Come visit one of the oldest Thai Restaurants in Williamsburg! Conveniently located right off the exits of Busch Gardens, Water Country USA, Colonial Williamsburg, and Jamestown. Here at Emerald Thai Cuisine, you will experience the liveliness and excitement of our exhibition kitchen. Our extraordinarily fast and friendly wait staff wishes to make your visit to us an unforgettable event. You could view our menu and online order ahead - no hassle.
Five of us ate dinner here tonight. All five of us got something different and everything was excellent. The service was also excellent.
The restaurant is in need of a refresh and deep clean. Everything was sticking to our table. The bathroom was pretty gross. Overall it just had a dirty feel.
Our other issue is they automatically put a 20% tip on the bill and that wasn't explained ahead of time (or at all). They also gave us a receipt to sign that included a space for a tip, which is a little sneaky. We are generous tippers and rarely give under 20%, but please don't automatically take 20% without setting that expectation or telling us.
Great food. Great staff. Great atmosphere!! Ordered Veggie Tempura, Thai Tea, and Chicken drunken noodles. I decided to treat myself before a night shift. I was starving and driving past so I decided to stop in! Please understand that I’m a polite person, but a 5 star rating is truly reserved for high quality. You will NOT be disappointed. My biggest complaint is being too full to enjoy any of their desserts! Will absolutely be returning.
This restaurant was spectacular! We went after a day at Busch Gardens and not wanting to eat park food. This restaurant is barely a ten minute drive away from the park, and it is an absolute must!
The atmosphere is incredible! Multiple large fish tanks, a beautiful set up with so many decorations. We were so surprised at how beautiful the restaurant was.
The vegetable tempura was divine! Multiples of each vegetable were available so everyone had the opportunity to try them, and they came with a sweet sauce. The soft shell crab was perfectly fried and the bed of vegetables were a lovely complement. I highly recommend the basil sauce which was extremely tasty at multiple spice tolerances. We will absolutely be coming back here!
My friends and I came here last night about an hour before they closed. MayMay took care of us and she was incredibly sweet. The food was phenomenal and the Thai Ice Tea was so good I probably could've had 6 cups of it. 10/10 would recommend to anybody stopping through Williamsburg.

I like to order my pad thai from here. The noodles are perfectly sauced and seasoned!
SO good! Absolutely huge portions. I loved my pad see-iw, it was delicious! We have lots of leftovers to enjoy now too.
Odered take out Calamarie and it was very BAD. Heavy battered, greasy, and not fresh frozen because she told me. Not Going Back..
I've been going here for over a decade, and since the new owners came in everything has began tasting like cheeks. 👎🏻 Now I need to find a new Thai place..
Food was soo good we ate there twice on the visit. Needs to fix their grubhub integration, missed half my order but the owner bent over backwards to make it right.
Food is yummy. Staff is very friendly and professional. This is my first trip in this restaurant but I really enjoyed. It will be my one of favorite restaurant from now on.
Delicious 🤤 Delicious and Delicious!
Excellent in all respects.
Delicious.
The food here is excellent. I had the Emerald Chicken, and I enjoyed every bite. My daughter had a sushi roll, and my husband had the cashew chicken. They also enjoyed their food thoroughly.
The restaurant needs to be updated, but other than that this is an excellent place to eat!
We will be back for sure!
I’m in town for a project and I’ve been here 6 or 7 times over the past two weeks. Excellent food, excellent staff, reasonably priced. Will be back every time I’m in town.
The Best Thai in Williamsburg.
It was amazing!!!

This place looks very nice, but it's smoke and mirrors. No A/C in June/July is ridiculous.
The pad thai tasted like it was made with ketchup, and the tofu was cooked to death. Completely dried out. The food arrived in less than 5 mins, meaning it was all precooked and waiting to be microwaved at a moments notice. This explains why the food that took less than 5 mins to prepare was so hot you could get 3rd degree burns if you dropped a noodle on you. I asked the waiter when he asked how we liked our food, if ketchup was used and he told us he didn't know, he just started there that week. Never offered to check and never bothered to ever come back.
Some random person brought the bill even though our waiter was still there. The only edible things were the appetizers, which, to be honest, were probably commercially made and just cooked there from frozen.
I suggest going to the other thai restaurant in the same strip mall. It's not as nice looking but the service was great and the food was much better.
2 stars for the decent frozen apps we got.

The waitress was very attentive. However, there is nothing special about the food. It was just okay.
This is the place you want to go if you want AUTHENTIC THAI.The owner was more than welcoming and sweet to us and the food was AMAZING! The restaurant is clean and beautiful. I would recommend 10/10 if you are looking for delicious Thai and they have amazing Sushi!
Excellent food in a lovely setting. The servers were young but well trained and polite. Beautiful salt water fish tanks. We had duck fried rice and green curry chicken. This venue could accommodate large groups. Didn’t care for the 70s light music.
Such a great place. I crave it every day and their lunch special is a great deal! Also great if you have dietary restrictions like vegetarian/gluten free and there are plenty of options for you! :)
Very rarely will you come across a place like this. Yellow curry was perfect and the Thai tea was the best I've ever tried. I don't know the names to who which served me but thanks for being so kind. If I'm ever back in Virginia again I know where I'm going.
Great food
Delicious curry and attentive service—mindful of our allergies. Definitely worth a stop!
The food and service was amazing! The owner, May, was friendly and attentive. We will definitely be coming back for more!
One of the Best touches on Thai food I have had. And this after having traveled to Thailand four times and enjoyed many Thai restaurants around the world. The Yellow Curry dish I had was nuanced and complex and not over-powering with hot spices. The brother-sister ownership adds a most personal touch to the atmosphere of this business. Beautiful high ceilings and decor with cloth tablecloth makes this a delightful setting.
Everything was very good. Our waiter did a really good job. Our food was fresh and tasty.
The pineapple fried rice was delicious and they added some extra ingredients at my request. However I received white rice instead of fried rice which was most likely a misunderstanding. My lunch was ready quickly and service was good. I will be a regular.
Great food and friendly staff!
First time we went out cost $50 for 2 people during lunch. We shared a lunch entree and rice, papaya salad, and spring rolls. The food came out fast and was good. The ambiance is soft and cozy with good music that's not too loud or distracting.
The second time we came was around the holidays. They decorated for the holidays and played soft festive music. It was extra cozy and our server was fantastic! We got Papaya salad again, spicy crispy duck breast and mango sticky rice.
The portions are nicely sized. The mango sticky rice was very yummy. The papaya salad was better the first time we came, but it was still yummy the second time. The crispy duck wasn't very spicy or crispy, but it was still good flavor wise.
Only real negative things I have to say is that the ceiling, carpet, and bathrooms could use an update.
We ordered takeout last night and absolutely loved everything!! Excellent food, friendly service, reasonable prices. Yum!!!
MaiMai has a great Thai restaurant and she is a great hostess! When we drive down from Canada, this restaurant is THE restaurant we look forward to enjoying throughout our several month stay. Flavorful Thai dishes are plated nicely and presented on a clean tablecloth with a little flower at each table. Kids (and adults!) will enjoy viewing the large aquarium with colorful fish. Emerald Thai does not ever disappoint!
Fabulous dinner for all four of us! One of the best Thai meals we have had. At home in Canada we eat a lot of Thai food. Tempura was by far the best. Batter was light and crispy and delicious. Service was amazing. The Thai coconut pudding dessert was a new experience and delicious! We highly recommend this lovely restaurant!
Outstanding Thai food! May is the best, so friendly and I wish her well with the restaurant! The food selections is excellent and my dish, the pad Thai, was fantastic. The dumpling appetizer was also amazing. Highly recommend!
I have loved coming here for years! The food and service are always amazing!

Amazing food. Consistently delicious with very friendly staff!
The yellow curry is the best I’ve ever had! The owner is so kind and I always have excellent service! Definitely recommend!
Great service and great food ! The drunken noodles are so good I can’t get enough !
The food is terrific! I can't say enough about the crab rangoon! We had a variety of items and everything was great. The staff there was so nice!
Ordered takeout of Emerald Rice, tempera veggies and a side order of house veggies. We were surprised how fresh and delicious all was. We will definitely be going there again. We would highly recommend.
A hidden gem in Williamsburg. We think this is the best Thai in town.
Excellent Thai food from a simple, yet detailed, menu of options and spiced-to-order perfectly.
Tasty food and friendly service. Will be coming back!
Food was excellent..I was impressed...service was good definitely going back..thank you
I lived in Thailand for 4 years and have struggled to find Thai food in the US that tasted authentic. Most American Thai restaurants really change the flavor to fit more with what Americans like, which is annoying. This place has been, by far, the most authentic tasting that I have found, it was really good. I will definitely go again. I recommend the kaprow gai kai dow (it's a stir fry dish that has nicely seasoned chicken and a fried egg on top) I ate that almost everyday in Thailand, usually with minced pork instead of chicken though, and this place is the only place that tasted like it could have been from Thailand.
Food Quality exceeded my expectations 5/5
A-MAY-ZINE!!!!!! May is an amazing host. I ordered to-go and ended up staying to sit and eat and have a conversation with her. She took the time to offer different sauces and flavorings to help my desire for spicy food. EXCELLENT customer service. Definitely going to come back again to try the duck!
The service and the food was outstanding. Best Crab Rangoons I have had in a while. The owner is super friendly and restaurant is beautiful on the inside.
Best egg rolls I ever had
After a long day at Busch gardens, we ordered to go and picked up food from here. We brought it back to the hotel. Everything was amazing, especially loved the house fried rice. Thank you.
This restaurant was spectacular! We went after a day at Busch Gardens and not wanting to eat park food. This restaurant is barely a ten minute drive away from the park, and it is an absolute must!

Our new favorite Thai restaurant!!! Everything was so delicious and service was outstanding! We lived in Thailand before and this is the best we’ve had in VA. อร่อยมาก
From out of State, stopped in for Thai food to avoid the mission in the freeway. Had been craving Thai, and this was great! Tom Kha soup, papaya salad, spicy crispy duck (so good(, and the crab fried rice. All delicious, and you know it's hard to find a Thai place that does a good job on several dishes. So glad we stopped.
Just had a fabulous dinner of coconut soup, crab rice, crispy duck & papaya salad. Great service!
The only reason that this restaurant is not 5 stars is because the portions are small in comparison to the price. The food was really good and I’m hard to please with Thai food. We had different curries, which we both enjoyed.
This was just okay, and not worth the price.
I love Thai food, it's my favorite type of food after Indian food. This was disappointing though. I found the dishes to be bland, not very flavorful, and not very spicy. In particular, the Thai fried rice lacked any sauce and seasoning, even salt. The seasonings on the curry dishes were very generic, it tasted like the type of Thai food that you would make at home from a pre-mixed package. I hate to write something so negative, but considering the prices being charged here-nearly $20 per dinner - I expected much much more.
The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was clean.
LOVE THIS PLACE!! Delicious 🥰
Consistently good food and a very friendly staff. We enjoy the sauces and veggies.
Give it a try!
The best Thai food in Hampton Roads and fairly priced. Restaurant is always clean, very nice and relaxing atmosphere.
The food is not as good as it was with the previous ownership. The decor has been upgraded and is nicely done. Prices are higher, food came out lukewarm, and lunch no longer has a small side salad and costs more. The server got my order wrong. Not sure I will return.
Update: I returned and have the same opinion as the first time, even more so. This time I ordered the side salad and the lettuce was warm. Apparently, the server put the order in right away, as the food came out too soon as they were not busy. I will not be going back.
If I could give 10 stars I would! I live 3 hours from this place, and every time I come see family here I come straight to Emerald Thai! Over 10 years now. I was pleasantly surprised today when I saw all the updates and beautiful paint job the new owners did. The new owners are extremely friendly as an added plus! Definitely recommend!
New owner! Very friendly staff. Give it a try!
They have the best crispy duck!
.....Beautiful atmosphere!!....We especially love all the colorful saltwater fish tanks, as decor!.....The food is fantastic with lots of flavor, comes out quickly and always tastes super fresh!!....The staff is friendly and attentive!.... It has definitely become one of our favorite local dining spots!!
Great food and great service
Good to average food. This restaurant needs some maintenance. The bathrooms were in need of cleaning and repair. The bar area looks like the roof is falling down.
Very good food, flavor and portions! Very friendly atmosphere, waitress was very friendly and easy to ask question too. This restaurant is being upgraded and just starting under new management, so I expect some little changes as they come. Prices have been going up everywhere since Joe Biden stole the Election...
Sehr freundlicher Empfang und Service, tolles Essen. SEHR empfehlenswert!
My second visit wasn’t nearly as good as the first. The chicken was chewy and it was suppose to come with vegetables, but I only got broccoli. I also ordered the tempura vegetables and the only vegetables I could identify were broccoli and onions. No carrots or bell peppers. Additionally some were over cooked and hard to eat and others were doughy inside.
I’m really disappointed to leave this review, considering I’ve been coming to Emerald’s since I was a teenager. It’s been brought to my knowledge recently that the owners have changed and it’s noticeable in the quality of the food. I ordered crab fried rice and there was barely any crab in it. The rice was also incredibly hard and there were multiple clusters of hard rice throughout the container.
What I ate was ok. I ordered an appetizer and a special Mango Red Curry. Waiter never placed the order for the appetizer and tacked an extra charge on the "Special". If I ever go back here I will not have this guy as my waiter.
Er du glad i Thai mat så få du det her, greit og god mat.
The food is great! I can’t wait to get back each drill weekend to eat everything on the menu! My favorite is the emerald house fried rice and the chicken satay. The zombie drink is great as well. The staff are very friendly and they are quick. Lots of food at a great price!!!
In the restaurant is so wonderful and delicious food taste also very good service staff and pretty 🤭💕🙏🏻
Went recently to see what the new owner has done. While much prettier decor, the cost of the food has gone up, the green curry (my favorite) is now watery, no lunch prices only dinner prices and lunch no longer comes with a soup or salad, the service is slower and the food came out less than hot. This was one of my favorite restaurants, but no longer.
My food was actually good. The service was horrible and we were literally the only 2 people in the restaurant. I will never go here again
Service was great even though they were short staffed. She was pleasant and made sure we had everything we needed. And the food was amazing. Nice place to have so close to home in Williamsburg.
The best spicy crispy duck I ate in a while!
Big goldfish with a funny head!
Great discovery! Real Thai food and friendly owner.
Ordered an appetizer, soup, and entrée, all came out at the same time. They took the entrée back, and when they brought it out after I finished the appetizer and soup, it was cold. They tried to say that they made a new meal, but that was nonsense. Plus, it was supposed to be a spicy dish, and the spice was nonexistent.
We had a few different dishes and all lacked flavor. Drunken noodles was mostly vegetables with a few noodles and no spice even though we asked for it to be spicy. I was very disappointed.
Basil fried rice had 2 pecies of basil and no spice and no flavor at all. They need need recipes soon to survive.
Had Ginger Deluxe. Flavors fresh not overpowering but lunch portion small. Left Hungry!!
Welcome to Xanadu for decor (80's) old and tired. Dirty floors even in bathrooms. Salad was 2 bites. No outdoor seating. Server clearly didn't want to be there. Only 2 parties and took forever. Didn't ask if we wanted anything to drink. Good for take-out but order double. Will nit be returning.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZINGGGGG!!!!!! Very family and kid friendly. The food was great and reasonably priced. My picky kids LOVED it!!
The food was AMAZING, and the proportions were plentiful!! The service was the best I’ve had. If I could rate more then 5 stars I would!! Definitely will be back for more!
My family and I started going to Williamsburg annually to visit Busch Gardens, now we go down twice to visit Emerald Thai Cuisine! The service was amazing and the food was divine. If I could move to Williamsburg to eat here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner I would.
Really good good, nice set up. Only negative AC was out when we went.
Delicious food, reasonably priced and very courteous staff.
We tried the pad Thai, the house fried rice, and the spring rolls. The shrimp fried rice is excellent and full of perfectly cooked shrimp. Plus it's one of the cheaper places to eat in the area and still get great food.
Restaurant dirty inside and bathroom very dirty and smelly. Food was ok but not great.
One of the best Thai restaurants in the area. We did a takeout and they were very generous portions, great taste and kids friendly. They even gave us all stuff to eat in the hotel. I would highly recommend.
I ordered a curry with chicken and fried spring rolls for lunch. Halfway through my meal, the server comes out and says he thinks he gave me a pork curry and is this a problem? I don't eat pig for religious reasons. Instead of getting angry, I said "let's make this right", returned the curry, ordered fried tofu (a vegetarian appetizer), and asked him to adjust the bill. The server reimbursed me for the curry, not the entire meal. 15 minutes later, the server came out again and said that he would have to charge me for the fried tofu because "they run a business". I smiled and left.
The restaurant's manager never came out to apologize for this mistake. I left hungry and with the distinct impression that this restaurant does not care that about my religion. If you do not eat pork, don't bother coming here. They will not care if they accidentally feed it to you.
Best Thai food in a hundred miles! I’ve checked.
Great as always
Green curry chicken and spring rolls were great! Service was a little slow, but definitely will go back
We came in tonight by accident. We were headed to the Italian place next door, but opted for Thai instead of a 30 minute wait. It was our lucky day! The pineapple rice, drunken noodles, cashew chicken, and curries were awesome. My husband raved about the crispy duck. The service was too notch. We were welcome and treated graciously from the moment we walked in, even though he seemed to be working the front alone. You won't be disappointed!
The decor is nice, the restaurant welcoming and clean. Service was prompt and courteous. The Tom kha Kai was rich and full did good things. The pineapple fried rice was perfectly spiced and delicious. And the mango and sticky rice was a wonderful topper for the meal. I’ll definitely be back!
The staff was very friendly. The food was reasonably priced and very good. I did ask for the spiciest level and didn't detect any hot
Had the duck, spicy basil pork and tempora veggies. Great service and food
This place has potential but as it currently stands I can't recommend it. They need to season their food better. I mean wayyyyyyyy better. Everything was so bland I started checking my temperature for the vid
Seems like they're stepping up the flavor a bit. Way better now.
There were not many positives on our visit to this restaurant. We dined here on a Saturday night and the place was mostly empty. The staff seemed friendly enough throughout our experience. The decor and the interior is poor. It is a dank, musty room with high ceilings. Very odd feeling and has a sour odor about it. The bathrooms are even worse. The Tom Yum soup was actually very good, but significantly over priced for what you receive. At home we get three times the amount of soup at almost the same price from the actually Thai restaurant near our house. The spicy basil chicken is a joke. The sauce is basically water and there were only one or two basil leaves that we could find. This place has some potential, but for now, I would not recommend eating here.
Tourist Trap, I've lived in this area for a few years now and realized that several restaurants are ok with being mediocre and living off of the tourist industry. Unfortunately I think this place is one of them. My wife and I ordered from here tonight and were both still hungry after our dinners. I ordered the cashew chicken, as it's one of my favorites at that restaurants. Not only was the portion size small like I mentioned above, but I literally had one cashew in the cashew chicken. Maybe they should have named it cashew flavored chicken.
At the suggestion of my dental hygienist.
After a teeth cleaning she implored that I try Emerald Thai. Outstanding Thai food! The chicken satay with steamed vegetables and noodles. The peanut sauce is exceptional! Everything was delicious!
The staff are very friendly! I loved my meal. Thai. It!! You'll love it too!
Worst thai food I ever had. The soup wasn't edible to much lime juice. Wrong noodles used for pad Thai. Just disgusting
Worst "Thai" place that I've been to in years.. panda express would be a better choice or just drinking water. The Wonton soup broth was flavorless, the chicken pad thai was extremely dry (even with extra sauce) the noodles were crunchy while some noodles were cooked & under cooked on the same dish. The chicken was so dry it could bounce and was cold at its center. The drunken noodles were mushy & all shrimp in the dish were covered in shell & it had way more vegetables vs noodles ratio & only 5 pre frozen shrimp. My youngest daughter got the chicken tenders kids meal. The chicken tenders were the ones from the frozen chicken nuggets isle in the grocery store in the red bag & the crinkle fries were also frozen food isle ones. Their sprites were all from cans. Their top shelf tequila & vodka were jose & absolute. The food was a disaster to the point we canceled our to go order of basil rice chicken . In addition to leaving hungry there were numerous dents covered in paint on the walls, dim lighting even during the early evening hrs & there were outlets falling out the walls near our table.
The people were nice, but the food was just food. You need flavor to compete in the business these days... Which includes adding things like soy sauce, ginger and garlic to the dish. The spring rolls and fried rice needed a good dose of love.
Do yourself a favor... If you are feeling like Thai tonight, change your ethnic pallet to Italian and go next door
I have lunch here all the time and the food is always on point. Service is great and fast and prices are excellent for how much food you get!!
Don't live near this location but stopped by for some shrimp pad Thai noodles on my way home & they were delicious. THEY WERE GENEROUS WITH THE SHRIMP! Did an online order & picked up. They did not include plastic utensils at first but they happily provided them when we asked. Would recommend for sure!
I must say Emerald Thai is by far my favorite Thai restaurant and the food is Awesome
Always great food. Can't go wrong here!
Had the Pad Woon Sen with chicken and a thai coffee. It was all very good. I will definitely try again next time I am in town.
Kids love the fish tanks. Friendly service. We got papaya salad, pad see ew, shrimp in a blanket, pork dumplings, Thai iced tea, sticky rice with mango. Low key place. Our kids ran all over the place and we were tolerated.
The pad thai tasted and looked like spaghetti noodles
I live in northern Maryland (4hrs away) and I am trying to work out how I can get them to provide delivery to my house. Best Thai food I have had in a long time. We visit Busch Gardens regularly so we will definitely return.
We did dine-in, and the restaurant has very friendly and welcoming staff, and plentiful sanitizing supplies. The decor is a bit shabby and dated. However, the food was delicious with generous portions, attractively presented. We had Pad Thai and a fried rice dish and they were excellent.
Hit or miss
Pad thai. 😋
Love this place! You have to try the Sticky Rice and Mango.
Homemade hot food.
I regularly order from here and only half the time they fulfill my request for spice tray spices which with that my meal isn’t the same. I ordered the Pad Broccoli with Seafood and it was a super bland dish and my seafood didn’t seem as fresh as usual, highly disappointed with my meal this time and probably will order elsewhere from now on.
Best Thai food in town! Green curry is my favorite!
Had the panang curry was too watery- lacked flavor!
Great food & Service!! The staff is always very friendly, polite, & helpful!!
We’ve been eating at Emerald Thai since they opened and have had nothing but delicious meals! Eating in the restaurant is always fun, but I especially love to order it to go and eat at home when I don’t feel like cooking. One of my favorites in Williamsburg!
Excellent quality food. Sizzling seafood hot plate is top notch. Soups are fantastic.
Best Thai in a friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend. One of our favorite places to eat! Make sure to try their homemade peanut sauce!
Great lunch, the food was delicious but the service was a little off. Forgot to give us utensils and ask for our drink orders.
The best Pad See Ew in town. And the curry, too. This place is my favorite.
I had an excellent Curry and my wife enjoyed her drunken noodles. Staff was very friendly. Would have been 5 stars, but noodles we're slightly over cooked.
Terrible everything. Food, service, speed all terrible. Some in the party liked their food okay. Careful what you order. Stick to the regular staples of Thai. Feels like they've given up running a restaurant. Good candidate for that restaurant rescue TV show.
We couldn't eat the food. I won't return.
So many good choices. Great service.
Great service. Godd food
I would not recommend. 3 in our party ordered Drunken Noodles and it was AWFUL! (Picture below) They didn't use wide noodles, it was swimming in liquid, it was no way spicy and they used GROUND Chicken! 🤢 I should have given them the number to Heng's Thai-Sushi in Springfield, PA so they could ask how to make Drunken Noodles. My family will not patronize Emerald Thai Cuisine again. Period!
It was a let down on some aspects but the pork fried rice was good. No need to go back, there are better places in the burg.
