The only reasons why I took a star off is because there is an automatic 15% gratuity fee regardless of the number of people in your party. For context, my party consisted of myself and my friend. The other reason was that this restaurant is not vegan/vegetarian friendly. They cook all their dishes with lard (pork fat).

I ordered the chicken w/garlic sauce (listed as spicy) as one of their lunch specials which is supposed to include rice. I ordered delivery. My order did not come with rice. The chicken was coated in some non-distinct, non garlic flavored, gloppy sauce with some bell peppers. It was more like sweet and sour chicken than anything else, but not what I ordered. The hot and sour soup was full of cornstarch with little flavor. The kicker? No fortune cookie. Nothing was good. Very disappointing. I wouldn't even call it Chinese food. Even if they mixed up my order, whatever it was they sent me was not good.

15%强制小费，只给个菜单上个菜加一次水。而且服务态度很不好，叫了没人理，问问题也不理。最变态的是小费计算还在打折计算之前，州税计算之后， 意味着你得给州税的部分交服务费。小费小票已添加，有心人可以自己算算。

The taste is not good, expensive and totally American-style Chinese food.
15% forced tips, only give menu and water once. The service is also bad, no one responds when you need help, and no one replies when asking questions.
Another thing: the tips are added after tax, and before the discount, which means you need tips for the TAX. A receipt is attached, you can calculate if you want.

I picked up a delivery from here, and the lady at the hostess station couldn't have been more friendly or hospitable. She offered me some candy and then when I took one she gives me this little wink and nod like "go ahead, take a few!". She was so sweet! Very rare that someone is randomly so nice. I look forward to coming back and trying some food! I used to be a big Asian kitchen fan before they changed ownership some odd years ago.

So basically this place is totally a 5. I've been here three time and it gets a 3.5 because Americans are culture idiots. The food is spectacular but be warned you need to ask for America spicy. The service is good, polite and frank, but I'm from the west coast so it's more my style. I ear here when I'm in Madison and if you want some really good food I'd suggest this place, but they don't mess around with spicy so ask.

Great authentic Chinese food. A place like this is hard to come by in the states and I would highly recommend going with some friends and sharing dishes - Mapa Tofu, Spicy Cucumbers, Chinese Cabbage are all top tier.

如果你这个店是卖烤肉的，那还能理解，你起码可以帮人烤肉。但是普通餐馆就端个水，我实在想不通15%的强制小费是为什么。到最后吃一次饭要付20多刀，菜量还小。唯一的优点就是味道还可以。如果你是富哥那这家店还可以。

I rarely review anything but Fugu is phenomenal. The food was top notch and authentic. The owner was quite kind and after bringing us our food she explained everything that was in it. Unfortunately, my Mandarin isn't great so the help explaining the dishes was much appreciated. After getting our fill of food and hot Sake, we left with like 6 pounds of leftovers that lasted us well over a week as the broth was useful for more than just the main dish and all of this was for 50 bucks. Long live Fugu.

Our food came out perfectly, and exceeded out expectations which has already been positive. Food came out pretty quickly, and staff were very courteous.

Very authentic sichuan style cooking. We tried many sichuan style restaurants in US, mainly in New York and New Jersey. Their dishes are as good as the best from NYC. The prices are good too.

This authentic Chinese restaurant is easy to find on a corner of the state street. The food was good with authentic Chinese flavor and decent price.

The taste is quite average… nothing compared to NYC or CA. Honestly any restaurant from Cali can beat the taste. But since it’s Madison I guess it is what it is. And they automatically put the tip on your bill w/o notifying you and still leave out a tip area… so do be careful.

The flavor is solid!! I ordered chicken gizzard and mixed beef, and loved both of them. I literally had 3 meals out of each of the dishes. It was a lot of food they gave me. Service are good and you can request gluten free soy sauce if needed.

Great restaurant for Sichuan food!

I have had multiple pleasent experiences here. The staff is one of the nicest on state street and the food is on par with their service. The prices are cheap for the quantity and quality they offer. I can't speak from an authenticity POV but the food tastes excellent.

Im disappointed to say that they have double charged me for a dish. The dish was $10 out of a $140 bill ($130 w/o the double charge). Otherwise, the food was decent and wrapped up a great night with friends after the January symphony at the overture.

Food came at a reasonable time and staff was very friendly. Chinese food is life, so there's a half-hidden corner for those of you who just went through a divorce and are ashamed of being seen eating alone but still want to go.

Staffs are very polite and helpful with everything. It was first time at Fugu Madison. Most of the food are spicy. We don’t like spicy so we don’t have that much option. To be honest, presentation was really good but taste wasn’t. Maybe It’s not for me but taste is nothing like no seasoning or sauce.

Love this place. We have been coming here since they started over 10 years ago. The food is very authentic. The service is good.

This is no doubt one of the best restaurants in Madison. The food is amazing and all the dishes are delicious.

This is my first time there and I parked just right outside the street and panicking- they are SO friendly and helpful in getting the food done ASAP and delicious (of course!). Go for their spicy food. We love it (not for the kids)!

Great array of Chinese fare with good whole fish, though ironically for the restaurant's name (Fugu Asian Fusion) they do not serve Fugu, and only serve a few fusion dishes covering more common American fusion cuisine, i.e. crab rangoon

My mao's braised pork belly was so delicious, the waitress was nice & attentive, asked me if I had any questions and if I was familiar with the dish, asked if I needed a new tea bag, hot water or both, asked if I wanted more rice, you can get authentic Chinese dishes here or chinese-american dishes.

I get Fugu just about every weekend and couldn’t recommend it more. If you’re getting take out like I did, I’d definitely recommend their chili wontons, crispy basil chicken, and mapo tofu! I’ve looked for better but haven’t had any luck.

Make sure to call before ordering delivery. Might have to wait up to 2 hours on busier days.

Not clean. Easy to get sick there. Saw a waiter sneezing towards the table without covering face and then I got diarrhea and stomachache the next day dinning there.

I used to love Fugu, and I've taken my whole family out there more than once and spend more then a hundred on food. So when I got $20 off my birthday meal, I was excited to make a day of it with my wife and I.

Read fine print, not only is it not off your meal, it's not off two dinner entrees. Its off two dinner hibachi. Which means it's not $20 off at all but actually discount coupon. It took a long time to learn that from the staff whom seemed offended that I even use the card and dismissive and walked off several times while I was trying to figure out my order based on the restrictive requirements.

What I hate is how petty this gesture was, since I would of ordered $50 in food anyway. Not only did I not order any food there, I will not for a LONG time. I do not support restaurants with predatory business practices.

I have been all over the world. Grew up in Seattle. This is a hidden gem - the most amazing Asian food and warm incredible service!!! Now my #1 Madison restaurant.

Great food! We loved the fried spicy shredded beef and cumin lamb. The stir fried strong beans were awesome. We ordered out, but are looking forward to a dine in experience soon.

The diced chicken dry pot and beef dry pot are downright addictive! I have to go have one of them every few weeks to calm the craving. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Great little hidden gem!

My partner and I have regularly dined-in at & ordered out from Fugu.

Dine-in service is always friendly, timely, and clean. One of the managers once brought us free desert on a Chinese holiday. She was overjoyed to share w/ us why the holiday was important to her & thanked us for coming in.

Additionally, the food is always great. We order mostly traditional Chinese dishes; our favorites are vegetable mapo tofu, long horn pepper shredded potato, and OX tongue & beef stripe in chili sauce.

Some of the best Chinese that I have eaten. They offer true Sichuan cuisine. You can get the Americanized stuff, but why? Be adventurous. The flavors would stop us in our tracks. It doesn't offer fancy surroundings, but more than makes up for it in flavor. Top it off with a Nigori sake and life is good!

Food is fresh, authentic, filling and the portions are generous. You have a choice between hot pots or delicious entrees.

We think the manager was high...I'm not sure. We waited 2 hours to get our food when we were the only people there besides another group that was almost finished, I got the wrong food, and did not want to wait 2 hours for our high manager to bring us trash. 0/10 if I could, probably my worst dining experience ever.

This is a 2.5 star review. Its mediocre. But I must caveat, I have always ordered take out and not sat down to eat in premises. So unless that has any impact on quality somehow, the rating stands. Most dishes are too oily; like the eggplant dish that could be pretty amazing. If you like rich oily asian food you will like this. Try it for yourself and see - enjoy!

I had a craving for a Thai dish and this place was listed as having Thai, kinda...when I got there I saw tons of delicious looking dishes on the tables of people eating and it all looked so good I wish I could have sat with them! If I ever get back there (was there for work) I'll go back for sure...not for Thai that's for sure, but I enjoyed my wide noodle dish none the less

This is a very good restaurant, I liked the food in general, but the chicken curry texture, although probably very authentic, is not something I particularly liked. Service was great and other people's food was very good, just not what I ordered. I would recommend this place for Japanese food.

Very different experience. Pretty darn good food. The menu has some strange things on it. And the spicy food is just that. I had the Mongolian Beef that turned out to be the hit of the table.

Everything is bomb besides the service.

This is consistently one of my favorite Asian spots in Madison. It isn’t cheap Chinese it is really good Chinese. The four pepper chicken is my go to when I am feeling like I am in a rut, but I have never had bad food, or a bad experience.

5 stars before 2017, 0 star in 2017, 2 stars in 2018, 5 stars in 2019. The owner changed quite a few times, it dramatically affects the food quality and service.

Best Szechuan food in Madison!

I thought this place had gone significantly downhill but it has since reopened under new management and I have had very positive experiences with the food and service the last few times I've visited. It's definitely a good option near State Street. I will return.

Great fresh food

Service was Amazing and Friendly! Cozy atmosphere in the booth seating. Staff was always available for questions, requests, and refills. The food was delicious (Eggplant in Scezchewan Sauce, Ho Poa Tofu, House Style Tofu, Singapore Noodles w/Shrimp, and Hot and Sour Soup!) We will be back! PS they offer delivery too!
