Authentic and delicious Thai food in the heart of Carmel Mountain Ranch.
Only came to try the Thai tea. It’s s absolutely delicious and authentic! Perfectly balanced sweetness and rich flavor make it a must-try for anyone who loves Thai cuisine. I’ll definitely be back for the food. It has that mom & pop shop vibe where you know the food is made with love
So we haven’t had Thai food since we left Okinawa , Japan, and also visited Thailand. Once you’ve been there, you’re kind of skeptical about eating anywhere else. In fact, I still haven’t even eaten sushi in California yet. So we took a chance on this place mainly because we had to drop my son off somewhere close and we had an hour to kill and we were hungry so we stopped in.
We looked at some of the reviews and decided to follow suit, I ordered the drunken noodles and my wife got the curry with chicken she also had a cup of soup
For starters, I ordered the fried vegetable eggrolls. Let me tell you they were delicious and if that was setting, the tone for the evening we were in for a culinary delight.
First, let me get some things out of the way the place is small, even though they have outdoor seating so expect to wait maybe at least 10 to 15 minutes for a table when they are crowded. They’re in a strip mall. Parking is sometimes tight especially during the busy time. They do a pretty good takeout business from what I observed but best to be patient when looking for parking and also looking for a seat especially if you’re bringing a party of more we were only two people eating that night so we seated rather quickly. Our waiters name was Gabriel and he couldn’t have been more helpful. We loved everything on the menu and he helped us select some of his for us to try which were right on point as I mentioned earlier.
Drunken noodles are awesome. Fried vegetable sprite eggrolls were amazing and my wife soup and main dish or fantastic. Everything came out warm and delicious. I recommend trying this place. It’s pretty cool and very reasonable on the budget. You’re probably wondering when I go back again?
Well, we did the next night only because my son loves Thai food and we wanted to see if he enjoyed this restaurant which he did. We did order one additional menu item this go around, which was for dessert the mango sticky rice. It was so delicious right on point just as we remember it when we had it in Chang Mai.
So it looks like we found a pretty good place. I attached some pictures didn’t do any video this time. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Good luck.
Oh my God!! I can’t believe !! I love this restaurant too much ! Every thing is so good! I really recommend drunken noodles! It’s amazing! I’m into this noodle. And curry is also good!
I’m gonna have drunken noodles dream!!So I’m looking forward to sleep tonight! Maybe I’m gonna be crazy! Be careful every one!!🤬 📣
Thank you 💗
Food is good but not the best. Good enough if you are craving for Thai food.
Service: staff were ok except one that seemed to be the manager or related to the owner. She was rude and annoyed. Our first time there and when we asked about the menu, instead of answering she said I will be back in 5min when you make your decision! I was shocked! Other servers did not seem to have job satisfaction, maybe because of terrible manager!?
Atmosphere is a bit too loud. Too much noise comes from the kitchen.

Coconut soup is outstanding. Perfect blend of flavors. This is a favorite for me now at Urban Thai.
Food is okay, ordered takeout several times. Quality differs depending on how busy they are which I get but like I’m spending around 20 bucks and don’t want to play roulette with the quality of my food.
Food, service, mellow atmosphere & music were all 10’s in my book. Great little find!
Great spot. The Crab fried rice is awesome.
Never disappoint.
Great food and service. The coconut soup is killer
Atmosphere was nice and mellow. Had drunken noodles which was ok but not worth all the hype. No issues about the service. Probably won’t return as there are an abundance of really good Thai restaurants in SD.
Six stars for the food. Minus one star for putting the order button right on my face on the website
Not bad. Decent for lunch.
Not a bad pad thai but also not the best in town. Papaya salad was not bad as well but not so flavorful.
Came into Urban Thai Kitchen to take a look and then I ordered dinner to go .. The food was amazing along with the service and atmosphere! I I was pleasantly surprised to find this place. I will definitely return!

Fried rice with duck was fire
On the plus side, the restaurant stays open until 11:30 PM, which is great. However, there are some areas that need improvement. The noodles were much too salty, which was disappointing. Additionally, on busy Friday or Saturday nights, it’s clear that one server can’t handle all the customers alone. The owner should consider hiring an additional waiter—one for indoor service and one for outdoor—to ensure better service for everyone. No one wants to feel the ignored or treated indifferent, especially in hungry situation.
We love this place! The yellow curry is the best, I've learned to ask for no spice lol
Many times I've ordered a 1 ot 2 and have had to cut it with half and half just to dull it down. Other then that the food is spectacular!
What a great place! Good service, with good Thai food. We had the chicken panang and the crispy dark meat chicken panang, and both were delicious.
Surprised how busy the area was in all the restaurants. But we got right in and servicecwas great. Food was also.
Rude staff! The food was inedible. We ordered the Pad Thai and it literally was one big lump of disgusting noodles with zero flavor. They did not apologize for an hour long wait and refused to credit the bill so we won't be back.
VERY good food: our favorite Thai restaurant in the Carmel Mt. area! The staff is awesome
Everytime I eat here I love the flavor of the food. Definitely recommend Urban Thai!
The drunken noodles with crispy dark meat chicken is the business. Gotta throw a bunch of that fish sauce on it with the diced peppers, too. The staff is friendly and attentive. More importantly (for me), the restaurant is always clean. Never any dust on the light fixtures, sticky menus, or filthy tables. Oh, and try the Thai sausage as an appetizer. The sticky rice is burning hot and served with all the right accouterments.
Love love this place. The ingredients are fresh and great quality. I love that they don’t use fish sauce, but offer on the side if you want. Most places rely heavily on cheap sauces. I come here because the food is so tasty and fresh, they pride themselves on quality, and the service is great. I also love that they’re open late. Delicious Tom yum soup, papaya salad, and mango sticky rice.
It seems their chef has changed. Got take out today drunken noodle and papaya salad, both had very little taste. Very pricey for inconsistent cooking.
Had drunken noodles with roasted duck and thai basil fried rice with chicken. Taste is good. Would recommend anyone wants to try food here.
Terrible food chicken had bones almost choked asked for a couple extra cookies got one. bill was 50$ for Togo not happy threw most of it out. not going back
Tasty food and friendly service! Got the papaya salad, panang curry with shrimp, and yellow curry with duck.
Went late night for dinner being that we are night owls. And I have to express that the whole staff are very into there work ,wonderful people the best food and the portions are very filling 👌 👍 thanks guys we'll definitely be going there again soon.
Our wedding reception experience at Urban Thai was an absolute dream come true, a magical evening filled with love, laughter, and the most incredible Thai cuisine imaginable.
From the moment we began planning our reception (3 weeks, YES, you heard that right), the owner at Urban Thai made it happen. He went above and beyond to ensure that every detail was taken care of with the utmost care and attention. From customizing the menu to accommodating our guests' dietary preferences, their dedication to excellence was evident every step of the way.
From the moment we enter Urban Thai, you are enveloped in an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality. The decor's intricate Thai artwork sets the stage for an unforgettable dining experience.
The menu at Urban Thai is a testament to the diversity and complexity of Thai cuisine, featuring an extensive selection of dishes that showcase the bold flavors and fresh ingredients characteristic of the region. Each dish is a masterpiece in its own right, expertly prepared and bursting with authentic Thai flavors.
For starters, we delighted in the crispy Coconut Shrimp served with a dipping sauce that left us craving more. And of course, our favorite E-Sarn Style Sausage, served with warm sticky rice.
The pad thai, a classic stir-fried noodle dish featuring tender crispy chicken, and bean sprouts tossed was a standout.
No visit to Urban Thai would be complete without indulging in one of their signature curries. We opted for the Panang curry with chicken with added broccoli, and it did not disappoint. The creamy coconut milk base was infused with aromatic herbs and spices, creating a luscious sauce that enveloped the tender chicken and crisp vegetables, a symphony of flavors that left us longing for seconds.
To round off our adventure, we savored the mango sticky rice, a quintessential Thai dessert that perfectly balances the sweetness of ripe mangoes with the creamy richness of coconut-infused sticky rice a fitting end to a truly remarkable meal.
As the evening progressed, we were treated to a spectacular display of Thai hospitality, with the staff attending to our every need with grace and professionalism. From ensuring that our glasses were always full to seamlessly coordinating the timing of each course, they worked tirelessly to ensure that our reception was nothing short of perfection.
In conclusion, our wedding reception at Urban Thai was an experience we will cherish for a lifetime. From the exquisite cuisine to the impeccable service, every aspect of our special day was executed flawlessly, thanks to the dedication and commitment of the team at Urban Thai. If you're looking for a venue, a seasoned Thai food enthusiast, or even a curious newcomer, a visit to Urban Thai is an absolute must.
UPDATE:
When this place first opened their service, portions, and flavor were the best around, now we wait almost an hour for take out. I paid and extra $4 for noodles and they just put the same portion in a bigger container. I'm so bummed.
This will be our go to Thai place from now on. It was amazing! Big portion and everything just tastes so fresh.
love love love this place! food is always super yummy, the staff is sweet, and the place has a clean industrial look with a semi open kitchen. we love the Tofu Spicy Basil Fried Rice, Green Curry, and Pad Thai and all the vegetarian appetizers! less quantity than a typical Thai place, but far superior quality, freshness, and taste.
Owner took the wrong order, came back to our table to accuse us of not mentioning at order time, refused to leave the table and kept yapping, in the end told us not to come back.
We weren’t going to come back anyway.
What a fantastic experience. Family party of 6. All employees were great, happy and helpful. Food and dessert was amazing. Thank you Don and Yohan.
Went here for a late dinner and it was wonderful! Food and drinks were delicious, staff was kind, and atmosphere was clean and comfortable. I would definitely eat here again!
Had lunch here the other day. Food is very blah. Service was quick and the staff was nice enough. We had the Pad Thai which looked like a it had a red is spaghetti sauce on it. Also had the red curry and crispy chicken larb. The red curry was just ok and the crispy chicken larb left a lot to be desired.
Best Thai food in San Diego, hands down! Never waiting for my food when eating there or ordering online. Incredible service.
Visited this restaurant om my trip to San Diego!! It was excellent will surely recommend this to others and will visit again during my vacation to San Diego
Good curry. Nothing special.
I visited Urban Thai Kitchen with my family and kids for dinner and we had a wonderful time. The restaurant is cozy and modern, with a friendly and attentive staff. We ordered fresh spring rolls, singa beer, thai ice tea, papaya salad, tom kah soup, and crab fried rice. Everything was delicious and well-presented.
The fresh spring rolls were light and refreshing, with a crunchy texture and a peanut sauce that added some sweetness. The singa beer was cold and crisp, a perfect accompaniment to the spicy dishes. The thai ice tea was creamy and aromatic, with a hint of vanilla. The papaya salad was tangy and crunchy, with a balance of sweet, sour, and spicy flavors. The tom kah soup was creamy and fragrant, with coconut milk, lemongrass, and mushrooms. The crab fried rice was flavorful and generous, with chunks of crab meat and eggs.
We enjoyed every bite of our meal and felt satisfied and happy. The portions were reasonable and the prices were fair. The service was fast and courteous, and the staff made us feel welcome and comfortable. We will definitely come back to Urban Thai Kitchen and recommend it to anyone who loves authentic Thai food.
Great Thai food.
One of the best Thai spot in Carmel Mountain.
Wonderful, small restaurant in a Poway shopping center. Great service, fresh food. Loved it!
Their yellow curry and sampler appetizers are very good. They always have great service and are friendly
I had a dinner in this restaurant. The duck was over roasted in the Duncan noodles wok. The noodles had the smell of oil when it is not changed frequently! Lychee lemonade was ok it is controversial. The service was perfect they were smiling asking if we need anything every 5 minutes.Good waiter that served us. Overall 4 for this restaurant.I also had a chocolate lava cake with the coconut ice cream which didn’t taste like coconut ice cream at all!The cake was fine like 4 stars for the cake!Thank You. National Food Critic Mark Merkew!
Excellent food and very friendly service. Everything is super fresh, and flavors are on point. Had papaya salad, lemongrass aoup, and green curry w/shrimp - all were outstanding!
Coconut soup is excellent 👌
Cute place , great food , and reasonably priced . I go to many Thai restaurants . The food has a modern twist . I really liked it !
Excelente todo,deliciosa comida y bebidas

We love Thai food and figured we'd give this place a try since it is nearby my mom's place. We liked the food so much that we ate here a second time during our stay in San Diego. We ordered the drunken noodles, Kai kra pow, and panang curry. The dishes were all great. The crispy dark meat chicken that was in the drunken noodles were tasty. I kept stealing them off of my wife's plate. The panang curry had great flavor but it wasn't spicy enough for me. The server brought some ground chilli for me to add and that helped bring it to the level I was looking for. The Kai kra pow was nice and spicy with great flavor. The yolk from the egg helped bring a richness to the dish. This one was at the right spice level for me. I look forward to coming back again because everything we had was delicious.
Americanized but actually tasty.
We love this restaurant, and we come often I always order the drunken noodles with fried tofu. So good. We also like the basil rice, and my husband said the panang curry with duck was the best he had ever had. The service is great, too.
Some really tasty food here, so will definitely come back. Drunken noodles shrimp, panang curry duck, house salad, mango sticky rice. All delicious. A bit too spicy, slightly too sweet. Green curry chicken was a bit of a miss - low flavor and overcooked chicken. Great service. Fresh ingredients. Nice, casual atmosphere. Clean and modern.
Food is decent except for the soup which is a massacre. They so overheat
boil the Thai coconut milk soup that the chicken is rock hard and stringy.
The wonton soup is even worse because they boil it until the noodles completely disintegrate. Can any restaurant still prepare Asian food the way it should be?
The honey walnut shrimp is awesome and the presentation is as well. The appetizer was something I could have did without but I'm so happy I tried this place.
We enjoyed a birthday dinner at Urban Thai Kitchen. The service was really off, but the staff was friendly. The food was the usual Thai fare, nothing special.
2023-0716: Food was great and service was good.
I got the pineapple rice with shrimp and chicken it was good. I was disappointed in the orange hibiscus drink I ordered. There was nothing that resembled orange or hibiscus in the drink.
A family favorite. Always amazing service and food.
Not an authentic place for Thai food.. not sure what the heck they used for the Larb Chicken but it was so grainy. It felt like I was eating sand with the chicken. The rice looked like microwaved in a bag. I won’t be coming back to this place. People are friendly though. Their cooks are not Thais at all. Other ethnicity. So I should have known that the food won’t be coming out right.. Thai places are either hit or miss… this one is definitely a missed for us…
This was a place with tasty food. The service was quick, though it wasn't busy so that helped.
Love the taste of Thai food……my all time favorite dish is green n yellow Thai curry 🍛
Better than expected. Onions were not undercooked so they did not overpower the food, shrimp were not overcooked, perfect. Surprise peanuts may be dangerous, but the food was tasty.
Lots of choices on the menu. The service was fast. They have a vegan menu too.
I've had a LOT Pad Thai around San Diego and those place had it on point. #1 in fact. Then add the most amazing coconut TomKah soup (add veggies) then throw in some yellow and/or panang curry (add fried rice and white rice) and you have the equivalent of a superfecta win in the Thai culanry experience. Solid 5 stars Urban Thai Kitchen.
One of my best meals in San Diego
High Quality Thai food. Fresh and tasty. Pleasant service staff. Open kitchen layout.
I ordered drunken noodles with number 2 spicy. It was tasty, and I love it.
Great Thai restaurant. A lot more casual than others I've been to but the food was delicious. I had the Tom Kha soup and the fried fish panang curry which was really good.
I had a soup and the salad with minced chicken and a sticky rice.
I have to say, the soup was perfectly balanced. Creamy but not too creamy, mix of sour and sweet, and a scent of a coconut. Not to mention, all the veggies in the bowl were at right condition— not mushy, not crunchy but somewhere in between!
The salad was alright— I didn’t know at first how to eat it with sticky rice. It had layers of cabbages so I used it as a wrap to put sticky rice and chicken on it. Perfect combination! I wish there was more cabbage available because I quickly ran out haha.
Overall, a decent Thai place with introductions to new Thai dishes which I appreciated.
Not worth it. Watery curries with little flavor
Based on good reviews, I went for a take out order for dinner from Urban Thai. Vegetable Lo Mein had more vegetables than the noodles! Taste and spice level were good but this place is quite expensive! Quantity of food was way too less as such and certainly not acceptable for the price. I don’t recommend this place if you are looking to have a satisfying meal cos you will still feel hungry after spending quite a bit on the order!
I’ve never once had to make a google review because normally all my food experiences are pleasant. I did, however, feel compelled to make one for this atrocious food experience. I ordered 2 soups and a curry for delivery, putting in a note for the food to be “extremely mild”, only for it to arrive inedible due to the immense amount of spice. And to add insult to injury, the receipt had “spicy” written on it as if it’s something I had asked for. Never ordering food from here, the blatant disrespect is despicable
Not good Thai food, very salty
Ordered Pad Thai with chicken and pine apple friend rice with tofu. The chicken and tofu were hard to chew on. The taste was about average. I have ordered these multiple times and they were of same quality every time. Not worth spending $15+ dollars a dish to eat something like this
Everything is too sweet, wouldn’t come again.
Incredible food!! I'd drive hours just to come here again.
Overly sugared dishes, typical American Thai food, wouldn't eat again.
Never again! I don’t understand the high reviews on this place. Pot stickers were dried and cold. rolls were cold and no flavor. Pad Thai was not even close to a pad Thai and absolutely awful, cold and sticky. Drunken noodles were the only warm dish and not so bad. On top of it all quite pricy. Very disappointed!
It was my first time here with my husband and we had a great time !
The food is DELICIOUS!!
We ordered the veg potstickers, Thai tea, Thai coconut milk soup, Veg. With tofu drunken noodles and the fried banana with agave and coconut ice cream( picture )This place exceeded our expectations with their quick service and amazing , flavorful food. Loved the fact how the noodles has so little oil and so much flavor!
Beware: Since this is a Thai place , their spice level is different from normal. Pls do let them know your spice tolerance level after telling them your preference. We did a 4/10 spice level.
Overall, loved this place !
Must visit for anyone looking for a really good , quality Thai food.
Fantastic Thai, all dishes are incredible and the staff is welcoming! :)
Overall an excellent dinner to go. The House Salad was fresh and generous; the Won Ton Soup was savory; the Crispy rolls were crispy, indeed; and the Drunken Noodles with Duck and added broccoli was a real treat. In contrast the diet cola was flat; I had to drink tap water at home, instead. Five Enthusiastic Stars for the food. (Please click 👍🏼. Thank you. )
Came here for the second time. Got panang curry with chicken and drunken noodles with duck.
Panang curry was really flavorful and tasty.
The drunken noodles was also really tasty.
Highly recommend this place.
Excellent food and great customer service!
Take out many dishes from this spot. This is must come back location.
Good place for team lunches
Place was neat, service and food was ok. Serving wise is not commensurate to the price they charge. Would I come back again if I'm in the area? Hmm ... probably I'll try another Thai place.
Ask for there spice level before you say spicy or medium. There medium level 4 out of 10 is also spicy so would recommend 2 or 3 first. Otherwise food is really good. Loved it!
Yummy food, perfect services and nice ambiance. We ordered drunk noodles with shrimp and it was perfect
I enjoyed the green curry.
Great Thai food. Authentic and tasty.
Don't waste your money here. It was disappointing.
the pad thai was literally completely stuck together in a giant cube. Dry, mushy, and you couldn't even separate the noodles with chopsticks; inedible
Great service and food!
Get the Nelly special!!!
Did not receive my fresh spring roll ($5.95) and talked to mike the manager and never gave me a refund for the item I did not receive. Waiting 6 months to write a review to give them a chance but I guess they don’t care. Rather lose a customer because of $5.95
Excellent food and fantastic service. Also affordable. This place is wonderful.
Lots of vegan options, love the mock duck. Service is fast! Can't wait to come back
This place rocks, every item i have tried is delicious and so fresh! Best Thai in san diego!
Great food. Also good options for vegetarians and vegan.
We like this restaurant, food is good but today we walked in to dine in at 2:15 and they wouldn't seat us because they close at 2:30.
Great Thai food and fast service! There are plenty of options for vegetarians/vegans.
Very bad experience ordee tangarine chicken came all overburned and oily. Not tasty at all.
Good place, casual dining
I love Thai food and am glad to have another very good option in the neighborhood. I ate there twice last week.
The first time I got the fresh shrimp spring rolls and mango sticky rice for lunch. The portions were so generous I took 1/2 of my sticky rice home and it was just as good at dinnertime.
Prices weren't bad for the size of each item so I brought my honey here for dinner. This time I got the Drunken Noodles after so many others gave it high marks in their reviews. It was delicious and again the portion was so huge I took half home.
However, the Chicken Pad Thai my sweetheart ordered was such a disappointment that I may never order it again and it soured him on returning any time soon. I had to agree the texture was too mealy and thus mushy and the flavor a bit bland. It's too bad because he also loves Thai.
Delicious!!!!
Thai tea so good
We love the coconut shrimp !🥰
Really nice food and place .
Absolutely delicious food and great service. The vegan Drunken Noodle 5 spice was perfect, as was the coconut milk Thai Iced Tea and the Tamarind Tofu
Love this place! 5 star experience every time! Doesn’t matter if I’m dining in or taking out. Keep doing what you’re doing!
