Creative Thai dishes & cocktails are the draw at this hip hideaway with funky, reclaimed-wood decor.
If you are looking for an authentic Thai place, this is it. The restaurant is cute and cozy and the food is soooo delicious. I love the menu comes with pictures and they offer so many dishes.
We got Lychitini and Mee Sen Colada and they were both so good but kinda small. For appetizers, we got Chicken Wings with Spicy Basil and Somtum Puu. Chicken Wings sauce is fish sauce with basil. It was not bad but the basil definitely added little kick. The picked jalapeños on the side was a plus for the wings. Somtum Puu was so tasty. I loved it but it was little too fishy for my husband. Then I got braised beef boat noodle soup and my husband got Khao Soi Gai. Mine came with so tender chunks of beef with some tendons, rice noodle, bean sprouts and broccoli maybe. It was full of favor but the broccoli was little too crunchy. Khao Soi Gai was so creamy and the meat was juicy but my husband wished he got it with rice instead. They also offered a tray sauce on the side with pickled jalapeños, chili oil, chili flake and some kind of sauce.
The service was excellent and the waitresses were friendly and attentive. The price is pretty reasonable. Overall, this is my first time trying this place and I love it. Definitely recommend!!
Met up with a couple of friends for Saturday dinner at Mee Sen Thai Eatery. It’s next door to Stem Wine Bar. Entrees are in the $14.00 USD to $21.00 USD range.
- Tamarind margarita ($13.00 USD) - decent
- Curry puff ($10.00 USD) - three small puffs
- Peek gai tod ($15.00 USD for 10) - good sized chicken wings. Opted for the spicy basil
- Somtum puu ($15.00 USD) - good portion. Green papaya salad was light and refreshing
- Guay tiew tom kha ($16.00 USD) - coconut soup was serviceable. Ground pork was tasty
- Panang moo ($15.00 USD) - curry was solid. Good portion and comes with rice
- Mhee krob rad nah ($15.00 USD) - same sweet gravy sauce that you get at Chinese restaurants. My least favourite dish
Mee Sen’s another solid Thai eatery.
Nice outdoor seating next to the side walk in a happening little area. You can easily have a fur baby along side or kid. The staff is extremely sweet and accommodating. The tofu salad rolls were only $7 and came out lightning quick! I got the chicken larb and it was delish.
This is the best Thai restaurant in Portland!!! My partner and I have tried to find a Thai restaurant on par with this place closer to our house, but no one does it like Mee-Sen Thai! The staff members are always so kind. My favorite is the Thai fried rice with chicken. Try it with a fried egg—it’s so delicious I sometimes get two!
Delicious noodles. The boat noodles and khao soy were fantastic. Like visiting Thailand. Great flavor, tender meat, very satisfying. Guessing the rest of the menu would be just as good.
Something to be aware of: The tables were tiny and the seating felt a tad awkward, but it must be difficult to arrange seating in the relatively small space at the establishment. Didn’t tank the experience of the food for us, but if you are a larger person this may be a consideration for you when selecting this spot for your meal.
Would definitely go back again if we are in the neighborhood.
The beef stew goes absolutely crazy
I went here with a friend on the evening of 2/15. She ordered a soup dish and I had the wrapped prawns. A few hours later I was hit with the worst food poisoning I’ve ever had and spent the night puking every 10 minutes. I don’t write bad reviews, but this was really an unfortunate experience

Tom Ka was bland with over cooked seasonless chicken boiled cosistency and inedible. Khao Pad fried rice also bland and had over cooked dried out chicken that had boiled consistency. Worst Thai food we have ever had. Avoid Mee-Sen Thai Eatery.
I came here with a friend to eat on 1/24/25, they were packed and busy. There was one group ahead of us on the wait list so we decided to join and wait. 15 minutes into waiting a few more groups of people came in and joined the list as well, one group of 3 white people came in with one of them being a "regular" as i overheard him boasting to his friends about how he's a regular. I did not hear them join the wait list at all, then one of the servers who knew him greeted him and brought their group back to be seated. I tried to call her out on it and said we were here before they were and that they literraly just got here but she ignored me and continued to take them to their table. Catering to your regulars and putting them ahead of the line is never ok. The food was mediocre and i will not be going back there again since they like to cater to white people. Very disappointed. Anyone else have a similar experience feel free to jump in

People are kind and attentive. Food is amazing. Well presented and delicious.
I love the pad thai (nice chewy thin noodles and scrumptious fllavor) and the Laotian papaya salad (there are bits of fermented crabs in there but that adds to the umami flavor). Good portions and they come in cute big round to-go containers. I ordered through Uber
Great service and great food! Came back in 2024, and the flavor is still amazing
First off the service was amazing but I thought the food was ok. Our lao papaya didn't taste like lao style, it looked like they did thai style and added crab legs only. The crab wonton was crunchy but the filling was missing some seasoning to add flavor. The boat noodle had too much noodle that soaked the broth quickly. The curry was probably our favorite.

Food was soo good!
Food was incredible. Service was fast and all the waiters were very polite. The decor inside the restaurant was a really nice touch as well. I'm not from Portland but it semmed to be in a very nice neighborhood and location with other restaurants and bars surrounding it. My favourite dish was the guay tiew tom kha.
Excellent Thai food overall! Some of the best pad see ew I’ve ever had, Portland knows how to do Thai food and this ranks pretty up there for both my wife and I!
Decent but not mind blowing.
Legit Thai street food with excellent noodle soups
Stopped by on a whim and had the best experience. The server was funny, food was great, the little courtyard atmosphere was perfect! I'd definitely come back.
Loved the food and the service. We had Khao soi gai and fried chicken, both dishes were really good.
Good, nothing great, nothing bad. Not the usual Thai place but had a lot more actual Thai dishes the usual. Will probably go back for the varienty.
Had the Khao Soi Gai. Chicken falling off the bone, Some soft noodles, some cruchy ones, nice curry base soup. Recommened.
Also had the salad roll. One of my favorite side dishes. Served with a warm peanut sauce. Highly recommeded
I ordered to go and it was still hot and delicious. Sooooo gooood! I'd give it 10 stars if I could. Loved it!
The food was very disappointing at Mee-Sen. The Kaeng curry was so thin it should have been listed with the soups. The flavor of the broth was good, but the potatoes were undercooked and the chicken, rib meat, was left on the bone which is almost impossible to eat in a broth. Also, they left the skin on which was mushy and gross. The chicken itself wasn't seasoned as the one bite I ate had no flavor aside from the thin curry liquid around it.They served this with a thin roti bread which would have been fine if the curry had been thick. But the thin pancake like pieces just didn't work with broth. I also got the curry puffs which were amazingly lacking in flavor. They did improve slightly when dipped in the curry broth.
The service is what saved this review from being one star. The server was very concerned that I wasn't happy with the dish and offered to have it remade. I did not take her up on it as I assumed it would just be more of the same and why waste food. I left hungry and have no plans to go back.
One of the best Thai food places in Portland in my opinion. Comfortably rivals (and often bests) other, much more expensive and critically rated, Thai places in the city (like PaaDee and Kati). Their stir fry is sooo good, but my favourites are the Khao Soi Gai and Giew Grob Pad Thai. Also their Peek Gai Todd! Been eating here for almost a decade, love this spot.
Edit:
Only order dine-in/take-out, do NOT get delivery. Their portions and flavours are still good with take-out/dine-in, but delivery sucks.
Served my wife the wrong dish. Made no attempt to correct their error. It was her first time venturing something new to eat. What a scummy restaurant. We had a party of 9 but did not play musical chairs or make any difficult orders but they still had the nerve to charge gratuity for literally refusing to serve the right order. Will never return here and will always talk about this terrible experience.
Had a great dinner. Food is legit
Cute place! Love sitting outdoors on a good day. Takes a while to get our food but we enjoy it every time
Food is authentic and very tasty! Service is fast and friendly
This place transports me to Thailand immediately by the vibe, atmosphere, music, and their authentic Thai food. I love the Pad Thai so much that I always order each time. Thai milktea with grass jelly was my favorite too.
We were constantly checked in on and taken care of! You could tell it was an authentic resturaunt!
I would say the curries are a little too sweet though, not too spicy at all.
❤️ Ba mhee haeng puu ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- loved it
- liked the peanuts
- there was the perfect amount of bok choy
- the crab was amazing
Khao Soi ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨
- super soft chicken
- wasn't spicy at all but the chili sauce helped give it flavor
Tom yum with thin noodles ⭐⭐
- this was surprisingly a little too fishy for me
- I loved the thin noodles but it kind of needed some vegetables or something. I'm not sure what
- the pork on the top was delicious
- my partner liked this more than the khao Soi though!
Hat yai fried chicken ⭐⭐
- wouldn't order again
- pink on inside
Guay tiew Tom kha ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- imagine a more water pumpkin curry
- needs spicy for flavor bc it is super sweet
- wish there was more bok choy, there was only 2 pieces
Fish cakes appetizer ⭐⭐
- good with the sauce but didn't do much for me
Thai iced coffee ⭐⭐⭐
- a tiny bit too sweet for me, but I could tell it was super caffeinated, which was what I needed!
The bean and rice burrito is super tasty.
Please add some non dark chicken - it adds too much oil - the creamy yellow curry would be great with chicken breasts! Ugh, so sad
Good flavor and texture. Sweet service. The drink menu is fun as well! Their version of a whiskey sour with tamarind juice is on point 👌
Wonderful Thai food. Drinks could be better.
Update: after 11 years, Mee Sen has become one of my favorite Thai places in Portland. Their food is consistently fresh and high quality, their drinks are excellent, and while service is still a bit on the slow side, I never have any issues. I don’t mind waiting, I’m not going to sit down at a restaurant if I’m in a hurry!
Added 2 stars to my review because they deserve all 5, and I’m so glad they’re still around so that I could update this old review!!
I like Mee-Sen a lot. It's on Mississippi Ave. which gives it extra points for being in my favorite little neighborhood in the city, but the food is really good and creative.
There's a lot of Northern Thai on the menu- and none of it is served very spicy, but they're happy to hot it up for you. I consistently order the Larb gai (larb salad with chicken) and ask for some extra heat.
The dessert thing with bread and cream sauce- I don't even know what it's called because when I bit into it I forgot my name. Dessert amnesia. Delicious.
Nice outdoor seating next to the side walk in a happening little area. You can easily have a fur baby along side or kid. The staff is extremely sweet and accommodating. The tofu salad rolls were only $7 and came out lightning quick! I got the chicken larb and it was delish.
my favorite thai food around here, they always treat you right and the food is banging🔥
Mee-Sen’s Mhoo Tom Yum is one of my all time favorite dishes in the world. I used to live down the street in my 20s and I would order this dish when I had an upset stomach, was hungover, and right after every cashed paycheck. Because of that it served as a source of comfort for me and is my go to dish. Some of the staff even would tease me about ordering the same thing every time. I ordered the soup so many times during the COVID-19 lock downs I always joked that I was keeping their business open. It just always felt like a warm hug when I needed one! Dishes are so much more special when they have good memories associated with them. Thank you Mee Sen!
Food is bomb here!
Bad experience at here.
The food is amazing and the service is among the best I can recall encountering, as the servers are genuinely happy and nice human beings. What a wonderful place, I’m sure they’re very profitable and for that I am happy. My only criticism is that their peanut sauce is too sweet for me. 10/10 experience though.
Consistently impressed by the quality of ingredients here. Every dish is fresh, beautifully prepared, and delicious. One of my favorite restaurants in Portland! Highly recommended.
Very yummy and unique Thai food!
Cute and tasty
Very pleasant and attentive staff. Great food!
My friend suggested that this place is one of the decent Thai restaurants in Portland. And I have to agree with him! I ordered Boat Noodles and it was sooooo goooooood! And Tod Mon is the must! It’s so hard to find a Thai restaurant with this menu! Love it. And staffs were so friendly! Will come back in a heartbeat.
For the menu I usually got, it was better in the past. Got too salty. Probably not getting it anymore
This place has an Amazing thi.. come over and try!!
Our favorite Thai place 😄
Such delicious food and good service! Love tha soup 🍜
Best Thai place I’ve been to in a long time. Food was amazing, the workers were nice, we got our food quickly, and the Thai Iced Tea was 100% 🤤
This place rocks. The food is consistently good, everyone who works there is super friendly, and every time I get takeout they write a cute little note and they freaking gave me an adorable little basket of candy tonight with my order which is SO cute and festive. 10/10. Grateful for this joint.
This reminds me of one of my favorite Thai restaurants in California. I enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere. It is challenging finding a Thai place that is not a fusion or does not use too much oil in their cooking. See-Sen is a gem. They have a great set up. The downstairs is cozy and the upstairs is great for larger groups. I have had multiple items on their menu and they are consistently prepared and tasty. The service is prompt and friendly. This has become my go to spot for Thai food in PDX. I will travel across town if need be. Highly Recommend !!
Love the noodle soups and cocktails
I love the vibe of this place. Traditional Thai dishes with some street food dishes I haven't seen in a lot of other restaurants. Great service and cocktails. Excellent decorations and architecture
Terrible. Over priced. Bland. Smallest portion.
Wonderful dining experience that I hope to recreate on my next visit to Portland.
From first setting foot in the door to after the completion of the entire meal, this was truly 5 Star!
Went with the Mee Sen soda, a great app, then topped with Guay Tire Tom Kha hot! Spice level was 💯 perfect. Absolutely amazing!
The menu features a pic of every item, so that's a huge plus, as well.
Excellent restaurant
One of the best Thai places I’ve been to in Portland.
Great vibes but the FOOD IS SO BAD. Literally felt queasy and nauseous after eating the Pad Thai. I get that it’s gonna be overpriced because of the nice location on a hip street. But the food is just terrible. Tried a few dishes and all seafood was chewy and old. Had me asking myself if the ingredients were old and expired. Drinks were decent but overpriced.
Our family ate here Delicious food and good service.
-503Hibachi
Food was mediocre. Servers were very kind and attentive, when they showed up. The ambiance (sans generic sounding easy listening 70s style music) was the best part.
Food is very reasonably priced. Around $15/entree. We had adult beverages with our meal as well.
Have been on a few dates here and we are always pleased with our food and service. They are always nice and quick.
Possibly my favorite all around Thai spot in Portland. Go-to is the Pad See Ew and the chicken wings but there isn’t really anything bad on the menu. Always hits. Lived across the street for a sec and it was dangerous.
The service is always friendly, fantastic. Great atmosphere
Yummy Kao Soi
Mee Sen Thai is THE best thai food in town hands down. Their Khao Soi is to die for. Truly, it's as authentic as it comes, and this is coming from someone who's enjoyed it in Chiang Mai.
Plus, the staff has always been so wonderful and kind. When I made a reservation for 10 of us for a friend's birthday dinner, they were extraordinarily accommodating. Our waitress even gave us some birthday candles for the cake we brought.
Can't recommend this place enough.
Relaxed atmosphere, great food, and good service.
Best Thai fried rice. Period.
We will definitely be returning! The atmosphere was fun and the food was delicious. I got the guay tiew tom kha and the flavor was amazing. I love Tom kha but rarely order it because I usually want something more substantial, so this was the perfect dish. Husband got the pad kratiem prik thai and it was super garlicky and yummy. Mango sticky rice was the perfect way to end the meal.
Really great food, very reasonably priced, good friendly service in spite of being very busy. Would go back again and again.
I was very impressed with the quality of the food and cocktail I had. The service was excellent as well.
I really hate writing poor reviews for a local business but my partner and I ordered 3 items and unfortunately didn't enjoy any of them :( I don't know if we just came on a bad night but we were left truly disappointed by every component of our meal (we got takeout though, so can't speak to the service). Overall, we didn't enjoy the flavor and found the items grossly overpriced for the size of the portions you get.
Salad rolls:
-We felt a bit misled because the picture shows 4 salad rolls but we received 2
-Ordered these because we saw other reviews raving about the peanut sauce. The salad roll itself is good, however, we did not care for the peanut sauce at all. The peanut sauce is SWEET. To each their own, but we found this unpleasantly sweet and unbalanced for our taste.
Peek Gai Tod (spicy basil chicken wings):
-These were not spicy at all. I think a better description would be "garlic basil"
-This could be due to the fact that we ordered takeout so this could be drastically different dining in, but the wings were chewy and not crispy.
-Overall flavor was a bit bland and underwhelming for our taste. There was garlic and basil, but didn't taste much beyond that. None of the flavor seems to get into the chicken itself.
Pad Kee Mao:
-This was the biggest offender for portion to price ratio. We paid $17, and received one of those shallow plastic takeout containers that was half-full. One person could easily finish this and still be hungry. We were taken aback as it was the smallest portion of pad kee mao we've ever received, but that it certainly not reflected in the price.
-We ordered this extra spicy. I wouldn't even describe what we received as mild. The spice was virtually undetectable.
-Pad Kee Mao is one of my favorite Thai dishes, but we didn't enjoy the flavor of this at all. We found it bland and not cohesive, as if each ingredient had been cooked separately and thrown together. We found most the vegetables undercooked and the egg overcooked, and the tomato in it just tasted of low-quality and imparted an unpleasant flavor.
Maybe it was a bad night for them or they are training or something. However, the portion to price alone is enough to make me not want to give them a second chance. There are far tastier and fairly priced Thai options in this area alone, so unfortunately we will not be back.
Real BKK street food in a great Thai environment with smiling service! !
Excellent in all ways. Really wonderful, diverse menu too.
The staff is always so nice and friendly & I’ve never had any issues!
The food was really tasty especially the chicken wings with spicy basil garlic sauce. The noodle was good too while a tiny little more sweet than my taste. The presentation of the noodle can be improved to match its taste : )
Overall good, recommend stop by.
Amazing location, cute decor, lovely indoor and outdoor space
My all-time favorite Thai place!! The food is spectacular, the ambience unique, and the staff super friendly. Would recommend to anyone in the Portland area!
Phenomenal thai food
Prompt service, fresh food, delicious food :)
The sun was out for summer solstice, lo-fi music gently filled the space and the smells were tantalizing. Service was kind and attentive, the waiter recommended Khao soi, it was delicious! The chicken was fall apart tender, the Thai tea with herbal boba was cold and the boba was soft and flavorful. Dessert was mango sticky rice, sweet with a soft chew.
Can't wait to go again!
Excellent food and drinks!
Delicious and fresh food! Spice level is on point also! 😍 definitely try the pad see ew or pad kee mao.
My partner and I loved this place!! Ive been trying fried rice from different restaurants and this was by far my favorite. I got the tom yum fried rice and it was sooo flavorful, usually I want to add some type of sauce to the dishes I order even if they're already good, but with this one there was just no need. They have so many interesting choices, not to mention sticky rice with custard in addition to sticky rice with mango for dessert (both are lovely)! The service was good too. I can't wait to go back and try more of their menu.
Quick service & delicious food!!
Great Thai food in Portland. Our group almost ordered everything on the menu and we loved every item. Dailey priced and nice vibe. We will come back again when in the city!
The food was excellent and there were a few things on the menu for vegetarians/GF as well, though not as many options as other places. I would still return again!
The tiny single seat stools are dangerous, I had knelt down to pick up a napkin and feel over. I do appreciate the other diners that offered to help, I didn't get a chance to thank them. But peanut sauce was great!! Did have to wait a long time for refills (we never got then) and for the check, to be fair--I think there were only 2 waitresses tending to everyone. But besides a bruised hip, embarrassing fall, and unquenchable thirst-- id go back!!!
Cute little Thai food restaurant with authentic thai food with some twist. We ordered mhee krob rad nah and giew krob pad Thai. Both portions were hefty and satisfying! The flavors were on point. The servers were also very attentive. Will definitely recommend this restaurant!
Staff refused to make my order.
STOP APP DELIVERIES NOW
This place has the best food I've had in Portland. The best firm, not over cooked but not mealy mussels as an appetizer. Guay Tiew Tom Kha was so good, if I were facing execution tomorrow, I would have it again as my last meal. The waitress was so kind and helpful. I can't wait to bring my family there.
Cocktails and food were good along with great wait staff. Great location, too
DeLICIOUS!!!! Amazing service...not your typical Americanized Thai place. Hands down my favorite Thai place. On the spendy side of Thai, but well worth it.
It was awesome!
Maybe the best thai food I've ever had. We started out with an order of crab puffs. They came out very quick, and they were good. My main was a curry noodle dish with an amazing amount of flavor. The chicken was a leg with a bone. The meat was so tender no knife was necessary.
Compared to many Thai restaurants in Portland, Mee-Sen just does not hold up. Small portions for the price, and we ordered our dishes 'hot' but could not taste even a hint of spice. Your dollar will get you more (and tastier) food elsewhere.
I had the pad z ew and a Thai iced tea and both were amazing! The decor is very cute in there as well I defiantly want to go back.
Great Thai place lots of good choices. The place is small but they still were able to accommodate 9 folk team quickly
Absolutely phenomenal drinks and a great atmosphere. Friendly staff too! Try the meatballs and khai Joao Mhoo sab
Amazing food, drinks and service!
Mee sen just may be the best Thai in town! Great for dine in or take out. A lot of times there is a long wait in the evenings when it isn’t patio season. Always worth it!
Staff are excellent and the crab fried rice was 🧨
Wonderful food, great service. Lovely music. Great spot to stop for a bite while on mississippi
Amazing service. Even better food. The waiter was excellent. They have great options for dietary restrictions and are very understanding. Everything was cooked to perfection and the flavors were spot on. The atmosphere makes you feel like you just walked into Thailand. Very cozy, clean, and not too cramped. Definitely coming back again and would send my friends here.
Lived @ Tupelo and ate here 40 times for take out. Really nice to have a more authentic Thai food place to try. Prices were good for Mississippi Ave. food sometimes took long but was worth it!
Authentic Thai! My wife is full Thai and she approves. Two thumbs up for both of us!
Consistently good
We went here today for lunch and it was sooooo good! Food, drinks and service were all phenomenal! We can't wait to go back again. :)
Food is delicious. Ordered the tom yum soup, pad khee mao, and pad thai super yummy. We also ordered the Lychee cocktail they have cute drink selection. It is unfortunate that they are a bit understaffed and only two servers and serving a whole dinner night. You can sit outside or indoors but overall the thai food is definitely an A plus.
It’s a lovely restaurant. I like the Christmas vibes here! The hot tea is really good when it’s snowy outside
Charming Thai Eatery with a decor perfect for dates or a more intimate dining experience. The service here was great at the time I went (which was in the evening). What I would have liked was for the chicken wing appetizer to be more crispy and the Khao Sao to be stronger seasoned. Otherwise, portions are great and I look forward to coming here for a late night bite!
Khao Soi (Chicken leg in a spicy Thai noodle soup) was very good -- Chicken was fall-off-the-bone soft and the soup was flavorful but not burn-your-mouth spicy. Noodles had the right chewiness as well. We came on a whim but felt like we found a great place for our future visits to the area!
Excellent authentic Thai food.
Great food, friendly staff, cozy fun atmosphere
Very friendly wait staff and prompt service! Excellent food as well!
I love the gai manow and tamarind margarita!
Great food. Great atmosphere. Nice staff. A little spendy, but 2 appetizers and an entrée was plenty for 2 people. Would eat here again. For shizzle.
delicious!
Amazing food. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. I have been dining at this restaurant since 2017 and never had a bad meal.
This place was awesome, the food and drinks were SO yummy!!! The staff was so nice and the indoor/outdoor seating was really nice. Great vegan/vegetarian options!
