Good people and delicious and fresh food!

Diner Review №2

One of my favorite spots in town! Highly recommend!

Diner Review №3

Diner Review №4

The prices are raised without notice, this is unacceptable for me. The price went from $55. to $67. When it was picked up. We will not be customers any longer.

Diner Review №5

You're better off going to Panda Express than going here

Diner Review №6

Damn, you'd think this place is the best thai place because of their ratings on google, but don't waste your time or money, the food and services are trash and it's even still expensive.

Diner Review №7

This place is amazing! Family owned I believe. They make the best food.

Diner Review №8

Great place food is fantastic and service is great.

Diner Review №9

Diner Review №10

Diner Review №11

So incredibly tasty, but I wish to god they were open on Saturday night. I get it that the owners probably just want to have “normal” American work hours for themselves, but what restaurant is closed on a Saturday night?!

Diner Review №12

My daughter and I love their pra ram - especially the peanut sauce! We always order extra peanut sauce to take home.

Diner Review №13

I love this place, great fresh home style Thai food.

Diner Review №14

The sign is down, but the food is amazing! Highly recommend the Pad Ginger Stir Fry! Joy is also a great host - super personable!

Diner Review №15

Amazing, accommodating, and amiable. Our favorite red curry in town!

Diner Review №16

New owner, bad service, mediocre food

Diner Review №17

This place has great food and drinks but most of all great customer service and very friendly.

Diner Review №18

Diner Review №19

I love the.
Food there.First time trying it, it's kind of a small place. The only thing that I did not really like was that.It was too hot in there, do.Do they don't have any air conditioning?Or it was off one of the two but everything else was great

Diner Review №20

Diner Review №21

Edit: Chai Thai has closed permanently. I miss them already!

Awesome hole in the wall Thai restaurant, great food and great friendly service! Due to the very small size the can be a wait at times.

Diner Review №22

Love this place. BEST Thai food in Portland. Nothing compares. I used to live right around the corner and when I moved the only thing I was sad about was moving away from Chai Thai! Delicious!!! Wish o was eating some right now.

Diner Review №23

Maybe this place just doesn’t do well with take out orders bc I recurved my spring rolls like this lmao

Diner Review №24

Diner Review №25

Not open during business hour

Diner Review №26

Delicious food! The most authentic Thai food I ever had and we were deeply impressed by the hospitality of the owner. We saw local people coming in constantly for their food, definitely love the community vibe here. 5/5!

Diner Review №27

Really nice people, amazing food. Unassuming, welcoming atmosphere. This place is a total gem, I can't recommend it enough.
I especially recommend the eggplant lovers. Other Thai staples I've tried are great here too: drunken noodles, coconut curry, etc.

Diner Review №28

Worst service I’ve probably ever had. Took forever for the lady to ask what I’d like to order. As she asked she was walking away while doing so. I let her know I had some questions about the menu and she insisted on staying behind the counter rather than even come near my table. I asked what kind of veggies are in the Golden Fried Rice dish, and she said peas and carrots, just like the menu says. I let her know the menu actually just says mixed veggies in the description. She didn’t bat an eye or apologize. I’ve been here over a half hour now and they haven’t even offered me a water or asked if I’d like anything to drink. Other tables have cups of water and drinks though. Haven’t received my food yet, but I’ll be sure to never to return here again, regardless of how good or not the food may end up being. I’m not a reviewer type of guy at all, but this place is ridiculous, not sure how they have such good reviews.

Diner Review №29

Diner Review №30

This place is a hidden gem! Seems to be family run so it’s closed on the weekends. The dishes have some of the richest flavors of any Thai food I’ve had in Portland and there are some really unique house specials (pumpkin curry, mango curry, crab fried rice and spicy chicken and shrimp our favorites). Portions are extremely generous!!

Diner Review №31

Diner Review №32

Pineapple fried rice is top of the line also homecoming

Diner Review №33

Amazing food and wonderful people😘🌈🥰

Diner Review №34

The food was impeccable, portions were massive, and service was so friendly and good. We were so surprised. Walking in the place seemed a little cramped and sketch, but the food was great so it’s ok.

Diner Review №35

This place is fire, best Thai food I've had in Portland so far hands down, and lucky for me, it's very close to my house. Prices are very reasonable, diverse menu, huge portions, and I've always had very pleasant experiences with staff there while calling my order in and picking it up. I highly recommend, this place literally restores my faith in eating out once I'm burnt out on other restaurants and questioning why I bother eating out so much in the first place lol

Diner Review №36

they didn't pick up the phone when I called to place an order

Diner Review №37

Walking into this place is walking into something special. Like that kitchen of a relative or a neighbor who knows how to cook. It is small but you know something wonderful is going on. Had drunken noodles and my friend had pad thai. Mine was fresh delicious and full of flavor. I take her word for hers because she got Thai hot. (I like my insides). She said it was the best she had in years.
This place is a hidden gem. The staff was fantastic and friendly. Knowing the regulars by name. One walked in not knowing what he wanted. Her reply was "I'll make you something you love."
Parking is a little troublesome but it was a small price to pay. I will continue to visit this place. Try different things and experience the wonderful atmosphere.

Diner Review №38

I love this place... i wish they where open 7 days a week.

Diner Review №39

Diner Review №40

Food is authentic and delicious. Fresh cooked seafood that even to go is not chewy. Service from Joy is a delight. She is blunt and also clever and well spoken. Atmosphere is hard because with food and service so good, who cares.

Diner Review №41

Diner Review №42

Obsessed with their wonton soup. It's the only thing I can eat when I'm sick or have had trouble with my appetite. I pray they never stop serving this....I might actually die haha

Diner Review №43

I would stand by chai thai with my dying breath.

Diner Review №44

Diner Review №45

The owners and staff are so nice and the food is top tier!!!

Diner Review №46

I love this place dearly. It is one of the first places I ate when I moved here, and even after all the wonderful food I have eaten in this city, Chai Thai stands out as an exemplary example. The food is absolutely amazing. They never miss here. My favorites are the larb and pad prik khing. The menu is extensive though and I recommend trying everything that interests you.

Diner Review №47

Very small venue. Food came quick and had a good amount of heat to it. I had the squid Curry and the squid was very tender. Came with a big portion of delicious, steamy, freshly made rice.

Diner Review №48

Diner Review №49

Diner Review №50

The pad thai is the bomb! I meant to save leftovers but I ate the whole thing, lol

Diner Review №51

Great food. Had the mussaman chicken. Was very flavorful. Quick service.

Diner Review №52

Family owned and operated. They are amazing. The food is incredible.

Diner Review №53

Diner Review №54

Hands down the best Thai around! Authentic, fast and delicious. The customer service is amazing! P

Diner Review №55

Diner Review №56

Diner Review №57

Seriously the BEST Thai food we've had! We ordered Pad See Ew, Drunken noodles, yellow curry, Tom Kha soup, Pad Thai, and spring rolls. All was so delicious! The soup and yellow curry were just a touch too sweet for my palette, but the over all flavor makes up for that.😋 Friendly service.

Diner Review №58

Good massaman curry. Super lovely staff.

Diner Review №59

the pad thai was delicious when I had it a few days ago, really good. So good. Atmosphere and waitress was awesome as well.

Diner Review №60

I used to love this place but the last 2 times I have been here they are closed to dine in even though google maps says they have dine in available.

Diner Review №61

Its a small HOT place with great food and friendly workers. Dont ask for extra spicy unless you can really handle the spice, it will make you sweat.

Diner Review №62

This tiny hole in the wall thai diner is amazing. The woman who took my order was wonderful. Not much of a wait time, and the food was worth it! Little spicy for my wife, but either way this is definitely our new thai spot! Thank you guys!

Diner Review №63

Their drunken noodles are exceptionally good!

Diner Review №64

I give them a 5 because i didn't go there as my timeline said. Must have been my clone. And we know.

Diner Review №65

Before going to this place we called to make sure they are open, they said they were. When we got there we found out that there is no inside dining due to construction. Lady that was talking to us was extremely rude. We ask why she would not let us know the situation with inside dining. Her answer was THE SIGN IS ON THE DOOR!
Seriously?
Anyways, glad they didn't serve inside, place looks like dumpster infested with rats and cockroaches. GROSS!
DO NOT GO THERE!

Diner Review №66

Family owned and operated. Small diner-like atmosphere. Friendly people, great food!

Diner Review №67

Diner Review №68

We found this little spot on our way back from visiting the waterfalls. The service was outstanding and the food was so delicious and satisfying.

Diner Review №69

The food (part of it) was delicious and the service was fast and friendly, but the food started tasting strongly of styrofoam as I was eating closer to the bottom of the styrofoam take out container. Apparently the food was so hot when it was put in that the styrofoam got cooked into it. It actually warped the underside of the styrofoam container, as you can see from the photo. If they insist on using styrofoam, they should line it with parchment paper (aluminum foil is less ideal because it has certain health risks when it holds hot food directly, but it's better than cooked styrofoam). Non-styrofoam is much better. I had to throw out the rest of my food because it tasted like styrofoam. I'll be going elsewhere for takeout until they improve their containers.

Diner Review №70

Amazingly cute and worth it! Staff was totally amazing and fun to be around lol! You need to come and grab a plate !!!

Diner Review №71

Amazing restaurant ran by a lovely family I have been coming here for years with my family and will continue since I have never left without a good experience

Diner Review №72

pad Thai is excellent! Friendly staff treat u like family everytime u come in.

Diner Review №73

The food wasn't that good for it to have been 15 bucks for chicken garlic pepper stir fry. Kinda expected better. I walked out paying $56 and was disappointed also we got stomach aches and ended up on the toilet. I will stick with my usuals that I go to. This isn't it.

Diner Review №74

Such good food! Try the duck.

Diner Review №75

In a relatively quiet stretch of SE Stark Street, nestled between a tire shop and a hair salon, is a tiny cracker box restaurant with some of the most consistently yummy Thai food to be had. Walk in and be greeted by the sunny smile of the woman at the counter. Don't know her name? That's okay. She'll learn yours soon enough. Between bustling to bag up orders, serve drinks, and take calls, you'll come to understand just how hard this mom and pop shop works to serve up great fare.
Chai Thai is a diamond in the rough and a cherished jewel of outer southeast Portland!

Diner Review №76

be aware when you ask for something spicy that it won’t come as such. i’ve had two experiences in a row where i clarify that i want my food a level 3 spice (the highest she says it goes) and my food is absolutely mild. no spice whatsoever. the flavor is good but for people who want some kick i wouldn’t expect that here

Diner Review №77

My absolute favorite Thia restaurant. They make the best food and their menu is anything but basic. With a variety of proteins to choose from and all kinds of fruits, vegetables and spices.
The people are friendly and I love how it’s a small family business. Just serving great food to the local families who support them

Diner Review №78

Diner Review №79

The owner is hilarious and the food is amazing!

Diner Review №80

Diner Review №81

I lived around here for years and never noticed this place. From the outside, it doesn't look welcoming. On the inside, it's great. The person serving was very friendly and accommodating. The food was fantastic. It was very good and came quick. Don't let the outside fool you.

Diner Review №82

The owner told me there was purposely only (4) small shrimp in my entire $18 order of Tom Yum soup. She told me to go to Little Caesar's, or Red Robin next time. I understand inflation, which is what her reasoning was-but paying $3 to switch meats, and only getting (4) small shrimp felt more insulting than her actual insult to me. Each order is about 4 bowls, so only one shrimp per bowl. The soup was too sweet - unlike the owner. The Drunken Noodles were light on chicken, but not offensively so, at least the ratio allowed some meat to spread throughout the dish. So I won't eat there again, but you might want to skip the shrimp upgrade, folks!

Diner Review №83

Inexpensive, unpretentious, cozy and delicious.

Diner Review №84

Diner Review №85

Our noodles were so tasty and I've had lots of different kinds of spring rolls and the ones I got were pretty unique. I really liked them, they stood out from the rest! The lady at the counter was very nice too and she had a big smile, I'll definitely go back

Diner Review №86

Great Thai food and awesome people! I always get the Tom Yum to help me kills any sickness I may be having! I am so glad they are close to me!

Diner Review №87

Here's my all out favorites food my favorites I am so inlove with my rice meal . Two and a half years I found my heart beat. Almost 2023 I am still returning to my most favorite and love Restaurant in Portland,Oregon

Diner Review №88

I've loved this place for years. True family run place. Yea it's tiny but I'll be fine with takeout as long as it's from them. The sign in their window says there going to be closed from December 12 to February 6, I'll be waiting in February

Diner Review №89

An absolute gem! The owner is the sweetest and the food is consistently fantastic! We have friends and family that always want to go when they come to visit. It’s a very small interior but I’ve never had to wait for a seat. I usually grab it on my way home from work and it’s still hot when I eat it 15 minutes later.

Diner Review №90

Amazing Thai! Loved the pad see ew and the Panang curry. And the salad rolls were amazing too!

Diner Review №91

Diner Review №92

The best Thai food in SE! So fresh, authentic, and multi-generational family run! Support this restaurant, you won't be disappointed. It's very small inside so mostly for take-out.

Diner Review №93

Diner Review №94

The place kinda small like a little house turn to restaurant, it’s not a good place to chill. The foods is ok but I believe over price for dishes.

Diner Review №95

I have been coming to Chai Thai since I moved to Portland years ago. It’s one of those tiny ma & pa places that is just a true gem. The food is phenomenal, portions are huge! Joy and the fam are so bright and welcoming. I have not found any other Thai place that can even compete, and on top of that they are more affordable than everyone else, too! I’ve ordered many delicious dishes, but I seem to drift more to the pineapple fried rice, drunken noodles, panang curry, and tom kha soup. Highly recommend giving it a try, you won’t regret it! Just remember they are only open Mon-Fri until 9pm.

Diner Review №96

Okay food. The wonton soup was very good. Not impressed by house fried combination rice. It just didn't have that thai kick to it (not heatwise but aromawise) that I get from thai food carts. A lil more wonton would be nice for price you pay. Gilden triangles would be lot better if not thst sslty. Way too salty. For a hole in wall place, its tad bit on spendy side. The lady however behind the counter is super sweet, hard working and remembers your order exactly. For 3 appetizers I ordered she just scribbled one line and it came out with 3 appetizers. I was tad bit worried if she listened to us order all three..she did. 4 stars bevause of her..otherwise 3.5 Will give it another try and see if different stuff on menu is better. They were busy with phone orders. We waited 20 minutes on street parking on busy stsrk street in our car since it was like death valley nevada in july..lol. Tad bit worried with A-holes zooming by doing 60 in 35 zone on se stark at 140th but thats Portland.

Diner Review №97

I have been looking for the best pad Thai in this city and I think I found it! It’s light, fluffy, not too sugary and made super fresh in the cutest diner-type spot that feels like home. Great service and prices are amazing.

Diner Review №98

I love this little hole in the wall. The food is cooked by owners mother and father. The food there is delicious. I use the order the pineapple shrimp fried rice what peanut sauce. Oh my God no one in this town can make it like this restaurant. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Once you eat there I promise you you will keep going back.

Diner Review №99

Love this place an the owners!

Diner Review №100

I tried their shrimp pad Thai for $13. The pad Thai was pretty bland and there was only 4 tiny shrimp that were grossly over cooked. Very disappointing.

Diner Review №101

Amazing Food! Great Service! And Spicy!

Diner Review №102

Always the best ☺️

Diner Review №103

The prices they have listed online and on here are not accurate. They don't actually have the prices printed on the menu and when I went expecting to only spend on $12 between 2 items from what was posted online, it ended up being almost double. Their excuse being ,"prices at more expensive during lunch"

Diner Review №104

Sweetest old couple runs this place and their food is amazing!!!!

Diner Review №105

Diner Review №106

I love this restaurant, it is a community staple. Their food is fantastic, fresh, and delicious! The staff is very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. This is my go to Thai restaurant. I’m sad when they’re closed but happy that they’re taking a much deserved break.

Diner Review №107

Nice, little restaurant. The Pad Thai is really good! Been here a few times to order take out. The food is fresh, and their Thai iced tea is delicious! Friendly service, and great communication with the owner!

Diner Review №108

Hospitality was lacking but good food.

Diner Review №109

Fantastic food and customer service, yellow curry with tofu is FIRE!

Diner Review №110

My new favorite Thai place for take out!
Super kind people and amazing pad see eew.

Diner Review №111

Diner Review №112

We really miss you guys. We moved to Texas about 8 months ago, and let me tell you... Thai food is nothing like Chai Thai here. Hell, I've never had anything as consistently good as Chai Thai. I'm half considering moving back to Portland just for you guys.

Diner Review №113

Diner Review №114

Amazing. Best Thai food in town.

Diner Review №115

Ilive this place for my lunch and dinner when I work on the eastside

Diner Review №116

I'm sad I didn't know about this place earlier. Good servings, prices, and service. Probably my new go-to for Thai food.

Diner Review №117

Diner Review №118

I was excited to try this place after seeing the high rating. I was extremely disappointed. I ordered the pad see ew with pork and asked for spicy (3/3). What I got was a flavorless mess. Not only was it not spicy, there was no flavor whatsoever. The veggies tasted steamed and the noodles were bland.

Diner Review №119

Diner Review №120

It’s a small homey little place but oh boy is the food fresh & delicious. I’m obsessed with their juicy, thick, sweet mango chunks- mango curry (and I’ve had plenty for a much larger price) My whole family loves this place. The flavors are on point, the price is right & the workers are very sweet. Definitely on my fave list for some Thai to go.

Diner Review №121

Definitely recommend 100%

Diner Review №141

Pretty good choice for Asian food in SE Portland. The food is reasonable and well-made. Small place and not an attractive building, but go inside and try it!

Diner Review №155

Fabulous food! When possible, they’ll be flexible. They’ll add extra veggies for $1, and substitute noodles for rice. Friendly service.

Diner Review №171

Diner Review №172

Diner Review №173

My wife and I have eaten here nearly every Friday for the past 6 months, and each time it has been great.

Diner Review №174

Hi everyone 🙏
Chai Thai, Has very good Thai food. They have been here a long time. I have eaten at least 28 other Thai restaurants in the Portland area and I only found 3 Thai restaurants that the food taste really close to same In Thailand.

Chai Thai is one of those 3. Family run restaurant, Very friendly and very Good Thai food. Check the menu, I know they have something for everyone!! they use the freshest vegetables and the spicy's are spot on. And as for hotness just let them know your not big on the hot chili 🌶️ peppers, say no spice or level 1 usa standard... If you like really hot Thai food, Like I do & (just like in Thailand) let them know Thai level 3 hot. They will fix you right up.

You don't have to believe me, go try it for yourself!!
Only open Monday to Saturday. They are closed on Sunday. Family time.

Diner Review №175

Best drunken noodles ever! Friendly staff. Lots of smiles under those masks.

Diner Review №176

Diner Review №177

Best thai authentic food ever!!!!!

Diner Review №178

Amazing hole in the wall spot here in Portland. The pricing is amazing and the portions are big and tasty. I'm celiac and they always cater to my needs and its nice to know they care to take care of their customers.

Diner Review №179

Best thai food in Portland!! I've tried other places and I'm ALWAYS disappointed, and regret spending money elsewhere!! I love the basil fried rice (all I order lol) !!! The duck soup is tasty too!!!

Diner Review №180

There's no question about it, Chai Thai has the absolute best Thai food around. I wasn't all that crazy about Thai cuisine until I was introduced to this restaurant.

Diner Review №181

Best Thai food in town! Family owned and operated. Try the 3 Flavor Halibut, it’s delicious!!

Diner Review №182

Joy is super sweet, the food is beyond amazing (order from their specials menu). Sometimes I just wished their menu was a little smaller though, people will Def order that one random weird thing they hardly make and judge them by that. They are always busy as heck and seating is limited but order takeout! It's super fast!

Diner Review №183

Always the best thai food in all of Portland. Has ruined all other thai in town, nothing can compare! Thank you Joy!
~D

Diner Review №184

The owners are hard working and so friendly. Lemon grass chicken with extra peanut sauce is my favorite 😋

Diner Review №185

Great food!

Diner Review №186

Hole in the wall places have the best food! I have been coming here for years and feel that they have some of the best Thai food in Portland. Strongly encourage you to try the Pad Ke Mao, my favorite, but everything is very good.

Diner Review №187

Been living near here for long enough to have come sooner, and believe me I have buyers remorse for EVERY THAI RESTAURANT IN PORTLAND AND GRESHAM YAASSSSSS THAT QUALITY, THAT GOOD ITS AT CHAI THAI!

Diner Review №188

THE BEST!! :):):)
Out of all the overrated restaurants out there, this place is the REAL DEAL!

Diner Review №189

Always such great quality and freshness to their plates. Veggies are crips, spice level is on point and customer service is always a 10/10. Order the potstickers and you will regret nothing!

Diner Review №190

Diner Review №191

Best thai in the area! ❤️❤️❤️ Their peanut sauce is the best!

Diner Review №192

Best service and Thai food ever!!! We absolutely loooooove them!!!

Diner Review №193

My go to for pad Thai and salad rolls, the peanut sauce is amazing. Always super friendly and sweet even when they’re super busy.

Diner Review №194

Great food respectful and sweet owner!

Diner Review №195

Outstanding! Halibut!

Diner Review №196

Awesome food, great prices

Diner Review №197

Amazing Pad Thai and ice tea! Plan on coming back again.

Diner Review №198

We live in west Portland and commute out here no problem because it's the best, most traditional Thai food in Portland. Joy is just the nicest person to ever take your order. Her parents bring there amazing Thai cuisine from their hearts to yours. Must have dishes dishes are the chicken pad thai, chicken pineapple fried rice, chicken panang curry with rice and the chicken cashew. Medium is pretty spicy which we love. But it for the faint of heart.

Diner Review №199

Diner Review №200

Little hole in the wall shop that you will DEFINITELY miss if you're not paying attention but it's like a golden needle in a haystack of many many restaurants around Gresham. I absolutely love their yellow curry and have it at least once a week. Very decently priced as well.
