Best thai restaurant in New Jersey.

I enjoy Thai food and this place is the closest to me. I feel like it’s hit or miss though.. I’ve had the drunken noodles with shrimp and Pad Thai, Thai ice tea .. first time I had them they were good and the next time they weren’t .. they also ask you your spice level and I say 1 but it always seems to be too spicy so I guess it depends on who’s making the food. I do think they are a tad bit pricey too for the amount of food you get..overall they are ok.

Diner Review №6

best pad Thai in NJ!! Best desserts too!

We ordered no onions, no scallions, no meat, and first, they got appetizers, soup with scallions and onions, we tried explaining the chef who served and the chef said that's the food you ordered.. so we called the lady to explain, showing her it has onions and scallions that they pay more attention to the food as they bring in to not add any onions or scallions and she agreed but didn't do nothing and every single food item was added with loads of onions and scallions..It is best to avoid the place..
They have congested seating a 2-person table with 4 chairs for 4 ppl, so you have no place for food and plates..
Heaters at the location are barely sufficient.. they have put a couple of heaters by the tables but are barely sufficient.. So you have to have your jackets on while you dine..

Diner Review №10

Food Below Average ! Skip this place. People can't speak here properly and neither understand what you say .

Diner Review №11

I had the fish Pla Ginger sauce mild spicy. It's an explosion of flavors. My favorite dish!

Diner Review №12

Diner Review №13

Definitely a hidden gem with fresh ingredients and flavor amongst their appetizers and entrees. One had their chicken sate skewers and chicken and shrimp dumplings which were amazing and came accompanied with some sauces which intensified the flavor. For entrees we had their drunken noodles and Thai fried rice and the portion served was a nice amount of food. I definitely recommend this place and must say our waitress Mia was great and very attentive. Do not hesitate to check this place out.

Diner Review №14

One of the best Thai restaurants in town at the right price point. Their curry fried rice and flat noodles is out of the world.

Diner Review №15

One of my favorite Thai places around! However it’s disappointing how much they raise their prices on Door Dash. Ie, Thai sea rolls are $12 normally, but $16 on Door Dash — a 33% price raise is way too high — Taking one star off for that.

Diner Review №18

This was really expensive for mediocre food. I do not like leaving bad reviews because I feel bad about it, but be aware that it is not worth the money. I checked the menu beforehand to bring a certain amount of cash. What I ordered amounted to 22 dollars according to the menu. When I got there, I had to pay 31 dollars for just two items that you could get for cheaper elsewhere. I’m not good with confrontation so I paid the money, but when I got home, I realized it was not even worth what I paid. I don’t think it’s bad food, but be aware that you’re gonna need to pay more than you think.

Diner Review №19

There are a lot of great Thai places in the area. This is definitely one of the greats!
Staff is super nice ! I will always go there when I’m in the area !

Diner Review №22

I didn't go here for the atmosphere and honestly it's not a very big quality for me. However everything was very neat, clean, and pleasant.

For a place where the staff speak English as a second language they did their best, even above and beyond, to make sure that we had everything we were looking for, that we understood the spice levels, and that we understood the food. Extremely friendly.

I do not know what authentic Thai food is supposed to taste like, I have never been to Thailand. I do know I have had basil fried rice at a number of other Thai places and this place is my favorite by far. I also tried their duck salad and it was phenomenal.

Spice ratings are subjective. I enjoy spicyand I can say that their number three was right underneath my spice level.

Diner Review №23

Had a bad experience ordering over the phone. “Tom Yum soup for 4 people” somehow became only two small containers. When I asked for two more, they were all out. Disappointing first visit.

Diner Review №24

The first time I had their food it was great. I've ordered their mild fried rice & it still had spice to it. Today I ordered mild shrimp & chicken fried rice & was extremely disappointed. The rice really had no flavor as well as no spice at all. None of the shrimp were deveined & had a weird texture to them. The crab ragoons were good and it's why I gave two stars. But I don't think I will be returning after this.

Diner Review №25

First time coming to the restaurant. The food was really good and good portions too. The staff was very nice and the owner personally came by and said hello.

Diner Review №26

I’ve been here a few times for dine in and takeout. Food is super yummy. I really like their papaya salad , fried tofu, and vegetable cashew dish are my favorites. I’m vegetarian and they are very accommodating substituting tofu for the meat.

Pro Tip: Get extra spicy! Gotta have it hot!

Diner Review №27

Very good authentic Thai food and delicious appetizers

Diner Review №28

Food was very delicious

Diner Review №29

My favorite Thai place 🤍

Diner Review №30

Love this place ! Amazing food and service . I love their appetisers and pad Thai and their desserts. Will come back for sure.

Diner Review №31

Love their chicken pad see ew with tofu! Would highly recommend.

Diner Review №32

My family has been eating here for a while, but recently we suffered food poisoning. When I told them about it, they offered to make me more food. I declined and took a refund instead. My wife, children and I will not be eating here anymore.

Diner Review №33

Good food. Great service.

Diner Review №34

Thai Lanna’s food is amazing. Always super fresh ingredients and delicious. It’s the only restaurant I’ll go to for Thai. Staff is super friendly too. I highly recommend it. Pad garlic sauce is my favorite!

Diner Review №35

Wonderful small owned restaurant with great Thai and wonderful service. Went with a larger party so got to try a lot of appetizers. All were delicious and the Gaeng Daeng i order had such a good flavor

Diner Review №36

We never went here for the atmosphere. It’s standard. But the food and service were great when this establishment opened. Just visited this last week and was SO disappointed. SO very disappointed. The service was subpar and inattentive - anything we asked for (extra cutlery, plates, wine glasses) was a chore!! The food is still decent but we found a hair in one of the curries and informed them of it - they accused us of planting it there!! Wow. So long Thai Lana!

Diner Review №37

Good was still ok. But we got hair in one of dish. We mentioned about hair and server accused me that that is my hair and I was not even close to dish. We had server was not speaking English. Place was very good but now I waould not go again.

Diner Review №38

In-dining service ok, but food either bland or too salty. Also, we ordered a couple dishes for take home and one was wrong.

Diner Review №39

Nasty food and nasty customer service. There was no seasoning in our noodles and there were egg shells in both orders. When we tried to let them know, management started being so rude and aggressive through TEXT. Ignored us for over a day and then refused to refund unless we came back to the store. Eventually got the refund but I will never buy from here or dine here again. You can get better Thai food literally anywhere else.

Diner Review №40

Order two Thai iced teas, plain rice and 2 drunken noodles. The noodles had egg shells and the food did not taste good. When I reached out to the restaurant they said they were busy and would call back and never did. Then I called back the next day and said I had waited too long and that they would only give me a cash refund for one of the dishes and that I would have drive back to the restaurant to get only a cash refund. The entire experience was awful start to finish.

Diner Review №41

BAD FOOD - HORRIBLE SERVICE. We have been going to this place for more than 5+ years now. Their food quality and service have gone from great to horrible. A few days back we went with friends and family and ordered all food to be Medium spicy. The waitress forgot to mention to the cook that we wanted medium spicy and the food come as complete BLAND. We informed them waitress politely and asked it to be redone and we were OK to wait. Although she did get it redone, but in her vengeance she purposefully got it done a extra extra spicy. As mentioned we have been going there for 5+ years, so we very well understand the food spice levels.

All groups in our company place takeout orders from them on a regular basis. Today, after placing a takeout order, we called in 2 minutes to cancel the desert item. They tried to act smart by saying they already made the desert (in 2 minutes). They only cancelled the desert item when we threatened to cancel the complete order. However, upon pickup of the items ordered, they have intentionally messed up the order and provided incorrect item that we did not order and did not want.

Their phone service SUCKS, you cannot hear them half the time and the remaining half time they cannot understand what you are saying.

WARNING - this is a vengeful business - if they do not like you, they will take it out in ways you cannot imagine.

Diner Review №42

Bit on the saltier side for some dishes, but overall pretty solid thai option in the area.

Diner Review №43

I love this place. I have been going here for a while and I fully support the owner. She’s a wonderful lady! Please check this place out!

I got the mushroom soup and pad Thai. The food was adequate but I wish the noodles were more spicy like it said on the menu. I’m a big fan of mushrooms so I liked the soup but maybe there could have been more mushrooms.

Diner Review №55

First time ordering from here and Thai food at all . I must say I did not enjoy it . The combination rice was very good but the red snapper was hard and over fried . Definitely wasn’t satisfied with the fish ! Honestly not sure if I will be ordering again .

Food is great. Staff is very rude. Outdated systems that can be replaced easily such as broken payment mode, menu cards. We were asked to accommodate on a table of 4 for 5 people.didn’t serve chopsticks even when specifically asked for

Great food quick service

Diner Review №60

This’s my first visit to this place and was there for lunch. Tried their famous Basil and Thai fried rice with chicken and veggies and I just loved em. Veg dumplings were bit bland, Chicken sate and fried wings was good. Would definitely visit this place again for their fried rice. A very well maintained Dine inn, so clean and pleasant environment. Service was good. Below are some of my captures from this place ……

I don't know about this place but then I'm going to take out menu it's only dine in I'd be I'm guessing I asked the guy he don't understand nothing and I work across the street and I told him that he's like yeah so obviously he doesn't understand much I like Thai food a lot but yeah you don't have a takeout menu and this and that but just be aware

Diner Review №75

Great food selections... Delicious!

Diner Review №76

I am heartbroken because Thai Lanna used to be my favorite for authentic Thai food in the area! This time the salmon was dry, overcooked and sweet with no other flavor profile. The fried rice was saltless and flavorless. The sticky rice with mango had no coconut sauce and rice wasn’t even sticky rice…it was just over cooked! Never ordering from here again!

Diner Review №77

Diner Review №78

I've had delivery several times, but today was my first time at the restaurant.

Diner Review №79

Roach in noodles. Buyer beware

Diner Review №80

Great massaman curry, terrific service. Genuine Thai food

Diner Review №81

Diner Review №82

Fantastic food. Offers various degrees of spicieness for entrees. Comparable prices. Good portion sizes. Friendly staff. Nice decor and cleanliness.

Diner Review №83

I love that they give you plenty of rice they weren't stingy like most restaurants. The cashier was very nice and she deserves 5🌟. The food had a lot of flavor but one of the Bamboo Shoots wasn't cooked enough. It was kinda tough and stringy when I was chewing it. I asked for the food to be spicy but it wasn't spicy enough, and I wish they had tofu as a protein option. All in all they had pretty good food.

Diner Review №84

Diner Review №85

Curry and drunken noodles were great! Spice level 3 is perfect, if you can handle spicy food

Diner Review №86

This is my 2nd and last time visiting.. I ordered this time online to pick up. The women at the register never looked up to greet me. Instead, I gave my name to someone exiting the kitchen…Very Rude!
The Thai Basil fried rice was not good. However; the fried chicken was great

Diner Review №87

Great food good price

Diner Review №88

The best Thai Place! Their red curry is our standard and their curry fried rice is amazing!

Diner Review №89

We ordered panang Thai curry and massaman Thai curry. They don't have lunch specials on weekends. We asked for spice level 2 out of 4, but even 2 was very hot for us.

Diner Review №90

The best Thai place I have ever been to. Anything you try turns out to be good. My favourite is drunken noodles.

Diner Review №91

Diner Review №92

I thought the Thai Iced Tea was a little overpriced until I got to taste it and I’d say it’s worth every penny!

Diner Review №93

Diner Review №94

I love this place. I've taken so many friends. Beautiful decorations, fantastic food, great several. Absolute 10/10

Diner Review №96

Diner Review №97

We were delighted with the authentic Thai cuisine, excellent service and great ambience.

Diner Review №98

The staff is very accommodating, and the food is excellent. Some of the best Thai cuisine I have had outside of Thailand!

Diner Review №99

I ordered food through DoorDash and I had clearly told them no fish or oyster sauce in anything but the soup was full of that I had to throw it out. Very disappointed with the my instructions not taken well

Diner Review №100

I was part of a 6-person party on a Tuesday evening. After figuring out the menu (you can order to your preferred level of spiciness!), we shared a few appetizers and each expressed how delicious our meal choice was. We shared wine we'd brought (it's BYOB) and only one of us ordered a dessert because we were so full. 😋 We look forward to going again! Other parties came & went, some seemed to be "regulars." And many carry-out meals were retrieved throughout the evening.

Diner Review №101

Food is fresh and delicious

Diner Review №102

We have been ordering Thai Lanna for years. Recently, the last few times including last night ( 5/21), we have noticed the food has been very bland. Ordered spicy pad kee mao and spicy tom yum soup - both of them bland and NOT spicy at all. In the past , Medium would be sufficient with a nice kick but recently not even spicy (level3). Also don't know if they are not using salt in the pad kee mao anymore. Very disappointed as we have always leaned on Thai Lanna for consistency and also recommend all our family and friends to go here. Not anymore until anything changes.

Diner Review №103

Diner Review №104

Worst experience ever, put in a pick up order after my grad for my family and I can eat, the drunken noodles and the basil fried rice were flavorless without any spice or salt. I called them and asked them if they could do anything for me today and the manger named Nori said I can come back tomorrow WITH THE FOOD to a new order because they are busy today. How unfair is that. I live 45 min away and asked if she could do anything today and she said not today and to bring the food back. Worst experience ever during my graduation. However I have to give them credit for their red curry which was really good. But the manager was rude and yelling through the phone.

Diner Review №105

The food is great and authentic, the same as when eaten in Thailand.

Diner Review №106

You can't beat the lunch special here! Best tom yum ever!

Diner Review №107

Food was great!

Diner Review №108

Been going here for years. Never had a complaint. Excellent noodle dishes.

Diner Review №109

Food is good and authentic.

Diner Review №110

Very disappointed. An $80 take out bought me and hubby the worse papaya salad (mostly lettuce), sober and bland drunken noodles, terrible tasting pad tai and greasy, salty fried calamari. I used to like this place but I won't be going back for this pricey, tasteless food. Save your money and eat at home.

Diner Review №111

Was visiting family and we went here for dinner. I’ve been trying to find something that matches their jumbo shrimp garlic with no luck at all. The portions are huge and extremely flavourful. The setting is calm and the service is fast and friendly. I wish I could have all of their recipes!

Diner Review №112

Pad ki mao. Spice level 2 and get the chili powder on the side for extra spice. The absolute best!

Diner Review №113

Authentic Thai food, good for a week day lunch hang outs, not many menu items, so if you want a leisure full service and a full meal experience this is not it.

Diner Review №114

Finally, found an amazing Thai restaurant. The service was super fast. We had the curry fried rice and green curry which was the best I ever had. Definitely gonna visit again .

One of the best Thai food I've had. Ordered the GANG DANG (RED CURRY) with chicken and it was out of this world.
We walked in near closing time and the staff was gracious and served us ... very friendly and welcoming place.

Diner Review №120

Not a great experience. I ordered the coconut based soup and the chicken was not fresh. It was rubbery. When we got our bill, they automatically tacked in the 15% gratuity. I didn’t the that was appropriate. They said we had a party of 5. However, I had my 2 grandkids, 3 and 5 with us. I don’t know if this is a grey area but I told the manager by tacking on that automatically could be illegal but more so , what if I wanted to tip more?? They offered to give it back to me, but it’s not the money, but the principle of the matter.
They also need to post a sign that for certain number in a party the tip will be added to the bill.
Food in general was not that great. If you plan to eat here, look for another Thai restaurant.

Diner Review №121

Ordered via door dash and found a rusted pin in the food.

Diner Review №122

Spicy food doesn’t mean you are entering competition in order to win world cup .
Ordered chicken noodle spicy dish
I threw three dishes away $60 worth because all I could taste is a spicy pepper that was burning everybody’s lips tasteless disgusting
Never again!!!

Diner Review №123

Got the lunch special pad Thai. It was tasty. Would recommend the place. Nice employees.

I used to love this place. I do not know what happened.

Diner Review №131

We normally visit this restaurant several times a month. However on our last visit Friday January 6 we went there for lunch and had a pretty bad experience. The main cause of this review was there was a cockroach that ran across our table, and one crawling on the wall next to our table. When I made our waitress aware she seemed to not even acknowledge the roaches and indicated that they had called the exterminator. She did nothing to apprehend the bugs, so I had to get up knock it off the wall and kill it, the one that ran across the table got away somehow and hopefully did not end up in the food. This is probably is our last visit here even though we did visit regularly, because any time there is a bug encounter it usually means there is a bigger problem behind the scenes.

Diner Review №142

Som tum we ordered was the only dish that was good. Phatai tasted too original (sour and salty) and thin noodle was overcooked and all broken. The green curry tasted somewhat atrificial and the shrimp came with didn't feel like it was fresh.
The bigger issue was on the receipt.
The menu noted the green curry with shrimp was $18 but when I checked the receipt, it said $16 for green curry and +$3 for shrimp which is $19 in total.
When I asked why they charged me a dollar more, the server conviniently said "oh, we increased our price $1 each as the price for everything gone up."
Nobody explained to us that the price noted in the menu was outdated and the correct price was $1 more then what we saw when we ordered the dishes.
Also adding "this is all computer generated and there's nothing we can do about it."
No "sorry" no nothing but just a slam on the face saying you need to pay more then what is noted in the menu. $1 is not much, but the way they just sneak in additional charge without explaining and when asked, just saying it is what it is is not really an attitude you want from a restaurant. For whooping $1 with an attitude, they lost their future customer!

Diner Review №143

Every time we come here, it never fails to disappoint!! my favorite restaurant ever :) my fam and I come here anytime we crave spicy thai food, and each time we love it. We always have staples that we get from here, like their fried rice and curries, but their stir fried dishes are simply amazing <3 and their Thai iced tea is out of this world, we get it every time we come here. thank you for making such amazing food !! truly it’s so good :))

Diner Review №144

High quality Thai food in a pleasant atmosphere for an affordable price. Great place for a date night! Ordered the red curry, chicken sate, kee mow seafood, and mango sticky rice. The red curry was definitely a standout dish, so flavourful!!!! I highly recommend Thai Lanna 💖

Diner Review №153

Nice decor and good food. We ordered iced tea, veg drunken noodles and veg pad thai. Pad thai was extra spicy for medium level. Maybe its taste of pad thai.

Diner Review №154

Great Thai food

Diner Review №155

Spring rolls were crispy and had great flavor with the sauce. Drunken noodles, however, are very inconsistent. The first time, level 3 was way too spicy to eat but had great flavor and good amount of sauce, the 2nd and 3rd time today, they were pale, bland, and lacked sauce. Very disappointed and not worth the $15 at all.

Diner Review №156

Their standard has gone down. Ordered Red Snapper. Tasted stale and no flavor. Drunken noodles with vegetables bland. Only papaya salad was so so . A real turn off. When they started it was good

If they can't fulfill why they take order at 10:30am and cancel themselves 12:30pm.

Diner Review №171

Thai Lanna is my go-to Thai spot. I’ve been fortunate enough to cover dine in, outside seating, and take-out.

I judge Thai places by their tofu red curry and tofu pad thai. A good red curry, to me, has crisp veggies and chewy cubes tofu in a thick coconut broth that is spiced evenly throughout. For my pad thai, I like having an 80/20 noodle to bean sprout ratio (I know, it’s obnoxious), fresh lime, and peanuts.

Thai Lanna does this impeccably. Every dish is flavorful, artfully presented, and well portioned. I’ve never been disappointed, and have brought tons of friends and family here. I really recommend doing this family style so everyone can try a little bit of everything.

The one thing to remember is that their spice level is on a scale from 1-4. I made the mistake of ordering my meal at a level 3 once, and it was the most deliciously painful thing I’ve ever done.

Diner Review №172

Drunken noodles and red curry were amazing. I was impressed by taste, quality and quantity. Ordered spice level 3 and it was spicy as expected (loaded with Thai red chillies pieces).

Diner Review №173

Holiday weekend. Poor quality of food at dinner price. No fish sauce or basil on one of my fav dish at this place. Disappointed.

Diner Review №174

Thai Lana is an absolute gem located in Somerset, NJ. I was really impressed by the quality of dishes. Most dishes offer four levels of spicy, with Thai Spicy being the hottest. Depending on your tolerance level the max is legit with really good level of heat. I was pleasantly surprised to see the flavors, texture and quality of each dish standout. Each dish was unique and was expertly crafted. The green curry at Thai Lana is one of the best I have had in NJ. If you are in the area and are craving Thai, this place is a worthy choice.

Diner Review №175

Great taste of food. Good customer service too.

Diner Review №176

Diner Review №177

The drunken noodles was great, chicken satay salty and red snapper lacked gravy. The service was very disappointing, waited half an hour between apps and entree. Saw our order to another table who came after us. Won’t come here again.

Diner Review №178

best thai food i ever tasted, smooth, fresh. i order Thai tea which is amazing there calamari, please get yourself an order you wont regret it. i order the curry coconut chicken all i can say is WOW. Staff is also sweet and professional. i have gone so far four times.

Diner Review №179

Maybe it’s just me, but food was not fresh. The Tom Yum soup that comes with the lunch special is not good in my opinion, but the soup is not my cup of tea to begin with so my opinion may be jaded — very sour, but I have a feeling it is supposed to be that way. I ordered extra spicy on everything and just half of my order was spicy. But portion size is generous. Everything overall just seemed like it was made beforehand awhile go.. or frozen and then re-served. Disappointing because prior reviews made me want to try and like this place.

Diner Review №180

Diner Review №181

Enjoyed our dinner out. The waitstaff was prompt, attentive and polite without being “too much”. The setting was pleasant and upbeat. Diner Review №186

Food is genuinely spicy, maybe some of the only genuinely spicy food in NB. I've ordered from several places in the area while living here and have been disappointed time and time again by what many restaurants consider their highest spice level. This restaurant's highest spice level meets the mark. Eat here if you love spicy food. I recommend the Pad Kee Moaw.

First time here. Server was very nice and kind, quickly arranged table for 5 on a Friday night. Loved the food, so worth to wait. Great taste, nice presentation.

Ordered food online and I went there to pick up. waited for an hour and it still wasn’t done. The woman behind the counter kept saying 2 minutes. She never said why the food wasn’t done.. This is unacceptable. Customer service stinks!
