Straightforward cafe offering Thai & other Asian comfort foods such as wontons & tempura.
We used to go to Thai Rod Dee in Layton quite a bit, then it shut down for a while and we assumed (I read it somewhere) that is was under new ownership. We went tonight and they are actually not under new ownership, they were closed for a few months for renovations!! Everything is still the same!
We ordered:
Spring rolls:9/10 they were delicious and the peanut sauce was amazing
Sweet and Sour chicken(mild heat): 9/10 fresh, veggies and the portion was large!
Thai Basil with chicken(extra heat) 10/10, super spicy in the best way, also large portion and the veggies were cooked to perfection
Red Curry with chicken (extra spicy) 11/10 SO good, I have tried other curry'sand this one is always superior.
All meals came with jasmine rice and are large enough for a second meal!
The service was amazing and so friendly, there were a lot of to-go orders so they were really able to focus on us and a few other people in the building.
Definitely will keep this restaurant in our regular rotation again 🤤
Not everyday you taste the best meal of your life- well, you can here. It's the best Thai food I've ever tasted and I've tried a lot of Thai places. Prices are $14- $20 per plate, so a bit pricier but it's worth it, and they do give pretty generous portions. The Pad Thai and the Panang curry are my favorites. As well as the Beef Pho- I swear it has healing powers. I had a cold and felt so much better after eating the soup. I didn't give 5 stars because the place could use a bit of an update and they could benefit greatly having more employee help in the lobby. It seems like the owner is the only employee out there, she's awesome but they are busy and she needs help. :) If you liked my review or found it helpful please give me a thumbs up. 👍 thanks!
My second time here. First time was dine in, and this time I ordered takeout. This is good Thai food! The service is fast and friendly. I've had their noodles and their curry and have been pleased by both! The portion size is great too.
The restaurant has a great vibe. More of an old-school Asian restaurant. The staff definitely care about the quality of your experience and it shows.
This has become my go-to for Thai food in southern Davis County!
Lunch at Thai Rod Dee in Layton. I can’t get past how much it needs cleaning, organizing and an update. It’s very dated and tired looking.
The food was good but not amazing. I got the fresh spring rolls and they were fresh. Not a fan of the thick peanut sauce.
My chicken basil was good and the rice was too. My friend got the pineapple curry and liked it. It’s on the lunch menu and it was about $13 with tax.
I do love the bright color and freshness overall.
Service was ok. I know a lot of people love this place but it’s not enough to make me want to go back.
My wife loves Thai food. We found this place which isn't the nicest looking but the food is amazing. She loves the Massaman curry. I got the sweet and sour chicken stir fry. Both really good. The cream cheese wontons are so so good. My wife likes the egg rolls. I'm just not a fan of egg rolls in general but she said they were great. Give it a shot.
Way over priced for what you get. Very little meat. This place WAS the best. Now it’s overpriced vegetables with very little meat.
My go-to place in Davis County for Thai food. Can’t go wrong with any of their curries. Their spring rolls and fried rice are also killer!
Had a fantastic meal at Thai Rod Dee! The waitress was friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious authentic flavors and perfectly cooked dishes. Highly recommend!
Their coconut soup was the best I've had. So good! 😌
Some of the best Pad Thai I've ever had!
Best Massaman I have ever had!
The food is really good same with service, the worker's were really nice and overall amazing.
We eat here every week! Incredible food. Friendly, kind staff! Try the red curry or the massaman curry = outstanding!
ขอบคุณนะคะอาหารอร่อย พี่คนไทยผมสัันต้อนรับเราน่ารัก อัธยาศัยดีมากค่ะ 👍จากมิวนิคค่ะ🇩🇪
Great yellow curry. I got mine medium spice with extra rice. Will absolutely be back. Really fresh food.
Killer Pad Thai
The food was fresh & delicious... My mouth is actually watering as I write this! Very very good!!!
One of my favorite Thai restaurants ever. I especially love the massaman curry!
Fabulous Phad Thai! I have had Phad Thai at a minimum of thirty Thai restaurants and this was one of the best if not THE best. Highly recommend and we will be back!
Avocado curry was great & veg chicken special was ok
I ordered the pumpkin curry with chicken last night to go. Loved it last night. Heated up the rest of it today and am both ecstatic at how yummy it was and bereft, because now it’s gone and I can’t eat it anymore. It was delicious and even better the second day. Highly recommend.

Not for me. My Pad Thai noodles were overcooked/mushy and so was the wrapper on my spring rolls. Pineapple fried rice was also mushy and very very few teeny pieces of pineapple. Also very bland flavor. We threw out the Pad Thai and fried rice. Yellow curry was ok. Pad kee mao was good. Not very friendly. No smile upon arrival and no Thank you upon departure. Will not be back and do not recommend.
From the moment we walked in, the smells should have convinced us to turn around. My wife typically orders Pad Thai at Thai restaurants. Here it was not edible. The noodles were pink (not sure if that is a sign of authenticity or not) and the chicken had on “off” flavor. Our daughter in law ordered the same - and neither one ate more than a couple bites. The red curry was just ok.
The service was slow. For a prime dining time on Saturday night, they needed more than one waitress. Won’t ever be going back to this place!
Great flavor, portion sizes are excellent, love the amount of vegetables in the curries.

Some of the best thia food I've had.
Don’t let the exterior fool you. I missed out on this gem for years because it looks a little run down. Food here is amazing. They do a great job spicing it correctly, and it’s very flavorful. The people working there are very nice as well. Definitely my new go to Thai restaurant
The place is small, which makes it cozy, but they had only one person seating customers, waitressing, and serving. This made it hard to get their attention for drink refills, as they were always rushing to the next customer or grabbing a food order. Despite this, the food is delicious.
Ok, I doordashed from this place,
But I had to come to Google too and leave a review.
I ordered the Massaman Curry and a Thai tea and it was delicious!
The portion was very generous.
I've lived in FL, IN, TN and now UT.
Many times I'd feel like the portion and quality wasn't worth the money, but, Not with Rod Dee's.
I'm very satisfied with my first time and look forward to trying other items on their menu,
But, I vouche for that massaman curry. It was fire!
What a find! Came here on the suggestion of some friends from the area and will definitely be coming back. We enjoyed the Pineapple Curry, but we were floored by the Pad Me Korat. I've never had Pad Me Korat and I've never seen it at another Thai restaurant. If you go to Thai Rod Dee (you definitely should) do yourself a favor and get the Pad Me Korat-- it's like a more flavorful Pad Thai.
The folks running the joint are super nice and friendly, very attentive.
So glad we found this place, we will be back!
We love this place! It’s our family go to. We love the pineapple curry and the pad Thai. So so good.
We generally get takeout because our grandchildren are little. Orange chicken, Green Curry, chicken fried rice, dumplings, ALL delicious!
I had the Pad Thai with shrimp and my friend had Mango Curry. We have gone there a few times before and have always enjoyed the food and have had great service. The curries are all gluten free as is the Pad Thai. Our server said they could also make a few of the other dishes gluten free.

This is definitely a tasty Thai treat in Layton. The massaman and pineapple curries were delicious. The spring rolls were super hot and fresh! The service was also kind and very understanding of our three small children.
They have a lunch special between 12-3, Monday-Friday.
Thai Rod Dee is a woman owned business and it is the most excellent thai food! I love the noodles and my companion got the curry.
Don't be off put by the outside appearance, this place is GREAT! I stopped by on a work trip after reading a few fantastic reviews and I'm so glad I did. Not only is the food presentation beautiful, each dish is so flavorful I was in food heaven. Pineapple curry was SO GOOD. The spring rolls were on point, and the mango sticky rice is a must! The service was just right and they were so friendly. A great choice if you ask me.

I've tried 3 different Thai restaurants in the area in the last month. Thai rid Dee definitely leads with the best food! You could taste the rich flavor variety of Thai cuisine in every dish. We got pineapple rice and chicken Thai basil. We also got mango sticky rice for dessert. Legit!!!!
My husband and I frequent this restaurant and once a month. The owner is always there herself and the food is great. It's a small place, nice to relax.
I ordered the Tom Yum soup. I specified Shrimp instead of Chicken, and they gave me just shrimp and broth…. I paid $20 for Shrimp and water. I called and was told that in the future I should call ahead to be more clear about modified orders. Must be the least authentic Thai place to sell Tom Yum this way. It’s is litterally defined as a hot and sour soup with tomatoes, mushrooms, lemongrass, and Shrimp. No galangal either!! Would not recommend 👎
Green curry always hits the spot. Nommm
A nice, cozy restaurant that's perfect for dinner with friends
The food was blah! I had high hopes based on the recommendations of friends and family but I was unimpressed. Prices were high so I expected more. I was sadly disappointed.
the food was delicious. I tried red curry chicken, basil Thai, yellow curry pork, shrimp spring rolls and stir fry noodles. All were amazingly good. I'll go back.
Great food but getting a little pricey at $17 for pad Thai on a Saturday. They also need to fix the crater in their parking lot!
Good was very good!
Great Thai food. Older building but always worth going. I like the Pork Pad Thai.
I have driven past here wondering if it was open as the outside is dated and the front windows are not part of the seating area so no lights. I stopped in for lunch. They do offer lunch specials with chicken. They were able to swap out the chicken for tofu. I had the pineapple curry that came with rice and an egg roll. The curry and rice were great. Bell peppers warm and crunchy. The egg roll was super oily so i did not eat all of it. It comes with a nice sauce. I did order spring rolls and they are good, lots of lettuce and the peanut shipping sauce is good. Could use some hot sauce or chili oil. You need to ask for that. I will definitely go back. Good price and nice serving size.
SooooGoooood!!!! Our favorite hole in the wall, with big flavors and portions ☆☆☆☆☆ love to eat in, cozy seating areas and attentive but not bothersome staff. Great take away, always gets our orders right, vegetarian friendly! Really adore the people that run this place. 10/10 soy delicious!!!
The food was delicious! Generous portions and beautifully plated. The restaurant itself is a bit dated, but has a certain charm.
Interesting name. Food is very good. Well flavored and so tasty. Service was good. This is an older establishment that lacks refinement. We will return because the food is sooo good.
The service was good, and the food was fair, but it was far overshadowed by cost and lack of cleanliness. The price was of the charts. I've had way better Thai close by for half the price. The place was also pretty run down and the bathroom was a wreck, totally nasty. Overall not a great experience. Will not be going back. The second start is for the waitress who was super nice.
Don’t let the old building scare you off. The food was fresh and delicious and the service was friendly and fast. We had the pork pot stickers, cashew chicken and chicken pad Thai. Everything was hot and wonderful. Will be back!
Mind-blowing Thai food. I got the Pad Thai and my husband got the Pineapple Curry. Both dishes were exquisite. We will definitely be back.
Its one of the only places to get a decent bowl of Kao Soi. Owners and staff are wonderful and always take great care of our family.
Tried it once, via pickup. Honestly wasn't a fan of the food, especially for the price. I would've just not come back, but I just noticed via the online ordering app notice that they also charged me for a bigger tip than I gave... Certainly not worth flighting, but illegal :/
I tried this place 5 years ago when I moved into town. I always get curry at Thai restaurants but the curry is sweet. If you go for curry get mango or pineapple that are supposed to be sweet. The rest of the the items are really good conditionally. This restaurant is 10/10 or 4/10 depending on the cook. I tried it a few days during the week after having a great experience then I was really disappointed. The recipes are great I think, it's just who is cooking the food. Update: after the response from the company, the recipes are great, it's just who is cooking the food. One day great meat in your food, next day meat that is so overcooked that you can't even eat more than a few bites. Honestly after my really good experience I wanted to go back and try each item because they look amazing and if cooked right I'm sure they would all be awesome. Update 7/10/2023, the price of food has changed, 18 dollars for rice and curry for one person is ridiculous (pre tip). I like to support family run businesses but I'm not rich enough to eat here anymore besides the lunch special which is still pretty expensive and less than half the regular amount so you'll still be hungry. I'll be making my own curry for my family of 5 for less than the one order from now on. Full lunch special is in the picture and not even a full bowl of food
Great food and fantastic service!
I do not see why this place thinks this takeout meal should cost over $70... they charge more per dish than Sawadee, a nice atmosphere on prime real estate, downtown (south temple) with far better flavors. Fusion 99 in Layton with similar yummy flavors and atmosphere also charges less for much better food and experience. This restaurant is dirty and looks like it is falling apart with subpar flavors.
The fresh spring rolls cost nearly $6 a piece and are all veggie and filled with rice noodles. Other restaurants charge less and at least have shrimp in the filling...
Our upcharge for beef literally shouldn't be 1$ per slice of meat... no noodle dish containing maybe 5 pieces of meat should cost over $20...do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. This place is a joke! I am 100% fine paying higher prices for a nicer restaurant, this is absolutely not that! You can buy seasoning pastes and sauces for a few bucks, this is what it tasted like. Oh, and if all that isn't enough, don't plan to pay with a credit card unless you want to pay ADDITIONAL FEES for doing so. Yes, that's correct, they pass the credit card fees onto the customer to pay. 🙄
Don't let the decor scare you, this is some of the best Thai food I have tasted. I highly recommend the curries.
Delicious!!! Sunday was easy to get in and everything was hot and yummy. I will definitely be back.
Good was great!
My wife loves Thai food. We found this place which isn't the nicest looking but the food is amazing. She loves the Massaman curry. I got the sweet and sour chicken stir fry. Both really good. Very delicious food. The proportions are decent, the price is worth the taste.
Great food. I have to come here with the fam at least once a month!
Fantastic pad Thai!!!
While the parking lot can use a lot of repairs, the restaurant is excellent. I've been there once and the food was excellent. The service was good too. I recommend the pumpkin curry, phad Thai, and Thai basil. I will definitely return.
Excellent, exceeded or expectations. We will be back!
We ordered food to go. The staff were friendly and gave us updates as we waited for the order. We ordered a variety of Currys, pad thai, drunken noodles, cream cheese wontons, fried rice... it was all very good. Good taste, some had a touch of spicy but most of the food we ordered wasn't spicy. All delicious!
Great food, friendly staff! Not the most comfortable and dining rooms could definitely use an update.
Being a vegetarian, I tried fried rice here and it was really good along with fried tofu
It's okay but crazy $3.00 for an extra bowl of rice that costs $0.25 at most to make and should be free or at least not more than $1.00 addl. They also charge an extra 3% if you use a Credit Card.
The Thai restaurant just off the I-15 Freeway in Ogden, 12th Street exit is better, called Aroy-D, and is still the best in the area.
Really good food. I will say I'm getting tired of the fees being charged back to the patron when using credit/debit cards. I'm sure it's becoming the norm but it gets old. Don't mean to rant here. The food and service was very good!
Delicious food and great service!
I love this place. Order anything and everything. You really can’t go wrong. Food is amazing. Best Thai restaurant in Utah.
I've always loved their green curry. They put more vegetables in their curry than other places, which has included Thai eggplant although last time mine didn't have any. My other go-to is drunken stir-fry, which is almost always great.
Food and service were great!
Amazing undercover Thai spot in Ogden, top quality food at a good price. Definitely a find on a road trip.
UPDATE:2/11/2023
Brought a homesick Thai exchange student here. She left very happy. Authentic as it gets for Utah, very tasty.
The building and neighborhood are a little rough, but don't let that scare you away. The food was excellent!
This place has one of the best drunken noodles i have tasted in awhile
Its ok and dated. Several food choices but didn't hit the spot I was hoping. The service was slow and one at a time, never asked about drinks so we got only water, and generally not impressed.
Pad thai is very good, really nice staff
We got the sampler, and we got yellow curry and green curry. Both were fantastic! And the spice tray they supply is wonderful, so I can make each bite as spicy as I like it. I recommend
I'm never one to complain or leave bad reviews, but this restaurant has definitely earned it. I was really hopeful with all the good reviews, but this was an absolutely terrible experience. After receiving our food, we absolutely did not like it. We took one bite each then just sat there waiting to be checked on so we could see about getting something else. We waited 30+ minutes with the sever not even glancing in our direction. When we finally got her attention we were as kind as possible in letting her know we just didn't like our food. In reality we almost spit our out because it honestly had the taste of wet dog or sweaty socks. The response we got was "Well everyone else loves it and we can't resell it so you still have to pay for it". We didn't ask for any compensation and none was proactively offered before she said this. After that statement we asked to at least have a discount since we didn't even eat it and she offered 10% off. So we paid $40+ to leave the restaurant still starving and feeling completely ripped off. I'm in shock that the service was as bad as the food.
If you're never going to make the food door-door dash remove yourself from DoorDash.
I watched you sit people take their order make their food serve them before I even got the order that I came to pick up.
Their pad Thai was incredible. I even tried the tofu which I'm normally not a huge fan of, but they cook it and slice it thin enough that it was delicious! So good! Only downside is they don't have a kids meal besides fries for $6, which is kind of a joke. Nice workers too.
We ordered out two different soups. Yen Ta Fo and Beef Pho. We get home to find that there is one thing of broth to mix with the vegetables and noodles. I am not quite sure what happened here but it’s not correct. We should have received two separate broths. One chicken (Yen Ta Fo) and one beef (Beef Pho). Called and they said that the Beef broth is there sitting on the counter and it didn’t get put in the bag like it should have. They said we can go back and get it, but the drive is not worth it. It’s important to get peoples orders right the first time, especially when they do a pick up order. I know they won’t make that mistake again with us because they won’t have the opportunity again.
I want my money back. Nothing more frustrating then getting home with half your food missing. I was also expecting my pho to come with some sort of bowl, not in a box. I spent a lot of money. Won’t go back.
Nice clean place. Plenty of seating available.
Curries are delish!
Used to love it here been coming since 2015, was my all time favorite for curry. But, that was pre 2020. As I started coming back in 2021 it was a bit different but, now I don't recognize favorite dishes. Will be looking for better options.
Thai Basil very good, red curry too sweet, locals preference. Asked and the they made it so and much hotter, loved it!
Great Lil Thai spot!
I love this place. It's one of my favorites. Family owned, clean, great service and authentic.
I gave it more stars with prior owners. The food we normally get seems watered down and not near as tasty. The atmosphere is not great, but that didn’t bother me before when the food was great.
The pineapple curry was SO SO good!! Everything we had was delicious!!
I read the many positive reviews and my husband and I decided to give this restaurant a try. I was curious about a previous comment saying the curry was sweet, so I asked the waitress whether all the curries were sweet or if it was just a particular type. She told me they were all sweet and brought me a sample of the Red curry to try. It was far too sweet for my liking. She said they’ve tried to reduce the amount of sugar to make the curries more authentic, but their customers complain so they’ve gone back to making them sweet. I passed on the curry and ordered a papaya salad and the Thai noodle soup- I was surprised and disappointed that both had quite a bit of sugar in them too. My husband ordered the Pad See Ew and it was very good and wasn’t sweet at all. The waitress was very nice and the service was good, but unfortunately, we won’t be going back due to the amount of sugar they add to to their food. That’s our preference, but don’t let it deter you if you like a sweeter curry. They seem to have a good customer base and had many people coming in for carry out.
The outside of the restaurant looks pretty run-down but the food is very high quality and generous portion sizes.
They forgot to give us the lunch special menu and we had to go ask them. And she told us "only curry"😂 Even though there were other options on that menu. When we older food, didn't ask us meat option and just gave us chicken straight. Never served us water until we asked. Didn't even answer us and walked away. Curry was watery like a soup. They posted they have boba at the front door and it was lie! No boba today.... And price was same with and without boba. Pad thai tasted like a ketchup. Very saucy. We were the only customer here and never grabbed our payment eitehr. This place sucks.
2nd place that make larb the wY I love it great fab
So so good! The mango curry was delicious and the mango sticky rice was amazing. Their drunken noodles are so good!
I've had both the yellow and massaman curries and they are both crazy good. I can't wait to try more.
Best Thai Food around. Old Architecture of the building is so beautiful as well.
Food was great! I had the Pad Thai and my husband had the Thai basil stir fry but with fried chicken instead. The smiling woman serving us was pleasant and efficient. She brought to-go boxes and our bill without having to ask. Great experience.
No point in raising prices if you're going to give smaller portions. Last visit my food was probably half the usual portion as normal, This Was my favorite thai food place. Now I wont be returning.
went with my sister and we both loved the thai tea. amazing service and the atmosphere there is really nice and chill !
Best Thai food ever!!! I recommend the Thai tea it is sooooo goodddd !!!
Tasty
Best food around, nice people! One of my favorite places
Wonderful food and quiet, calm atmosphere. My new favorite!
Delicious Thai food. My favorite is the yellow curry but the pad see ew is great as well!
Very good Thai food and great service!!
Food was incredible. Service was surprisingly fast. Parking is a little difficult, and the bathrooms were gross. But for reals, just use the restroom before you go, and go hungry. Pineapple curry may have been the best I've ever eaten -- and I've tried it at a LOT of places.
Update: under new management, and you can tell. The food portions were smaller, and not near as good. Also had a gift card from December, but they claimed new management and refused to honor the gift card.
Super busy, waitress didn’t even offer to refill our $4.00 drink. Food was sub par. Glad we tried it though, now we know it’s not our favorite.
Great Thai food! There are so many great items on the menu that it's hard to make recommendations. Here is an idea though, get the coconut soup and have them bring out as many small bowls as there are people in your party. Divide it up and have that as your appetizer. It will change your world.
welcome back to business guys
food are great
servers are excellent
met the owner, P Daw, she was great and energetic
will be back soon
Best Thai food in the area and the food is so good
Not as good as last time and got the same thing. Little chicken side thing with lunch special was so yummy and service is so so so kind.
Incredible food that never disappoints. Spec love the chicken green curry and the khao soy. Haven't had a bad experience in the multiple times I've been.
This is my absolute best place to go for Thai in the Layton Davis County area they are 100% authentic meaning they are from Thailand more so they are from Pattaya and Tony and his wife and his family and employees are always a joy to do business with I love coming back here always feel like I’m treated like family thank you Tony thank you for the great food the sticky rice is just like mom used to make and FYI papaya salads are only available on the weekend if that’s your jam keep that in mind other than that I would advise getting the beef waterfall a.k.a. Nam Tok as that is my favorite dish of all time also the pork laab is a can’t miss. Take it from me I mothers Thai and it just taste like her home cooking the best you won’t be disappointed five stars stop by help support this local restaurant!
This is our go to for delicious Thai food. I can't get enough of their Currys and springs rolls with peanut sauce. Highly recommend!!!
Amazing food. The look of the building may give you pause, but it’s seriously delicious food and fresh too
So amazing! One of our favorites!
The red curry was fantastic. If you want it really spicy, ask for "Thai spicy."
Oh my gosh this place is amazing it tastes so good and yes do it buy food here!!!!
Great food, and great service. A touch pricey for the portion size, but it was yummy!
Best curry in Utah
Pretty good. Flavor is great. We tried the Massaman and Yellow Curries. They were a bit too runny for my taste. Portion sizes too small for the price. Really lame they charge extra for extra rice. What does that cost them, like 5¢?
I just love the food so much ☺️👍. I come here at least twice a month.
Decent food, but for the price you pay there is not enough meat or vegetables and there isn’t enough rice for leftovers. They also never pick up their phone!
I love this place and have for a while, by far the best Thai I have had in the state! The owners, and staff are all amazing and friendly, they remember my order and it always comes out tasting fresh hot and delicious!
This is only our second time here at this Thai restaurant. Our son-in-law took us here before and one time when we tried to come back they were closed for some reason. Anyway, great Thai food selection and what we chose was delicious. Will definitely come back again again
The Curry is so good! Thai basil chicken is also wonderful!
Oh my gosh! This was simply awesome! There was a bit of a wait but was well worth it. There was just 1 lady running around like crazy trying to do everything
The food is super delicious! The building they are in is very run down. I feel like them refinishing their building and space would go a long way but judging food alone get 5 stars. My favorite is the mixed vegetables with chicken.. it’s become my very favorite food. So yummy!
