Modern Thai Restaurant with Full Service & Bar (Coming Soon!)
Boss man ordered us some food while in town for work. Drunken noodles were delicious. I liked the chew on the noodle, the sauce it was coated in & I would gladly eat that again. Egg & Chicken in the dish, both had a great texture. It can be challenging to cook both to my taste in the same dish, my palate was appreciative.
We thought they closed. We always went to the little kiosk, great food. Now they have a whole restaurant. It's beautiful to. It says a bar is coming which may be nice for the whole location. I swear the prices did go up a little bit and less portion (we used to take half home) still great food and now maybe a good place to have a nice dinner. We went for our anniversary. Service great to.
The pad Thai was very good, I like that you can choose your spice level (1-5). I added fried tofu, which made the dish even better. I would have liked more vegetables in it, as there seemed to be just a few. I will add more to my leftovers at home, but will also come back here to eat and try other items.
Rak Thai used to be our go-to place to get Pad Thai. Their Pad Thai was delightful - the sauce was amazing, there was a huge helping of peanuts and cilantro and carrots and bean sprouts. It was our favorite!
Now that they've changed their menu and moved into a bigger space, they've drastically changed their Pad Thai. It now tastes and looks like every other restaurant's Pad Thai, which is to say, boring. They also used to have amazing crab rangoons, but have since taken those off the menu too.
We're super disappointed and will not be going back, sadly, as we can just make our own Pad Thai if we want flavor and veggies in it.
The service is wonderful, as is the atmosphere!
Beef pad thai has been great each time I’ve ordered. Got the Thai iced tea this last time and that was also delicious! Such a great spot to enjoy and their updated spot looks amazing!
Ever since they moved locations their service has become so poor. I came to pick up my orders and not only had they not been started there was no one in the kitchen preparing anything. As you can see directly into the kitchen. I was here for 4 minutes before I even saw anyone start preparing food. And there were 2 other people waiting when I arrived. It's a shame I used to like eating here because they were quick even when busy. Now even when not busy they are slow and with a limited lunch break waiting an extra 8-10 minutes doesn't work.

Good place, great place and great food 👌🏻 👍 😋 😀
Disappointed that they no longer offer several dishes that were on the menu before. Got the red curry and drunken noodles. Both were very good. Just miss the old take out place. Seemed like the portions were bigger then and more to offer for a quick lunch or dinner on the go
Located in front dining room
I'm very disappointed that Rak Thai has become a sit-down restaurant. The new restaurant itself is beautiful, but I received poor service and my meal was crazy overpriced. I used to come here because it was affordable, convenient, and fast, and I loved the boba and mochi donuts (which they took off the menu). I don't really have a reason to come here anymore; it no longer stands out when compared to other Thai restaurants.

Super disappointed 😢 made the trip from grand haven just to get mochi donuts only to find out that they no longer have them! They should seriously rethink this. Their bubble tea and donuts were a main reason we would visit the market.
Food was good but the waitress gave us our check while we were still eating. We didn’t even ask for the check yet, felt very rushed.

So sad about the menu change ☹️. I loved to come for the bubble tea and donuts.
I LOVE the new place! The food at their old place wasn't great but it's AMAZING now! Will definitely be back! We had the nachos for an app and WOW!!!! So delicious!
I am a stage 3 cancer survivor, my body always hurts, I had to sit down because my asthma and neuropathy in my feet were really bad, I got a menu and was going to order a pad thai and a thai tea to go and the waitress was super rude and told me to place my order and wait some where else for it. There was no where else to sit and I needed to sit. Why does it matter if I eat the food there or take it to go. I was planning on sitting at the table to drink my drink, rest a bit and take the food for my dinner later. I left upset with no dinner for later and ended up having an asthma attack on the way to my car.
I came here for a business lunch. We ordered the crab stir fry (good), the papaya salad (excellent), drunken noodles with chicken (excellent) and shrimp curry (really yummy). We had good service and it was beyond my expectations. Definitely will be back.
I usually order online, so I can't speak to the restaurant atmosphere. Rak Thai is in my regular rotation for Thai food, and I prefer it over many of the other Thai restaurants in Grand Rapids, so I eat here quite a bit. My favorite is the curry pad thai, but I do also like their peanut noodles, rak fries and bangkok bulgogi. I love that there are five different spice levels, and they really don't hold back. I usually eat everything at rak hot and it's nice and spicy, but it doesn't drown out all the great flavors. The new mochi donuts are awesome and I have a soft spot for the taro flavor. Order accuracy is perfect every time and food arrives hot.
👍
Mochi donuts so good. Looks like they have a little bit of everything and I'll be happily returning.
Excellent Thai food (and boba tea!) - one of my mainstays at the downtown market!!
The Mochi Donuts are wonderful and so fun! And the Pad Thai is always perfect!
Love this restaurant and order here all the time, HOWEVER. Today my white rice tasted like literal BLEACH. Unsure if they are properly cleaning/rinsing off the stuff they use to cook in but should seriously look into this as I’ve vomited within 20 minutes of eating this and my throat is currently burning.
Delicious orange chicken! They give you a decent amount for what you pay
They are the best!
Went to eat at Fish Lads. Only ate there and then left with my spouse. Had a $24 charge on my credit card the next day from Rak Thai, which I did NOT visit or even stop at- was not even at the DTM that day. Called my credit card company. Something shady going on. I definitely did not shop there.
My Thai place!!!! Best Flavors!
Got the curry noodles and have to say I was a bit disappointed. The flavor of the sauce was good, but needed about double the amount they put in. I was also surprised by the very small amount of vegetables that were in my dish—especially compared to some of the photos posted on the google listing by other visitors. Not worth the fairly high price in my opinion.
Amazing curry pad Thai. Love the tamarind fish sauce-I really think this sets it apart in terms of flavor!
I tried the Bulgogi and it was a bit plain, I was hoping for more Thai flavor.
Had some decent food here but the past three times were awful. They gave literally less than half the amount of noodles that they typically did for my peanut noodles. It was basically soup. And the tapioca pearls in the boba tea were soooooooo hard i couldn't even drink it. People were nice enough just three bad eating experiences in a row for way too much money.
Outstanding. Skip uncle cheetas. Just a wow
Not bad. Got the Pad See Ew. Flavor was mostly there, little too sweet. Protein and veggies were good. Two issues I have with it. One, they don’t use fresh noodles and two, they did not get good noodle charing. Using fresh wide noodles and having good technique to get the noodles to char in a high heat wok separate the mediocre Pad See Ews and the amazing ones. This one fell in the mediocre level. If you’ve had good Thai street food or been to Thailand you know.
Always great service. They go above and beyond to make sure the order is done right and they put in extra effort to make sure the food is great
Very pricey for the portions you get. They were very friendly and the food was delicious but just know going in you will be spending some money and may walk away hungry as I did. I don't regret my lunch there at all even though my wallet kicked me on the way out 🤣
I said "Make me something that tastes like Koolaid" to the server and he did not disappoint! Tea and the tapioca at the bottom was delicious!
Bulgogi & Pad Thai were very good & delivery was fast.
Highly recommend coming here for anything from their food to drinks to mochi donuts! All extremely good and tastes fresh. The employees are also extremely friendly and welcoming.
Was craving some Thai this holiday weekend and thankfully this restaurant was open. The curry pad Thai was phenomenal!! We usually get our curry noodle Thai at another location but now we have a competitor. The circle container they place the food in is large, heavy and filled to the brim. We read on previous reviews that there was not enough curry sauce on the meals so we ordered xtra on the side and would recommend others to do the same because there definitely was not enough curry sauce in either our dishes. The only main reason we would go to our other location for Thai is the price. Rak runs on the high side.
was looking forward to trying the brown sugar bubble tea after having it in chicago and i was very disappointed. not only was it insanely overpriced but it was way too sweet. even my boyfriend thought it was disgusting. tried to get it remade with less sweetness but they said they couldn’t do anything:(
Really good flavor food, served hot and quick. Unfortunately we found a deep fried German cockroach in our Rak Fries and we were done. The employee semi apologized and offered a refund. Didn’t accept it and hold no ill will towards this place. I just won’t be able to eat here again.
Favorite Boba tea and now doughnuts!
Just had the boba tea here and it was so basic with flimsy cups. Very little boba and wayyyy too sweet. $20 for two 24 oz. and one mochi donut.
Busiest place in town
Poor customer service. They all acted like they didn't want to be there and they seemed like the customers were an inconvenience to them.
I ordered the Orange Chicken and the CSR asked me what level heat I wanted, and I didn't know what he was referring to, he gave me this terrible look and said "it's up on the board" no context, nothing.
The chicken was over cooked and very tough to eat.
It was pretty pricey for the serving size.
Great place! Good Thai food with a good selection. I really like the downtown marketplace. Seating was slim at the marketplace during Sunday lunch, but Rak Thai as a restaurant was very good.
Ordered 4 $16 entrees this weekend and all 3 of the items, bulgogi, pad Thai, and orange chicken we're so bland nearly inedible. Portions half the size of what we expected based on the pictures in the menu. No noticable flavoring other than the spice in the spicy one. The bulgogi was so tough it was hard to chew and there was about 1 bite of kimchee. Pad Thai had no "sauce" of any kind. Just cooked noodles with peanuts for flavor. Orange chicken tasted like orange peel, very bitter/sour. Real bummer for $80.
Went to try the place. We grabbed multiple dishes to try and had two of them with spice level of 5 "BANKAI" not worth it. You just taste the spice and no other flavors to the food and that was with the drunken noodles and kimchee fried rice. The milk teas are so-so but you can taste the leftover powder that didn't fully mix in. All in all first time trying and probably last.
This is my go-to place when I want a bubble tea. Great service, a good amount of choices for food and drinks too.
I got curry Pad Thai and was asked how spicy I want it, and answered “as spicy as you can”. I don’t know how they normally measure spice, but that got it to a level that most places are not willing to serve. Loved it, but be aware. Great flavor outside of the spiciness as well.
The best Thai in town in my experience, their spice levels are spot on as well
This place was hyped up so we decided to try it. Not a great experience at all. If you like Thai food I’d recommend anywhere else. The girl at the register didn’t have answers to basic questions. Price to portion ratio is way off. The pad Thai was wet, everything was soft including the peanuts, and crab rangoons. The bean sprouts smelled and tasted like a wet dog. overall not good.
I ordered takeout from here. Good, but nothing super amazing. Also, they were pretty conservatice on spicing in my opinion, so if you like it spicy I would ask for it!
This is not Thai food. If you like sickly sweet noodles that lack any of the flavors that you’d expect from Thai food, than this is the place to go, but if you’re looking for actual Thai go anywhere else.
My husband and I got the mochi donuts and noodle bowls. They do have vegan options! ❤️ I had the drunken noodles and it was really good.
Tasty and quick
This Is Hands Down My Favorite Go To For Kimchi Fried Rice And Boba Tea!!! YUM Its A Must Try For Any Taste Sweet Or Savory! I've Never Been Disappointed In 5 Years!
I got the orange chicken. It didn't taste like "orange" at all. Not even a hint. NO ORANGE. It didn't taste like anything actually. Just a hot sweet thick sauce that was kinda like burnt and bitter tasting. Very dry and chewy. The rice wasn't even good. Mild was pretty spicy. Panda express tastes 10x better and to me that's saying something.
Awesome food. Awesome people. Awesome service.
Haven’t tried the food but did try their boba. Limited boba options in terms of flavors, both the milk tea and the fruit tea were lackluster - the milk tea literally just tasted like sweet milk and the tapioca was 1/5, super chewy and the flavor is off on the tapioca. Will come back for the food and write a separate review.
My kids absolutely love the bubble tea and the donuts!
Best Pad Thai in GR. Very reasonably priced they only drawback is that they're located in the Downtown Market which closes at 7 PM.
This is maybe the fifth Thai restaurant I’ve reviewed and for sure the worst. My Pad Thai was a one star but my wife’s was a three. I ordered a curry pad Thai and ended up with what the photos show. Basically inedible except we have curry sauce at home which helped. The curry rice was nearly as bad.
Food is alright, can be bland in my opinion. I go here more out of convenience than anything. My biggest issue is that about 40% of the time, my order is incorrect. I always specify things like "No carrots" or "No beansprouts", but a little under half the times I still get these items. For their noodle dishes, when I specify "No carrots", they will put "No garnish carrots" as the descriptor and so I always end up getting the diced carrots that come in the curry pad thai, which is extremely annoying. I always have to double check my items before I take them home. They are nice about remaking my food when it is incorrect, but I don't always have time to stand around for another 15 minutes while they remake it. I wish they would be better about reading the order receipts, these mistakes would not happen if they were a little more attentive. It wasn't even busy today but the girl put beansprout garnish on my food, and I didn't have time to wait for another one as I was grabbing food right before I was heading to work. I shouldn't have to feel like it is a gamble whether my food will be made correctly when I come here. If you are a bit picky with your food and have certain specifications, this may not be the best place to go to. I don't come here as much due to this reason, and decided to try again today but once again there was something incorrect about my order.
I'm looking for some REALLY good Thai food in Grand rapids and this was pretty close. I love the choice of spice level. I ordered level 4 of 5 spice and it was really spicy which was great. The rak fries were not great, but I guess that's my fault for ordering French fries at a Thai restaurant. They were seasoned really well but too soft for my taste.
Good variety of bubble tea, the new mochi donuts are delicious, and the food is awesome too. Always excellent service.
I think I caught them on an off day - it happens. However, the food is made of quality ingredients and generally well prepared. I did get a free milk tea out of the wait and will be back to try it again.
BEST Chicken Pad Thai in town. Rak Hot is the perfect heat level in my opinion. Their ingredients are very fresh and delicious, the staff are friendly and cheerful, and Rak Thai is on DoorDash...so no excuses...ORDER SOME!! A+ 5 Star amazing Thai.
Great food! Not too pricy, great staff too.
they just came out w mochi donuts and they’re so amazing! so many flavors and very soft my bf liked them sm he made me leave a review, but also their drinks are very creative and great!
1st time having mochi donuts and im now very addicted. They are delicious!
i love it never fails
This is one of my favorite Thai places in Grand Rapids. It was honestly my first Thai experience a number of months ago and I have absolutely loved everything I have gotten from Rakthai! Highly recommend the pad Thai!
Pretty pricy, but their fried rice and tofu are to die for!
The staff was friendly, but the food was far from great. I spent 3 months in Thailand, so I am a harsh critic lol. Nothing compares to the REAL deal. I ordered the curry noodles, there was maybe 4 tiny pieces of chicken, hardly any sauce at all, and a few diced up carrots and green onions. I basically paid $10 for a bowl of noodles. Very disappointing!!
Best pad Thai I've had so far!
Great food, great boba, great employees!
I ordered from Rak Thai through Grub Hub for the first time tonight and everything went wrong. When I got my delivery, my food was cold and they did not get my order right. I called the restaurant to tell them this to get it corrected only for them to tell me I have to contact grub hub to get it fixed. I went through Grub Hub to get my order fixed and they just gave me a refund. The driver called me to say that now he is being punished for the mistake instead of the restaurant. I cant eat what they made me as its gross, soggy, cold and incorrect. Shame on this restaurant for blaming other hard working people for their mistake.
The food was amazing, I ordered the peanut noodles with shrimp. The only thing keeping me from giving a five star is that they left the tail shells on the shrimps.
Their drunken noodles only have a spice measurement of 0-5. I asked for a 6 and I felt like I was dying. It was awesome.
Love the boba but it ain’t cooked all the way. They are hard to eat and don’t slide up the straw easily so they are stuck most of the time.
First time trying this place and it was delicious! Beautiful night so we sat outside and enjoyed the nice cooler October weather. Kimchi fried rice with tofu was so good with medium heat. My little guy picked tofu pad Thai no spicy and that was delicious. We also got the chicken with peanut curry medium heat and that was also good. Taro boba and passion fruit boba was yummy too. Everything good!
Love the bubble tea have yet to try the boba! But whenever I’m here I always grab a drink from here, I love it!
Love this place! They have amazing food and boba tea!!
The veggie/meat to rice ratio left a lot to be desired. Flavor was good, but I was downing water afterwards and it wasn’t from the spice level.
One of the best Thai takeouts in town, nestled inside the beautiful and fun Downtown Market.
Salty. The only dish we got that wasn't drowning in salt was the Vegan Pad See Yu. The steamed tofu is delicious, but the saltiness of the dishes was overwhelming. Very small servings and little to no vegetables, depending on the dish.
Very good food...
We ordered here because my daughter wanted to try bubble tea. We really liked it, she got the taro milk tea and I got frozen lemonade. We weren't very hungry so we shared a small side of their fried rice and it was very good, had a lot of flavor. We will definitely order here again.
This is a pretty good place. My wife always orders so we stick with the same dish would love to try something new. The crab cheese weren't great, but they never really are no matter where you get them if they are to go
Loved the kimchi fried rice! I added chicken and I think they also mixed in chicken skins when frying, giving the fried rice a lot of texture and flavor. I regularly eat spicy food and the level 3 hotness here was perfect for me.
Food is great. I bought the orange chicken and it took two bites per chicken chunk. Heaping sized rice to go with it and the sauce is good as well. I bought all of the sides and each was a bite of delicious. I will order from here again.
Usually I just get boba here but the food is good too, lots of options, and nice people.
Great food and even better atmosphere.
I ordered the Orange Chicken. They ask you how hot (spicy) you want it on a scale from 1 to 5. I ordered a 3. I consider myself to have a decent tolerance for spicy food. That being said, if this was a 3, I don't wanna know how hot the 5 is. I was sweating and my tongue started to physically ache. However, the flavor was incredible and the chicken was cooked perfectly. Even though it was very spicy, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. When I go back, I'll definitely be getting a 2 instead of a 3.
Wow! There food is amazing i came here with two friends.THEY LOVED IT! I got their curry rice it was soo good! I highly recommend this place.YUM!
If you are the worker with the purple beanie and red hair and you really bonded with these two girls. Just know we think of you often and we love you forever! Xoxo
The peach + passionfruit lemonade bubble tea (iced) with rambow jellies was just.. AMAZING!!!!
Might be the best Pad Thai in Grand Rapids, they use authentic ingredients and it’s so fresh. Couldn’t recommend them more.
Love their food! The Peanut Noodles are my favorite. Bubble teas are delicious as well. Highly recommend.
Had the Vegetable Pad Thai today. I was just perfect!!
Bangkok Bulgagi is the best dish I’ve ever had! Definitely a must-have if you haven’t tried it before!!
Worst fake Thai food every had you might as well compare this to Panda Express
The frozen bubble tea is the absolute best, and I've loved every worker that's interacted with me! The location in the downtown market is amazing too. I recommend getting a punch card to earn a free drink.
Addicted to your bubble tea!!! More please!
Drunken noodle and springs rolls are my go to. favorite place for thai food.
This is the first place I've ever eaten Thai food from and I'm continuously disappointed when I eat it elsewhere. My go to lunch spot! Veggies are always fresh and food service is great. Enough time to walk around the market while you're waiting for your meal. Also the spice levels are spot on. I love spice food and hot (their middle level) is perfect.
My preferred choice of Chicken Pad-Thai in the Greater Grand Rapids area. Can't beat the location either!
Tasty good service
This place was delicious! I ordered spicy chicken curry and it was spicy. The cool thing is you can choose your spice level for the food items. My brother got orange chicken and he enjoyed that as well. It is a bit pricey for the portion but I guess the location makes the price go up. But I would recommend this place, it was good and made me full.
Customer service... What's that
Bubble tea with boba was awesome!
Their bubble tea is always such a fun treat, and they have many options for flavors! Also tried the pad thai for the first time, and it was delicious!
This will forever be my favorite Thai restaurant. I started coming here when they only had one location on Northland Drive years ago. The lemongrass soup is definitely a favorite ofiof m, especially when I'm feeling I'll. The crab rangoons are to DIE FOR, they're savory and delicious, not the cheap, nasty, sweet ones at other restaurants. The Pad Thai and the Pad See Yew is avsoabsolu incredible and I would highly recommend either dish to a newcomer! They're also on Uber Eats!
Peanut curry is thin. But best I've found on this side of the state
Quick, delicious, fresh and reasonably priced.
Good food and service was fast. Prices were reasonable. Has vegan options.
This restaurant was so overpriced and the food was not even that good.
If I could give a negative rating I would.
Crazy delish. This is more of a modern Asian fusion, but they pull it off well. I can get some Korean, Chinese, and of course Thai. I always have to get a bubble tea as well. Also I love that it’s in the Downtown market.
