This is a small and cozy restaurant with excellent service that makes you feel very welcomed. The dishes are overall decent, not particularly outstanding, but the quality is consistent. The prices are also very reasonable, making it a good choice for casual dining or simple gatherings.
Reasonable prices, Mediocre ambience, friendly service BUT big on flavor is Kala Thai.
This is a sister restaurant of Chen yen cookery in Watertown same owners …. not surprised the food is equally good.
Galangal Soup / kee Mao ( my favorite) basil fried rice / penang curry / crispy shrimp rolls everything we tried was amazing except for the chicken wings ..
I've never had Kaprow in a dumpling until I came here and changed my life forever. The fried corn cakes and the pinapple curry were also to die for. This place is delightful, reasonably priced, and very fast/efficient. I'll definitely be back again soon.
Thanks for a great meal.
The place is popular, we went on a Saturday evening and it was packed. Serving so many people created problems for the restaurants - the quality of one dish was average. I requested chop sticks and some chili garlic paste to spice up my food, to 3 servers and yet I didn’t get it. The service is quick and people polite.
A pretty standard Thai restaurant in a heavily touristy area. I wish they would serve the curry in a bowl instead of a flat plate, which made it really hard to mix the rice with the sauce. The curry was also a bit bland. My friend liked her Pad See Ew. The corn fritters had a lot of corn and the dipping sauce was good. Overall, it was okay experience, given the affordable price for the location. I would come back here again to try more dishes if I happen to be around the area.
Ordered galangal soup w shrimp, mango salad, kee mao w beef or veg, green curry w chicken, pineapple curry w veg.
Overall good flavors, not super spicy. Lots of meat for each dish. Would most recommend mango salad, kee mao w beef, and green curry.
Service was friendly and helpful, on top of water refills even during busy spells.
Simple place, excellent food, service and price! Very well located close to Haymarket. One of my favorite restaurants in Boston! All we have order is great and in addition, just recently tried the rib one and it was outstanding to my taste! Congrats to the entire team for great (and consitent) quality food! Me and my spouse are big fan of your!
I come here all the time, get the char kewy teow
Got our food in 5 minutes, and it was the best Thai food I’ve ever had.
Very tasty food overall. My only complaint is that food potions are small. When I eat lunch here, most often than not, I'm still hungry afterwards.
It’s overrated and very average Thai food, I had Thai basil beef (Ka Pow) and it very underwhelming food. Try (My Thai Vegan Cafe) restaurant downtown boston
One of the best Thai Currys I've ever had! We have a few intolerances which they were great at providing for! Very fresh and tasty
Decent dishes. Dirty bathroom. Questionable hygiene by kitchen staff. I saw a man exit the bathroom, not wash his hands and go into the kitchen. The bathroom was also completely filthy after he exited.
The food was good. Not amazing but still worth going out for. Asked for a dish to be less spicy if possible if not we will choose something else. They said they can make it mild instead and they continued to make it the spiciest thing in the world. We can handle spice so we still ate it but not really cool to not make it milder when we asked. Blew our stomachs out after.
Excellent!!
Reasonable prices, Mediocre ambience, friendly service BUT big on flavor is Kala Thai.

Galangal Soup / kee Mao ( my favorite) basil fried rice / penang curry / crispy shrimp rolls everything we tried was amazing except for the chicken wings ..
Good food and quick service. The coconut cream soup is something very different and fun, recommend that!
Excellent! Very flavorful food and excellent service. One of the best Thai places I have ever been to. So happy we are staying so close to this place. We will deft be coming back! Also very cozy and the staff is so friendly!!! A must if you’re around the area!

Excellent all around. We had the kee mow, Panang curry, and pineapple curry. All three were super delicious. Service was great and on point. Clean environment. Will return again.
Their short rib curry is really good
If I could give six stars, I would.
Absolutely incredible food, some of the most authentic and delicious Thai food I have had in the USA.
I have been working on my
Great, quick and polite service.
And best of all? Absolutely great prices. Seriously, you cannot find a better restaurant in Boston at even double this price range.
Excellent... Kaprow dumplings, must try.
Edit :
Just went back... Still excellent 😁
Edit 12/9/24: blah, my kaprow wasn't very good, too sweet and I've had crispy fried eggs but never burnt @$2. 50 each . I wasn't really ready, but server gave me the bill... Wasn't busy, 3pm, 2 tables... Maybe she had other things to do.
I hate when I come back to a restaurant I liked so much and have a bad experience, was going to say something , but she barely seemed interested in her job 🤷
Whenever I take my visitors to Haymarket, lunch at Kala Thai is a must. I love how efficiently they run the place. The food is delicious and tastes authentic. The Ka Pow is my favorite. The place can get very busy, especially during lunch hour, so going a little early can help.
Hole in wall food place must try.. initially I ordered pad thai flavorful but it was too sweet for me ( indian descent). They were very kindful to change my dish to char kway teow, very delicious. Quick service, decent and busy place. :)

Thanks for a great meal.
Nice and cool environment...the foods are very nice with homemade touches. Well, if you are visiting this place, prepare to be a little bit patient with them due to small space and short-staffed.
ordered from here twice now, had the seafood pad thai, galangal soup, and a grilled chicken rice dish. all so delicious! i would appreciate extra sauce though, or some lime slices with the pad thai.
The best thing I can say about this place is that none of us got sick afterwards. Four of us went, all four found our dinners were edible, but second-rate. I cannot imagine where all the rave reviews come from, unless it's tanked-up tourists who couldn't find a place to sit in nearby Quincy Market.
Great place for Thai food. Quick service, good quality food!
Delicious! Place is small and can get busy. Service isn't incredible but the food is worth it!
Meh
Great food. I got it delivered to my car so I can't say much about atmosphere. They didn't take long though.
Quaint inexpensive gem in the city. Non-alcoholic beverages, freshly cooked authentic Thai dishes.
Best place for Thai food in and around Boston, period. The Basil Fried rice is one of the best I’ve ever had (as good as the best ones in NYC) . You also must try their Kapow Dumplings (the sauce is ❤️)! Definitely my go to place for Thai!
Average food, papaya salad and rolls were not favor full
Lacked some spice but the flavors were spot on. I’ll definitely return and ask to kick up the heat a notch
Flavorful fresh food, you hear the food being prepared.Small place , but good.In my 4 day stay got food twice from this place.Would go again.
By far the freshest Thai food that I have ever had. Everything was made to order and all the ingredients tasted like they came right from the farmers market
Possibly the best Thai food I have had in North America.
Amazing Thai food. We are vegetarians and thoroughly enjoyed the Green Curry and Kee Mao we ordered.
Casual eatery on the East side of Hanover St. Food is fresh, prepared in an open kitchen right behind you and has a nice view of the Rose Kennedy Greenway. Will stop in again!
Great food. Very authentic.
Really fresh and delicious pineapple curry with chicken! Nice service and reasonable prices. I highly recommend eating there!
Very delicious food with reasonable prices.
excellent Thai food
Some of the best Thai I’ve had outside of Thailand. Perfect level of spice, fresh, great flavors, fast service. Amazing food!
Good food
Some of the best pad Thai I’ve had. Wicked flavorful.
Pad kee mao is delicious
Excellent lunch spot. Deserves it's rating. Wife and I split the Pad Kee Mao and Cashew Chicken. Would highly recommend both. Lots of other things on the menu that I would love to try in the future.
Service was quick, restaurant was super packed
Food was great! First place up here that serves me Thai hot when I ask for it
Good depth of flavor and everything was piping hot and fresh. I even got sticky rice (not the dessert) as a side
My only complaint is at the Curry comes served in like a shallow bowl/ saucer, which makes it cool down far too quickly
Otherwise, though everything was amazing and I can definitely recommend this place!

Excellent drunken noodles! Some of the best in the city!
Delicious food, friendly service. Perfect for a busy day in Boston.

Beef Kee Mao was so incredible it made me leave this review which I never do so take it from me 😋
Great location near the market, great food, pretty authentic thai and malaysian food, had great experience here.
Pad Khee Mao was excellent. But portion size is far smaller than every other Thai place.
Good food and awesome people. Ka pao moo is exactly the same as I ate in Thailand. All of the people who work here are super sweet. The owner tried his best to answer my questions even that’s not a part of his job!
So glad to have this Thai option in the North End! I love their Tom Yum Soup, Mango Salad, and Red Curry dish!
Spicy noodle soup is the best in the world
Delicious authentic Thai food they offer vegetarian options. Very friendly staff.
Excellent and not expensive Thai restaurant. It was on a Friday early afternoon. It was busy and a bit noisy, but it is a very attractive place, given the quality of the food.
I tried the coconut soup and the grilled beef, it was super tasty!
I will come back to try this very good cuisine again.
Food was exceptional. Restaurant is on the smaller side but turnover was quick.
I give the food a 3 star ONLY because at my last bite, there was a tiny hair strain on my plate! I did not tell them because their food is really good and you can order to take out!
This was my first time eating there. I will stick with Lucky Boston Chinese Food on Washington street Forest Hill bus line. I realize you can't eat in every restaurant without an issue! Watch where you eat read the reviews to save yourself time and money.
Pad thai au goût de curry indien et pousses de bambou.

It was my first time in Boston and I walked into this restaurant by accident. Although there are so many customers that you have to queue outside the store, the waiters are very efficient and you will still get satisfactory service and delicious food. Highly recommended, the food here is delicious!
Food: as good as it gets in the Boston area. The food is seasoned, and actually tastes Thai. You’re able to choose the meat, alter spice level, and the waitresses are knowledgeable about dietary restrictions.
Service: The reason I am writing this review is because I have been going to Kala for a few months now. Usually on Saturday evenings. Waitress on Saturday, I believe her name is Bee, is wonderful. She is always smiling, checking in on my wife and I, and if anything ever goes wrong, she’s still very friendly. Best way to put it is that she is very friendly and can see other customers enjoy her service as well. However, the older waitress, P. Lee, I believe, can sometimes be rude. Not mean by any means, but can come off as rude. She rushes customers to make room for waiting customers. Which is fair but can be done nicely. On the flip side, reservations are not respected. If you go in with a reservation, be expected to wait, though be treated with priorty. We came on a Friday night (last night) and she was quite rude, almost blaming us for not having a table ready for our reservation. I usually attribute it to cultural differences, but I think her coldness supersedes culture. As the third waitress there, who usually stays in the back, is also very friendly whenever we do take out.
Atmosphere: It’s small, but it’s loud and busy and smells delicious. Music is playing, and when you get the right waitress, they can also make the night much better. Food really can’t be beat!!
Kee Mao (spicy) and Green Curry were super tasty, authentic flavors!
All the food so good🫰
Was so excited to try this place due to the reviews however the service and food missed the mark. The lady that serviced us today was not friendly one bit. She acted as if she didn't want us there. However when she waited on the white patrons she was smiling and very nice.
When she brought out our drinks and food she stood at a distance pushing the food onto the table.
We ordered the Jada noodles at chicken it was burnt with no flavor. We didn't even eat she didn't even question why it wasn't eaten. But it's obvious she didn't care.
The ginger chicken was so salty.
The ginger peach tea, there was no flavor of peach nor was there but maybe a drop of bourbon.
At the end of the day treat people with respect and be consistent. If you are overworked take a day off!
Honestly the food is right in the middle at 2/3 stars. I have significantly better Thai food in Seattle.
Unique Thai food in an excellent atmosphere. Very highly recommended.
Top notch food!
I’ve been to Kala Thai on 20+ occasions and it never disappoints. The food is amazing and the staff is very friendly.
Great ambience and service if you decide to dine-in, but the food is also great to carry out.
Highly recommend the spicy chicken dish or chicken pad Thai. Spring rolls are a great way to kick things off.
The pad thai was great, but maybe a bit too much fish sauce for my own personal liking. The corn appetizer was fine, and so was the fried chicken dumping. Green curry was great too. Service is friendly and fast; the restaurant needs to be a bit bigger to accommodate more customers.
Really really really good vegetarian options! My fvt thai restaurant in Boston!
Very small spot on the corner. I was by myself so I was able to be pointed to a seat on the corner window by the door. It was really noisy and crowded in that spot. I ate quickly, and don’t stay long.
The ladies were all nice who served me.
I ordered chicken pad Thai medium. I felt the “medium” was more bland than should have. I prefer more spice. I also asked for double protein but the one gal didn’t get it communicated in time. No biggie, just didn’t get it. Saved $3 by not adding it.
Prices were decent. Service was fast. Food was good. Would recommend to others but maybe for takeout.
I've worked in restaurants for years doing all sorts of different roles. My experience at this place was so great that I felt compelled to write this review. You can just tell they run a super tight ship here. Everything about the service was on point. Our waitress always had a smile on her face and didn't miss a beat.
I had the sukothai with shrimp and it was honestly one of the best dishes I have ever had. I was just blown away - I wasn't expecting to have such fine cuisine that night!! My buddies did good picking this spot. Everything was perfectly cooked, down to the green beans in the dish. Fine dining quality. It was actually insane.
My hats off to the chef, who I suspect was the one that brought the dish to me. I only wish I could have told them myself how impeccable their work was.
It was a full house and we came in about 30 minutes or so before closing time on a Friday night. Nevertheless, we were served as if it was prime time.
I cannot understate how impressive this place is. Such care and attention to craft an experience that will surely be an unforgettable moment of my brief time in downtown Boston. Thank you to all you hard working people at this place. 🙏
The mango salad with Chicken was terrific also had the spring rolls every bite was delicious 😋
Kee Mao and the Chicken Pad Thai are my favorite! 😋
Very small place, so may be hard to get a table for dinner. Food is outstanding, very convenient if you're staying close to North Station.
Food is great, really good value and lovely staff
Amazing food, fast service. Best Pad Thai I ever ate!
Authentic Thai food at very affordable prices in the city center.
Yes! Scrumptious… great value (meaning decent price and decently priced)! I nice pick me up on a rainy day.
My aunt is Thai and once I moved to Boston she implored I visit for authentic Thai food! This is the most reminiscent of authentic Thai food like I used to get when I visited!! Cannot recommend this enough!!! Basil fried rice and massaman curry are incredible!!!
Hardworking team and great food! Small dining area, but they serve everyone quickly. Worth the wait!
Kee Mao noodles were amazing! Definitely coming back for it soon
Overall the food was excellent and the service great. The house fried rice may have been our favorite followed by the pineapple curry. Next time we'll get the chicken dumplings steamed instead of fried. The place is small and casual, and if you're too close to the door on a cold night, keep your coat on!
The food was great - some of the best Thai I’ve had. The flavors came out perfectly and it was nice and spicey. We did however have reservations and still had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated. The air was also hard to breathe (dry, spices got into your throat easily) from not much air flow between the dining space and kitchen. Very reasonable prices!
Solid Thai food!
Highly recommended to anyone craving delicious Thai cuisine.
I was delighted by this Thai inspired eating experience located downtown Boston. The spices and flavors were extremely impressive. Do try their Pineapple Curry and Galangal Soup, they were in the summit of taste. Placing the order while waiting for a table was a smart idea to save time.
Cute small place, with decent Thai food. Loved the kee mao noodles, crispy rolls and Kapow fried dumplings.
The best home made Thai food in Boston
I am a regular here. Their food tastes consistently great and it is relatively affordable considering its central location. I haven’t had issues with staff either — they do their best to take in walk-in customers even when the restaurant is already busy.
There was one time when I got charged extra $4 without warning. I went a little after 4pm for late lunch and nowhere on the menu it mentioned that they charge $4 extra after certain hours for dinner. I learned this only after I paid and saw the receipt. There was one other time when I was disappointed with their mango salad (mango was too ripe and wasn’t julienned properly, and it had a lot of celery leaves that weren’t edible instead of celery stalks). Other than these two occasions, I am usually satisfied with their food. I recommend getting a reservation for group lunch.
This place was such a great find. We made reservations for 5:30 on a Friday night and we were glad we did, because after that, it became very very busy. House fried rice was so good and the masaman curry was delicious, both vegetarian. Their brown rice was really good, better than any I’ve ever had. The server seemed very vegan-aware also, as she asked me if egg and fish sauce were ok.
Amazingly fresh, hot and picture worthy as served. Absolutely best Thai we've ever had. We live 4 hours away and its worth the trip. Get the corn fritters, galangal soup as well as the green curry and seafood pad Thai 😋
Absolutely love this place for dine-in or takeout! Friendly service and delicious food. My personal favorites are the kapow dumplings, pineapple fried rice with beef and spicy noodle soup with chicken and egg noodles and short rib curry. Honestly, you can’t go wrong! Great bang for your buck too!
Went in without a reservation on Saturday evening and was seated immediately. The staff is friendly and attentive. Ordered corn cakes, veg basil fried rice, shrimp kee mao and homemade milo ice cream. The space is small but cozy. They have vegetarian options and can substitute meat in most dishes to make vegetarian.
It’s located in downtown Boston. My only complaint is that the bathroom was very dirty. Rest was good.
Corn cakes were amazing, sweet and tangy sauce. Curries were good too.
The Department of Medicine at Mass General Hospital places and receives a delivered order twice a month from Kala. This lunch feeds the Internal Medicine Residents and a few Harvard Medial Students (about 175 individuals). Kala is always on time, friendly, and communicates well! The delivery is well-packaged, which keeps the food fresh and easy to organize in buffet style. Kala delivered our Christmas meal for the first time this past year and the food left our on service teams feeling satisfied and cheerful! Thank you Chef Manita and Kala Team!
Great
Wow, nice hidden gem right in the thick of things in Bostons market area and govt center.
Food is special, great flavors and some unique grilled meat flavors that is not the run of the mill Thai restaurant.
They have a gluten free menu of noodles, rice and soups. We did not have a problem ordering a gluten free and nut sesame free lunch. They accommodated very easily.
Staff are nice and friendly and service is quick.
Excellent Thai food, best ever had.
Happy to see this place kept up the top notch quality. I'd come back to Boston just to eat here!
Everything just ok - nothing special tbh - I’ve had much better else where .
The restaurant should really invest in a curtain or second door to stop the cold weather blowing inside when the door keeps opening.
We’ve been going here for years and it is the best Thai food in Boston! Beef pad see ew is my favorite, along with pineapple fried rice. We also love the chicken wings as a starter and the galangal soup. You really can’t go wrong.
Everything was sweet/sugary
Place was extremely dirty. Ceiling filled with dust coming out of the AC unit, and falling down on the tables. Food had no taste whatsoever. We explained that we didn’t enjoy the food. All of the guests had only one bite of the meal and we all were charged full price. Never going back again.
Outstanding. Curries, soups, and appetizers are all excellent. Very reasonably priced.
Best Thai food in north east!!!
