Food is excellent, but be patient as they are not fast. That is, it’s really a dine-in experience. Despite the food taking a while (I suspect we were competing with heavy pickup orders), the food was excellent and I for once worth the long wait. I’ll come back again to see if the long food prep times are normal, but highly recommend.

Diner Review №3

The food was excellent and the environment was classy. On the day that we went, they seemed understaffed and it took over an hour from the time we ordered to delivery of the check. I'd like to go back on a day where they seem to have enough staff to deal with their capacity.

Diner Review №4

My husband and I went here for a date night, craving some authentic Thai food and missing our favorite hole-in-the-wall joint in TX. It did not disappoint!! So delicious!

I like this place and lady's that work there are the best!

Diner Review №14

I’ve been frequenting this place for lunch for a little over a year now. Everything on the menu is quite reasonably priced and everything I’ve tried has been excellent. The only negative I have on this place is thats it’s a very popular lunch spot and can sometimes get backed up, there is certainly a case made for expansion.

Diner Review №15

The food was great and there are good options for people with dietary restrictions but the service was the BEST they were very thoughtful, factoring in its small size it is truly a HIDDEN GEM as it unmatched in quality compared to some of the bigger restaurants around.

Another awesome experience at this authentic Thai restaurant. Absolutely love this place. The service is brilliant too. They treat you like family here.

3 Thumbs Up & 5 Stars from us :)

Diner Review №26

Great service and food was delicious

Diner Review №27

Hot Basil was top-notch, with tender juicy chicken breast and an amazing sauce. Not very spicy, so don't let that put you off. We also ordered Ginger Lover (delicious) and Sweet and Sour, which was unexpected and super! It had a tomato base instead of the corn syrup goop you often see, quite delicious if you like a sweeter entree. Took a bit to get our meal, obviously cooked to order.

Diner Review №28

This was the last time I'll eat there. I have worked as a waiter, cook, and manager of many restaurants, and have a sensitivity / understanding of food service. Our food took about an hour to arrive, and less than half the tables were occupied, I saw 1 or two to-go orders. Only ONE time did the waitress / manager acknowledge how long it was taking, and that was about 45 minutes in. My dish (drunken noodles) was good, my wife's, shrimp fried rice was bland, tasted like a frozen food.

We have been going to this place for a LONG time, 20 years, maybe? It gets worse every visit. No reaction from the owners / management after my last review, they do not care. Try Kao Thai down town..

Diner Review №29

Always great food and friendly service in a casual atmosphere

Diner Review №30

Very good Thai food!

Diner Review №31

My favorite Thai place in the COLA area!

Diner Review №32

I go basically every week and get the same exact thing every time. The employees know my order and seem genuinely happy to see me. I always leave with a smile.

Diner Review №33

Best Thai food in West Columbia! I'm surprised this place doesn't stay more busy. The outside might not be too inviting, but the inside ambiance, with the soft jazz music and nice decor, brings you to a different place. The food was excellent and cheap compared to other Thai restaurants. Great service too! Definitely give this spot a try!

Diner Review №34

My first time there, I'm a person who eats alot of roast duck. So I ordered the the duck dish for $23.99 to go. Once I get home, it's all dark meat and was appealing. I watched those dishes for 2 days in my refrigerator, then tossed them in the garage. If you're paying that much for a stir fry please give people white meat. Thanks!

Diner Review №36

If I go to a Thai restaurant, I will always try their pad thai. I have fallen in love with this business and their pad thai is incredible. While I am not vegetarian, I love the tofu option best! They also have incredible appetizers that I would strongly suggest trying. The service is fast and efficient when I eat in. Usually I grab it to go and if I feel like spoiling myself I’ll add on a Thai Tea boba tea and it always hits the spot. I would highly recommend trying this restaurant!

Diner Review №37

The interior of the restaurant is open and seems small, but we were comfortably seated during lunch hour. The food was delicious, and we enjoyed generous portions that came home with us as great leftovers.

Diner Review №38

This place is worth every penny. My family loves to go to Mai Thai. Their wait staff is fantastic. The food is fresh. They really take care of you. This restaurant is definitely in our top list of places to eat.

We love going here for our authentic Thai dishes. The service is keeping up on busy dinner nights, which is cool! There were no photos this time, as we devoured our food right away. This time, I had the thai fried rice and green curry. My husband had the pad thai. Everything in their menu is very good. Highly recommend.

Diner Review №59

Published closing hours of 2:30 after lunch is misleading, both online and on the door, kitchen closes at 2:15. Food here is always excellent. Service can be hit or miss depending on the staff. I arrived at 2:17 the other day hoping to avoid the crowd, but the place appeared pretty busy. Attempting to walk in I found the door locked and I reviewed the hours posted on the door saw closing was posted at 2:30. A staff member unlocked and asked if I had a pickup and when I replied that I hoped to eat in she replied that the kitchen closes at 2:15. It looked like the place was packed as usual but that didn't really matter. I wanted to just make the point that posted hours are 2:30 and as she was locking the door the staff member said kitchen closing at 2:15 is posted on the door. Before I left, I looked for where it said that on the door and if it does it's within faded yellow above the regular hours. I couldn't read what the yellow said. I think it makes more sense to post the time they stop taking orders as the closing time, it might save some customers from wasting their own and staff time. Being clear about this might also keep this from creating a bad experience. Meeting and exceeding expectations are what make a great experience. Someone might also want to verify if locking the door with customers still inside is a violation of fire code. I'm guessing it is.

Diner Review №60

Watched a waitress harass a patron, screaming at her and her husband. Both individuals were visibly handicapped. I noticed the incident was reviewed on here, and the manager actually responded that she was happy her waitress behaved in such a harassing manner! I definitely won't be back either after witnessing that waitress yell at those two people. Clearly the waitress has something against minorities and those with physical disabilities per the reviews I read. Mai Thai messed up and owes those people an apology. I heard the woman request her tofu be fried. Then to claim she didn't and make such a display made my dinner experience horrible too! Nasty rude people there!

Diner Review №61

6/26/2024. We've been to Mai Thai 3x in just the last 6 weeks. You'd think that would count for something??? I order the same thing each time we are there. Our waitress evidently forgot to write down to "fry" the tofu put in my soup. I won't eat it raw. Thus, my soup was made incorrectly. I noted this and the other waitress (CC = shrill, loud, rude) yelled at me making a huge scene. She pointed at the sign and lectured us in a demeaning manner that we'd still have to pay for it, even if I didn't eat it. She yelled that I obviously didn't specify what I wanted. My husband and I both stated that I was very explicit in my directions. She continued to lecture me loudly and stormed off to the kitchen. Everyone in the restaurant were staring in our direction. I didn't expect to see the soup back. I wanted to leave and never come back. Both my husband and I thought it would be a nice break after a medical appointment, but I felt attacked, & my condition flares up when people go to such lengths to harass me publicly. The soup was partially fixed. Some of the tofu was still un-fried. We told our waitress what happened, asked for the manager, who wasn't there, and then we asked for her contact information, which our waitress said no one had. Shouldn't a manager be able to be reached??? At that point I was literally shaking and couldn't finish my meal. Evidently, both waitresses find such abominable behavior on the part of CC as normal. My husband asked me to head to the car, because he saw how my system was extremely aggravated & worried about a possible asthma attack on top of the lupus flare I was already experiencing. He said he asked why no one apologized to me for being yelled at publicly in a harassing manner, and CC claimed her shrill, loud, mocking tone is her everyday tone. So, clearly she sees nothing wrong with chewing people out regularly. Well, that's not acceptable! We frequented your establishment, wanted a relaxing meal, but now know, not only is that not possible in the future, with one staff member getting off on berating customers for no other reason than she gets off on bullying and humiliating people! The fact that no manager was there with this kind of behavior going on says loads too. Clearly, this gives the staff the message of no accountability. When you allow this behavior to happen with no repercussions, I guess it's normal, horrible customer service, especially for an establishment who's manager doesn't even want to be there & can't be reached by staff. We spent $74 on food not prepared to our specifications, were yelled at like children, and clearly the manager doesn't care, because she lets this behavior (they see as normal) continue! It was one of the worst experiences I've had in a restaurant!

Diner Review №62

Diner Review №63

Excellent food and a great menu. Just a little cramped and close together but it looks like a renovation next door will give it more space soon.

Diner Review №64

Diner Review №65

Love Mai Thai!

Everything I've tried has been amazing and full of flavor. They do a mix of dine in and carryout, and things get busy as soon as their doors open for the day. They use quality fresh ingredients, and it does take time for them to prepare, so I try to plan accordingly. Serving sizes, I feel, are decently sized, and I always bring home leftovers. For the quality and service, I feel the prices are more than fair. The servers are kind and attentive, considering how busy they get.

Diner Review №66

This restaurant is in my families weekly rotation! Great food, kind staff, and good portions for what you pay. My favorites are cashew nut chicken, chicken amazing, and the drunken noodle! They also have the best steamed dumplings and cheese wontons in town!

Diner Review №67

Diner Review №68

Diner Review №69

Mai Thai has THE BEST Thai food that I have had in the Midlands. The food, service, and atmosphere were all great and the meal portions were also abundant for the price of the meal. If you are looking for a new Thai restaurant or are looking to try authentic Thai dishes, I would highly recommend Mai Thai!

Diner Review №70

One of my favorite restaurants ever - I have been coming to Mai Thai for at least 10 years and am always a happy customer. Their “Amazing” sauce truly lives up to the name! It may look inconspicuous from the outside, but the inside is gorgeous and perfect for a date night or girl’s evening. The staff has been more or less the same over the years and they always greet you with warmth.

Diner Review №71

Diner Review №72

Very nice place. Food was tasty and good. Svc was good. Menu offered a lit of choices

Diner Review №73

Shameful place. Customer service was rude and discriminated against a customer over his order. He requested special requests for allergies. And she told him to his face that he never said anything.

Two women there told him to his face he never said anything. And he did. Sad how people treat black customers like trash. They never gave him back his money and pointed to a sign saying "no refunds". I hope they get suid.

Diner Review №74

Mai Thai is one of my favorite sit-down Asian restaurants in the area. They have a very calm, relaxing atmosphere and the food is delicious. The service was slow on my most recent visit, but I wasn't in any rush to go anywhere afterward so it wasn't a big deal to me.

High quality food and service.

Diner Review №81

Mai Tai has excellent Thai cuisine. One of my favorites is the drunken noodles, also known as Pad Kee Mao,which I got again this time. I also had the My Thai roll which is very good. The waitresses and staff are very friendly and super polite. I intended to take pictures but forgot.

Diner Review №82

The food is absolutely delicious. Just don't order the fried calamari it's a bit rubbery. The atmosphere is nice, the service is good. The chicken satey absolutely moist and mouth watering. The cashew chicken absolutely fabulous. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did

Diner Review №83

Great food.

Diner Review №84

Unless you are allergic to fish sauce the food is good. Pleasant service but high waiting time.

Diner Review №85

Diner Review №86

Food is great. Recommend the duck, it was phenomenal, absolutely delicious. They also offer a lot of drinks like boba and hot tea along with traditional Pepsi drinks. Also the duck was only 14$. Crazy good price.

Diner Review №87

Diner Review №88

Food was great as usual, the service was just as good.

Diner Review №89

This might be my favorite restaurant in Columbia. The food is great, servers are kind, and you get a great portion for the price. We have been many times, for lunch and dinner as well as takeout. It can be slow compared to other places (expect to be there for around an hour, or more if you have a big group). We love the soft-shell crab appetizer, and our favorite entrees are the pad see ew, drunken noodles, and the hot basil.

Diner Review №90

Diner Review №97

The dinner I had wouldn't be good at half the price shrimp was good but the chicken was like eating paper

Diner Review №98

Diner Review №99

Diner Review №100

Diner Review №101

Diner Review №102

The food was ok. The hour and a half we had to wait for it was not. The service was lacking (we kept having to ask for things like drink refills and silverware). I would not eat here again. Takeout maybe though.

Diner Review №103

The staff are more than wonderful, I've never had anything less than a great experience with Mai Thai, and thats saying something as I eat there at least once every two weeks or so and have for a while. The drunken noodles is where it's at, for sure. That and a Thai tea (or three) and your set up for success. Don't miss out on the wonderful dine in experience as well. It's a really laid back, casual setting, amazing for date night or any other night as well!!

Diner Review №104

My favorite asian cuisine in the West Columbia area. They are always sweet and the food is on point. I’ve been going here for literally 15 years.

Diner Review №105

Diner Review №106

Diner Review №107

Diner Review №108

My first time at Mai Thai was a few years ago. We went at lunch, my experience was not memorable. So I didn't go back for a long time. Some time around the middle of this year we decided to give it another shot. Must have just been an off day or something, that happens to us all. I've been back and I keep going back. We're lucky in Columbia to have a few super high quality Thai restaurants and all of them are my favorite haha. Mai Thai is near the top of the list. The staff are all super sweet and work hard for their customers and the food is outstanding. Their drunken noodle is unique compared to most Thai places and I think I will declare: they have the best drunken noodle dish. So flavorful, so spicy and such a big serving. Mai Thai rules, I'm sorry for ever doubting it.

Diner Review №109

Honeyyyyy! Let me tell you. This is our favorite Thai restaurant in town. We love the staff and the food is absolutely delicious. Fresh and flavorful authentic Thai cuisine with spices and great red Curry are out of bounds! We love it here. It's a small family owned restaurant and they have takeout; all of which means it's busy and you may have to wait, but it's so worth it!

Diner Review №110

The service is great. The food is good average. We both had curries, but the curries are blend, not thick enough. The taste is ok but missing the rich flavor I usually find on Thai cooking. The Tom Kha Soup on the other side is perfect. The thickness of the soup matches the strong flavor from galanga n lemon grass.

Diner Review №111

Diner Review №112

What a delicious and awesome place. Always packed! The soups are just tasty (love the seafood tom yum) and the duck is my absolute favorite. Occasionally i switch for the curry or the pad thai, and they are equal success.

Diner Review №113

The most consistent and delicious Thai food I’ve had. Everytime I come back down to Columbia I have to eat here. The Amazing is the best peanuts curry I’ve ever had. I’ve tried many different places and no one can get close to theirs, I highly recommend. The staff is amazing, before I say anything they already know what my order is over the phone. Must eat Thai place in the Columbia, Lexington, and Irmo area.

Diner Review №114

I love to come here with friends and family. It's even perfect for a date! The food is excellent and made fresh to prepare to wait a moment, but SO worth it! I love their hot teas and cucumber salad!

Diner Review №115

Diner Review №116

Updating my review. Nothings changed it's still the best and after several years it is still my go to. I do not see my favorite meal under recommended dishes but I highly suggest trying the "amazing " I prefer the chicken but each protein is good as well

Diner Review №117

This service was just as bad as the food. I don’t suggest this place to anyone and would actually recommend your local Chinese spot for the same/better experience.

It’s a beautiful restaurant with small seating and crowed waiting areas. Also, the employees were pretty forward and slightly rude. For $20 I expect better quality all around.

Diner Review №118

Sitting area is congested. Food was not worth 18 dollars. Can also work on customer service skills.

Diner Review №119

My daughters and I went right after they opened on a Saturday. Halfway through our delicious and generous meal, there was already a wait list and people hanging outside for a table! The pad see ew was amazing, especially with crispy tofu.

Diner Review №120

Diner Review №121

Food is always on point.

Diner Review №122

Delicious food!

Diner Review №123

Wow. What a place. The food was amazing. But it's limited seats. So make sure you get there in time. I got the glass noodles and they were amazing. I also ordered the bubble tea. It was soo delicious. One place you have to try.

Diner Review №124

Diner Review №125

Arguably the best Thai place around Columbia for many years.

Diner Review №126

The food is GREAT! I’m from the pacific and this is real Thai flavors. Delicious! However, they are SOOOOO SLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOWW. The staff is very friendly, but I wonder if they only have one cook or something? We waited an hour for just our appetizers. Call in an order to go so you can live your life and pick it up when it’s ready for you. I understand waiting for good fresh food, but…..

Diner Review №127

I ordered Pad thai spicy level 4 But I got it without any spicy taste

Not recommended for people who’s really hungry because I’ve been waited for almost 1 hours for my Pad thai 😅

Diner Review №128

The Masaman curry with chicken was really good.

Diner Review №129

Diner Review №130

Diner Review №131

Firstly, the service at this restaurant was exceptionally poor. They handed me a torn and tattered menu, then told me not to flip through it randomly. Secondly, we waited 40 minutes for our appetizers, and when they finally arrived, they were cold. Thirdly, the boba tea was terrible. I ordered matcha boba tea, but it tasted like it was made from a powder mix. Fourthly, all the dishes were drowned in heavy sauces, which made them taste awful. I'd rather go to Subway. There was nothing about this restaurant that satisfied us from start to finish. The only decent dishes were the side of steamed broccoli and carrots. We will never come back here!

Diner Review №132

Been here several times. Food has always been excellent and the service polite and responsive. Like everywhere else, their prices have increased recently, but they're still reasonable. Definitely worth a visit.

Diner Review №143

I was looking for a good Thai restaurant and stumbled across this place. The seating is a bit crowded so I didn’t much care for the atmosphere. I ordered a salad, cream cheese wontons, and yellow curry. The peanut dressing was not good compared to other Thai restaurants I’ve visited. The cream cheese wontons were good but Thai cream cheese rolls is what I prefer when eating Thai food. For some reason they serve curry, a liquid consistency type of dish, on…..a…..plate…….I don’t know who came up with this idea, but you barely get curry because it’s served on a plate. The other problem is that because it’s spread thin across the plate it gets cold very quickly.

I will never visit this establishment again.

Diner Review №144

This is my favorite Thai restaurant of all. Unfortunately I live 4-1/2 hours away, but this is always a must stop when we are in Columbia. Drunken Noodles are always great here. Pad Thai was also delicious. Great Curry's also at our table as well. Walk in the front door and take a deep breath, you'll know right away you're in for a real treat!

Diner Review №145

Been a customer here for years. Their food is good but today we showed up at 2:15 and were told by the server theybare closed. Then sign on the door says 11-2:30. If it says 2:30, they ahould be open till 2:30. I guess theybare more interested in playtime than business.

Diner Review №146

Despite the food took forever to be served, everything went well. Thai tea was great! In the picture, it's the Rainbow Duck I ordered. I finished the whole thing in 5 mins!

Diner Review №147

The best Thai food in Columbia easily. You can’t go wrong ordering here, and the boba is delicious as well as the food. The Tom kha is really good as well.

How have I never been here before?? The inside is absolutely beautiful (and smells scrumptious) the service is very fast and friendly and the food is GOOOOOODT...the lunch special was only $11 with a nice sized portion. The house chicken and rice soup that comes with the special was simple but AMAZING, the chicken satay looked dry at first but was juicy, and delicious. I think I've found my new home.

I am a regular diner at Mai Thai. I know that we live in polarizing times but the customer service from staff here is very subpar at least for me as a woman of color. Money is green everywhere and this staff needs to acknowledge this like yesterday. Of course I expressed my disappointment today and it probably fell on deaf ears. They behave as if they could care less with customers who look like me.

Diner Review №176

Clearly shortstaffed but very polite and trying thir best. The food was excellent with high quality ingredients. Unfortunately after a long wait my meal was brought out at least 4 minutes before my wife's, and our glasses regularly hit empty before being refilled, but I'm sure it's that they were short staffed.

Mai Thai is fantastic! It's a go-to for us, especially if we are nearby. It's location is near the entrance to the Botanical Garden/ back entrance to the Zoo.

The food is delicious. I have never had a bad meal here. I highly recommend the Pad See Eww.

The staff are very nice and very accommodating.

The atmosphere is very comfortable and relaxing.

You know you have found the right place, if you hear a loud noise from across the street. Almost like a quacking sound. Don't worry, it's just an old and broken alert notification from the crosswalk haha 👍

Diner Review №189

Best pad Thai ever! I’ve had pad Thai from many restaurants but theirs is always my favorite.

We have eaten here a few times. And very good every time. The Garlic and Pepper Vegetable with brown rice is my favorite. Loaded with lots of veggies. The cucumber carrot salad is also delicious. And it’s served in a martini glass!!🍸

Diner Review №199

Visiting from out of town don't go here. Apparently they don't need business. They aren't exactly reliable with their business hours. The hours on the door say they open at 4:30 pm. It's 5:00 pm and the door is locked. If you want Thai food try another place, they appear to be closed.
