The lamb chops come burnt and small and they charge 25 dollar for them. The rice is tasteless , small, and it’s a disgrace. The food takes forever to come and it’s expensive for what you get. There is no parking and you need to find street parking.
Overall, I do not recommend.

Diner Review №2

Too spicy! I ordered pod thai, one with chicken and one with shrimps, papaya salad, basil rice, and garlic naan. Garlic naan was very good, soft, puffy and yummy! Everything else was unfortunately too spicy for us to eat, even after I indicated I want it mild. The flavors were good, but it was a miss for me. (We actually had to boil some pasta because we just couldn’t eat what we ordered)
So if you like spicy - great, but if not - just be cautious.
The staff/owners are super nice and friendly.

Diner Review №3

Service is quick and friendly, and the food is delicious. We visited Basil Indian & Thai a few times and always had a great experience. This is more of a family vibe restaurant, not so much a date place in my opinion. The restaurant offers plenty of vegetarian options.
I, however, always go for their meat dishes. They can adjust spice level for most of them if you are like me and can't handle extreme heat.
The menu is huge. It's often hard to choose, but the waitress is very friendly, and all of her recommendations were always spot on.
The portions are very generous, keep this in mind when ordering. We usually order a few things to share.
Highly recommend this little gem.

Diner Review №4

Update: Still awesome, big flavors throughout no doubt. However the desserts can use a little work and it’s a little cold inside when it’s freezing outside. Hope they correct things as I’m rooting for them

A much needed addition to the island. Finally medium spicy means exactly that. The cauliflower
is the only thing I wouldn’t order again. Maybe I’m just not a fan of this style. I’d also get different Biryani than goat. Chicken 65 was a big hit with the group. Pad Thai was fantastic, better than the Kee Mao from a previous visit. Indian curries were spot on. Would have loved to see Chettinad or similar but this was very solid. Much closer to manhattan indian

Diner Review №8

I love it here!! Their chicken tikka masla is incredible and the service is always great. 10/10 recommend!!

Diner Review №9

Really wanted to like this restaurant. I love indian food and it's hard to find on staten island. I ordered lamb butter masala, chicken korma, malai kofta and garlic nan. The gravy was watery on all entree's and lacked flavor. The lamb was tough and chewy. Nan had very little seasoning and was dry. If you order from this restaurant call to place the order because it's more expensive if you order from their website. Food was well packaged and it was a nice size portion. Staff who picked up the phone was friendly and placing order was easy.

Diner Review №10

I ordered on New Year’s Eve expecting fresh food. I received yoghurt that was lumpy and smelled like rotten meat. I poured it over everything and my entire order is now inedible. The restaurant did not care when I reported this issue.

Diner Review №11

Came here for dinner and this place did not disappoint. Everything is made fresh to order. Presentation was great. Was glad to enjoy both Thai and Indian cuisine as I enjoy both very much. Would definitely come back to try out more on the menu.

Street parking on street around the street as there’s no parking on Hylan Blvd

Diner Review №12

It’s a nice cozy little spot for Indian food.

Portions are bigger than Taste of India and they also have more options to pick from here.

It gets super busy at times and food can take a while to be ready (sometimes over an hour), but they always give you a heads up before you order so I really appreciate the staff for that.

Diner Review №13

Honestly the best food I’ve had on Staten Island! Their chili chicken and chicken tikka masala was amazing! Must try

Diner Review №14

Amazing food

Diner Review №15

This place is a hidden gem. Food are great both Thai and Indian. Alot of ingredient and veggie. Food is not too salty except for the Tom Yum soup. It would be great if the soup with less salt or fish sauce. Overall it is a great placenfor seeking Thai and Indian dishes. I would definitely come back for different dishes.

Diner Review №16

My wife and I frequently order takeout from Basil Indian and Thai. However this past weekend we needed a last minute caterer for a party of around 40 people in our home and thought about reaching out to Basil. The staff at Basil were courteous, welcoming and professional. They worked with us to accommodate our request, with reasonable pricing, and I must say that my wife, myself and our guests were blown away with the quality of the food. We ordered a mix of the Indian and Thai menu, and were very satisfied with how it came together. We did opt in to pick up the food ourselves, and while we were inside the restaurant we noticed lovely indoor decor with a blue theme. It looks like a nice place to dine in as well. I would recommend Basil to anyone who is interested in trying their unique menu! For those who observe halal, all items are halal per our conversation with the staff.

Stopped by Basil Indian & Thai Cuisine because we were craving Indian food and this place did not disappoint! First time in but comparing to other Indian restaurants in Staten Island, this place impressed us. The appetizer chili chicken was a 9/10 on 🌶️🌶️, it was a little bit too spicy for me but the flavor was tasty! I got my go to- chicken tikka masala and I would rate it a solid 9/10, delicious. My fiancé got the chicken tariwala and he enjoyed his meal. I would definitely return, try it for yourself!

Delicious food out here on the island !! Got a mixture of Indian and Thai food they offered. The food was delicious, huge portions and a decent price! I really enjoyed my meal. The restaurant is super nice and clean. Great food, great service !! 100% recommend.

One of the nicest restaurants I have been to on staten island. The Indian food is extremely tasty. I can't recommend it enough. I have also tried the Thai food they offer it's also good.

Best authentic Indian food I’ve had in Staten Island. I had aloo Gobi matar - it came with basmati rice and it was enough t’for some left overs after having it it’s the garlic naan! Fresh and perfectly seasoned! It’s a vegan dish and if you’re a carnivore you won’t mis the meat! We ordered Thai green curry - also very delicious and authentic Thai flavor also freshly prepared! It’s a small place but we got a table right away. Staff very pleasant!

Diner Review №45

Nice little place that serves Thai and Indian cuisine. Both options are very good and the service was excellent in spite of it being a busy night. Prices were quite reasonable. Can be a bit noisy especially if there is a large party that comes in. Parking can be a bit tough. Highly recommended

I wanted to like this place I really did. I did Ubereats, so I'm not sure if that played a hand in what we got. But, I ordered Chicken Vindaloo and Lamb Butter Masala. Meat in both dishes was extremely fatty and chewy, like low grade and sauces had flavor but were extremely oily, I know Indian food can be oily but this was swimming. Rice was even bland, no aromatic smell that basmati normally has. Garlic Naan not too flavorful or buttery. I'm not sure if this place is trying to cater to American clients who don't know Indian cuisine, I'm American and we know. So maybe they keep things this way hoping to appease customers, or perhaps the whole Thai/Indian thing is giving them an identity crisis. But this is a one and done for me. Also there is absolutely no parking here, so that is why we have never come in. Passed at least twice in the car but no parking, so ordered Ubereats because there is simply no where to park and wanted to try. Maybe they could work out some arrangement with the deli next door for spots? Perhaps if they work on these things it will be much improved. I hope it does, because it would be good to have another good place on the Island like this has the potential to be.

Diner Review №49

Staten Island has needed a great Thai restaurant for a long time. Basil is that, and so much more, offering outstanding Thai and Indian dishes, as well as many vegan and gluten free options.

Since discovering Basil we have been ordering take-out once a week. However, the eat-in restaurant is cozy and beautiful with authentic art and furnishings, and we enjoy dining in as well.

Simply put, the food is outstanding. Everything is delicious and prepared with quality ingredients. They will tailor the dishes to taste and accommodate for food allergies etc… My favorite is Pad Thai, and theirs is truly delicious. However, everything my wife and I have ordered, whether Thai or Indian has been wonderful.

The service in the restaurant is friendly and attentive. Food is prepared quickly, and the staff give just enough attention (not too much, not too little) when waiting on the table.

I highly recommend Basil to anyone that loves Thai, Indian, Vegan and/or Gluten Free. You won’t be disappointed!

Diner Review №50

Very good Indian & Thai dishes. Pad Thai was amazing, cauliflower was very good. Everything we tried was great! Very recommended.

Diner Review №51

The best Indian food Ive had outside of India (and Im Indian!) Authentic, delicious, no compromises on flavor or ingredients, just like its made back home. Also a huge fan of Thai food and everything we had was delicious.
My friend had been there like 4 times already so im excited I got to try what shes been raving about.

We had papdi chat app, goat biryani, chicken massaman curry, and shrimp pad thai.
Friends' mango lassis got gr8 reviews. I had the leechi basil seed drink and it was divine.
Parking is a bit tricky in this are but absolutely worth the find.
My new fav for Indian and Thai on the island, give em a try.

We went for a late lunch. We ordered Thai chicken red curry that was served with sticky rice, butter chicken served with basmati rice and paratha. We also took some take out, goat biryani and naan. The food is very delicious. The best Thai and Indian food I had in a long time. Also, I ordered a mango lassi. The staff is very friendly and helpful to cater to the customer’s dining experience.

Diner Review №57

Is this called goat curry?
70 % oil in that!!
I throw it in the trash bin as I don’t want to get sick! I will never order here in the future.

Diner Review №58

Love Indian cuisine and adding Thai options - how can one resist? Had a great experience. Veggie Spring Rolls (not pictured), lamb and goal vindaloo, garlic naan, lamb biryani, mango lassi, and passion fruit sodas. So good and had to pack the leftover.

If you are looking for flavorful and great portion food this is where to go. A friend introduced me to this restaurant and I introduced it to my husband. He was instantly hooked as was I. The service is fantastic and the prices are great. Their goat briyani is my husband's favorite and the chili paneer extra crispy is mine. Try it you can thank me later :)

Diner Review №72

This is a good place to go for people who want to try Indian food. After me and my family went to this place and left we were so stuffed we could barely walk. The food has so much flavor and spice to it so if you are near by Staten Island come by and visit this place.

Diner Review №73

We have a dinner reservation but no tables were held for us and we waited for 30 mins to be seated. We waited for another 15 mins for server to come to us and another 15 mins to even bring drinks. Food is delicious and not expensive but service is very slow. Bread came out with appetizers (after 3rd one). Everything was delicious but 2-3 hour wait/ food , we had to pack most of the food to go.. Not sure if we will come there again

Diner Review №74

You see, I am not a big fan of this type of cuisine, but my family is. So we went out, and I have tried a few things. The food was really good. 👌

Diner Review №76

Food was really good. Nice service as well.

Diner Review №77

The food is amazing. I have done two takeouts from this Resturant. Both times food has been consistent and flavorful. If you like spice this place is for you. I’m so happy I don’t have to go up the blvd for this type of cuisine anymore. I can’t comment on the atmosphere of the Resturant since I have yet to dine in.
My picks so far for this resturant is lamb biriyani the meat is tender and is packed with flavor. I typically ask for medium spicy. The samosas are good kind of on the smaller size but tasty as well you get the typical 2 for one purchase. The honey chili chicken is a very tasty appetizer. I almost wish they had this as an option for entree served with some veggies with rice. It’s obvious to say I can’t wait to try more from the menu.

Diner Review №78

This place offers food that is sorely lacking on the island and at a reasonable price for the portions and various add-ons. Basil has multiple sections of their menu dedicated to specific foods, be it Thai, curry, chicken, or vegetarian. It can be a bit overwhelming with the choices, but pretty much anything on the menu I've tried is good. Their tandoori chicken is tender and well flavored. It goes well with some rice and a chaat to round it out with some acid and sauce. The chili garlic naan is also decently spiced and goes great with their chutney.
The servers are very courteous and attentive. They will make sure your water is filled and they will ask if you need anything else.
The restaurant itself isn't overbearing in decor, having just some pieces of art and with music playing in the background. It's a good place to go dine for two! They currently do offer takeout but unfortunately no delivery. But the food, considering how much value you get and taste, is comparable to what you get in the tourist places in Little India, and for less!

Diner Review №79

Delicious amazing food! Chicken tikka masala has a very addictive sauce! Beautiful atmosphere 💜

TLDR: everything was pretty good! employees are so kind! portion sizes are reasonable for the prices, and i was surprised the thai basil fried rice was good. just a bit cold by the window, and the table next to the kitchen door is a bit awkward. i was offered a free dessert to write this review.

long version: sometimes, fusion places take their losses by focusing on only one of the cuisines or missing the mark with fusion dishes- i was worried about that, but this place simply offers both and what they are offering is good! you'll notice the thai portion of the menu is smaller compared to the indian options, but that's because i believe they're cooking what they know best and not overextending themselves. i also appreciate how they differentiate between non-veg, veg, and vegan.

the thai basil fried rice with tofu was nicely spiced with actual thai basil, not oily, and even if i was weirded out by the bell peppers, i liked how they fried the tofu (protein of choice). the chicken satay was juicy, big, served with lime and a really good peanut satay! i wish there was more satay it was that good. honey chili cauliflower was awesome- crispy and sweet. the tikka salmon was perfectly cooked. the people i was with enjoyed their indian curries (chicken tikka masala, vegan tikka masala, lamb butter masala).

the waitress was attentive and friendly! the gulab jamun in kheer they served in exchange for this review was tasty, and i'm glad she offered that to us.

Diner Review №95

lamb biryani lacked a bit of flavor. The lamb itself wasn't the most tender I've had. The chicken wings were very good albeit a bit on the salty side. Garlic Nan bread was delightful.

Diner Review №96

My wish came true! We finally have an authentic Thai resturant on the south shore of si
We had pad thai chicken curry and omg the chili cauliflower. So amazing. They were busy so our order was delayed.. so they send a free appy- Veggie samosa. This is our new go to place

Diner Review №97

Food was absolutely delicious, but alas shadowed by subpar service. Waited over an hour and a half for our food to come. Additionally, other patrons (and door dash orders) would receive their food before our table would; and when received it was a dish at a time. Overall a mediocre experience topple down by a lack of proper service. It begs the question, is the food worth such a prolonged period of time?

Amazing food. Great hospitality. Great pricing. Love the ambiance and the staff.

Diner Review №111

Ordered online. They had no idea lol. I walked in and the guy was shocked that I had ordered. If they do not send you a text confirming they are preparing food, call to confirm. No big deal he said five minutes to cook. Took them maybe 8 minutes and they threw in free dessert.

Took the food home. Everything was spectacular. Chaat was delicious nice mix of spicy and sweet and also served hot (I am used to cold chaat). Potatoes in the chaat were a nice touch. Pad thai was excellent but my favorite was the basil fried rice. Simple but expertly executed. Most shocking was that it was SPICY. First fried rice I have ever had that was spicy but I loved it. BEWARE: they do not give the option to adjust spice level (which I like) but they do tend to lean on the spicier side. I thought it perfect but i can see how some might find it too spicy so if you want less spicy you might want to state that when ordering.

The guy running the place was also very nice. Pretty inside too - a nice blue color like a teal or something like that. All in all - great experience. Happy to have them in the neighborhood and I will be back!

Diner Review №112
