A Taste of Thai Street Food
Saranrom Thai truly lives up to its Michelin star! Every dish we tried was perfection. The portions are generous, making it a great value.
The squid pad Thai was expertly balanced with vibrant flavors, while the pineapple fried rice was a delightful twist that combined sweetness and savory notes beautifully. The papaya salad was refreshingly crisp, offering the perfect contrast to the richer dishes. The fried calamari was light and crispy, and the fried garlic chicken stir fry was bursting with flavor.
Each bite was a testament to the chef's skill. Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic Thai cuisine!
Food was great, had the spicy minced pork, pineapple curry duck and pork kebabs. Everything was incredibly good, very flavorful with some good heat. The duck was the best, didn’t even need a knife it was so tender. We also had the fried ice cream for dessert and the dough was awesome. Would definitely recommend and go back. Also the price was phenomenal for the quality of food and the amount. For 2 people it was $72 and that includes the sake we ordered.
There’s quite a few Thai restaurants in this area and Saranrom Thai definitely is one of my favorite spots now. I’ve been twice now and both times, the food has a good balance of flavors, great service, and no wait to sit and eat inside. I’d definitely recommend this spot for any Thai food lover.
🥗 Yum Pla Duk Fu: This salad was so so much bigger than I expected. Perhaps it was because the mangos weren’t in season but they were neither super sour nor sweet unfortunately but I guess that could be a good thing too. When you dig into the shredded catfish and bread crumbs it’s super crispy and delightful to chew but I really struggled to find or taste the catfish. I think it was a good combination of textures and flavors though. I’d probably try another salad next time because this felt a bit heavier for an appetizer.
🥘 Curry Puffs: The outside pastry layer had a thin crisp layer that was super easy to bite into. I really enjoyed the stuffing. It wasn’t super spicy - felt like the Golden Curry Mild flavor with some other veggies in it. I took it home and shared it and it was still enjoyable and yummy!
🇹🇭 Pad Thai with Crispy Pork: I really enjoyed the flavors of this dish. A bit sour, sweet, and savory. I think the only thing I would really dock a point for here was the crispy pork. There were some pieces that were cooked kinda well, there was a slight crunch but other pieces did not feel crispy at all unfortunately.
🥢 Pad See Ew with Chicken: I really enjoyed the flavors of their Pad See Ew. The noodles were soft and chewy with just enough sauce so that the dish didn’t feel super wet or salty. The veggies were easy to chew and added a much appreciated crunchy texture to the dish. The chicken was a bit more on the well done side so it could be a bit dry but if you eat it with the noodles, it’ll be fine.
🌼 Spring Rolls: These were complimentary but a nice lil snack on the side. Not too much flavor but got some tasty filling and dipped in a sweet and sour sauce that was pretty good!
☕️ Thai Tea: I’ll hit this drink with the compliment: it’s not too sweet. Has the Thai tea aftertaste and the milk and tea blends well.
🥭 Mango Sticky Rice: It was unfortunate the mangos were not as sweet as I had hoped but the rice was my favorite part of this dish. None of the grains felt too dry. It was cooked well with a nice chew but still soft enough to easily enjoy. The coconut dressed on top wasn’t overpowering and the taste was more subtle. The crispy seeds were a wonderful addition that complimented the softness of the rest of the dish. I wish there was a bit more of it.
🎖️ Service: All of the staff were super kind and friendly. They were attentive to the customers and checked in regularly.
I’m always a little skeptical about trying out new Thai food in the city. Most of the dishes I tried in the past tend to be too sweet for my savory and spicy palate. However this place got me loving Thai again, all of the dishes we ordered were so authentic and flavorful that even I don’t mind a little sweetness in them. You know food is great when you can actually enjoy every flavor in it. Plus the portion size is huge, they make entrees of most of the Manhattan Thai places look like appetizers. Last but not least, Our server, Jacob, was an absolute gem. He knew the menu, offered great recommendations, and cared about guest feedback. I will definitely come back for more great dishes! Highly recommend! (Also look how cute the drink is! We even forgot to take pictures cause the food was that good.)
Very solid Thai restaurant with a cozy atmosphere!
Service was top top notch. They were super friendly and helpful with the menu all the way through. Dishes I'd highly recommend are the catfish salad (app) and the crab fried rice.
Prices were very fair (perk of being in Elmhurst?) Will be back when I'm in the area!
Terrible service. Went to eat with my kids. The person in the front had huge attitude and not doing fair job. It was freezing cold outside and wait time changed from 30 min to over two hours in 30 min intervals wait time changed without any apologies. It was a family event, otherwise never waited. No matter how the food is or how many stars is gets from any reviewer, never ever recommend this stingy tiny place.
ก๋งวนเตี๋ยวเป็ดอร่อยมากค่ะ คิมเบอรี่บริการดีเยี่ยม
Kimberly servince very good
Best Thai Food in Queens.
Food very good.
Better than Thai diner.
Service: server asked us if we were ready to order right after we sat down; as I haven’t got time to check menu yet;
Server asked us if the food is good, right after putting down 3 plates of entries onto our table; however we haven’t started to eat yet.
As diners, we loved the food and we will be back for sure.
Oh: one can call the restaurant to make reservation!
Food was amazing! I got the Tom Yum Soup and it was delicious, service was good as well. It was very busy and there were a lot of people waiting for a table so I would strongly recommend calling ahead and making a reservation. I didn’t see anywhere to make a reservation online but when I called I was able to!
100/5 stars
價格合宜,口味稍重,但是味道很好吃。
Food is great and great service!
The best & most authentic Thai there is. They say "medium" is Thai-spicy, but don't let that fool you. Medium is still plenty edible. Ask for more if you dare, but this is a real "told-you-so" scenario. Everything is incredible.
Food was no Good ..!
One of the best thai spot in Queens!
Had I known a 20 minute wait would turn into a 1 hour wait, I would have went somewhere else. So was it worth it? It’s a very quaint place and the food is good but I had better. We had quite a few dishes. In my opinion, they were spotty or somewhat over the top. My first bite of crab fried rice was extra salty but the rest was not. Others were too sweet. Eat a lot of rice.
Dont order the pineapple fried rice with chicken they are going to put 90% rice and 10%percent little baby shreds of meat and the lychee juice tasted like metal
THE
One of my favorite places to eat in Elmhurst! This is my second time visiting and I want to try everything on the menu. My family really enjoyed everything we ordered, especially the pineapple duck curry! Everyone was really nice here. Thank you to our server Jacob for taking the time to recommend dishes and for being so kind :)

We started with the tom yum which punches you in the face with flavor. It's an excellent wake up call for the meal. We then went for the crispy duck salad and the kee mao Thai, both of which were fantastic and innovative.
The portion sizes were the most surprising thing, they give you a lot of food for the price and quality.
I wish I could eat the whole menu and will definitely be back.
Amazing amazing food specially their crispy pork basil
Both me and my husband came all the way from Boston just to try the tom yum soup which was too notch. We also tried mooping which is pork sticks which was amazing. Literally loved the people around. Would definitely visit again.!
Have you ever had food so spicy that your ears are ringing, vision gets blurry, and you're thinking if eating spicy food is covered under your travel insurance? Because that's what it felt like when I had Thai food back in Bangkok, Thailand.
Craving the same experience, we headed down to SaRanRom at Elmhurst to try out their amazing food. Oh, also did I mention that it was a Michelin Bib Gourmand?
To my brave gastronomic explorers, the som tum Thai is a dish that you MUST order if you are looking to challenge your spice tolerance. The way that the Thai spice hits you is ever so subtle, but you would definitely feel its growing presence with every bite. 10/10
The khao soi came quickly after and the creamy curry helps to ease the spice from the som tum. Make sure to mix the sauce thoroughly with the noodles to get that consistent creamy texture with the noodles. You definitely must crumple the fried noodles to crumbs to get that added texture. Only thing that felt lacking was that the chicken tasted a little dry (caveat that we were slow at eating the khao soi). 6/10
The main star of the show: crispy garlic pork, was absolutely stunning. Thai food always excelled in handling pork dishes, and SaRanRom is no exception. While it came with the sauce to go with the crispy pork, we had it just as itself, the acapella version, and it was satisfying. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, need I say more? 10/10
The staff were very attentive as well, providing great service, and took the time to check in on us to see if everything was OK. The interior of the place was also very cozy; definitely check out this place when you are in Little Thailand.
While I did not get my ears-ringing, eyes-blinding spice, it was definitely a dining experience that brought us back to Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit. I meant Bangkok.
Overall Rating: 8.5/10
Hands down one of the best Thai restaurants I’ve been to! The flavors are incredibly authentic and fresh. I always get the crispy pork basil, drunken noodle and basil sauce minced pork, all the dishes were packed with flavor – the balance of sweet, savory, and spicy was perfect. I can’t wait to come back and try more dishes.
This was the first time we were here. Everything was amazing. It's much better than Ayada since they sold to another company. Would definitely come back. The menu was very diverse. The only negative is it is very small. So get there early.
אוכל מעולה ומיוחד הקינוח לא היה משהו
still superb and actually friendly today
Authentic Thai food with great price, Sarun and Emily given the best service, lovely people and good vibes place, will visit again.
Incredible food and value. Highly recommend.
Just one block across from Elmhurst Hospital, you can find 9 Michelin Bib Gourmand-listed dishes here at Raranrom Thai. The dining area has a good ambiance and is quite inviting; however, it can't seat too many. Cramped between the dining area and the door is the cashier counter. Outside the door is the makeshift, semi-permanent waiting area, which is also very cramped. There's almost no room to walk through if both sides of the chairs are occupied!
On my visit today, there were a lot of people waiting, standing. This is both good and bad. It means it's popular, but there's no room to even wait—unless you want to wait outside in the 20-degree weather. My only option was to squeeze through to the cashier and order two dishes to go.
Stewed Pork Leg ($15.95): It came with one serving of rice. It was tender overall, almost reminding me of pork belly. A small portion of the lean meat was on the tough side, but overall, it was cooked almost to perfection. It tasted great with a soy base and was slightly sweet. I wished there were more mustard greens, but there was plenty of Chinese broccoli. The sauce was mild; I could almost have it without rice. 5 out of 5.
Pad Ped Pla Duk ($17.95): No, this isn't duck, but stir-fried catfish. It also came with one serving of rice. I specified mild spice, and I wouldn't want it to be any spicier. I like the taste; however, it might be a bit exotic for some, especially with green peppercorn and finger root. One huge con for the dish: I couldn't devour and enjoy the fish because the catfish is totally bone-in and with LOTS of bones. I couldn't have one chew without spitting out a few bones at the same time. For me, that experience totally ruined the dish. This is one of the Michelin Bib Gourmand dishes. Obviously, I'm out of the league and have to give it a 3 out of 5.
Despite batting one out of two, we were very excited about this find and we have every intention of coming back for more.
I like chili fried rice. Very delicious
Awesome
Our group was there several Sundays ago for our friend’s birthday. Shout out to the Sunday staff (Jacob, Mintty, Emily, Mimi, Manny and Porpla) for making our lunch such a wonderful experience. We ordered a delicious spread, desserts and they even brought out candles and sang happy birthday to our friend! The food is always great and authentic. I grew up in Thailand and they have so many things I love on their menu u. They have lots of dishes that are not commonly served at Thai restaurants in the US. Price is so reasonable given the portion/presentation compared to other well known places in Manhattan. Highly recommend! Kop khun mak ka 🙏🏼 FYI for groups, you can call to make reservations!
If you love thai food in queens. Saranrom is a must- try. It’s a perfect meal for a rainy day .
I visit regularly because the food is fantastic. Their beef noodle soup is incredibly delicious, with rich flavors and perfectly cooked beef. On top of that, the service is excellent—friendly and attentive staff that make the experience even better. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys comforting and flavorful
Thank you >Kimberry
I live everything about this place. Amazing everything.
Would not expect to find this little gem in Elmhurst. Dishes were authentic and not your usual “Pad-Thai” menu, which was refreshing.
Dessert was even funkier-in a good way!
Loved the WV vibe and atmosphere it gave me, and Jacob , J-A-C-O-B, as he generously spelled for me, was an absolute sweetheart!
Very accommodating.
Try this cozy and yummy place! Especially cozy with their cute holiday decor!
The best Thai restaurant best services and staff are so friendly and the best authentic Thai food ever ! Love love 💕 recommend
Everything here is fantastic. The food is incredible, the service is top-notch, and the atmosphere is relaxed. We especially love the Yum Pla Duk Fu Salad (Crispy Catfish Salad).
The best Thai spot I have ever been to! Went here to grab a dinner because they had Michelin Star awards and couldn’t believe the price is not even pricy at all! We had 3 dishes on the table + fried ice cream and the total before tips were only $73
Portions wise and the flavor is unbelievable, and the service was fantastic. Will definitely come back next time!
Nice small space Thai restaurant in the middle of the busy area of Elmhurst, Queens NY. During weekends it is very busy so highly recommended to make reservations. The easiest way to get there is the MTA subway or bus, car parking is tough to find. Service is great, food is good I love crab fried rice and clam basil. Their cocktails are ok but they have cute glasses for different drinks. Anybody will come here with high expectations since they are a Michelin star restaurant and they don't disappoint.
Really great Thai food with plenty of "off the beaten path" dishes hard to find in the run of the mill Thai joint. The Khao soi was phenomenal - an entire huge leg and thigh was included along with the usual fixings, and the broth was thick and flavorful. Boat noodles were rich and gamey. Got some pad see Ew for my kids and it was flavorful too.
Service is warm. Place is very small but cute.
Ridiculously insanely salty food that gave me a headache and cut the insides of my mouth at the end.
Service is questionable as we reserved beforehand but still made us wait 20-25 minutes.
If they took down the salt a notch, and made it more balanced flavors- it would be much more enjoyable. If this is the norm, not sure why it’s rated so high.
Duck curry! Definitely a must try! I didn’t like duck so I was hesitant to try, but this absolutely blew my mind!
Great food ! Will be one on my favorite places
First of all, I have heard about Saranrom for a long time that they were recommended by the Michelin Guide. Since I already had dinner, I decided to get something light including Miang Kha-Na(the leafy green wrap appetizer) and papaya salad with salted blue crab. As a Thai person, I could say that food from here taste the same as Thai food we have back in Thailand.
On top of that, I had a pleasure of being served by Mint(a lovely lady with a beautiful smile!). She was kind, personable, generous and enhanced my dining experience with both mental and social intelligence. Food is amazing, but the service is DEVINE.
Very good Thai restaurant with interesting dishes you won’t find in most Thai places. Absolutely worth the wait and probably the best that food in Elmhurst.
Good food , Good service . Kimberly was very nice and friendly . Definitely, come back!!
Kimberly good service good looking i'll be back again
Came here with a group for the first time for a friend’s birthday dinner, and we had the best time thanks to the friendly, wonderful people who work here! The drinks were delicious, the food was even better, and the service was top notch. Will definitely be coming back!
I love the catfish salad here! It’s amazing! Staffs are friendly and considerate!
My partner and I love Saranrom Thai and usually dine in at least twice a week because the food is always delicious, and the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Today, we decided to place a pickup order since we were too busy to dine in, but unfortunately, it wasn’t the experience we’re used to.
My partner ordered his usual Thai Fried Rice with tofu (he’s vegetarian), but the rice wasn’t fully cooked, making it hard to eat. It also tasted bland compared to how flavorful it usually is. He still ate some to avoid waste, but it upset his stomach.
I ordered Ke Mao Thai with chicken, which was excellent, but my Som-Tum Ka-Pi came with crunchy pork skin, which wasn’t mentioned on the menu. Since I don’t eat pork, I had to throw it away.
We love Saranrom Thai and hope this feedback helps maintain the wonderful quality we’ve always enjoyed. Looking forward to coming back soon!
Very delicious! Will come back soon! Btw, Jacob is very nice!
First time having authentic Thai and this is probably some of the best food I’ve ever eaten! I would rate more stars if I could. Cozy atmosphere and friendly staff with amazing food!
Not only is the food excellent, but the hospitality is exceptional by the staff as well. Will definitely continue to return!
I live very close and this is one of my top 5 local restaurants. Get the pad see ew, duck curry, miang kha-na, fish cakes, curry puffs. One of the loveliest places to eat at in the area. It's cozy, smells great, and they play videos of Thai people cooking traditional Thai food outdoors!
This place definitely has a lot of hype. This is a delivery review. I haven't tried all the dishes here. I like the flavor of the green curry. However, I do think they skimp on the vegetables. The ratio is off. There is a lot of tofu and bamboo shoots, very little red peppers and eggplant. I think I found maybe three pieces of thai eggplant. However, the curry base itself is one of my favorites in this area. First time trying the basil fried rice here. It was strangly very bland. Strangly because I've had a lot of fried rice and basil fried rice and it didn't taste anything like it. There was no basil flavor at all. I found two pieces of basil in the whole thing. The shrimp were very over cooked and tasted like they had been cooked separately and maybe not to order, which is a shame because shrimp cook so quickly. They also just didn't taste good. I tried to eat the rice as I don't like wasting food, but the dish was very unappealing. Maybe I'lll toss it in a frying pan and add some eggs and other ingredients to it to make it taste better.
Nov 9, 2024: My coworkers and i celebrated a birthday for lunch. The restaurant allowed us to bring party decors and a cake ( cake fee is waived if you order desserts). We ordered all kinds of appetizers and main dishes ( Duck in Basil is the best!) and ALL of them were soooo delicious! Excellent Thai cuisine! Our server Jacob was very entertaining, paid attention to our needs and even took wonderful pictures of our group.
When they brought the cake out, they played the birthday song out loud and the whole staff sang and clapped!! We had a wonderful and special celebration in SaranRom! Highly recommend this hidden gem in Elmhurst.
Best Thai restaurant so far in Queens, foods are superb, the portion are better and reasonable price and good costumer service especially Jacob our server
come for the food, stay for jacob
Jacob da Goat
Jacob, we love you. Thank you for the wonderful service and for the scrumptious dinner ❤️
I had an amazing experience at this place! The food was authentic and flavorful, with the boat noodle and mango salad standing out as favorites. Our waiter, Jacob, was exceptional—attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. His great service made the meal even better. Highly recommend this place, and definitely ask for Jacob!

If u’re looking for something delicious asian foods,I highly recommend this shop, you would see one of the best customer service and high-quality preparation of the plate
𝑱𝒂𝒄𝒐𝒃,thank you so much for your service bro🫡
The food was phenomenal and the best part is the portion is generous! We celebrated our friend’s birthday here and our server Jacob was above and beyond. Definitely made our dining experience even more special. My favorite was the duck curry and the durian sticky rice! In both dishes the flavors were rich without being overly sweet. We will definitely come back often!
Amazing food, amazing service!! Loved every dish - JACOB was the MVP!!
The food is absolutely top notch, the servers are so sweet & kind (also funny!). Shout out to Jacob for being so caring as well whenever my partner and I come to eat here. 11/10 recommend.
Good food yummy
best restaurant
Hidden gem at Elmhurst.. The food never failed, I love moo ping, fried fish with mango salad, and clam basil sauce.. Today i tried the durian sticky rice, and i really like it 😍The service never dissapointed especially Jacob. He always greet us n serve excellently.. Terima Kasih..

Best Thai restaurant in Elmhurst. Everything is very delicious. Must try : Moo ping, fried fish mango sauce , basil clam. Shout out to Jacob, super friendly and attentive .
excellent place to have a dinner time here, really enjoyed all the food. also we got a very friendly server Jacob. JOS GUANDOS mbledar
Everything is good ;) I wish the place is bigger though !
We loved our Sunday night dinner here. Waited about 30 minutes when we arrived at 630 without reservations. Everyone working here is so friendly and helpful. We ordered a total of 6 dishes (2 drinks/ 2 appetizers/2 rice noodle dishes/ 2 entrees=thai iced tea and beer/ catfish mango salad, miang kha na/pad kee mao, crab fried rice/ southern spicy minced pork, crispy fried pork with green bean) and they all came out of the kitchen efficiently.
Our faves were the Michelin recommended catfish mango salad and southern spicy minced pork which lived up to expectations. The miang kha na - the third Michelin recommendation- was great too, but had a very similar flavor profile to the catfish mango salad. If we had to choose- get the catfish mango salad! We recommend the subtly flavored crab fried rice too.
We loved the friendly buzz of the people working here and the service was really top notch.
Other hi lights are the generous portions and fair pricing for a high value meal.
had a great experience eating lunch here on a Friday! the thai iced coffee was sweet but very good. for entrees, we ordered the kee mao thai with pork and the Chinese broccoli with crispy pork---these were both very flavorful and delicious! we also ordered the durian sticky rice, which was served pretty warm and with lots of coconut milk. service was quick and attentive, and the vibe was really nice. we appreciated the lively music and the Halloween decorations especially. would definitely go here again when we're in the area.
Oh my godddd the food is soooo good! The service absolutely incredible. Love yhe atmosphere. Super cute and nice! Also our server Jacob is the bestttt. I cant remember the last time I got such a great server! Jacob gave us the ultimate dining experience!

Amazing Thai food. Lunch Specials are great quantities.
The best in Queens, my favorite Thai food in NYC
I recently dined at Saranrom and had an exceptional experience! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, our server, PK were attentive, ensuring our glasses were never empty .The food was delicious, showcasing the best of thai flavors.
Highly recommend Saranrom for anyone looking for great food and outstanding service!
This is the best restaurant Thai in New York the flavors, atention, the place… amazing I recommend this place 100% to Jacob Io loved everything time
食物很好,停车位还算方便(需要付费)
服务也非常好
Place is bussin everything is good, always packed. Staff is cool. Real cozy tight little spot. Probably not ideal for a big groups
A vivid thai food lover, saranrom thai exceeded my expectations.
Yum Pla Duk Fu Salad-
Crispy fried shredded catfish with breadcrumb served with a spicy and tangy mango salad was absolutely delicious. pad thai was perfectly cooked. Crispy duck basil was “ outrageously delicious.” Great job to “The chef” and the team. You guys are outstanding. Service was impeccable. well done again. Mango sticky rice was the cherry on the cake. See you again ,Bonne nuit !
Food is super delicious, staffs is very good behavior and kind
Amazing experience, our server Minnie was so friendly and attentive, and gave us some amazing recommendations! Thank you Minnie! Because of you we will definitely be back!
This is the best Thai restaurant I've eaten at in New York so far. The restaurant is small but cozy and clean. The prices are very affordable, and the portions are generous. Most importantly, the food is really delicious. I love the pad thai and fried calamari. The service is also excellent. I will definitely go back!
I am not sure who the manager here is but they really need to step up. I like to think I’m pretty fair. But I got seated 15 minutes after my reservation and it took an hour to get my food. Really bad when people who got seated 30 minutes after me got their food before. If I was given a status update or anything I would be fine but literally all I got was a “let me check on your order” 5 minute before i got served. Not worth, the food is mediocre at best. You’d be getting the same quality at Panda Express . Sad food for such frustrating service
Had mango 🥭 sticky rice crab 🦀 fried rice and Thai fried rice with duck 🦆. The crab fried rice was amazing definitely can taste the quality in food and same for the mango sticky rice.🍚
Me and my boyfriend love coming here almost every other week since it’s our favorite Thai spot in NYC. Everytime we come here the food is consistently superb and the staff are all amazing; shout out to Jacob always so extra and accomdating (also one of the reasons we love coming back)!!
spicy southern pork was great (spicy but not too bad), crab fried rice was good. drunken noodles were good but a bit sweet. would have gotten everything medium spicy

food was pretty good. service was great. my only disappointments are the purple lemonade drink, which needs to taste more like lemonade, and there should also be at least 2 meat options for the dumplings
Food is quite good. Definitely Michelin bib worthy. The restaurant is quite small with outdoor seating with standard Thai style decor. Price is pretty good, and they don't get cheap with the portions.
Good service very nice food 🥘
Wow. Wow. Wow. I want to start by saying the service is immaculate. It’s something I haven’t had for a long time and felt wonderful to have amazing customer service. I came here with my girlfriend and I’m so glad I made the right decision. I live in the city and I’ve heard great stuff about this spot. I finally wanted to try it and want to see if it live up to the hype. It did. Boy oh boy I wish it was closer to the city. We had the following dishes. We had the pineapple curry duck, drunken noodles, the wings , and the la ve en rose drink. I was so full that I didn’t eat the drunken noodles as much which is now my lunch for work. I love Thai food and this def hit the spot. Now all the other Thai spots got to live up to this location. I will come again ten times more if I can.
I regret not taking photos in order to describe them more in detail. The food was not good, not at all authentic. I gave 2 stars because it was edible and we didnt get food poisoned, but I would never go back nor recommend to anyone. If the restaurant was good before, currently the restaurant no longer lives up to the prior media attention, nor the multiple years of Michelin mentions. In fact, should probably just ignore “Michelin mentions in general”. This review is purely for the flavor of the food, as we found the portion size was good, and the service was good.
We ordered Beef Nam Tok Salad, Bamboo Shoot Salad, Basil Duck, Drunken Noodles, and Thai Ice Coffee. When we ordered, the waiter explained medium is “Thai Spicy”. We like spicy, but it was a hot day so we decided to only have the Nam Tok Salad be “Thai Spicy”, and everything else mild. That is a move we regret later, because medium is really just medium, not “Thai Spicy”at all. We also felt weird why did the waiter asked for the spicy level of Drunken Noodle, as we never had other more authentic Thai restaurants asked us how spicy we wanted Drunken Noodles.
First we received the coffee, surprisingly it was very watery and very sweet. We decided to overlook it, not knowing that's basically how the food is going to turn out as well --- very mediocre.
The Nam Tok salad was okay when we first started eating, but as the initial excitement passed, we started to realize the salad lacked the refreshing crunch and raw-ness we normally get from other more authentic Thai restaurants like Pure Thai, Ayada, Zaab Zaab, etc. The salad also didn't taste freshly made, in fact the cilantro leaves were already more olive green than fresh grass green.
Bamboo Shoot salad was not a salad, but more like a stirfry, came warm, almost hot. The fermented bamboo flavor was strong, overpowered other ingredients.
Then came the Drunken Noodle, overtly sweet and savory, and the noodles too soft. Over all it resembled more like noodles from other non-authentic “Americanized” (sorry for lack of better description) Thai restaurants.
Lastly the Basil Duck came looking more promising with fried duck pieces over a bed of veggie, dark brown color sauce, and topped with fried basil leaves on the duck... Unfortunately the duck meat was overfried, became dry and fiberous. The veggie was fine, but the dark brown sauce was amazingly nondescript, can't tell what flavor it was... The best way to describe it was an "Asian style savory sauce", like a flavor I can get from dishes out of cheap Chinese takeout places. No basil flavor anywhere despite the dish name, except from the 6 pieces of fried Thai Basil leaves. Honestly it was incredible how this dish can be so flavorless and nondescript.
I hope the restaurant can get back to serving good food as the media had described after seeing this review, but I will never go back again. Eating out is very costly now, if this restaurant didn't give their best and respected our time and money once, we cannot risk it again.
Ordered delivery from this place on a whim. Blown away! So much depth in the flavor. Not just spicy/hot but a flavorful heat. 10/10!
First time trying it out randomly from an online app. Ever since then I am in love. My first fav of Thai food now. My all time fav is their duck with basils. Spicy...yummy...
Small restaurant but very comfy n cozy with a very above average service from their staff.
Disclaimer : the duck basils not on my photos. LOL.
The best Thai I have in NYC!
I could say this is the best Thai Restaurant i’ve ever try in Queens, NY.. to be honest i never know the taste, portion, and price are really reasonable with their service, i’ve been live in here for 2 years and just know this restaurant has a really good taste. Really recommended! Thank you Sa Ran Rom, definitely I’ll be back hehehe
My fiance and I drove over an hour to try this place. Hands down best Thai food we have ever had. Workers were one of the nicest attentive people which was well reflected in their service. You can tell they are truly passionate about their food. Every single dish was amazing and presentation/colors were par to none. Prices are very very very reasonable. Many times we have been disappointed about the hype about a place but this is definitely not one of them. Highly highly highly recommended.
Don’t bother trying to come here same day or calling ahead as they won’t have seating. There are other great Thai restaurants nearby.
The food was excellent! The mango salad was so delicious, even as someone who can’t handle all spicy food, I couldn’t put down the fork for this one. The drinks are also tasty and come in the cutest glasses. A perfect place for a date night, or even solo dining!
The staff is so friendly and super efficient in a fast paced environment. Definitely call ahead to make a reservation, or your wait can be an hr+
Hate the way one server or ower’s son speak and try to scam. He Can't charge me for one Thai iced tea, but charged me for 2 by saying $10 minimum and last the bill came to $8.71 something. The girl server was such a nice girl and was fine to charge for one but the guy kept saying something in their language.
It used to be my and friend’s junction to grab an iced tea but not anymore.
I hope the owner reads this and takes action.
80% is just filled with Ice.
The greatest Thai restaurant in NYC bar none. Insanely good.
Jacob Baby was a considerate, attentive, and hilarious waiter that made my dining experience absolutely extraordinary. Highly recommend!!
Food is delicious, service is friendly and the ambience is chill with a great Playlist
Mimi spoiled us for the evening!
Ordered for takeout: pad see ew, fried crab roll, pad thai with shrimp, and moo ping (skewers). The food was delicious and they give a hearty amount! The moo ping was flavorful and tender, while the pad thai was great as usual with a slight al dente noodle texture as a plus. Pad see ew was also yummy, but the fried crab roll wasn't my favorite (couldn't really taste the flavor, but it had a nice crunch).
I arrived way too early for pickup but one of the staff, Mimi, was super kind and extremely friendly. I was going to opt to wait outside but she insisted I stay inside for the AC as it was too hot outside (94 F!) and even gave me a nice cold glass of water while I waited. I live in the neighborhood so I will definitely be back for more. Unbeatable food and great service!
It could be better if the light in restaurant is brighter but i understand that is a theme. I would go back again!
I went back and had Yen Ta Fo. Didnt really like it that much it could be better, the portion of noodle and vegetables should readjust , i feel like less vegetables would be better. I would go back for sure.
My brother and cousin have been raving about this restaurant, so I decided to check it out. It was definitely busy, with a wait time of 30-45 minutes, but they ended up calling us to come back in 25 minutes.
It’s a very small restaurant, but they really made the space work. Despite its size, it didn't feel cramped inside, and there was enough room to move around. I loved their plates and dishes, which had a very southern feel to them.
We ordered their fried calamari, which was pretty fresh and well-fried. However, the Tom Yum soup was very disappointing. It tasted like they just boiled shrimp and gave us the water as soup. There was no other flavor to it.
Everyone at our table got drunken noodles, but I opted for the green curry. That turned out to be a mistake. It was too watery for me, with just a kick of heat but not much flavor. On the other hand, the drunken noodles were amazing. The noodles were cooked perfectly and had that fantastic wok taste you get when it's done right. It wasn’t oily, and they had a good amount of protein. I would definitely come back for their noodles!
Great food! Especially appreciated Minnie’s service!
Best Thai food we have had in a while. We got pork skewers and catfish, mango salad and fried calamari for appetizers and everything was sooo good. Catfish was the star! Massasam curry, pad krapow and pad ke mao all so good also. Madsasam curry had so much flavor. We will be back. JACOB! Thank you for seating us so late. You were so kind.
So so so good! Absolutely delicious and more authentic tasting. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because sitting inside was so warm, I was sweating. There was no A/C or a fan blowing in our direction.
I have being to many thailand restaurants in New York, so I'm very familiar with the food. This restaurant Saranron Thai has the worst food of them all. The food is terrible all the time. I have been there three times since it is very close to my home. The three times that I have tried different plates there to go, I had terrible experiences with them. Half of the food that I order to go, i had to throw it away since the taste and presentation were the worst that I ever experience. I do not recommend this restaurant at all
Everything was so flavorful! Really loved the drunken noodles! Pauleen was very accommodating
This place is delicious. Its always pack with people. Highly recommend. Our server pauline is very nice and attentive
