A menu of classic Thai dishes & drinks in a contemporary space with white walls & silver decor.
What was once good is now garbage. My wife picked up a $70 order tonight that consisted of food that was two maybe three days old (see pics). The noodles are so dry and caked together it was obvious this was made several days ago, I dare the manager of this restaurant to tell me this was fresh food. It should be Criminal to charge money for food that is several days old and call it fresh.
I was expecting a standard American Thai restaurant and this place blew my expectations out of the water. Each dish was packed with flavor, meat was tender, not one mistake in any dish we tried. The prices are very good for the portions. I highly recommend and will be coming back!
The drunken Spaghetti is so amazing. Spicy, but I couldn’t stop eating it.
Wait time is insane when I place my order 30 mins before I got to the restaurant. Restaurant was not busy inside at all. Unacceptable
Called and placed an order over the phone and specifically asked for lunch portion when I arrive to pick up the food she tells me they don’t do lunch portions on saturdays. It Seems like it was done on purpose to get me in the door. So my lunch went from $12 to $19 for a container of rice
This is a beautiful restaurant with good food. Tonight the service was very slow and the staff didn’t clear a single table in the 2 hours we were there. This made the restaurant feel dirty and made the customers feel unimportant and unwelcome.
Today I got the pad Thai combo with a side of spring roll. Unfortunately the spring rolls were all dry, somewhat burnt and empty inside. I was hopeful for the pad Thai but it was too sweet and 95 percent noodles and a bit of dry too. I even used all the extra pepper that they gave but it did not help with the sweet dryness. It kinda of tasted like candy with how sweet the sauce that they used made the whole meal. I’m usually satisfied with my regular order of shrimp fried rice but won’t get this meal again.
The food is high in quality and taste. Ambience and location is good too. Will visit again.
Good food and quantity , nice and clean atmosphere
Amazing. That is all. 😍

This whole experience was a little weird. We came for lunch so I cannot speak for how dinner goes. When we came in there was one other couple there. At first I thought maybe they closed at three because they were dirty tables (which were still dirty after we were there for an hour) and no one else was there. So, we were sat and we ordered food. The food took a very long time to come out, even though there were no other tables sat. We got our food and it was very good. It is very nice to have gluten-free options here. While we were waiting, our server fell asleep and was just sitting in the corner snoring for about 10 minutes. We finished up and got boxes. She came one more time to run the check and then sat back down at her desk. When we were leaving, there wasn’t a thank you or goodbye or anything. Literally zero acknowledgement The service was just very odd and not welcoming at all. Another employee was walking around while the other one was sleeping and snoring and didn’t say anything. I’m all about if you are sleepy and working lots of jobs are going to school, that you need rest because I have been there myself, but in front of customers? I thought that was a little unprofessional. Again, I cannot speak for dinner. Maybe it is very different. The food was good so I would recommend it, but I think that the service could use a little more warm and welcoming atmosphere. Maybe a little more attentiveness. Also, we got a curry entrée and a mixed vegetable entrée, and there were about three slices of peppers in the meal. Very limited number of vegetables and a small amount of chicken in the other entrée. Entree sizes were good, but it was primarily just the noodles. Our server never suggested or asked if we wanted dessert or appetizers. Didn’t tell about lunch specials. Didn’t ask if we want anything else to drink. The kid’s waters were empty and she never even asked if we wanted more. Really poor service and it didn’t seem like she cared at all if we were there or not. I have worked in the restaurant industry while going to school and working multiple jobs so I do understand being tired, but I just don’t think it’s appropriate to sleep in front of your customers and snore while they’re waiting 20 mins for their food. Please do better and reflect better for yourself. It does matter.
Thai green curry, red curry, and drunken noodle are amazing
Takeout portions are very small and the dish stated there were Bell peppers which there weren't. Not enough veggies, way overpriced for the portion size.
EXTREMELY RUDE STAFF REFUSED TO SERVE US BECAUSE I DIDN'T LEAVE A TIP LAST TIME. The reason I did not last time is because she did not check on us even once. Even though the restaurant was not busy, there was only one other table there. We did not have any waters left and never got them except the first one at the beginning.
Amazing Thai food. You must get the iron squid, I beg of you. Pad se ew was fantastic. My favorite in the area actually! Not much ambience but the food was great!
Located in the heart of Short Pump, this used to be a go-to place for Thai. However I must say recently the freshness of the ingredients has significantly declined. We ordered three entrees, pad Thai which should be a staple, pineapple fried rice another staple general Thai dish, and finally Ramu Tofu. Every single dish did not have the usual freshness of ingredients and was barely edible. I know it's hard to run a restaurant these days but fresh ingredients are a must. The restaurant also appeared to be understaffed, we didn't get an initial drink or any napkins. The Thai iced tea also appeared to be canned and not freshly made. I did get an Arnold Palmer and that was delicious and fresh. Overall with tip the bill was $75 .... My search for spectacular Thai food in Richmond continues. What used to be a very much spot on Thai restaurant locally is no longer.
We went during lunch hours on a Sunday. The food was fine and tasty. HOWEVER, the restaurant charged us dinner prices when we went during lunch hours! When questioned, an employee relayed that on weekends they charge dinner rates only. This was not at all mentioned in the menu. I left knowing we were scammed! This is not an ethical business practice. I won't be returning.
Would have given a 5 star rating if the food was not too sweet. All I could taste was the sweetness of the Chicken with Cashews. My husband had Ginger Perfect and our friend had Pad Thai and they both said it was too sweet. I asked the waitress if they could reduce the sugar and she said it is all part of their special ingredients. Too bad because we would love to come here every week as it is 4.5 miles from our house.
The best around
The food is good.
It's not the cleanest place I've been in. Pad thai is very salty and very little meat.
Got takeout from here and it has been some of the best Thai food I have had in Richmond. Just beware the slice level may be more than usual!
This is a hidden gem, right in center of Short Pump area. Delicious Thai food. So fresh and flavorful! Loved the Iron Squid!!
The place is quiet and not too busy, when we were there. We will be coming back.
Service is amazing every time here. I'm impressed with their food and portions. Often I suggest Sea By Thai to others.
Best Thai in Richmond!
Authentic Thai food, excellent flavours and spice. Great service and suggestions provided. Definitely recommend.
Solid Thai food. I live nearby and it’s my go to when I am in a pinch.
Appetizer (Iceberg lettuce wraps) were so very salty. Yellow curry was OK but on the sweet side and skimpy on the shrimp. If you are picky about authentic Thai food, I would NOT go here.
Hard to believe they charge for a full entree when the take out container contains less than half.
Dines in at Sea by Thai. Food was great as was the service. They tailored the spiciness to suit our tastes. We'll be back!!
Best Thai in the west end. Phenomenal.
We order 3 half trays of drunken noodles, fried rice, and red curry (+5 level spice). Drunken noodles have become lumps, and red curry wasn't spicy . Don't order large portions and ruin your parties.
Great food, the flavors were amazing. Waiters were very nice and knowledgeable.
Food was delicious!
Service was fantastic!
Atmosphere was very nice but those plastic chairs had me scared 🤣
I have been to this place few times in the past. Never disappointed on the food and always ordered different items from menu. Chef is passionate about cooking and checks in with the customers. I went there today with my colleagues and the service was extremely delayed by 40mins or so. That's the only complaint I've after many times. Food is good, the traditional Thai filet fish is a must. Caution with the some seeds, bit sour.
Food was great, but we ate in and the wait was super long
The fried rice with chicken is gooood.
Had to stop eating just to write how good the food is! Absolutely will be back.
Food was absolutely delicious, typical prices, and food came out quickly. The sauces and overall flavors make this place stand out. It all tastes like it was made right there. Definitely recommend.
There food taste okay ,but too little ,one dish not enough per person
Always DELICIOUS!! Great size portions, great quality, nice staff. ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️
The atmosphere is kind of ... weird. It feels mid-90s posh, if that makes sense. The food was good though, and the service was great.
Excellent food and service
Nice little spot. Not a fan of their Pad Thai but Pad Kee Mao is delicious. Service for take out was just meh.
Oh my gosh, easily my favorite Thai place in the RVA area. Their curry is to die for and I love their calamari! Go eat here
The best Thai food I’ve ever had!
Food is so tasty love the way put seasoning in their food, excellent customer service
Great Thai restaurant in Short Pump. Probably the only disappointment is the serving size is small for what you pay for.
This is by far my FAVORITE Thai Restaurant in all of Richmond and one of my favorites on this earth! The food is fresh, perfectly seasoned, and so consistent each time. I love their Pad Thai Combo and their Volcano Chicken is fire!!! We have tried many other items and they were all so delicious! The owner is also so friendly and honest. Saying I love this place is an understatement!
Food was good. But service was slow. In my opinion they should hire more people for service. First u have to wait for food then u have to wait for check.
Food was fantastic! The owner was so friendly and service was great. Definitely recommend:)
Rating is just for food (we did take-out). It wasn’t bad, wasn’t great. Probably won’t get food from here again, it just didn’t taste good enough.
Red curry is delicious!
Lunch at Sea by Thai with my younger brother. Was seated immediately, no waiting. Cute modern trendy decorations. Large menu with plenty of options. Ordered the vegetarian spring rolls for an appetizer, green curry with tofu and kapow jai (mixed vegetables). Spring rolls were hot and crispy, kapow jai was tasty with plenty of vegetables and a nice basil flavor with a hint of smoke (stir fry, reminiscent of food I ate while living in Thailand). The green curry was thick, which I really prefer, with lots of tofu and vegetables, including bamboo shoots which I particularly like in my green curry. Service was friendly and fast. Price was also good. Overall a very nice experience. Will return for lunch again.
We have been to Thai restaurants all over the country and after coming here once (for takeout), immediately declared this to be the best one in its price range. The calamari is outstanding, the drunken noodles (kee mao goong) are addicting, and the yellow curry is liquid gold. We plan to come back very regularly to try the rest of the menu!
Edit: we recently visited Thailand for 3 weeks and found ourselves frequently whispering at restaurants “Sea by Thai does it better.”
Best Thai food in Richmond. The volcano chicken is SO good. Pad see ew and pad Thai also delicious.
Best Thai Restaurant in Short Pump Area. Their must try dishes are Drunken Noodles & Thai Curry dishes.
Pad Thai is very good. Much fresher than some other places.
My go to Thai place. They never disappoint!
Drunken Noodles & Pad Thai are 🔥🔥🔥
: good food! : a little on the dry side crispy-duck should have a little juice (but) the duck was tender.
💭THE LETTUCE 🥬 WRAPS ARE THE 💣 BOMB🔊♥️!!
the food was excellent, the place was noisy and closes real early.
Duck special is amazing
The best of the best! great service, great food! Finally a place here that gets it! They appreciate your business too!!!
Literally the best thai food in richmond, maybe the state! I've tried every place within a hundred miles. No one comes close. Insanely good food!
Wonderful staff, atmosphere, and food (huge portions)! I will definitely come back again!
Do yourself a favor and try this place.. Here for a gun show and I try Thai food everywhere... So far this is the best of all that I've had.. The Tom yum shrimp soup was spicy but omg sooo good. Staff ultra friendly and nice. Wish I could leave 6 stars
Got takeout from Sea By Thai recently and had a great experience. Our group of 6 each ordered something different and everyone loved their dishes with one common exception- everyone wished their dish came with more veggies. Sea By Thai was very generous on the protein but not so much on the veggies listed on the menu. I ordered the Zaab noodle which was unique and delicious.
Every staff member on duty greeted me with a warm welcome as soon as I set foot in the door. Tom Ka Gai and Crispy Duck Basil were great. This place is fantastic!
Best Thai food in Richmond, I got the Pad Thai (adventurous I know) and it's the best I've had. Good portions and pricing too.
Good tasting food, but the noodles are always broken or fused into a goo. The kitchen needs to learn how to cook and handle noodles better for takeout.
Delicious food. Service was slow, but fortunately I wasn’t in a rush. I would definitely order here again.
Unique setting with simple furnishings. Food was authentic and good. Service was prompt.
Stopped by while out running errands. I got the pad Thai and it was very good. Service was good too. Vibe was very low key at lunch time on a Friday.
I restaurant ambiance was okay. I wanted to get steamed tofu to our surprise they just do fried tofu that they get pre-fried. The veg fried rice was luke warm and we couldn't enjoy it. 1 extra star for taste. Thwy dont have kids meals. I will not be back.
I was expecting a standard American Thai restaurant and this place blew my expectations out of the water. Each dish was packed with flavor, meat was tender, not one mistake in any dish we tried. The prices are very good for the portions. I highly recommend and will be coming back!
Fantastic quality dishes. Will absolutely be back
Best Iron Squid (Calamari) in ages, not cut in typical rounds and the added onions tossed in chili complement this dish second to none. The Pad Pik Pow & the Panang Curry were to die for, can't wait to get back into the area & revisit
We went out with family and friends. Food was good. We ordered volcano chicken, dunken noodles, shrimp soup was all good and tasty. It was little oily but was good. Lemonade and fruit punch was not good. The table were so sticky and even the knife was not clean as well. Cleaness wise not good. Food was good. Loved the volcano chicken with broccoli.
Recommended by a colleague - the interior is pretty lackluster, but the food is extremely good. Server was attentive and the food came out pretty fast.
Very disappointing. The atmosphere isn’t very inviting but that could have been overlooked had the food been good. But it wasn’t. The Pad Pak was flavorless and the Kee Mao Goong Gai was edible but not anything special. If this is rated as a good Thai restaurant in RVA maybe there aren’t any. Maybe they were having a bad night but I doubt I will ever go back to find out.
The food was delicious and the inside of the restaurant was adorable!
Restaurant looks closed. Just stopped by at 11 am. No lights. No people inside.
Purchased meal online through app. No update on time. Arrived at suggested time and was told it had been sitting out for over 10 minutes. Said they "tried to call me," but absolutely no evidence of this. Food was Luke warm when brought home and had to reheat. Small portion for the money spent. Flavors okay.
Our favorite Thai restaurant in Richmond. Seafood fried rice, Thai spicy is my go to
Loved this restaurant!
This is the best Thai I've ever eaten in my entire life. I've been to Thai restaurants of varying scale all over the nation, and nothing ever matches how delicious this place is. No matter what dish you get, it'll be exquisite. The Kapow? Delicious favorite! Drunken Noodles? Amazing classic! Pad Pik Pow? Explosion of flavors! And so much more. You absolutely cannot go wrong with whatever you get here. Not to mention that the service is super helpful and nice no matter when you go. My life was empty before I ate here and I willingly drive thirty minutes here whenever I can to get the perfect meal. Absolutely my favorite thing ever.
Great food! Try the usual Thai specialties. I love the Volcano Chicken.
Great food, great ambiance, great music, and the service was very calming. I felt so relaxed and calm while eating delicious food. It’s like all my worries and hunger were just being washed away.
Good quality and tasty Thai food in Richmond
Delish!
Food was great and reasonably priced but the pictures online more or less catfish you into thinking the inside is much more upscale. Great for takeout but the interior feels thrown together
good white rice.
cashews tasty.
coconut in sauce delectable.
CLOSED AND VACANT!
I’ve had lunch and dinner here quite a few times, so it’s obviously one of my favorite places. I love the Pla Filet Tod with the Chili Garlic Sauce. Their Chicken Pad Thai is another favorite. Their Tempura Shrimp is another fave. Most of all, I LOVE their Sticky Rice (with or without the mango)!!! I must also say that our favorite waitress is a girl who usually works on weekends whose nickname is Ed. She has such a sincere and welcoming way about her, she always gets our orders right, and she always gives great service! Smiles are contagious, and when she smiles, we smile!
Everything was fine until I paid and the waitress decided to take it upon herself to keep all my change. Not really happy with that so next time I will definitely use plastic
Food was excellent, drink was good, the seating situation was not cozy, will prefer a take out next time, margarita was excellent
Excellent Thai restaurant and a nice ambience. Loved the authentic Thai food, especially the green curry and the spicy eggplant with minced chicken. Highly recommended for Thai food lovers!
Absolutely amazing Thai food, and a nice atmosphere. The portions are massive and will have you leaviglng both full and with leftovers for later. All said, the price is right on point and you get a great bagmbg for your buck! This will be a staple to us when we move in to the area.
Amazing Thai food. Noodles were perfect. Great service. Would recommend.
Excellent service & Excellent Thai. I’ve enjoyed Thai food and multiple places but this was THE best Thai I’ve ever had .. 5 stars
They don't have much options in fried rice.
Previous review was done two years ago. I am changing my review to a five stars. Had lunch here with a friend in July. We both agreed that the food was delicious. The ambiance was trendy. I had Pork Kapow Thai hot, the dish was very tasty with just right amount of heat. It was midweek and after lunch hours, all tables were filled. I have to praise our waitress, she was the only wait staff. As busy as she was, she was very calm, still very attentive and didn’t make any mistakes. The only downside was we waited for a long time our food, but it was worth it. This is my favorite Thai restaurant in Short Pump area.

Stopped by for a take out order. The waiter was very knowledgeable and gave me his recommendations. The Crispy Duck was $16 but portion was small. No bones and fat, but didn’t have enough flavor. I still prefer the Crispy Duck from Pad Thai in Mechanicsville. The clear noodle dish (粉丝) with prawns was really good. Overall, food was decent, but kind of expensive. I probably would enjoyed more and gave a five star if we ate at the restaurant.
The best drunken noodles I have ever had! Fresh not greasy and full of flavor!
My go to spot!! Their seafood fried rice is my favorite meal ever. Plus the staff is always so sweet and welcoming.
Excellent food and service! I've been here a number of times and ordered a variety of dishes and all have been very good. I lived in Thailand for a number of years, so I have high standards for Thai places and this one passes my test for what that's worth.
Best Thai food in short pump area. Ordered many times. food was tasty, good quality and packed well.
Fire red curry had nice flavor. Curry puff was very thick (heavy on pastry that seemed overcooked) but light on filling. It was served in a deep square bowl without a small plate so it was very difficult to eat. Hard to get staff attention to request a plate or water refill. I would have left after the appetizer (took about 30 minutes to get my entree which was ordered at the same time as the appetizer) but couldn't find staff to cancel the order. And soft drink not free refill (that is just standard at any restaurant now so that was disappointing. I am sure more staff would help but overall other things added up to mediocre experience at best.
I should have taken a photo so you could see but, the portion size was generous. Thank you! I ordered Pad Kee Mao (tofu/veggie). The spice was great! My only complaint is about the noodles. They were mushy. Way too soft. It took away from the texture of the meal. Otherwise the combination of vegetables, flavor, and portion were as you would expect from Drunken Noodle.
Sea By Thai appears clean from the outside and in. The service is relatively quick.
Food: Good portion sizes and taste fresh. The Shrimp Fried Dumplings are the best I've had! The atmosphere is nice but a little boring. I would suggest adding music to compliment your food.
The price is fair and competitive compared to similar restaurants.
I really enjoyed my first fine there recently. The portion was smaller than I hoped but I had a really interesting take on calamari with spices. Btw the drunken noodles are right above the drunken spaghetti noodles of you are confused as I was.
Took 2.5 hrs for order to be delivered. Their was no way to contact the restaurant. The phone either had a busy signal or gave an error that the call couldn't be connected.
Great service. Everything was full of wonderful flavors, perfectly seasoned. Give this place a try. It's very good!!
we got the seafood fried rice, thai ice tea and the pad thai. the food is good, the drinks are also good and the food is delicious. beautiful unique ambiance inside but short staffed pre covid. easy to find parking and find the place, might need reservation due to covid regulations. i would recommend this place!
Good food. Good view.
Very good restaurant in a good location, friendly service, and of course very good food. Portions are certainly more than enough but not super overwhelming and everything taste fresh. My appetizer and entree were steaming hot and delicious! Prices are good too in the typical range. Would recommend!
Best Thai I’ve ever had!!!!!
Always fresh and delicious! Always friendly and welcoming!
Best Thai Food in Glen Allen Area... Cricket post-games go crazy here...
February 13, 2021. My boyfriend and I’s first time eating here. Loved it. I got the shrimp wonton and iron squid (spicy calamari) he got the spicy chicken, bell peppers and rice entree. We loved it all. Not that cheap chinese chicken taste/feel. Moderate pricing for its taste and value. Left out full, not stuffed and very satisfied.
Great service and wonderful food
Visited this restaurant on Saturday for lunch.. we ordered recommended dishes from the reviews like Shrimp momos, Volcano chicken and Tom ka Gai soup for starters.. soup was a let down.. we really liked Volcano chicken.. We have ordered Ginger perfect and Pad Thai for main course.. Ginger perfect was good.. but Pad Thai didn’t impress us..
Overall food was good.. but I’m giving low rating for the cleanliness.. our table was very sticky.. menu’s, water glasses were sticking to the table.. in this covid times it’s important to clean after every guests.. I wish they improve that going forward
Curry was to die for. So creamy! Shrimp tempura was also amazing. Cannot recommend this spot enough. Peanut sauce was absolutely killer, super creamy. CREAMY!!
Great food and service is decent. If you like spicy food, you must try their Special Eggplant with Shrimp and Minced Chicken. Delicious!
Amazing atmosphere and AWESOME food!
Hands down the BEST Thai food in the Richmond & Greater Richmond area. The flavors are excellent and nothing is sopping in oil like you might find elsewhere. I eat meat and tofu, and their tofu is the best I’ve had at any restaurant. I’ve been here with dozens of friends and only gotten rave reviews. I used to work near by and would frequent their restaurant once a week. I recently went back for a visit and forgot how delicious everything was! The service is always kind and accommodating—the owners are super sweet. The restaurant has a fun, modern underwater vibe. Definitely worth checking out if you haven’t been!!
Delicious and so friendly
This is the best restaurant in Richmond far. Service, décor and especially the food is great !! Best food and best service in the Richmond Virginia area.
Great food highly recommend
I recommend the volcano chicken it’s the best!!!
The food was really good! The volcano chicken is a must. Nice portion sizes as well.
Perfect for vegeterians!! We soo love the creamy Thai curry. We have tried a lot of places but the creaminess of the curry here is out of the world.
