent place for food and atmosphere and customer service!
Awesome lunch specials. Egg roll and soup included for less than $10. And the food tastes great!!
Some of the best Asian cuisine in the Ann Arbor-Ypsi area. Highly recommend!
It was too chilly in the restaurant, portion sizes were large, ok food which came out at different and odd timea, nice staff.
The best little hidden gem in Ypsi/Ann Arbor. Crab rangoun is awesome, staff are very friendly. I go here with friends all the time for lunch on days off
