A family owned and run restaurant since 1995.
We weren't looking for this restaurant when we started out and it was a nice surprise that we found it on our way to another one. The weather in SB was wonderful when we sat outside. We requested vegan options and every dish we tasted was bursting with flavors and spicy the way we liked. The spicy fried rice and mixed vegetables with garlic sauce were delicious. The service was also very friendly and welcoming. Definitely stop by if you're looking for Thai in this busy street with so many options.
Incredible service and food! We were planning on going to the other Thai place across the street, but they were closed despite their hours saying otherwise. It must've been a blessing in disguise, because this place was practically perfect. From its decor inside, to the kind waiter/waitresses, and especially the food for being authentically Thai, there really isn't anything as comparable (and we've been to many Thai places across the Central Coast!). We are for sure making this a mandatory stop anytime we visit SB downtown, and I truly hope this place gets the business it absolutely deserves!
We went along with friends for diner. We preferred the curry fried rice along with the pa nang curry which was listed as their house specialty. Our friend ordered the spicy curry noodles with pork and the garlic and pepper pork stir fry. All the dishes are really tasty and appropriately spiced. The quantity was sufficient for all people. The service was quick and the hostess was very accommodating in making some dishes vegetarian ( without including fish sauce or oyster sauce). Regarding parking, since the restaurant is near downtown Santa Barbara, we had to rely on street parking which was available at 0.25 mile distance. There are also paid public parking lots available where the first 75 minutes are free.
Wanted to have a quick bite. Noted this place on the strip, we had the lunch specials for $15.
It was not too busy on the Friday later afternoon and were promptly seated by some nice staff.
Food came out quick from the kitchen, I ordered garlic pepper with mixed veggies, I requested it to be spicy … be warned it was fairly hot! Luckily I did not ask for the spiciest.
We were all generally happy with the portions, the lunch specials came with a bowl of rice, fried wonton and egg roll, we generally do not eat large amounts so these were totally fine but if you have a large appetite this one portion may not suffice. My family and I did like the food overall.
I would say negatives would be the interior could do with a renovation, definitely felt a little run down. +3.5/5.
During our Santa Barbara trips, we always enjoy delicious Thai food and red wine at Galanga Thai Restaurant (507 State Street). My top pick on the menu is the stir-fried Pineapple Fried Rice that includes shrimp, chicken, onion, peas, and carrots. I also really like the Crispy Egg Roll, Fried Wonton, Crab Cream Puff (crab meat and cream cheese filling), Shrimp Roll and Steamed White Rice. The Galanga is a family-run Thai restaurant that has been serving authentic and original recipes since 1983. With a focus on fresh produce and balanced flavors, they carry forward the rich culinary traditions of their founders, Ponphan and Chareonsak. The head chef, Wantana, grew up in Bangkok. This restaurant, named for the key Thai ingredient galangal, features dishes that evoke the taste of home-style cooking. If you go, enjoy!
My group and I really wanted to like this place, unfortunately we were very disappointed with both the food and the service. The food was very bland and lacked character/soul. We had to send back two dishes because they weren’t very good at all and the owner came out and yelled at us for being inconsiderate. All that aside, the food just doesn’t appeal to the traditional Thai food that I have had in the past. We ordered the garlic pepper beef, cashew chicken, veggie currie, deep fried tofu, fried rice and the papaya salad. The garlic pepper beef was good but needed more sauce. The cashew chicken was not good at all, no flavour, no complexity. The deep fried tofu was bland and the sauce with it was also
terrible. The Fried rice was typical and lacked flavour as well. I could go on but I will leave it there. Have a good day.
Sugar sugar sugar, in everything. First we had the chicken satay the we ordered Penang curry and crab fried rice. The satay was good the pickles that came with it were in a brine that taste more like sugar water with some vinegar. The crab fried rice was the best thing we ordered. The Penang curry was so extremely sweet that I couldn’t enjoy it. The peanut sauce was also good in flavor, but still too much sugar. I eat a lot of Thai food. I’ve never tasted so much sugar in one meal at any other Thai restaurant. This was overwhelming and I wish that we had only ordered the crab Fried rice.

The thai tea and food was very good. They messed up one of our orders but fixed it and gave free spring rolls.
Excellent authentic Thai
A little spicy but so good I couldn't stop eating
One of the best Thai
places I have been to. The food is flavorful and fresh and service is great. Prices are reasonable. Highly recommend this place.
Soups are perfection bursting with flavor and the pad see yee was delicious!

Love their Tom kha soup so much! It’s the best in town!
After 8 long years of dining there, It used to be one of my top 5 favorite restaurants in Santa Barbara I guess they forgot their manners and how to treat customers properly (specifically a female employee named Boom & another waiter) Before I literally even sat down to eat I decided to use the restroom for literally only 10 minutes to handle my business and she accuses me of doing other stuff in the bathroom & that there were so many customers waiting also use the restroom but when I left the restroom there was only person waiting. They were literally two restrooms there on each side, she and another employee treated me like I was the one causing trouble I even tried to apologize but they kept insisting that I was a "nuisance", I was shocked. I even timed how long I was in there and it was only 10 minutes and 56 seconds to be exact. COMPLETELY UNBELIEVABLE!!!. I Never will EVER come here again. (& By the way, they have roaches and mice in the back, take it from a former employee) 🤢🤮
Really tasty Thai, chill outdoor seating, and friendly service. Outta towner arriving in SB for first time. Craving Thai and chose this place based on the reviews and was pleased they had outdoor seating available.
Couldn't be happier - all the dishes were very flavorful - for me the standouts were the Panang Curry and the Chili Fish. But all dishes we had were flavorful. Friendly service, decent prices, and just enjoyed the outdoor dining. Great way for me and my family to first experience SB.
Food made me feel sick….Very small portions.Very tasty beverages but most of the drink was ice and you couldn’t even get a free refill.Bad service they forgot about the order and had an attitude while talking.
Best Thai in town. Great customer service too!
Great place, delicious rice!
Good food, very tasty! Smiling waitresses, would recommend this place for lunch! Nice tables outside on State St
Absolutely fantastic!
This restaurant is an absolute gem, with deep-rooted traditions and flavors. Owned by very lovely and hardworking Thai people, you won't find such high-quality, impeccably clean, and authentic Thai cuisine anywhere else but in Thailand. Don't miss it when you're in Santa Barbara! You'll be more than satisfied in every aspect – taste, portion size, and service. Plus, it's very reasonably priced.
Thank you so much ❤️
Very good service, great food. I must say they have incredible take out particularly on Friday nights
Impossible order via internet if your phone is other countries as listed.
Service is amazing, but more importantly the food is unbelievable! We ordered the Spicy Drunken Noodle and Green Curry. The homemade coconut milk for the curry is heartwarming and delicious. As tourists in Santa Barbara, this place is a must go!
Spicy Drunken Noodles and Garlic Pepper chicken were really good.
Everything we had from yellow curry, pineapple, fried rice, and the seafood soup were delicious
The place is a nice warmly lit restaurant and you can tell the staff cares if you like the food or not. Very nice people. The food comes out incredible every time. Their tom kah soup is the bomb seriously good. Everything i have ordered has been good and me and the boys will hundred percent be making this a regular spot. Just kind of came across this place not disappointed
My husband ordered chicken wings appetizers that tasted like the meat had been in the freezer too long . I had the pad tai rice noodles which tasted pretty good. Would not go back
Food was just ok, e.g., Green Curry too watery (and more white than green), Tom Yum soup too salty. Ambience was very mid, even though riggt in the middle of trendy SB downtown.
2nd visit:
Tried tom yum soup and green curry, mild spicy is flavored perfectly, overall better than expected. Changed 4 star to 5 star.
——————
Tom Kah is great, it’s sour enough and blended well.
Papaya salad is the worst, both the taste and texture do not meet my expectation.
Pineapple fried rice is a bit over cooked otherwise it’s not too bad.
圣诞节去的,人有点多,食物还行
The place was understaffed, we ordered together but the food arrived randomly over 20+ minutes. The food was ok minus, depends on the dish but the messed up service and the unimpressive food = I don't recommend it.
Great authentic Thai foods with very good services at reasonable price. Will come back again for sure.
Well executed Thai food. Excellent service and attention. Perfect location. Highly recommended..A+++++
Super tasty food, very friendly service.

We were looking for somewhere to have lunch on Thanksgiving and stumbled upon this place. It looked more interesting than the generic expensive American or Mexican restaurants on this block on State Street.
The pad kee mao was actually very legit, with the smoky flavor of the wok and the containers of Thai chili flakes and birds eye chilis. Everyone that worked there was very friendly and fast, even though they were very busy.
Amazing and authentic Thai food and a good selection of vegetarian options too. Must go.
My Thai salad is the worst thing I've eaten in a long time. It's the most unappetizing salad on the face of the Earth. A visual disaster. The ingredients are chopped like they're meant for a hamster. I've seen volcano lava thinner than the peanut sauce they served with it. I wouldn't come back here, not even if I were drowning in wine.
Making a basic salad is a piece of cake, and I've shelled out 13 bucks for this nonsense of a dish. I left a tip for the server because she was friendly, but if you're looking for some real Thai flavors, you'd be better off checking out another place.
I just eat today ,galanga Thai food in Santa Barbara the rice was burnt and the pad see ew are burnt told to the waitress and she ah ok what a jerks answer but probably she doesn’t understand what I said , and and bus lady she seen the food that burnt she said sorry 😢 because I’m not satisfied the food it’s bad and burnt.they acted that’s it’s ok to serve burnt food to customers what a distasteful.and food taste bad maybe they have different cook today. FOOD Was taste and look HORRIBLE 😭Rice too mushy and burnt noodles and chicken was burnt horrible Food
We went there for dinner with our friends. We has rice and panang curry. The food was goog and also the service. We were also asked for a feedback about the food and service. Vegetarian and vegan options are also available. I recommend this place for thai food in Santa Barbara.
I have been going there for a long time. Nice server.
Green Papaya salad and Pork Dumplings.
Medium spice was perfect for the salad, was fresh and full of flavour.
Enjoyed the Dumplings, enough filling and the sauce gave some kick to it. Portions were enough to share, would add another dish however if sharing with a man.
Order was to-go, overall waited 10mins, wasn't busy and friendly service.
Incredible service and food! We were planning on going to the other Thai place across the street, but they were closed despite their hours saying otherwise. Good food
If you are looking for the best Thai food in SB, look no further. This is a long time family owned establishment. Their food is great. It feels intimate and authentic.
Maden og personalet var helt i top men selve ved restauranten er lidt intetsigende og ikke specielt hyggelig.
Very very very kind service. My aunt ordered a dish that was too hot for her, and they were so willing to help out. Professional! The food was absolutely delicious. It's a Thai place, though, so know you're going to get spicy if you order red or green curry! They can't take out spice without taking out the flavor. I got the Tom Kah soup and really enjoyed it--it was more lemony than others I've had, but also more authentic than many I've had. Sooooo good! Big portions, the price of a downtown area. We sat outside, the town closes the street and all the restaurants have outdoor seating. It was a busy place all around us with all the restaurants and downtown shoppers. The restaurant itself doesn't shout to be noticed from the ones around it--it looks a little run down. But you won't be disappointed with the food. It's so delicious!
Best Thai I have had in a long time. Eggplant with Chicken was my favorite. Pad Thai was great!!!
Wanted to have a quick bite. Noted this place on the strip, we had the lunch specials for $15.

That salad was the hottest 'medium' anything I've ever had anywhere! Be forewarned! Thai tea was tiny, too. Average place. That's not bad. Most are average. 🙂
we were seated quickly and the servers were very sweet! the flavors were just average and the proportions were relatively small, however.
So good.
All around, great experience for my first lunch visit. I'd highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Quick and friendly service. The space is a little outdated. Food is slightly less flavor than would be expected.
Sehr leckeres Pad Thai, am Ambiente könnte man etwas arbeiten
Service war sehr gut preise waren 15-25$ aber war seinen preis wert. Hat sehr gut geschmeckt
Wonderful ambience. Food is great n service excellent.
Great Thai place in Santa Barbara. Stopped in on a rainy night while at Hotel Virginia around the corner. Service was prompt and friendly. The food was quite good. I had Thom Ka and Spicy Eggplant with Tofu.
Asked if I could have a small bowl of soup, and the response was yes. Perhaps it was a miscommunication as the regular size was brought and charged. Also had the wrong bill brought to the table, but not a deal breaker. Nice people, mediocre atmosphere.
Would suggest the food certainly!
I normally wouldn't write a review but my experience here was really bad. I got their vegetable fried rice with tofu no egg no fish sauce for the first time and I loved it at first. When I came home my cheeks were flushed red and puffy. Immediately I knew I had an allergic reaction or was experiencing some kind of food poisoning. I took over the counter medication and that seemed to make it worse. I couldn't sleep all night because my mouth my throat were dry. It felt like my throat was clogged up. I couldn't breathe from my nose at all so I had to breathe from my mouth. My mouth was very dry and dehydrated. I was fine before I ordered and ate the food. Now I'm having post nasal drip, sinus infection, and abdominal pain. If you are sensitive to food please think twice before ordering here. It could have been a mistake but cross contamination is real. I never felt the way I did before.
Ok I have honest review after eating here for a few years now.
I wasn’t always vegan but now am. I’ve eaten here as both.
They used to not make the food spicy when requested… instead just given dried chili flakes. Food was still good but thai food is supposed to be known for this. It was disappointing for that aspect but food still good.
Fast forward to now: being vegan, they said they don’t have fresh or chopped thai chilis that aren’t already soaked in fish sauce. It’s a bummer. It was a whole thing every time I came in to try to get some sort of spice to my food. Well, after many times, they finally got it. And of all the foods, they were able to make pad thai spicy. Which is unusual for pad thai, but I’m happy to get to enjoy food while breaking a sweat.
Galanga: thank you for always trying to get it right for me.
They take very long for to go orders. I had to wait almost 30 minutes for an order and when I asked the waiter told me that it would be best to cancel because they are busy. But I was waiting even before it got really busy
Good food, good service. The waitstaff was very helpful in ensuring that I could order something to suit my allergy. The lunch special was a little pricey, but enjoyable.
No tatse, just greasy.
Asked for spicy, turned out to be not even mild.
The server was awesome. He walked me through my orders carefully to ensure I'm aware of what I'm paying for.
They stop taking orders 45 min before the restaurant closes.
I had the chicken satay & garlic pepper beef, and both were very tasty!
Rip off
We stopped because it was on the main strip of SB adventure and it was one of the 2 local restaurants I could actually smell the food. It smelled sooo good! We sat down and ordered then looked up reviews. After reading I was nervous.....but once we received dinner I was super impressed! Sooo much flavor and quick friendly service.
Drunken noodles were good. Veggie fried wontons barely had any vegetables in them. Service was poor. Portions small.
We stumbled across this Thai restaurant. The service here was awesome - he even came over to fix our table as it had a slight wobble (which we hadn’t noticed).
We ordered two curries and they were delicious. Definitely worth a visit for anyone who loves Thai food and it’s really reasonable pricing !
Change your hours, says you close at 930, went in at 845 says they can't sit us. Horrible customer service.
I don’t even want to give them the one star. They made it clear that they didn’t want to serve us because we were a group of 8 people. And they had one table they were serving at that time. I would totally understand if they were busy, but now I understand why they are so slow. If you are the business owner I would evaluate your serve.
Unusually bad food, like really not Thai food at all. service is weirdly incompetent, as if they’d never worked in a restaurant before. Would not recommend.
We chose this place on a whim and it was excellent food and excellent service!!
Excellent pa nang curry, good service and reasonable prices.
Always yummy food. Lunch special (weekdays, no holidays) is good deal.
Galanga hasn’t lasted for no reason!!For me it’s one of the classic Santa Barbara Thai food restaurant on State.
I love the Pinapple Feied Rice Combo. It's delicious
Very kind people, good food and great location. What else do you want?
Good for vegetarians too.
My group and I really wanted to like this place, unfortunately we were very disappointed with both the food and the service. The food was very bland and lacked character/soul. Best Chicken ginger soup
It smelled bad when I got in, the waiters were rude
How you guys treat your customer was more than disgusting. I got wrong food that was ordered via doordash. They told me they can give me a credit for the food. I was happy until today that they told me they couldn't find any record of it, blaming on one of their employees. I don't care about who you guys wanna blame on, I just wanted my food! It's your responsibility for the words u have given to me, not mine. I ordered a lot from this restaurant and from today I would never place a single order, nor recommend this place to my friends.
Delicious authentic Thai food! Friendly and wonderful service! Highly recommended!
This is the bad ever Thai food I ever had there's no salt no spice no nothing just whole bunch of Grease we ordered crispy combination and eggplant and tofu and a Thai salad for the crispy combination we had only two shrimp battered rest of them are just broccoli carrot kind of vegetables don't ever go this place anybody
Very polite service and fantastic food!
Very delicious!
Wow wow wow! It is about pad thai, pineapple fried rice and curry ❤️
Best Thai food in the area by far! My husband and I ate there last night and we were thrown back on the flavors of the dishes. So delicious and authentic. And the service was great, very friendly. Will definitely come back.
This place is amazing! Always great, friendly service, and DELICIOUS food. The drunken noodles are perfect every time, but everything is equally delicious
Amazing! Always loving and make you feel at home. By far our favorite Thai food in Santa Barbara❤️
Yummy food.. Good service..
What is positive?
1.) The menu is nice and extensive. Yes, prices are moderate, but in line with what you should expect to see here on State Street. 2.) The service is polite and attentive. Staff came by the table a few times after serving our food to see if we were satisfied and needed anything. 3.) The vegetables, seafood and meats used seemed fresh.
On the negative side?
1.) In a couple of the dishes we had, it would have been nice to see more vegetables. There was far more coconut milk/ coconut curry compared to vegetables. The portion of meat/ seafood was ok. 2.) The curry and coconut milk comes off somehow watery. The flavor is thin. One dish was ordered spicy and aside from what looked like a few sliced jalapenos (?), the spicing was pretty indiscernible.
Great local joint. I love the Spicy Eggplant Chicken. Friendly and appreciative staff.
Simple decor, clean and tidy restaurant with good service. They have an extended patio area on State St. Since the pandemic. The Thai food has an authentic taste, but they could add more vegetables to their dishes... and pricing is normal to match high Santa Barbara food prices. Overall it was a nice dinner!
One of the best Thai food.. specially drunken noodles and chicken satay.. ❤️❤️❤️
Great lunch special, really good customer service, always had our cups full of water
Tom kai soup was delicious. Probably the best I have ever tasted.
The food lacked flavor and ‘soul’. Papaya salad was bad as the papaya itself was not fresh and too much chewy. Fish basil and fish panang, the fish was probably triple fried and one couldn’t possibly taste the fish, might as well be just the batter deep fried. Seafood platter was more of seafood soup but the wok pork pepper was good. The stretch needs better authentic Thai food for sure
Amazing authentic Thai food. We got the pad Thai, pad see ew, Panang fish, and and lemon fish. All were amazing! They have killer chili's on the side of you like a little burn with your food. Truest flavor to traditional Thai food I've ever had.
The food was ok. They are very expensive for not even authentic Thai food. Try the food in LA county in order to get a authentic Thai food.
My kind of great thai food the real deal
I loved this place.
We were able to dine in and the Tom Kha Kai was so good, it made me want to scream!
Super good food, and really sweet server. Would come back for sure.
Muy rica la comida y un muy buen servicio
Super tasty, but small portions. They don’t have a lunch menu so I was kind of surprised when we ordered today. But the food was delicious and we’d definitely go back!
So good. Amazing fresh food and open on Christmas Day.
Great food
The pad thai
Great food and service!
Amazing
I ordered delivery... Got some rice and a soup, paid $60 and the guys shows up with a cold and tasteless meal, complaining about not being able to find my address like it's my fault LOL! I'm like well I also took the time to write directions on top of giving you the address. Do you want me to go to the restaurant and hold your hand all the way to my place? haha
The food is terrible, I lived in Thailand for a while and it's like they have never even visited or tasted their food there! Overall pretty bad!
Disappointed. Shrimp fried rice had actual ginger in it ate 2 pieces and way too much pepper seasoning. I enjoy spicy but get actual peppers not the seasoning. Chicken curry is not spicy at all and potatoes are huge chopp them smaller please. Last thing, they forgot my thai ice tea... ugh.
So flavorful. So. Damn. Delicious.
Had the Duck Salad , followed by the eggplant basil.
Do it.
This place has never disappointed. The Tom kha Kai aka chicken coconut soup will blow you away.
Love having the panang curry and drunken noodles here. The restaurant is spacious with a calm and relaxing atmosphere.
very good soup
i love the dumplings !
the staff is very kind !
love it!
Good place.
Most of the food felt either reheated after freezing or just stale. We asked for mild to medium and got throat burning hot with most curries so watered down they felt flavorless except for salt and pepper. My son and wife didn't even eat anything. There prices are also not very reasonable, which makes this place a pretty bad value for money compared to some other restaurants in the vicinity. Please stay away and save your money for any other place.
Great food with tons of varieties!
Lovely food, decent price and excellent service.
This is a complete rip off for a Thai place. We ordered curry, which ALWAYS comes with rice (never in my life without) and it arrives without any. Woman on the phone says it was a $2 addition (to the $14 curry). Now it is soup. $14 soup. Never ordering from this terrible place again.
Good flavor but very small portions and expensive , they add the tip on the bill but the waitress is never there if you need something
Delicious food, they accommodated my gluten and pepper allergies, and they served our large party with no notice. Wonderful people!
3.2 - Got the yellow chicken curry and the pad see ew. Curry flavor was ok, the rice was ok, and the spice level was pretty high for the most mild request. Edible, but just much spicier than expected. Pad see ew was good. The noodles were huge, which I haven’t seen before really, and the chicken was good. Tasty and our favorite part of the meal. The crab Rangoon was all cream cheese and I couldn’t taste the crab at all.
Amazing service, even more amazing food!! YUM!!!
Went here twice ordering Panange curry and a yellow curry with veggies each time. It wasn't bad it just wasn't great. Very... Ok. At that price point there are many other Thai places that are better in SB but off State Street.
Food tastes fine. But they just lure money. They charge $3 extra for broccoli, $2 extra for basil, $4 extra for chicken. For meat it sounds reasonable. Last time I went and asked for adding basil, they said $1, second time they said $2. prices are just ridiculous. I ordered yellow curry rice which should have egg, but they didn't make it with egg. Basically they seem to be greedy and conjuce. I will not go there again.
We love this Thai place. Nothing fancy, just great food at good prices.
Delicious food I recommend this place
