Sophisticated venue for contemporary Thai-Californian cuisine & inventive cocktails.
Did the tasting menu. All was great and worthy of the Michelin star if not two. Far more depth of flavor than any Thai food I've had before. Dessert was the only area that left a little bit to be desired but it may have just been the two that came with the tasting menu as the chocolate dessert the person next to us got look phenomenal.
Nari is a pleasant surprise for me. I have been kind of reluctant to try it out due to the lower review scores here, but everything was amazing during my visit. The place has this cute tropical forest vibe with a lot of plants. Service was great. The best part of my experience was the food for sure. Curry lamb was the best of the evening. The pairing of the lamb with grilled green onions and peaches was kind of ingenious. Drinks were delicious as well.
The dining experience was truly excellent everything from the service to the quality of the food itself. We got the tasting menu and everything we tried tasted incredible but the quantities were quite a lot we were unable to finish everything. The only item that I was not a huge fan of was one of the desserts. The curries are to die for! 5/5 recommend
Interesting but a bit overwhelmingly fatty. 5 apps and 3 mains was enough to feed 4 people. Favorite dish was the seafood curry app. Brussels and mushroom larb were a bit lacking in flavor, clams were overwhelmed by the sauce (in my opinion). Curries were fantastic, squid and jowl app of course delicious and very rich. Lovely char flavor on the squid
This is one of the best Thai restaurants I've been to in my life. I ordered the lamb shank with curry and a green coconut dessert. Everything was amazing. The ingredients were very high quality and fresh. The curry had an incredible unique flavor. The portions were large and I took some home for the next day. It also is a great value for a Michelin star restaurant and affordable. The service was excellent and it's a very nice restaurant inside a hotel. Overall, I had a great experience and highly recommend coming here for a memorable fine dining experience.
We decided to celebrate our anniversary with the Chef's choice menu at Nari. I started with a drink called Nilaka, a delightful blend of agricole rum, mango-lassi, pineapple, pandan, and falernum. The mango-lassi made it easy to drink, masking the alcohol taste.
Our meal began with ma hor to freshen up our palate, followed by the Beef Shank Curry Puff—two curry puffs filled with braised beef shank, served with Curry Dipping Sauce and Ajad Pickles. They were incredibly flavorful and aromatic!
Next, we enjoyed the Scallop Yum Gati, featuring cured scallops with shiko par, chili jam, cashews, celtuce, chili, and herbs like lemongrass. The Yum Tawai salad was a delightful mix of fall vegetables, fruits, and herbs in a curried peanut dressing with sesame seeds. This was my favorite dish!
The Squid and Pork Jowl was a highlight, with grilled squid and sweet, succulent pork jowl topped with peanuts and cilantro, served with sticky rice. The Namtok Moo, grilled pork chop topped with herbs, was equally delicious, accompanied by sticky rice and lettuce wraps. I can see why people really like this dish—the pork jowl is so tender and juicy. The waiter advised eating a bite of squid with a bite of pork jowl together, and it was amazing! However, I have to say it's too salty for me, even though I ate a lot of rice and lettuce trying to balance it off.
The Gaeng Bumbai Aubergine, crispy eggplant in spicy Bumbai curry with basil and crispy shallots, pairs perfectly with their buttery roti. I love their roti! The eggplant is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
The Namtok Moo, grilled pork chop topped with herbs and served with sticky rice and lettuce to wrap, was delicious!
Prik King Gai is crispy chicken stir-fried in curry paste with beans, dried shrimps, kaffir, and salted duck egg. By this point, my palate was feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the dishes. The intense flavors of spices and herbs like lemongrass and cilantro were becoming a bit much, with the saltiness standing out.
The last dish was caramelized fish sauce cabbage, fried with garlic. I was surprised to see this dish at the end, as I often have fried cabbage in my daily meals. It didn’t stand out among the other dishes.
For dessert, we had Dreaming of Lod Chong, a pandan parfait with salted coconut cream and ice, and Wan Yen, a refreshing mix of strawberry and raspberry, tapioca pearls, and jellies in salted coconut cream under crushed ice.
Overall, it was a fantastic and satisfying experience. At the end, the flavors were a bit overpowering and salty, but I highly recommend these dishes:
- Scallop Yum Gati
- The Squid and Pork Jowl
- The Gaeng Bumbai Aubergine
- Dreaming of Lod Chong
Celebrated birthday with my partner, everything was well planned by the restaurant with small surprises throughout the dining experience.
Every dish we ordered were beyond our expectations, they’re not traditional Thai food but you can find every Thai elements perfectly blended in with creativity.
Highly recommend yum tawai, squid & pork jowl, and the lamb shank panang curry.
The sauce was amazingly delicious, and the lamb shank was one of the best lamb I’ve eaten, super tender and without any of the bad smell
I don't review often, but I would be doing a disservice to everyone if I didn't share recent expericne at Nari...
ABSOLUTE disappointment for our second Michelin Star experience in SF. The service was subpar/non-existent from the very beginning.
I guess the minimum one star on Google goes to a nice setting and the first 2 dishes, because the rest of the night was a complete letdown. To begin, I asked for lemon for my water to 2 servers and NEVER got them.
Although husband had expressed while ordering to tone down the spicy level of all dishes, the pork and squid dish was very spicy. I raised my concern to our server, who offered cucumbers and reassured the rest of the dishes were different. Well, those cucumbers again NEVER arrived.
Next, I find a blonde mid length hair strand on the pork and squid dish. It was remedied with a plate reset and a brief apology from the server, who never bothered to look at me to apologize, instead directed the apology to husband. They removed the dish from the bill and presented a cabbage dish on the kitchen.
Unfortunately, the cabbage, crispy chicken and beef stew dishes were all overly salty. We had to take home leftovers to pair with more rice for next day, as the rice included was not enough and regardless, we were too full of rice and of utter disappointment. Honestly, not eveyone wants to eat massive amounts of rice to tone down overly salty foods. I ended up with an upset stomach as we drove back home.
All in all, absolute let down from a ONE STAR MICHELIN restaurant. The main server was COMPLETELY aloof and lacked ANY trace of customer service skills. We had made plans for a nice outing, had our 3 kids taken care of to end up in a joke of a restaurant as tourists in SF. Honestly, we received way better service going in the drive-thru of In-N-Out than we ever did through our entire time at Nari.
I'm utterly dumbfounded by how this place earned a Michelin Star and skeptical of how standardized the rating metrics are. Having been to several restaurants rated 'On the Michelin Guide' in our city of Vancoucer BC, all those restaurants duly deserve to have more than one Michelin Star over Nari.
food mid, cocktails very good
There is so much to love about this restaurant. Namely the food is delicious and seasonal. Every dish was unique and flavorful and really good.
Sadly the service is very poor. Our tasting course (which started at 530pm with no one seated after us) was incredibly rushed. We had barely served a course, let alone eaten in when the next was plopped down in a hurried manner. The dishes were not explained and all of us were referencing photos we took on our phones of the menu.
We made a reservation for 12. One of our party had weather related flight delays and could not make it. We found this out as we were arriving at the restaurant. Despite the fact that we ordered drinks and wine and had an over 2k bill, the staff charged us a penalty for an unavoidable situation. They were unweilding and rude with our group. Unfortunately, we all left with a very sour taste in our mouth of what could have been a fantastic experience. There are a number of AMAZING restaurants in San Francisco. Don’t waste your time and wallet on a place that treats you like a credit card instead of a person.
This is my favorite restaurant. Definitely a splurge.

I’ve been to Nari a handful of times with different friends. And every time Nari never fails to impress. The food is delicious, I love the their uniquely crafted cocktails.
I highly recommend the squid and pork jowl, eggplant curry. The branzino is out of the world.
The service is always warm and friendly. And the Instagramable decor elevates the experience.
We got the fried fish (forgot the name), eggplant curry, and the fish curry appetizer. All were very good and I recommend. The lasi mocktail was also good.
Really excellent Thai restaraunt. Some of the most original flavors I have had at a Michelin one star. Certainly spicy, but never overwhelmingly so.
We booked an anniversary celebration for 5 people. 11 days before the date we reached out to Nari via phone to update the number of people to 6. No one picked up the phone no matter how many times we called.
We sent an email. First they told us we have to book a private room for 12 people. After we said we never stated we wanted a private room, they told us to contact the event coordinator, but never provided the event coordinator information. After we asked for it they told us to fill out the online form and stopped replying to our emails.
No one got back to us after we filled out the form.
3 days before the event we had to drive from East Bay to downtown SF to figure out if a very challenging task of adding one more person to our reservation was completed. The person at the reception tells us that they can see our reservation but unfortunately if there is more than 5 people the event coordinator has to be involved, and she’s not in today and they can’t help us but they can write down our contact info and make sure someone gets back to us. I asked if there was a way to contact them in case no one gets back to us because we tried calling before and no one picked up. They gave us the business card with the same number we tried calling before and said that’s the best they could do.
No one ever reached out to us.
Two days before the reservation they sent a text with the details about the reservation for 5 people.
One day before the event we canceled our reservation and booked a table at another restaurant.
Did not expect all this unnecessary stress from a Michelin-star restaurant. 👎🏻
We did a 2024 NYE tasting menu. All the dishes came out incredibly salty with very overpowering flavors. For a Michelin star restaurant, this was very disappointing. I did not see a tasting chef in the back. Panda Express would have been a more ideal place to dine at than at this restaurant with its intense umami, salty flavors of every dish that was on their menu today. The dishes were not balanced nor did they have textural appeal to it.
It’s possible their daily menus are amazing, but the 2024 tasting menu was not it. The total for each portion was $200.
I’d prefer to go to The Kitchen in Sacramento for a Michelin course menu.
Absolutely terrible service. Had to go to bar to get water refilled
Nari serves up delicious and innovative Thai cuisine. The eggplant curry is a must-try, and I loved the unique fusion dishes like the artichokes, which beautifully blend California produce and Thai flavors. The service was also excellent – helpful and attentive every time.

popular place, appetizer is either salty or spicy. Main dish black cod and beef cheek are the best.
The wine list was pathetic and insulting. They were offering only 5 red wines that were very old and/or very light. They must have been on a super sale. Not any good with the food. Spoiled the experience.
Omg so good! We got the chef's pick for 125 a person. They bring you 10 plates plus dessert. My partner put in the reservation that it was our aniversary and they printed a personal menu that said Happy Aniversary Sara and Oscar. Super thoughtful. The people working there were super kind. Great margarita and amazing orapim!
Had high hopes but was disappointed. There was one stand-out dish: the squid and pork jowl. Everything else was extremely salty, even with rice. The two of us drank two full bottles of water throughout the meal! Cocktail was subpar given the price.
Celebrated birthday with my partner, everything was well planned by the restaurant with small surprises throughout the dining experience.

The atmosphere was great. The server kept discouraging us from ordering spicy dishes even though we said it was fine which was kind of annoying, in the end the server was wrong because they weren't too spicy... Also, I personally found the flavors of the food to be below my expectations with things either being too acidic or too heavy. I did not love the flavors of the dishes, a lot of things felt like they were clashing to me. I usually love thai food so this was a disappointing experience. We ordered the following:
naem khao tod: Pretty interesting flavor combination. Not sure I enjoyed the flavors but it was definitely unique. I thought it was a little too acidic for my palate.
squid and pork jowl: probably my favorite dish here. It had a nice balance of fatty + acidity.
gaeng panang gae: the lamb shank was very tender. However, I did not like the flavor. I felt as there was a lot of spices and it was extremely heavy. However, it felt like it would have been so much better with some acidity in there. It was heavy in a rather unpleasant way.
Overall, the portions were pretty big for the price however, the flavor of the dishes were not up to my standards.

Made a booking for a incorrect date and cancelled it within 20 minutes and they charged me $80 cancellation fee - wild
FYI this restaurant charges a 6% junk fee which is not disclosed on the website.
The food had highs and lows. Enjoyed the rich and spicy flavor of the eggplant curry - although $40 for a vegetable curry with no protein felt excessive. The pork chop was also amazing. However, the croquettes (with extra charge to get anything more than 3 tiny pieces) had an unpleasant wet/mushy texture in the middle and the crispy chicken main was horribly unbalanced with an overwhelming salty, fishy flavor. The branzino had good flavor but the presentation felt incredibly casual for a $42 "starter" - a pile of chunks of fish that you are expected to wrap in lettuce and eat like a taco.
Atmosphere is beautiful inside but the tables were too close together - might as well be sitting at a communal shared table with the neighbors. Again, overly casual setup for a place purporting to offer an elevated experience.
Service was also mixed; wait staff were polite but seemed rushed and robotic, not very personable. Didn't get much useful information about the menu. Dishes were dropped off with a mumbled, rapid explanation that was hard to understand. Food came out sequentially at a slow pace, but we were then rushed out of the restaurant right at the end of dessert. We were ignored twice when we made a special request for a side of roti.
Overall, this was a disappointing visit in the sense that the prices did not match the experience. The same food, service, and setup would earn 4 or 5 stars as a casual affordable Thai restaurant elsewhere in the city with 50% of the prices. But this is not a Michelin experience in any domain.
Not recommended. Not worth your time to try this place. Food is not bad, management is terrible.
When: Saturday night. Made a reservation 2-weeks prior.
Food: Every dish was super rich and salty. We were sipping water throughout the entire dinner. Texture of the dishes, especially the mushroom laab, was well curated.
The pork dish (namtok moo) - pork was nicely grilled with a nice touch of smokiness, but the rich thai chili sauce was overtaking the flavor. The herbs and chili sauce were overwhelming for us.
Eggplant curry - super super rich! The fried eggplant was very crispy and bodied well with the curry.
Our stomach was burning/upset after the dinner, probably because of too much chili. Careful with the menu selection if you don’t have a high tolerance for spicy / chilis like us.
Atmosphere: nice dim lighting with high ceiling. Few different types of sitting options including a bar upstairs.
Service: great service.
짜고 맵고..그렇다. 허브를 많이 사용해 호불호가 갈릴거같다. 메뉴 꼼꼼히 살피길..재방문 X.
Some of the best food I've had in a long time. Do yourself a favor Get a drink at the bar and have some good food downstairs.
TOP!
Really good food. They suggested we sit upstairs so our party of 6 could stay past the first seating. They didn’t come by our table for service for 20 min… and at the end, they asked us to leave so they could seat for second seating. Poorly managed.
Nari is a Michelin-starred Thai restaurant located in Hotel Kabuki in the Japan Center Mall complex in Japantown on Post Street between Webster and Laguna.
Entry to the restaurant is through the Hotel Kabuki lobby. There are two levels to the restaurant: Downstairs is reception and the main dining area, and upstairs is a swanky bar area with a bar top and stools, restrooms, and a private dining room. The menu is the same for both the upstairs and downstairs.
For a drink I had the nilaka ($18), which was agricole rum, mango-lassi, pineapple, pandan, and falernum. It was a nice blended tropical drink on a warm day. It was sweet without being saccharine.
The appetizer was the yum tawai ($22), which was a salad of summer vegetables, tart fruits, and herbs in a curried peanut dressing with sesame seeds. Yum tawai is traditionally made with the vegetables cut short enough to fit on a spoon, to which Nari adhered. The peanut dressing was light and about a medium spice. The vegetables are changed out seasonally at Nari.
The entrée was the prik king gai ($36) which was crispy chicken stir-fried in a sweet and spicy curry paste with pole beans, dried shrimp, makrut, and salted duck egg shavings on top. The chicken had a crunch without being dry, then melted in the mouth. It was flavorful, spicy, and decadent without being heavy.
The servers were attentive and the hostess was very friendly and greeted regular patrons by name. The experience was exceptional, and I’d absolutely recommend it.
Massively overhyped. The food is good, but no better than a hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant. You're better off going to Osha Thai. Surprised that they have Michelin attention given that they're not doing anything overly creative over standard Thai cuisine (which is fantastic), but just get it somewhere else for less money and better table service.
Shady restaurant practices beware. Lack of service for a michelin distinguished restaurant, I am not surprised at the open availability on their reservation books. Was sent a text the day of the reservation asking us if we wanted to cancel. No mention of a cancellation fee was mentioned. Seems trivial but something this significant should be mentioned in a simple text message from a MICHELIN restaurant. This isn't a mom and pop shop that forgot to add a few more words. Emailed the team after being charged 20$ a person and was met with copy and paste answers to questions that did not show any sign that they read my emails. Terrible service and I do not recommend.

We celebrated our first wedding anniversary at Nari. Food, service and vibe are all excellent. We had chef’s specials and tasted 8 different items on the menu. They were all unique, creative and delicious. The flavors were complex and different from the Thai food you know. The deserts were again unique. I strongly recommend it. Check out the upstairs bar area. Knowledgeable mixologist Will will serve you up well crafted cocktails. 🍹
The food was no great. All spicy with the same flavors, not very interesting. The steak was ok, The best was the chocolate dessert.
First off, the service and vibe of this place are top-notch.
Yet I had high hopes for the food since it's run by the same team behind Ka Khao, which has brought me back to Thailand with their dishes multiple times. Unfortunately, this experience was a letdown, food-wise. The first dish, Khao Tung, was good, but the squid and pork jowl that followed didn't live up to it. The pork looked overcooked with a burnt crust, and the sauce was so overpowering that you couldn't taste the shrimp. The Prik King Gai was just okay, but the final dish, Tua Pad Kapi, was way too salty.
Honestly, I'm not sure how they earned or kept their star.
We went to Nari for a date night on Friday with curiosity of what Thai Michelin star look like. We order oysters som tum, squid and pork jaws, labb hed, maing pla and eggplant mumbai curry. The service was excellent top knot service our glass never emptied and our table never gets messy cause they always clean it up and the things is they do it without feeling like they are in your face all the time we were really impressed by the service here but the foods though leaving us disappointed we wanted to like our food but we have a really hard time to eat them. Our first dish
oysters somtum was good the food was well balanced no complain here but all the other 4 was rough
Labb Hed and the squid was super acidic and that we couldn’t any other taste.
The pork jaws was almost the taste was good and it was so soft that it could melt in our mouth but but but it was super burnt that it’s taste bitter for us and takes away all the yumminess out of it.
Maing pla is somewhat flavorful with lots of herbs that are not well balanced it was mostly sweet and the fish inside was really bland.
The eggplant mumbai curry the eggplant was good but the curry was super super rich.
For contact I’m Thai and I generally prefer Thai street food style over any Thai fusion so I already thought that Nari might not be quite my cup of tea but never thought we will be this disappointed cause even it might not be my cup of tea but at least we are expecting foods to be well balanced and hopefully some might change our minds about Thai fusion foods. Plus there was nothing fancy about foods everything pretty authentic in terms of ingredients but with a little twist and turn that doesn’t make it better but worse we were really disappointed especially we already set the bar low
Fantastic food! Really liked the branzino
Pretty good food! The Branzino, eggplant curry and the whiskey-coconut cocktail were the highlights for me.
outstanding
the usa isn’t ready for their spice magic, otherwise nari would have a 5.4 on here ✨✨
This place deserves its Michelin star. The food, ambience, and service were all incredible. I’ll be returning. Highly recommend for both dates and group dinners.
Amazing restaurant!
Food too spicy! The taste of all dishes was completely covered by spiciness! Definitely not a good experience
Best food ever !!!
Kind and caring service, with excellent food too. They struck the right chord with birthday wishes. Sweet without embarrassment. The Prik king gai was my favorite! Enjoyed the Sawari and Viyada cocktails, but found the Benja a bit dull, flavor-wise. Also wasn't a big fan of the Padam flavored icecream, but that's just me.
I’ve dined at one, two and three Michelin stars and I am surprised this is a one star. Almost all dishes were too salty as many of the other reviewers mentioned.
Pros:
- love the creativity. Melon salad with flavors I would have expected of a traditional papaya salad. Very cool.
- the pork jowl and squid dish has great flavors. The meat was perfection.
Cons:
-so salty! Why?! It just ruins it. Even my partner is a salt phene and he found it too salty
- service was surprisingly bad for a one Michelin star restaurant. I’ve gotten better service at restaurants for 1/10th of the bill cost. 3 different service staff would go by our table and NOT clear plates that were obviously empty. We had to constantly rearrange dishes on the table so we could put plates with food on them in front of us to eat instead of reaching over across the table. One server asked if we’d like to see a dessert menu and I had to explain that we chose the tasting menu so it comes with dessert. Another server asked if we need another drink when we just placed a drink order with a different. Why are they so disorganized and not in sync? The staff are nice but the place suffers from poor management and training.
- interesting that a one Michelin star place asks people to pack their own food in baggies. I’m all about that extra meal for home and expect to pack it at restaurants where I’m paying say $50/person but when a table for two is paying over $400 for the meal, I’m a bit surprised.
disappointing food and overall experience at nari. out of all of the michelin-level meals i’ve enjoyed, this has to have been my worst experience. not only did many of the dishes fall flat (like many other diners, we found many of the dishes to be much too salty and lacking body, while others, like the squid and pork jowl, felt disjointed and of lost potential), but we were rubbed the wrong way by the service we received after finding a hair in one of our dishes (the mushroom laab). a hair in a dish should really never happen in a restaurant of this level, but mistakes happen, and we can accept that—but when bringing it up to a server, we were taken aback when he sighed, cleared one of our plates, and then stuck his hand right in front of one of us to “give [him] the hair, i need to take it to the chef.” the tone and verbiage were so brash, borderline patronizing, and there was no apology, it almost made us feel like we did something wrong for finding the hair. they did end up sending out a fresh dish and taking it off of the bill (the bare minimum at an establishment like this) and another server came by to say “sorry about that hiccup” (i don’t know if this could be called a hiccup, really), but again, we just felt uncomfortable for the rest of our meal. will not be dining here again.
The food is not delicious
Food was not balanced in terms of flavor. Most dishes were way too salty or spicy or too strong in an another sense, and not in a good way. If you dilute a dish with enough rice, it becomes palatable though, so there’s just some fine tuning to be had. Secondly, the menu layout made no sense; it was split into 2 sections, but both sections had both smaller and larger portions, and both were heavy on the palate.
Unfortunately will not be returning, given the plethora of other restaurants in JTown with better food and value.
The food was amazing. Great unique flavors.
I have been to several Michelin restaurants in the bay area and yet this one was a unique experience. Lackluster only begins to describe my experience.
We had the tasting menu, many dishes were oversalted. The bombay curry especially felt overly salty and the spice profile was strong but unpleasant.
That was a common theme throughout the items, intense chilli flavors that seemed to serve minimal purpose.
Some of the items were very greasy, I had a tummy ache the next day.
The ambiance was mediocre.
Some of the waiting staff seemed to be unfamiliar with the menu. Additionally, they gave me an alcoholic beverage in the place of a non alcoholic one. When asked what drink I received they were uncertain.
Definitely not a Michelin experience
Delicious food - We got the fried fish, lamb, squid and pork, and fried chicken.
Unique drinks - We got the gin drink and a fruity one with ginger beer. They were both pretty good
Thoughtful staff - Very friendly and attentive. They labeled our friend’s menu with his birthday!
Good but they need to create better desserts and some dishes were too salty.
We did the tasting menu. Every dish was delicious except for the raw fish curry one, which didn't have nearly the same depth of flavor as the others. The biggest issue we had is that it felt like the amount of food served was way too much for us to eat. Normally this would be a good thing, but at the price point I think I would have rather had one or two less dishes (or had each one be smaller) and made it cost less. As it stands I'd probably recommend just ordering individual dishes, and saving a bunch of money.
It was also a bit confusing to us how many more dishes were coming, we were pretty taken aback when we were already nearly full and 5 more full sized curry dishes arrived.
Service was excellent and loved the decor inside.
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary there. We went for the chefs menu.
Starting from the positive: the environment and vibe is good, love the indoor green plants, tasteful designs.
Now comes to food: it is SALTY SALTY SALTY! I’ve lived in Thailand for 2 months and traveled across the country never have I had such salty food, for EVERY course! We had to keep sipping into our drinks during the entire dinner in order to keep up with the food. It is salty to the extent that you can’t taste the other spices / the flavor of the food.
At last, the dessert was good (which was the only thing that wasn’t too salty).
Service was okay, not great, our waiter was kind but she said it is what their food should taste like when asked about the saltiness. She said there’s nothing she could do when asked about having the kitchen modify salt level for our other courses (and didn’t even try). Waiters were chitchatting right in front of our table and laughed out loud several times (right in front of our table).
Anyway, I am better off with Thai street food. Not to mention how much they charge for the food and service while refusing to modify the food even when it was so salty that it feels inedible to me.
Please, someone do something to change your food. Train your service team so they could bring you what customers are saying. Do not hide under this Michelin star and serve mediocre unacceptable food.
This Thai themed restaurant is a perfect spot to celebrate occasions!
The food was amazing and flavourful.
These starters are a must try
Pork squid jowl their popular must try definitely perfectly caramelised pork
Asparagus salad their must try
Even main course and dessert was really Really good
For main course had lAmb messara served with rice which is very rich and full of flavours and spices. The meat was perfectly cooked extremely soft and melted in the mouth.
The dessert was appetising and one must order if they love chocolate
A slightly expensive place but the taste was worth it
I don't often have thai but decided to give Nari a try. The vibe was nice as was the decor and service was friendly.
We had the pink lady apple salad with puffed shrimps, nice but be warned very spicy and it's a shame neither our server or menu indicated the level of heat. We also ordered the seafood curry with crackers which was good.
For mains we ordered the black cod curry and the aubergine curry both were good but the aubergine curry stood out for me. It's a shame because we requested a paratha / roti but was told the chef would decline our request. The paratha / puri comes with a dish if you order the chefs choice menu BUT unfortunately we could not have this because it was meat based and it was not halal.
I am surprised for a michelin star restaurants the chef could not accommodate a simple request.
The cost came to approx £130.00 for 2 people, out of which approximately £30.00 or more was taxes and tip. Eating out in San Francisco is expensive.
Our bill did not include any drinks save for sparkling water.
Excellent food, great service, be ready for some spice...good was interesting and fun.
Over spiced and over priced. My wife and I each found hair in our food. Seems like a place well past its due date.
I am very surprised that an expensive, Michelin-starred restaurant can't accommodate for allergies in an equitable way.
Some people in our parties were allergic to peanuts and shellfish. The appetizer was puff shrimp on apple slice, and the restaurant adjusted by bringing them just an apple slice. For one of the entrees, instead of having any replacements, they just told us "yea you won't have this course but there's other dishes coming".
The tasting menu is $200+ per person once you count drinks, and the people in my party with allergies were quite disappointed (and I too on their behalf.)
For the rest, service was great, and the cocktails were outstanding. Most of the food was good, the Fried Eggplant was the best dish.
Food actively didn’t taste good for me, and I felt that it costed way too much given that.
Eggplant and branzino were my favorites but everything was amazing. 11/10
Delicious food and wonderful service. Outstanding wine menu. The food is unexpectedly on the spicier side, so be warned.
Since I cannot give 0 star, the one star goes to the service and the pastry only.
Unfortunately we ordered chef's selection which everyone hates --- too late to see the reviews. My taste is on the salty side already, but EVERY single dish is just way to salty! It's almost like dipping the food in the salt for every item, cannot taste the original food flavor like at all.
The only thing that's not salty is their rice, pastry, and squid which I think it's just because it's hard to season compared to other ingredients. I have never had such salty food for the entire sitting in my life. I don't get why it got a star or so, but the food is just mediocre and the price is ridiculous. I also wouldn't try to justify there're other dishes are not as salty coz the chef's selection menu covers a lot items on their menu, including the popular squid and pork jowl. The eggplant curry tastes spicy and bitter, even the salad has too much fish sauce or salt which is unbearable.
Oh the drink is ok only --- the cocktail has minimal alcohol and the mango lassi is just like any other restaurant.
Would not recommend this place at all.
The dishes at Nari are delicious and well worth the price! The staff is always so friendly too :)
Were forced to leave the restaurant during our first appetizer because the scooter we brought is a "fire hazard", which the staff conveniently didn't inform us until after we checked in, were seated and then ordered. The owner and the waitress also refused to offer viable alternatives for storing our scooter despite us asking multiple times if there are other safe locations within the restaurant or the hotel to store. For what it’s worth, there is plenty of space on the second floor - only three or four groups were seated. They told us instead one of us could leave to park the scooter in the streets, while the rest of us can stay, which is beyond unreasonable as (1) our scooter could be stolen by homeless people on the streets, and (2) we are not going out on a Friday so we can abandon one of our friends and have dinner by ourselves. The fact that the staff refused to work with us to find realistic solutions is unprofessional, disappointing and potentially discriminatory (we are all Asians). This is not what I expect of a Michelin- starred restaurant - a self-appointed campaign of fire hazard which doesn’t exist. This is not my first time at Nari, but will definitely be my last one.
We started with the crispy sticky rice salad with sour pork sausage and ginger. Spicy! Good tasting, but a tiny bit over salted. The chili lime grilled squid and pork jaw was absolutely fantastic. We also had the crispy chicken with spicy curry paste and pole beans. The lemon zest on top was delicious. Highly recommend this place in the iconic hotel kabuki in Japan town.
We were pretty excited visiting this restaurant from all the extraordinary reviews we’ve read. Had their signature dishes black cod curry, crispy fried chicken and squid & pork jowl. Would say all three dishes were extremely good although a tad too salty for our liking. Overall still an excellent restaurant with great food and ambience. Would recommend to give them a visit
some of the best thai food i’ve had! every dish was amazing and exactly what i would imagine a californian-thai fusion place would be like. must get dishes are branzino, aubergine curry and priking gai. save some room for dessert since the dreaming of lod chong is a must try! great for special occasions as an upscale option.
service
pretty good but more on the professional side. waitress was attentive and servers explained each dish as it arrived
environment
modern decorations with lots of wooden accents and high ceilings. loved the ceramics they served each dish on
drinks
vasathi: must get if you like lemongrass, and refreshing cocktails
savitri: delicious! would get again, nari’s take on whiskey sour
orapim: loved the hint of tomato flavor and slight savoryness of this cocktail. not too sweet.
pikul: recommend if you like old fashioned. spirit forward. loved the toasted marshmallow.
food
squid and pork jowl: highly recommend! the squid and pork perfectly complement each other and both cooked well. pork was juicy and flavorful and squid had good smoky flavor.
khao yum kluk: fried rice with fried anchovies. love that this dish had a spicy kick to it and also the crunchiness of the rice itself. really flavorful overall
scallop yum gati: dish was good but a little too pricy for what you get. scallops were fresh though.
nom tok moo: the pork was well cooked and juicy but the sauce was too salty. would skip next time.
miang pla: everyone recommends the branzino and it was a well made dish! fish was perfectly fried but still juicy inside and the lemongrass ginger flavor was perfect. i do wish there was more sauce to it since it was a little dry when eaten as a wrap
crispy eggplant curry: some of the best curry sauce ive ever had. had the perfect balance of creaminess, spice, salt, and acidity. however, the eggplant was a little underwhelming. it was well fried but lacked flavor when not eaten with the curry. didn’t really add much to the dish
priking gai: must get! the chicken is so crispy and flavorful.
beef curry: not spicy but so tender and flavorful.
dreaming of lod chong: the best dessert i’ve ever had in a restaurant. i’m a pandan fiend and loved the play on different textures with the chunk of ice to the smooth consistency of the ice cream to the slightly gelatinous coconut cream at the bottom. the ratio of pandan to coconut was perfect and nothing was too overpowering.
If there’s any complaints possible is that the Chef’s pick was too much food. The lamb Massaman curry was unbelievable. It is quite possibly the best thing I’ve ever eaten. It was a fantastic meal with fantastic service. You cannot go wrong eating here.
The brazino and the drinks were amazing
My recent experience at Nari was unfortunately marred by a series of unfortunate events and an unexpected lack of professionalism from the management, particularly from the manager, Katie.
Upon arrival, there was a hiccup with my reservation; the staff couldn't locate it despite my confirmation. Nevertheless, I was promptly seated as there were available tables. This hiccup was forgivable, considering the restaurant had open spots and managed to accommodate me.
However, the real disappointment came later when I discovered a no-show charge on my account. Confused and rightfully frustrated, I promptly contacted the restaurant to address the error. To my surprise, instead of a genuine apology or an effort to rectify the situation, I received a response from the manager, Katie, that was nothing short of unprofessional.
In my reply, I clarified that I did visit the restaurant on the specified day but noted that the food was too spicy for my taste. Rather than acknowledging the inconvenience or attempting to resolve the issue, Katie's response was shockingly dismissive. She informed me that they didn't want me back because I supposedly "don't appreciate Thai spices." This kind of response is not only unprofessional but also lacks the basic courtesy one would expect from a customer service representative.
While taste preferences may vary, the customer's experience and feedback should be handled with tact and consideration. Dismissing a customer for expressing a personal preference is not the hallmark of a customer-centric establishment.
Regrettably, the unfortunate incident overshadowed any positive aspects the restaurant might have offered. It's disheartening to encounter such a lack of professionalism from a manager, and it certainly leaves a lasting negative impression. I would caution potential diners to be wary of Nari until they address their customer service issues and adopt a more customer-friendly approach.
I personally enjoyed this spot quite a bit. It was really exciting to step into the space that has been designed to feel, in my opinion, both elemental and austere but simultaneously well appointed and inviting. The service was mostly good, we had a medium sized group and they were able to accommodate us with short notice. One of my friends was unfortunately being difficult and I thought our server handled the situation positively. Bold and assertive flavors that feel deliberate and well considered. The execution of the food was good, the food was prompt and well seasoned. I think this restaurant does a pretty good job.
Unfortunately the food is quite spicy and the kitchen does not accommodate for lower spice levels. Flavors overall were great but the spice level was a challenge for me. Go here if you tolerate spice. Don't go here if you are sensitive to spice.
Didn’t like the food :(
Would come back to SF just for this place. The food, service, and atmosphere were phenomenal.
Wow wow wow - incredible experience me and epic service. Be sure to ask for HUD. The slow roasted pork was probably the best that I’ve ever had in my life.
Really interesting and flavorful Thai cuisine served in a chic setting. The food is salty, sweet, sour, savory and spicy but in all the best ways possible. The branzino and the pork jowl squid combo are the reasons to come here. Delicious stuff. Although the pork chop was my favorite, nicely grilled and served with a sour salty sauce. Awesome. The surprise hit was the charred cabbage with fish sauce. Shockingly tasty. The scallops were whatever and the sardines were inedible, they all can’t be winners right. The Bday candle and personalized menu was a nice touch making our special occasion that much better. After everything was done the service ended up being top notch. A great food destination for a special occasion or a romantic night out.
Dos thumbs up 👍👍
I was a little skeptical when I saw it was a hotel but the second you walk in, the vibe is so cool you forget it’s in a hotel. The cocktails felt inventive and fresh. And the food was traditional Thai flavors but not traditional dishes. Highly recommend the aubergine and branzino. Also, not a place for people who can’t handle spice!
We went with great expectations. The service was great as well as the ambiance. Unfortunately the food was a letdown. The creative element was there but the execution was not. It was off the charts too salty on some dishes and too sour on others. Almost inedible. Sorry Nari.
The first thing that hit me after how beautiful this restaurant is, was the smell.
Last summer my dog had an ear infection and that’s what the restaurant overwhelmingly smelled like… which is…a bit off-putting.
After we were there for a bit I think we got used to the smell, but it turns out we were smelling whatever curry sauce they use for two of their dishes: Scallop yum gati and the Priking gai.
I love Thai food, have eaten it all over the world and in Thailand so I tried to be open minded, but the smell was so strong I couldn’t leave it on my plate while we were waiting for the next course. Maybe it was a bad batch? I’d be shocked if no one else smelled it because both my date and I noticed it immediately.
Service was superb and our waiter make some helpful suggestions about portions and pairings. I would go back for cocktails, but if I walked in and smelled yeasty earwax again I’d skip dinner.
If you want the authentic flavors from Thailand, this is the place. Absolutely everything was a 10/10
Wonderful service and atmosphere at NARI. Right next to the japantown square. I enjoyed the appetisers a lot but the lamb shank was not quite to my taste. Presentation was beautiful and there was a lot of flavour, but just not quite to my liking. I went in thinking it was entirely Thai, but the place is rather Thai inspired so everything was a lot more creative and thus depending on your tastebuds, you could enjoy dishes. Definitely worth exploring and finding out some really creative dishes.
Oh and the dessert was incredible. Couldn’t put a finger on what exactly it was, but pleasantly surprised. Although it could have done with less ice on top.
They have great variety of options in their menu. We ordered laab hed, prik king gai and gaeng bumbai aubergine. My husband really liked all 3 of them. I personally liked their gaeng bumbai aubergine with the rice. The eggplants were really crispy and the sauce/gravy was flavorful. I liked the other dishes too but felt the laab hed and oruk king was little salty and sour as per my taste. Prik king gai had some strong flavor, maybe of dried shrimp or something which I couldn’t enjoy much else chicken was tender. Overall our experience was good. If i could visit again, shall definitely order gaeng bumbai aubergine and will try other dishes too.
Had a reservation for 2 on a Friday and the atmosphere is great! I recognize the restaurant is hyped and they need to turn the tables fast but it’s very annoying being rushed to order and having to order everything at the same time without even knowing the size of the dishes or what kind of flavors we would like best.
Talking about the dishes, they were of course fresh and well cooked as you’d expect from a place like this and the $ you’re paying. I did enjoy some unique combinations and a hint of spicy in the dishes
Either go knowing what you want and expecting to be kicked out in 1h or try it at a later time or less busy day 🫡
The contemporary Thai food at this restaurant is outstanding! It was an excellent choice to bring our Greek chef friend from Athens, Greece, while visiting San Francisco. The service was attentive and the parking was easy. Thank you to kitchen chefs for welcoming and engaging with Chef Lefteris Zafeiropolis . Now he has stories to tell back home his experience with Nari SF
Squid and pork jowl was just fantastic. Seafood curry and laab were also excellent.
We had an absolutely awful experience at Nari. Wait staff were picking up our plates while we were still eating. We knew they wanted the table back at 8:30. At 8:10 we could visibily and in sight see our waiter asking his crew to speed us up (even though we had the check on the table - before we asked for it, slammed down on our table with a little extra umph, too).
They could have just asked us to move upstairs and offered a drink or a desert and we would have happily gotten up to help the restaurant. Instead we were treated awfully during the second half of our meal, which was a very important business dinner that we chose Nari for because we like Thai.
The food was good - really good - but the experience was so poor it makes it difficult to believe we'd return.
Excellent preparation and wonderful service. Food is on par with some of the best Thai food anywhere.
Food is always fresh and delicious. David and Sue are always friendly and on top of things. Great menu options for everyone in our family. We eat there 3-4 times a month. Highly recommend.
Marc was very kind, helpful, and insightful! Thank you!
Not sure what makes this a Michelin star restaurant as both food and services were surprisingly below par. Menu is extremely small and limiting, not a problem if quality is top notch, but unfortunately not here. The food we ordered was mostly overly heavily spiced and too sour. Very overly priced as some of the tiny shared dishes have very little quantity of the main ingredients, overly spiced and served with lots of rice so you can wash everything down and feel full after paying $100/pp. There is a difference between a sophisticated palate and just plain use of too much spices and this restaurant is more the latter.
It does feel like it’s operated like a factory restaurant where recipe is pre-fixed, sauce is pre-made, with no chef monitoring quality and making minor adjustments to customers’ request. They can’t even adjust spice level or take out something like chili in the dishes - very unusually limiting to higher quality shared dishes restaurant that we have visited as you’d want most dishes to be enjoyed by everybody around the table. The kitchen can be seen from the sidewalk and it certainly looked that way with a group of younger kitchen staff throwing food on plates and no chef checking every dish before it leaves the kitchen.
Service was ok at the beginning but halfway through, it took a downturn. Staff came by to collect empty dishes and tried to collect dishes still with food without asking while we were in the middle of eating. We had to literally stop her from removing politely. We understood that there was a time limit for our seating and tried our best to push through. 1/2 hour before our “time limit”, our server dropped some takeout boxes on our table and walked away. No one requested them and he said nothing. Usually you’d get a polite reminder that the table needed to be returned soon, but not this restaurant. Servers acted like angry teenagers ready to throw a tantrum any time…
Phew! What an unpleasant and odd experience at a Michelin starred restaurant. Felt like twilight zone…
Will not return, even on Halloween
Delicious! Nice strong flavors with a good variety of dishes at different spice levels. We enjoyed discovering new dishes we've never had before.
Great food and lots of it. Well worth it.
Excellent food. Great helpful service.
Unique and delicious Thai restaurant with a very modern vibe. We had the pork croquettes, the beef tartare and the crispy chicken. The croquettes were delicious, but pretty expensive for what you get. The tartare was very spicy, and wouldn’t hold up to an original tartare. The crispy chicken was the best, super tasty but also spicy. Great spot to visit for a unique Thai experience.
Food was amazing. We had the tasting menu and wine pairing. If you are hungry, get the tasting menu. Do not pair the wines. Order your own by the glass. Was not impressed with the wines or the order they were served. The wine person was a nice person but seemed a bit inexperienced when it came to the wines her was serving us. Especially for a 1 star Michelin.
Excellent upscale Thai restaurant with traditional Thai dishes. Very good food, although a bit pricy, which is expected considering the setting and service. The dishes are perfectly executed. The waiters were knowledgeable when it came to dietary restrictions, you can make some dishes vegan and some of them already are.
Pim is an enchantress.
We had Blue Flower Limeade, Illa and Thai Iced Tea, the limeade was too bitter for my taste. But the other 2 drinks were decent.
From the first course we ordered Gaeng Gradang Tod, Yum Tawai and Laab Hed. The portion size of the pork croquettes was much much smaller than I expected, and it was too rich and meaty for the small bite and the pickles and bitter greens that came with it were not sufficient to cut through the richness. The Yum Tawai was nice and refreshing. The Laab Hed's fresh mint and toasted rice powder which was almost like puffed rice and the spice kick reminded us of Indian street food, really liked the cucumber to balance the heat from the mushroom spice mix.
And from the second course we got the Gaeng Bumbai Eggplant and the Cabbage. We were warned the eggplant would be spicy and we would probably need the cabbage to balance it and ordered the cabbage after trying the spicy Laab Hed. Our server was accommodating to let us order the cabbage pretty late. The eggplant dish wasn't that spicy infact it had some sweet notes as well, the eggplant itself was really crispy. We were so glad we ordered the cabbage, it was such a simple dish yet so delicious.
For dessert we ordered the Chocolate Loka. The finishing was not clean the mirror glaze had a tiny finger tip shaped dip. The chocolate mousse was set too hard which made it less spoon friendly. The strawberry makrut gelee added a nice tartness to the dessert but our entremet had its gelee slightly lopsided making one side of the dessert excessively tart and the other side just chocolate on chocolate missing the strawberry element completely.
The decor didn't feel cohesive, and the restaurant was very noisy. The first 2 courses were good barring the pork croquettes but the overall experience did not feel like a 1 star Michelin experience at all.
We've just returned from what was a rather average experience at Nari. Given that this has a Michelin star AND is a Thai food restaurant (which we love), expectations were high, but sadly, this didn't quite live up to the hype.
First off, the hostess/server (Jane, I think? That was the name written on the bill) was a bit brusque and condescending throughout, and twisted my arm into having a version of a Negroni that I found far too sweet for my tastes - this despite telling her that I didn't like sweet cocktails at all, and asking for the least sweet drink available. Having said that, my husband's lime cocktail was very nice, so the bartender(s) certainly know their stuff, even if the server did not understand the brief.
For food, we, again, were arm twisted by Jane into ordering the melon starter, which, again, was a bit too sweet for a savoury item. The three additional dishes we had on top of that were entirely excessive for our appetites. This is despite checking with Jane regarding the portion sizes, and it is galling that we were misled into thinking we hadn't ordered enough food.
So the three stars are for the quality and taste of some of the food, specifically the pork jowl (exceptionally succulent - the best thing we ate here) and squid, miang pla (branzino - very tasty but a far too huge portion) and gaeng hung lay (beef cheeks - a nice, homely curry but far too overpriced). It's quite decent food but with excessive amounts of seasoning and a rather violent clash of flavours that are not exactly harmonious. Having eaten a huge amount of stupendous Thai food over the years, both within and outside of various parts of Thailand, for a fraction of the price, suffice to say that Nari seemed to be yet another sad example of an overrated, rather pretentious Michelin starred establishment, and not one we would recommend to anyone.
The caviar was great! Then everything fell apart. I’m awake at 2am oversalted out of my head. There is not enough water on the planet to slake this thirst😂 Wow. So many servers for such a tightly packed, though Berkeley in the 70s vibed space. Sadly wanted to like this place and didn’t. 😓
Terribly overpriced. We got the chef's pick menu which seemed like the biggest scam I've ever been to. The food was good but not worth 4x the price at your local Thai place. Some items were too salty which was almost inedible. I don't know how this place is worthy of a Michelin star as it's so much lower in quality of service, food, and creativity compared to other Michelin stars around the world.
Second biggest scam was the chef pick menu. We paid $250 for the chef's pick. If chosen a la carte it would be $161. The off menu items were two pieces of duck pastries, tiny summer salad, two tiny bites for amuse bouche, and two tiny bowls of two bites desserts. Definitely was not worth $90 all in all.
Seriously do not go to this place. You will regret it.
Food was overall really tasty and a lot of things I'd never had before. You definitely need to expect a LOT of flavor profiles mixed together, but if you're familiar with Thai dishes/flavors, you should thoroughly enjoy it! The squid + pork jowl was one of the best dishes- flavors were incredible together and everything was cooked perfectly. Also really enjoyed the branzino and the eggplant curry (had just the right kick of spice for me!).
I’ve been to many michelin star restaurants in the world and this Nari is pretty disappointing to say the least.
The chef put too much lemongrass in the Khao Tung & Ngop.
The beef cheek contained a very strong ginger flavor.
The crispy chicken was way too salty.
The presentation was all pretty good but the taste was just mediocre Thai food at best.
Authentic southeast Asian food. But I don’t understand the Michelin star. :( You can basically get all of the flavors and tastes with 10% of the price you pay here. This is average southeast Asian street food. And the desert is absurd… just look at the crushed ice, it literally just taste like crushed ice… I was originally giving it 3 stars, but taking 1 away because of the crushed ice.
I had a high expectation, since they just got a star, but was profoundly disappointed.
Food was way too salty. Cocktails had very bland tastes. The host had an attitude problem. I would avoid going there.
Underwhelming
I left with mixed feelings here. I’m not sure it’s Michelin star quality, and there are for sure better places in the city for that kind of experience but if your expectation is a hotel restaurant then you’ll be pleased. Honestly I think front of house here just needs to try harder.
The good:
The cocktails were insanely good and reasonably priced by sf standards. 100% come here for cocktails and a casual bite. You’ll be stoked.
The aubergine curry and the larb were amazing. Punchy flavors and well presented.
The wine list is interesting and suited our taste for natural wines.
The staff did a great job marking dishes that suited our dietary restrictions and we didn’t feel restricted at all.
The bad:
bathrooms: were dirty and outdated. It was like an airport bathroom. Given how refined the design is in the dining room I expected a more thoughtful touch here and dirty floors are just not where it’s at.
Host: there was no one at the door when we arrived and when they showed up they told us our table wasn’t ready with no suggestion of what to do. We had to inquire if there was a bar or somewhere to hang out, which there is and it’s a very cool space.
Server attention: it was not a full house but still glasses ran dry and napkins were not reset when ppl got up. I’m not fussy about that stuff but it was a bit disappointing.
Overall there’s some great food here but don’t expect the experience to match it, unless somehow we really hit them on an off night.
I wouldn’t come here expecting fine dining. Grab a drink and a curry upstairs and go elsewhere if you’re looking for a refined experience.
Phenomenal food and service
The food quality was way below our expectations. Overall all the dishes were so salty that I had to drink a lot of water!
Beside that the service was really bad. We ordered a drink but never received that in our table yet we were charged for the drink at the end! Also, no body ever checked on us while eating, they didn’t even refill our water for a long time and we had to ask them to refill it. I also had my service dog with me so they forced us to sit in upstairs but no one ever told us the menu they are serving upstairs is missing multiple options until we discovered it by looking at yelp reviews and they said can not brings those food for us upstairs!
Overall It was by far one of the low food and service quality restaurants we’ve been recently. Not recommended!
Nari is a high end Thai-California fusion restaurant in San Francisco. The food is thoughtfully prepared with amazing presentation. The tastes are superb with such vibrant colors.
The service was outstanding. So professional but extremely friendly at the same time.
And the establishment is ultra hip. Lots of open space and light on the main floor. And a darker vibe upstairs.
Can't say enough about this Michelin recognized restaurant.
5 x 🥘🥘🥘🥘🥘
Everything is too salty and service is mediocre. No way near the other 1 Michelin star restaurants I’ve been before. I just came back from Bangkok where I went to Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin, a fantastic 1 Michelin star restaurant so I had high expectations for Nari. Unfortunately, it’s very underwhelming.
Nari has been on our list for a while now and we were just so excited to try it. Strong start with the drinks and the pork jowl & squid with sticky rice. Delicious. However, the vibes with our server, Jane? seemed a little off. Had a simple question of whether half portions were an option and was told “yes half options are available in the form of the chefs tasting menu as the dishes presented are smaller”. Yes we understand what the tasting menu option is but that’s not what we are asking. A simple no would suffice.
Placed our order and decided to keep a copy of the menu for reference/to put additional orders in. Our server weirdly had to grab the menu that was in front of my partner to explain that they “suggested” we keep the menu on the banquet so that we have room for our dishes. I think we have the capacity to move the menu on our own when dishes arrive. Again, weird vibes.
Proceeded to have the rest of our dishes. The eggplant curry, caramelized fish sauce cabbage & priking gai. Again, food is great. When we were done and asked to have our leftovers boxed up, our server gave us the boxes to pack it up ourselves. Didn’t take this place to be a “box it up yourself” kinda place but if this is what management has decided, so be it.
All in all, the service that we received tonight did not sit well with us. Nothing bad happened at all, but again, real weird vibes with out server. Shoutout to the kitchen for the amazing food, but unfortunately due to our weird experience service wise, we shall not be returning.
Definitely not your average Thai place. This has its on twist on Thai cuisine and defines Thai Chic! 👌🏼. Each dish is the perfect portion so you can order multiple things and share with your favorite people! I can’t wait to go back 😁
I got the Gaeng Gradang Tod, Yum Tawai, Garlic cabbage, Gaeng Hung Lay. All delicious 😋
Great atmosphere and service.
But the food is below my expectations. Most dishes are too salty or oily I need to drink a lot of water and still feel uncomfortable after going home. Ideally Thai food should have a more balance of all the flavors for the strong contrast. However with salty leading the flavors, the whole dish is just not as vivid anymore. I wish they can make it less salty and maybe more spicy/sour.
I don’t think Nari deserves one Michelin Star. (1) service was mediocre. Our waiter forgot our drink order but it showed up in the bill. The waiter showed no apology for missing the drink. Also the waiter was not attentive. No one refilled our water until we called them. Additionally we brought our dog and asked water for our dog and they claimed they did not have water bowl for our dog. Finally if you brought your dog you had to sit upstairs where they did not serve certain dishes. The reservation person did not let us know in advance.(2) the food was also mediocre for the price. The curry seafood had a paste texture and the sauce was bland. The curry eggplant was super oily and 4 pieces of eggplant cost almost $40 which is the cost of a well made branzino. I have had better Thai food in the city with better price and service. I would not recommend this place.
