Bento boxes & specialty rolls are on the menu at this snug Japanese BYOB pick with delivery service.
Fresh sushi rolls, unlike I've barely seen before. Reason, the rolls served at Yellowtail are so small, you could miss one of the six slices in one roll. A positive, if you indicate gluten free on your order, they'll provide Tamari sauce. I didn't read reviews prior. But, I was curious why they were average. The overall opinion online is accurate, but, apparently, in an overinflated marketplace, the owners chose to differentiate for all the wrong reasons. I hope they reevaluate- a little more rice goes a long way at a negligible cost.
I ordered the Philly roll, salmon roll, and tuna roll. Portions of fish in the rolls were decent. Some a little better than others. The Chinese pizza/scallion pancake is tasty but on the crunchier side. The miso soup was good but mostly broth, not a lot of tofu. Would order again.
Finally stopped in here tipsy on my walk home since it’s right around the corner and I was very pleased. I got a specialty firecracker roll and the pan fried pork dumplings. Very good. Sushi was very yummy….. I’ll be back for sure. Service was very fast and good. Picked up on the spot no problem. Took maybe 8 min to wait. Easy. The employees were so kind. Love places like this in this beautiful neighborhood. Thank you!
This sushi was horrific. I feel terrible writing a bad review, because the person who served me was kind and the small restaurant was cute, but this was everything you fear in sushi. The fish was not fresh - one of the fish was spoiled. The ginger was brown. The wasabi was kelly green. The sushi rice was hard. The avocado was over the hill. The tempura inside the sushi had no flavor and was not crunchy. I tried this place because it was a little pricier than my usual place but the quality was worse. I was pretty disappointed.
I have been ordering take-out for years from Yellowtail. But this was the first time I went there for lunch. And they don't disappoint. Really good food. A little pricey but worth it. Presentation was beautiful like art work. The chicken appetizer was delicious and the main course was outstanding. On a side note, you do have to bring your own alcohol, but that is a small issue.
Parking is horrible in Center City Philadelphia, thankfully Yellowtail delivers. A+

this place is really good!, more ppl should eat here
People are too slow here
By far the worst sushi I have ever had in my life and the pad Thai just tasted like burn noodles and dry. TERRIBLE.

I ordered the volcano roll and within a couple hours I was projectile vomiting. In the past, friends have said the sushi from here has hurt their stomachs and today I most certainly agree. When you google search some of the rolls, what you get isn’t necessarily what you paid for. The quality of sushi is poor and I recommend trying somewhere else.
I ate at this restaurant for three years, the ingredients are so fresh, me and my family love to come here to pack sushi, there are many sushi restaurants nearby, I will continue to support this restaurant. The people here are very welcoming.
我点了三文鱼卷,三文鱼刺身,非常新鲜,量又多。老板娘很好说话,服务态度很好,下次还会再来。
It feels just like the quality of the food. Old, questionable, and below average. Luckily our server was kind because that’s the only reason we stayed. I knew when I stepped in that it’d be bad and I should have listened to my intuition. My aunt, sister, and I instantly felt queasy after eating here. The seafood was terrible quality, the chicken was flavorless and hard. Don’t go, honestly. Don’t. I don’t know how they mustered 4 stars.
They are super fast and very good. They also have a lot of sharing options so it’s good for group orders
Everything is delicious, wonderful sushi,it’s good plan
Very good,i like, and people very nice.
Order online for my friends they said food was delicious!

This is one of those hidden gems in Philly. It is not fancy at all -- they only have 4 or 5 tables; they do mostly takeout and delivery I think -- but the food is always amazing. The fish is super fresh and the rice is soft and flavorful.
food is delicious
very good dining experience
This appeared to be a great Japanese restaurant. They have a wide variety of hot and cold appetizers and entrees. The space is fairly modern, and the service was good.
I’m a sushi lover, this is my third time here. The food is very good. The people are very nice and friendly with good service. I do recommend and would definitely go again next time. :D thumbs up! Thank you.
got the sashimi appetizer and sushi was so. fresh. hidden gem!!!!!! dined in and really don't know why more people aren't here. will be ordering take out from this place from here on out because they deserve all the business they can get!!!!
Update: since changing ownership… quality and service has taken a significant dive… not the same fresh/quality sushi nor do they have the same attentive care it once showed… It will be a while till we go back… give them sometime to find their footing… I am always willing to give a place a second chance… but they have some big shoes to fill from they way it was with previous owners.
One of the best places in town to get sushi that is also a BYOB.... Highly recommended for fresh and quality food and amazing service... Very friendly and attentive
Cannot vouch for Sushi and Sashimi, but their udon soup was good. Must be a popular place for takeout and delivery services, judging by the frequency of walk-ins.
Large quantity, great price and tasty food!
Will definitely come back again!
It was Labor Day, but delivery took 1 hr and 50 minutes. We called twice and were told 5-10 minutes.

Good quality especially for the price. Definitely will be a future vibe!
I love coming to yellowtail. I’ve lived in the neighbourhood for 3 years and have been a loyal customer since. I come here like once a week for their lunch special. Very affordable and high quality. The staff is extremely kind and helpful. They are super quick with takeout orders as well. A gem in the neighbourhood!
Awesome place, been ordering at least once a week for almost a year now. Bento boxes for lunch are really great and filling. The sushi and thai menus are both really good which makes it hard to decide what to get
We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 specialty rolls, waiting an hour for delivery. When the order was delivered it only included 2 standard rolls, and nothing from our larger order. When I called the restaurant they seemed to know what incorrect order we got, but were un apologetic and only offered waiting another hour for a full new order as an option.
We’ve lived in this neighborhood for 4 years and for some reason, we never tried Yellowtail. Tonight, we finally gave it a try. Everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. It’s honestly the best sushi we’ve had in a long time. My wife and I rated it after we ate and both gave near perfect scores. We’ll definitely come back. Thank you for a wonderful meal Yellowtail.
If they tell you 15 minutes they are absolutely lying to your face and it will take at least an hour.
I ordered the sushi roll and it was good at first . They roll the sushi very tight at first which is what a like I hate sushi rolls when they open up. Then the next time they didn't roll it up good so I'm guessing there not consistent.
My housemate and I love the food from here and the staff is very efficient.
Always a pleasure going to this establishment and also a breeze ordering over the phone.
Good takeout service, but the sushi was a bit bland.
We keep on going back to Yellowtail for delivery because we enjoy their food, but they have failed us time and time again with it comes to delivery, follow-through, and customer service. The first time was during NYE when waited for 3 hours for our food. When we finally got a hold of someone they said that they were working on our order, but another hour passed and they apparently were closed now when I called. We paid for and never receive our food. Now again tonight, it has been two hours and when we tried calling their phone line seemed to be out of service or was busy. It stated that they were open during the pandemic, but we have not gotten anything yet. After giving them another chance, we, unfortunately, will now find another place to order sushi in the future.
EDIT: our food did arrive about 2 hours after it was set to be delivered from Yellowtail. I'll boost it up a star rating.
The freshest sashimi!!
There was a BONE in my sushi. The fish was very smelly probably because it was old. I also got food poisoning for 2 days afterward.
Tiny cute good food and the server was nice :))
A lovely little place. Very fresh, quality sushi. Nice staff. Cozy atmosphere.
They have the best sushi in the city.
Delivery took over an hour and a half, mediocre food.
My favorite sushi place! Great for a casual byob or take out.
Excellent sushi and sashimi I got the sushi and sashimi Vento lunch box
A quiet like sushi place. I went there as a first date. The food is wonderful. They have a la carte options as well as normal sushi rolls and hand rolls! It's been a long time since I found a place that has hand rolls. Service was great!
Definitely recommend.
I'm not sure this deserves to have two dollar symbols- the prices of the basic rolls are $4.50 to $6. For sushi, that's a descent price. The place is clean and the food is good. It is presently our go-to sushi supply.
the sushi is amazing here 🔥😍
Always a favorite neighborhood spot to hit up!
Came for lunch and had a special roll. It was delicious! I got the salmon bento box lunch special. The fish was a little overcooked but overall, very good and food came out fast.
I've been getting sushi here for four years. At one point, the hostess knew my sister and I by name because we ordered sushi so often. There's several sushi places in the area and all of them are pretty good, but I always end at Yellowtail eventually. Tasty, fresh, and the lunch special is perfect.
Great place for a date, or casual get together.
Excellent
One of the best Japanese restaurant experiences I've had in Philly...and I've had many!
Great sushi and a nice atmosphere, always enjoy dinner at Yellowtail!
Kind staff and delicious food. I got the sushi/sashimi combo and it was terrific. The white tuna is off the charts!
Good sushi
Consistently good sushi, I take out there and have dined in multiple times over a two year time. Really like their lobster-containing sushi
Great cuisine
Love the Thai curry
Pitiful excuse for sushi. Ordered the Three Rolls Special, which came two hours late, and had the consistency and flavour of oatmeal. Rice was massively overcooked and honestly couldn't tell if there was fresh fish inside them or not. Wasabi has a sickly mint-green colour to it that means it is not fresh and possibly not even real wasabi. Will never order here again.
One of the two best sushi places in the city.
I love sushi. Cute place with good food. Great BYO.
Five-star food and service. Decent prices for substantial servings. A very small space, with somewhat limited selection. BYOB.
Excellent service, professional staff, prompt delivery, delicious food! Highly recommend.
Their tuna pizza is delizioso!! Whenever I have time, I go out of my way to get one to go, sometimes 2. Very fresh. Textures and sauces all blend perfect.
Great little hole in the wall to sit down & eat quietly in the middle of a bustling city. I discovered them by accident & keep coming back for the mackerel.
Not too busy, good sushi and fast service

Thanks for the mail spam on a Sunday morning
Continue to get flyers that litter the neighborhood
Yellowtail is definitely one of my favorite sushi spots in the Gayborhood! Housed in a small, yet centrally located space between 12th and 13th on Pine, the staff is welcoming, friendly, and prompt to greet anyone who walks in. They have all my standard favorites, including the Philadelphia Roll (salmon and cream cheese) and the sweet potato roll, but my favorite specialty roll is the Christmas Roll (tuna, salmon, and yellowtail wrapped in green soy paper and topped with tobiko (tiny fish eggs)). Prices are reasonable too; standard rolls start around $3.50 and special rolls start around $9. I highly recommend Yellowtail to anyone looking for great sushi and I will continue to keep patronizing them!
By far the best sushi I have ever had the only downside would be the small size of the restaurant
Great
I ordered from here and had to throw most of it away. The shumai had chunks of gristly fat in it that had to be spit out and the extreme role is very greasy and was drowned in sauce, so all of that got thrown out. The dynamite roll had very mediocre spicy crunchy tuna but was also completely drowned in sauce so I had to scrape off the drenched avocado on top and could stomach the rolls. The crunch in these also tasted really greasy. Horrible sushi experience.
Nice place, good food and best people.
This is an average place to get sushi. The problem, however, is that this is not some middle-sized town in Harrisburg or Scranton. It is located in Philadelphia, and that caused me to expect a little more from this establishment. Still, the prices were fair, the food was decent, and the staff were attentive. A solid option if nothing else is available.
Good food for reasonable prices. What is not to like!
Good, consistent food. Have only ever ordered delivery or pick up here. The chicken katsu is my favorite on the menu and is done better than anywhere else I've tried. In fact, now I'm going to order some...
Horrible service, mediocre sushi! Wish I could say better luck next time, but we won't be back.
Fantastic sushi, some of the best I've had, large portions for each roll, very reasonably priced and best of all it is byob. Found our favorite sushi place.
Good service, great sushi! This little spot will fool you. It packs BIG flavor. Its inexpensive, but the quality of the food would cost you double if it werent in such a small space. Service is great and they even make custom rolls if u ask!
Update 7/30 this place does not disappoint. Tried the pad thai yesterday and I was so tasty I had to log in to google to amend my review! Good job yellowtail!
