Ordered the pad see ew and yellow curry with chicken. Both were good but the yellow curry was slightly salty. Overall a decent meal on a Friday in downtown Livermore

Food smelled of too much fish. Not acceptable considering many are allergic to sea food. Taste is average or slightly above, nothing compelling.

My wife and I split the Curry Beef and it was a great choice. You can cut the beef with a fork it was so soft. The spice were well done and over all a wonderful environment for a date or in our case, lunch before we hit our favorite wineries. Highly recommend it here.

I got something else the second time - some Thai fried chicken that was delicious and served with a sauce and veggies. The inside is really nice, too, so it's worth going in person.

We just ate here and found a brown hair in our food. None of us (7 guests) had brown hair and when we asked for a new plate (very nicely) the server gave us a new one without a word. When we went to pay, she charged us for 2 plates even though we had one sent back because of the hair and when we asked her to fix that all she had to say was (im so sorry) and we ended up paying for both.

Lovely setting, friendly service, and great food! I love their Tom Ka Soup, lamb kebabs, and of course the satay is always wonderful.

The food here is very tasty and they have fun rotating seasonal dishes to try. Our personal favorites are the orange chicken and the pumpkin curry, highly recommend. Only negative here is the table service, mainly during peak times. I have had times where there are few customers and the service is fantastic and times where they are slammed and it is hard to get help from the wait staff. Still love coming here before or after the movies for a fun date night.

We have been looking for a local Thai place that has great vegetarian options and is tasty at the same time. This place was perfect. We ordered yellow curry, roti paratha, pad thai, and dumplings. Everything was delicious and the bonus was my two year old loved it as well. We plan on coming here more often for sure!

Very possibly the most underrated place I've been to in Livermore after living here for two years. We got take out from here, immediately were smitten, and have been going back almost weekly since then, making a point to try different menu items each time, and have still never been disappointed! The staff are super courteous, the wait is never long, and the food is just impeccable. Every single meal is very obviously put together with care, from really nice ingredients, and with flavors that are never too intense, bland, or clashing. I'm surprised they aren't packed with customers every time I go, they deserve more!

The location is definitely in a popular hangout area, however the portion was a little more on the meager side. The culinary presentation was attractive. Overall, if someone is going for the atmosphere and aesthetics, this could be a place for that. If someone is going for the food quality and quantity, there are better opportunities.

Ordered the scallops and shrimp plate. They were cooked frozen. Real mushy as if not cooked thoroughly. The rest of the plate had decent flavor.

Shared lunch with a special friend. Tempting menu! Delightful aromas and mouthwatering presentations. We shared 3 different dishes to expand our experience and both were delicious. Ample serving sizes yet we needed no take home containers! Delicious!! Attentive but not invasive service. Tasteful decor was peaceful and added to the experience

Finally found a Thai fried rice worth to be called Thai Fried rice. Nicely cooked with a little stickiness I love about the Thai fried rice. I had the spicy Basil Fried rice with chicken and flavor and texture was wonderful, so was the presentation with a little salad. Would definitely go back.

My husband took me there tonight for dinner.He had never been there, I had once. My Mom had taken me there for lunch a few years ago. It was amazing!! Great service! Quiet even though there were quite a few people dining too.The food was absolutely delicious!!!! I would highly recommend this restaurant!! Thank you for an excellent dining experience!!

Everything I have had here has been really good. My favorites are the Green Curry and the pumpkin salmon.

We have probably eaten at this restaurant 20+ times over 4 yrs. And what amazes me is not only the great food they serve but the flavor and quality has been consistent. Service is always great and the curries and entrees really good.

Order Calamari didn’t taste calamari its all pure breading...

Picked up dinner last night and it was delicious. Chicken Satay was delicious. The chicken was well seasoned and the peanut sauce was light and thin. The chicken was in thin, uniform slices, perfect for kids (and adults). The papaya salad was wonderful and well-balanced. It was very fresh and flavorful. The crispy chicken was tasty and spicy, with chunks of sweet potato and fresh green beans. The crab fried rice was our favorite. They use chunks of real crab and a salty, slight curry seasoning. I’m not a big curry fan and I loved the rice. The tofu pad Thai was perfect. It had just the right balance of sweet and heat and wasn’t too greasy. The Thai iced tea was sweet and strong. We’ll be back.

Star Anise in Livermore is, by far, the best Thai place we have ever been. We love Thai food, and are always trying out new Thai restaurants. Out of all the places we've been to in both the United States and Thailand, Star Anise continues to be the gold standard for delicious Thai food! Every time we eat there, the quality and taste never dwindle.

Writing this during the Pandemic. They are still open for takeout. The best "minimal contact" food handoff I have seen so far.

Food was excellent like always! I had the Pumpkin Salmon Curry and it is good enough to almost bring me to tears.

This is by far my favorite restaurant!!! Not only is the food amazing, consistent, & well-priced; the service is exceptional, the workers are so nice and the restaurant is clean, upscale and quiet. Perfect for a date night, girls' night out of family! It's always a special evening.

Favorite Thai place in town. Red Duck Curry and Pad Thai are two of our favorite dishes here. I also like going for the Thai fried rice when I feel like splurging. We get takeout often, too, and the quality is consistently delicious.

Great food !! Very delicious and tasty. My friends tried their chicken rice and panang curry which they absolutely loved. I tried the lamb and veggies. Wonderfully cooked piece of lamb served with perfectly cooked fresh, crisp and juicy vegetables that leaving you wanting to not finish your food. The lamb was cooked to perfection and i was slicing through it like a block of butter. We were the only group in the restaurant and were helped by one server. Service was top notch. Decent place, Great food !

The restaurant has a good ambience, but I wish they had more space. There were two waiters and they were very friendly. Neat restroom too.

We ordered Thai fish cake for appetizer, Duck roast (from the grill) and Mango paradise (fried rice). The appetizer was good and cooked well, but it is not the conventional fish cake that you might think. Infact I would say it was fish-flavored cake. Duck roast was well cooked and had a good flavor. My most favorite part was the fried rice with pieces of mango in it, that really blended well with egg and chicken in the fried rice. All the dishes were beautifully decorated and I would give 5 stars for its presentation.

First time here and I have to say that I am never ever stepping into this restaurant again. First of all the person serving us did not bring all the items we ordered. And he got the entrees first and the appetizers after we asked for them and late. The food tastes ok. But the attitude of the people working there is just the worst. They were very rude and we had because of the way they served I reduced the tip I usually give. When we were about to leave the person attending our table asked us for an explanation for the low tip. He made very rude remarks and was very mean. As a customer its my choice whether I like the service or not. And I gave the tip I think the service deserved. I did explain him my reason for the low tip. He has to be fired. If you are expecting better tips and do learn about how to serve your customers better.

This is the first time that I am writing a review for a restaurant and I have to say that the people work who work at this place forced me to write one. It was very bad experience with a) the waiters forgot to bring the food items we ordered b) We also didnt like the way one of the food item was served ( spicy powder was literally thrown on top of the food). As we were not happy with our experience and the service, we did not tip them well. The waiters started arguing with us, used some bad words and asked us to "Get out". My worst experiences so far...

Started coming to Star Anise back in 2015 and have never had a bad meal. Such a friendly place and the food is amazing!
It can be a little slow when it’s busy but it’s definitely worth the wait.

Best Thai in Livermore! Hands down

Hot sour soup was excellent. Potstickers are really good really enjoyed the sauce. I don't know if the curry for Thai is supposed to be sweet but this curry sauce was really sweet I didn't enjoy that too much but all in all was a good experience.

Slow service and very small portions when compared to other Thai restaurants like Lana. Food was good though

The drinks are expensive, the portions are small, and the foods is really spicy. If you like that combo then it's perfect for you. I can only give it three stars because the spiciness is overwhelming. I've gone to better Thai places.

If they lost the tv it would be almost percent. Food is outstanding. Service, the one waiter has been there since it opened and sometimes he is over worked. Highly recommended!

We made reservations for 20 people. The place is small and there were two large tables that they tried to accomodate 10 at each table. The tables would seat 4 on each side and one at the end. The other end of the table faced a wall, so if 5 people had to sit on one side and 4 on the other, it made it very uncomfortable. We decided that we needed one more smaller table, so some of our party moved. We arrived at 6 pm so the place wasn't really all that crowded. If we had been later, we would have had to seat cramped at these tables 2 tables.

The food was great, We all seemed to enjoy the meal. I personally would go back to this restaurant occasionally for good thai food, but not with a large group.

Service seemed a little slow. We asked for separate bills and they couldn't accomodate us. When the bill was brought to us we found that the tip was computed basied on the meal and tax combined. This brought the tip up higher than 20%.

If we were to return we would return with no more than 4 people. This restaurant couldn't seem to accomodate large parties.
