Thai Sweet Basil at 209 N Main St in Andover, MA is really good. Iβd give it a 4.3-4-5 if the star system would let me. We went for the second time today and are happy to report it was as delicious as the first time. Our fish tamarind dish was lovely with brown rice, the beef pad Thai was tasty and the TSB platter for two was great, with the three dipping sauces! We both loved everything and are already looking forward to our next visit! There was delicate piano music playing in the background. The wait help was very nice and attentive. The atmosphere is very pleasant and you can almost always find parking. Itβs also easy access off route 495. They have won tons of awards, year after year and I can see why! My mouth is actually salivating as I write this. Weβll be back soon! ππ two tasty thumbs up!
This place has pretty good pad Thai food. Iβve had takeout from this place a few times and the portion sizes are enough for at least 2 meals. This was my first time eating in and the environment and staff were very friendly. We got the appetizer sampler and I really enjoyed the chicken, dumplings and the shrimp egg roll. Will definitely continue to make this one of my rotating spots when visiting
We sat in to eat and ordered family style. Food came out in a timely manner and tasted pretty good. The tamarin duck was crispy and tasteful but a bit on the drier side, overall would recommend. The chicken tom yum soup was delicious, hot, and came with lots of chicken and mushrooms - would also recommend. Service was over all fair. However, be aware they charge a service fee and might add on tip (they informed us about neither). No pictures of food was taken because we went with guests though picture of receipt added to show the service fee and tip - again, LOOK AT YOUR CHECK to make sure you aren't unknowingly double tipping.
I hate to give a bad review, and I rarely do. We used to come here almost every month. The service was slow, so we ordered takeout to avoid all of us sitting waiting for food. Over time, we hardly ever did that anymore.
Takeout on the phone, they would tell us it would be half an hour, and then it would end up being an hour or more.
Today, I thought they would be slow with the snow and they were so I gave it another try after months of not going. there were only 2 small parties in the restaurant. We ordered when they first opened, and another gentleman waited for takeout in the same timeframe. It's too bad the food is good, but the hour-long wait for food makes lunch impossible. We called in the order, and yet there is a fee. They don't disclose the mysterious 3 % transaction fee on a phone order. Such a shame we used to love this place.
I miss physically going into work because of this restaurant. I used to eat here every week. Tried almost everything on their menu and they're all done to perfection! My favorite and go to dish is their crazy noodles. They do them the best and trust me, I try it at every Thai restaurant I go to, just to compare. You must try this restaurant you will not be disappointed. Please note their lunch menu is cheaper than their dinner menu. The restaurant is clean and the employees are all very friendly and professional. Plenty of parking!
Beware :
Thai Sweet Basil - Andover is charging 3% service fees on take out. There was no mention while ordering nor anything posted in rest. While picking up.
When i called after i saw reaching at home the receipt she had no answer on why 3%.service fee was charged. So just letting everyone know to check their receipts for take out of going there . Just putting in charge to get extra money with no explanation.
Never again.

You are never rushed out the door. Linger over your meal and enjoy polite and kind service.

Ordered at 6pm. Itβs now 7:30 and no orders are coming out.

Staff are always welcoming and attentive. The food is great!
Varying quality of the dishes. Bangkok dice were burned to a crisp. Crispy noodles were dry and flavorless. Pad Thai and Yellow Curry were excellent.

What would have made the service better was if the door dash or whatever app was not beeping in the background for a long time. Maybe placing that tablet in the kitchen would be better?
If you are looking for slap you in the face flavor this may not be the spot. I recently tried their pad thais, it was a lot of food for a fair price, but it was a very mild flavor. MID! I will be hunting around for some other thai places but this could be a contender for a new staple in my carry out rotation
Just had yet another lovely dinner at Thai Sweet Basil. Our wait person was so lovely, And our food absolutely delicious. Itβs great for takeout too - a local gem for sure.
Great food and service! Fresh ingredients and flexibility with seasoning (increase or decrease spicy level).
Edit #1:
There appears to be a change in staff. Even though weβve been loyal customers for well over 10 years, lately we do take out only. This past week decided to dine in and didnβt see any of our previously familiar faces which was sad but it didnβt take away from the great service and consistency in their food (I might dare say portions are bigger). Favorite spot near home to dine in!
Edit #2:
Very difficult to be understanding of online order not made as requested but when an item is not included in the order AND they were rude during check in, it makes it even worse. Barely an apology when going back to pick up missing item (we donβt live that close). So disappointing :-(
I had not been here in several years. It was a great way to return. The service was quick and friendly and the Massaman Curry and coconut soup were fantastic.
I just ordered a mango fried rice from this place. And let me tell you, it was the worst 25 dollars spent in 2024. The quality of the rice was horrendous, the carrots:? Well youll need a scanning electron microscope to be able to observe its presence. This experience only gives me the motivation to get the recipe online and start cooking my own freaking thailand food, straight facts homey!!!!!
I was introduced to mango sweet rice and Thai Sweet Basil has the best!! Their crab rangoons are also very tasty as well as their thai tea. I will be coming here often :)
I got the Siam fried rice which was a little bland, but still tasted good. Fairly big portions and reasonably priced. Staff were friendly
Boyfriend and I stopped by for a quick lunch and were very happy with our decision. Food was outstanding (we got crazy noodles and beef w/broc)! Service was quick and friendly. Highly recommend this spot
has been a local favorite for years but in the last year or two they seem to be always behind the 8-ball and sometimes the Pad Thai comes out very oily. They are now combined with Gati Thai so not sure how that will bode for consistency. I give it a 4 star overall since prices are fair and food is pretty good but I feel like they are trending down.
If I could , would give negative rating. Terrible delivery service. Food never arrived. Bunch of thieves. Will stop ordering and going there from now on. Please avoid this place
Ordered take out and was told it would be 40 minutes. Almost 2 hours later it was not ready and staff were rude and gave no updates
It is a very small and intimate place. I was there with 2 other friends. It was my first time at a Thai restaurant and I was expecting π₯ food. However the food was good and dishes that were very hot had a symbol of a pepper. I was also told I could order with less heat if I wanted.
Quality of the food is best around
Not good service not good food. Lots of eats in North Andover in 100x better
I hadn't been here in quite a few years. I think they changed owners a couple of years ago and it's not the same. I ordered Pad see you and the noodles were really overcooked and a very small portion. My waitress was not very attentive, she never came over to see if I wanted anything or to see if I was happy with my dinner. I don't think I will be coming back here anytime soon.
Must have changed owners. Service was terrible and foot smelled like it had freezer burn. Woman at front counter was rude. She was entering something in the register and said to me "customers come first" but not in a good way. She meant I am not important and what she was doing superceded me trying to be seated. Meanwhile 2 other employees (not doing anything) saw me and did not offer to seat me. The restaurant had only 2 or 3 tables occupied. Not busy.
I had been going to this establishment for a decade prior to this incident. It used to be friendly, good food good service. Not anymore.
By far the WORST service of any restaurant I have been to. We ordered online and our food did not arrive for TWO HOURS. When we called the restaurant they wouldnβt issue any kind of refund, could not give us any estimated time on our order, and wouldnβt even let us speak to the manager. I have never ordered from a less competent restaurant.
Delicious entrees and welcoming staff. We had a lovely experience!
Food is very good. This is offset by high variability in wait times, sometimes as long as an hour and half. Very poor communication from staff on wait times, and when I finally got my order the lady didn't believe me and wanted to confirm my last name. I don't plan on going back soon.
Service is slow but under staffed. I ordered Crazy Noodles and calamari. Crazy came out first. I asked what happened to the calamari when I was almost done with the noodles. They said they forgot to place the order. Then within a minute they brought it out. It was cold. Very disappointing. I should have asked them to cancel it. Crazy Noodles was hot but too safety. I wonβt be back.
Gteat food. Great value for money.
12/13/23 EDIT: Updated back to 5 stars. We had some friends bring us Thai food for dinner one night and it was DELISH. We asked where it was from and they said Thai Sweet Basil. So a few weeks later we decided to give them a second try. Mama! The dolls are back baby!! They either had an off night before, or got a new chef. The Drunken/Crazy Noodles are INCREDIBLE. No more soupy Pad Thai. We are thrilled!
2/10/23 EDIT: See original 5 star review below from a couple years ago. But now, it's 2 stars. We returned after a few years and were greatly disappointed. The "perfect char" from the past was gone. Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles were now almost soupy. Too saucy and zero char on both dishes. I guess they changed recipes or chefs?
Some of the best Thai food ever. Drunken (crazy) Noodles are THE BEST. Perfect char, perfect veg. We probably order from here 2 or 3 times a month. Friendly staff and surprisingly lovely interior inside the restaurant. Nice place for a banquet or something.
The food is Soo good
Food is always amazing. Lately the service not so much. Not sure whatβs been going on but if you enjoy Thai food they have the best chicken pad Thai maybe just order for pick up considering their customer service skills are lacking. Food 5/5 service 3/5?
The food here is really good.
Love the food. Although the service is slow and ambience is OK, I would still rate this place 5 stars for the quality of food.
This is prob one of my favorite spots to eat when I want to treat myself I love their yellow curry and shrimp rolls they are really good I order it every single time the only reason it's a 4 star is because on delivery it's pretty expensive
Very much enjoyed our meal, service, and experience at Thai Sweet Basil and it is definitely a favorite Thai restaurant for the area!
Went for a quick lunch with family great food and lovely atmosphere. Had the shrimp fried rice, chili shrimp was delicious. Would recommend if you are in the area.
This used to be my favorite Thai restaurant. While my most recent visit was still good, it seems that it's under new management -- several of the favorites are no longer on the menu, and there's a 3% "service fee." When we asked about the fee, they essentially said the prices on the menu went up but they didn't want to reprint the menu. (!)
The food was delicious, but I ordered pick-up and waited for more than 50 minutes. (They said it would be ready within 30). Depends on how eager you have to eat here, if you are in a rush, don't bother. If you have all the time in the world, the food might be worth it.
The food is to die for. We travel 1.5 hours round trip just to get it
Service is so bad. Charged me tax during the tax free weekend while other restaurants didn't. Didn't give me receipt at all. To-go box didn't shown anything about price. They charged service fees but didn't tell me how much. I asked for no-rice but was charged for rice.
Get the cashew chicken with a side of rice! Delicious.
The peanuts on my chicken pad Thai were so finely ground that they added no crunch, the sprouts were soft and the consistency of the noodles and everything was just sweet - no flavor. The rice in the fried rice seemed undercooked yet had a slight burnt flavor. One of the poorest Thai food experiences. A disappointment.
We love the crab rangoons and fried rice always fresh and delicious
Shumai is out of this world π so soft and delicious it almost feels like pure silk...... I also accompanied it with spicy beef and vegetables plus white rice crwated an explotion of flavors in my mouth was purely heaven..... to finish it off I acquired a Thai ice tea ..... pretty much I had a food coma ...... thanks to Noi for the accommodations and service you're amazing
The food is standard. Prices are quite expensive. Not worth the money you spend for food here. Service also not good.
I have a serious allergy to non-spicy food. They went above and beyond to accommodate my needs. Thanks all!
Great food tried Crazy Noodles it was outstanding!!
Excellent service. Clean and bright interior. Curry dishes were excellent. You can adjust the level of spice in each dish. My appetizer platter was very tasty, featuring traditional Asian potstickers, shrimp rolls, Satay chicken skewers and more.
Consistently fresh excellent food! Been here many times. Love everything!
I canβt get enough. I have kidney stones and their selection for me was so perfect. The food was so delicious and the staff so attentive. Will continue going!!!
Great noodles and my wife had pad Thai. We both loved our dinner!
They have great Thai dishes and their teas are to die for
one star to get your attention. 3 strikes! The first time you forgot the broth for the noodle soup & I had to drive back for it, 2nd time you forgot the shrimp in a blanket, I decided it wasn't worth going back and my food getting cold. But the 3rd strike, tonight, not only did I have to wait an extra 20 minutes for my food but the food was terrible. The basil fried rice had an over cooked egg with overcooked tasteless rice and NO basil. I am so disappointed because we use to go here all the time, but no more.
Food was amazing will definitely be back
Lovely staff and delicious Thai food. The crazy noodles are my favorite. Peaceful ambiance and fresh flowers for every table.
I had a coconut chicken soup that was awesome and also a noodle with chicken. The chicken noodle portion was a lot of food.
Excellent food and service. I find the dishes have a nice level of spice.

My absolute favorite Thai restaurant! I have come back from Florida and Connecticut to eat their food. Such gracious service!
A family favorite. Food is good for the value. Take out can be hit or miss.
Latest frustration was an hour wait for take-out. I get it, some nights are busy and short staffing can exacerbate the delay. But tell me up front "we messed up, we forgot your order", Tell me the truth instead of repeatedly " few more minutes" so I can use the time to do the 3+ other things on my honey-todo list. A customers time deserves more respect than their money. Next time, I won't pay until I have order in hand.
This place is simply superb. It was good the first time, but more importantly EVERY time I go there it is exactly the same. Excellent.
Food was good for what we got. We ordered 2 dishes which cost me $35., and while the rice portion was adequate, the appetizers were disappointing. Barely enough to feed my husband and I who are not big eaters. Too bad. If you are looking to feed a family, you will pay a fortune here to satisfy their hunger.
It is excellent value for money, likely the best in town, and what I like is that it is very quiet. The best place to have a nice meal and conversation.
I usually donβt give negative reviews but couldnβt stop myself from giving this one. My daughter wanted to have Thai food & was excited to go to Sweet thai basil. We ordered noodles for her but they were very spicy & hot. I very politely expressed that I will get it boxed but requested for a new one. The server & then the manager/owner came to the table & told me very rudely that it will take 40-45 mins to make a new one. Seriously?? As my daughter was hungry, She agreed to get simple fried rice with eggs which she could only eat two spoons of. My kid liked the crab rangoons so giving one star otherwise they donβt deserve it. Highly dissappointed with their service & attitude towards customers. I hope that they take feedbacks & work on them.
Just when we thought their food couldnβt get any better, Thai Sweet Basil surpassed even themselves! Always delicious! Consistency is their secret. Never a bad meal or experience. We had the Shrimp Himmapan with brown rice and Pad Thai w/shrimp. Both were spectacular! If you havenβt tried Thai Sweet Basil, you have to! If you havenβt been there in a while, you have to go back! We will be back very soon for sure!
We've been coming to this restaurant for over 5 years now, and it's still always a treat.
Great food at a great price. Portions were huge and the price was fair.
Food was great but be aware that it's beer and wine only. Portion sizes were great I would suggest the Pineapple rice
I was served a really badly smelling calamari as part of sea food pad Thai, they were completely spoiled. I cook myself a lot and I would never miss an ingredient that smells bad, especially sea food. If they missed something terribly smelly like those calamari in that kitchen, what else there can go wrong? Probably anything:(
This place will always have a special place in my heart because I tried thai food for the first time ever here. It's still a great place with good food over 10 years later.
I ordered the squid, veggies and noodles meal for almost 20$. They gave my 2 shrimp, 3 scallops and the meal didn't even come close to the top of the container. I frequently order thr pad Thai w shrimp and chicken and i make 2 meals out of it. That costs 16$ and worth it. My problem is when I caller to question them, she basically told me "that's how it is".
Sweet Basil WAS the go-to for my wife and I when we felt the need for a night off from the kitchen and still maintain a quality meal. Unfortunately, this will no longer be an establishment that will receive my familyβs patronage.
We ordered simple this evening, our meals consisting of a couple soups and a pineapple fried rice dish; as always substituting the shrimp with additional portion of chicken due to my shellfish allergy. Ordering via an app the experience was as to be expectedβ¦. Once I went to the restaurant my usual excellent experience in customer service and culinary flavor was ruined by a single employee (truly hope not anyone in management or ownership). Due to a mistake in preparation the last time we ordered I checked the meals prior to leaving the establishment. The hostess having no idea that there were special requests for my main meal made me question if I had received the food as requested and paid for in advance. Typically the pineapple fried rice comes with both chicken and shrimp with a healthy helping of mixed vegetables and chunks of delicious pineapples; I requested they replace my shrimp portion with chicken and I added a beef portion as well- making my single portion of a fried rice dish approximately $20. I have every right to inspect my food at any restaurant at any time, especially when a prior ingredient could send me to the hospital fighting to breathe and for my life. I could immediately tell the front desk girl didnβt see the situation from my perspectiveβ¦ she emphatically told me there was a double portion of chicken- she was 110% sure, no reason to go through my food. Seeing the restaurant had a total of two guests and one other bag of takeout prepared I informed her I would be checking all the dishes because how was she sure there was double chicken if she only a second ago had no clue about the shellfish allergy and substitutionβ¦. UGLINESS ENSUED. The angry and scorned hostess tried to literally stop me from checking twice as I calmly explained the basis for my mistrust in her; all the while her attitude was expressed through eye rolls and Snydeunder her breathe comments in a foreign language.
ALL THIS OVER A SINGLE PORTION OF MISSING CHICKEN⦠or so I thought. The rice dish had a healthy helping of both veggies, pineapple, and beef ($4 add on)⦠BUT IT HAD LITERALLY 1.5 to 1.75 pieces of shredded looking white chicken meat. According to the hostess this was guaranteed checked and verified double portion.
I proceeded to show the hostess her mistake and the kitchen graciously admitted and made additional chicken.
For one last spiteful deed the hostess removed portions of the beef into the trash to make room for the chicken. This representative of the restaurant failed as a human being, she should be embarrassed of herself as she turned her nose up and basically threw the dish back at me in a to-go container and scurried into the back of the establishment.
Shame on you. You ruined an event my wife and I enjoyed over less than a dollar of chicken and massively excessive ego.
Food was good, ordered ahead and still waited 45 minutes when I got there
Very good Thai food
Horrendous service. Ordered dinner for delivery, it took two hours and is 1.1 miles away. Called the restaurant 15 times with absolutely no response and was charged $100+ for food I never received.
Used to really like this place. Those days are gone. Unfortunately, we won't be back.
delicious food
Great food and place
amazing staff & amazing food. wait time is quick and the ambiance is great. i love this place w all my heart & will be returning soon.
The atmosphere was great. I ordered fried rice but it wasnβt that good. Great service though
Excellent Thai food!
Delicious food. Always fresh ingredients..
The food was very tasty; I had tofu in curry with peanuts, and I enjoyed it a lot. $13 for a very filling vegetarian meal, and I have leftovers for later, too. Very nice vibe in there with fish near the entrance and art on the wall. The service was good, too; our waiter refilled our water frequently, which was convenient, and she was very polite. Would eat here again
Very tasty meals
Excellent quality; food and service.
Ordered take out, waited 2 HOURS for delivery. Pad Thai was dry.
The Chicken was fresh. But it vastly lacked flavor. The dessert was fine.
They have a delicous Tom Yam soup
Awful service and no cordiality. Don't ever even try ordering your takeout here. They underestimate the waiting time and couldn't care less that 5 to 6 customers, complaining like me, have all been waiting over 25 minutes. It is pre-Thanksgiving night and we understand it is unusual times, with labor shortage, large orders etc.... but they could value customers' time and make better estimates. They could also be nicer to BOTH dine-in and and take-out customers. It is not a new business and this has been its perennial pattern. If all you want is delicious food, there are much better choices nearby. Fooled twice, shame on me - a mistake that I even gave it another chance tonight, after being turned off by their persistent arrogance years ago. BTW, food was NOT as good as most reviews said. Only average, and sticky rice was actually horrible - wrapped in Saran wrap and frozen for too long. After they microwaved it [without removing the wrap], you can imagine how it tastes. Inside Luke warm and hardened, outside was stuck to and perhaps contaminated by whatever chemicals leaking from wrap to overheated sticky rice too. Cheap and profitable for the owner, no style and awful taste to consumers at best.
Favorite place to go with my niece
I bought some sticky rice and mango, I paid
$8.00 and I got less than a scoop of rice and 3 pieces of mango. You guys have to do better than this. Unacceptable.
Great food, very tasty and nicely arranged.
Quick and friendly service.
Best Thai food in the area. Authentic and flavorful. They donβt shy away from making dishes actually spicy. Service is always great!
Best Thai food in the Merrimack area!!! Keep making fresh food, the food is always amazing!!! This is my second review of this place. I wish I could give 10 stars!! We eat at this place often! The lady who answers the phone is always so sweet. I always order vegetable or chicken basil with brown rice. My husband loves the shrimp basil. I LOVEEEE the fried spring roll. The sweet n sour sauce is to die for!! I just tried the fresh basil rolls. Another AMAZING item. Those were so delicious!! Keep up the great work!!! I will continue coming here.
The food here is out of this world! You can tell they use high quality ingredients, there is so much flavor in everything they make. I wish I could eat here every night! The crazy noodles are the best.
Dumplings were amazing! Freshly made with amazing sauce. Thai salad was delicious as well. Will be back next time we're in the Boston area!
We stop here anytime we are in the area. Food is always fantastic and staff is friendly! We usually order to eat in, and make another order to go! Highly recommended!
Thia Sweet Basil is a comfortably cozy space that has become our "Go to" destination when we want a nice meal with excellent service, all at a most reasonable price. The staff are helpful and accomodating, and the meals tastey.
Always good!
Love their food !! π
Daily customer and they have some great food options. I would recommend the chicken yum yum and the wonton soup, but you can't really go wrong with any of their options.
Great place, food is excellent
Very warm and friendly staff. Delicious food! The calamari & spring rolls were cooked to perfection. Would come here again.
Awesome as usual. Best thai food we've ever had. Everything on the menu is great.
due to the pick up order, bad customer service & my order ( $80) missed up other items, missing few items. after I picked up the order and I found that missing items and I ordered coconut milk dishes but looks like watery (not good quality dish)
Paper menus are there to dispose of after a customer looks and orders from them. waitress folded them up and put them back at front desk where your menus are picked up and given to the customers. Thinking they are not taking covid seriously. They should be shut down, only my opinion
Another good meal there. Meals are mildly spiced compared to Thailand. But still very good. Definitely worth eating at.
I love the food here but I made the mistake of ordering on a weekend night. I ordered at 5:30 pm and it took over 75 min. to get it. Over 30 min after promised. I ordered on Uber Eats and it said it to call the restaurant. I couldnβt get through. Just busy signal after busy signal. Then once the food came it was cold and I had to reheat it in the microwave. I want to support locally but this isnβt the first time the delivery has been horrendous on a weekend. I wonβt be ordering again.
good food and good price
I had an issue with delivery and owner went out of his way to get in touch with me and resolve. In my opinion he went above and beyond, he listened to what I had to say and we talked through ideas to remedy for future customers.
Once the issue was fixed we were able to enjoy a great meal. The food arrived hot and well packaged. The pad Thai and basil fried rice were delicious.
This is exactly the type of place we should all be supporting during these times.
Iβd give 6 starts if I could for both food and service. Kudos.
Crazy noodle dish and Thai iced tea. Yummy.
Excellent food and service, as always!
The food and the service was ok. I tried to ask questions about the food to the lady taking the order and she was very rude. She was speaking in her language with another worker and laughing after I was asking questions. They really need to work on their customer service.
Always fresh, balanced, consistent. Friendly and prompt service. Love the curries, pad thai, tom ka gai, macadamia beef.
Enjoyed the green chicken curry.
Great food, easy to order and pickup
Thai Sweet Basil makes great quality food. We particularly enjoyed the spring rolls and sweet + sour dipping sauce. I also remember trying yummy fried ice cream for the first time here. Great thai place for when you're around the Andover area!
Fantastic authentic thai food. I will definitely come here again! The staff is extremely friendly tooπ
Open during quarantine for takeout. Ordered three lunch entrees, were ready in about 20 minutes. The cashew and mushroom entree and the mango curry were our favorites. Will be returning - good and reasonably priced!
20$ minimum delivery and 4$ delivery charge? It took about 45 minutes to get here.
Food was subpar. Crab Rangoon tasted like it had been sitting around for a bit or was refried. Pad thai was just okay.
I expected more freshness but oh well
The best Thai food Iβve ever had itβs so fresh and the staff is beyond nice and itβs Extremely clean. They play good music everyone is happy and the food is beyond AMAZING
Have been coming here for years. Periodic small changes to the menu, but always delicious. The people are nice, the food quality is high.
Great food great service.
If you're in the area and like Thai food, this is the place to go. Every time we're in Massachusetts, it's a must. Very Best Crab Ragoon anywhere!π
Customer service is not great. Slow service. Food is consistently decent
