The owner was the one who took our order. He was very nice and said he was in business for about 45 years and everything is made fresh to order. Food came out fast and hot. Everything was delicious. The red curry I ordered was one of the best l've had I could taste the coconut milk and brought so much childhood memories. The papaya salad Thai style was perfect, strangely my husband thought it was too spicy (when he eats more spice than I do) but I thought it was just right. The chicken fried rice was good too.
Would Thai food and the owner was very kind. Highly recommend and will be returning.

My first visit to the Thai Gem was a very pleasant experience. I was warmly greeted by the owner who informed me of the 35yr. family business. Within that time span no one has ever caught food poisoning due to every meal being freshly made and prepared for your satisfaction.
As for me, I ordered Chicken Pad Thai and Soup Coconut Milk which was absolutely delicious (hot & fresh). Without hesitation I highly recommend the homestyle restaurant, Thai Gem.

I ordered via Grub hub. There was no option to add rice with the Panang curry, and therefore I thought it would come with rice…it was a La cart. Difficult to eat without rice in a hotel. More of a soup. The Larb salad had depth of flavor but not enough lime sauce, and the cabbage leaves were difficult to eat. The flavors were good.

I placed an online order through their website. When I went to pick up the order I was told it was never received. Turns out they use a third party company to submit their orders. Per the owner he hadn't checked his emails to see if there were online orders and he was "too busy" to answer the phone in case they called with my order confirmation. I asked for a refund to which he told I would have to contact the third party company for the refund. When I was on the phone trying to get some help, the owner finally checked online and sure enough my order was there. However the owner decided he did not want to make my food for me.
I ended up leaving without a refund and my food. Now I will have to dispute the charge with my credit card company for the $50 I paid for the food I never received. I don't know how customers are supposed to place their orders if the owner himself doesn't look online to make sure orders weren't submitted and they don't answer the phone. I would suggest you go somewhere else for Thai food. There are better places where you will be treated better by the owner.

The food is good. That is reason enough to stop here. They make the vegetables very tasty which is coming from a guy that is so so with veggies. This is a place better suited for take out but there is seating for about 20 people. I ordered the #5 special with peanut sauce veggies and extra spicy red Currie beef. Good combo since the peanut sauce needs the spicy heat. My Son had the orange chicken which was below average (can’t really beat the famous place). 2nd visit to this no frills place and will be back.

Food is fine, if you’re seeking an authentic Thai food experience look elsewhere. This is pretty generic ‘Americanized’. If you want spicy, emphasize you really want it spicy. The basic spice in dishes that are labeled ‘spicy’ is not even noticeable.

Not only did the interior of this place looks like a dump, with a rather unwelcoming entryway, but the hostess simply didn't like me and lied to the chefs to convince them to put all fat in my meal instead of steak. It tasted like gummy bear chews in food. She was also very young to be working. Probably getting bad grades.

Great authentic Thai food cooked by Thai cooks. Menu is very diverse and cuts of meat are tasty. I prefer family style so order several dishes and share with your companions. Enjoy the eating experience.

First time today. I ordered a hot and sour chicken soup and while the broth tasted good, I was disappointed that it literally had no vegetables. Just a few pieces of mushrooms and jalapeños that added nothing, it was mainly just chicken. I prefer soups with meat and vegetables. I’m assuming this is just how they make the soups here. I’d come back here to see how they’re other items are, but the soup today was not it.

Amazing place.. Family style. Tasty. Authentic. Solid eats. Never get stomachache. Vegetable Pad Thai only so the flavor of the pad thai such as tamarind and fish sauce shine, papaya salad, bbq beef salad, peanut sauce, mango sticky rice... The best combinations of all time without breaking your budget.
Update: years later and they still have the food quality and taste expected and depends on. It explains how this place gather many "regulars" who know the menu in their memories and know the owner by stories.
Depends on the time, rarely, they get overwhelm and service may seems slow, however, it doesn't affect the food taste. They always say: "good things come to those who wait" so just sit back, catch up with your love ones, take some deep breaths because the food will be enjoyable when it comes.

Years later, the quality of food still there, amazing place, wonderful people.

Lol at all these positive reviews. Must be family and friends. Food tasted good, but I got an Uber eats order and they put my soup in a styrofoam to-go container, so majority of it leaked in the bag. And they also skimped me on my food. For $50 I should have enough to feed at least 4 people. I got enough for maybe two people, or one person with a big appetite. You order Asian food you expect to get plugged, no shorted. I HIGHLY recommend anyone who sees this to skip this place and go hit up Pad Thai on Shaw down the street!! Double the portions and double the taste.

All the bad reviews are people who have never been to thailand, the food and experience will bring you to where you fell in love with this food. The owner and staff made me feel at home and the food is made when you order it. I highly recommend this to people who enjoy authentic Thai food.

I don't understand the high reviews. The food looked like it was old as heck, the pork ribs were rubbery, and the smells were off. I didn't want to eat anything because it smelled like I'd get food poisoning.

Maybe it was just a bad go of it. I dunno.

Best Thai restaurant around. They used to be at Blackstone/Ashlan in Fresno and we have been coming here since 1987!!

If you want authentic Thai food then you need to visit Thai Gem. Most area Thai restaurants are really Lao, Vietnamese, Cambodian or any mixture of south East Asian foods. Many of them are very good, but not strictly Thai and although some of those areas share the same dishes they are all prepared differently.

The ingredients here are always fresh and all dishes are made to order. They’ll also customize anything to your preference.

The owner is very proud of his food and will often stop at the table to chat. This can sometimes be nice and other times annoying and he doesn’t have a good self indicator to make that judgment call at times.

Overall I recommend any Thai food fan to pay them a visit.

Not authentic Thai food! I would say the food tastes more Chinese than Thai. Ordered the crispy pork and it came in small chunks drowned in sweet and sour sauce! That is not how Thai crispy pork is prepared. The basil fried rice was good. Also ordered tum yum shrimp soup, minced chicken, fried squid, beef salad, eggplant dish, mango salad and papaya salad. Almost every dish was very sweet. I don't recommend this place for thai food.

Normally you usually go to a place and naturally they are Pleasant but here the owner truly treats you as if your family everyone knew him by name and he knew everyone by name his food is truly authentic and so so very good if you haven't tried it you must at least give it a try at least once and I can guarantee you you will be back time and time again .. 1000🌟from me 😊

This place is a true hidden gem. Everything is made from scratch and made to order. Don't expect a quick turnaround or even for plates to arrive at the same time, but do expect amazing Thai food, with friendly service.

It is in the same parking lot as the gas station. The food there is absolutely incredible! Since they are very very popular, they open at 11 a.m. Tuesday through Friday, you need to get there early, since it packs so fast.

Very fresh. People complain in their reviews about watery curry but what they don't realize is that thick red or green curry is premade and old.
This guy does not premake anything that's why it isn't thick and slimy.

I've eaten Thai food all over the world and this up par. Gem maybe correct its the cubic zirconium of Thai food. The table cloth were greasy , the food was below average . pad Thai was so over cooked the noodles stuck together. Go to Thai country Kitchen ...compared to Gem ,Thai country kitchen is an emerald.
