Low-key Thai eatery offering curries, noodles & stir-fries, plus a variety of specialty sushi rolls.
Chaiyo's wasn't the absolute best food I've had in my life, but I still had a great time here and would recommend it to other people.
I came in with pretty low expectations, as the Asian food scene in Knoxville isn't great. The restaurant was quite empty for a Friday evening, but it is the summer.
Ordered the drunken noodles, chicken satay, and a couple of dishes that I don't remember off the top of my head. In general, the food was good, and I especially liked the drunken noodles.
Good spot! Also, it's very affordable.
This is the best restaurant I have been in years. I’m not big on chain restaurants or fancy things. This hits the spot! It also fills that void that taste of Thai left behind. Drunken noodles was done very well. The noodles were firm and consistent. I only waited 4 minutes for my food. The staff were friendly. Love the portions
This is by far my favorite restaurant in Knoxville, TN. First, the food is absolutely delicious - I've never had better chicken fried rice and lo mein anywhere else. Second, the portions are huge and the price is very affordable. Third, I love supporting a small, local family-owned business. The employees are very kind and I always feel welcome there, even when it is packed full. I have brought many friends and family here, and they always rave about their meal. I've even had friends request that I pick up Chaiyo's and bring to to them when I travel back to the Midwest. It sounds nuts, but it is true! I highly recommend that you give them a try if you haven't yet! The only downside is parking - good luck finding parking nearby with UT's campus being right there.
Low-key place with tricky parking, but well worth it! Absolutely delicious. Fried tofu is great. As some mentioned the food can be very spicy; they’ll ask you 1-10 but a 3 is honestly spicy enough. Can’t imagine which poor soul would get a 10.
The drunken noodles are phenomenal. You won’t find better anywhere else! The people inside work hard, fast, and create a great experience for their customers. 10/10 recommend you try.
Drunken noodles are unlike anything you can get elsewhere. 10/10
Reasonably priced, very nice service, and a fantastic red curry. Great spot close to campus.
Delicious food
Side veggies (broccoli, carrots) were usually included with fried chicken and satay, especially dining in, but they've been missing for a couple of times I ordered takeout.

Delicious food and great service!
Portion sizes are large
We almost visit twice a month. Really love the food!
Always fast and delicious food
Soooo good!!!🤤 Highly recommend!
Banging. No complaints!
Best Thai food in Knoxville!
Absolutely delicious! Amazing service, huge portions, and very good prices! I cannot recommend more!

The chicken Red Curry was amazing
Fantastic.
This place is great!
Absolutely love this place. It is always busy. The food is amazing. When you walk in the owner is there making the food and always welcomes you.
Not only the best thai food in Knoxville but you'll have your plate of food in just minutes after ordering
The food was amazing! Best Thai food I’ve had here.
Never had pho before but got it the other day. Can't remember having a better dish. It was unbelievable
After tasting the delicious food on day one, I had become a repeat customer.
I’ve been going to Chaiyos frequently for the past three years and love the place! The staff is very friendly, food is delicious, and comes out quick!
Excellent food, excellent service and a great selection of good food.
Food is great, but as I was leaving, I got stopped at the door and told that the tip I left wasn’t good enough and the lady basically shamed me for not leaving a good tip. Mind you, I never received a refill or got the drink I asked for. Will not be returning
I have to preface by saying I love the food here. I do think it's unacceptable their disregard for public health. They have recently changed their takeout food containers to Styrofoam. I have seen them put steaming hot food into the Styrofoam container causing the Styrofoam to melt. This poses a significant risk to anyone who eats Chaiyos takeout on a regular basis, as I once did.
Duncan noodles is something which these guys make best
Awesome food
I used to order Chaiyo’s a solid 1-3 times a week from 2015-2019. Since then I have ordered Chaiyo’s maybe 20 time and it is always wrong, specifically, it never has spice anymore? I used to love and rave about Chaiyo’s but ever since then it keeps being made without spice. Last night, it had been about 1 year since my last attempt, I said (again) (bc I love Chaiyo’s so much and their old flavor) that maybe it was a fluke, and there will be spice this time. My friend got a 6 and I got a level 4. Both had 0 spice. I don’t know when I will learn that I guess things changed, but I dearly miss the spice and broth that used to accompany all Thai dishes… did UT campus become too white and got too many complaints on spice? Idk, but I’d like my Thai spicy! Ugh this was the best Thai in town and now I’m at a loss.
Terrible experience! The lady that was “taking care” of us at the table didn’t do it anything besides taking our order. She didn’t gave us the chopsticks after we asked twice for it. The food was not good and at the end after the checkout the lady came following us at the street questioning us “why did u ladies put just this amount of tip??!”, we were like “????” she came with the checks and a pen for us change the amount and she was yelling at us like if we had did something wrong. It’s a personal choice, she shouldn’t be questioning or kind of harassing us. Never going back there!
This was my first time visiting this restaurant and was not disappointed! I got the chicken pad Thai and the only complaint I have is that I wish there had been more chicken. There were 5-6 bite sized pieces, I found mixed in the noodles, and wish there had been more for the money.
Our server was wonderful. Very welcoming and explained the menu to my table. Asked us if we had any questions, and checked in on us as we were eating.
Will definitely be going back and recommending to others!! : )
I love their green curry.
Best thai in Knoxville
Love this place! Best Thai food in knoxville for sure
The staff were very patient and understanding as it was my first time eating here. The food that I ordered came out was exceptional. It's definitely a hidden gem worth checking out.
Ordered the pad Thai, spicy tuna roll and a salmon tempura roll. Pad Thai was alright but have had better. The spicy tuna was alright but the salmon tempura was only salmon and nori with nothing else and then deep fried. It was dry, def packed a lot of protein but not worth the cost. They were okay at best. Decided to get the roti for dessert and that was the best thing. Aside from the food, there was no parking. You had to either park at a meter, risk it and park at the private parking lot across the street or the private parking at the restaurant beside them. Happy to try out a new place but don’t think we will be going back.
Fantastic food, I go here once a week.
My husband and I ventured out to Knoxville for our date night and wanted to find a new thai place since our favorite is currently closed. We were very happy with our meal. We had yellow curry, red curry, pad thai and mango sticky rice. Everything was delicious and very flavorful. The spice level was perfect (we ordered a 5 spice level). The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is right next to UT and it was right in the neighborhood for university students which made us feel a little out if place and parking a little difficult but for the food it was totally worth it and we will be back!!
First time coming here and it was an alright experience. Only a few street parking, they have no parking lot. The salmon tempura roll was overcooked and dry. The pad Thai was decent.
I ordered Pad Thai, but unfortunately, the beef was undercooked. I understand it was a busy time, so I still left a tip as it wasn’t the waitress's fault. However, I wanted to share this feedback in hopes that it can be addressed. Thank you.
This is the epitome of a great university-centric restaurant. Full of faculty and students. Great service, even better food!
Great food, great service, large portions of food for a good price. We go so often that they remember us and our order. It’s a fun and friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend if you’re close, go early at noon, it gets busy fast! It’s quite popular!
Best Thai in Knoxville and surrounding area.
As a SoCal transplant, we are on the search for great food.
My fave and "benchmark" for Shrimp Panang Coconut Curry (w/rice), was a hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant in Santa Barbara.
Well...this place has matched/surpassed my fave dish from the Left Coast.
Congrats...I'll be
ordering this dish 2x-3x times per month!
My daughter ordered pad thai and rangoons...seemed OK but not top notch.
College place, Thai food looked very good; we had sushi which was OK. Did not taste bad but not sushi you would get in downtown (Two Fins). The salmon appeared frozen/defrosted multiple times which affects the texture
Our new favorite Thai place! The service was incredible, huge portions, and super fresh food. We ordered the crab rangoon, spring rolls, pineapple rice, and pad see ew. All items arrived piping hot and tasted phenomenal. We noticed while there that the to-go orders were flying out the door, so we're not the only ones fond of Chaiyo. We'll be back!
It was expensive and low quality food
Chaiyo's wasn't the absolute best food I've had in my life, but I still had a great time here and would recommend it to other people.

Good spot! Also, it's very affordable.
It doesn't look like much from the street, but this place was awesome. Their iced tea was tasty, clearly they're using good stuff. The steamed dumplings were fantastic, they were gone when the plate hit the table. The tom kha was the star, I ordered it at a spice level 10 and as a very heat tolerant guy it was pushing my limits, and I think it goes up to 80?! I also got the sashimi & sushi platter and everything on it was tasty and well prepared. Service was also quick and friendly. The atmosphere is very casual and unpolished, but not in an unpleasant way. Prices are extremely reasonable, I was astonished how much food was on that $15 platter. It was also pretty packed on a Monday evening in the summer, so it must not be a well kept secret.
Authentic very friendly
I love this small but amazing Thai restaurant right next to the University of Tennessee. Traditional offerings, as well as their specialties. Friendly and helpful staff. Amazing Thai chefs. And you have to try their Thai Chai Tea. Unique and so good.
First time eating here and this is the best Thai food I have had in downtown Knoxville. I had the drunken noodles and they ask you what kind of heat you're comfortable with.my buddy had the teriyaki salmon and he said it was excellent.i highly recommend if you're in the area, the only issue we had was the waitress had a hard time understanding English but we worked
through it.
Fantastic teriyaki chicken
This is a great low cost Thai restaurant very close to UT. The Drunken Noodles that I had were really good and priced even for a college student's budget. Try this little place. I think you will enjoy it!
Awesome place. Great place to eat if you're on campus. If you're a huge chicken teriyaki fan, I think you should try their chicken teriyaki. It's really good. The service was excellent and they're such nice people. I definitely recommend this place. Very welcoming atmosphere too!!
The best place to eat in Knoxville. Great value for money and the food tastes amazing. I love the staff so much 🫶
First time here and it was SO good! Had the Sea of Love sushi roll to share and shrimp pad Thai for my entree. The pad Thai will feed me twice more. There was a huge amount of food. It was all delicious
Chaiyos is by far the best Thai food I have ever eaten. In college I ate there at least once if not twice a week just because it was so good. After graduating, I would say it has been one of the main things I have missed since leaving Knoxville. Even when studying abroad I was constantly craving their food. The flavors hit every time and you always have a huge portion to bring home with you. The staff is attentive and quick, and always have a smile on their face. Drunken noodle, Pad Thai, red curry or the James Roll, always hit. 10/10 would recommend to anyone.
Best Thai food I had so far and I tried plenty all around the states. Hospitality is second to none. Again great food! Try the iced coffee!
Best Pad Thai in Knoxville!
The food was very good and the servers were watching everyone to see if they needed anything...walking distance from our hotel and probably the best thai tea I have ever had.
Food was great. The pad Thai is very good and they give you massive portions. Im glad I have found this place as im very impressed. Give it a shot if you’re around, you won’t be disappointed. This has become one of my favorite stops in Knoxville. Highly recommend.
Best food I've had while out in a long time. Large servings, great flavor, nice staff. We got the Salmon Tempura Roll, the Nigiri Combo, and the Salmon Teriyaka for all about $50. Got literal chills after trying the Salmon Tempura Roll, it was THAT good.
We came in around 5PM on a weekday so it was starting to get a little busy, by the time we were ready to check out, the entire dining room was full. They only had two servers so we knew to be a little patient, however they got tables ready quick as folks left and people seated shortly after. Definitely plan to come in again.
Excellent food. Quality and quantity is best. Very friendly staff.
This place had great energy. Their pad Thai was plentiful!!! They were very friendly and the service was great, and it was affordable.
Great food! Servers working so hard! 💪🏻💪🏻
LOVE this place. Food is amazing and the waitresses are very attentive. Parking is a little weird but overall will be a favorite restaurant!
Great place with good food and price
Always have great food there
I LOVE THIS PLACE. my favorite sushi place by far. I did an in depth review on this on my YouTube channel (pollyreed17) so check it out if you need recommendations. It is amazing. My fav roll is the volunteer.
Located where the old Falafel Hut was in Fort Sanders, the Casher Chicken was very tasty. I asked for 5 out of 10 for spiciness, and only coughed a little. Parking nearby can be problematic, but we lucked out on the street.
Love this place. Very generous portions for a $10-$15 meal. Delicious too.
Omg this was the Worst food i have ever tasted. It was tasteless. Unseasoned and my kid would have made better
This is my favorite Thai restaurant in Knoxville and drive from the west side to get it!!!! The basil, fried rice and spring rolls are amazing with large portions!!
Curry was good wantons over cooked disappointed
The best Thai and some of the best Asian cuisine in Knoxville!
My favorite thai food in Knoxville. That Penang curry boiiii!
Food was amazing! And the spice level was outta this world! Their always busy with them being on campus but if you can snag a table they are well worth the wait
We always get takeout. I love the egg rolls, a perfect crunch, and the wrap part was not too thick, allowing the filling to be the star of the flavor show. Perfect pork filling. The pho is just fantastic. Well, very salty, but extremely flavorful! And the beef with it is SO TENDER. The rice noodles are also cooked to perfection and they give you a generous amount of cilantro. The pad la na is ok, the noodles were kind of a gross slimy stuck together texture, but the veggies were mild and yummy. The chicken in the pad la na was overcooked and too tough. The red curry was tasty. I like the sliding gradient of 0-10 spice levels (or higher if you're crazy). One thing that was not the greatest customer service is, I asked for rice instead of noodles for the pad la na, and they said repeatedly they couldn't sub the rice. They didn't make sense to me. Seems like an easy swap.... The price point is good, especially for lunch. Definitely recommend Chaiyo particularly for their pho and eggrolls.
This place is consistently good, I like that they have online ordering with easy pickup, and the staff is always nice.
Chaiyo is my favorite Thai food in Knoxville. Great curries, tasty pad thai, the basil leaves and peppers dish is a favorite as well. And their staff is always friendly and helpful. Great for dining in or carry out. And the Thai tea is a great treat!
Literally the best pho that wasn’t homemade that I’ve ever had !!! The broth is really rich and flavorful, it’s not watered down like other restaurants!! Great price too !
Rude!!!!
I can't say good enough things about Chaiyo's. This is the best Thai restaurant in Knoxville, nowhere else even comes close. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, especially Vlad! He always makes us feel so at home, and taken care of. More than that, the food is out of this world. Very consistent, inexpensive, and always satisfying. Highly recommend the Drunken Noodles, the Volunteer Sushi Roll, the Green Curry, and Thai Tea. I love this place, and will bring all my family and friends for many many years to come.
Good for a quick bite. Very filling. Good bubble tea!
Love this place, but the parking is not good during the school year.
This was my first visit here, I met a friend for dinner. The staff was super friendly, and my Pad Thai was some of the best I've had in Knoxville! I would definitely recommend visiting Chaiyo for some great food and service! And just an FYI, a lot of the parking meters are free after 6pm and all day Sunday.
AMAZING 👏 the red curry is delicious. Thai tea was also great. The service was so friendly. The food is authentic, well seasoned, and fresh.
The food is good. I had Pad C Ew. My family had drunken noodles. We shared the UT Roll.. The sushi was nice and fresh. The UT Roll is a warm roll from the topping. My favorite is the Thai Tea and the UT Roll from the visit.
Great place to get Thai and Sushi
One word! YUMMY!!!!
Usually a good experience. Went the other night while they were admittedly packed. Me and my roomate got pretty bad food poisoning from the sushi and not one drink refill.
Awesome food and the servers are the best!!! Love this place. You must try the Larb!!!
A bustling Delicious little hole in the wall that's authentic and super friendly
They would not seat me even though they had open tables because I was by myself. Ridiculous.
We really like this restaurant. They will happily make the food as hot as you want.
Two out of my three sushi rolls are fantastic. Sadly my vegetarian roll came stuffed with Daikon. No where on the menu did it mention it or I wouldn’t have ordered it. I’m assuming they ran out of carrots since carrots are no where in the roll. Next time please tell your customers if you’re out of something. It’s an entire roll I won’t eat. The rest of our food is spectacular, more sad than anything
Food poisoning. Worst sushi in Knoxville
Authentic tai food. I got the pad tai and I will be back. This is my new tai place. Everyone was super nice, food was hot fresh.
Two of four people in our party got bad food poisoning after eating at Chaiyo’s. Everyone ordered different food, so 50% of the meals resulted in illness, specifically the sushi and the shrimp pad Thai. This restaurant had good reviews and the chicken curry and drunken noodles tasted good, but we should not expect violent illness following eating at any restaurant, especially one with good reviews such as this one. Perhaps something has changed since they built up their reputation, but I would not eat here again and I would not recommend eating here unless you don’t mind throwing up for 6 hours and feeling terrible the following day.
Very Americanized and very greasy. Absolutely no flavour. But the potions are giant. If you love Thai I would NOT recommend. Leave it for the undergrads!
I love Chaiyos! Not sure how authentic it is but the pad see ew with chicken is my fav😋
You gotta have a James (Agee) roll if you're in the area! If you want to challenge yourself on the Thai scale of spicy, then no matter what part of town you find yourself you'll not find a better place to do it.
Delicious food. Fantastic service!
An institution in the Fort but wider Knoxville as well. Been coming here for over 13 years and it's consistently great. The staff is the coolest, too!
My favorite restaurant in Knoxville. Always incredible food with flavorful spice. Great portions. I will continue to be a returning customer.
Best drunken noodle in Chattanooga and Knoxville… maybe best in all of East TN… maybe best in all of TN… need to do more research.
It's very loud, but I love to visit this place for lunch. It's very loud and the servers are always busy, but the food makes up for everything.
Definitely one of the best Asian restaurants in town.
The pad thai tasted like a bowl of hot sauce, the front desk dude was rude. Chef was challenging my opinion on my taste. The veggie rolls weren't bad but, I won't waste my money here again. Maybe it was the chefs issue. But guys.... fish sauce is an ingredient of pad thai.. I thought this was authentic, I WAS WRONG.
Always delicious, every time. As spicy (or not) as you like. Tofu is tasty, not mushy. A local favorite for years.
Check yo food before you lev because they will gladly give u what u didn’t order. This has to be the 4th time
This is one of my favorite places in Knoxville! The good comes out quick and is perfect. As a vegetarian, they have so many delicious options to choose from and they're all so yummy. My favorite dishes are the Red Curry and Drunken Noodle. Whether you get takeout or eat in-house you won't be disappointed. Cheers!
Knoxville favorite. Love their drunken noodle. Any spice level above 6 stars is legit. Owner is a lovely, generous woman. Sushi is also way above average--they stay busy so you can trust everything to be fresh.
