A menu with Thai, Japanese, Chinese & Vietnamese options, plus sushi & a full bar, in a sleek space.
Second time dining at this great establishment. Ordered the lettuce wraps again! $3 draft beers on Monday was a bonus. Such reasonable prices, large portions, attentive & kind staff. We also had the miso soup, egg drop soup, and ginger chicken, all delicious. Can't wait to come back.
First time here. We were a group of 4 adults and a child. Ordered a variety of entries.
Entries come with soup which was just plain flavorless soup.
The Singapore noodles dish had too much turmeric and no salt and disappointing.
The other two Hibachi and Kung Pao dinner were good. Vegetable tempura role was tasty.
Also ordered Saki which was good too.
Overall a good place for Sushi rolls and may be Hibachi. But the soups and the fried rice are pretty basic.
We have always liked Sushi-O. The restaurant has great food and, during normal times, decent service. However, this review is about a time of stress, specifically Valentine’s Day of 2025.
There was a missed opportunity by management to mitigate flow into the restaurant. Our reservation was at 7:15pm but we came early. I’m glad we did because 5 other groups showed up for the same reservation time. Our reservation also wasn’t verified (meaning theoretically, anyone could’ve claimed that time slot).
Once we did get seated, we waited 25 minutes to be served (though I’ll note the bus boy brought us water). We had the flag down a waitstaff member to be served. In fact, her had to flag her down several times during the evening to get proper service; she was apologetic given the circumstances.
The saving grace of this evening was the food quality. The cooks did an excellent job with our egg drop soup orders, crab wontons (Rangoon), and sushi rolls. All was amazing.
Had it not been for the waitress’s demeanor, I would not have tipped and she missed out on a higher tip because of the slowness of service.
The big takeaway for management here is:
1. develop a strategy for large nights. There is no reason to have waitstaff servicing random tables. They should’ve had dedicated sections.
2. I actually did witness an order (likely an appetizer) that I timed from being ready to being picked up by staff at roughly 11 minutes. This is not good and I would’ve rejected it had it been brought to my table.
3. Hold the hostess accountable to verify reservation times on the app if you are going to take them. That itself could’ve been disastrous (and likely was).
Hopefully these things will be addressed. Thanks 😃
Honestly, this was a great experience! My friends and I decided together since it’s been a while and chose this place! SO GLAD WE DID!
Parking- there is a parking deck in the back and you don’t have to pay if you are dining here. Just let the host know your parking spot number. Love that.
Food- TOO GOOD. So we got the Chicken Pad Thai, steak and shrimp hibachi, the sesame chicken, and hot and sour soup!
Sushi- Spiderman Roll, Surf and Turf, Flamingo, spider roll (I think) and the Crunchy King
Everything was really good but my favorite was the Spider-Man roll!
This was some of the best pad Thai I have had and it’s not spicy at all but still full of flavor. The hibachi gave everything that it needed and the steak was tender. You honestly can’t go wrong with sesame chicken! Crispy and juicy!
Now that hot and sour soup! 8/10 very good and the flavor was deep!
Oh the chicken and shrimp fried rice - 10/10 for me!!!
Service- the lady that served us was very sweet and attentive. The restaurant gives a great ambiance and we all enjoyed our time there!
Would definitely come back!!! Check them out and #tellemGabbbsentya!
I’m not a big sushi fan, but I chose Sushi O for my birthday since my kids are. What’s great about them is that they have a huge non-sushi menu as well. I had the house fried rice with tofu, which was outstanding. Huge portion. But I also got out of my comfort zone and had a spicy tuna roll, which was really good, also. The wait staff was professional and friendly. Highly recommend.
The service here is horrible. We ordered four rolls of sushi (one not shown). The sushi was stale and obviously old with no flavor. The worst part was the preparation, those sushi rolls you see that are mangled are untouched! Some had no fish in them, avocado hanging out, and not even folded!
It was disgusting. Worst of all, when we brought this to the managers attention, he acted like we were trying to scam him with free food. You didn't even serve us food, so scam you of what? We had no problem paying for the drink we bought, but he made us pay for the rest of the "food" despite it being untouched. The manager here is a piece of work who doesn't care about the food, customer service, or public health. He should get his license removed. If you like being given a hard time on a date night, definitely check this place out.
Sushi O is a great little sushi restaurant on Glenwood Ave in Raleigh downtown. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate, and the service is friendly and attentive. We ordered the veg sushi which was fresh and delicious. The drinks were decent too. We also got the drunken noodles and just a heads up that their lunch and dinner prices are different for the same dishes. The prices are reasonable for the portion sizes. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great sushi experience. It can get crowded on weekends, they have a nice outdoor space as well, but they don't take reservations.

Love the speciality and vegetarian rolls. The teriyaki entree and ramen are great too for main course. The range of drinks is fantastic that goes well with the rolls. The range of vegetarian rolls is huge! Love the reasonable prices for decent portions and flexible menu with very affordable drinks.
Mediocre food and a very late service
Try the Mongolian beef
Excellent all the way around!
Really enjoyed myself having excellent food, service and a casual dinning experience with an unique upscale atmosphere, definitely one of my go to spots for a quick lunch or a night out on the town...
Been coming here for years and have always enjoyed my meals. The sushi is delicious and a lot of the other dishes they offer are awesome too.
Their sushi is a great takeout option!

Might be the best sushi I've ever had. Service was excellent and really cool atmosphere.
I absolutely loved this place! The service the sushi the everything!! Fresh and tasty.

How can I score a lifetime supply of Sushi-o? It’s soo good. I’m always disappointed whenever I venture out. Sushi-o is my home 🗣️
Went to order some sushi but they said they didnt have any and by the time I'd finished my interaction with who seemed like the manager I decided I'd take out - order a few starters a ramen to go - waited 20 mins and he only took down the ramen none of the starters - I just took it and left wanted to end the experience - food was as miserable as the experience in there - never write google reviews but this deserved one
Exceptional
Didn’t have food. Walked by me and my family multiple times and didn’t get our order. Even went to people who came in after us. Was only two other people in there. Waited 15 minutes. Don’t recommend
Same owner for 15+ years. Says a lot.

Great food with a range of prices. Nice wait staff.
Overvalued for what you get. Service staff are terrible at their job. Given the awesome location of the restaurant, you would think the owners would work harder at providing a matching experience.
Honestly, this was a great experience! My friends and I decided together since it’s been a while and chose this place! SO GLAD WE DID!

I just ordered Sushi O takeout and was so pleasantly surprised at my order. First, I ordered at like 9:30 on a Saturday night not even thinking about the club crowd that would cause me to be late to pick up my order. When I got there, the staff was so pleasant. Then I drive home expecting to have to reheat everything but to my surprise it was still warm and so delicious! I’ve had the Singapore noodles there before (that’s what sparked my craving initially) but we got the duck soup and Tom Kha and lettuce wraps which were amazing too! They always cook the shrimp just right (not overdone) and I have to say the flavors were really on point tonight. Well done! So so Satisfying to spend some $$$ on takeout for the convenience of not cooking, and ACTUALLY GET something this was worth it!!! Plus I’ll always love a sushi O for its $5 martini nights on Thursdays!!!
Anise pho is one of my favorite spots for good Vietnamese soup, it's flavorful, the staff is friendly, it has indoor outdoor seating, with a groovy atmosphere... definitely a must try if you're in the area😊
The mussels appetizer was absolutely fantastic, highly suggest.
Absolutely fantastic food and dining experience. Sushi was delicious and the crab wonton was amazing. Outdoor seating was perfect for people watching. Plenty of flavored Sake options as well.
I came here with my boyfriend for an early dinner to celebrate my promotion at work. I'm new to North Carolina and was excited to try the sushi here. I really hope this doesn't set the bar for my future experiences because I was very very disappointed in both the food and service.
The sake was probably the best thing we got as I had never tried mango Nigori before but all else fell short.
Our gyoza were half seared and just okay.
The rolls were a huge let down even though the by description and looks it seemed good. We had the Crunchy King which was the better of the three. The Daddy which was mid. And the lastly the Spiderman roll which to me was inedible and I only had one piece.
Our server never came to check on us after we received our rolls otherwise I would have said something but when she came by after we were finished, asked if I wanted a box for the uneaten roll and I expressed I didn't like it.
She kinda paused, gave a face and said okay and walked away. When she returned with our bill, we were still charged for the roll. I then had to ask for her to take it off as I don't think we should've been charged for it. She again gave a face, said "I'll see what I can do"
The service left a lot to be desired, it's very lack luster and as a Restaurant Manager myself I'd be very unhappy if my staff handled this situation like this.
Overall, it really left me with a sour taste in my mouth and feeling like I wasted time and money coming here for what was supposed to be a special occasion for me.
Edit: I've been coming here for around 10 years now, and it pains me to say that this food is not good anymore. It's lost it's taste, the sushi isn't bogo anymore, the food has been tasting like chemicals and not fresh the past few times I've gone. I thought it was a fluke the first couple times, but it's not. Food is getting more expensive and it's just another place on Glenwood to me now. Sushi O is going downhill and I'm changing from a 5 to a 2 star.
Best Thai/sushi on Glenwood hands down. Don't even bother going to sushi blues while sushi o is in the game.
The food and the service are always great!! Best sushi and atmosphere! Spectacular!!
Great sushi spot in Raleigh. I had some salmon sashimi and the pork gyoza. The food was great I was really happy with the meal. The service was mediocre, our server was not very attentive and also not very knowledgeable about the sushi. Nonetheless the food was good!
I love Sushi O! Enjoyed the mussels and sushi, and complementary parking. Definitely the best sushi place on Glenwood.
I found a tiny roach floating on my iced water, indicating an infestation. On top of that, the staff was not apologetic at all. Needless to say, I will not go back.
Nice little sushi spot downtown Raleigh. Parking garage behind building makes for easy-ish parking if the street is full. No BOGO rolls, but the prices are low. Our waitress, Mira, was amazing. Very helpful with recommendations, topped off drinks without being asked, but never hovered.
The only downside was the 93.0 grade from the health department. I didn't notice it until after eating, but it may have given me enough worry to go across the street to Sushi Blues if I had seen it when I first walked in.
One of our fav spots to eat. Amazing service and an unmatched menu
I come here once a week. Love this place.
Good soups and flavors, my family loves eat here. Excellent music and service. We will always come back.
sushi was so good the place was nice and chill and service was awesome. will be going back. sushi also tasted fresh and it was quickly made.
The Singapore noodles had a piece of long strand hair or materiel in it. The waitress offered to take the meal off of our bill.
The spring rolls tasted as if the veggies were frozen and not fresh.
I visited this place well over 3 years ago and rated them a 4/5 stars. But now if I could rate 0 stars I would. I don’t want to have to go out to eat and pick through my food to see if there’s hair , material , strings, etc. this is why I cook home and eat at home. Be mindful when going here.
Let me say however, our waitress was extremely nice and helpful.
Very tasty food, clean and inviting atmosphere, friendly service, and reasonably priced! Highly recommend!
The rice tasted bland, the steak and chicken both tasted fake and rubbery. The sushi tasted terrible I would not recommend this place to anyone ever. Service was terrible, we had to get up and ask for someone to come to our table. We waited 30 mins for our check. Ridiculous, don’t spend the time or money here.
Dinner was great here! Service was a little sub par from their normal service, granted it was a little later in the evening.
Great food and great service! Will be back again
Been coming here for years & nothing beats their sushi. Their hibachi is the best in town!
Great take out spot for sushi and i love their pineapple fried rice!
Nice food in a trendy setting. Came here for early dinner with my family and toddlers, and we were well accommodated. The setting, as expected, is probably meant for a young hip crowd but we did not feel out of place. The sushi was good (fried rolls, cucumber wrapped rolls, regular rolls), while some of the entrees were more hit or miss (General Tso's was done well, while the Ramen and the Dan Dan noodles were a tad underwhelming). Wish I had room for the fried ice cream! Overall a nice place for a sushi fix.
When we got here, we decided to try the outdoor seating, and it was nice. The hostess and waitress were friendly and attentive. We tried the crab Rangoon, & it was ok. There was something about the filling that was different, and I wasn't as much of a fan of that as other ones I've tried. We ordered some sushi rolls as well, and they were good, but there were other places in town that I felt had better sushi. Overall the place was ok, but if I go back, I might try some different things than what I previously ordered.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great sushi experience. It can get crowded on weekends, they have a nice outdoor space as well, but they don't take reservations.
Food and service was good. I thought it took too long for our food though. We were the only ones in the restaurant and still took over 30 minutes to get our food. Took about 45 minutes to get our sushi. I would really rather have the sushi first 😳
I've been to many sushi restaurants in the triangle area, but this one is number one. The server and hostess were both extremely attentive. The server had a great sense of humor and I could tell she enjoyed serving my wife and I. We both ordered a Tom Yum that was the perfect level of spicy to prepare our taste buds for our sushi. I had a Mary Roll and my wife had a Firecracker roll. Both were prepared expertly by Suki. The Monday special of $3 draft beers made the drink choice easy and inspired me to try the Kyoto Rise. A refreshing mix of Malibu Rum, pineapple juice, grenadine, and sprite prepared by Marielle. This is not a restaurant to sleep on when visiting Raleigh! Make sure you get your chance to enjoy this wonderful restaurant just like we did!!
The food was so delicious and the atmosphere was so relaxed. There's no window separating you from the outside so it was if I were eating outside. Such a great 1st time experience..
The crab Rangoon and bang-bang shrimp sushi rolls are the bomb
Great!
1st time here and I love this place
Drinks were strong, but drinkable. I sampled the crab wonton, vegetable rolls and had the Mongolian beef w/ fried rice and salad-all quite delicious and flavorful! The waitress was very attentive amiable. The lighting is low and makes for a great date.Check it out! I will surely be going back 😊.
Dined here twice while visiting Raleigh for a conference. During our first visit our server was timely and efficient. The second visit was mush slower and our group received our items at different times. The hot food came out first then the sushi arrived 15-20 minutes later so some of us were sitting there hungry watching other eat. The prices are decent and they have a very large selection of different Asian dishes.
Always exceptional service, they will give recommendations on new rolls to try. Hardly ever have to wait. Once you order your food is there! We are regulars and always will be
Food was just ok. Tables were sticky and smelled heavily like cleaning chemicals.
Food was good except the fried rice. It was bland and not very good
First visit. Very nice. I thought it would have been a madhouse being Glenwood South on a Friday night, but it wasn't. Food was very tasty, too.
Great sushi and the staff is very friendly. We always enjoy coming here. Definitely try the Bang Bang Shrimp roll.
The sushi and food are great. I haven't tried their drinks but the sound yummy. Parking is free after 6 off the street.
Great sushi and appetizers. Garlic wings were incredible. Now of course if you’re from say NYC please go with realistic expectations that this ain’t omakase in Japan. But for Raleigh NC this is one of the best sushi there is. Great service too.
Very nice fresh made rolls, really enjoyed my stop
Small, especially when outside seating is not available. Decor could use an upgrade. Service is great and the food is generally very good
We are road tripping back from Richmond and we took a chance on this place right off our route... COMPLETE PAY OFF!! This is some of the freshest fish I've had. We arrived an hour before close and were treated with ease and courtesy; never feeling rushed.
Ethan and Mary were delights and a highlight on our fun food stop. Definitely stop by
Good food and fast service. Servers are nice and friendly
the sushi pieces were very large and the rice was overcooked
Delicious sushi!
Best sushi place in Raleigh!
The sushi here is top notch! The service is very fast and friendly!! PLEASE visit!!
Meh. I left unimpressed. The sushi was dry. It was VERY crowded and people kept pouring in. Our waitress was nice and got the food quick to us, but never gave us the extra sauces we asked for and never offered refills on our drinks. I get it, she was very busy but on the other hand management should be providing a better environment for her to give her best service. Wouldn’t recommend!
The chicken wraps are amazing! Sushi is very tasty as well!
This is a super casual place, I sat at a table by the front door, not a great location on a cold night. It's a little loud & the seating is tight ,but the food was good.
Generous portions that were served by friendly, efficient staff.
Always great sushi!
Great variety and delicious food!
Love it an amazing place to have lunch
Loved the food
Not many gluten free options and our waitress was very unsure about gluten free. The drinks were tasty and the sushi was good. They had a special on sushi rolls which was good. I feel the restaurant should educate the staff more on gluten free and have a small menu. Nice atmosphere for the area.
Food was delicious, however went for a specific dish that they no longer serve. They need to update their website
My wife and I have date night here almost every Friday night! We always enjoy our experience and Sushi. We have also enjoyed having Andy as our server. We have learned to ask for him whenever we come now.
Oh my! It hurts my heart to have to give anyone one star BUT it's Thursday at 7:00 pm and we were a party of 3 and got a seated to be out right ignored. Servers passed us and wouldn't make eye contact with any of us. After 15 minutes we got up and left and no one said a word.
That's my 2¢ now you decide.
Great ambiance quick after work meals and great food
Got our dinner from here last night. TOTALLY OVERRATED FOOD! Worse in the town. Too expensive items for very average food!
The sushi was awesome.
Food here is great. Tried it twice and they didn’t disappoint. The drunken noodle was great the first time but the second time it wasn’t so much. But would still visit and recommend
My family and I recently moved from Maryland, where we certainly had our favorite sushi places.
My little brother came up to Raleigh to stay with me from Sanford for the weekend and he is a HUGE sushi fanatic. We did some research, and found this GEM.
My brother (15) had VERY specific favorites, but the amazing waitress was able to listen to what he likes and pointed him to a selection he might enjoy. He needed up getting the Bang Bang Shrimp roll. This thing was HUUUUGE. We were both glad he only got one roll :) I got the bento box and got a salmon roll, spicy tuna and philly rolls. They were all great. They also had GF soy sauce :)
We also got the seaweed salad and miso soup- both delicious as well.
They had a special running for 35% off, which made our meal very affordable and we had a fantastic time. Great ambiance, great staff and great meal!
Terrible food
The food was good but unfortunately the sushi rolls are not there, yet. Super plain tasting but there could be potential if they work at it. The service, wait time for a table and the overall ombiance was good.
Was in the mood for some sushi, so decided to check this spot out. It was very hot outside and so we needed to be inside, this place had both seating available luckily.
The sushi is interesting as they have random ingredients in them like mango, pineapples, asparagus, and the list goes on.
It was decent sushi, but not the best in Raleigh. I give it a 3 because of how random it was and the prices are a little much.
Huge menu for better or worse. Some dishes on the menu were off the menu. We came late, but well before 9pm the staff set and polished the silver on the table next to us and a few minutes later started turning chairs.
Good restraunt with tons of food options for Asian dishes. Tried the drunken noodles, fried red snapper, and sushi. The food was solid and we got to enjoy some cool weather during this hot summer on their patio. I will go again for any special occasion for someone wants sushi. I say occasion, because the price is a little higher than standard nightly fare but nothing crazy. I would recommend again.
Loved and good price. Will definitely go back again
Nothing to write home about, from the waitress to the food. Even the soda was flat. We ordered the bang bang shrimp roll and I was expecting more bang.
Great sushi and atmosphere is ok for outdoors. That old saying "It's not the heat it's the humidity!" Really rings true in Raliegh. Also the Dragon roll was not a favorite, baked sushi on a hot day wasn't a winning choice. I removed 1 star for wait time and beer selection being restocked.
We love it here. Wonderful service, good food, and love the outdoor seating.
Delicious and fancy. Might be my new favorite restaurant.
This is likely the best Sushi and Asian restuarant in the area. Even compared to restaurants in other states, this one stands out to be one of the best.
So so food, below average customer service. We really wanted to like them
Sushi was good had a tigress roll and a bowl of ramen
To be completely fair, we came in 1 hour before closing. That being said, our waitress was a mess, seemed super off. The food was alright, no real complaints. The drinks were not great, and the one drink advertised on a big sign was not available. Not a great experience but also not terrible.
This place is small and very cute. Love the decor. It's downtown so parking is a Hassel. You'll definitely have to walk from the parking lot. But the sushi is phenomenal. The hibachi really didn't tickle my fancy. Chicken was very hard and dry. The broccoli could have been cooked longer it was crunchy salad broccoli. The apple sake was too die for. I love the way they serve it in the bottle. Very clean place as well
Great sushi! Fun atmosphere! Good drinks!! We had a large group and they easily accommodated us! Will be recommending and returning!
My go to spot for sushi. Good sushi, great value.
Always good! The sushi is always 35% off (says so on their menu), and the owner seems so nice! The lychee sake is amazing.
This is our go-to date spot.
All of the food was excellent. Also they had a really nice selection of drink specials. Wait staff was attentive and friendly
amazing. top notch. 11/10 best sushi in raleigh. the dragon fire roll is the best thing on the menu if you don’t order it you are missing out
Delicious food! The lunch specials are a great deal. Wish they had a lunch special that included the vegetarian rolls, but otherwise no complaints.
Went here for date night and it did not disappoint! Loved the food and customer service. We also met 2 other couples and had a round of saki bombs! I definitely recommend this restaurant.
Sooo delicious and the portion of my pad Thai was more than enough for two servings!
Valentines meal. Not a long wait even though they were very busy. Food was delicious and service was okay
