I used to love this place and even gave them a five-star review in the past. Unfortunately, it seems like all good things come to an end. On 12/27/24 at 6:00 PM, I picked up dinner, but my experience was far from what I expected.

I ordered my usual Kung Pao Chicken with extra chicken—a dish I’ve had many times before. This time, however, the portion was shockingly small, more like a kid’s side meal than a proper dinner. Confused, I called the restaurant to give them an opportunity to address the issue. Instead of understanding my concern, I was told, “You can speak to the manager, but it’s not going to make a difference; those are our portion sizes.”

As someone who values consistency, this was disappointing, especially since my previous experiences were excellent. If this is their new standard, I guess I’ll be taking my business elsewhere. To be fair, at the end of the call, they said, oh sorry we didn’t add the extra chicken.

Such a great experience and food was delicious. We came in on Valentine’s Day with our son, and Mei was such a sweetheart. We got the Devils Chicken, Chicken Pad Thai, and the San Antonio Roll. Fresh, delicious food served by hospitable and kind people here. Coming back as soon as we can!

The fresh fish on the sushi was warm, and the selection of rolls was not limited but seemed to be repeated.

I dine here at least 2 times every month. The staff is fantastic and the cuisine is even better. Try any dish with Thai Hot Level 5 if you love spicy!

We came in town and went online to check out the menu per their website. The prices on the website don't match the prices they charge you. If I see a kids meal for 8 95 I expect to pay that, not 14 dollars for some garbage version of lo mein with no flavor. Misleading your customers with an out of date website is bad practice and not ok.

Absolutely fantastic sushi restaurant with great service, well-prepared food, and reasonable prices. My partner and I had 2 rolls, drinks, an appetizer, and dessert for less than $50. We will absolutely be back.

Always look forward to eating here every time I’m in town. Food is always AMAZING!!!! And service is AMAZING as well. There has never been a time where mine or family’s order has been wrong, or us having to ask for a refill on our drinks, our cups are literally always kpt full 😊. Food was excellent and fahrenheit hot, service was pleasant, the restroom very clean and smelled nice. The only complaint I have was I asked for hot oil and was told there would be a charge and no table caddy with different oils.

My favorite thai restaurant in town

Went to this place once before and loved it. Last Saturday, however there seems to be a time discrepancy with Google/the hours on the door, and when the staff actually arrived. We had to go somewhere else, but overall we liked the vibe when we first ate there and hope we can eventually go again.

Sushi variety is awesome & tasty, but also expensive. Advertised mango & sticky rice on the board as you walk in, but said "don't have it yet":( Green curry was just okay. My husband ordered Drunken noodles and asked if he could get a mix of shrimp & mussels (equally priced), they did not say there would be an extra charge. Then they charged an extra $5! The most expensive protein is only $2 more and you can choose 2 seafood options...when I pointed this out, the server said she could do it for a $3 charge🙄. We get home and eat only to find out the mussels are terrible! they were like rubber and had a dirty flavor🤢...literally didn't even let the dog eat them.

Very good place. I had the fish with rice and veggies. I also had the Tom kha coconut soup as an appetizer. Everything was flavorful and delicious. The vegetables on my entree were cooked perfectly and the sauce that accompanied it was excellent. I highly recommend you try this place. I can’t wait to return.

The authentic char in a lot of the meats really elevates the flavor profiles of many of the dishes! Entree protein portions are generous but I feel the ratio of rice/noodles on many of the dishes is off. Though due to this there's a good value in the food as you'll definitely fill up. I suppose it's a trade off you'll have to decide for yourself if it ruins any of the dishes over.

There's little to no cell signal in this area and there is no wifi so this definitely isn't a place to sneak a "work thru lunch" meal at or isn't really a good place for remote work in general.

Food is excellent and server was friendly and kind but as soon as we started eating , pouring the soy sauce into the plater a small roach came out with it. Server had no reaction just took the soy sauce away and brought another saucer with sauce in it within seconds. Then I was offered $10 off for the inconvenience. Will not be coming back here.

On a trip to San Antonio, we saw that thisnplace had excellent reviews. Our first meal was excellent and the server was very attentive and friendly. We had such a good experience, we went back! The server recommended me 2 sushi rolls which were the best I've ever had. Would highly recommend this place.

Been going to Mon Thai for many years. It goes up and down but I feel it justifies its continuation by being a unique restaurant with a decent 'vibe' and in the evening, a lot of atmosphere. I don't like chain restaurants, I want something unique, different, and Mon Thai provides this. Plus Thai food in SA is hit-and-miss and Mon's tends to be more hit than miss. Occasionally I've had slightly over cooked food, or not ideal service, but considering how often I have gone, it must be generally good or I simply wouldn't go back. When I think of a decent, reliable, nice atmosphere slightly romantic restaurant to eat in, I always think of here, esp if my guests like Thai food because I don't think I have found better Thai then here - maybe abroad but not in SA. The food is generous in portion, tasty, they have many veggie options, cheap Saki, usually friendly staff (esp if the regulars) and whilst not uber-clean i've NEVER ever been sick after eating here and it's always gone down really well because they cook from scratch and use clean ingredients - I love their green and yellow curries the best. The Sushi is also very high quality and fair-priced. I also like a lot of their noodle dishes and my guests have said the meat dishes are really good esp prawn and beef. Overall you really can't beat this place for value and comfort, it's been around for a long while because it's good and I highly recommend it. I really hope it stays because independent restaurants are the heart of any good city eating experience & you feel you get that at Mon's which you don't feel in bigger more sterile restaurants. Plus I LOVE that it's a staple of San Antonio & is authentic, and unique, as well as being quite romantic. Definitely HIGHLY recommended.

We're Thai & we love soup & sushi. We've been trolling San Antonio for years (if not decades) to find the best soup & sushi. Every weekend is a new adventure! (The Vietnamese locals tend to win on the soup front.) Unfortunately, restaurants change hands, skilled chefs retire or move on, so the best place to eat is not a static thing, it changes year to year. The soup at Mon Thai is amazing, but their sushi is a gift from the gods. We've hit many sushi spots in San Antonio over the years. We have yet to find their equal. All the best reviews, they pale to this place. And it's not transitory. I don't know if they keep the same poor guy locked up in the back, rolling sushi year after year, but it's excellent every time. Every time I come home & I know we have sushi from Mon Thai, I hit that box before I even THINK of touching anything else. It's probably the best thing I'll taste for months on end.

This place has made my list of top 5 Thai places in town. They have a decent amount of noodle, curry, stir fry and rice dishes and you get to choose chicken, pork, beef, tofu, or seafood options. They also have a LOT of sushi offerings and a handful of Chinese entrees. The prices start at $11.50 and go up, depending on your choice of protein.

The food is hot and tasty, the service is good, the staff are friendly, and as I already mentioned, they have plenty of options on the menu.

Pad Prik King Tofu - spice level 3 - stir fried veggies in a chili paste with fried tofu. This is a really good dish with plenty of veggies (carrots, peppers, broccoli) - I was not disappointed. The fried tofu was cooked perfectly and had a nice crisp to it.

Pad Thai Chicken - spice level 2 - this was pretty good too, but on par with almost any pad Thai in town. The chicken was cooked perfectly so it absorbed the flavors of the sauce and it wasn't dried out.

Gang Khio Wan Tofu - green curry sauce with broccoli, peppers and bamboo shoots. The curry was spicy with a perfect balance of sweet and salty flavors - very tasty!

Yes, they have a full bar and a bottle of Sapporo beer is only $3 - you can't beat that with a stick folks.

And I almost forgot - be careful with those spice levels kids! Like other Thai places, the heat comes in levels 1 through 5. I ordered my dish as level 3 and it really made me sweat!

As a former employee, I can confirm that the kitchen is something found in a nightmare. The roaches infest the food and the owners obviously do not care. I hit a grill too hard once and dozens of roaches scattered like ants, I refused to put back together what I broke so the manager did it with her bare hands. They are so worried about expenses that they don't even wash the rags used to clean dishes or aprons. We found a roach in the rice once and the manager used the scooper to pick it up and crushed it with her shoe, continuing to put the scooper back in the rice. They do not provide gloves for employees, expecting us to pay for them with our own money. The dishwasher would use crusty and smelly rags weeks on end to dry dishes while some pans have never been washed. They have served spoiled food, and some smells I have experienced were worse than my time working in a county dump. If you are not worried about your own health however, the atmosphere is great (but dirty), the service is friendly, and the food is all in all delicious.

Has been one of our favorite restaurants in town for the last 7 years. When so many other restaurants are declining in quality of food or service, Mon Thai is still exceptional. Highly recommend the green curry!

Quaint and tucked away we found a real gem. Mom Thai has a really like, original cool before anyone else was cool, sort of vibe. The food was delicious, the staff was friendly. We are gonna go back with our friends. Overall pretty excellent!

The folks here were incredibly rude. The door had a very clear sign indicating that the restaurant was open until 10 p.m. - we arrived a few minutes after 9:00 p.m. There were approximately five or more tables seated. We asked to be seated and were told that the restaurant only does take out, despite the tables being seated. We then spoke to what appeared to be a bartender, who told us there was no manager at this restaurant with whom to speak to now or at any point in the future. Moreover, I mentioned the sign indicated that they were open until 10 p.m. and he proceeded to spew out various times at which they close when they no longer want to work. I asked once again to speak to a manager or an owner and he indicated that the store had no manager and that the owner is indefinitely unavailable. He said you can go online and give us a bad review but no nothing else. He was rude, and unhelpful.

Not clean, no Thai coffee or tea, I love curry and my curry was soo salty I was so disappointed.I've never had salty curry so I couldn't finish. One saving grace Mango and sticky rice was amazing.

Came here with coworkers. We were the only ones in the restaurant with the exception of two other people on the other side. Every person in our group said that their meal tasted spoiled or something and nobody touched their plates except for a few tiny bites. This restaurant used to have good food a few years back but has really gone downhill. Unfortunately, none of us will be returning.

The food was absolutely horrible. Anything that was fried was overcooked so that it was hard. The egg roll was actually black on one side and split open from being over cooked. The chicken was hard as a rock (all dark meat too). The fried food smelled and tasted like old over used cooking oil. Not edible at all. Sushi was blan and the fish quality poor.

I did not eat my food. My husband tried. And my 6 yr old ate about 2 overcooked French fries.

This is my son's favorite Thai restaurant in San Antonio. It's a very nice restaurant, but I think it's too pricey. They are currently repairing their outdoor eating area, which is pretty nice when its open. We didn't do any take out so I didn't see if there were plastics or other options for take out. It is a place that is not too noisy inside. Patient servers and cashiers which I needed, because I had a complicated credit card situation.

I have always had an amazing experience here for years and I can’t recommend this place to everyone enough. called the restaurant and somebody picked up the phone and asked, “how can i help you?” i then asked to place a pick up order and was immediately hung up on. tried to call back and they disconnected their phone line. they are obviously open and operating during lunch hours and it was extremely unprofessional / terrible customer service

The sushi was disgusting, salmon and tuna did not feel fresh, they were not cut properly (the pieces were big and very hard to chew), I had to drown it in soy sauce in order to stomach it.

Mon Thai has been around for awhile and kinda still feels like it. Seems to need a bit of freshening up with decor and ambiance. Had Pad Thai and unfortunately, noodles were sticky and mushy. Service was ok but expected a bit more overall. Might eventually try again to see if I was there on an off night.

We had lunch here, dine in, for the first time today. My husband and I each ordered our favorite Thai dishes from the lunch menu. Each was really good! The service was friendly, professional and fast. We had a tough time finding the restaurant and entrance. The sign on the outside of the building should be repainted a more visible color. A marquee near the street would help, too...and we live in the neighborhood! Nice place.

Great restaurant that I've been going to for thirteen years and still one of my favorite casual spots.

Delicious sushi! Good selection of rolls. I like the Spicy Dragon and Wild Tuna. They all tasted great and are so beautiful. They are a little pricey and kind of small. So make sure to get there for happy hour from 3pm-5pm for sushi discounts. Oh and the Spicy Edamame is a great way to start it off.

The server we had was very helpful and modified some of our entries, she also made great recommendations for the drinks, great service and great food! We will be coming back 🙏🏽

The service was great when my wife and I visited Mon's. We were well take care of and the food was served in a timely manner. All of the food was great, we ordered the tom yum soup and I had the pad thai. I can personally state that these dishes are delicious. We also were provided a glass with spice to add to our dishes if we cared for additional spice.

Delicious! Fresh sushi, great Thai, and large portion sizes. Leftovers are even good. I honestly can't wait to order again. You can eat inside or order to go as I did. If you want them to bring order to car, just call and let them know you've arrived. I didn't know that, so hopefully this helps someone :) Well worth visit!

Here now with my 3young kids & my husband foods are not even close to Thai authentic. Fried banana desert is fried in old oil. Waitress came out & asked if we’re ready for out check rather than asking if we need anything else. She didn’t just asked one time if we’re ready to pay soon after our orders arrived. With all the good things I read about this place, it’s a shame that we don’t get to see any of it. We didn’t feel welcome at all!

2 people out of our group of 6 got sick. We sent one dish back, and it wasn't credited. When we called the next day to let them know 2 of us had gotten sick from the food, they really weren't interested. I guess some restaurants have enough customers already.

Omg! Not a friendly welcoming person in the place. Food was average at best, place is a bit dirty. 3 other customers in the bar and we didn’t even receive a hello, had to ask for a menu. Bottom line service was bad. At least the beer was reasonably cold.

Thai hot is really Thai hot!

My wife and I came here on our first date and still go regularly. Mon's has some of the best thai food in San Antonio, especially when Mon is actually in the kitchen. The more traditional thai dishes are very authentic although the Chinese dishes seem a little Americanized. The sushi has always been fresh and well prepared.

Diners should be aware that the spiciness levels at Mon's are no joke. Don't order "Thai hot" unless you are well prepared for strong heat. I love the gang ped dish and think it tastes best when Mon makes it and makes it full strength, but it's a chore to eat it. I wouldn't do it if it wasn't, hands down, one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten. I eat jalapenos and serranos as a snack food. Thai hot at Mon's leaves me red-faced, sweating, with snot on full blast. A buddy who lived in Thailand for many years told me it was some of the best thai he's had, but despite loving hot foods, was struggling. He finished, though, because it's just so good. Just be aware that the first time you go to Mon's, you shouldn't ask to increase the heat on anything more than one level, because Mon doesn't screw around. I've taken home a lot of other people's leftovers who didn't take my advice.

Also, the deserts are great. Various made-in-house ice creams can help take the heat down if you stay from the default spiciness levels.

Great food. The staff was awesome and patient with our large group that came in late.

Solid go to for sushi and sake bombs you wont regret visiting this location plus cappys is across the street and that is a great place to have bite to eat as well

This place is sub standard. Lighting inside is suitable for an FBI interrogation . Ordered sushi not spicy and it was served extremely spicy. Dumplings were fried beyond recognition. Don’t waste your time here.
