Comfy place serving classic Thai fare such as soup, curries & noodle dishes, plus lunch specials.
Thai Palace has the best tasting Pad See Ew dish, hands down. I have had it several times and it is better than Carrboro or Durham Thai restaurants. Flavor is top notch. Yet, regarding the portions, they seem to skimp on the noodles. More broccoli and less noodles. I think a lot of the Thai places are doing this these days, decreasing how much noodle you get.
Also the restaurant is located in the same plaza as a grocery store and a nearby gas station. Great location so you can do everything at once.
This Thai restaurant offers a true dining experience that is distinct from fast food dining. The appeal goes beyond the pleasant atmosphere, attentive service, and quality cutlery. Lol It appears each dish is prepared fresh upon ordering, and is presented nicely, offering a delightful combination of flavors. It is what I like when chefs pay attention to taste subtleties. This was our second visit, and we'll definitely be returning.
Having lived in Thailand, we know this is an authentic Thai restaurant with flavors that bring back such happy memories!
We recommend the Khao Soi for a northern Thai noodle dish or get the Pad Krapow (basil) Chicken or pork and ask for it minced (Thai style)
Also, the deserts though not very sweet are wonderful and authentic!
Our waitress was good with attentive service. The wonton soup was hot and tasty. I ordered PAD eggplant and the veggies were fresh, but the sauce was so very salty that I could not eat the sauce and had to pick out the veggies. I have eaten there many times, but this is the only time this sauce was just too salty to eat. I was disappointed and did mention it to our server. I asked for her to tell the chef to check the salt in that sauce. I hope the over salting will be corrected the next time that we go there.
This used to be my go-to Thai restaurant--flavorful and authentic, it was a reason I looked forward to going to Chapel Hill. At my recent visit, however, they have gone WAY down. As with many Asian restaurants, I suspect that grandma wants to retire and her children/grandchildren are set to take over. Problem is, they change her recipes, water them down, and charge more money, and they certainly don't care about customer service. I've seen this unfortunate downfall many, many times.
We were there pretty early on a weeknight (around 5:30), so it was a mostly empty restaurant and there was no one there to greet us. Eventually 2 young men we had never seen before greeted us to sit down. We sat in a back room by ourselves and there was no place setting at the table.
Normally we'd get Yum Ped, Gai Yang, and one other dish, but this time we ordered Yum Woon Sen, Bangkok Duck, and Jungle Curry. When we received our food, we still had no plates or silverware, and the waiter asked us if we would like some....
At first glance of the Yum Woon Sen, you could tell it wasn't right. It was a bowl of lettuce with a few noodles on top. Yes, this dish is considered a Thai "salad" however, Thai salads are not American salads with lettuce and chopped vegetables. Yum Woon Sen should be primarily (very cheap) glass noodles, ground meat, and shrimp. The dressing is a flavorful mix of fish sauce, lime juice, chilis, and palm sugar. This dish has almost no noodles, 2 shrimp, and barely any dressing. What little dressing was there was flavorless. We alerted the older woman who was wandering around and she seemed shocked and disappeared. No one ever returned.
Our other two dishes, outrageously priced at $25, were just meh. Watered down broths, not very flavorful. They're rice was also dry, and we never had the option of sticky rice as we did before.
At the end of our meal, the young male waiter appeared for the first time and asked us how everything was. We told him what was wrong with particularly the yum woon sen and he simply shrugged said, "ok." He obviously didn't care and was not going to do anything to rectify it. Any other restaurant would have at least offered some more noodles or some more dressing. This guy couldn't be bothered.
It saddens me that a once delicious restaurant has joined the fallen.
My first time eating Thai and I was very pleased! The food was DELICIOUS 🤤 Staff is very attentive and nice. Our waitress explained everything to us that we asked about. I will def be going back to try some other things. The ginger dressing is love in your mouth 😍 I had Pad Thai and it was flavorful and sooo good!
My favorite Thai restaurant since 2000, they know how to make proper Tom Yum soup - the perfect thing for a cold winter day! Or anytime, really, and the rest of the menu is wonderful, too. Our family loves this place - their special “Tom Yum Shrimp Fried Rice” is a fun twist on both dishes.
It's good here. The Thai food tastes good and the atmosphere is nice.

Amazing!! Highly recommend. Very authentic food and great service.

The absolute best Pad Thai I’ve ever had. Very authentic. I won’t enjoy it anywhere else I go now! Excellent service and ambience. I highly recommend.
We used to really like this restaurant but our meal this past Saturday night was way below par. The papaya salad was good, the curries were okay, but the tofu and chicken pad thai dishes were inedible. I called to ask if the regular chef was out that night but they said no, so not sure what happened. The restaurant was mostly empty.
The service was the best! They went above and beyond for us to enjoy our dinner. & food was great. :)
Excellent lunch specials
Solid
Good was phenomenal and the service was amazing.

New Tar Heel mom here, desperate to find a dinner spot for my daughter craving Asian food on a school break evening. We stumbled upon Thai Palace and are so happy we did! We ordered the fresh basil rolls and loved how fresh and tender they were. Fried calamari was okay, not especially notable in presentation nor taste, just fine. Our dinners of pad Thai and pad woon sen were quite spectacular— very fresh, good flavor, plenty of vegetables that were perfectly cooked (still crispy) and chewy noodles. I’m already looking forward to my next visit and meal at Thai Palace!
This was a great find. Everyone enjoyed their dish, reasonably priced and ingredients seemed fresh and healthy.
Usually, I'd start with the food but I liked the moody darker blue painted walls and mix of lighting fixtures. We started with the Veggie Spring Roll but should have asked for more sweet chili sauce. The Pad Thai had good flavor and the ground peanuts were plentiful. I would add a slice of lime and more dried shrimp. My hubs got the Vegetable Panang and enjoyed the variety of veggies. Both dishes were good size portions and came with a small salad with ginger or peanut dressing which I didnt really need or like. We would definitely go back!
This is the best Thai in Chapel Hill/Carrboro in my opinion. I’ve lived here my whole life, and I have yet to find better spring rolls or pad Thai/other Thai food in general. It’s more of a takeout place in my experience, though their inside is very nice it’s just not as busy these days post-covid. The staff are amazing and so nice and the food is honestly off the charts. 10/10 in my opinion!
Elegant atmosphere that earns the name Palace; excellent Thai Cashew Chicken; fast, wonderful service; we'ill be back.

This was our first time eating at the Thai Palace Restaurant. Outstanding food - the kind I expect to find in restaurants in large east coast cities. From start to finish, the food and service were excellent. We will definitely be back.
Soooo good!!! I wanted to eat more but I was too full. I had the Panama curry and a salad with peanut dressing. HIGJLY RECOMMEND!
Great food. Got it to go. Had to wait a bit but staff was very nice. Would def go back
They cater for Vegan and they were able to remove onions and garlic
From some of the dishes. Super friendly, clean and fair price
Awesome! My favorites are the tofu drunken Noodle and the tofu green curry. So so good, and a great atmosphere as well!
The food is not authentic. The seafood and beef tasted not fresh. We came not during the busy hour but the servers were inpatient and kept ghosting. Took us even 30 minutes to get the bill.
Super nice people, food was great, price was great!
Better thai food than any place I've tried which is all of them in the Chapel hill area. Highly recommend for the most authentic thai food locally.
My absolute favorite Thai restaurant. Delicious food that is much more authentic than most of the Thai restaurants in the area. Consistently good, beautiful atmosphere, and the owner is very social and friendly.
Nestled in Chapel Hill, Thai Palace emerges as a delightful culinary haven. The interior, adorned with tasteful tapestries and ambient lanterns, creates an inviting atmosphere reminiscent of a serene retreat.
The comfortable seating offers a pleasant respite for patrons, enhancing their experience as they embark on a gastronomic journey. The menu, a diverse collection of authentic Thai dishes, unfolds like a narrative of flavors, each one telling a story of culinary craftsmanship.
Amidst the delightful dining experience, the Thai phrase “Aroi mak!” resonates, encapsulating the joy of relishing exceptionally delicious fare. The dishes, true to their Thai origins, transport diners to the vibrant streets of Bangkok or the tranquil landscapes of Chiang Mai.
Thai Palace in Chapel Hill isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a gateway to a world where tasteful decor, comfortable ambiance, and authentic flavors seamlessly converge, creating an experience worth savoring in any language.
Authentic food.
We had the Dal Makhani and Paneer Tikka. Also tried the Mango chutney with Naan. Everything was great!
Their food is super authentic and amazingly good!
Excellent Panang Curry with Shrimp. Pad See Ew also excellent.
I have gone to Thai resturant in many different cities and this hands down is the best thai food I have ever had!
This place has the best drunken noodles I’ve ever had!!! The staff is polite and the food came quickly even with a custom order. Great relaxed atmosphere with fine dining. Will definitely be back!
A new find.
All of the meals are made with fresh ingredients, each meal is unique, and "hot" is spicy but also flavorful.
Well worth a try.
The portion is not very generous for this price compared to other thai restaurants in this area.
The shrimp is super salty and tastes artificial
We waited for literally TWO hours to get our food ordered and served. They had many take out orders and didn't really care about their dine-in customers. Small portions compared to the price. They also charged us a 20% service fee, which made no sense. We had to go elsewhere to fill our half-empty stomachs after spending $30 per person.
Great food like always
Very pleasant interior,.Food was cooked and presented very quickly. VERY TASTY, WILLBE BACK FOR SURE.
Thai Palace NC is definitely some of the best, freshest, most delicious Thai food that I’ve had in the Triangle!
We tried the Thai palace noodles, pineapple fried rice, Thai iced tea, and mango sticky rice. It was all so phenomenal and flavorful! We will definitely be back!
The food was really good! The staff are also very very nice.
Some of the best chicken pad thai I’ve ever had, and not expensive at all.
On my way home from a long day walked in and ordered takeout 30 minutes before closing. Nearly fell asleep in their very comfy waiting area in the 10 minutes it took for my food. The staff helped a man bring his food out to his car and stopped me before I drove away to make sure I had my utensils! Food made my night. 10/10 on the crab wontons
Great food and relaxing environment. When I went the servers seemed busy and were doing their best to keep up with tables. Overall it was a good experience, however I think the food is a bit overpriced for the quality. I do recommend visiting this location and sampling the menu. I will be back.
I stopped going here several years ago because the food was generally bland. That's not true anymore. We had four people with four very different dishes and all of them were flavorful and tasty. The prices are reasonable.
I had a great experience at Thai palace Restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Highly recommend it
The food was so fresh and well cooked. Very authentic.
Great food, best Thai place around. You get what you pay for but their food is so worth the price. Easy online ordering or call-in for takeout
Best pad tai in the area
Good food and better prices would recommend
I order from Thai Palace almost every weekend. I’ve tried most other Thai places between Chapel Hill and Durham. Thai Palace is by far my favourite! I have a gluten allergy and I’m vegan, which can be hard to accommodate both and they are exceedingly kind and accommodating with my dietary restrictions.
This food is amazing. Every single dish my party ordered was really well done. Lime and lemon fish was perhaps the best. Service was really friendly, and it was clean. Good ambience. Will definitely go back - it’s nudged my previously favorite Thai restaurant out of first place.
The best Thai restaurant I have been too after trying them all over the country. Highly recommend.
SO YUMMY
Great food awesome hospitality and nice design! Definitely recommended :)
Well made Thai food
Nice people! Try the duck and fried bananas!
Hands down my favorite place to eat! I always get the Basil Fried Rice vegetarian style!
Great food
My first time eating Thai and I was very pleased! The food was DELICIOUS 🤤 Staff is very attentive and nice. Our waitress explained everything to us that we asked about. I will def be going back to try some other things. The ginger dressing is love in your mouth 😍 I had Pad Thai and it was flavorful and sooo good!
not one for posting bad reviews as I am also a food service professional but the delivery I revieved from this place was attrocious. $60 overall (I understand doordash is going to cost more) for soup salad and a fried sample platter might have been worth it if the food was decent but the Tom Yum soup was watery, grey and completely unappatizing and the rest was just meh and over priced for what I ultimately recieved. Take out needs to maintain restaurant quality if you are going to offer it is a service. Very disappointed.
Tom yum soup was disgusting, had no flavor to it and didnt even resemble what I've gotten in the past from other resturaunts (picture of grey soup attached). Sample platter tasted like everything was fried in old oil. Wanted to give this place a chance but it was not worth it. Very disappointing.
Just moved to the area and this was the first Thai place I tried. Easy to order online, order was ready sooner than estimated, got home and the spice level was fantastic (med spice for the win). Delicious massaman curry and pad Thai!
Spicy Thai basil was delicious. And I asked for spicy, and it provided!
Best Thai food in Chapel Hill. Very friendly staff. Good wine selection.
Attentive and kind service. Good food at a reasonable price. Enjoyed the decor as well!
Delicious curry and padthai, beautiful inside and friendly folks.
Came back after years after not have good experience as we heard the chef had changed. The food was delicious, will definitely be coming back.
This small family owned restaurant has great food, astounding customer service. Absolutely LOVE the Basil Fried Rice and Pad Thai. Highly recommend.
Tasty food and quiet atmosphere.
This place is worth the drive! Fresh and tasty. Friends who have spent time in Thailand report that the fare here is as authentic as can be. I like mine spicy - I order Thai Hot, and comes out a proper Thai hot using the correct chilis. Service is friendly and efficient. Enjoy!
My husband and I love coming to thai palace! I've been working my way through the menu for the past few months and everything is delicious! Our personal favorites are the laab nar, pad woonsen, and ofcourse the fried bananas!!! The laab nar gravy is stand alone amazing. Flavorful, thick, delicious, and the noodles that come with it remind me of dumplings. The pad woodsen noodles are perfect. Thin, glass, and the whole dish i full of flavor and all the veggies are done just right, al dente. The friend bananas are little bite size bundles of ripe banana wrapped in a crispy roll, deep fried and drizzled with honey. The staff is so sweet and caring. We have tried and loved ALL the appetizers, but the shrimp is our favorite, but those curry puffs are also amazing. The green curry, yellow curry, duck, salmon, I mean you really cannot pick a wrong thing on the menu. That crying tiger was cooked so perfectly it just melted in my mouth. I could go on forever about the wonderful staff, the amazing food, and the impeccable service. If you have not been to thai palace, you are missing out.
Super cool place. Nice environment. Great food!
Great Thai food. Great variety of lunch specials at a very reasonable price. Very friendly staff.
My favorite quiet place on a cold rainy fall or gloomy day for a warm noodle bowl and a good conversation with a friend. Quiet, hot food, and friendly service.
Delicious! Just excellent food and excellent service....you will love every bite of whatever you order. We ordered a variety of different things, and each one was as wonderful as the next, from appetizers through the main course. For 2 people the bill for Sake, appetizers, and main courses (and I had the Peking Duck - so not even the inexpensive dishes) our bill was about $50...Definitely work every penny!
I don't know what's happened, but the food here just isn't as good as it used to be.
Panang curry wasn’t that good here 😔
Excellent authentic Thai. More easily customizable options when you order takeout vs. Dine in
I love this place. We order takeout and dine in as much as possible. Dishes are delicious and staff is amazing.
Lunch portion perfect size and not too spicy at 1 star.
Good food with large entrees. Would revisit.
Food is excellent. Service is good.
Cooling can be adjusted better. Felt a bit warm by the end of dinner.
But will still go again for the food.
FABULOUS. Curry clouds, duck salad, whole fish (flounder) with 🌶.
Thank you Thai Palace.
Yum woon sen - really good flavors. Tom yum soup - too flavorful but at the same time missing some flavors...Eggplant stir fry with tofu - cooked well but tasted bland. Waiter seemed a little distracted. Overall an ok experience. A little spendy but kinda bland for Thai food.
We have been looking for good Thai food and have finally found it!! Thai palace is awesome- the sweet and sour chicken and spicy duck were delicious - large portions, too! We will definitely be back!! Thanks, Thai Palace!!
Absolutely one of the best Thai Restaurants that I've eaten. The food is always good and the people are always friendly. I had the Basil Fried Rice with mild spice. It was still a lil' spicy for my taste. (Ask accordingly) The food was very flavorful. My wife had the Fried Rice with Shrimp and a House Salad w/Ginger Sauce. Not pictured was the Sake Chicken Appetizer. (Ate before picture) Can't wait to go back.
I order from here on occasion for lunch. My food is always ready when I arrive and is steaming hot. I'm one of those people who typically orders what I've been happy with in previous orders but this place has me wanting to try every item on their menu, everything I've ordered from his is absolutely delicious! Staff are always friendly and prompt.
My family has been eating here for 15 years and it never fails to impress. The food is delicious and fresh, and the staff is so friendly. Highly recommend!
Service was excellent. My problem is with the food. Bland beyond belief. I got shrimp pad thai and a chicken soup (tom yum gai I believe). Both were so unbelievably bland it was almost a crime. I was enthusiastically hoping my order would be delicious because I go by this place all the time and didn’t realize it was there until now- I thought it would become my new stop for a huge takeout order every week. I love thai food and haven’t had good thai food since leaving Philadelphia in 2000. Anyway- like I said- the service was exceptional (I owned restaurants for 15 years- I recognize quality) but the food was a huge let down. Put some sauce in thepad thai! For starters.
Delicious food, well prepared, will def go again!
Amazing food, great choice of local beer and really good service. Check it out!
Best Thai food in Chapel Hill! The staff is very friendly and accommodating and the food is consistently wonderful. Highly recommend!
It is a nice place with pleasant interior nicely decorated; cozy and clean. We often brought there our guests.
Food was very good, fresh and delicious. Operating take out only right now. Seem very committed to good hygiene
This place has been around forever and second to none in the area. Locally owned business try the pad ke mow (sp?) or any of the curries.
I love Thai palace the food is awesome!
Amazing Guy Yang.
The food here is very good. I am an afficinado of Thai food, and can be very critical; but I would rate the food here at ~8 out 10. Notable features of the meal I had include the thoughtful presentation of the steamed dumplings and the lightness of the fried rice. It was not soaked in oil, carefully spucec, and included only a few basic ingredients. Simple but wonderful.
What prevents me from rating five stars is the price. Although the portion size if the fried riced was a little generous, that plus four dumplings cost over $20, a bit above other Thai restaurants in town.
I will return, but less frequently than I would if the prices were more in line with other locations.
Used to order from here a lot during college for pickup. Moved out of Chapel Hill and can't find Thai food anywhere near as good as this place back in NY. Reasonable price, really good taste.
Our favorite Thai place for 20 years. Very accommodating of allergies. Great food, great people, great atmosphere for family gatherings. Chapel Hill wouldn’t be the same without Thai Palace.
We ordered four items; the service was good on our takeout order so I gave them one star for that; the appetizer was good, so I gave them another star; the remaining three items I would not order again. I used to go this restaurant 4-5 years ago and the food quality was much better. Will not return.
Great food, portion size, price, and atmosphere; I will be back
Order E9. Best. Thing. Ever.
Very decent Thai Restaurant. I’d give 5 stars but unlike food the servers a bit substandard.
Agree with everyones comments. This place is AMAZING! Pad Thai will make ya fall outcha chair and slap yourself it's so good! Service, Food, Thai Beer, salad with a bangin dressing, atmosphere to include the Thai Tea was THE BEST I've EVER had. It's a little hidden gem for a for a full service restaurant. Will definitely be back.
Great pad thai.
Excellent food The way they use particular spices to create an unforgettable experience of eating pleasure
One of my go places. Their curry soup at lunch is to die for.
Friendly service, food came out very quickly, adorable decorations, and delicious food!
Green curry is good
On of my favorite spots for Thai food in the Triangle. Well prepared dishes, with all the favorites from pad thai to green curry.
One of my favorite Thai restaurants. The food is consistently good and the staff is very nice.
Great food.
One star for a customer service even though Google shows they close at 10pm I went there at 9:21 on Friday and they were closed. They didn’t seem to care they will close early then mentioned time on friday night.
Exceptional quality and flavor.
Best Thai food ever, but the wait for your food is a little long. Have a snack to hold you up while you wait.
Great food and service. Pretty cozy and feels very homey
Great pad thai. The restaurant was very clean and the staff were wonderful.
So good.
Great Food. Very Friendly Service. Authentic Thai selections.
Good food, just the right amount of spicy and good selection for lunch. They were busy but our food came out quickly, hot and all at the same time.
Meat was tough, meal had no flavor
Love Tommy and Tan...everyone working there really!! Always sweet and we are in and out in 30 mins! Large portions, amazing salad dressing and Pad Thai!! Love the atmosphere too!
