We eat here frequently because it’s always consistently good. The food is always hot and fresh. You can tell the ingredients are super fresh. Large portions for the money. We always have leftovers and they are always great later. This is a must try if you’re in Winston Salem.
The Pad Thai and Chicken Lettuce Wraps were pretty good. They usually get really busy on weekends around dinner time so you have to time it well. It’s a nice place to meet up with friends or dine by yourself. The staff is accommodating and food comes out in a timely manner. The prices aren’t too bad, not too steep.
We live out of state and have been here a few times over the years. The food is good but sometimes a bit heavy on salt. Pictured are two rolls and a crusted chicken with a peanut sauce. The chicken was excellent but the peanut sauce was a bit salty for me. Rolls were good. Our waitress was also handling behind the bar duties and did an excellent job.
They never disappoint. Honestly, I’ve never tried any of the hot plates other than the chicken lettuce wraps bc I come here for the sushi. And the sushi is absolutely delicious. I always eat at the bar and service is stellar and occasionally the manager/owner comes around to ensure you are happy with your meal and service. See photo, sushi is a work of art.
Had a great experience here last night. All the staff was very friendly and attentive. Food was great, especially the walnut chicken and chicken lettuce wraps. Nice drink selection too. Really good atmosphere, especially for a date night.
Maybe it was an off day for the chef
I don't see myself coming back to this restaurant. I came here for lunch once and got the hibachi chicken bowl and it was amazing. I decided to bring my significant other out to dinner here and I was disappointed to see that the hibachi chicken bowl was not on the menu and that particular dish was the whole reason I came back to this restaurant. We ordered the magnolian beef and kung Pao chicken which was okay. Our server did not introduce themselves like any other restaurant. Server was never very pleasant and acted like they didn't care. There was a man who came around to collect any empty plates at your table and he is very pushy with this specific task. I wasn't done eating my appetizer and he was already trying to remove my plate from the table when there was still crab wontons on the plate. There was another man who was bringing food to other tables and he looked nasty. He had long hair that was not covered with a hair net. I watched him bring plates of food to a table then walked off and started digging in his ear with his fingers. Then I watched him bring another plate of food to another table and when he walked off he pulled his phone out of his pocket and was on his phone the whole time he was walking back to the kitchen. Luckily this man did not serve us our food because I honestly wouldn't have wanted it after everything I witnessed. It seemed very unsanitary if you ask me.
Not tables available when we arrived, chose to eat at the bar, sat for about 10 minutes ,no bar tender , finally someone arrived, we were told we were going to get excellent service, did not happen, ordered 2 draft beers and 2 glass wine took a long time to get the drinks, took longer till they finally took our order, ordered 2 more drafts took a very long time again, although the food was delivered in a timely manner the bar service was not, later ordered 2 shots Jameson, never got it, very poor service
Great food nice staff.
Great food
Enjoyable food, nice atmosphere, a little too much sauce but we always enjoy ourselves.
Best Chinese food in the area! Great lunch deals! This is our favorite place to eat!
Food was great like always flavor the quality of the food spectacular
Our waiter was Gael very good job 💯
I been coming here for a while now and i love the food the service and the people there
Excellent food and great service. Spiciness is right to the point.
Flavors are on point and service is great. Been here 3 times and everything we have gotten has been incredible. Try the brownie for dessert - trust me, it is well worth the price!
Always great food and great service.
Never received our apps, probably because our server was in the bathroom (as she informed us when she came back to check on us 🤢)
Food was cold, in fact the entire restaurant was freezing due to the wind tunnel created every time someone opened the door.
Very bad place very unfriendly
Good food try some it's worth the cash
My first visit. I enjoyed the spicy tuna roll and also the general tso chicken. Excellent service and food was served hot and freshly prepared.
The Mongolian tofu and the Szechuan tofu or out of sight. I could eat my weight in it.
Awesome place assumed just another Asian resturant, turned out to be cool vibes
music playing, warm, servers were nice ,
though seems like my water refill was on Mars, pretty awesome food, sushi quality was good enough that I trusted eating new fish I didn't know.
Main course was better than anything I could have made.
Had Armani as our server, she was great. Place looked like a better PF Changs. Skip the fried rice, a little pricey, and tasted a little burnt but the sushi was fantastic
The food is absolutely amazing always delicious. The restaurant interior and atmosphere is beautiful. Food is priced nicely with incredible portions. Take out service is iffy with timing sometimes; still deserves 5 stars.
Second time here first time the food was good. This go round was not so good my noodles were dry the rice had this funky taste to it and so did the chicken probably won't be back.
The authenticity of the flavor of the Singapore noodles tastes horrible. Lacking the flavor, it is very dry.
The food is really good but the pick up boxes are not very good. Because many of their meals have fluid in them, it leaks out of the containers.
Beautiful restaurant and delicious food! You can't go wrong!
First time dining and definitely not the last!
Joy was our server and was an absolute joy! (Couldn't resist saying that)
Seriously excellent and prompt service :)
Food was delicious - Mongolian beef and coconut curry soup
Just wonderful.....staff was awesome 😉😚
Great place to go it has become one of my regular places to eat at. Atmosphere and food quality are second to none
Excellent... !!! Djspee !!!
The food was fantastic!!!!
Food was very good and servers were very friendly. They checked on us regularly.
Best Asian food in Winston-Salem
Reservation for 6:15pm on a Sat went smoothly, straight to a seat. Service was extremely slow, more so 1hr waiting on food to the point wife felt we were forgotten about (not waitress fault, good waitress). Food is generally good after multiple experiences here. A bit pricey for Sushi compared to some other local places that have better quality/flavor. Generally alright experiences after multiple times, because the food is good, but price is generally more than others and mostly disappointed with wait time for service, flat beer from draft and and no offer of soy sauce or chopsticks (had to flag a bus box who was moving some when waiters didn't drop any off, ask or come by after a wait).
The server was Magnificent!! Wish I could remember her name. Young black
Great food, great ingredients, I'd definitely recommend 👌
It's fine. It tastes like good frozen food. Kinda flavorless and just lots of oil and fat. Perfectly fine. Id call it comforting even.
But not when it's like $18 an entree. $10 and it would be just fine but it's a crime to charge like it's cuisine
It's ok,
The food was amazing the drinks the servers were very capable I enjoyed myself🍸🍸🌞🌞
Delish. Fried rice was a tad bland but everything else super.
Absolutely no complaints! The service was wonderful - personable and attentive. The fact that they offer a lunch option even on the weekends is great. It's an excellent portion size and value for money. I highly recommend the General Tso's meal. The ambiance of the restaurant is great too, and convenient location. I'll be back!
The mongolian dish had a lot of onion.
The orange chicken was too sweet.
I sampled Sushi, Soup and Szechuan. I will not return to this establishment. Service was good. Atmoshere upscale. Food taste was forgettable.
Fantastic place and fantastic dinner tonight! Thank you. Shout out to Jordan for taking such good care of us and making wonderful recommendations!
Phenomenal food and phenomenal service. My partner and I went for an early date night and grabbed egg rolls, shrimp lo mein, vermicilli noodle bowl and a couple of drinks. Our server Cassandra was amazing and very attentive. All of the sauces were great. The salad was very fresh and best egg rolls I’ve ever had. The vibes and ambience are fun for a date night or a business meeting. We will definitely return :)
First time customer at this restaurant and I am extremely impressed. The wok hei on their fried rice was incredible. What I was impressed the most by was the intelligence of the spice usage. I like to be blown away so I get Thai hot. It was just right and balanced. My hats off all the chefs and staff. Master level execution.
The food is always excellent here. We had the General Tso’s Chicken with fried rice and the Kung Pao shrimp. Both were amazing. But the fried rice…WOW. This was the first time we ordered it and it is incredibly good! A note about the Kung Pao: there are whole chili peppers cooked into this dish so you can kind of adjust the heat by eating them…or not. HakkaChow is in my top 5 favorite Asian restaurants. Be sure to check their ‘about’ story on their website. And look into the history of the Hakka people. That made me appreciate them even more.
Everything was amazing but food was not that great to be a upscale place I was thinking the food would be better for sure the general tso is what we ordered and I was not crazy about it I’ve had better at a express Chinese food
I love this place! The food is super delicious every single time!
Always happy with the food we get here. We've taken to getting food to go from here, and it's always ready before their estimated time.
Mongolian beef was great! Chicken lettuce wraps were ok and the sushi was ok. We sat in the bar area and the guy that waited on us was very nice
Went in for beef bulgogi rice bowl and it was delicious! We started out with hot and sour soup, chicken on lettuce leaves, and sushi rolls. We decided to go for the lunch size and oh, are we glad we did!
The portions are massive! Everything looked and tasted so good! We still had to ask for takeout boxes!
The service is very good and the prices are reasonable. Never a bad dish!
Went for dinner with a friend recently and ordered sushi. To my dismay, the quality was truly unworthy of any praise. The presentation was unattractive and the sushi was so bad I will never go back. I had been here in the past and enjoyed it. Not sure if the chef was having a bad day but I will not recommend this place again. The drinks were very nice especially the spicy Margarita. I'm sorry to write such a negative report.
Really good food and great service!
So good. So very good. We will be back.
Awesome food, service, and atmosphere. Will definitely go back.
Every thing was fantastic just a little pricey
We eat here frequently because it’s always consistently good. The food is always hot and fresh. You can tell the ingredients are super fresh. Large portions for the money. We always have leftovers and they are always great later. This is a must try if you’re in Winston Salem.
The food is magnificent! Real crab in the Crab Rangoon. The Calamari is always a winner. My 5 year old gets it for her main course every time. The Coconut Soup...🤌🏾 Literally everything I've had is a 10/10. To top it off, the owner comes out to check in how everything was. This place is awesome. Allergy friendly. And kid friendly too
Awesome Asian fusion place with something on the menu for everyone. I've never gotten something from here that I didn't love. Very crave-worthy!
My daughter and I had the pleasure of lunch today and met the most wonderful Server, Joy. Her name matched her spirit and the pleasantries she genuinely exhibited. The food was excellent but the service will be well remembered. Thank You Joy!
Gotta love half price sushi Sunday! But food around!
4.8 out of 5. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
The flavor, texture and temperature of the food was absolutely perfect. A fair portion of food for a great price but a little more wouldn't hurt lol. I was missing an egg roll from my lunch special 😢 but I can't wait to go back and try more of their menu. Won't be ordering Asian cuisine from anyone else in 27104 Winston-Salem. HakkaChow!!!
The food is delicious. It comes out quick and is so flavorful. The peanut butter chicken was so crispy and the sauce was delicious. The service was also very attentive. We had a wonderful experience.
For a first timer, PLEASE go for the lunch special so you can get more bang for your buck! The lunch specials are probably better than the dinner! Lettuce wraps, spring rolls, and egg rolls are all great starters. General Tsos, Orange Peel (like orange chicken), Thai basil, and the fried rice or lo mein bowls are a HIT! There are many choices to choose from and there are sushi options! Those kimchi cheese fries were HOT but delicious!
Clean restaurant. Friendly atmosphere. Very good food 👌
The food was awful! An upgrade for $3 for fried rice that was burnt and awful. All of our dishes were burnt and it was like a bowl full of Panda Express sauce. It was extremely overpriced for nasty food. Will never come here again absolutely gross! Idk how people were in there eating!
The best food and the cutest atmosphere! I have celiac disease and SO appreciate their delicious gluten free food that never made me sick! The Mongolian Tofu and the Singaporean Rice Noodles are my two favorite dishes! I ordered from here so many times and carry out was already hot, ready, and on time when I arrived and the atmosphere is so cute for having a dinner with friends! I moved away six months ago for work and I still crave HakkaChow every time my stomach growls. Can’t wait to be back in NC so I can visit again <3
HakkaChow is seriously the best :)
Food was very good.
What a great place for Asian fusion
Me and my husband went to try them out with such good reviews and they weren't lying. We got wagu dumplings or wonton. 1/2 fried 1/2 steamed9. Really good. I got the Panko crusted chicken on a salad with peanut sauce. Excellant! My husband got the curry chicken w/ veggies and he enjoyed it. It comes in big bowls and is a lot of food at a good price. Hubby's dish tore him up but mine was fine. I highly recommend this place as we will definitely be going back. We were on the wait list for 25 min. But only waited about 10. Our waiter was excellent, didnt catch his name but explained everything to us. Didn't get any pics either, sorry but take My word for it. It was delicious. Got out with a bill for 50$ and that was with an appetizer.
I have never had a problem here, food is always fresh and VERY filling. Highly recommend for anyone wanting Asian cuisine.
Love this place . Food is amazing. Service is always friendly and knowledgeable.
Great place for a fine Asian meal. HakaChow always delivers, no matter what dishes we select. The sushi is great also.
Waitress Maryanne very attentive and sweet. Atmosphere was very nice and very clean restaurant. For food, I got the beef bulgogi bowl with white rice and ginger salad. It was all very good and a lot of food for the cost. Also, got the steamed beef dumplings they were good with the sauces. Eggrolls were not all that great but decent with the sauces.
Wonderful
Maybe 1 in 20 restaurants deserve a rating of five. Very few actual deliver excellence in all three of food quality, service & atmosphere.
The texture and quality of the vegetables was awesome in the mouth. The onions well perportioned and not used as filler.
The sauce left a delicious back hint of spice but not so overwhelming to have fire breath.
Much like Phoenix Asian Cuisine in Greensboro, Hakkachow calls to mind a non-corporate P.F. Chang’s, only better. The restaurant is modern and spacious with plenty of seating to go around. The menu skews Chinese though there are Korean and Thai offerings as well as a sushi/poke menu as well. While there is something to be said for the comfort of familiarity, that menu, save for a few of the sushi rolls, offers no surprises. Everything you’ll find here, you’ve likely already had elsewhere.
My wife and I opted to start with one of the unique rolls (Cajun Revolution: tempura shrimp, cream cheese, and jalapeno inside/Cajun salmon, tuna, yellowtail, crispy shallot, aioli, and eel sauce outside), followed by a veggie fried rice (with homemade chili oil) and Singapore noodles, respectively. Our app came quickly, and we didn’t have long to wait for our entrees either though service slowed considerably as the restaurant got busier. However, our server remained courteous, apologetic, and unflappably professional through it all.
The kitchen proved to be on its game as well. On paper, the Cajun Revolution seemed almost too much, but it made for a tasty bite: spicy, crunchy, and flavorful. Singapore noodles are one of my go-to dishes for Chinese and Asian fusion, and Hakkachow’s version didn’t disappoint. While not the best I’ve had, the composition, flavors, and aroma were all there. The fried rice was likewise well-executed, and it contained a variety of veggies, but it wasn’t leaps and bounds ahead of what you can get elsewhere.
Hakkachow’s entrees run large, which helps take the sting out of the mid-teens pricing. On the one hand, that is hardly unreasonable for a nice meal out. On the other hand, depending on how you feel about your favorite Chinese takeout joint, the extent to which Hakkachow’s food surpasses it may or may not justify the extent to which Hakkachow’s prices do.
All told, Hakkachow promises competently made food in a pleasant environment. It might lack a distinctive “wow” factor, but it doesn’t seem likely to let you down, either.
Delicious food and great atmosphere. Service was excellent. Enjoulyed the dinner with friends and family.
There's not Anything negative that I can say about this restaurant! The food is AWESOME Every time and the service is just as good. You get plenty to eat, and I love that they have a shellfish allergy menu! They care about the safety of their customers and assured me that it was safe to eat there! I liked that since my allergy is anaphylaxis! I give this restaurant 5 stars, and I'd give more if there was an option for that!
Great meal and service
Lunch prices are super reasonable
Our waitress was lovely and efficient. Her name was JOy ...which suited her perfectly.
Probably the best General Tso's chicken I have ever had.Fresh and crispy
Excellent food and a great atmosphere to have a larger group of people eat.
The very best Asian food in the area. If you people even knew what this family puts into each and every dish. I've been a Chef for over 23+ years and this is some of the best Chow your likely to find. It's conservative, traditional, yet casual and always delicious. With excellent prices and portions. One of my favorite places to have worked and to eat.
Great food, one of the best Asian places I know of. Gets busy and is a bit pricey, but everywhere is now.
Great food, great experience. Wait staff was patient with my questions since the menu didn't explain things very well. Food was top quality, fountain drinks are expensive though
Food was EXCELLENT and our server (Christina) was Exceptional
Wonderful food and amazing service! I had the shrimp fried rice for my main meal and egg rolls for an appetizer, absolutely delicious! Service was amazing!
It's good
Very comfortable place. Dishes are plentiful and just all around great service! Must get the fried dumplings, side of lo mein, and also sautéed mushrooms!!! Promise ya!
Love the crab wontons.
Lex (The charming bald guy) was awesome as always! He made the perfect Tokyo iced tea and was very attentive and helpful throughout the visit. The pork bulgogi is decently spicy but incredibly delicious, so I highly recommend it. My fiancé got the pork and sausage fried rice and loved it as well. I highly recommend hakkachow, I’ve never had a negative experience!
Great place for dinner
Great Orange Chicken!
Customer service is bad
Special waiter !
Have been coming here since they opened several years ago. Loved several menu items including the spare ribs, crazy shrimp and volcano sushi rolls, chicken fried rice, Mongolian beef, spring rolls, dumplings, etc. In past few years these items seem to have a different taste and are not prepared as well. The sushi rolls are prepared sloppily and taste dried out. The ribs are hit and miss and the rice I used to love has an over seasoned taste and darker appearance like too much soy sauce or something in it. Spoke to a manager about the rice and he recommended I order it gluten free to try to get it lighter and not so salty tasting. This method worked some but rice is a little mushy and still different than what I loved years ago. Still, I support them, hoping it will get better and my kids like the sushi and ribs. Management sent a $25 credit for me being a loyal customer which I was able to use towards meal recently. I appreciated that.
Food is pretty good, but they serve hot dishes in cheap, low melting-point plastic🤮
Excellent food, atmosphere, and service. Everyone working were the most warm and friendly people making for a truly inviting and pleasurable evening. I will definitely be back and highly recommend them!
Food was just okay
Good, but not great. However, someone in our party is gluten free and they were very impressed with the GF menu.
Excellent food. Family loved it.
I came here recently for a work lunch to celebrate one of my colleague's retirement. We had a party of 10; arrived on Wednesday around 1145am. We were seated immediately at in the main dining area. Our server was nice and brought us waters and took our orders promptly. We put in a couple appetizers - the calamari and dumplings, which came out along with the soups pretty fast. The calamari was almost hard, kind of felt/tasted a bit stale; I liked the dipping sauces, but the calamari itself did not seem fresh and was lacking in flavor. I enjoyed the dumpling a bit more.
For my entree, I ordered the beef lo mein with a cup of wonton soup and I added an egg roll.
I thought the wonton soup was bland; and definitely not worth the upcharge. My egg roll came out before the main dish (I'm pretty sure it was a spring roll actually; but it tasted fine, especially with the dipping sauce). The low mein was definitely a generous portion (I had several meals for leftovers) but on its own was also a little lacking in seasoning. I requested a side of the house chili oil, and that definitely helped!
All in all though, I'd say this was a very mediocre meal/experience; I don't think it lived up to the hype for me, but I would be willing to give it another chance (maybe try the hot and sour or egg drop soup, make sure I actually get an egg roll etc). Worth nothing, the rest of the party seemed content with their meals though.
Really upscale Asian food.
My absolute favorite Asian restaurant!!! From sushi and sesame chicken, to Singapore noodles and walnut shrimp… everything I’ve had over the years has been absolutely delicious.
Terrible customer service!! Ordered a pick up order, called to inquire about my order and was placed on a “brief” hold (which was greater than 5 minutes). Called back and was told she was at a table and I was just going to have to wait. I called to speak with a manager and according to staff no manager is on site. That is concerning because there is no one to hold anyone accountable for our food. We have enjoyed this place in the past but after learning the restaurant is run by staff makes me a little leery.
Its my 2nd time there truly enjoyed the food & service...anytime in town will stop in
Best food I've had in a long time. Amazing options with a lot of Asian fusion. I got sushi and garlic naan, boyfriend got General Tso Chicken, boyfriend's mom got Kung Pao Chicken and we shared the beef dumplings. Everything was amazing and Joy has the best service I've experienced since moving to this area 6 months ago. (Give that girl a raise.) I didn't take any pictures of the food because I was too excited to eat everything but I highly recommend stopping by. Seems like there's no bad options. I will be happily returning very soon.
We love hakkachow. It is our go-to sushi place. They have amazing sushi rolls of all sorts. Not only are they delicious, but they are always amazing to look at. The coconut curry soup is a must have. It's the best soup I've ever eaten. You can't go wrong with any of the appetizers because they are all phenomenal.
Like!
snappy wait staff, incredible food. I come here from durham cause it is amazing.
Great sushi!! Absolutely love there dishes like Orange chicken and there Mongolian beef! Always a go to for the family! Also the kids crispy chicken is the best I have seen!!
This was a first visit. We really enjoyed the whole experience. I recommend asking for Ally to be your server. She was very helpful with the menu and provided great service. The food was fantastic and the whole place was clean and well staffed.
After receiving mediocre service including having to get up and ask for our own utensils, chop sticks, and soy sauce, our table of 6 had gratuity added. However, they added back in discounts before adding 20% to all of our checks so really it was more than 20% of the total check. Confused as to why the gratuity was more than 20%, we asked as we left for the manager to explain, and said they needed to be more transparent when determining the tip. He agreed. When we stepped outside, we heard the hostesses loudly making fun of us for asking about the issue.
Overall, the experience gets 3 stars because the service was lacking, the food left much to be desired and the atmosphere was too dark and loud. The calamari was chewy, and the sushi was sloppy.
Great ambiance and service
This would be my favorite restaurant if it was only in my hometown. Love the variety of dishes and glad to see actual spice in food.
Good!
