Low-key eatery serving traditional Thai fare, including curries & noodle dishes in snug confines.
I ordered Pad See Ew, but what I received was far from it. This is not flat noodles, and it was missing the essential flavors and ingredients that make Pad See Ew so delicious. It was disappointing, especially since I was looking forward to an authentic experience. I hope the restaurant can improve on quality and consistency for future orders. :(
This place is very close to my school so I go here often to have lunch with my friends. It's a small place but the food is always warm and pleasant! I'm always hungry so I don't take pictures most of the time :D But this time I made sure I did. We ordered Tom Yum Fried Rice and Thai Suki Yaki (Thai style glass noodles with chicken, shrimp and egg). The soup was soo flavorful and all the things in it went so well with the soup! The rice was a mixture of tangy, sweet and spicy. I've also had a lot of other things on the menu and they're all pretty good.
This is a good lunch spot in Center Newark area. Their dishes are pretty tasty, at least the thai basil sauce that I tried. It was a really good mix of vegetables, peppers, chicken and basil sauce, a good portion of rice with it too.
The chicken wings looked tasty too, though I didn’t get to try it. I tried Pad thai, was little disappointed. Not the type of taste I expect from pad thai.
The restaurant has sitting spots upstairs, but its not in the best shape. Better if you do just do take out. But they are really kind to bring your order upstairs, if you dine in.
Service was amazing, the lady was incredibly kind and friendly. I ordered the pineapple fried rice which was delicious to the max. I was expecting it to be served inside a pineapple but they surprised me with a heart shaped design instead. Fried tofu was a bit bland but i understand why they added a sauce on the side. Thai ice tea was really good too. Definitely recommend this nice littlr whole in a wall restaurant.
I ordered food from here today and it was the worse Pad Thai I’ve ever had. The taste was awful! The spring rolls were oily and burned. This has been the worse experience ever.
Disappointing food. Tofu in Pad Thai was hard and chewy. The chicken wings were tasteless. The drunken noodles were alright.

This place was a mess. Ordered from Grubhub for pickup after 30 minutes my order was not prepared and I had to wait an additional 30 minutes. Place order in person or not at all, is my recommendation.

Chicken fried rice is top tier. Not too expensive and very spicy
Love this Thai restaurant in Newark
It used to be a good place for takeout Thai with some decent dishes. The hygiene and quality seems questionable after I found a large piece of plastic wrapper in my noodle soup for a delivery order.
They won’t answer the phone and Uber eats doesn’t help properly. The restaurant needs to be reported for food safety standards.
This place has roaches galore. The people who own the place are amazing but they have ROACHES!!! The upstairs and downstairs of the restaurant could be taken care of better. It was not to cleanly. I didn’t get to eat there because of the cleanliness issue I had to leave my order where it was.
Got takeout. Food was unnecessarily greasy and just not that good. Not bad but not good either.
They add too much water on curry, then it becomes like soup. Before it used to be normal curry. I don’t think I will come here again.
great thai iced tea
Absolutely loved to come here when I went to Rutgers Newark. I used to study with my friend upstairs during lunch and the staff was very friendly. I loved their pad thai. Will definitely come back again when I’m in the area.
Don’t go there wasting your money the food have no taste. I think they need a chef.
Food was awful! Environment a bit dirty.
I love the papaya salad. 1 serving is good for 2.
Amazing experience, food was phenomenal and service was just as good (if not better!) - cant recommend 9thai enough!
Hands down the best Thia restaurant in Newark. Their green curry is out of this world.

Basically threw out my entire Crab fried rice smh, thought I would give this place a chance again and they disappointed me smh
Had the Chicken Thai Fried Rice from this place, and it was great! Would definitely order again from here.
the food looked good until i found hair in it. these guys are nice but they gotta be careful.

I ordered through uber eats. I got their fried rice, pad thai and calamari. The food was atrocious, no thought or flavor in it. Very disappointed..I will not be a returning customer
Amazing service amazing food. We walked to this restaurant for lunch and they made it a bit more meaningful. Heart shaped fried rice. If you have the ability to go in and eat, GO. They are friendly, food is delicious. I tipped well and what I got in return was great service. We will be back. My wife will also go with her friends.
Best green curry flavor around
This used to be my go to spot. I placed an online order for 2 items. The restaurant called and told me they didn't have an item I ordered. I said ok please just send the item they had. She said she would remember me and she will give me a credit. Due to the fact that I don't order out often I would like a refund and she ok. It's been over a week and still no refund! I have called twice and nothing and to top it off the food was extremely salty so I couldn't eat it.
I've never had a sit down meal here but I like to order takeout. Since I work about 10 minutes away, I call before I leave and by the time I walk down, the food is ready. I love Thai food and they don't disappoint. I also have wheat allergies so having gluten free options really help. I haven't had any cross contamination while coming here.
Staffs are super friendly!
Best pad thai in Newark, no doubt.
This was my "go to" spot during the pandemic. They were clean, safe, masked up, very friendly, and the food was sooooooo good. It is still my go to spot for Thai food in NJ. Friendly staff. Food is cooked fast and safely too. My favorite dish is Pad Thai with chicken. Their fried dumplings are really good. I usually order them fried hard because I like mine extra crispy. After writting this review, I'm hungry again. Lol
Always consistent in hot and tasty entrees, soups and appetizers! Very sweet staff my favorite place to go for a quick lunch and dinner!
My soup have a roach in it, LITERALLY!!
Ordered delivery from this restaurant because I had a craving for Thai. Upon opening our bag, I noticed the containers were not filled. If the bag wasn't stapled, I might've thought someone ate the food along the delivery route. The taste of the food was good, but we wished they were more generous with the portions. Disappointed.
Great food! I love the roti, too, but I just wish it came with more.
I love food from 9Thai so much. Specialty Thai Ice tea. It’s so good.
It was my first time trying Thai food, food was good, not to mention the customer service they are so calm and friendly, definitely going back .
Love this plac. Amazing food and nice crew. Definitely will com back again.
Very good place
Food is subpar. My drunken noodles were bland.
This hands down one of my favorite places in Newark! I love have close it is to Rutgers and the food is AMAZING and well priced too. It was my first time here I'm definitely coming back! The everyone here was soo friendly and welcoming it was such a nice experience I loved it you get a family vibe from the minute you walk through the door. It was overall such a nice experience ❤
The best Thai food in town!
Today made my 2nd time ordering from here. This time in person. Food is authentic and tasty!
Was on vacation and stopped in for lunch , they had nothing on the menu .
New to the area, I’d say I’m a low key foodie, eaten at a number of 2-3 star Michelin restaurants around the world (I think in my head I know what good food is). Stumbled across this place going for a beer across the street. Thai food sounded good and I only live walking distance (5 mins) away.
The lady is super nice inside: she introduced me to her husband and I think her kid watching something on an iPad at one of the few tables inside. Super authentic, lovely people clearly. Would go back and chat more next time, gives you that “family vibe” given the spot is so small (maybe 6-8 tables inside… maybe less).
Food was very decent: played it safe on ordering, but based on their quality and flavor I’m definitely going to try some of their higher end specials. Bet they are amazing.
Id go back and eat alone in person, I’d take a date there for a cute intimate dinner, I’d order take out from there.
Hope this helps!
As a Dasher, I can truly say about this is, the lady behind the counter, was very generous in giving me a bottle of water. God bless her and her business. Thank you for the water
I went here a few days ago and I was just so pleased with the food and customer service. Great family environment the owners were amazing. CLEAN and again the food was perfect, everything was fresh and well prepared.
The food is delicious and the people are so nice. I got the shrimp pad thai and it was amazing! Can't wait to come back, next time for dine in hopefully. 😊
Great food. They are the nicest, smiliest, politest people. Love getting their deliveries.
Food was amazing, great service, very very kind and welcoming. Would recommend, definitely coming back :)
6-7 minutes drive from Harrison or Kearny depending on time of day or route taken.. Food is delicious and fresh with quality ingredients.. 9 Thai is located in the Downtown area of Newark which is safe.
Definately will order again and dine out there !!
Quality Asian Cuisine. That Crab Fried Rice is very good.
Delicious Thai food. Very fast service.
Love love love. So quick and responsive. Foods are tasty I like the mango salad and the steamed dumplings so much.
Spring roll was great but the other noodles an chicken cutlet I don't know how is teste so cant say
Ordered dinner here today and the staff was very friendly and made sure they got my information and order correct. The food was authentic and not greasy. I really appreciate the hole that was cut into the container of the spring rolls so it wouldn’t get soggy.
Worst panang curry I’ve ever had. Don’t waste ur $.
Good food, particularly the noodles (pad see ew, pad kee Mao) they definitely don't let you down when it comes to spice. The Thai tea is refreshing
Damn good thai
Amazing service! Great food
Super delish dive to be found on a quaint block in the arts district of Newark. The #Chiffani team frequents this place often. A variety of dishes for pescatarian and vegetarian customers too! We love the friendly service from this family run restaurant!
Our faves:
Pad See Ew w/shrimp
Sticky coconut rice
Salmon Mango!
The food is excellent!!! The staff is very friendly!
Delish
Just splendid. Absolutely fantastic. The folks who run the joint are the sweetest people ever and the food is better than many nyc spots. It also means a lot that they know me by now after having ordered so many times.

I don’t normally leave descriptive reviews passed just “stars” because I’m a fairly lazy person when it comes to that. However, I felt the need to express how Wonderful my experience was with this restaurant. I ordered the vegan Rama and Lychee tea through Uber East.
The vegan Rama was so tasteful. It’s incredibly difficult to Find vegan food around here (and most places outside of large cities like NYC) that actually has a lot of flavor and texture. This meal was perfect. From the portion size, to the packaging and the overall taste. Even the white rice was delicious. I hope this helps any vegans out there who are looking for a meal to splurge on but actually feel satisfied/content after.
Also, I’m not sure if the mango sticky rice is vegan but my friend tried it and it was delicious for her too. Normally they are vegan because it is usually made with coconut milk but I would check with the restaurant first since some places use glutinous rice. Lastly, the lychee tea was not too sweet (though sweet nonetheless) and came with the perfect temperature.
Definitely try this place out!
great food! their noodle soup (Guay Tiew Nam Tok and Guay Tiew Tom Yum) is very good.
I ordered food a delivery from door dash. Pad Thai was mediocre. No peanuts and no sauce on the pad thai. Papaya salad was spicy after I asked it not to be. Will never order from them again.
Okay. Food was so so. Very cheap. Friend realized that one dish and coke is same price as two dishes and coke so mind as well go with the two dishes if you get a water or soda. Pretty dirty inside. Not sure if there are other Thai places in downtown Newark but definitely other options.
Affordable and great tasting food 🍲.
One of the best Thai food places in the area. I always get the Pad Thai extra spicy. Let me tell you, they do not skip on the spice. You ask and they deliver. The Pad See Ew is also impeccable. This is one place you can't go wrong. Would definitely recommend. Cannot get enough!
Found hair in my food. I was disappointed since they have good food.
9 Thai Cuisine seems to be the only Thai restaurant in the city of Newark. It is very authentic which makes this place even better. Their authentic dishes are lined up in trays as the meal of the day where you pick and choose which dish catches your eye. They also have large rice steamers with white and brown rice options. I haven't stopped in here in a couple of years, and since I was craving thai, I stopped in. Today, they had options of tofu Thai basil, ground chicken Thai basil, Udon noodles, fried rice, and a couple other options. I noticed there was a minimum purchase of $15 so I ordered the combo which consists of three sides. I then ordered the Udon noodles, ground chicken basil, and brown rice. Since that still didn't add up to $15 I grabbed a drink and added two spring rolls. They then charge a $1 processing fee for whatever reason so I paid a lot more than I expected to all because I didn't have cash on me. Next time I am in the mood for Thai I'll make sure I have cash on me. There is typically a long line, but today there was only two other people in front of me which wasn't bad. I was in and out. Overall, the food is very tasty and they serve large portions.
Ordered the pad thai with shrimp , spicy. It was amazing .
This place is structured more for take out/lunch due to the location in Downtown Newark (which is why I gave a 4 not a 3). Food was good enough considering things are prepared in bulk in almost buffet style. But if you want some Thai and have a short lunch break this place works. However NOT a place to bring someone who has not had Thai food before or to try it yourself for the first time!
Interesting... Good food
Everything is below average
Food is good
Dumplings were amazing & pinapple fried rice
Favorite local Thai place. They haven't disappointed me yet.
This place charged me extra $1 for a “credit card fee” without even telling me. At least have the decency to tell the customer that there’s a fee if you Pay with credit card for transactions less than $15. I would’ve easily went to the ATM next door and gotten cash. The woman with such broken English taking the order needs to communicate such things and not laugh it off and say “haha oh sorry - next time”. Clearly there won’t be a next time. Sorry.
Love the buffet at this place.
The food was ok but over priced for the amount of food you receive. Service was quick and friendly.
Very good
Great Curry!
Best mango sticky rice I've ever had!!!! wow
Tasty tasty tasty (Did I say tasty???) and very inexpensive Thai food. The place is a hole in the wall but it's clean and quiet, and the service is friendly. Get to it before or after the college crowd. You won't be disappointed.
Food is delicious! They have a lot of vegan/vegetarian options!
Wow amazing authentic Thai food
Authentic. Place could use a deep clean
Food really good!!!
Great pad Thai and sticky rice. Would come back again.
Great food. Loved the pineapple fried rice with chicken and and spices. Affordable too.
You really can't go wrong here, excellent food. That being said, the tropical curry duck is amazing.
Giving one start because I can't give zero. I went to pick lunch and my food was terrible. The chicken was hard and dry, the noodles were burnt, and the lid was not sealed so the hot broth spilled on my hand. I called to address the issued and they told me, "no one ever complains" instead of trying to rectify the situation. Will not be ordering from them again.
If I could give this place a ZERO i would! Ordered the Pad see U via doordash and it was HORRIBLE! The noodles were like MUSH EXTREMELY SOGGY! Just flat out disgusting! Never again! I should have know. Something was up when I couldn’t find a yelp page for this place! Yelp holds all the REAL reviews. Save your money and go elsewhere! Wish I could attach photos!
Great home-made feel food, unassuming no-frills place with very good service. Prices ok, good range of options. Thoroughly recommended.
Excellent, great authentic taste.
Nothing here is made to order, but don't let that stop you. This is some of my favorite Thai food! The red curry is one of my favorite finds while at school at NJIT. Plus everything is so affordable!
This is a reasonably good thai food. It's not gourmet, but it's fresh and really the dishes taste better than what they look. There is almost always a line to the street and most of the food is gone by 1pm. The cheapest options are either the green or red curry, spicy, with rice. They also have other options, including noodles and a couple of vegetarian ones. Selection changes day to day. There is also an option for soup.
Great food in basic looking place
This used to be the best Thai food I've ever had. New management means the prices doubled & the quality of the food has considerably declined. It's a shame.
Good lunch time specials. I recommend delivery over sit in during dinner hours, as service can be a little slow. The food is good, my usual is the pad Thai and the Choo chee curry. The menu details the spicy level of some dishes, but I found that something rated as 2 out of 3 on their spicy scale barely had a kick at all.
Eat lunch here twice a week. Great food and friendly service.
Good Thai food.
Great vegan options
Average or below. Chicken pad thai was lacking flavor and noodles sticky.
One if the best Thai in town. I go for lunch quite often here. I am a vegetarian and find the Tofu curry very delicious. I wish they had more Veg options. They have 5+ options for non-veg though. Must try.
Cheap place but not so bad.
Food was delicious!
Found this place using the BeyondMenu app. Great food, I like the location, and friendly staff.
I've been here twice now, once on a weekday afternoon and once at night. Both times, you walk in and the entire place just feels so calm. It's the kind of place where you'd enjoy a quiet lunch alone.
Great food. Not so great ambiance. But that won't deter you from eating or from keeping the line going out the door.
The setup of this place is similar to that of the Chinese food places you see in a mall food court. There are several selections behind the glass and you pick 1-3 choices depending on how much food you want. Definitely not as fresh as going to a restaurant where they prepare the food after you order it, but it's decent and the price is pretty good too.
