If you’re looking for authentic Thai cuisine, look no further.
Muttika puts her heart and soul into the restaurant, exploring and creating new and flavorful dishes. She grows many of the authentic Thai spices she uses in her restaurant, such as lemongrass, and Thai chili. Once she perfects a dish, she directs the Chef and offers it on her menu.
The food is authentic Thai food so customers get the complete Thai experience. Her desire is to make customers feel like they are in Bangkok, Thailand. She maintains her restaurant like the Thai culture, with royal Thai artwork to add to the atmosphere as well as the presentation of our lovely crew.
Crispy Duck is the heart and soul of Thai Luang.
We went here for dinner on a weekend and the place was a bit busy. We tried the spicy basil fried rice, panang fried rice and basil tofu. All the dishes were more on the sweet side, had mild flavours with less seasoning.
The portions were pretty good and service was quick. Overall, this is a decent spot for the price point.
Quiet Thai place. Good service. Food is good overall. Their specialty is duck but no one at our table was in eating duck mood. We ordered Yellow Curry, Papaya salad, Pad Thai, Tom Ka Gai soup, followed by a pot of Jasmine tea and Mango Sticky Rice. The soup was our favorite - very flavorful. Pad Thai was good but somewhat on a sweeter side (some other Thai places make their Pad Thai sweeter as well, so not sure if it’s a regional variation). We ordered papaya salad mild but it was very spicy. Tea and dessert were good.
There are a lot of choices for Thai in northern Virginia, and I’ve sampled quite a few. I’ve been coming to Thai Luang for over 25 years now, and they remain one of the best. The quality of their food is simply a step above everyone else.
From a guy that's from NYC this place is authentic. They have a lot of duck dishes and are not cheap on the meat. Spice level is spot on and the taste is just right. You will not be disappointed.
Ambiance matches the Thai theme of the restaurant. Music adds another dimension to it.
Service is good and quick. A section of tables are arranged close to each other so when it’s busy it feels packed and you might hit some elbows.
Food is good and portion sizes are great. Entrees can be shared. Drunken chicken noodles and fried rice had its own unique taste and was good.
Abundant parking spaces available.
This place is a home run easy the food is to die for the service is amazing and staff is awesome and when you go there it just fill like home and for anyone kid or adult thai tea hands down for drink and for foods thai custard with sticky rice and food well there is so much and so many great options to choose from.
I ordered takeout. The women who answered the phone was the calmest sweetest woman I've ever spoken too. (too cute). The food came with cute messages inscribed on the top and contents... SO FREAKING GOOD!!! Will 100% be back.
My SO grew up in Thailand and picked up the food. When he came back, he was like "I hope you like this, because this place was like walking into a little price of Thailand".
Really good authentic Thai food. Little pricey but worth it to me.

Everything was amazing!

Great Food and Good Service! I highly recommend the Crispy Duck 🦆 with Sweet Basil Leaves!
Absolutely delicious. Papaya salad was bomb. Same with the curry. 100p recommend.
Best pad Thai I’ve ever had! Friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommend and we will be back!
Been going to Thai Luang for 21 years & everytime I am in the area I make sure to order the crispy basil duck. I order 2 portions to make sure I can enjoy this delicious dish the next day. I have traveled far & wide to see if I can come close to this flavor & nothing comes close…Thai Luang for the WIN!
Unbelievable experience
Really good Thai food and medium Thai is very spicy
Best Thai, by an Asian mile.
One of the best Thai food in the area
Just had the best dinner here! Everything was so fresh and delicious. I had the peanut sauce chicken and my friends ordered the drunken noodles. This is the best thai restaurant ive ever been to.
Portions were big but Curries were too soupy and mediocre at best. Jumbo shrimp was really bad so we sent it back. Staff was friendly.
The crispy duck is excellent. The rest is average. The serving sizes are super large though, so you're basically full after one dish.
The food was great! Quiet yet comfortable. The staff were friendly too! We ordered garden rolls, fried tofu, Panang curry, red curry, cashew nuts, and drunken noodles and it was all fabulous! The portions were large too. Great Thai spot that we will be going back to!
30yrs and still on fire! American hot hurts at both ends. #3 you will need extra napkins to mop up the sweat. Soo good.
Very good drunken noodle. Great level of spice and friendly staff. Quick service and authentic dishes
UPDATE: I've been eating Thai food here for 30 years and the food is still the best in the DC area!!!
Very nice. Great food
Had a great dinner with dinner friends. Always love the Crispy Basil Duck. It's so good! Nice portions!
Great food with exceptional service.
One of best Thai food in Reston Herndon area... Not the fanciest but if taste is important go here. Also they truly mean their spice quotient
Food would be better if the servers have more attention to each individual customer dinning specialty THE NEW FACES AROUND THE PLACE .. ask for medium spice ! food came out SUPER EXTREME SPICY !! I
Great food, big portions!!
My favorite Thai restaurant bar none ! Great food
Great crispy duck with basil and great papaya salad (but spicy). Not super cheap. Yellow curry good but not amazing.
Never buy the crispy chicken, its so hard you cannot chew, $28 down the drain
The garlic crispy chicken was absolutely not edible. We couldn’t even chew the chicken it was so hard. When we complained to the waiter and manager, all they had to say was “sorry”. No refunds and no replacement. That was very inconsiderate. I’m not going there again ever!
Really delicious spring rolls and duck pad see ew. The staff was very attentive and the food was quick and hot as well as tasty. I’m visiting the area but if I lived here I would definitely become a regular at Thai Luang!
Had a very bad experience in the taste of the food. Looks like the chef might have changed. Taste of the food is worst it was totally disappointing.
We ordered delivery this evening including two Pad Thai with chicken and additional mushrooms; one with mildly spicy (1 chili) and one non spicy (no additional spicyness). BOTH Pad Thai orders were very spicy, much more than the single chili spiciness so two of our household could not eat it! Unfortunately this is not the first time the delivery or takeout failed to match what we ordered.
Never disappoint.
The food here is fresh and dishes are prepared in a variety of ways. The spices are home-grown and authentic Thai chili peppers, very spicy and tasteful! I normally order Thai Hot food, I recommend Spice Level 2 unless you are very tolerant. The service is outstanding, my server Rang was so helpful and considerate. She gave me Thai Iced Tea to help with the spices. This restaurant has existed for about three decades, please try!
Ordered chicken soup, chicken was very dry and chewy, canceled main chicken meal order because they confirmed same exact dry chicken, so I replaced it with fried rice, that is almost not fried with vegi that almost touched the frying pan, healthy like a hospital meal! High stars for the employees only.
I have been a loyal patron for 19 years. The food is magical!
The staff is THE BEST, the kitchen is AMAZING!
I drive past dozens of Thai restaurants to Thai Luang.
Best Thai restaurant in the Herndon area. Exceptional food which genuinely makes my day when I eat it. In terms of taste and satisfaction the food here is the best around. Thai Luang is also very accommodating for different dietary restrictions and provides wonderful quality for all of their food.
We hadn’t been here in a very long time. Hands down great experience. Had Thai dumplings, chicken Satay, and Tom Sum papaya salad for appetizers. Pad Thai, crispy duck with Thai basil, and red Curry for mains. Every dish was flavorful and the flavors came through brilliantly even with the heat. A family owned place with attention to service.
Food so good you'll be thinking about it the rest of the week.
My family goes here for small family reunions. Always good food, has a classy but not super fancy atmosphere.
Delicious Mother’s day lunch special with a complimentary dessert. Very attentive service.
The best in the area hands down. Been going here for 20 years never bad service or bad food.
Another family favorite! Always excellent food and service!
Excellent restaurant! Great food, quick service! I loved my shrimp curry and fried tofu here. Size portion is really big.
Good food
Local Thai place that has been around forever underneath an office building. Great place for traditional Thai restaurant dishes. Anything crispy that they make is guaranteed to be amazing. The crispy beef and duck are incredible. Definitely a mom and pop place and wouldn't want it any other way.
Great food, great service! My favorite Thai restaurant in the area! Crispy duck and fried whole founder, and drunken noodles are my favorite!
Best Thai restaurant in DMV. Try the duck curry. Always great service
Excellent food and service.
This is my favorite restaurant in the area and favorite Thai restaurant period. I took a bunch of clients here, and we ordered about half the menu. The food and service were both excellent. Get the crispy duck!
I love padthai and sticky rice!
Best Thai in VA
Thai Luang duck noodle soup is “The Best”!
We ordered chicken fried rice and beef drunken noodle, both came in good size portions. The fried rice was just plain fried rice and chicken. Not a vegetable in sight. (We've ordered this at other Thai restaurants and had veggies in them). Flavor was ok. I had specified spicy for my drunken noodles and boy were they ever! There must have been about a million chili seeds in the dish rendering it hard to enjoy the meal. My bad for ordering spicy. Lots of beef , though most were tough. The dish also had gravy which was a first for me. I'll give this place a miss next time we feel like having Thai.
My fiancé and I ordered the Panang Curry and the Drunken Noodles - both were extremely bland. The veggies were overcooked, the protein was dry. Only spice was from the red chili flakes, with no other discernable flavors. Extremely disappointed because it had such high reviews... Y'all let me down on this one.
Thai Luang excels in every category. Their dishes have deep, authentic flavor. The service is second to none: friendly, attentive, speedy, and accurate. It is a beautiful place to eat with attractive, but not overly kitsch or ostentatious, decor. I enjoyed the crispy duck soup and it was the best I've had in the area. The duck was flavorful and impeccably textured. I will come back many times more and eagerly recommend to friends.
Drunken noodles, Tom kha, and curry puffs. Curry puffs were palatable but were obviously frozen from a purveyor. The drunken noodles were awful. Tomato based soup basically. Very spicy which is fine, but absolutely no flavor depth whatsoever. The Tom kha was basically chicken noodle soup with too much water in it. Even the rice tasted like nothing.
Best Thai restaurant in DC metro area
The food was delicious and the service was great. Would recommend
good.
We have been coming here for more than a decade. They know the friends we fined with well. The food and service is always the very best.
Thoroughly impressed
The food was great and the special lil “Thank You dumplings” added an extra touch of sweetness to everything. Whomever came up with that idea. Bravo!!!! because it allows the customer to taste something that they may have not origin ordered. I will definitely order again from this establishment.
We have been to this restaurant multiple times and have always loved the food, but during the last couple times ,the food quality has become really bad.Recently,we had the crispy duck, which was over cooked & pad-see-ew was cold & didn’t seem fresh at all.
It was good. Very good service and I really liked that you can choose the level of spicy
I've been coming to Thai Luang for 20 years and love this place. Service is always friendly and attentive and the food is consistently excellent. While there are many newer Thai restaurants in the local area, I always come here and have never been disappointed.
Awful. Chicken korat was just minced chicken and grean beans. Thai fried rice was mushy. And ive had diarrhea for the last 3 hours. Ruined my whole day. Thanks
Without question, consistently the best Thai in Northern Virginia. We have enjoyed Thai Luang since living in Herndon over 17 years ago. We continue to drive here passing countless over options to enjoy the best of the best!
Wonderful food. Great staff! This is a favorite and somewhere I eat everytime I'm in town. I order "off menu" to get exactly what I want, and the wait staff never even blinks when I order "off menu." The spiciness of the food is always exactly as I order it.
Thai themed restaurant serving authentic thai dishes. Ambience, decorations, music, staff etc. are all decked up Thai-style to complete the feeling of Asian restaurant. Service is quick and food is delicious. I personally like vegetable spring rolls, pad thai, thai-style soups, spicy fried rice and chicken khao soi. Especially, thai iced tea is so soothing and delicious that you'll like to visit again.
Duck was over cooked, I used to love this place for its consistent 5 star service and food but now it’s just another meh experience
Based on the good reviews, I tried this place last night. I’m not sure what happened, but all the food was disgusting.
Pad Thai noodles were inedible as they were grossly overcooked
Shrimp was either cooked frozen or also simply overcooked.
Crispy duck was cold. Not even lukewarm. Cold.
Fried rice was mushy.
Overall, one of the most disappointing experiences in Herndon and I will certainly never go back to this place.
This place sucks!!Their red snaper dish is not red snapper. They are basa fish or tilapia fried in lots of flour and GMO canola oil and fake it to be red snapper and there is barely any fish in there. The service sucks too!!!! Very very disappointed. The price is way high and not worth it!!!! Do not go there you will regret it!!!
Very good Thai restaurant.
A very good value!
Great service
Very good food
Always great food and excellent service.
Good ambience, but it is a touch overpriced. I don’t mind paying at a nice setting like here, but the food quality is a little inconsistent to my liking. I found better value places near by.
I went with a group of 4 and we stuffed ourselves with several appetizers and then I ordered the chicken entree with peanut sauce. AMAZING! We definitely plan on making TL a routine stop!
Just had lunch with my daughter today here after a long time. This place used to be my favorite Thai restaurant in the area. However, today’s lunch was very disappointing. Beef was tough to chew, the duck was cold. I suspect everything was pre made and the chef just microwaved before serving.
The best Thai cuisine in the DC area! Their duck dishes are phenomenal. I’m also a fan of their papaya salad (som tum). Great food!
Duck noodle soup is always good and yummy as usual.
We moved from Herndon many years ago and Thai Luang is still a top choice for us, it is so delicious, this is the only restaurant where I will break my otherwise hard dietary rules, it is just too good.
Crispy Duck the best as everyone who goes there knows it. :) Please be careful with the spice level you order if you cannot handle spicy food.
Excellent Thai Food, Great ambience and enjoyed dinner, People are very nice.
The food was very great! I would 100% reccomend, the service was excellent, it reminded me of my deceased grandmother's cooking😍❤
Food is Delicious!!! Very flavorful! Great customer service.
Their food are good, I really plan to dine in preferable. Since I have to wait for some construction come in to my house, I do take out.
Beyond Excellent food. Very hospital staff. Will definitely eat there again.
Worst food I ever had. Ordered the expensive crispy duck but did not finish eating it. The beef curry is also horrible. Waited for 40 minutes for this order. Gave 1 star because it does not allow me to give 0 star.
Fantastic duck and enough for two people. The Thai dumplings were delicious. Will definitely be back.
Amazing place to have genuine and authentic Thai food. The servers are really nice and courteous. They help you customize your options too. The place is pretty near and clean.Authentic and delicious. One of the few local thai eateries around
This is the BEST Thai food I’ve ever had! Authentic and very reasonably priced. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. We come back here as often as we can even though we’ve moved out of the area.
The Thai basil chicken is very good!
Went based on great reviews, but was CRAZY hot. I’ve eaten Thai around the world and chose a mild level 2. Dishes were absolutely covered in chili flakes, and inedible to entire family. Either a mistake or way off on their scale.
Best thai ever. Been going here 20+ years.
It was really really really good Thai iced tea. Food was excellent very spicy good vegetarian options excellent place to go and have fun and enjoy a serene experience.
I have been eating here for at least 14 years. The food and service are truly top notch. (Secret - If “Thai Hot” isn’t hot enough for you, then order it “John Hot”. It’s a heat level that's not listed on the menu. 😉)
I should have realized, the restaurant has few customers - food probably not good. We order few weeks items everything sucks except service
The best Thai food in the area. So fresh, and authentic as it gets. Medium hot for me, American hot for my husband. It’s a true treat to get to come here. We’ve been coming her for over five years and it’s been extremely consistent with quality and taste. Value as well. Lunch species is wonderful! A must if you love Thai food! Delicious as it gets. Love the family friendly staff as well. Always smiles!! A gem 💎 for Elden street!!
My favorite Thai place in Northern Virginia! Their duck basil is the best I’ve ever had and is a must try. I’ve been there many times and always have great service. They make you feel like family there.
Delicious
One of THE best Thai spots in Northern VA!! Having lived in Thailand, I can attest that this food is authentic, delicious, and nearly unmatched in the area. Highly, highly recommend!!
Good food and nice service.
its was very delicious
Consistently delicious!
Very consistent and delicious. I like the green curry.
First time there food was great.
One of the best Thai restaurants I've ever been to! I highly recommend the Northeastern (Isaan) style curry! It tasted very authentic, and I appreciated that Thai hot was actually Thai hot! 🔥🥰
My favorite Thai restaurant. Hard to find but worth the effort!
Terrific northeast style curry
My favorite Thai place ever. I've lived in the Herndon/Reston area for 45 years and Thai Luang was here when I got here. They do a fantastic job making some amazing dishes. Please go here or order carryout. Order anything... you wont be disappointed.
Staff were very friendly. Restaurant is COVID sensitive.
Chicken drunken noodles, chicken pad Thai and crispy vegetable spring rolls were excellent. The satay chicken was a little overcooked for me but I recognize that there are regional presentation styles and different tastes. I'll definitely return and have no hesitation in recommending it.
Delicious! The spring rolls are delicious!
Fresh roll was fantastic, same with chicken satay. The drunken noodles I thought were a bit watery and overcooked.
Drunken Noodles
I have been eating at Thai luang for over 20 years. It is as authentic as you can find in the areA, always consistent and if you like your food spicy, they do it well. Every dish I have has has been good or great. So no complaints. During COVID-19, with takeout, things haven’t been as consistent in terms of flavor, but still good.
amazing food,,, really liked the authentic Thai taste
Stellar food!
Thai Luang serves up what I believe to be authentic, non-Americanized and absolutely delicious Thai delicacies. I discovered it through a frienda few years back and I've been returning regularly with family and friends! Everything is always delicious and the staff friendly and courteous.
Great service. The crispy chicken and crispy beef dishes are awesome. Excellent spring rolls, Thai iced tea and Thai iced coffee.
It used to be an amazing Thai spot. For some reason, the standard has come down exponentially. They need to Up their game if they have to stay in contention
I went at night and the interior is dingy and dated. The food was relatively average: the green papaya salad was pretty standard, the Northeast style curry was entirely forgettable (it's pretty bland and more like a tom yum soup than an actual curry), and my wife's stir-fried noodles (I forget which specific dish it was) was alright. That being said, there's better options and I probably won't be coming back.
This place is the bomb!!
Excellent food and you get a good level of spiciness to choose from if you like your Thai with a little bite.
Great authentic Thai foods. Friendly service.
Great duck specials.
It's one of the few places in Herndon that's authentic Thai food. It's good too
Good food, friendly staff and great service
The food was delicious.
Delicious, authentic Thai cuisine!
This is my go-to Thai place. The food is delicious, and the staff is super friendly. I've tried other Thai places in the area, and nothing quite hits the spot like Thai Luang.
My favorites are their crispy duck with thai basil, and their drunken noodles. I usually also order a side of the panang curry sauce to drizzle on whatever I get because it is out of this world amazing. Anything with their crispy duck is delicious though! In the winter I love their duck noodle soup, which is warm and comforting. In the summer, their duck salad is refreshing and light. For lunch, I also like their spicy fried rice. Their dessert is also SO good. Get the coconut ice cream or the mango sticky rice (or both). So delicious.
You can customize the spiciness level of your food, and they don't mess around. If you like super spicy food, get "Thai hot" and you'll be pleased, but beware, it is SUPER spicy. If you're feeling less adventurous, ask for their spice tray and you can add spices to fit your palate. The chilis in fish sauce is especially great. I would recommend ordering a Thai iced tea on the side which can help soothe the spiciness.
The employees are always super attentive, and treat you like family. I always feel so welcome when we come in. They seem genuinely happy to see you and help with anything you have questions on/any customizations you request.
This is my favorite restaurant in Reston, because the food and staff is so inviting and great. I would rate this place 10 out of 5 if I could!
Very good Thai with a wonderful staff.
