Familiar Thai & Chinese specialties are on the menu at this casual neighborhood eatery.
Typically, I’m not a fan of Asian cuisine, but Nong’s Hunan Express changed my mind with their exceptional fried rice. This dish alone was enough to impress with its perfect blend of flavors and textures, making every bite memorable. The menu, as captured in the photos, offers a variety of traditional and modern dishes that seem inviting, even to someone with a cautious palate like mine.
The restaurant displays its offerings on a comprehensive menu that includes everything from Lo Mein Noodles to Chef Specials, each described in detail, providing a clear picture of what to expect. The interior of Nong’s features charming decorations like the Maneki-neko cats, which add a touch of cultural authenticity and warmth to the dining experience. These iconic figurines are not just decor but are believed to bring good luck, enhancing the welcoming ambiance.
Moreover, the vibrant pictures of the food displayed over the counter promise delicious meals and seem to validate the quality and appeal of their dishes. Whether you’re a fan of Asian food or an occasional adventurer like myself, Nong’s Hunan Express seems to have something to delight various tastes.

I’ve ordered here a few times now and I gotta say this is my new favorite Chinese restaurant. You can tell all the ingredients are super FRESH. The chicken dishes I got came with thinly cut chicken that was really tender and delicious. Now when they put the spicy icon next to something, they mean it lol! So proceed with caution if you’re sensitive to spicy things.
As far as appetizers go, I’ve tried the chicken egg roll, crab rangoon, chicken wings, and dumplings. The wings were a really nice size and juicy. I was a fan of the rangoon and dumplings. The egg roll was good, but I found it to be a little greasy.
The customer service is top notch and the interior of the restaurant is nice as well. Overall, this place is excellent and I would recommend giving it a try!
Love the lady who owns Nong’s Hunan Express. She is so kind. The food is very good and portions are generous. Delivery is available if that is what you need. What’s also nice is if you are a student at OSU you can use your Buck-ID to order through GrubHub. This is a good way to spend those extra dining dollars. You won’t be disappointed. I know we will definitely eat here often. There is a small dining area seating approximately 30 people or carry out is available. They also cater and will prepare food for your special occasion, meeting or event. Call for catering prices. Support your local restaurant owner.
Absolutely some of the best tasting Chinese food around. A great menu for all. Dining in you’ll find it clean and service with a smile.
Rating is based purely on the food.
The worst rice I have ever had ! It tastes like dog food, couldn't stomach to eat one bite. And I love rice! Normally it'll taste like that when it's old or past it's should be used by date.
The chicken was not any better
( that is this rat meat chicken)
So chewy and hard lots of fat and tissue. Not much "chicken" in the pieces of chicken
Spring rolls hardly had any filling not to bad though .
Egg rolls stuffed full and had a weird flavor.
Lo main was not bad
Hair on the sauce container wasn't great but no big deal if it wasn't on my food.
All and all was not tasty and not recommended to anyone. Price wise It's not cheap 53$ for takeout for what we got.
If you have not been here recently, it is under new ownership. Everything is different. There is an entirely new menu, and there is no more Thai food.
The interior has been redone so it looks different.
I opted for a lunch special with curry chicken spicy. All the ingredients were very fresh and the food was very tasty, I really enjoyed my curry chicken.
I took a combo and I chose an egg roll, something I'm usually not super excited about, but, I really enjoyed this one. The thing that really helped was that they have a very good mustard and a very good sweet sauce with it. My wife's favorite Chinese restaurant uses pre-packaged mustard and sweet sauce that are not very good. You won't see that here. They're sauces were absolutely outstanding. I would come back here again just so I could have an egg roll with that crazy spicy mustard.
The drinks are in bottles and cans so they have a mix so I was able to get my favorite, Coca-Cola. One of my friends got a mountain dew and a bottle.
So, if you have not been here in a while, be sure to come back in and check it out.
That I mentioned that the lunch special was very nicely priced.
Absolutely some of the best tasting Chinese food around. A great menu for all. Dining in you’ll find it clean and service with a smile.
Yummy. I had crab rangoon and chicken fried rice. Both were delicious. Fried rice was heavy on rice, medium amount of egg and chicken, and low on veggies. Crab rangoons were pretty big with a lot of filling.
The food is very tasty and good
Great food! The staff is kind and friendly, great service!
The only complaint I have is styrofoam containers for rice and plastic bags for takeout. I would prefer a paper bag and a recyclable container for rice
The food was delicious, it's a cozy little spot, and the servings were huge!!!! It was great, will be here again.
I love Nongs and the new operator is so nice and friendly! ☺️

The staff were friendly and the food delicious. The chicken egg rolls were perhaps the best I have eaten in years. Recommended!
This is the best chinese food ive ever had from anywhere and I love chinese food. The flavors are extremely well balanced, spice level is perfect, and portions are generous. Highly Highly recommend.
Wow! Best Kung Pao chicken I’ve ever had. Soo good. Will definitely be back.
The owner is amazing. The food is very good never had any problems with food or staff. I had many things and are hands down the best food and cooks
Dependable Chinese American food at a reasonable price. Mostly for carryout.
A vegetarian’s dream! I have been a vegetarian for almost 6 years now and I have always wanted to find a vegetarian alternative to teriyaki chicken that actually tastes like and has the same texture and Nong’s tofu killed it! Obsessed! (Ordered through Grubhub, no idea what the inside looks like to comment on anything else!)
Always good food and perfect for lunch. Always have order ready for my whole office in less than 10-15 minutes.
Best pad Tai ever!
I love this place, all the food, the prices and the lady that owns it
1st time to try Nong's and dined in. Fantastic food ! This will be a frequently visited restaurant.
Food lacks in flavor and quality. Very disappointing.
I don't live in the area, but when I a, and I want good takeout, I go to Nong's. The people are polite and down to earth. The menu is EXTENSIVE! If you can't find something good in the menu, you probably aren't hungry! The dining area is clean and cozy. And there is decent off street parking!
I just had Nong's today for the first time in a while. It was good before, but this visit was exceptional. The staff is super friendly and wait on you hand and foot. The food is so good my wife ate herself into pain. Definitely recommend it.
Sweet and sour chicken and the pad Thai were delicious.
Fast! Friendly! Delicious! I got the General Tso chicken and it was fantastic. Best in the city. Friendly when we came and picked up!
New and super yummy! Loved them!
Food is greasy, expensive and completely bland. Listen to the 1 star reviews, I didn’t and we were completely disappointed with the garbage that was served as food. Also, for the price, the portions are small. They also lack meat. Overall, truly disappointing. You have to really hate food if you think this place is good.
I’ll stick with Sun Tong Luck.
WOW! What service and what great food! Ordered over the phone, drove 2 miles, paid and my food came out 30 seconds later piping hot! Crab Rangoon was large, full of stuffing and very flavorful. Will order here again and again!
Enjoyed lunch with a few friends. Good food, good service.
Delicious 😋
I ordered takeout on 8/21/23. I have had really delicious Chinese food from this restaurant before, but not tonight. The egg foo young was so bad, it was inedible. The egg rolls were greasy and tasteless. The stir-fry veggies were OK but really lacked flavor. The fried rice had a weird texture and tasted bad. We spent $35 for takeout food that we could not eat. When I called to communicate our disappointment, the lady was defensive, not apologetic. She did offer a credit, which I did not take. What would I do with a credit at a place that I have no desire to return to? I do not plan to return.
I like the pad thai.
Food has greatly improved with its new ownersship! Curry is fantastic and the Pad Thai too. So much flavor and just the right amount of heat. Fresh ingredients and generous portions. Looking forward to trying everything else on the menu.
If you have not been here recently, it is under new ownership. Everything is different. There is an entirely new menu, and there is no more Thai food.

Fresh, tasty and quality ingredients. It's been a few years since I've had Nong's and so glad I tried them again. I’m not sure what has changed but all of their food has been amazing! I now order weekly for my Asian fix.
Delicious and very clean
I have visited here several times and have never been disappointed! The Szechuan Chicken and Curry Chicken are the best I've had in a long time! The Egg Rolls are also fresh and delicious. The combination meals are a great deal, and the portions are excellent. Parking can be a challenge with the shared space, so plan ahead.
Fantastic food, always friendly staff. Definitely a hidden gem!
First time trying food from here. Pickup order. Inside very nice and clean and the people there are very nice, helpful, and friendly. I ordered Beef Chow Ho Fun, egg rolls, and crab rangoon which were buy one get one free. First time trying Beef Chow Ho Fun so I was shocked by the huge portion I received! This dish was tasty and filling and full of bean sprouts, which I love! The beef was very tender as well. The ONLY reason I gave it four stars was because the crab rangoon wasn’t to my liking. I prefer a sweeter filling and theirs was not. Their sweetness relied on the homemade sauce- which was good but I’d rather have the rangoon that is sweet on it’s own with no sauce needed (my preference).
Used to eat here all the time, Best hot and sour soup and Best Chicken and eggplant.
NEW OWNER.
I hate it when someone takes over a restaurant and completely changes the menu but keeps the name.
They need to change the name.
It was NOT the Nongs i was expecting.
Hot and sour soup tastes like every other fast food Chinese. Chicken was chewy, as well as the beef. Spice was good though. Still, not the same.
Vegetarian Phad Thai was very good. My only disappointment was the lack of vegetables, despite ordering extra. Sauce was good. Large portion.
Nice, clean little place with very good food and friendly people.
My food was not good.
This place is amazing. If it says spicy on the menu, you better like spicy, because it is! The family is very nice and live what they do. Now my go-to Chinese food
Came late on Christmas with my fiancé and the place was clean and the food was absolutely amazing. Awesome job guys, great place.
1st time back since ownership changed, Christmas Day at 6p, not an easy task. The food is much better now, and the service is exceptional. I can’t wait to go go back.
What a relief to have this wonderful restaurant open on Christmas Day! Despite being absolutely slammed, they delivered exceptional service and delicious food! I live across the city, but I will always give them my business because of the kindness they showed. Thank you!
First time here, won't be the last! Great wonton and sweet and sour soup. Egg rolls and spring rolls, hot and crunchy. Singapore noodles and Szechuan beef. Great flavor on everything and generous portions, two meals easy. Friendly staff and owner greeted everyone. About 15 minutes longer than their initial 15 minute estimate, yet well worth the wait!!!
Love the lady who owns Nong’s Hunan Express. She is so kind. The food is very good and portions are generous. Delivery is available if that is what you need. The food and service here are great!! The food was really hot and fresh. I ordered the szechuan tofu with fried rice and it was perfectly spicy and so good! My friend ordered the General Tso’s tofu with white rice and it was the best tofu we have ever tried. We both ordered spring rolls and they were so large and crispy. The food was an excellent value, it was really hearty and the regular was a lot of food for me. The owner and her daughter were really sweet and I am definitely coming here more often!
Good food, good service and good price 👍
New management means a fresh, tasty menu in a nice setting. The portions are large and the prices very reasonable!
Went to Nong's Hunan Express for dinner and I ordered - crab rangoon, lemon chicken and chicken lo mein.
Crab Rangoon was great - crispy and a bit sweet, it was served with a sweet-n-soup sauce. Lemon chicken was fried battered chicken with pineapples and lemon slices topped with a sweet sauce, this came with a bowl of rice. I don't prefer meat items with sweet taste so this was a wrong choice. To get a spicy food, I ordered chicken lo mein of medium hotness - this had broccoli florets, sliced carrots, sweet peas and chicken. For hotness, they sprinkled chilli flakes.
The restaurant has a homely atmosphere and the lady serving the foods is very cordial. I saw people coming to pick up foods and a couple was also dining there.
If you like different kinds of noodles and meat preparation, you can give it a try.
The food is fantastic and the lady who takes orders is just the sweetest.
A hidden treasure very good Chinese/Thai food and very pleasant people
Rating is based purely on the food.

All and all was not tasty and not recommended to anyone. Price wise It's not cheap 53$ for takeout for what we got.
I’ve gone here since I was a toddler with my family, still my favorite restaurant.
One of THE BEST Thai/Asian places in town, and underrated no matter how much good you say about this place. Fresh veggies, perfectly cooked meat and seafood, expertly seasoned. Soooo tasty, from the spicy wontons, the Phad Thai, and the other noodle dishes, to the crab rangoon and everything else.
Thorough, fast service and they clearly use fresh ingredients/recipes.
Really nice menu. Service was very good. I want to go back to try some of the Thai food.
I've been getting their Pad Thai for a couple of decades. I've had this dish at many places in Columbus. Nong's is my favorite. And the lady that takes orders is the most pleasant!
The best place for Thai food hands down!!!
Oily disgusting barely edible. Would not recommend.
Hands down the worst General Tso’s Chicken I’ve ever had. The fried rice had no flavor and the chicken was chewy and without much flavor. I threw most of it away. Won’t be going back.
Excellent quality...when I'm in the area my stomach automatically craves Nongs Hunan Express.
We've been searching for our new favorite Chinese restaurant since we moved to Columbus in April. We think we found it here. Very good food.
I have no words to describe how awful this place is from the dining area to the food... SMDH such a disgrace....
Bought lunch for me and the mizzes. I ordered their combo (chicken, beef and shrimp over fried rice. There were 3 pieces of shrimp, overcooked, no little chicken and no beef. The rice was undercooked and tasted like it was made in 2019. Their spring rolls weren't much better. No chopsticks either.
There are better places for Chinese food.
Thai food is not authentic and it pricey for a small portion
Delicious! Every time.
Highly recommended for Pad Thai lovers and Chinese lovers. 100% authentic mom and pop experince. Great Egg Rolls, Lo Mein, and Pad Thai.
Me and my boyfriend both got Phad thai (he got chicken and I got vegetable) and it was pretty flavorful. Not the best phad thai EVER but definitely good if you’re trying to stop a craving.
Nongs was my go to pad Thai in Columbus. Some of the best especially for the price. However tonight was extremely disappointing, my first time ordering here during the pandemic. I know everything is lacking in the restaurants these days, Quality, Service flavor etc. but the Pad Thai was extremely disappointing tonight. Maybe wait for some normality before ordering from here.
Some of the best chinese/Thai take out with several vegetarian dishes
Best Panang in town.
Always a delight, I haven't really haf anything bad here and great priced.
I saw the high rated reviews, so I thought to give it a try. I ordered Pad se-ew. The noodles were mushy, the dish lacked flavor, but the level of desired spiciness was good. Friendly service, but I have definately had better Thai food elsewhere. I was not impressed and would not recommend this resturant. I'm sorry to report that I was not impressed, and I will not return.
Best thai food in columbus
Foods amazing
Great food at great prices, and the staff is very friendly and attentive.
Probably some of the best panang I've had in Columbus. Fresh, super spicy and delicious.
Love this place good hot tasty food wish they had delivery.
Nong's is a very small spot but has great service and very good food. I went with the Almond Ding with white rice and a diet coke (can). Fountain soda would have been nice but a can was just fine. Worth checking out if you like the throwback dining experience with not a lot of fluff.
Very good food and kind staff. Just know spicy means SPICY, they don't mess around.
Clean restaurant, inexpensive prices and low sodium (salt).
Went here with my friend. Good food, friendly people: it's a charming small buisiness
A nice carry-out place. The owner cooks the food himself. Both him and his wife are very nice. Here are my favorite menus: pad-se-ew (stir fried big noodle in thick sweet soy sauce....so good), Lad-na noodle soup, tom-yum fried rice, and of course, fried chive dumplings!!! (the only place in Columbus that has this menu that reminds me of Thai street food in Bangkok....yum yum). I would recommend try their tofu menu too. I love their perfect fried tofu in any dishes.
Pretty good lunch spot. Small place probably seats about 25 or so. We were in, ordered, ate, and on our way rather quickly.
I order Nong's pork fried rice from the Thai page of the menu. Great flavor and a good size for lunch or dinner.
Close to work so it will be in the lunch rotation from now on.
I like this place. Five stars for tasty food, fast service, nice people, reasonable prices.
However, some pointers for management: Get a kids menu and I'll come with my whole family, my kids love Asian food and we don't currently have a great place to go to for Thai. Also, improve the decor, and play some music for your guests. It would be great if you guys could move to a drive-through location like Pho Asian Noodle on Lane Ave. It's a lot easier to pick up dinner at a drive-through when you have little kids in the car!
Good Chinese and American Chinese food. I had the schezuan Tofu and it was great. Affordable too.
Best Thai in town
Food is good but it's really small.
Their fried rice dishes are the best!
Fast, friendly service. Favorites are sub gum wonton and tom yum soup. Food is consistently good and the tom yum is my go-to cure for whenever I feel like I'm coming down with a cold. It's the best!
Hands down the best Pad Thai in Columbus. The prices are very affordable. You can customize your level of spice for each dish. I’ve been coming here for nearly 20 years now and am never disappointed. The owners are wonderful people and feel like family. Cannot recommend highly enough.
Very small portions and high prices. Very standard everything. Nothing special.
some of the best Thai food in town. I would go out of my way to eat here again. its that good.
Nong's Hunan Express has been in the Fifth by Northwest neighborhood of Columbus [at the northeast corner of the intersection of King Ave. and Northwest Blvd.] since 1989.
The food is consistently delicious; this restaurant is rarely crowded [at least whenever I eat there].
Their menu [Thai and Chinese food] is quite large and includes many vegetarian options; their service is wonderful.
Their bathroom is not visible from the dining room; however, if you ask at the ordering counter, they will let you use the employee bathroom that is at the back of the kitchen.
Been dining here since 2009. I always get the sesame chicken. Friendly staff.
Great Thai food, but took star off for just having can pop.
I always get the gang curry. Best curry I’ve had in Ohio! Our kids even have things they like here (sweet and sour chicken). We eat here about once a week and always look forward to next time!
Love the Gang Curry!
A small friendly restaurant gives you a sense of Vietnam street food.
Waitress smiled pleasantly as soon as we walked in. Very fast pleasant service. A great selection of classics and house dishes to chose from. Dedicated parking and an easily seen location from the street make accessability easy. Dine in or take out. Very clean dining area. Tables and utensils clean. Nice decor and relaxing environment. Will definitely be returning whenever I'm in town. Close to osu campus.
Peanut thai sauce is amazing here😋
Best Thai in town!
Very good food. Operated by the owners. Very friendly.
Good food
Best Pad Thai in Columbus!
It doesn't get much more authentic than this.
Be forewarned, they don't fu*k around with their spice. If you want the kiss of death followed by the ring of fire then tell them you want it spicy. Otherwise, there's no shame in getting yours mild.
Super good food overall!
Very yummy... Just go!
Amazing food, personable staff!
Love getting that Gang Curry Tofu!
One of the best Asian restaurants! Number 1 on my list!
Nong's has been here for a long time and I've only recently discovered their good old school Chinese restaurant style food, like char har kew and the like. It was tasty and I look forward to trying their other menu items, like the Thai dishes. I was happy with their lunch combo because it was a decent price and portion.
I probably eat here once a week. My favorites are Pad See-Ew and Pad Thai.
This place is amazing. I always get the Gang Curry Beef. I've been coming here for three years now, and the people here are like family. 10/10 would definitely reccomend!
This place used to be good, but last night I was disappointed. Our noodle dishes were supposed to be Medium but were not spicy at all. I'm not sure what Mild would mean!
Also the Pad Thai, which any place with a Thai menu should be able to do well, was overwhelmed with lemon juice, to the exclusion of other flavors.
Generous portions, though, if that's something you like.
Great place for Chinese and Thai dishes.
excellent service
Hours say they're open til 9:30. Don't count on that. I came in at 9 o'clock and they refused to serve me in the restaurant. Carry-out only they say. Well you just lost a customer thanks for nothing.
My husband and I have been going here for over 19 months. We love it! We usually get the dishes cooked with coconut milk, but we have tried other dishes. We have never had a bad experience. You can control your food's spicy level.
Food and portions were good. The inside isn't the nicest but has a home feel.
Worse experience going into this restaurant. The owner is extremely rude, the food is disgusting, and to sum it all up both my boyfriend and I got food poisoning from this place. We ordered some chicken coconut soup that made us both extremely sick. I'm making an official complaint to the health food department about this establishment.
The Mongolian Chicken and work su gai was very good.
The worst Chinese I have ever had..wouldn't go back if it was free!!
Dirty. Good enough food.
Excellent food. I go there mainly for the Thai dishes, not the Chinese.
Prices are moderate.
Parking lot is small and crowded, and because of their location on Northwest Boulevard you can only turn to the right when leaving, but those are small nits.
Great food, good prices, big portions. Try it, it is worth it
The food has always been excellent and the service is always great as well. I think the interior is cozy and charming. I've never been disappointed!
Also great for curing hangovers!
I wouldn't recommend eating in their restaurant (it's terribly bland), but their takeout is very good.
