Food was great, we just stopped in for some appetizers and drinks. We especially enjoyed the crab rangoon (crab puffs) appetizer*.
I was impressed by the waitress’s ability to keep up with a relatively full restaurant.
*If you are a fan of this spot, be sure to try their food cart nearby - we tried the crab rangoon there (crab delight) and it was so good!
So yummy. Their sauces for their combo plate were to die for. Their potstickers delicious. Duck curry amazing. Fast and friendly service. Cozy, pretty atmosphere. Their cocktails were dang good too.
12/12/20: 4.75 out 5 - This review was is based on E-San Thai being delivered to my home via one of the delivery services.
My wife and I was use to eating at the food cart that use to be at the Tidbits Food Carts before shutting down, and was delighted to when we found out that E-San Thai now opened a "brick and mortar" on SE Division. Hence, the delivery service since we don't live in the area.
The food arrived as instructed, and prepared to our request. That's a plus, considering it was delivered.
We had ordered 3 items since it was just my wife and I eating. At first, it didn't seem like much, but once we started digging in, it actually is more than plenty. It was still hot, and quite very tasty.
With everything going on, we are hopeful that will be able to visit and actually have a sit-in dining experience.
I definitely would recommend trying this place once and decide for yourself, if you haven't done so by now.
Enjoy!
Staying about 2 miles away from this Thai place in Portland for work. I'm from Philly so the Thai food scene is pretty much the same as any other US city. Ordered through Grubhub and the delivery portion was great.
First I would like to say... Finally... a Thai place that actually makes the highest spice level, pretty spicy. I ordered the Pad Thai and Thai Fried Rice... it's what seemed to be ordered most commonly.
The food is pretty good, but the Pad Thai could use a bit more coconut sugar or tamarind sauce and the fried rice could use a bit more fish sauce. Other than that, the food was great.
I love this place. It is such a relaxing place with wonderful decor. They really try to make you feel at home and to stay awhile.
Great place since they were in downtown, I think it was Pine Street. A lot of memories there and hoping to have new ones here.
Best food ever at the best price point. Ingredients are fresh and delicious, drinks are glorious and refreshing. Would recommend this place to every being in existence.
Authentic Thai food. It's a little salty for me but portion is good and neat. It's one of my favourite Thai restaurant at Division St.
So yummy. Their sauces for their combo plate were to die for. Their potstickers delicious. Duck curry amazing. Fast and friendly service. Cozy, pretty atmosphere. Their cocktails were dang good too.
Evil prince curry souhhhh guuuud
I could eat their Chicken Pad Thai every week. The quality is great, the portions are huge and it is delicious.
Favorite Pad See Ew in Vancouver!
We love this place so much and do take out very often! Something I'd really like to see though is, tempura or coconut fried shrimp instead of sleeping prawns. Sleeping prawns are too plain and boring. They have the best crab puffs though! 😋
Most bland and unexceptional pad Thai I’ve ever had. I recommend reading more recent reviews that have similar criticisms about lack of flavor and inconsistent experiences.
Amazing food, amazing service, just perfect. Best Thai-Food place in North America.
Food was great, we just stopped in for some appetizers and drinks. We especially enjoyed the crab rangoon (crab puffs) appetizer*.

Pad Kee Mao was better than most! Crab Rangoon wasn’t just cream cheese! Smaller inside, cozy.
Delicious Thai food! I have been coming here for the past 7 years. It is one of my favorite restaurants in Portland. The food is amazing and the staff is great!
Curry, Curry and more curry!!! Crab puffs will make you moist. Chicken satay that slay! Peanut sauce so good.. you might want to Boof it, not gonna lie! A must try, try! Try!!!!!
Side note: drinks are yummy ..
Really bad Experience: I paid for 2 meals and tipped 10 dollars on 35 dollars. I ordered brown rice and was given white rice then told I ordered white rice when my father knows I said brown rice. They made me pay for the brown rice right there . We got swindled !!
Perfect date night spot. The waitress is always so kind, welcoming and efficient. I love the egg rolls, salt and pepper shrimp and obviously the pad Thai.
If you’ve ever felt like you’ve lost connection with a friend, come here for dinner. There’s something about spicy food, a cheap bottle of wine and comfortable chairs that will keep you together forever.
The portions are generous, enough that you’ll never fight over over leftovers and I’m pretty sure that every friendship can be healed with good food. So call me optimistic…
My friend and I had an amazing time at Esan Thai! Our server was so lovely and generous and gifted us a beautiful fan and a small bag!! The food was excellent as well. A rainy day well spent
The food was complete garbage it was so bad I literally nearly had to spit out what I was chewing because it tasted and smelled like that mildew smell that happens when you wash your blender out and put it back on shelf with the lid on. On top of the food being unpalatable the price was egregiously high ($78.00 for 1 mojito 1 order of yakisoba 1 order of pad thai and 1 thai tea 1 salad roll).
I will NEVER eat here again!
Nice spot! The yellow curry was perfect.
It's a nice Thai food restaurant to eat out on a cold night!
Literally my favorite restaurant in portland.
Easily the worst Thai food that I've ever had. As it's right around the corner from my house, I've eaten there at least a dozen times, always hoping that it'll get better. It doesn't. Only the restaurant owner, its employees, and paid reviewers (they exist) would ever give this place 5 stars. Seriously bad food!
There was only my friend and I eating and one other table. The waitress seemed very bothered by having to help us. She didn't stop and listen to what we wanted for our drinks. So we had to order drinks 3 separate times all we were getting was tea and coffee. The food was all right it wasn't anything I would go back for. And the portions were very small and I feel very overpriced. The tea was very good. We got dessert the sweet sticky rice I think it's called and that was delicious. It was very frustrating how the waitress didn't come back and check on us to see if we wanted anything else. Which we did. I've worked in the food service industry the last 30 years. I don't feel I'm being picky about the service just very truthful. There's quite a few Thai restaurants I would drive out of my way to go to rather than walk a couple blocks to this one.
Just not good to me. Tbh it's all blan. Wouldn't recommend this place.
My partner and myself went to this restaurant for lunch. The only female waitress for the whole place was responsible for people inside and giving takeout orders in the same time. She is definitely overworked and needs additional help during rush hour.
After waiting for 10+ minutes. We ordered two different entries, one w/o onions and two iced tea’s with coconut milk.
Our iced tea’s never came, both entries came with onions, while we asked during the order that one entry should have been without onions.
My partner took out onions out of his entry, but his lunch experience wasn’t as good, as it was planned. After bringing up issue regarding part of the order that never came and onions, waitress apologized and took out iced teas that were never delivered out of the bill.
During the payment, she asked to just sign the bill with 20% added tip, and she was visibly upset that I didn’t leave the tip and asked about why I paid only the food cost. I can be wrong, but we usually leave tip when the service is exceptional, and food order is right. While on the human level I feel very sorry for her being so overworked, and this is definitely something for the owners to consider, on the customer level - my experience wasn’t the best - I haven’t received half of my order, and the other half that I received had an ingredient which should not be there.
My food was tasty(mixed veggies with chicken), my partner didn’t like his food, but he hates onions, so that was expected. I will be happy to give this place another try, if owners will take a better care of their employees and will stuff restaurant accordingly to the demand
The food is so flavorful and everything is cooked to perfection. I got the beef drunken noodles and it was so delicious I could cry
Tasty nice waitress and helpful with food allergies
I’ve only dined in once and they forgot some of our food and it took awhile to get our food, but I usually order from doordash and they have the BEST pad se ew with chicken in my opinion. I could eat it every week if I could afford it haha. Other than being a little pricey, their food is great.
Brilliant spot. I love the pad see ew and evil prince curry here, but you basically can’t go wrong. They won’t make fun of you for ordering the pad thai or yakisoba, or asking for it not too spicy. But if you want Thai Spicy, they’ve got you there, too. Everyone is always so friendly and prices are good.
Pro tip: eat here! Don’t let your food lose its best minutes of life in a container inside a bag. Dine in (there is seating outside if you observe restrictions on indoor eating for covid safety)! The food is best right out of the kitchen and on a plate.
If you ever have a bad time here, it’s surely a rare bad day— I keep coming back because it’s always lovely.
The food is delicious with lots of traditional Thai options. I love that you can choose your protein and spiciness level for each dish. We ordered Pad See Ew with tofu and Thai Noodle Soup with beef. Both were big portions and really yummy. Although there was only one server, she was very friendly and helpful. And if they have them be sure to take a guava candy at the end of the meal. 😊
I'm not sure how this place stays in business with Kati across the street. I got this food delivered on Postmates and it was so bland it needed to be doused in soy sauce, chilis, and msg to really be enjoyable. I've never gotten a Thai curry that lacked so much flavor. Somehow I managed to get a marble sized rock in the bottom of my Pad Woosen. I know that small pebbles can sometimes pop up in bags of rice but this thing was huge. How the hell did it get there?
The staff was extremely rude and not inviting at all. Our family felt unwelcome . I truly I will not recommend this place to any friend or any family trying to have quality time. They are very racist people against our Hispanic community. We will never be back to such a hostile and toxic place.
Loved the atmosphere and energy! Food was flavorful and bold, just what we were looking for. Will def be back
Great food and ambiance, definitely worth a stop if you are in the area!
They do a great job! If I had one gripeit the the heat isn't consistent. I feel like it's because people don't order what they can handle haha
Outstanding food and service. Will be coming back.
This is my second visit here. The place is nice and clean along with great hospitality. Unfortunately all of the dishes that I have had lacked flavoring.
The best thai place in town.
Underrated. Always solid.
What a delicious place! With affordable lunch portions large enough for a meal later as well. The quality is worth driving to from other neighborhoods, the sauce was very rich on my curry and the veggies were cooked separately and not boiled.
Such kind staff, we had a lovely lunch.
Best Thai food around. Have not been in a while because Thruman st closed, bit still searching. Their chicken fried rice is the BEST!
above average
Very irritating experience. Unfriendly staff, sticky table and scorching hot food. Plus, Tom Kha soup, which I ordered mild was way too spicy and not well-flavored. I could only eat two bites before the spice got to me.
When I got up to leave, the staff member asked if everything was okay and I told them no, it's too spicy, I can't eat it.
They still charged me full price for the meal.
I won't be back.
Wonderful food! I ate at their Farmhouse Carts pod location.
Some of the best Thai food in town. Good prices as well. Highly recommended!
Staying about 2 miles away from this Thai place in Portland for work. I'm from Philly so the Thai food scene is pretty much the same as any other US city. Ordered through Grubhub and the delivery portion was great.

delicious food, Pad See Ew Bombs
Really great food and polite, quick service.
This is the most bland Thai food in Portland. There isn't any good reason to go to this place over other Thai places except their drink menu is a bit more expansive, and they're open a bit more often. Completely unseasoned food. The people are great though, no dig against them.
What a gem! Excellent food and really quick service!
Yum!
respond
1. Yes I was delivering but your REAL customer had to wait.
2. When asked multiple time for an eta, your server responded with, “your order is next”. There was never a time given.
3. You try prove your point but in the end you took responsibility because you are understaffed. Patience does goes a long way, but customer service goes even further.
4. I’ll show up as a customer and let’s see if my rating changes…
Everything I've had here is good, but the green curry might be the best. You can choose from a good range of spice level, which I appreciate bc I like things very spicy. They're always friendly, even when they're super busy!
Delicious food here, especially pineapple fried rice...a must try!
This was only my 1st time there food was fantastic seem to have a good selection. Is very friendly staff and a nice dining room. The only reason I gave it a 4 star, was there was nothing over the top outstanding and parking was difficult.
Good food, music playlist was questionable. Undercooked my broccoli.
My meal was very clearly reheated because half the plate was hot and the other half was still cold.
The food was overly salty as well. I left with an uneasy stomach and as I write this review 8 hours later I am reminding myself that I will never eat there again.
Pad Thai and Thai iced tea were both very good.
Lacking flavors in the majority of our order. The chicken satay tasted like plain grilled chicken on its own and paired with a watery peanut sauce. The fried rice tasted like eggs and lacking fresh veggies. The Tom Kha was worth the third star.
Nah. Other good places nearby.
Worst Thai food I have ever had, I am now sick this evening after eating there.
Food was good especially for the price but the waitress kept making comments about how much my friend and I wanted to order (that it was too much for one person) then about how much we were eating. This happened every time she stopped by and insisted that we get a takeout box and gave us one despite us saying no multiple times. “You shouldn’t eat that all here. It’s too much food. Take it home.” So come here if you want to be criticized about eating the food that THEY portion out… For reference all we got was one appetizer each and one entree..
For inexpensive, fast, and extremely good Thai food, this is your place. Not greasy or heavy and very tasty. I have not had a bad dish here.
We ordered a couple of weeks ago and thought it was great. A couple of days ago we decided to do a delivery order and it was like a completely different restaurant. It was like a completely different Thai restaurant. It was awful. The salad rolls only had a couple of small pieces of tofu and the peanut sauce was completely different. It was just watered down peanut butter. The chicken satay was awful as well. I was so bummed because I was craving the peanut sauce. I hope this experience is just a fluke.
I feel like this place has just improved over time. Today we had salad rolls, a lettuce wrap with crispy fried rice, a pad see ew, and mango sticky rice. We've eaten a lot of basic pad see ew around Portland (it's what the kid will eat too), but this one stood out. The crispy rice wraps were delightful, and they gave us seconds on lettuce. And my wife said she hadn't had sticky rice like that since touring Southeast Asia.
Best thai food in portland.
Elite egg rolls, perfectly balanced flavors and textures work towards a definite top 10 egg Rolls I've ever ate. Very clean and professional.
The food was great, outdoor seating was well covered, and the staff was friendly and unambiguous with their COVID protocols. I really enjoyed it
I especially liked the Thaitini, and the Tom Kha was excellent!
Simple tasty Thai. Worth going to.
Great food, excellent service. Feel like most people get takeout from here vs dining in, which is sad because they have a very nice interior. Full bar, TV's, clean tables. Really nice place.
Good food and service
I came in for a to-go order with a quick turnaround needed before picking up my daughter. They were so fast and accommodating. Wonderful service!
We are picky eaters with weird diet restrictions. Esan is always happy to accommodate, the staff is very hospitable and food is always amazing! 7 year customer satisfaction ❤️
Can't get enough of their tasty food.
Evil Prince Curry
The food cart was already amazing, the brick and Mortar takes their food to a whole new level.
I met a co-worker here for lunch. Very Very good food. Fast and friendly
Great food! Friendly service! Outdoor seating!
Can't believe this but I ordered delivery including their golden potstickers. These wonderful people created a hole in the top of the container so my potstickers wouldn't get soggy!!! Everyone knows their food is delicious but this touch was over the top awesome. *Would have posted a pic but I was too excited to eat.
We sure miss the downtown Esan location 💕. The food is as good, but lacks the vibe.
Very disappointed with this take out order. Pad Thai, doesn’t taste like pad Thai. Seems they forgot the tamarind sauce. Tasted more like stir fried rice noodles. Also ordered the thai sausage fried rice and the larb - both were lacking in flavor as well. Overall, food is not seasoned correctly. Super sad because I loved the now closed downtown location. On a positive note, the Thai iced tea and Thai iced coffee were good.
Really good curries. Good portions and good service. Recommend the Evil Prince curry.
So good. Second time coming here. Super healthy and good portions. Service was prompt and very good. Food came out fast. All things on the menu are so good
Consistently bland over 2 orders and 5-6 different dishes. Thai food is flavorful and complex (even when not spicy!). This is sadly not.
On of my top favorite restaurants in Portland!!
The food is always fresh and delicious. Some must haves are the Sausage Fried Rice, Crab Fried Rice, and the Som Tum (papya salad). I prefer the Som Tum EXTRA spicy 🔥🥵 with shrimp and they never disappoint!
10/10 Food & Service
It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good. I also wish they had more esan style dishes.
I have been here many times, both with friends and family! I can't say it enough, stop by here for a meal its amazing!
Staff are quick, and kind. Food is amazing! One of my favorite places to go for dinner!!
I enjoyed the Evil Prince. Medium was a little too spicy for me though.
Great little Thai restaurant, definitely a good place to stop by if you're hungry
Bad experience. We were seated promptly with glasses of water, but waited at least 20 minutes without them coming to take our order. It wasn't even busy. Ended up leaving to eat somewhere else.
Wish I could give them -ve stars - placed an order online and when we reached the restaurant they said they never got our order (even though I got a confirmation email) and then they said we were supposed to call them for the order, when in fact their website says the staff will call us within 10 mins to confirm the order. We had to place a new order and waited for it to get redone. Horrible experience - NEVER order ONLINE from them, their system is terrible. Overall killed the experience for me, lost a customer due to bad online ordering.
Please beware of deliberate overcharging on already overpriced items. Got two items that should have included tofu (pad prik king and mussuman curry) at an already fairly high $12.50 per dish. They went ahead and charged $2.50 per dish as an add-on for tofu. This is not represented on the menu, or at any other Thai restaurant on planet earth. Best of luck in your future endeavors.
Really good portion sizes and prices. amazing tasting food too. Def recommend. I will visit again.
Great food and generous pours on alcohol. The Thai BBQ chicken is excellent!
Fantastic food!! Will eat there again when we come back.
The service was friendly, and the food was wonderful. The vegetables in my Pad April Khing were prepared perfectly. We did take out, but I am looking forward to going back and taking advantage of the outdoor seating.
Hands down my favorite type place in Portland sad their downtown location is shut down and I don't know where their food carts are around here anymore I think it's just across the river but very good food
Terrible service
Esan Thai is one of the nice restaurant finds on Division in Southeast Portland. This restaurant has wonderful outdoor seating which during our current situation allows for proper social distancing. The seafood dish that I had, pla Sam rod (sweet and sour fish) was bursting with flavor. My partners dish of a seafood curry was also very good. This is somewhere you need to try out. Out of all the places you have to try, definitely stop by here and check it out.
Wonderful service, great food. They have a full bar, and the same menu that they had downtown.
I was disappointed when I got chicken satay delivered there was no cucumber salad as the menu says. But the food was tasty.
Loved bbq fried rice. Amazing food. A must try Portland restaurant.

Great Place, friendly, fast and the food was great! On my regular rotation now.
Tom Yum and Pad Sew are salty.
Amazing egg rolls and drunken noodles! Great portions. Highly recommend!
So glad we finally gave this place a try. The portions are generous and the food was high quality. I have to say their green curry is among the best I've ever had. Looking forward to trying the other curries soon!
Everything you would expect and more. Friendly family owned spot that I will visit again and again. Lots of Asians working in the back of the house.. good chit! It's the spot for Thai.
The food is amazing, but their posted hours are sketchy at best. Come by on my lunch often and ,since they've opened, its been about 50/50 whether they're around. I've tried ordering them on Doordash a few times since going remote, my order is often canceled by the driver when they arrive to a locked door. Really frustraiting.
Great food, not over the top atmosphere, kinda casual place to get lunch and dinner. Portions are a bit in the large side, but I enjoy leftovers so I am not complaining.
Generous portions. Tasty food. Very sweet staff. We'll definitely be back soon.
Every dish on the menu is worth trying here. Love the vibes of this location too
Delicious, healthy, and authentic Thai cuisine. Came here on a whim and have been back several times since (with more trips planned in the future). Everything is order at the counter which is a system that has worked fine so far. Individual table and group-style seating available, so enough room for your large party.
I finally made time to try this new addition to Division Street dining. I think they are going to be a success. I had a garlic and black pepper stir fry that was tasty. The menu is full of interesting choices. Monday-Thursday they have two happy hour times...3-6 and 9-10
