The plate of food I ordered was 17$ The chicken was so dry and rock hard and old. I could not even eat it for 17$!!!! I would expect it to be at least, from somewhat fresh. Pleasant staff and chefs, delicious Thai cuisine. We tried the lettuce wraps and chicken Satay appetizers and both were delicious. There is a definite ginger kick to the lettuce wraps but it was good! For Entrees we tried the Massaman Curry with chicken, the Panang Peanut Curry, and Curry Noodles (KAHO SOI). Everyone loved their entrees!
Dress warmly (layers) in winter as the ceilings on the historic building in downtown Independence are high, and it was a bit cool, however, upon realizing this, the staff bumped up the thermostat and all was well. We dined early and it could be due to high ceilings the room had not fully warmed up yet. The cuisine and staff were both so wonderful, the initial temperature didn't matter at all! 🙂

I had many recommendations for Silk Thai Cuisine but personally I just did not find it very good. I had the pad thai and it was way too over seasoned with lime making it taste very sweet. I ordered tempura in addition because I wasn't feeling the pad Thai and the tempura was extremely bland. My friend ordered salad wraps that were okay but also bland. She had one of their soups (I forget which one) and it was okay. Service was good and they seemed very busy with take out orders so maybe it's just an acquired taste but it's not for me.

I ordered 4 chicken pad Thai and 1 beef, the beef one had a long hair on the top of it so we couldn’t eat it, they all tasted and smelled burnt. They didn’t look burnt but they had a strong burnt taste:( it kind of had a cigarette taste and smell to it:( all the other stuff we ordered tasted great and yummy!

I got food here once and it was pretty good. The next time it was pretty disappointing. The pad thai we got barely any sauce and one little piece of green onion, and the pineapple fried rice didn't come with cashews which is different than what the menu stated. I wouldn't normally care so much, but it was a bit expensive for what we got.

Papaya salad is a favorite for my family.

The food was so flavorful, good portions, reasonable prices and super funny, A tentative and kind staff! We had pumpkin curry and yellow curry with the crispy avocados as our appetizer! Yum yum!

Placed an online order for take-out at 4:15. Arrived at 4:25, knowing that the order is rarely ready on time. Not only was it still not ready, they hadn't even started it. So I asked how long it would take, and the server said 20 minutes. Fine. I left and came back 30 minutes later, because I still didn't trust them. And, once again, it *still* wasn't ready. I had to wait another 5 minutes for food that was 45 minutes late. Save your time and money and go to one of the other Thai restaurants in town.

Amazing! Wonderful service. My husband has ulcers but he loves Curry and every place we've ever gone to has been way too spicy THIS place made it perfect!!!! it was not watered down or anything. It still had amazing great flavors and it was not spicy at all. I really appreciate the extra effort they took to make it as good as they did. I definitely recommend this place over any other place in town or out of town. They always have fresh food and amazing service. Thank you for going above and beyond.

I’ve gotten food delivery from here and it is delicious! Big portions and something you can have leftover for a day or two :) when I get it spicy, the spice doesn’t overpower the dish and I love that because it compliments it instead ! Of course it varies on the spice level.

I’ve gotten the Tom Kha soup and Pad Thai before and they are great!

I ordered the Thai Basil which is listed as one of their most popular dishes which typically means they put the most pride in it. Not this time.

My food had pockets of cold, warm, and hot on one plate. It was like they added cold veggies at the last minute and did not fully cook. It was very off-putting.

My jasmine rice was over saturated with water and was a soggy mess. Cooking jasmine rice is simple in a steamer or rice cooker. How does a restaurant that makes many pounds of it daily mess it up. No quality control or they just don't care, is the simplest answer.

Don't waste you time. Go somewhere else. Anywhere else would have been better today, even the soup kitchen at the mission.

The food here is always amazing. It is easily my favorite Thai restaurant around in the Polk County area. The waiter that served us though was very strange and rude. When he took our order, my dad told him that we also wanted an appetizer of the lettuce wraps in addition to our entrees we were all having. In response to this, the waiter gave us this weird look then proceeded to say “that’s a lot of food, you sure you can eat all that?”. I’m sorry, but I think that’s totally inappropriate to say when a person is ordering. Later on, my mom asked for a Thai iced tea. Again, he made a weird comment and said “That’s gonna charge you extra”. I have never seen this guy before waiting on people. He was originally cleaning tables whenever I saw him there and came in to get food. I don’t know who decided to choose this guy to be a waiter, but they made a bad choice. He was extremely rude!

The food is good, however the service in person and for pickup is the absolute worst I’ve ever experienced. The owner is ALL about the tips, and told me next time I use grubhub to not tip them and tip her directly. I will not be back again. Super sad, it’s a small town with limited options.

Nice place. Good good. The waiter arrived at the table carrying our 3 empty water glasses with one hand, his fingers inside them. Does he have a food handler card? Does he understand how diseases are spread? Yuck. Never going back.

The woman who was working wasn’t friendly at all but she did her job so no problems there. The appetizers were clearly frozen however the chicken satay was good. The golden tofu was strange. Tasted like paper but was also tough and felt immoral to serve. I ordered the pad Thai and although not the worst I’ve had, it was definitely close.

Delicious! I'm so glad we came to Silk Thai while visiting Independence. Our soups and curries were well prepared and flavorful. Highly recommend.

Consistency is tough with so many menu items but they have done pretty good from cook to cook keeping the yummy food, yummy every time. I’m a to go girl or a post mates delivery girl. This location can get busy and everything is fresh. Patience is required but worth it!

This is the best Thai food I’ve had in Oregon. Fresh ingredients, great portions, and the flavors are wonderful. We ordered the pad thai, tom yum noodles, and one of their stir fry dishes. We all left full and happy. They are very friendly as well. I should mention after reading the other reviews that we went on a Friday evening and it was quiet, there were maybe one or two other tables. I have only been once so I’m not sure about consistency when it comes to experience.

Great authentic Thai food!!

Silk Thai is so good. Don’t let the fact that you are in a very demographically white small town fool you. This food is delicious and authentic. We usually get take out but the interior is beautiful and sweet without being too cramped.

All I can say is "Yum"!

Every place has an off day but I will not be returning here. There is an great Thai place in nearby Dallas and two excellent ones in Salem. I joined two friends here for lunch. The waitress was not attentive. When one friend ordered tea she walked away from the table without checking to see if either of us wanted a beverage. We were ahead of any lunch rush, yet we were received our meals one at a and time over five minutes apart. My friends were okay with their food and my calamari was nicely done. The vegetables were served in huge pieces. We needed knifes to eat them politely but none were offered and the waitress unavailable. My vegetables were so under cooked that I brought them home to cook later.

Really great place! Everything was delicious and the service was amazing. Don't miss this gem!!

The best Thai food in the Valley!! Hands down! I lived in Thailand for a year & silk thai is the only place that hits home!
(Be sure to try a little fish sauce in your meal. Trust me.)

The customer service is horrible . I went there yesterday 6.9.23 for the first time. I went there to celebrate my son’s graduation. We got there at 8:30 pm and asked what time they closed as it took a while for someone to come out to help us, the lady who came out was eating and chewing and talking at the same time . She said they closed at 9pm. I said perfect ! Then as I grabbed a menu and try to sit down she said they were closed . After she had told me they closed at 9 pm and it was only 8:30 pm . I said “you said you close at 9 pm “ she said “ no we are close now “ to go orders only. She refused to help me and my son. We left and will never go back again. Not sure if they lady was the owner but if she wasn’t I will like for the owner to know the kind of employees they have and how they are causing them to lose business.

Horrible customer service. I went yesterday after graduation to celebrate. I was there at 8:30pm and when I went in no one was at the front,you could see people in the kitchen and they were ignoring me. I said “hello” a few times, before a lady came out, eating putting her fingers on her mouth and chewing with her mouth open. She didn’t greet us, she was looking at us up and down. We got a menu, and we wanted to order, and the lady said, “To go”, over and over. We said we wanted to dine in. (Mind you there was no one there besides us, so they’d definitely have time to make our food). We said we wanted to dine in and the lady said no, “to go”, we asked what time they closed and she said 9pm, so we asked why we couldn’t dine in if they close at 9 and it’s 8:30pm. She said no, “to go”. So we left. Horrible customer service, and dirty environment. Never coming back here again!

Prompt, friendly service in a nicely appointed location in downtown Independence. The food was excellent. We had the crispy duck curry, pad see ew, and the Thai basil chicken. All were delicious with the right amount of spice.

The problem I have is when placing a pickup order online. I have now on MULTIPLE occasions been forced to wait at least 30-50 minutes after the expected pickup time. When prompted about my order, I seem to be met with a strange sense of confusion/dismissal/condescension from the staff. It’s as if they could honestly care less how long it takes for me to get my order, even after multiple instances of the same issue.
There is always other people waiting who have the same issue.
The food is good, but Monmouth and Independence also suffer from a severe lack of choices for different cuisine options, making this the only Thai option currently.
So I’m stuck with this service if I want something other than a burrito, pizza, or fried food.
Sincerely disappointing.

Been here four times now, and each time we’ve been very happy with our food. Super fresh veggies and great sauces this is now our go to Thai restaurant. Even though we live 25 minutes away.

Astonishingly good Thai food in a beautiful spot! We drove up from Corvallis for a date night and it was absolutely worth the drive. Never had fried avocado before but that was lovely. The mango paradise entrée was absolutely to die for!

Love the food here but had a bad customer service experience yesterday. Just coming off of bereavement and a trip, too tired to cook, I ordered from this restaurant on door dash. Over an hour later than the estimated delivery time, my dasher messaged me to say she had been waiting for my order for an hour. She said it was not too busy and walk-ins were getting food ahead of her and she was still waiting over an hour later. While I don't know if she talked to them to check on the order, I do know that the restaurant had confirmed my order. I tried calling Silk Thai 4 times to see what was going on and their line was never open. Door Dash customer support tried calling also, no answer. Finally, door dash canceled the order and gave me a credit and paid my dasher for her over an hour of wasted time. All of this when I was tired and frazzled after losing my grandmother.

Look at the other low reviews...this is apparently a reoccuring problem with slow/no service and lack of attention to door dash orders.

Ordered pick up on multiple occasions and order time is too long. Last time was over 2 hours from order to receiving food.

Super tasty food, and there is always enough for lunch the next day!

Silk Thai is great!

Yes! it really was that bad. 5 people- only one liked her food.
Appetizer plate with bland rice paper lettuce wraps. Bad.
I had eggplant- it was undercooked and not edible.
My friend had mango fish salad. This had a distinctly rotten smell and made 2 of us gag.
Low mein had chicken was so tough my friend couldn't chew it.
Excellent Thai tea.
But our hot tea was room temperature- we couldn't drink it.
This was a costly lunch for food we could not eat.
This was a second visit for me- the first time food was good so I recommended to my friends for our lunch.
How awful! I am embarrassed.

Almost a year ago I ordered the Fried Veggie Rolls appetizer as take out. There were eight depicted in the online menu photo and eight came in the box. A little over a month ago I ordered them again but got six in the box. The other day I ordered them again and got only four in the box. But there are still eight depicted in the photo. And the price had gone up. It is unlikely I will go to this restaurant again.

Always delicious! They have a great menu selection and a website that has great pics, descriptions and is very easy to order from.

I ordered mango fish salad, eggplant basil and noodles with crispy duck. All is delicious!

The salad dish is my most favorite, the bite size fish is crispy fried, the fresh garden salad coated with aromatic chilli and lime sauce, well balanced with sweet and juicy mango pieces. For pad eggplant and basil, everything is cooked perfectly. This dish is a bit too sweet for my taste but my son ate to the very last bite. Wide rice noodles and crispy duck is my son’ s must-have, we called to make sure they have this particular dish, and yes, it’s the best! The duck was juicy inside and super crispy on the outside, serving on top of garlic and soy sauce rice sautéed noodles. My boy said he wanted to go back for this yummy dish soon.

On top of serving authentic delicious Thai food, the servers of this place were friendly and accommodating. I love their Thai hospitality.

Great Thai food , good service.

My wife is recovering from a surgery and was excited for a meal out. She uses a walker and it takes quite a bit of effort for her to walk even short distances. We seated ourselves as there were only six customers in the restaurant and didn’t see any staff. A very nice young man brought menus and after about 10 minutes a woman came to the table and took our order. Over the next 20 minutes we then watched one order come out of the kitchen one plate or bowl at time It literally took 10 minutes to deliver 4 meals to the same table. Two bowls of rice went by us to the table of four who had the slow motion delivery then were picked up after a few minutes and brought to our table. We then spent 40 minutes staring at the cold rice as only two more meals were carefully delivered to another table one bowl at a time
So an hour after we ordered with about an hour an twenty minutes invested and no food I was reluctant to ask my wife to make all the effort to limp back to the car with out eating. We then decided this wasn’t really a restaurant but a cruel joke being played on hungry people. Alternatively we had somehow become invisible as no one had offered us a beverage an explanation or and apology for the wait or even acknowledged our existence for so long. (Hunger plays strange tricks on your mind)
Painfully my wife decided it was time we cut our losses We gathered up our things and she limped out to order a pizza and pick it up on the way home If you decide to visit Silk Thai I strongly suggest you block out a couple hours and bring a snack

Been here many times. Great food. Tonight I waited an hour and a half to receive food after calling it in. No apology or acknowledgement that it was an obscenely long wait. I'm not sure I would have even gotten food at all without checking in a couple times. Several folks who placed orders far after me were served first. I understand the world is understaffed and I'm generally the first to extend that grace, but this needs to be figured out. Too expensive for service that poor.

So delicious !!!!! Cute environment, tons of choices on the menu, beautiful presentation, generous portions.

This restaurant was great we tried the Samm Kasat (three kings) House special and Crispy Duck Curry another house special. We highly recommend, the servers were friendly and the food was fantastic! Thank you so much for getting us in and with food so quickly. The picture doesn't do it justice this is our leftovers the next morning after being cold in the fridge, but trust me this place is worth it! We will see you next time :-)

The food is delicious. The only reason I didn't give it more stars is because the service was terrible. We waited quite awhile for them to take our order. We ordered our food and we ordered beverages and they forgot about the beverages until our food came out and we asked about our drinks.
They never checked in on us to see if we needed anything else after the food was delivered.
I understand why there is a lot of takeout vs done in.

Went here with my manager and it was absolutely amazing 👏 the portion and price is very reasonable. The flavors were very good with just the right amount of kick in the right places. I ordered the Pad Thai with chicken and a spice level of 3. It was delicious and different in a way that I liked. It had a crunch of some sort that I believe would be sugar granules. It was unpleasant at first but I grew to like it. Definitely will return to try again. I also tried the Tom Kha soup recommended by my manager and it was a wonderful blend of flavors that wasn't too strong but left behind really good notes. Good Job to the staff and the cooks! Will definitely recommend👍

Great authentic food

We got takeout of the office and everything people ordered was delicious and wonderful. I had the peanut lovers and it was amazing. Will do again!

Must have been in a black hole table last night. We finally got some water. Took forever for them to take our order and then we never got our food. After over an hour watching everyone else get served, we finally left. BTW, they were not crowded; only four other 2 top tables were occupied.
Sad, because in the past we have really enjoyed their food.

Food is fabulous. We got it togo. Inside could use a little sprucing up of the atmosphere, but it was clean and staff was kind.

Tried this place Saturday (7-9-22) for dinner. Ordered coconut shrimp, Also tried spicy shrimp, eggplant and green beans. I was told 20 minutes. it took 45 minutes. Food was just warm and bland. Eggplant was mushy, green beans and shrimp was ok. For the price I expected better. I don’t plan on going back.

Tried this place for first time and as many have said they seem to truly struggle with time management. It was a Saturday evening so perhaps we can give them a break…now let’s move on to the food, my husband ordered the spicy shrimp/eggplant/green bean dish…it was not spicy at all even though he requested extra spicy. I ordered the flank steak in pepper sauce, steak was very chewy. Biggest complaint was with the lettuce wraps…swimming in a watery “sauce” but came with such small lettuce leaves there was no way to do any wrapping at all, complete fail on those. Not sure if we will go back or not.

Friendly, family run restaurant feels a bit of a homie atmosphere during the slow hours. While the dinner rush brings a buzz of noise in the crowded dining room and kitchen. It's possible to find yourself waiting during dinner rush.. Your patience will be rewarded gratefully. Reservations recommended most nights of the week.

Thai restaurant is exceptional! The food is fantastic and fresh, the service is awesome, and I really appreciated how clean and elegant the location was. You absolutely should go here for a meal out!

I ordered through DoorDash and made sure to include the allergy (listed on the receipt). There is clearly cashews all over my daughter’s meal.

This is the SECOND time they have done this so now I feel like I need to say something and I am also wondering if it’s a common issue they have. Pretty scary for anyone who has allergies/has a kiddo with allergies. So glad I caught this before my 3 year old got to it. It could have been much, much worse.

Honest and subdued Thai food. Different tones and takes of traditional Thai classics. Will be back to explore more items on the menu. Tom Ka seafood does hit adequate notes of flavor. The lemongrass seafood is also very generous with a variety of seafood.

Unfortunately, this place has become disorganized, inaccurate, and inconsistent. We order regularly from this restaurant, and it used to be consistently good. Last week, I called in an order on my way home from work. I arrived 30 minutes later, only to be told that they had forgotten to give my ticket to the kitchen after the waitress scrambled around frantically for several minutes. She told me she could have it ready in 10 minutes. I had just gotten off a long shift, and was running on minimal sleep, but I agreed to wait. 20 minutes later, she brought out the order. I took it outside to the bench in front of the restaurant to verify the order was right, and discovered they had missed a dish completely. I went back inside to tell the hostess this, and she said "Oh, sorry, I only charged you for one." I had told her on the phone we ordered 2 mango paradise dishes, and I repeated it to her again in person when I arrived to pick up my order. She said she could have the 2nd mistake fixed in "5 minutes."... As I was sitting and waiting, she approached me with a ticket and asked me to pay for the dish they had missed. I had been understanding and polite, but I was astonished that she was asking me to pay for the dish they missed, especially since it was now onto the 2nd mistake they had made with my order. She made it sound like they were going to give me the 2nd Mango Paradise dish that they had missed for free because of their mistake when I alerted them, so I was super confused. I told her that unfortunately, I would not be paying for the dish since we were now 2 mistakes deep and over an hour and 10 minutes since I called in the original order. She glared, walked away, and returned with my dish about 5 minutes later. I couldn't believe how this situation was handled. I'm not sure if she was new or just flustered, but I was very disappointed. We've spend hundreds at this restaurant since it opened. I explained what had happened to my fiance, and he didn't even want to eat the 2nd dish because he was afraid maybe something nefarious had been done to it.

Tonight, I gave them another chance and ordered through Doordash. We didn't receive any dipping sauce for our crab puff appetizer. I'm not sure what has changed with this restaurant as of late. The last few Doordash orders have had issues with either the dishes being watery and lacking flavor/spice when we order a 4 star spiciness level, or items have been missing. 2 orders ago we received a call from the restaurant saying they forgot to send an appetizer, which caused the poor dasher to have to return to the restaurant to retrieve it. We tipped her a 2nd time for Silk Thai's mistake. We miss the old, consistent, accurate Silk Thai. I'm very disappointed about our last few orders.

I had many recommendations for Silk Thai Cuisine but personally I just did not find it very good. I had the pad thai and it was way too over seasoned with lime making it taste very sweet. I ordered tempura in addition because I wasn't feeling the pad Thai and the tempura was extremely bland. My friend ordered salad wraps that were okay but also bland. She had one of their soups (I forget which one) and it was okay. Service was good and they seemed very busy with take out orders so maybe it's just an acquired taste but it's not for me.

The person I spoke with was disrespectful. Said whatever when he couldn't understand my name on the phone. Told me he didn't deliver and that he was too busy to assist me. The food is delicious. It's unfortunate that I had a negative experience.

Highly disappointed. There was zero flavor. It tasted like literally nothing but oil was in the dish. I asked for #3 spice and I could see if it was mild to my standard but I don’t think there was any spice. I had to add sriracha to add some kind of flavor.

Good notes, it was still hot when getting home. The veggies were fresh.

My wife and I were looking for something new and decided to take a quick trip over to Independence to give Silk Thai Cuisine a try. We both looked over the menu prior to going and noted several dishes that interested us.

I landed on the Crispy Duck Curry. The flavor was amazing with the right amount of heat from the spice. The duck was tender with crispy skin. The portion size was great with a perfect ratio of meat to veggies.

My wife had the Cashew Nuts with chicken which she really enjoyed. Again, the portions were generous.

We look forward to going back and trying some other dishes soon. Sorry, forgot to get pictures as each of our meals looked delicious and we couldn't wait to dive in.

My family loves this place! Both of my boys are obsessed with the Pad Thai but especially my almost one year old. Our new go to when we eat out.

Really fresh tasting. I would give them 5 stars but every time I ask for 'not spicy hot, it is very spicing hot. I'd hate to see what extra spicy hot would taste like.

I have ordered their food 3 different times. I will try it one more time. If it's still hot spicy I'm going back to the Thai food in Independence, OR.

Favorite Thai good place in Independence! Their tea is soooo good and the pad thai was the perfect spiciness for my liking.

If you order, do not go through Doordash. The ticketing system only picks up Doordash orders one at a time, so you don't really know if your order is being made. I sat here for 30+ minutes past the pickup time wondering if I should buy the food again directly or wait to see if it would actually get the food.

One of the best thai food that I have eaten till date.
We tried tom yum soup, papaya salad which was very good, a pallete of appertizers, red thai curry with rice.
The service was great….
Highly recommend this place

Called for take out and was told 25 minutes. I waited the 25 minutes came inside paid and then waited another half an hour for my food. Definitely don’t go if you want food somewhat fast.
