Great hidden gem! I really enjoy their laotian cuisine, particularly the sausage. I would order it to share with the table next time. Also, this place is BYOB which always is a plus. I've been back a few times and am looking forward to trying more of their dishes.
Delicious Drunken Noodles, very flavorful! The shrimp Pad Thai was similarly good. Wonderful service, but the place was practically empty (I heard they do mostly deliveries on weeknights).
Delicious food! Good prices (they're all about $2 higher than the pics of the menu posted here a year ago). Great service - very friendly and attentive; they kept refilling our waters after we overestimated our spice tolerance and ordered a dish that was too spicy for us (and we have a pretty high spice tolerance so they're keeping it real)! Very cute interior.
Best phocking pho I've ever had. Also really superb mango sticky rice. Gf and I dined in tonight and the lady who served us was really down to Earth and nice.
We went to Ban Bamboo for dinner and had a mediocre experience. We had the fried tofu appetizer, which was the standard, flavorless frozen tofu triangles. Would not get again. For my main, I had green curry, which was the consistency of soup. I have never had a curry that was so thin. My photo doesn’t do it justice… I wish I had taken a video. The flavor was pretty good but it was hard to enjoy after dumping rice in to try to get it to a consistency that I could eat. My husband had the spicy noodles, which I tried, and they had a nice flavor.
Food is amazing. Fresh ingredients, great flavors and large portions!

Nam Kao is excellent also Kao pierk sen (Chicken noodle soup) is delicious

I’ve ordered take out here before and I went in with my wife today to dine in. Everything we had was delicious!!
Great food and polite staff, but the prices are misleading. Multiple times I've ordered something and charged a different price. They always say "that's an old menu" I look online and in the store window and it's the same menu. The latest time the listed price was $22, and somehow I was charged $32. I asked if it was the correct price and they doubled down saying again, "the menu is wrong". I'm looking at the menu in the store window. Fix the menu or honor the price. Im asking in advanced next time, and not entertaining a 50% price increase.
My favorite Thai restaurant in the area. I love the chef in the back she is so nice and amazing.
This place has good food, plenty of vegan options if that's your thing, and no pretentious attitude.
Been here a bunch of times already, will definitely be back a bunch more.
For years I lived two blocks from this place and relied on its DELICIOUS food to get me through late nights as a graduate student.
This is a family-run joint and the Thai food here is INCREDIBLE for the price and considering how peripheral the location is (vs. downtown Philly). I have lived in NYC, Bay Area, D.C., Boston, Providence RI, and I have NEVER experienced a depth of flavor and consistency like I did at Ban Bamboo. I felt so blessed that I was literally steps away from THE BEST take-out Thai I've ever had. People whine about service/wait times -- that's what happens when you're the only spot for miles serving delicious Thai food! These are working people and they deserve even more business than they get. I almost tried to bribe the cook to share some recipes before I moved away -- IT'S THAT GOOD. Stop reading this review and order from Ban Bamboo!
Will customize dishes to your request. Server was friendly, attentive and helpful. Asked for spice for the Kao Sao- so flavorful and perfect. Shrimp spring rolls and sauce with it was delicious! We will be back again soon!
Don't think I would come here again. I ordered the fried tofu which had the texture of burnt toast and had no flavor. The coconut soup was very salty. The waiter also had a bit of an attitude.
The food and service were excellent. Appeared to be a family owned and operated business and that's just an added bonus as we like to support local establishments when we can. It was a little overly busy visually and would benefit from a more flowing feng shui but otherwise it was a very pleasant dinner outing.
Best Pad Thai I’ve had in Philly hands down. I’d almost given up trying to find an authentic one until I found this while in the wall.
OMG ! Curry was amazing and this beef dish I forget what it's called but wow, can't wait to go back, AMAZING. Don't sleep on this place.
The worst curry ever. It was watery.
So far so-so. Might return to try again. Walked in at 8:15p on a Saturday. Was told they wouldn’t seat me because they were closing at 9p. So really they close at 8p.
The pad thai has the perfect amount of flavorful, delicious sauce in it and the crab Rangoon is some of the flakiest, crunchest and well filled I've ever had. Very reasonably priced for the amazing quality of food and although I didn't eat inside, I stopped to pick up my food and it is super cute in there!
I was gravely disrespected by the owner once I called them immediately after I found this in my spicy Basil rice. I was hung up on multiple times, and then asked to bring my food all the way back in order to get my money refunded. Once I was there I was chastised and accused of lying. Was told my business was unwanted, even though I respectfully was accommodating, even after I was the one inconvenienced. Been a customer for years. The owner yelled at me saying that I have never been there before like that has anything to do with conducting your business properly in front of several people waiting.
Best take out Thai food in Manayunk/Roxborough. We’ve tried many dishes on the menu. Our go-to is Tom yum(very rich flavor) drunken noodles (I always get beef -it’s very good) and coconut curry. Great portions, good to share. I also like how they add lots of veggies to their dishes. It really helps with my vegetable intake! The lady who cooks is really nice and always smiles when I come to pick up my food. Everything tastes fresh and homemade.
Disclaimer: I really like thai food
While the space and service was good, my khao soi came out simultaeneousely too bland and too much curry powder flavor. The veggies didnt mix well with the broth. I tried to wolf it down but had to give up in the middle of it. I ended up having to go next door to get a $2 dollar hotdog with sauerkraut and mustard, which hit the spot.
The fried stuff was safe bet to go, but the spring rolls tasted suspisciousely like ones ive had at costco before.
Also there menu and prices are vastly different on the internet, and felt overpriced, for what it was. This and the same items appear multiple times on yhe menu at different prices, and they told us the menu was outdated when orders came out without everything that was on the menu.
You could do better with a $50 friday night meal
Should have been 5 stars - food is tremendous and the portions very generous - but the dishonesty is upsetting. I walked in and picked up a take-out menu from a stack of newly printed menus. Above the stack was a sign indicating that prices had gone up 20%. "Okay," I thought, "that makes sense, they've raised their prices and are letting customers know." Nope, it ACTUALLY meant was that the prices on the takeout menus are ALL inaccurate and the customer needs to do the mental math to add 20% to each and every list price.
So, the takeout menu prices that they are handing out are lies. Total lack of transparency, very deceiving. If they won't spend a couple hundred dollars to reprint their takeout menus, just don't hand them out! It's false advertising. Unbelievable.
This is my absolute favorite Thai restaurant. The pad thai and wontons are delicious(chefs kiss)
Everything was delicious and fresh. Best crab rangoon I've ever had. Definitely homemade. Laos sausage was unusual and fantastic. Friendly service.
The food is really good, but service sucked! It was a really long wait for the food to be ready. Was very Hangry!
We’ve had better. I won’t say it was bad, but it also wasn’t something we’d want to repeat. Notably, both the Pad Thai and Thai Basil Fried Rice were needlessly overly spicy—to the point that both dishes had a red tint. Just the color itself was enough to be a turnoff. This may be desirable for some—just not us.
first time getting food from here. i got shrimp drunken noodles and steamed chicken dumplings. the drunken noodles were spicy, flavorful and delicious. the steamed chicken dumplings were ehh, pretty bland but the sweet chili sauce made up for that. overall i really enjoyed my food, i would try some of their other items.
The food at Ban Bamboo is great! I like the Drunken Noodles, Pad Thai, and Spicy Basil Rice. Highly recommended.
Food is good, but it’s annoying that every single time I come in here they do not have the food ready. They don’t even start cooking it until you get here.
The food was amazing. Ordered chicken green chili spicy and fried dumplings. The green chili sauce was so tasty and the vegetables were very fresh. Dumplings were crispy. I went in while they were really busy and they got my carry out order done quickly. I will definitely be going back. Give this place a try if you want quality Thai food. Great people’s restaurant.
Terrible first experience at this place. They quoted me 30 minutes wait time for takeout and it ended up taking an hour to get food. My fiancé waited 30 minutes in the restaurant and we only ordered 2 noodle dishes. It was clear they had not even started cooking our food until her got there. Completely unacceptable. They ruined my Sunday night. Strongly urge you to save your time and go to the many other Thai restaurants in the area.

Took over an hour to get an order of Pad Thai, and I then had to wait in the restaurant for a half hour just to get it after showing up when I was told it’s ready.
I ordered their Crab Fried Rice once a month when I lived nearby.
Outstanding food. Everything tastes amazing. The pad thai is the most authentic I've had in Philly. The Tom Kha is actually aromatic. I've had a number of other dishes and they're all fantastic, you can't go wrong. The host (?) is also very nice and the interior is pretty.
Love the basil fried rice from this place
Ban Bamboo definitely deserves 5 starts. Very authentic and their pad thai is one of the best I’ve had in philly so far
this is hands down the best Thai food in Manayunk and possibly even Philly! we order food from here almost every week because it’s just that good. we’ve tried a couple of things now and everything has been so delicious. our favorites so far have been the thai fried rice, pad thai, and drunken noodles. the portions are great and the flavors even better. sometimes the wait can be a little long but you can tell they make everything fresh with high quality ingredients so it’s worth it.
Called an order in for pickup and was told it would take an hour to get ready. We weren't in a rush so we were fine with that. Get to the restaurant shortly after the hour time (we arrived probably 75 minutes after we called) and was told our food would be another 30-45 minutes. If you can't handle orders, stop taking them. We ended up walking out and ordering elsewhere that had our food ready much quicker.
EXCELLENT FOOD but GrubHub stinks. Last night's PICK UP order was originally scheduled for 8:05 -8:15 and then they changed it to 8:10 - 8:20 but it was ready at 7:55. This is unacceptable for pick up and is 25 early!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Food was cold by the time we got there. And it was NOT the restaurant's fault!
The food was wonderful - even cold. Thai Basil Chicken, Pork Larb, Wonton's, spring rolls, and soup are all excellent!
This review would be 5 stars if not for GrubHub and the plastic and styrofoam containers they use. Next time I'll call them directly and I would love it if they would go back to using regular old Chinese food boxes.
This place is an absolute hidden gem. Staff is super friendly and the food is unreal
Best Thai food I’ve ever had. And great customer service.
I have tried many Thai/Laos restaurants around my area and even out of my area and it's been so.. long since I found a place that makes amazing drunken noodles. Wish it was more spicier but still so.. good. Mango sticky rice is also a must try.
Service and food were outstanding. Pad Thai, spring rolls, shrimp rolls, and chicken dumplings were incredible, and the wonton soup was by far the best I’ve had in my life. I look forward to going back as soon as I can and bringing my friends and family.
Amazing food & amazing service from the young man who was our waiter. Cute decorations in the dining area. Will definitely be returning!
Really good food and awesome staff!! I’ve been multiple times and highly recommend !!!
One of my favorite Asian food spots in the city. Friendly family vibe. Great Lao food. Fresh spring rolls are on point. Cucumbers for the Larb came from the owners garden.
Absolutely delicious and definitely authentic! I love the sausage and nam Khao. I 💘 how they are not stingy with their plate of food unlike another Laotian restaurant i went to prior to finding this gem of a place!
Their curry chicken dumplings are amazing. Pineapple fried rice is an excellent dish. Best place for authentic Thai food in NW Philadelphia.
WOW. WOW. WOW.
Ban Bamboo is the BEST thai food restaurant you will find in Philadelphia. The flavor and bright color of the food, the exotic decor and friendly service won my 5 stars review.
My boyfriend and I were in the neighborhood and we walked in around 8:30, hoping to get a takeout order as the sign showed they close at 9. Soon as we walked in, we were greeted with appetizing aroma from the kitchen. The server offered us a menu with pictures to help with our decision making (everything on the menu looks so good!)
We ended up ordering
1. Tom Yum Soup w/ Vegetables $4.95
7. Fried Wonton $5.95
53. Som Tum Gai Yang $17.95
29. Pad Thai w/ Shrimp $15.95
The server was so kind and patient. He took his time to explain the difference between Thai and Laos papaya salad, which comes in Som Tum Gai Yang. ( T is milder and L is spicier w/ more fish sauce taste) He mentioned that the BOH staff only eat what they cook, so their food is just as authentic as what you’ll find in their kitchen. (the spiciness is also the same as how they like it)
What came to my surprise was, even though they were closing in 15 mins, the server still asked if we’d like to dine in! He checked with the kitchen staff and they had no problem with us staying after closing time. (We did takeout anyway)
Needless to say, the food was AMAZING! Soup had a nice balance of sourness and spiciness. Fried wonton was golden and crispy ( they cut out 2 holes on the takeout box so it didn’t turn soggy) Som Tum Gai Yang came with a bag of sticky rice, well seasoned roasted chicken and a big portion of papaya salad. Shrimp Pad Thai was delicious and enough for two!
I can’t wait to go back for dine in and i’d 100% recommend this place for anyone who’s a fan of flavor!
Amazing food! Everything was incredibly flavorful and fresh. Will surely order from here again.
Absolutely fire. Try new things here - a lot of unique flavors they do really well.
Great food
Very happy to have found this place. Enjoying exploring the bold spiciness and fresh flavors of dishes. Friendly and courteous staff as well!
eat here all the time—super quick, great service, kind staff, and incredible food
First visit last night but we'll be back. Large reasonably priced selections . Had excellent soup and Thai noodle dish. Setting interesting and well lit. Service excellent from Adam.
I was happy to find this place in Roxborough! Decent prices and really savory food. Quick and friendly service too. I came in December so it was a tad cold inside.
The food was amazing. The service was very accommodating and the atmosphere was charming. Great first date place.
Food is authentic and delicious! Service makes you feel like family!
Super good, authentic and friendly staff. Fresh made. I wish the vegan gluten veggies only reviewers would stop dragging down ban bamboos overall rating with your complaining. Order from the menu the way they have it listed and you will love the dish they create!!!
My Ex-GF and I, used to visit friends in Manayunk 3-5 times a year, all of us are foodies, we would stay for extended weekends and eat at several good Philly spots. However, we would often eat at Ban Bamboo, twice during a holiday weekend!! This place is GREAT for dine in or carry out!! If you are looking for great Thai/ Laotian food, this is worth checking out!!
Great food. Nice people
Great Thai Food and super nice staff. They recommended if you're going to do takeout, call them directly rather than Grubhub. Will be doing that!
They did not pay attention to our order and forgot to make one of our items. One of the orders was to be made vegan and we called them to ensure they made the meal correctly but they still placed egg in the food. Note that their pad Thai is spicy and has little peanut flavor. They did cook the order and deliver it to us in 20 minutes. The sample sizes are large. But overall there was little attention to our order.
Very friendly staff and patrons too.
Food fresh tasty and reasonably priced
RIP off
Good food.
Ordered thru Caviar, which went quite well. Unfortunately the food was not the best and we received the wrong appetizer.
Agree with the last reviewer... red curry was quite thin/watery, lacking flavour. Drunken noodles were so spicy my family could hardly eat them (we ordered two of these at $18/piece so it was an extra bummer to toss so much food). Ordered fresh summer rolls but received deep fried spring rolls instead. The one thing enjoyed was the chicken skewers -- my parents thought those were quite good.
Excellent food and authentic flavors, the owners and staff are very attentive without being intrusive, I highly recommend the restaurant to anyone who enjoys the taste of the Thai, loas, Cambodian regional foods.
some of the best drunken noodle I've had. I am a food critic.
Giving it only 2 stars. The food was not bad but the curry with the massaman curry was like water. I hope they improve and stick around for awhile.
Got their red curry with chicken and jasmine rice. It was all on point and the Thai Teas are also tasty!
