Saap Thai Kitchen in South San Francisco was a huge letdown. Here's why it gets only 1 star.
Service with a Snail's Pace: The service was incredibly slow and inattentive. We were in a small indoor space, so it shouldn't have been hard to get the staff's attention. However, it took a frustrating 10 minutes to flag them down after finding a hair in the soup! Even worse, the restaurant wasn't even busy. On top of that, my Thai iced tea (which should have come out quickly) arrived after the food, and only after I reminded them about the order.
Chicken Pad Kee Mao Mystery: My chicken pad kee mao came with a measly 5 tiny pieces of chicken. There were no vegetables to speak of, just 2-3 cold red bell peppers thrown in for good measure. It lacked any spice whatsoever, and only the chili sauce saved it from being completely bland.
A Single Bright Spot: The only saving grace of the entire meal was the Thai iced tea. It was good, and probably the highlight of my experience.
Hair-Raising Tom Yum: My friend's experience wasn't much better. Her Tom Yum noodle soup, while flavorful, was marred by the discovery of a hai! Thankfully, our server was apologetic and replaced the soup after we finally managed to get his attention.
Salad with a Kick: On a slightly positive note, my friend did enjoy her salad. It had the spice level she requested.
Overall, Saap Thai Kitchen was a frustrating and disappointing experience.
Too sweet, too salty, but... has potential.
I could taste the seasoning, the truly taste of thai tea in this drink. However, you guys need to improve.
I tried to drink my Thai Iced Tea, but it was SO SWEET that even with extra ice and water in another cup, it was undrinkable.
My Rad Na was well seasoned, I can tell. However, too salty.
I truly believe you guys can improve it. That's why I'm leaving this review.
The Mango Stick Rice was good, even out of mango season.
Decided to come here instead of the city for Thai, and I can't say I'm disappointed. This joint caters it's tastes more for the locals but they can also make it more authentic for those that want it. For that option we were recommended the papaya salad & soups.
Let me tell you they delivered on the Thai spicy request. It was alright to start out with and before I was halfway finished with the papaya salad, I was downing my 3rd cup of water. The pad Thai itself was also very good and it came in a deceptively massive portion (I recommend asking for fish sauce as well for this).
Thinking more about it, I do think overall the food would be a 4 star in my book. However, I thought the service we got was amazing and they were able to make the food more authentic upon our request (our group did have a Thai speaker) and I'd 100% recommend this place if you're local!
Side note: they are having a promo of Thai ice tea if you order over a certain amount 👌👌.
The food tastes delicious but my one complaint is they don’t put enough of the protein in the dishes. Not enough to be satisfying or to justify the cost. We ordered basil beef for $16.95 and got very little meat especially compared to the amount of onions. Same for our fried rice. I’m sad bc I crave it and it’s good but I wish they’d do a little better.
Saap Thai is delicious! My partner and I stopped in for lunch while our running errands and were quite pleased with our choice. I got the cashew nut chicken lunch special, which comes in a great portion with a side salad, rice and fried egg. I also got a thai tea. Service was great, too! Our server was very kind and attentive. We would absolutely come back!
This place is a gem hidden in South Sf. Newly opened recently so not many people know about it yet. It is def one of the better Thai restaurants that I've been. The pad Thai is saucy and has the wok hay taste. The noodles are springy, doesn't fall apart in the mouth and has a little bite to it. We also got the duck fried rice and that was also really good. Btw, you get a free Thai iced tea if you spend 25$ or more, which is so easy because you can get so many great dishes. Our second time coming here and we always enjoy the food. In a few months it'll be bustling. No doubt.
Food is awesome, server is busy but accommodating... His very friendly
We ordered pineapple, chicken and red pumpkin curry via Uber eats and did not receive any rice with our meal and when we called the Restaurant they said they do not offer rice with their entrées that it’s extra and you have to order rice to go with!? This is the first time in 30 years that I’ve ordered from an Asian restaurant that I had to order rice separately from an entrée. Especially for the price we paid! Very disappointed with the quality of the food and your service. Who eats curry without white rice??!
Amazing service and absolutely delicious! We had the broccoli chicken and jalapeño beef lunch specials. Both dishes had amazing flavor and were huge portions s. Reasonable prices, highly recommended! 😊
Food tastes great
Food and service was great.
I've tried several dishes from here that I've liked.
Yellow curry: both me and my partner's fav!
Red curry: still good, just not AS good as the yellow curry for some reason
Pad thai & pad see ew: very standard, I like the pad see ew slightly more
Pad prik sod: decided to try out one of their lunch specials, this was really tasty but really spicy 😭 can't handle the Thai green chilis
lastly their Thai iced tea is a must!!!
I ordered online (Uber eats) bamboo chicken 2 dishes
Found only 3 pc of chicken in each dish. No flavor and watery.
Won’t order again
The customer service made us feel like we were home. The food was fresh and delicious!
Un asco de lugar
The price on the window menu and the price in the menus is different than what I got charged… I understand the prices haven’t been updated, but I felt cheated.

An unassuming place from the street, but one serving frankly amazing Thai food. Do not walk past. Your taste buds will thank you!!

Dont order pad thai here. It was very disappointing. A full bowl of just noodle without enough vegetables or flavor. Was sweet, orange in color and had no other flavor, zero thai flavors.the peanuts were rancid.
The staff is quite unpleasant. They have this self important attitude and have a rude and condescending demeanor for no reason.
Overall a pretty unpleasant experience, wont return.
Super good and delicious food. The first time I came here my food was super spicy and I could not eat it, but I decided to give it a second chance and ever since it's been amazing 😍 if you're not into spicy food just ask for.extra mild and they will deliver ☺️
The food was delicious and quite substantial, I ordered a tofu-veggie soup for the cold weather and I left satisfied. The service was a little slow, probably because they had a lot of orders, as they are in Uber Eats, Doordash and GrubHub, because the restaurant was empty at the early time that I went. I would totally recommend it!

I’ve been craving duck curry for awhile but it’s not something offered in many Thai restaurants lately. When offered in some places, duck doesn’t always taste fresh. I was ecstatic to find this place. Now, Saap doesn’t have the best duck curry I’ve had but it definitely hits the spot. The duck was fresh and plentiful. The broth could be creamier but the spiciness and flavor were there. I’d rate it 4.5 stars.
The Thai iced tea had the perfect level of sweetness. I should’ve ordered one more to go.
I was surprised they were offering mango sticky rice! Some restaurants only offer it when Manila mangoes are in season during the summer! For $8.95, the dessert was plentiful! It could’ve been an entire meal if I wasn’t so hungry! 😂
The best, however, is the staff. The manager/server who helped me was very nice and friendly. Although I came half hour before they closed for lunch, I wasn’t rushed at all. He answered my questions, and was very accommodating. The kitchen(?) staff that were leaving as I was finishing my food were also friendly. They all said “thank you” as they passed by to exit! Not a single employee was unhappy!
I highly recommend this restaurant!
Fast, fantastic take out - delish!!!!

The Woonsen Chicken Glass Noodles are near perfect. Light, flavorful, tons of veggies, and with a light butter finish. Wow.
Everything is so flavorful. I have enjoyed many dishes from here.
Truly delicious! Brilliant Green curry and scrumptious mango rice dessert
I'm rounding up to four stars with caveats, some of the dishes were no more than three (in our opinion of course)
Found out they are the same (second) owners of White Elephant across town which we've been going to since they first opened. This is a good thing since that gives you some assurance about the competence of the kitchen.
That being said there's a noticeable difference in the menu. This place is supposed to be a more Northern Thai style place vs the mainstream central Thai everyone is familiar with.
Some dishes we had were solid four while others disappointed so I rounded down to three but will revisit and change as needed, I'll explain.
Crab fried rice, tastes like their foundation version at White Elephant, always tasty.
Crispy tofu, this was a standout preparation. Thin super crisp exterior, soft tender interior, expertly prepared. Get this!
Pra ram, menu says it's served on a bed of spinach (like it usually is) but there was no spinach to be found, instead, it was served with the ubiquitous broccoli, cabbage, and carrot mix, so that was very disappointing. I dislike that enough to ask that it not be served with that next time, we didn't eat that. Sauce is less peanutty and sweet than we like but that could be a regional variation, we don't know so ask if you like.
Panang curry salmon. I'm going to reorder this next time. We got there late so that might have affected the preparation of the fish which was very over cooked. The sauce was thin unlike my usual Panang beef I get elsewhere. This could also be another regional variation so not judging that, again perhaps asking will get answers, I will do this next time. Unfortunately this was also served with a volume of the Asian American veggie mix which I just didn't eat. I will ask that it be omitted next time but if you like that definitely get it, nicely blanched cabbage included.
Pad Thai was solid with well prepared wider version noodles (vs the thinner used at some places) not overly saucy, not dry, and not over cooked. We opted for tofu instead of meat and it was excellent. The tofu was nice and tender, many places give you this fried out tofu that's nothing but a chewy skin and no tofu inside, not here!
Best Thai food in the bay area. Friendly staff. Go with yours eyes closed!
We stopped there by chance as it was late and were looking for diner. The staff accommodated us just before they closed. We had Pad Thai and Curry, everything was spectacular. I can't wait to go back and try other dishes on the menu.
We were staying close by to catch an early flight at SFO. Thankfully we Saap a Thai restaurant. Delicious food. Tried the red curry and pad kee mow. So yummy! The portions were good sized and had a lot of meat in them. Delicious sauces. We had so much we took it to the airport the next morning and ate it for breakfast as there were nothing opened at 4:30 in the morning in our terminal. 👍🏻😊😋 prices were also very reasonable.
Great place, great food
Pad kee mao was solid
I liked the flavors 🙂
The pad kee mao duck (not spicy) that I ordered was very tasty. It had just the right amount of duck fat to make it flavorful and not too greasy.
Food was ok, but lunch portion was small (with added rice, fried egg, and soup). Basil Chicken was mostly onions... not chicken or basil. My wife's dinner portion of pad see eww was better so I'd give it another try but I'll skip the lunch menu.
Super kind people and the food is delicious! They have veggie options not listed on the menu.

This Thai restaurant has a great outdoor seating area, which is perfect for summer dining. The food is always delicious, and the staff is very accommodating. I've never had a bad meal at this Thai restaurant. The ingredients are always fresh, and the flavors are always amazing. Highly recommend the pad see ew.
