Very old school Thai restaurant that makes me miss Thailand big time 😊 Their breakfast is so good and no other Thai restaurant in the US can compare to it. The down side is they only take cash ;(

Diner Review №3

Delicious congee, Tom yum noodle soup, and donuts

Diner Review №4

I love the duck congee and their other breakfast items like soy milk, and tofu pudding. Come early if you want a chinese donut, they sell out! cool little spot in a motel

Diner Review №6

Yaya jan is the best food here

Diner Review №7

This is one of my favorite hole in the wall in Thaitown.
My one go to dish is the noodle with crab meat.
I also tend to come here for breakfast as well. The rice porridge and fried donut is pretty good. $9 for pork porridge and $1.50 for the (2) Chinese donuts with condensed milk.

Prices seem to have gone up over the years. It is still the local favorite I remember. The hainan rice was less than $10 for the longest time, now it is $14.

BUGS IN FOOD! DONT GO AND SAVE YOUR MONEY!

I took my daughter to this restaurant for what I thought would be a nice meal, but it turned into a nightmare. My daughter was the one who actually found a bug in her soup, and when I brought it to the staff’s attention, they blamed her for it! There was no apology, no attempt to make it right—just excuses. The whole place felt unclean and left us questioning the hygiene standards. To make things worse, they only accept cash and the bill is handwritten and confusing. You can’t even be sure what you’re being charged for. I’m warning you—do not come here. I wouldn’t want anyone else to go through what we did!

Diner Review №11

DO NOT GO - BUGS IN FOOD.

I recently visited this restaurant, and it was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. I found a bug in my soup, and when I brought it up to the staff, instead of apologizing or trying to fix the situation, they blamed us back by saying “the bug came from the outside”! How can you say the bug came from the outside when you are serving me my food from the inside???

They were completely dismissive and offered no compensation or solution. To make matters worse, the place felt dirty and unclean. The fact that they only accept cash and the bill is written entirely in Thai makes it feel shady—you can’t even tell what they’re charging you for. I would strongly advise you not to come here. Save your money and your stomach.

Diner Review №17

This place specializes in Thai breakfast. I mean serious Thai breakfast like porridge and pork soup served with a full bowl of rice. It is difficult to find such a solid place like this elsewhere in LA or even in the US.

Update: 2024/07/24. They still hold the top place for Thai breakfast dishes. The price goes up but the food is still delicious. The pork blood soup is so clean and refreshing. Sounds quite contradictory but it is true. I can drink that soup morning and evening.

Diner Review №18

Great hard to find authentic breakfast Thai food along with the street atmosphere to go along with.

Foods are great. Feel like going back to Thailand.

Diner Review №22

This authentic Thai restaurant near Hollywood serves truly delicious dishes at reasonable prices. The friendly staff makes you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. I highly recommend dish number 27, the Shrimp Paste. It was exceptionally flavorful, with the perfect blend of spices, though be prepared for some serious heat! A heads-up: they only accept cash, so make sure to come prepared. Overall, it's a fantastic dining experience that captures the true essence of Thai cuisine.

Diner Review №28

great food - my favorite Thai place in LA!

Diner Review №29

One of our favorite Hollywood restaurants!! A hidden gem not to miss. Authentic thai cuisine at very reasonable prices.

Have eaten for a couple decades in Thai Town but only went to Siam Sunset a few years ago. This was the first place I've ever eaten pad kra pao & it has become my favorite Thai dish! And Siam easily makes it the best!

Only knock is there's no on site parking, but street parking is usually not too tough depending on the day. Still it's worth the walk.

Would give it six stars if it were possible.

Diner Review №30

Just wanted to leave a review that we have been here at 6 am and they not open so I highly recommended you updated the business hours to customers ;)

Diner Review №31

This is One of The best Thai restaurants in LA!! Highly recommended

Diner Review №32

Not open at 8am. Who knows when they will but it's certainly not at 6am. Nobody there to answer phone. Hotel owners are rude as well. This place used to be great. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Diner Review №33

Diner Review №34

So delicious. Had the congee, soy milk, tom yum, and rice rolls. They were all beautiful! Only thing missing was donuts for the soy milk and congee, but for them you have to arrive earlier in the day (before 10/11)

I recently ordered the Hainan chicken dish from Restaurant : siam sunset, and while the chicken itself was flavorful and well-cooked, I must admit that I was disappointed with the rice. The rice that accompanied the chicken had an unfortunate texture - it was overly soggy and reminiscent of glutinous rice. This unexpected consistency took away from the overall enjoyment of the meal.

As a fan of Hainan chicken rice, I have had the pleasure of tasting variations of this dish from different places. The hallmark of a great Hainan chicken rice lies in its tender, fragrant, and separate grains of rice. This particular dish, unfortunately, did not live up to that standard due to the undesirable consistency of the rice.

I believe that with a bit of attention to detail and refinement in the cooking process, Restaurant : siam sunset can truly elevate their Hainan chicken rice experience. It's important to ensure that the rice maintains its distinct grains and doesn't become overly moist or sticky. This improvement would undoubtedly enhance the dining experience and keep customers coming back for more.

I look forward to the possibility of revisiting Restaurant : siam sunset and enjoying a Hainan chicken rice that truly captures the essence of this beloved dish. With a small adjustment to the rice preparation, I'm confident that Restaurant : siam sunset can create a memorable and satisfying culinary experience for all its patrons.

Legit Thai food

Diner Review №44

Aroi mak (อร่อยมาก, yummy😋) if you think of Thai food, pork blood soup, pork tofu noodle,... this is on the top listed in LA.

Diner Review №45

Relaxed, low-key, neighborhood Thai restaurant known for traditional breakfast and opening early (probably the only one around here that opens at 6am.)

Drop in for some congee for a classic comfort Thai breakfast. If you come early enough you'll be lucky to grab some ปาท่องโก๋ (fried donuts) to have with condensed milk, homemade warm soy milk, or just as a yummy side for your congee.

Their other dishes also tend towards breakfast/lunch foods and are just as authentic and simple. The folks are also always so welcoming and friendly. This is simply the spot for nice relaxed comfort Thai food!

The best congee in Los Angeles. They also have a wide array of Thai cuisine. It’s literally a hole in the wall so it can easily be missed. It’s a tiny place but always packed. Price is very reasonable. Be prepared to bring cash though, no cards accepted. But great food

They have one of the best congee (porridge) hands down. I also get their Hainan Chicken (boneless steamed chicken) in dark meat and skin-on regularly for my mom. Also very yummy #74 (basil with chilli and minced protein) and fish fillet with chinese celery. Casual clean atmosphere and super friendly staff.

I've been come here for years it was one of my favorite place until the last few of my visiting. The foods aren't as good as use to be, it just getting worse and worse. Today I had Kow Moo Dang which the bbq pork is very thin and dry and also the egg. The another dish was Guay Jub which took too long to be served and there are some chunk of the tapioca stach in the soup, it should not be in the recipe but I did not made any complain to the staff. I just feel like this is the end of the legend. By the way there lot of flies flying freely.

By Far the Most Authentic Traditional Thai-Chinese Restaurant We have Been in the Past 2 decades in the USA!

We have to thanks the owner for keeping the tradition of Thai-Chinese breakfast-lunch style for all these years and not turning into "fusion" restaurant. Everytime we went back, it brought me the memory of my time when I grew up in Thailand in the '80-'90. My very highest recommendation! Dr. Sudarat Kiat-amnuay

I wish I could move to LA.

Siam sunset is a gem in LA. I’ve visited my GF home in LA and craving for Thai good foods. One of my friend recommended Siam Sunset, and I can say they were very very good and reasonable price.

We’ve started meal with Tow-houi (ginger soup with tofu) OMG!!! It’s so ginger-ish! packed of spices. perfect soup for winter.

Long-Kang juice was impressive but I’m not really juice guy so I just took a sip.

Let’s talk about meal. We had Kouy-Jub (big flat noodle in herbal black soup with intestines, livers, pork blood, and fried tofu. Mouy-Jub soup was full of flavors. But not too salty, nor sweet. Noodle was a bit harsh hut overall was great!!!!. 8/10

Khao-Kloog-ka-pi( shrimp paste fried rice) with many elements; chili, lime slice, sweeten pork, scramble egg, shredded raw mango. Mix all together and cheers! Guarantee the taste same as Thailand! Must order!

Next one was a full platter of duck, roasted pork, and crispy pork belly. The portion was large and easily filled up the whole party.

Well, I think I wrote too long so to conclude, I’d say Siam Sunset is a gem in Thai-town LA. Tasty, flavorful, savory food with polite price and friendly service. Recommended!!!

The food is always great, the staff, however, are notorious for being rude. If you are a part of a big party and ordered a lot, there’s sure to be a few things missing but still appeared on the bill. I realize that big parties during rush hours is a lot to handle and thing could go wrong, but should it go wrong every single time, without fail??? If mistakes always happen, they could check on the customers to see if we got everything we asked for.
But we still like to go here once in a while because it’s the only Thai place that serves that they serve: porridges, soy milk soup, Chinese donuts, pork blood soup, etc. they are also the only Thai place that’s opened early for breakfast.

Wonderful, "down home" Thai restaurant with great food and good prices and friendly service. They didn't have the Chinese donuts, so I will go back to try those soon. Highly recommended.

Diner Review №173

Absolutely delicious, authentic Thai food.

My recommendations:

Soy milk for a lightly sweet and warm breakfast drink with a small amount of tapioca pearls, side Ted badly, and thin tofu.

Shrimp paste with fried rice. So much flavor and texture in one dish!

Finally, be adventurous and get the pork blood soup. Lots of offal cuts and Chinese celery with a tangy chili you add to taste.
