Wasabi has been delighting the Cary community with delicious Japanese and Thai cuisine since 2003. You can find us in the Macgregor shopping center. Whether you're planning a family meal, a special date, or a relaxed hangout with friends, Wasabi is the perfect spot for you
Been here before and enjoyed it. Came this time with family for an anniversary. While the service was very good and a nice atmosphere, nobody was really crazy about the food. The sushi was kinda dry and not much flavor. Sesame chicken was mediocre at premium price. Just had better. Probably won’t be back.
I think any compliment I could give would be illustrated best by the fact that I go here for lunch almost every day I can. I'll admit some of what I've tried wasn't to my taste despite the incredible presentation, but now that I've found what I enjoy I can't stop going back. I've been to a lot of sushi restaurants across the country and their miso soup is probably the best I've ever had, their portions are generous for the price, the fish is high quality, and their staff is stellar. I haven't tried the Thai side of their menu very much so I can't really comment on it, but the Japanese side absolutely keeps me coming back again and again.
Stopped in for a quick lunch and absolutely loved it....I ordered the Thai Spicy Basil and it was delicious AND it came with Miso Soup (you can choose a salad too). I also ordered a Tuna California Roll. The food came out quickly and was delicious. The cost was $12 and it was very well worth it. Hope to go back again soon
Great lunch Sushi spot. All staff were friendly and helpful. Large selection of sushi.

It’s a good place to have lunch with friends.
I loved

Everything is so good here! We have been coming here for like 5+ years and always enjoy it
Been here so many times. The food is great, there is a lot of variety on the menu
Go-to lunch spot for me and my coworkers. I haven’t had a lunch special that I didn’t like. I especially enjoy the pad thai, pad see ew, and orange chicken. I don’t normally get sushi for lunch but I’ve had it and it’s really good too. I just wish I didn’t live so far away otherwise
Skip the Japanese food. My beef teriyaki looked like a McRib drowned in teriyaki sauce and had zero seasoning. My miso soup had to be sent back because it was luke warm at best. The sushi is definitely the star of the show. My husband had the Thai sesame chicken and it was good.
I had to give 0 stars for this place…I recently had an extremely disappointing experience at Wasabi. My family/friends and I, including our friends twin babies who are 1 yr old, went there for what we hoped would be a pleasant meal, but it turned out to be anything but.
First, the service was slow and inattentive. It took ages for our order to be taken, and when the food finally arrived, it was mediocre at best—lukewarm, and oily. But the real issue came when a staff member approached us to tell us to keep our baby quiet for the sake of “other customers.”( FYI.. we are trying very hard to console the baby..)
I was absolutely appalled. Babies make noise; that’s what they do. Instead of showing understanding or offering a family-friendly approach, they made us feel unwelcome and judged. This completely ruined our meal and left us feeling humiliated in a place that should have been accommodating to families.
The atmosphere was already tense, with cramped seating, so the irony of asking us to “lower the noise” was not lost on me. On top of that, the staff’s lack of empathy made it clear they do not value customers with young children.
I will not be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend Wasabi to anyone, especially families with kids. If you’re looking for a place that values kindness and hospitality, this is not it.
We wanted to mention the name of the person who is rude but they refused to reveal the name. Also please put a sign in front of your restaurant saying babies are not allowed instead of humiliating the parents with your gestures or words.
Food was tasty but a little pricey. Service was very good.
Great staff. They were attentive and available despite busy holiday. Lots of great menu choices. Wonderful food quality.
Great sushi! We got take out and I definitely would again. Would be nice if they still had BOGO
Sushi was very good. I had the Fire Cracker roll.
This sushi was quite expensive ($100+) for sub-par quality. This is my first time ordering and I went off the stellar reviews, but we’re pretty disappointed. If you like a higher quality of sushi, I’m afraid this isn’t the spot for you.
Great sushi / sashimi. Awesome Thai food as well. My go to is the Crunchy Salmon Roll. Thai fried rice and soups are excellent.
Wasabi is my go-to for sushi because it’s consistently fresh and tasty! Their orange chicken is a must-try, too. It’s so citrusy in the best way. I also love their red Thai curry for when I’m craving comfort food. One of the best spots in Cary!
Just finished a dinner with my husband and we both really enjoyed our food. I had the TomKha soup with chicken and it was very good. I also had the shrimp in blanket appetizer which I could tell was freshly made and perfectly cooked. My husband had the poke bowl and it was fresh and beautifully laid out with the omitted ingredients left out as he asked. I really enjoyed the yellow jacket cocktail, it was well shaken, delicious and pretty with the garnish. Prices were fair, atmosphere was busy but our food was served quick. Staff was very friendly. We will definitely be back. Thank you!

Great food great service.
The Tom Kha soup… unreal. If I lived here I would be coming way too often. Literally everything we ordered was chefs kiss. But that soup tho … my mouth is watering thinking about it.
Our go to for sushi !
Ordered sushi takeout for the first time from here and was not impressed. Sushi didn’t taste very fresh.
Always good food, at decent price.. Though in recent years quantity of food dropped dramatically, prices went up, still nice place in this cluater of various restaurants, this is the best option
Ordered Chicken Teriyaki menu states it comes with steamed vegetables…it included one broccoli and one cauliflower….literally just two pieces! Don’t order this dish if you’re looking for a lot of vegetables.
All around an excellent place to experience amazing quisine and friendly/efficient staff. I come here atleast once a year and never disappoints.
If fresh friendly and amazing was a place this would be it… love the Thai food
My wife and I went here for dinner last night, and not only was the sushi great, but the motorcycles coming into Macgregor village was even better! We went to Asali for dessert and the back then/hotshots to watch football, and overall the entire environment was extremely friendly and great to be around! They told me it’s once a month, & we’ll definitely be back!
I'm a big fan of sushi and this place is no exception. Delicious sushi, good staff, lots of variety and they are also motorcycle friendly.
Grabbed sushi one bike night and have been coming back ever since. They make some of the best sushi I've had in the triangle and Thai food too!! The massamann curry was delicious🤤. Amazing food and great atmosphere inside and out especially on bike nights
Absolutely love this place! The food and staff are fantastic and they’re incredibly supportive of “bike night” with our local motorcycle group. Kids and parents alike seem to love looking at the bikes and having a chance to throw their kids up on one for the first time. Such an incredible place to be so supportive and have such good food and staff.
Our waiter forgot to bring out my miso soup & dropped off our flight of sake without any explanation as to which was which. My wife’s chicken was really tough so she barely ate any of it. I mentioned all of this to the hostess as we were leaving & she said she would “look into it.” Not sure what that meant since I see on my statement I was still charged the full bill. Overall terrible experience. We will not be returning.
2nd time there, first time was for sushi which was quite good. 2nd time had Panang Curry Thai food. It took very long to get the food and then the beef was tough and vegetables undercooked in some cases raw. Would not recommend for Thai food.
I didn't care for the way the meals were prepared. It was different from any Thai restaurant I've been in.
Great food! Great prices!!!!! Quick service for lunch.
I forgot how yummy Wasabi is! Life changed directions for me so I wasn't going to Wasabi often.... not in my path, let's say. Love that Thai Beef Soup, Green Curry, and Eggplant Hotpeppers. What a delicious meal. I'm eating it now and wanted to give a shoutout to the restaurant!
Every time I’m out in the village for bike night, Wasabi has been a welcome venue with lovely staff and delicious food. It’s no question where we’re eating!
This is a Cary classic. Great service, food and atmosphere. I’ve known this place for more than ten years and never disappoints.
Great food, great service.
We got there about 5:30 on a Saturday, managed to get a table with no wait, but the place was already hopping.
Hostesses looked classy in all black. Service was really good, water glass never got less than half full.
It was me, my wife and our daughter, celebrating my wife's birthday. we got the Wasabi platter as an appetizer and the boat for 2 as our meal. After it was all said and done under a c-note; not bad at all. Perfect amount of food for the 3 of us, but there were no leftovers.
Some really nice pieces on the boat, of course all the tuna varieties we really loved. About the only thing we didn't like was the octopus. Someone stopped by our table to ask how we were doing, and was very knowledgeable about the sushi.
Side note, best ginger dressing I've ever had on the salad! Sometimes it's the little things.
When our meal was over we headed over to Asali and got some cheesecake and coffee.
This place was excellent! Thoroughly enjoyed my food, the service was knowledgeable very friendly and tentative. Atmosphere was nice and warm and welcoming. Parking is easy with a nearby lot.
I recommend the tea… Though I don’t remember the name.
Amazing food and great service. Try the coconut cake if you go, not too sweet and very fresh!
Over the past 5 years we have sampled most of the Japanese restaurants in Raleigh, Durham, and the western suburbs. Wasabi is our favorite for quality and value. The staff is very friendly and attentive. They want to make sure you are having a great experience, and seem truly happy to be there, which makes dining at Wasabi a pleasure every time.
Flying salmon roll was the best!
Delicious food and lovely atmosphere.
Really HOT coconut milk curry
Excellent taste. Salad really good too.
Service excellent
Good variety of menu, you can find all the types of seafood. The presentation is good and taste is also good.
You have to definitely prebook, this place is crowded on a weekday itself.
I dined at Wasabi primarily for the extensive variety on their menu. Accompanied by a friend who was new to sushi but eager to explore new flavors, our experience was delightful. While my companion opted for hibachi, I was thrilled by the wide selection of sushi rolls available.
Our server, whose name eludes me at the moment, was exceptionally pleasant and well-versed in the menu. She effortlessly recommended dishes based on my seafood preferences, enhancing our dining experience.
Edamame (Gluten Free) $6
Lightly salted steamed soybeans
Fried Rice (Gluten Free)
Jasmine rice, egg, onions, scallions
Yellowtail* $8
Flaming Salmon* $15
I/O, spicy kani, avocado, cream cheese, tempura flakes, masago, scallions topped with seared salmon, spicy mayo, eel sauce
We opted for water as our beverage choice and unfortunately, I did not have the chance to explore the restaurant's restroom. The ambiance was lively, with a motorcycle gathering adding to the vibrant atmosphere. Seated by the window, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Wasabi and am grateful for the opportunity to revisit this exceptional dining establishment.
They have a special, Khao Soi, that is one of the best dishes I have had since moving to North Carolina. Highly recommend!
This place is tucked away in MacGregor village but it's probably one of the best sushi places I've had in the area. The atmosphere inside is very chill and relaxing and I've never gotten bad service there.
All of the sushi they have tastes incredibly fresh and you really can't go wrong with any of them. In addition to this they offer both Thai and Japanese cuisine on their menus. I haven't had the chance to try all of it but the Thai curry that I tried previously was very good.
Great friendly and helpful service and the food tastes great. This Canadian will be back!!
The Khao Soi was fantastic!
This was our second trip to Wasabi, and it was just as delicious as the first. It's on the higher end, price wise, but it's worth it. Gluten free items are marked on the menu and you can request modifications to some of the rolls. They also have fresh wasabi for an extra charge, which is delicious.
Ordered the drunken noodles combo and the portion is substantial. Nice amount of heat to the noodles as well
My "go to spot" for the best sushi in town. And this comes from a person who went all over downtown Raleigh. Wasabi combines the best of friendly service, a robust menu, and incredible flavor at their establishment.
I'm happy to recommend them to anyone and everyone!
Flaming Salmon and Sexy Roll are great for beginners. And the steamed pork dumplings. 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
Just went there last night with some motorcycle friends & had an awesome dinner! Thank you for letting us park nearby! Definitely gonna bring more of us out!
What a great place! The food is amazing and so is the staff and atmosphere. Family friendly but also nice enough to take that special someone to. I’ll definitely be re-visiting as the food was superb. I ride my motorcycle there and they allow me to park right in front of the building. What a great place 🤙🏼🤙🏼
My fiance Joshua loves sushi and this place is always so kind letting him park his motorcycle there and just so down to earth and kind hearted workers
We had amazing cocktails like whatamelon, bamboo mango, etc. All tasted good. We ordered lots of food like crab Rangoon, vegetable sushi, khao soi, drunken noodles with chicken. Everything was really good. We were upset with whole fried fish because there are not even basic spices added to it like salt and pepper. Service and ambiance were good too.
I’m not sure what’s better here between the sushi or the service. The place is top notch, & love stopping here for lunch on a Sunday motorcycle ride. They always let me park on the sidewalk so I really appreciate that!
Place seemed to be great since I grew up in Cary and I was seated instantly, which was nice. From there, me and my fiancé sat at our table for 15+ minutes without WATER. At that point, I tried grabbing someone’s attention but after 5minutes of actively asking for service, we decided to leave. Wish we actually had a chance to try the food.
Overall phenomenal experience here, sushi was excellent, service was fast, and the staff was super friendly! Me and some of my friends come here after work and park our bikes up nearby, & they're a super accommodating and motorcyclist friendly establishment! Love the fact that the motorcyclist don't take over car parking!
I am regular visitor to this place from last 8 years. Always its been good and served what was ordered. I am rating this low for a reason recently I have ordered Vegi Massaman curry and they have delivered Massaman curry veg mixed with some meat. This happened for me 2 times in last 3 months.
Staff was friendly, great atmosphere and the Thai beef soup was the best I've ever had.
Food lacked flavor and was quite boring, not worth the value whatsoever. The manager was rude and had a bad attitude when we asked to return one of the sushi rolls that literally had nothing inside except imitation crab since they were out of shrimp today, and still charged us for it. Would never come back, simply because of the rude manager and being treated unpleasantly.
I am a regular customer, sometimes ordering from here once a week. With that said our salmon crunch order delivered via grub hub had a strong smell. We all noticed right away and did not need or want to taste it. When I called the restaurant the lady I spoke to was not concerned (since she was the one training someone else and helped with the order) or took it seriously and even questioned if my impress of the fish was ok. , she also just said I would have to contact grub job for a refund. I am shocked by the lack of concern or customer care and service! I would have at least offered something (despite the third party) to make it right or assured that it will be checked and not going to happen in the future. Did not get that feeling from the phone call. Very disappointing!
The food is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I have eaten tempura at Wasabi many times. Tonight it was so sub par I writing this review to warn others.
The shrimp is no longer real shrimp.. the owners know this and try unsuccessfully to hide the very poor quality shrimp substitute with fake out of a box crunchy tempura mix.
The veggies did have traditional tempura crust but they were not fresh or cooked well.
And the entire plate was dripping oil..
The salad with ginger dressing was excellent...
The service was very good.
Very disappointed and sad about the dop in quality at Wasabi restaurant in Cary, NC.
Good food and quick service. Had the dragon and lobster sushi, both were fresh and good.
We have been to this restaurant for years and have always loved the food and atmosphere. Today, when checked out, we were informed by our server that we are required to tip at least 18% on top of our bill, which has never happened before; keep in mind that we did give her 15%, which we think is fair based on her attitude and how she served us then we got corrected by her. She explained the reason is their wage is too low, and I think the customer should be freely tipped based on their server performance, not being forced by the owner's choice on wages. If this is how the restaurant decides to operate, then we have to reconsider where we want to have dinner next.
Good suggestions from waiters
Hands-down, in my honest opinion, the best Asian restaurant in Cary! An amazing and vast menu with lots of vegetarian and vegan options! The atmosphere is casual yet feels special and upscale! Great variety of cocktails, wines and beers on draft... The sushi station is huge! Clearly very popular among people in the community! McGregor village is very conveniently located and has plenty of parking! The wait staff are extremely professional, and don't loom over you, but at the same time, ensure that stuff arrives in a timely manner. This is overall an excellent place that we keep going back to!
Enjoyed the sushi here! Nice option in this shopping center.
This place has some great appetizers. I recommend the crab puffs and tempura. My main dish (beef yakisoba) didn't wow me, therefore, i gave 4 stars. Other than that the service was great and the atmosphere was nice! The drinks were also enjoyable. I recommend the pomegranatini.
Hands-down, the best Thai restaurant I have been to, and one of the best restaurants I have ever been to in general! Atmosphere was extremely clean and welcoming from the moment my girlfriend and I walked in. Waitress was very friendly and provided many suggestions of the many quality options on the menu!
I ended up ordering the fried gyoza, Thai iced tea, and Panang curry, while my girlfriend ordered the Miso soup and Hawaiian poke bowl, and all were very well made and satiating. Couldn't have had a better experience and look forward to coming again!
(P.S., the music choice including some of my favorite artists, such as dhruv and keshi, was just icing on the cake! 😉)
This is one of the only places my office will order take out sushi from. Quality is wonderful even after the drive and our food is always ready quickly. Staff is super friendly, definitely recommend.
We recently moved to the Apex area from Cary. Best sushi I’ve had in a long time! My boyfriend and I had our anniversary dinner here yesterday and we ordered sushi mori (this was our second time ordering food here). The nigiri melts in your mouth. Wish I took pictures but we were too hungry. 😅
They include 15% or 18% service charge in the bill, and then ask for a 18% tip on top. Stay away.
First time going here and was presently surprised. The food was good as well as portion size. Had fried rice and a sushi roll. The service was great and the place looked clean. I would come back if in the area again.
Went back to Wasabi after a while. Tried some new dishes that were actually really good!
Orange chicken was excellent. I always enjoy their spring rolls and edamame too. Server was efficient and very pleasant.
Great food, service, and calming atmosphere.
One of our go to places. Amazing tofu, vegan, and vegetarian options! 💪💪😎😎
Lunch special ranges $10-18 and are pretty small. Quality is average.
Food is pretty good, service is fast and efficient. The decor tho, meh...
Used to like this place but then I explored more and more sushi restaurants in the triangle and after going back to this one I realized how underwhelming the sushi is here. Our server barely checked on us and didn’t give us the dishes for our soy sauce. The sushi rice resembles grocery store sushi and the fish has no flavor. Most of the rolls are super similar and are bland. For the same price go to akami and taste the difference even with the most simple roll there!! Wasabi has potential but they don’t see it.
That is the best sushi in the area with very friendly and helpful staff
The best sushi around! Several rolls we tried were fantastic.
Great sushi at reasonable prices. A good restaurant in a food little shopping center. Especially enjoyed the tempura that we had there.
The green curry with shrimp was great! There was a generous portion of shrimp, and the curry had a good amount of heat without being overbearing. The coconut cake was also delicious.
The atmosphere is wonderful. It is beautifully set up the flowers on the table are lovely.
I ordered the basil roll, which had in them what looked like mushroom. Turns out it was chicken. If you don't eat meat, make sure that you read the menu!
Ginger dressing is fantastic.
Was nice overall. Service was quick, great for lunch.
My wife got the lunch special Pad Thai with miso soup. I got the lunch special Fried Rice with tofu. Both were good. The miso soup was good. The Thai Tea had excellent flavor.
The fried rice was basmati rice, which although it had a good flavor, it was difficult to pick up with chopsticks. The tofu was very delicate, with a thin golden outside.
Love Wasabi. Local restaurant where the food is always good. You can't go wrong whether you choose sushi or Thai food.
Very good food and value. The Tom yum was very very good.
Got to say this is an awesome spot to eat. Our waitress, Pear, was great and her recommendations were awesome. Had the Hawaiian rice, firecracker roll, and bunch of other awesome stuff. Great spot for first date since you can do the escape room or game tavern right after upstairs.
Delicious, consistent, high quality sushi, with a great wine menu, and selection of Japanese and Thai food. I love coming here as a special treat with my significant other, and I enjoy the setting, the location (next to two dessert shops and a board gamery!), the food, and the attentive service. A wonderful date night or girls' option!
So glad they’re back open!! Super consistent! Great Thai food (papaya salad & drunken noodles specifically) AND great sushi. Cheers
Great food and great service
Love this place!
First of all I would just like to say this place I've been there before and I went there today ordered the same thing and same thing happened to me the last time I've been there same table how to same food Thai basil beef and it was same as last time it came with no basil And this time I win it happened to me again I had a Thai basil bathe with no basil and what is shame is they don't give you authentic Thai Rice Jasmine Rice when I went there last time they gave me Uncle Ben Rice and you know what the waitress did she brought me this long grain Rice Saying that they never served a show grain rice is funny because she told me you Can't get authentic Thai rice here because it's not Thailand she told me She told me she is 100%Thailand she told me that's where she came from I said okay and she Said you cannotGet 100% Thai rice Jasmine riyes you can you could go to H mart and get thatReal Jasmine rice not that fake stuff see American people don't know what it should taste like I'm not American I am an Asian I shouldn't know what it takes like it says that you guys don't want to pay for the rice and people are just I don't know what they satisfied with it when I eat I want to eat Thai food it has to be a real Jasmine rice I think the waitress basically think I was stupid
I had dinner here with some of my friends, and I have to say that this is a fantastic Thai restaurant with a wide selection of delicious food. The atmosphere is wonderful and the staff is really friendly. In particular, I enjoyed the incredibly tasty vegetarian sushi, red Thai curry, and vegetarian spring rolls. Must try out this place.
Classic location in our neighborhood. An anchor for the area
Best Thai in the triangle. Pad si ew with chicken and the salad with carrot ginger dressing for lunch is amazing.
First time dining here. Friendly, polite, prompt attention from hostess, server and sushi chef. Excellent tiger roll. Large varied menu of sushi and Thai entrees, several soups and starters as well. Dining room nearly full on a weeknight, many people coming in for take out orders. Parking is not close due to design of shopping center. Nice open area outside in front of restaurant. I will definitely return.
.
As of October 2023 Wasabi has re opened and they are back in business! No more BOGO sushi.
The food is fast, fresh, tastes great and always consistent. The duck is superb. I eat here weekly as a treat and will I continue to do so. Well done!
Update October 2023; They are finally back!we lost BOGO sushi, but the excellent service, quality and flavors are still there! We will definitely come back!
Original Review; Love this place! Consistency is the key here! Quality haven't changed in the many years we were going here.. not even during the pandemic. Great for a quick Sushi bite or a full meal.
To top the flavors and quality, the service is excellent, never had a single issue.
Definitely recommend!
Food was good - the selection is very eclectic. I was with a large group and the staff struggled a bit to keep up even with a fairly low volume of other patrons in the restaurant, but their efforts to make up for any shortcomings were well placed.
Howdy! Thanks for sharing your experience. It sounds like you had a fun time at the place, enjoying the sake and trying out their sushi and Thai food. While the overall experience was good, it's a shame nothing stood out and wowed you. Nonetheless, it's always nice to have a place nearby to relax and unwind. Here's to more exciting adventures in the future!
Bon Appetit!
It burned down and they are rebuilding. It will open soon as they can
Great food and service.
