locally owned homey Thai restaurant in PDX. We are serving authentic Thai food which you can have only in Thailand.
Very cool Thai place. The place makes you feel like you are home. Great customer service as soon as you enter. If the weather permits eat out on the deck. Comfortable seating. I ordered the wings and I gotta say it was great. Nice lite crisp to it with some honey on there. I usually don't put sauce on my wings, but I had to try it and I gotta say it added some more flavor to the wings. Definitely would order again and visit this place again.
I go there quite frequently and I love the food there! The vibes there are very nice and I usually sit outside because the lights and 23rd in the evening is very nice. I usually get BBQ chicken and Thai tea, that combo for me is the best! Overall I love this restaurant and definitely recommend you to stop by if you have time 9.2/10! Going back to the vibes : The staff is very nice and I always feel so comfortable there!

Dining on the patio, surrounded by the refreshing negative ions from the giant trees, is always such a pleasant and comfortable experience. My friends, my spouse, and I have come here many times. We enjoyed a relaxing time with the Seafood Mix with Vegetables ($19.50) and Pad Kee Mao ($14.50), paired with Evolution Red Blend Wine ($9)🍷 and Thai Iced Tea ($4.50). The food was elegant and delicious.😊✨
Meal here was delicious! Went as a group of 3 and each of us loved our food choices: Pad Thai, Yellow Curry, and Drunken Noodle. Really fair pricing, quick and friendly service, and pretty fair pricing. I’d happily get Thai here again! There’s also a nice covered patio for warmer days or with a jacket. Pro tip: there’s a small parking lot in the back of the building with a few spots reserved for Tara Thai.
I love this place!! My first stop whenever I’m in town. I told the woman working that I would wait in my car for my order and she brought it out to my CAR within less than 10 minutes!!! So kind and thoughtful even though there was no expectation for her to do such a thing. Highly HIGHLY recommend coming here!!!!
My favorite Thai restaurant. I work nearby so I get it often and it’s amazing every single time! Staff is very nice and attentive.

Absolutely delicious.
Amazing food and great service. I had the Panang Ped Yang and it was worth every penny. Every single bite left me with a smile. The staff is very friendly, attentive and accommodating. Will come here again.
There peanut sauce is to die for. Fresh vegetables and big shrimp. So worth the money. I drive from beavercreek just to eat here. Singapore noodles and shrimp are wonderful also.
Delicious khao soi and pad see ew!
The panang curry was decent. Nice art
Support lions, tigers, and elephants. There are only 5,000 tigers left in the wild. They are used in entertainment slavery in the US, China, and around the world.
Similar issues affect lions and elephants. Animals deserve to be free in the wild.
Love this place and now they have a tent! We sat outside with our dog this weekend. Food is always yummy whenever we have gone to eat and had the chance. Go and give them some love! ❤️
Most things on the menu can be made vegan, just ask ahead of time.
I'll note the very beautiful and venerable giant White Oak, which is a fantastic accent to accompany a very good Thai meal.
Great food! Eat outside under the oak tree.
Tom kha was SUPERB! The patio is pretty cute and the staff are so nice. Definitely recommend to anyone looking to get dinner in the area

Delicious food and a great atmosphere

Delicious food. Fast and friendly service. Great atmosphere. Highly recommend.
Excellent deck for outdoor eating though! Service was excellent this day, sometimes not so friendly but I think our food service has always been very good.
Decent food, but some odd choices. A bit strange to find cabbage and cherry tomatoes in Tom Yum, and the Pad See Ew was a bit bland. I like the location and atmosphere tho!
Warning: This place waters down their Pad Thai with tofu, chopping it up to mimic chicken while including only a few slices of actual meat. The dish lacks vegetables, with only a few scattered pieces. I’m extremely disappointed, especially since I’ve dined here before. This practice feels misleading, as tofu is not traditionally used in Pad Thai. I won’t be returning, as I’m concerned about other possible shortcuts. I hope the management reassesses their approach, as this is misleading at best.
This place is a great spot to check out! The food was amazing and the service was accommodating. Everything we ordered tasted fresh, and came out quickly. I can’t wait to come back!

Nice patio, the curry was average at best though.
Middle of the road Thai food
Such a pity. This has been one of my favorite places for years. Unfortunately, the table arrangement is physically uncomfortable with people facing you as you eat and the service has declined
After trying mid and weird fusion Thai up the street from here, we immediately went to Tara Thai to cleanse our palettes. Of all the Thai food I’ve had, this is one of my favorites in the PNW.
One of my favorite Thai spots ever. The food is excellent, quickly delivered or served, and the menu is lovely.
My favorite restaurant on 23rd. I got the drunken noodles and they were spicy and flavorful without being too oily. The meat was well cooked and the veggies were crisp and juicy. Quantity was good too.
The ambience is pleasant and the price is reasonable. If you live nearby please support this place!
I love That food and this place has wonderful food. It is always a.pleasure to eat there. Service is fast and they give you plenty to eat. I highly recommend this place.
Super mid, the banh mi and lemon grass chicken was good but the curry is horrible. The price of everything isn’t worth it.
I go here once a week since I work very close by. Great food and great service.
Khoa soi was amazing!!
We didn’t know anything, just passing through, and we found Tara Thai on the internet. We got take-out and took it back to our hotel. We were totally delighted with the flavor and quality of the food, and the staff was very nice! Thank you!

Easily the best Thai spot in Portland and not many people seem to know about it. I highly recommend the pumpkin curry dish. The patio is great too when the weather is nicer.
Great place! We got the green curry and the pad see ew. Really large portions and both with great flavors! Would definitely come back again
Great Thai Food
Old staple of a NW Thai restaurant, but as good as ever!
Great neighborhood restaurant! It could be time to give the inside a refresh to make it just as cool as sitting outdoors under the beautiful white oak tree.
The food is reliably excellent, always!
Unbelievably fresh food, manager Pat is outstanding. Good fair prices. Will definitely be back. This is our new favorite place.
Really enjoy my meal over at Tara Thai. We came in a bit late on a Saturday and they were still able to seat us on the patio which was fantastic. Patio has a beautiful atmosphere and is perfect for a warm evening.
The food came out fast and provided substantial portions! We wound up with yellow curry and the pad see ew which were both delicious. Would definitely recommend going back and this is as this is a great local spot!
My favorite Thai place in Portland, the staff is friendly, they have outdoor seating which I love, and the food is great. I highly recommend the Mekong Sausage and the Pumpkin Curry.
Only have had the Thai ice tea, it's cheaper than other places and it taste great.
Update: got food and it was yummy!
A lovely evening to sit outside. The food was excellent and we will definitely return when we are in Portland.
Always great food made even better sitting outside under the giant oak tree.
It was my first time going although my nose has told me to go in many many times. The staff was so friendly and the fooood??? Wow, flavors and quality of ingredients were so excellent and portions are amazing. I want to go back and try something new every time.
I’ve eaten here many times. It seems that they have a new menu. Today the portions were tiny. We were given the tiniest amount of food and even smaller amount of rice and charged $2.50 for some peanut sauce. Ouch.
I used to come here every single week and get the rainforest fried rice with all the spice they could put on it. And they obliged me - they turned that dish into the kind of spice bomb I craved.
I live all the way across town now but whenever I'm in the area I get some, because it's incredible. Get yourself some too.
Amazing patio, friendly staff, tasty food. We always get the pad Thai and cashew chicken.
Went with a large group, very easy to make reservations. Friendly and helpful staff with great customer service skills. The main dishes are plenty and the sides are good. I was warned that spicy would be SPICY but I found it to be rather heatless. That being said the food was still delicious!
Amazing food and great service 🤙🏼
Great food at an old house in NW Portland. The shaded deck outside is great in nice weather.
Outdoor patio was lovely, food was delicious and they serve generous portion sizes.
So good I went two nights back to back with a friend.
The food is so gooddddd ☺️, drunken noodles and papaya salad are so delicioussssss , must tryyyyy. Tom kha is pretty good , just too much coconut cream for me but still really good. Pad thai is a but sweet for me , still gooddd , my bf loves it . The price is cheap not expensive but high quality
Beautiful shaded outdoor seating. Food was good.
Not bad. Got the pad kee mao. Wish there was more gravy and the bell peppers were cooked for longer.
Heads up, you’re not allowed to eat on the patio when it’s open if you order to go.
A go-to spot in NW for that lazy weeknight when the soul wants some Thai and you want to be fulfilled. The house fried rice and cashew chicken story dry are my favorites. Always dependable.
The food was fast and Delicious. The only reason why 4 stars instead of 5 was. That the Drunken Noodle which is a standard for Thai, could have had just a touch more sauce.. but it was still very good. The Thai tea w/lime juice was addictive. The service was great. One of the best in Portland.
Great food, nice outdoor patio
DE-licious! Had the Pad Tai and Mahi salad. Mango was perfectly ripe and the vinaigrette was fantastic! Crab ragoons were homemade with real crab! 🤤Charming outdoor seating and friendly staff.
Will definitely be back.
Loved the pumpkin curry, drunken noodles and chicken satay. The patio is secured from the street.
The food is wonderful and good portion sizes. Very lovely building and they do a great job measuring the spiciness. I love a strong medium hot and they hit the point just right.
One of my favorite places to get Thai food! I love the location on 23rd St., it’s walkable and it’s got a great patio underneath a beautiful oak tree. Patio is usually heated in the winter! Been here many time, and the food and quality is always delicious. My favorite things to get are the curries and the soups, but the noodle dishes are incredible as well. They also have a cheeky little cocktail menu and good non-alcoholic drink suggestions.
Solid Thai place - curries, pad phet, salad rolls, and soup are always yummy, and the mango sticky rice is amazing. The people who work here are really nice too!
I make sure to have a weekly lunch at Tara Thai. No lie they are the best and I have had almost every Thai restaurant in Portland. Get the wings, you won't be disappointed!
Really great flavors, would love to go back for more. I got the Mekong river sausage, the pad ka praw with pork, and the mango sticky rice.
The sausage was delicious and really uniquely flavored. Very clearly Thai, and very well blended. The pad ka praw was really good especially with an egg. Just enough spice, a thin tasty sauce, and juicy ground meat. The mango sticky rice had fresh tasty mango. The rice was good too but not mind blowing. All in all wonderful experience and I can't wait to go back.
I just had to log in to write a review- I’ve never had to do this: Worst pad Thai I’ve ever had- ended to throwing it out. Wish I could get my money back.
Pros:
-patio
-cheap drinks
- wontons
Cons:
- food just okay (pad Thai and red curry)
- service was slow, drinks took longer than food.
Wasn’t bad, but probably won’t go back.
The pad see ew and pad thai is always a crowd pleaser!
Attentive
Awesome Thai in a Victorian home!
Regular customer. They take every opportunity to charge extra including on sauce despite giving you nothing to begin with on their most expensive items. Gave me this much sauce for over a pound of Thai barbecue chicken that costed 18 dollars. Only order here if you hate yourself and like being charged extra by greedy pigs.
They have the friendliest staff and one of my favorite preparations of Pad See Ew in Portland.
Had some of the best seafood Pad Thai in this cool little spot 🙂
We were so grateful that Tara Thai braved the weather on the night of the 2nd worst snow storm in Portland history, when EVERYone else closed. They were swamped yet the staff was friendly and efficient, working very hard! We left in a timely manner with delicious hot meals for 3 of us. Again, just let me say how grateful we were and always will be for them for coming through for us when we all needed it most! xo
This my Go To place in Portland, for Thai food - I'll drive many when I have to have a Thai meal.
Great Thai food. The steamed sea bass was amazingly delicious.
Great food
I have been here 5+ times and have never had a bad experience!
Pad thai was mediocre but portions are huge
Great Thai food. You get a lot of bang for your buck. The pad Thai was really delicious and flavorful. I’m knocking off a star because the crab Rangoons were very good. Just felt like a totally cream cheese bomb with no crab. Also, the sauce for them was lacking so there was just nothing to balance out the overwhelming cream cheese. I’d totally go back for other dishes, but not that again!
Fantastic food and great staff!
A welcoming little restaurant with quite tasty food!
Awesome restaurant with less common dishes and really nice friendly staff and heated and covered outdoor patio opened even in winter
Only street parking available.
Seating available inside and out.
Friendly staff that wore masks.
Quick service.
Chicken satay was the tenderest meat I have ever had.
Really delicious and fresh tasting peanut sauce.
Great food
Very good Thai!
I've been eating at least once a week for years, need I say more, okay I will..
The food is is always fresh and the wait staff " mainly Kiki,is fast and efficient and very friendly making for a very enjoyable atmosphere.
Tara Thai is not new but this is definitely a place that ages well. Spacious and welcoming place. The timeless menu features marvels such as thai soups, noodles, stir fries, curries, etc. Try the green curry, seriously, with chicken, medium spice and plain jasmine rice, it's packed with flavors from eggplants, bamboo shoots, bell pepper, basil, etc. My favorite of all times. Portions are generous: I usually order curry for pickup and for $12.95 I get enough to feed one hungry teenager (or two adults)
One of my favorite Thai food restaurants in the Portland area. The ultimate comfort food. I’m a big fan of the Tom Kha soup, pad kee mao, yellow curry, pumpkin curry, pad Thai with a side of peanut sauce poured on it, the sticky rice with mango. Mmmm it’s all good.
Lovely food, glad they can do gluten free so easily
First of all, this restaurant is located in a really nice area of Portland. I love the vibe of the setting, the remodeled Victorian home, which makes it a cozy place to be. They're also near a lot of great stores around which you can walk. More importantly, they have a great Thai menu. They have all the classics, and they also have their own unique creations. Their rainforest fried rice tastes excellent, especially when spiced! Service is nice too. I would love to come back here!
Very good Thai with a long menu containing delicious salads, noodles, curries, and, maybe less commonly, awesome cocktails. Ordered close to a dozen different dishes for 5 (between appetizers & mains, all served family-style) and every single one was outstanding! Dog-friendly patio has plenty of shade & service is friendly & attentive.
Exquisite food, extensive menu to choose from, squid, such, and Laotian soup were delicious. The ambiance and patio are very nice too. Prices are moderate
one of my favorite thai restaurants, the waiters are helpful and kind and the food is delicious. the fried coconut shrimp is my favorite appetizer for sure. plus the atmosphere inside the restaurant is so lovely
Very good food, excellent service especially taking the short staffing into account. Outside seating was very good with only minimal issue with street noise. Overall very good experience
I’ve gone here for a while and I’ve had such great repeated experiences with them when ordering take out! Friendly staff and always super quick. The food is delicious too!!
Solid Thai place. Wonderful food and patio.
A really lovely place - highly recommend. The patio is indeed lovely; I was able to sit in its shade which was wonderfully cool on a hot July day. The menu was fresh and everything came promptly and was delicious. I was also lucky enough to get one of their whole fresh coconuts! I drank my juice with my meal to cool down, and then ate the meat as a dessert.
The place overall was clean, there is a small parking lot behind, and the staff was delightful and friendly. Really a 5 star experience.
The food was to die for. Absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced for being in such an expensive and happening area. Also, they have Thai tea.
Absolutely delicious food, friendly and quick service + a unique and cozy location.
We had the Coconut soup with chicken - pretty good, I’ve had better but it was good, the papaya salad - not spicy and a little plain but good, bbq chicken - normal, and the duck plate - sauce was amazing and that dish was pretty great.
The metal tables outside have those holes in them so it’s hard not to spill anything and get it on your pants. The people were pleasant. The price was average.
I’m not sure I would go out of my way to go there again but it was worth a dinner if you’re in the area.
Great service food is always fantastic
This restaurant is in the building where Paley‘s place had been for the 30 years I’ve lived in Portland. At Paley’s you could always expect a great continental-themed meal, great service, and a lovely evening.
Of course, that has nothing to do with the new restaurant. Tara Thai Northwest is your standard high-end Thai food restaurant. Nothing special, and nothing interesting about the dishes to set it apart from any other Thai restaurant you’ve been to, but a lovely building, pretty good service, and standard Americanized Thai food meals well executed.
Nothing to go out of your way for, but not a bad place to have some Pad Kee Mao or a nice curry.
Best thai food either of us have had. We were excited by the good reviews, but were worried we wouldn't get the same experience ordering takeout. Not the case!! Food was fresh and delicious, and the portions were plentiful even ordering to-go! Pictured are the drunken noodles, fried rice, pad thai, crab rangoons, and spring rolls. The second highest spice option was spicy but not just hot, full of flavor too. The shape of the crab rangoons lends itself to a higher cream cheese ratio—food for thought for those who mind, but very delicious. And wonderful service! Cannot recommend it enough!
Tara Thai is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in town. The staff are absolutely sweet and accommodating and kind. I went with family who are vegetarian and the lovely staff member that helped us made sure that they were given vegan sauces and food was completely fish sauce and egg free for them. She was absolutely the sweetest, I wish I could've given her a hug! Super nice ambience, too, and their food is consistently amazing.
I had the Pad Ka Praw, with ground chicken and fried egg at the Hot level. It had pleasant warmth and heat to it. Super delicious! The fried egg is an extra few cents but worth it!
I always get the Thai fried rice, it is my absolute favorite. Great portion and flavor!
It was my first time trying this place and the food was excellent, came out relatively quickly, and the price wasn’t so bad. Great customer service as well, the servers were super friendly and polite.
Delicious food and the most friendly staff! Loved the outdoor area with the lovely heaters too. The only reason it’s 4/5 stars is because the service was so quick it almost felt like we were being rushed out even though we were the only ones in there (it was 5pm im sure they get busy later on)
Staff are friendly and the food is great.
Nice choices for lunch.
Best Thai restaurant in Portland. Food is great and the environment is really nice for a sunny day
10000% recommend Tara Thai. We love their staff and the food is excellent. We usually get take out and they’ve always made our order correct and perfect.
I am obsessed. They’re wonderful and so sweet, the food is consistently great and the prices are reasonable. I get takeout here at least weekly.
Bday lunch! Terrific food. Always ample food, always get a take home box and dinner is solved. ❤️
Tara Thai is one of the best thai food places in Portland. I have going there for over 20 years and it has always been great. Good food and super friendly staff.
