The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and the live music on Fridays made the experience even better. The staff were incredibly friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. If you’re in the area and love Thai food (or sushi), you’ve got to check this place out. I’ll definitely be coming back!

This crab fried rice is the worst I've ever had. I paid extra for shrimp, but all I got were three small cocktail shrimp that I had to cut up to add to the dish. The vegetables taste like canned vegetables with no rinse. There's no flavor, and the crab meat resembles thin threads that are few and far between. To give it some flavor, I added leftover steak and cheese and three packs of soy sauce. The shrimp and crab are overcooked, dried out, and nasty.

Today, we placed an order for sticky rice and as you can see by the photos below, the sticky rice we were given was moldy. I called the establishment to alert them of this issue and I was informed that they prepare the sticky rice in advance once per week and go through it to make sure they’re not giving moldy food to their customers. I am extremely disappointed as this is one of the few authentic Asian eateries located in La Plata. I will not be returning to this restaurant as I am now worried about the other dishes being prepared here.

I called in a salmon dish and the basil crispy duck at 2:15pm which is considered lunchtime on their menu. I was charged $43.00, when I inquired I was told that because I did not say this was off the lunch menu, I was charged an extra $5.00. Highway robbery, the lunch times are clearly stated when do I or any patron have to say lunch when it was 2:15pm. I will not be going back, truly disappointed.

I’m not a local, nor do I live in Maryland but happened to be in the area and really wanted some Thai food. I used google maps and it lead me to this amazing hidden gem. I placed an order for multiple items and I was not disappointed. The Larb Gai was so flavorful, so was the crabmeat fried rice. I loved the crunch on the wrapped shrimp and spring rolls but they had my favorite Thai dish that is hard to find at most places the Pad Woon Sen, it was so delicious. I’d definitely go back whenever I come back up. Thank you for the delicious food.

I took my mom there for dinner this past week. I had the Drunken Noodles (Medium) and ordered the Amazing Roll. Both were good dishes but nothing super exceptional.

Came in on August 11, 2024 to order carryout. I understand being busy, but everyone was acknowledged when walking through the door while I stood for at least 30 minutes with no acknowledgement at all. I've been here many times before, so this is not the norm here.

My sister, her 2 adult sons, and I were looking for a place to grab lunch on the way back to SoMD from VA today and man did we hit the jackpot! There was only one waitress, Jenna was her name (I was so impressed by her that i asked), and it was slammed in there. I was initially worried that we'd get poor service with the lunch crowd and lack of staff. But holy cow, she was amazing and handled everything with amazing poise and grace! The food was amazing. I had green curry, the boys had chicken fried rice, and my sister had something I can't remember... we were all very happy with the food. We also had the calamari appetizer... delicious! 11 out of 10!

Perhaps a sign I hadn't noticed, though I think new, paraphrased; " You have to ask ; for napkins, forks, sauces". Again left a 20% for Carryout.
I DID ask for Fish Sauce, Hot Pepper Sauce, Napkins and Forks. IN my Carryout, received 2 napkins, 2 forks, 1 Fish Sauce no hot sauce.
Just my thoughts; if your business receives 20% tip for Carryout would you not want to encourage them to come back?
Kaow Thai, you will never have to worry about me asking for a "napkin" or any condiments, which most all other Establishments provide without asking, especially with their "generous"customers?

Never got served. One woman was rending bar and waiting tables. Seems like they are understaffed. I wouldn’t leave a negative review, but the woman working was chatting with the people at the bar and doing sidework instead of taking our order, making us wait and wait. We gave up and left.

I first visited Kaow more than 7 years ago and I was not disappointed. The food was outstanding, plentiful and perfectly seasoned, plentiful. Service was fast and wait time was fast; especially because l ordered several appetizers and entrées.

Tried take out, very polite and genial staff, the food was quite good. Entrees are in the $15 range. Note the rice side is in a smaller container than most Asian take-outs, so you might want to order more. I'd try again on next travel through area.

Rich, complex flavors with balanced heat/spice. I ordered it with mixed vegetables (no tofu) and they assortment was varied and fresh. Mushrooms, asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers, onion, snow peas, and green beans. The noodles were fresh and not clumped together like many places serve. Nice sized portion and reasonably priced.
I wish I lived closer. Sadly, I’m an hour away. Periodic road trips will be necessary.

It's not a bad spot at all. I stopped in for a quick lunch. It wasn't very full, comma the service was quick period I had drunken noodles.
With with tofu. I'm not that big on tofu but I decided to do something different. The food was good.

Ordered the Thai shrimp rolls wrapped in rice paper with fresh vegetables. My wife almost threw up in front of me as soon as she bit into it. I’ll admit the rice papers look like condoms and it’s not something we are used to but the small amounts of shrimp had a terrible odor. We sent it back and they took it off the bill so we were okay with it and thank God I didn’t get sick after swallowing half a bite before spitting mine out too. The hot chicken noodle dish was good.

When they 1st opened food was great but quality of food has dropped to less than 1 star.
I'll move Star up to a 3. Their Service was always good.

They have gluten free soy sauce and notated gluten free for me all over. I highly recommend this place and next time I'm in town I'll be back! **I had to edit this a few hours after posting because my wife got violently ill after eating some of the food. Should be a negative star and I’ll be fighting the PayPal charge tomorrow for sure!!**

I’ve eaten from here quite a few times but the last two times were really gross. I tried again today to give it a second chance because I really wanted some Thai food and was hoping the last experience was a fluke. It just tasted old, like really old. The food had kind of a gray hint to it and the broth tasted kind of rancid. It all ended up in the trash. Would not recommend as of July 2023. Two years ago it was fantastic but now I would be worried about getting sick.

I was allowed in a little early rather than wait out in the heat. Service was attentive but not hovering. Food was delicious. Atmosphere was pleasant.

It doesn't look like much from the outside. Once you walk in its a nice cozy restaurant! It smelled so good once we came in. The service was fast and good. We ordered papaya salad, chicken satay, three different sushi rolls, thai fried rice and thai iced tea. We'll come back for drinks another time - their alcoholic drink menu was appealing and a great bargain.

Kind of disappointed today with kaow. Been eating from here for a while and I can honestly say today was not a good day. I ordered the curry and coconut milk chicken with veggies as I'm eating I notice a strange texture to the chicken so after about 2 peices I look to see that it is still raw🤢🤮. So now after eating the veggies I'm thinking that's all I need this weekend is to be home bound sick. Really am disappointed!

I had my hopes up with the high reviews but takeout-wise, I would not order again. By the time my food was taken home, the Papaya Salad leaked all throughout the plastic bag and the mango & sticky rice was missing completely. The inari sushi was more sour than expected and rather small. It might be better to dine-in but this definitely discourages me to even try eating there.

The food is okay. Pineapple fried rice has 2 pieces of shrimp and 3 pieces of pineapple.

Both my wife and I are very peculiar in respect to Thai food. Not only that we get our favorite foods exquisitely prepared (including the best pork we ever sampled) but the service is great and the wait staff remembers our quirks and really cares. Moreover, since it looks to be a family busimess with some well chosen hired helpers, it is not unusual for one of the chefs to bring the food to the table and inquire about our experience. Although usually there are many customers in, tje redtaurant os big enough so we never had to wait for a table. All in all, the place to go for really good food of the Thai persuasion doubled by a general good feeling experience.

On Friday, the 28th of October 2022, I picked up 178.00 worth of food. I've been here many times before and the food and service are usually very good. This time however, one of my family's favorite appetizers, the fried calimari was not a Thai version. It was closer to the kind you get from an Italian restaurant. The sushi was dark and hardly edible. Half of the rice containers were only halfway filled. I ordered the whole fried fish (seabass) and only got a small container of spicy sauce. I haven't even looked at the fish yet. The soup, creamy curry based lemongrass had almost no flavor. I think my family and I will be getting our Thai food from our very favorite place, a little farther down the road from now on. Very very disappointed in the SUSHI and FRIED CALIMARI. Bangkok Golden down 210 highway in Fort Washington/Oxon Hill much > this nonsense.

i usually get my thai from an award winning restaurant in DC. my first time here today and i was not impressed.

before i even tasted my food (tofu pad thai and shrimp pad see ew) there were two issues with my order. i asked for no peanuts on the pad thai, and had to wait for them to redo my order without them - i guess they forgot. for the pad see ew, they didn't have the wide noodles and never mentioned anything until i asked why it was made with the same noodles as the pad thai. the pad see ew came with 4 (four) small shrimp. wow

i got medium spice for both dishes and the flavor was lacking. not completely bland but nothing spectacular. both dishes were kind of dry. probably wont come here again

Great Thai place for the area. Pad Kra Pow, Pad Khing and Crispy Duck is excellent. The duck actually comes out crispy, not wet and mushy. Green Curry and Shrimp Choo Chee is also great options. If your not in the mood, Sushi here is also good. Kyow krob and curry puffs make great appetizers.

They used to make the best drunken noodles, I ordered from here tonight and it was like they prepared it for an infant. 0 spice. Even the Thai Iced tea tasted like water and milk as if they were conserving tea bags. Wasted my money.

The food safety practices and customer service here are awful.

My husband and I regularly order from this restaurant — the same take out order every time. For some reason this time our food was ridiculously spicy (and we can handle spice — but this was insane) and we did not request our food to be spicy.

My husband calls the restaurant asking if our food could be remade and they requested that we BRING THE FOOD BACK TO THE RESTAURANT. mind you we’ve already thrown it away. They keep asking us to take it out of the trash can and bring it back to the restaurant.

Why? They wanted to taste it to verify that it was spicy. What in the world!? We state over and over that it’s unsanitary for multiple reasons but particularly because our sons diapers are in that same trash. Per their request we get the food out of the trash can bring it to them only for them to give us the SAME FOOD in a new container and with new sprouts on top. This was the most ridiculous customer service experience I’ve ever had.

Crabmeat fried rice (not pictured) was delicious. It came with a few shrimp on top. Egg wasn’t thoroughly distributed, most of It was on top. A bit over priced, you couldn’t tell if it was egg or crab meat. Hint: it was egg. Crab meat was quite hidden. $19.95

Pad Thai was a bit sweeter than what I was used to. Noodles were overly saturated in sauce. Wasn’t a fan. Lunch portion $8.50 (+$1.45 for shrimp)

A wonderful little Thai restaurant that's worth the venture every time. You will always get your money's worth of food at a reasonable price, and I have yet to have a meal that wasn't rich in flavor. This is an excellent place for vegetarians because almost all of their standard dishes can be made with tofu or with additional vegetables in place of meat or seafood.

The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a well kept bar and a corner set aside for local musicians to perform.

Don't forget to save room for dessert, by the way! I can personally recommend both the fried banana & ice cream, and the mango custard cake. My grandmother always saves room for the mango & sticky rice, in case you wanted an opinion on that as well.

Husband and I go here often. The food and sushi is very good, however, I'm giving a one star because of the customer service we received today. The guy that worked the bar during lunch time was very rude and unprofessional. So bad that we walked out. Ask to speak with the manager and he said he was in charge. Terrible!!!!

The best Thai food I've ever had in my life. You won't be disappointed in your meal, the food taste authentic and the restaurant is always clean and the service is always top notch. I go there so much they know me by name and what I like to order.

Went here for the first time today. Food was very fresh and delicious. Definitely the best Thai food I've had in years. I'd recommend the pad see ew. It was wonderful!

Never had an issue before....but the food is pretty good. Not sure it's worth being embarrassed like that.

The food is always great! We call and place a order for pick up about once a month. Our order is always accurate, hot and most important, delicious when we get it home.

Tropical Sushi Rolls are the best especially with the spicy mayo. Service is excellent.

I placed an order for crab fried rice. This is the only dish I order with the exception of the spring rolls. When. I got back home there was no crab only shrimp and egg. The restaurant argued with me that there was crab as opposed to trying to correct the order. That is not good customer service.

They were nice when I left my wallet but I waited an hour for my order when I ordered was told 20 minutes got there and my food was not ready. They were nice about it was just frustrating seeing as my daughter was waiting in the cat.

This place was clean the staff was sweet and the food amazing...I had took my girlfriend for her 1st experience at Thai and she has falling in love 😍. And she is a very picky eater. Not many ppl was here so I am not sure why but I was okay with that since covid is real... we dine in and was seated apart for the other party that was there. I think this maybe a hidden gem 💎

Food was delicious. Plenty is space between tables and not crowded. We will go back to try some other menu items. I had the thai roasted chicken with sticky rice and papaya salad and loved it!

My sushi roll was falling apart and the rice was mushy, but the inside contents were good.

My dad lives in Thailand and has for the last 20 years and I visit him quite often. I know what authentic Thai food taste like and Kao Thai is one of the most authentic Thai food experiences I've had and the area. I highly recommend giving them a try if you're looking for a real authentic Thai food. They also have a friendly staff and a very nice environment.

I've have 2 meals in the past 2 weeks from Kaow Thai. They have definitely won me over. The staff is exceptionally friendly, the food flavorful and fresh. I've had the Tropical and Amazing rolls and the Lo Mein and Floating Market Noodle Soup. The lo mein was the best we've ever had, with fresh sauce and veggies. The floating market soup was incredibly flavorful, while still not being too off center for me (picky eater). Each Noodle dish was enough for 2 meals for me and 2 toddlers. I had a question about the grubhub charge and the receptionist happily answered it. Can't believe we've lived here for 5 years and just now trying this restaurant, don't wait!

My family and I love kaow thai ever since they opened. They have a wonderful family atmosphere and the food is amazing.

The lunch special is pretty generous and was still piping hot by the time I got it home. Definitely fresh and very good! They're doing takeout only right now through the window in their foyer. Quick and easy.

This place is a hidden Gem, and the food is really good and fresh! They only do take out right now, but I can only imagine how good the food is fresh from the kitchen to your table. It was my first time, but I’m glad I stopped in. Try them out they’re pretty good! I will return. :-)

Edit: Originally I gave 5 stars. I took one star away due to the fact they used concentrated lime juice (Bottled) in their Papaya Salad a big NO-NO! The presentation was nice, but the flavor was overly bitter, and acidic not the taste I was expecting, or accustomed to. Luckily I had palm sugar at home to Sweeten it up a little. I would highly recommend they use fresh limes going forward. A slight disappointment there but will still return.
