Great Thai food for take out or dining in.

They’ve always been great for take out but about 6 months ago the party supply store next door closed. The owners jumped at the opportunity, knocked down some walls, gutted it and made an incredible dining area.

We came with a party of 10 (kids and adults - it’s kid friendly) and had an amazing time. The menu is extensive, the food is authentic and delicious and the staff were lovely ( thanks Ian, Lauren and Noi).

To top it off they have this super cool robot that brings your food - you have to see it in real life. The kids loved that touch.

Be sure to drink some Singha beer (they have small and large bottles of it) for the full authentic experience.

Great little find in Oak Harbor on our way home. They definitely lived up to the ratings and reviews that led us here. Everything was incredibly delicious accompanied by a super friendly staff. With an extensive menu of choices, you can't go wrong finding something to thoroughly enjoy.

The service was prompt and excellent, and the staff was very friendly and pleasant. I ordered the appetizer sampler and the Thai teriyaki beef. The appetizers were incredible, specifically the summer rolls. The dipping sauce was flavorful and paired with the rolls perfectly. The Thai teriyaki’s portion size was on the smaller side, but the flavor and tenderness of the beef easily made up for it! My friend ordered Panang Curry which was delicious! Very creamy curry sauce with tender meat and vegetables. The level of spice was perfect as well and complimented the flavor exquisitely.

Overall I was highly impressed by the food, service, and cleanliness of Naung Mai and would happily go back anytime I’m in the mood for Thai! Check this place out if you haven’t already!

My husband picked up the Phad Tai with chicken and extra green onions. Had I known it was a $3 charge for extra onions I would of skipped them. This ordered wasn't near as good as the last time. Noodles were in huge clumps and the taste is different.
It would be nice if there was more bean sprouts in the dish and more cabbage on the side.
So not worth the cost
If I get the craving for this again I will go to Anacortes because they do a lot better!!

Ian is amazing! We really enjoyed our dinner here - this place has THE BEST crab fried rice! I ate too fast and didn’t even get to take a picture!

Food was bland, potatoes in the massaman curry were still half raw, and why was there pineapple in the curry? Shrimp fried rice was bland and expensive and the broccoli had the same issue with being undercooked. It was a slow afternoon, not sure why they didn't take a little time to cook th food more.

Friendly staff though and cute little place to eat. Just wish the food was better.

Very small location, but the Thai food is excellent. All curries are fantastic. My favorite is the green. Potatoes and carrots often seem a little undercooked and hard, but still an excellent choice.

I did order take out but we ate it within 10 minutes of picking up. The chicken tastes old? Idk how to describe it but it was not good. I got the orange orange and I couldn’t even taste any orange? No citrus at all. Super disappointing. My spouse got chicken teriyaki and again the chicken itself was not good tasting. The service was great and it seemed like a great restaurant but I am super disappointed in the food. $33 gone and I couldn’t finish the second bite.

Food is good but papaya salad tastes kinda weird. as Thai papaya salad lover should add more Fermented fish sauce and the fresh chilies not a Chilies paste 😟 however Thai tea is recommended! Also tom yum soup was amazing. I’ve had food here with hair in it 3 times. I took a break for about 3/4 months and tried to go back to a place I enjoyed despite the hair incidents. I was treated crazy about 10 cent. I went back because utensils we left out of my food, I received them & then a random hostess decided to condescendingly accuse me of not giving them 10 cent. The initial host I was working with spoke up & said I did, but the condescending one decided to take it further. Once she was proved wrong the situation turned into “you have to leave” and she began acting like I had attacked her by speaking up for myself.
I’ve had a male manager be just as rude, when I was given food with hair in it. Pray you don’t have a situation where they’re wrong, they’ll most likely flip it on you.

After an assumed ownership change, I can no longer recommend this restaurant. My wife had a terrible experience with her food and kitchen cleanliness was definitely the issue. Also an alarming workplace culture that discouraged the server from talking about the bad food to the chef. I'm sorry I can't go into details. Do not go here. DO NOT GO HERE.

Been here 4 times. Always great food. Last time today when I went the chicken was so cold and dry. Curry felt and tasted watered down. Teriyaki tasted like it was made with no love just store bought sauce poured on top. Chicken looked very odd. Manager offered 10% off after us only eating a few bites from each plate and leaving 5 minutes later. My favorite restaurant turned to my peast favorite. Worth checking out other places for your moneys worth. Feel very let down and scammed.

The cuisine is exceptional, meticulously prepared, with the Duck Pad Thai being a standout and the Crab Fried Rice now ranking as my husband's preferred version. The staff demonstrated remarkable kindness and efficiency, delivering our orders promptly.

This is probably the worst Thai food I’ve ever had. It’s even worse than frozen food. We ordered fried rice, it’s soggy with barely any veggie inside and the source tested artificial. However the staffs are very friendly

This place was really nice, however, the potatoes in the yellow curry were still raw and 90% uncooked.

The flavors were on point and staff was wonderful but I had to waste a bit of my lunch due to the potatoes being hard and uncooked.

I came here with my family tonight and had Lauren as our server. Right off the bat she was very sweet and attentive and helped us pick out appetizers because we weren’t sure which ones we were looking for. She was very courteous throughout our meal and made sure we had a good time. There were a lot of new staff still learning the ropes so there were some errors but Lauren handled everything so well, she really stands out as an excellent server. I would happily return to this restaurant to be treated with such great service as the service Lauren provides. Also, even though there were some errors with our food we all really enjoy this restaurant. Learning curves are to be expected with new staff and we really didn’t mind.

The only Thai place in America that’s stood up to Thailand’s spice level, in my experience.

The off-menu super-spicy option is a must for only $0.75. They could raise prices by $5-10/entree and it’d still be a reasonable value.

I love that I can order online without creating an account, and they'll bring it out to the car. The Pad See Ew is my favorite.

Clean, stylish place to have some really great and well-prepared food! Dine in is good, but take out seems pretty popular! We're too far away to take it back home, so we eat in. It is a somewhat cozy place, making take out a fitting option. We've gone back regularly for a few weeks and will continue to do so!

The food delicious with fresh vegetables. I order food here often, they ofter fried or steamed tofu for vegetarian protein option. ( select the option rice-noodles for curry )

Is it normal for a server to correct your pronunciation of menu items while ordering felt kinda rude. Maybe it was their tone. Service needs work. The food came out quickly. Robot was a cute touch. Atmosphere was calm and quiet at the time. Food was not flavourful or balanced. Meat was chewy. There were bits of bone in soup. Temperature was good. The dishes contained a healthy amount of veggies. Overall Okay. Edible at least.

We were a group of 4 eating family style early in the evening (5:30). The waitress told us she was too busy to bring us utensils or plates and instructed us where we could go get our own utensils from the kitchen. This is a sit down restaurant. This waitress should not be the face of this business or in a customer service role. Descent food!

I'm a pretty big conosur of Asian food and I've tried 3 other resturants in the Oak Harbor area and this one is by far the best. Whenever I go to a new Thai, or Chinese, resturant I always order the same thing, fried rice, pad thai, one appetizer. Naung Mai hit the nail on the hit for each one definitely will be coming back! Oh and the food is actually spicy which is freaking awesome :) delicious job!

I like what they did with the interior changes, however the increase of price is simply not worth it. The pho broth was salty and the beef wasn't cooked well. The self serving robot was also strange and not needed.

I ordered three DoorDash a few days ago and my daughter Soup had dead ants in it. She than threw the rest out. I didn't see any in mine. It's too bad because the food was actually delicious. When I tried to get a refund I had the option of doing the review publicly or privately on DoorDash to let them know what happened and I never got a response or a refund. I even submitted a photo on DoorDash of the ant my daughter picked out of the soup.

The food was AMAZING and it was a great atmosphere. Our waitress was not the most impressive but she was doing her best I think. Can’t get over how good the food was.

Phad Thai had a more tangy sweet/sour sauce. Tom Kah had too much fish sauce for me, and was missing the coconut mixed with the lemon grass flavor. Massama had good flavor.

Went here for the first time today for a pickup order. I got the green curry with tofu (spice level 1) and brown rice. It's definitely spicy (closer to level 3-4 on a 5 point scale). I was late picking it up and it was still piping hot. Huge tofu cubes. The green color looks much more green than other places I've been to; not sure if they use food coloring or what. Either way, will definitely return.

I went there one time with my parents in law and I loved there vibe and everything so we ordered food and then while I was eating my pho I found this on my soup…

I am so disappointed and upset

I am a retired disabled veteran who has a full working service dog. I’ve always ordered out but decided to go in since they expanded. We drive from Freeland for the food. We walked in with my service dog today and saw immediately there was an issue. They spoke back and forth concerned before even offering us a seat. I immediately said he is my working medical service dog, and he has a fully marked vest. I was told they do not allow any animals at all. I again reiterated he is my service dog and was told if we stayed we had to sit in the very back corner where there was no room for him(65lbs). I calmly stated as a business owner, looking into service animals laws would be a good idea and left. I was not going to one argue and two I wasn’t going to be shoved in the back where my dog wouldn’t fit. I am sad to say this about this restraint because they truly do have excellent food. The picture attached is my dog at the next restraint we went to.

I had heard good things about this place, so tried it out. I got a dish (name I forgot) with a peanut sauce. It came with very little sauce, but was swimming in an overly salty soy-based sauce. I had them take it back to get rid of the pool of salt, and when what came back was much better, with a lot of peanut sauce, which is what I expected. I ordered a Pad Thai to go with squid. When I got it home I discovered that the squid was a day or two too old, smelled and tasted unpleasant. I was not impressed.

If U could give this restaurant a 10. I would. The presentation of the was amazing and the service was just like my aunties house growing up! The fresh Summer Rolls I ordered were sooo delicious. They were perfect to the bite! Thank you very much Naung Mai Thai Kitchen crew your amazing!❤️

This place wasn't good. The service was good, but food was horrific. Are food came within a minute and I were wondering how it came out so quick, so I looked into the kitchen, and I saw a microwave the food was coming out of. I ordered squid fried rice and the squid tasted like rubber. 6 bites of my fried rice were cold. We also ordered calamari which costed $8 which isn't expensive, but it only had 4 small pieces of calamari on the plate, disappointing. We also ordered some spring rolls that were piping hot with parts that were cold. The workers are cool, but If u want quality food, don't come here.

One of my favorites while in Oak Harbor - but this time we paid much more and got much less food - very disappointed. Looking for new Thai place on the island and Anacortes too. Staff is always friendly, space is very small and very hot this particular visit.

Wonderful staff! Very patient, even with my ridiculous order, pineapple fried rice (which I HIGHLY recommend) without (x), (x), and (x). Not only was it delicious, it was the perfect amount of spice and a reasonable portion. Kudos!

Are at this small but fabulous restaurant. Very busy with many takeout orders and several full tables. Our waiter, Ian, was great. He provided excellent service, quickly and efficiently, and was very pleasant. The food was fabulous, cooked to perfection. We loved this place, the food and the staff, we would definitely return.

This is really a take out restaurant, but our group of four didn't mind the tiny eat-in setting right next to the action of the kitchen and steady stream of customers picking up orders. It is authentic Thai and delicious. The service for us as sit down customers was SUPER fast. It seemed like less than 5 minutes after we ordered that generous steaming plates of food were in front of us! So if you are passing through and don't mind sacrificing an elegant atmosphere for great food and service, give these folks a try.

I'm fairly new to the area, and this place did not disappoint. Super friendly staff, and patient in answering all of our questions about the dishes, Ian and Lauren are the best.

Wonderful little restaurant just off of SR20 in Oak Harbor. The Spicy Thai Basil with eggplant was delicious! All the vegetables were crisp and hot. The spice level of 2 was perfect. My husband had the crab stir fry special. This was a big serving and it too tasted excellent.

Ordered online for curbside pickup and email says “call us when you are here so we can start making your food”. Young girl answered saying that we will be waiting a really long time and that 10 people are in front of us so we will be sitting outside forever, in a tone that seemed like they didn’t want our business, even after we paid over $50 of food. We weren’t even complaining, we simply called them as they ask… Great food always, but they definitely need to not hire kids that will drive away business.

Btw, once the food was done no one came out to our car. We eventually went in and our bag of food had been sitting on the table. Person at the desk said nothing. Sigh.

Pretty nice place. Food was good. Had the Rad Na spice level 2 and the appetizer sampler. The giew grobs are fantastic, I would highly recommend them. Level 2 spice wasn't that spicy to me so will try a higher level next time. Overall worth it, will definitely be going back.

Superb! I am obsessed with Basil Fried rice and couldn't wait to try theirs. It was so good!! Someone on the Island recommended the pineapple fried rice as well and, I ordered both. LOL This is the best fried rice in Oak Harbor.

Went there twice since we’ve been here and the food has been phenomenal each time . The waitresses were really polite, and the one even taught me a little Thai as well. She promised us the food would be spicy but not enough to make us cry . Thai tea and Thai coffee were good, definitely worth a visit!

Prawn and Scallops Delight is the best Thai dish I have ever eaten. Prawns and scallops were cooked PERFECTLY, and they paired amazingly with the fresh vegetables and firey curry. My wife had the avacado green curry which was also incredible. Staff was super kind and friendly and all around a great dining experience. 6 out of 5 stars!

Oak Harbor used to be a somewhat quiet town with two decidedly different communities being one of the older retirement set, and the other of military origin in support of Whidbey Naval Air Station which sits adjacent on the city's outskirts. With this combination one now finds quite an available variety of restaurants representing corporate fast food giants to small independent and unique offerings. Naung Mai Thai Kitchen falls into the latter with two locations, one in nearby Anacortes and the other located centrally in Oak Harbor. The Oak Harbor location definitely fits into the ‘small and local’ category as the open central kitchen area probably occupies 70% of overall space with seating only provided at maybe 4 tables and bar type seating along a front window. The ambiance is cozy, lively and full of deliciously scented foods being prepared. The staff are extremely attentive and friendly along with being proud to describe and explain foods being offered on the compact yet varied menu. On this visit we ordered: Fresh Summer Roll, Green salad, prawn, rice noodles wrapped in a clear rice wrapper. Served with peanut sauce. Refreshing and clean to the palate and chilled to the right temperature on a warm summer evening. This was followed by Fried Coconut Prawns, Lightly coconut breaded prawns, pan-fried and served with sweet & sour sauce. Perfectly fried at the right heat in order to impart a crunchy golden crispness and locking in moistness without becoming a sponge for the oil in which it is prepared. We also ordered a cup of Tom Yum Soup, Hot and sour soup, with galangal, lemongrass, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, lime leaves, and carrots. Topped with fresh green onions and cilantro (excellent size serving as an accompaniment) along with an order of traditional Chicken Pad Thai, Stir fried rice noodles with egg, bean sprouts, green onions, and ground peanuts. Excellent balance of Thai seasonings in a Pad Thai sauce that wasn't cloying or artificially gloopy. We ordered everything 2 stars and which honestly was a bit more spicy than we may have expected. Two stars is our normal ‘safe’ zone so you can always spice up, but then every restaurant is a bit different as it's really up to the kitchen how to establish their individual heat scale.  One last item we ordered was something not usually found in a Thai restaurant or featured on the menu: Pho. It sounded interesting, and it was absolutely delicious! The meat broth was rich and full flavored which was enhanced with tender strips of beef with traditional noodles and all the toppings on the side. Not sure if this was a regular item, but if available, order it! The full menu includes appetizers, salads, noodles, soups, fried rice, curries and a bevy of entree options. Thai beverages, soft drinks, beer and wine are also served. The food is exceptionally flavorful and fresh and stands out among many average Thai restaurants. The prices are affordable with plenty of available parking outside!

Hard to mess up Pad Thai, but ordered Tofo, came with all kinds of vegetables like celery, broccoli, zucchini, large chunks of carrots. Sauce smelled like BBQ sauce and it was drenched in sauce. It wasnt what I was expecting when I ordered. I eat Thai food 3-4 days per week (it was my first time here) and have been to Thailand. Server said they add extra veggies when you order tofo, menu doesn't say that, no one mentioned to me when I ordered. She didn't want to remake it so I ordered something else and paid for both. I was very disappointed. The 3 stars is because my Dad enjoyed his fried rice, other wise my score would have been 1 star. I won't be back.

Discovered this place passing through for work in a rush and it was incredible. I just went back a second time and..hot damn, I'm in love. Best thai food I've had so far in western Washington. I will stop here anytime I am lucky enough to be passing through.

Overall I was highly impressed by the food, service, and cleanliness of Naung Mai and would happily go back anytime I’m in the mood for Thai! Check this place out if you haven’t already!

Outstanding store front restaurant, great food, personalized service and excellent value. I ordered the beef with vegetables and was delighted. There was quite a variety of vegs, which made the dish wonderful.

Ordered 2 large containers of won ton soup which was delicious! (!served 4 of us ) & highly recommend it. Also ordered spring rolls (6) which were good but might have been better if there was enough dipping sauce to go around. This place is very tasty and I was so excited to get panang chicken curry delivered. As I'm eating I notice there's absolutely no chicken in my curry. Very upset because I paid for it and it's not there. Only veggies were there.

Decided to give this place a shot for the first time despite some of the weird and conflicting reviews... And glad I did. Portions were ample but not wasteful.

Absolutely delicious pad thai (the 2nd-best I've ever had) - 5/5.
Panang curry w/ chicken was good (4/5).
Tom yum soup was excellent (4.5/5).
And the puffed curry pastries were something new that I'd never tried before - but were delicious; the sweet+tangy sauce that comes with them was just right (5/5).

This restaurant is up there in taste with some of the better places in the greater Seattle area (my usual stomping grounds) so I was pleasantly surprised that not only was it "good... for international food on the island", but held its own even when compared to some of my local favorites.

I'll be back.

One of my favorites Thai restaurants. I love the one here in Oak Harbor and in Anacortes.

After the reopening I think they changed the chef. I'm sorry, but the food isn't the best anymore.

Great service and food.

The portions aren't as big as other places I have been, but it costs just as much. I got teriyaki chicken and vegetables. I feel like it just had no flavor. At 4/5 spicy its mild. I really only eat here when I didn't bring food for work. I've eaten here twice and I've had the same experience of smaller portions and the lack of flavor. It is good, don't get me wrong. But there's comparable places in the area I prefer for 15$. But I will be back. This is still up to par as far as food goes on the island.

Amazing Thai! Online ordering has been easy and our orders are always spot on. Best Thai food I've found yet on island. My fave is the pineapple fried rice!

I got a meal I don't usually get and when I opened it, it wasn't exactly what my picky pregnant-self was expecting. I called and explained to them, and they sent out my more usual order. The food I ate was amazing as always, me and my baby belly thank you guys so much!! That is what I call great service, 5* all the way 🙂👍

Great Pad Thai and some of the best sticky rice with Thai custard I have ever had!

Was told to pick up my order in 15 mins. Waited in store for an extra 20 minutes. Food had good taste but they really need to standardize how they season the food. I order a level 3 spicy every time and it is never the same. Sometimes it's right but more often than not it's either too spicy or not spicy at all.

We did takeout and it was great! The chicken pad see ew was really good! Also, great fried rice and curry!

Love the giew grob and pad see ew. Also like that they deliver, but that does only start after 4pm.
