Small restaurant with simple decor offering familiar Thai cuisine such as soups & curry dishes.
It was a rare day off on Tuesday, so my family and I went to this Thai restaurant in the north of Bloomfield for a meal. I have to say that the food was very delicious, the owner was very friendly, and the whole dining process was very pleasant. The same beef noodles and duck rice, the Thai style is completely different from the Chinese style I usually eat, but both are delicious. If I have the chance, I will come again.
Was in the mood for Thai food and ordered the lunch special of the chili rice and shrimp L6. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and was greeted. The food was ready and I paid. When I dug in, the food was delicious! I just wish they put more shrimp in the dish.
We had take out today and the food was really good. We will be ordering again! We had Spring rolls, dumplings, chicken on a stick, Thai Iced tea, Pad see ew, chicken & veg with garlic sauce, beef & veg with garlic sauce, Thai fried rice with pork, and an amazing soup!
The best Thai food restaurant in the whole area, not for its tasty food; and it really doesnt matter what you order ist all excellent made. Very tasty and considerate of dietary restrictions or allergys. Ive been to almost all Thai restaurant on the local area THIS IS THE BEST THAIT FOOD IN TOWN. I always get excellent porportions of food. Food , service and professionalism is excellent, ( would make Tony JAA jump up and kick the ceiling fan ) Treat your yourself to the best !!!!!!!!!!!
My family and I have been going here for years. At this point, it feels like we're almost family. The owner, Noone, and his wife are incredible and extremely hospitable people. They really go above and beyond to understand your preferences and your palate, and try to find ways to accommodate everyone. I will vouch for this place any day of the week, and double time on Sundays. When you go, just let them know that Tim or I sent you. They have five to six different ways of preparing duck that will blow your mind. And they're really amazing and they excel at Northern Thai cuisine and really make you feel and understand a bit of the culture. Enjoy!
PORTION SIZES:
I normally dont write reviews, but upon experience I felt it was important to mention this. As someone who has tried a lot of different Asian cuisine and has traveled to dozens of Asian countries including Thailand. This restaurant for some reason has very small portion sizes. Perhaps this is by design and if so then market it as such as higher end cuisine.
I ordered a variety of foods including rice, soup and spring rolls. The rice was less. The spring rolls were the smallest I've ever seen, I'd consider them "mini eggrolls" rather than any thing of sustenance.
And then there was the soup. About enough to fill a petri dish, I was appalled at how small it was. I ordered the same food at other Thai restaurants and I got full portions. Full size spring rolls the size of a taco. Enough rice to make you full. And soups that actually filled the bowl. I mean I am no chef, but I mean who in the world actually skimps on soup? All you have to do is add water to make it larger. No one cooks soup in tiny little pots and then hands it out as such. So yes I was severely disappointed that a restaurant would do this and at least not advertise it as such.
This restaurant will work for some people, ones with small appetites and palates, and more about texture and feel. However for those of us who are simply trying to get a decent meal during our lunch break, you will be left hungry. If you dont believe me try it yourself, order food here and also the same dish at other Thai restaurants. Heck order a similar dish at Vietnamese, Korean, Chinese etc restaurants and compare. Those places will not give you mini eggrolls, a few mini teaspoons of flavored water as soup, and a small percentage of the rice you are supposed to get.
So yes I was disappointed. But hey if more reviews are written or if this is mentioned to the chefs there then perhaps they will understand that we understand the price of food and raw materials is going up. But to skimp badly on portions and then still keep prices higher than other restaurants is unacceptable. I hope they do better as the flavor of the food was good.
But what does it tell you when a hungry customer has to go grab a big burger happy meal immediately after eating a full course thai meal at this restaurant so they may satiate their hunger?
This place is so good! I usually do take out and get one of the noodle bowls, which you can customize with your choice of noodle, protein, and broth, and it is always delicious. Today, I got the Pad Thai, and it was amazing!
I will be going back very soon with friends , to eat at the restaurant.
This place is a good Thai food place we enjoy it and we love the flavors and selections and have enjoyed food. It is fresh and hot. What keeps us from giving it five stars is the slightly higher prices for receiving rather small portions. this is pretty par with other ones, however some have grown to maybe add one or two more dollars and make bigger dishes and portions.

Best pad Thai.
So good, lots of gf options even on lunch specials.
AMAZING, DELICIOUS, 5/5
Boonsong Thai is beyond Delicious
My wife and I have tried many Thai food restaurants and No Thai food around
New Jersey can compare to Boonsong Thai
Every item on their menu is always CONSISTENTLY GOOD and the owner loves what he does!!

Good food at decent prices. Go with many and share dishes. Particularly like the pineapple fried rice.
Great drunken noodles!

Very friendly people. great food. Would definitely recommend this place.
Typical vibe. Food was unflavorful. Service was good.
A great spot for some thai food. Try the crispy duck!
Stopped for a business lunch and was very impressed with the tastiness of the Thai food - everyone was very pleased with their lunch order. The owner suggested the sweet/sticky coconut rice and Thai custard (Mung bean pudding) for dessert. One of the best desserts I’ve ever tasted. Better than my Mom’s rice pudding. Would definitely come back again.
Best thain food in the tri state area love the shrimp pad thai
My friends and I came twice to this Thai place and all of us had a noodle soup dish named Yen Ta Fo and crispy pork belly Pad Kaprow to be shared, which was a delicious and unique taste that reminded me of my hometown Thailand again. Prep time was quite longer than expected but worth it!
Great veg options, clean and cool place!
The food is flavored and fresh, they are always pleasant and welcoming. The atmosphere is a little stuffy and the food that I get uses ingredients that are not fully authentic to the dish. But still pretty tasty. They can be a little pricey and portions are a little small for the price.
I always get pad see ew, wasn't a fan of the Curry puff, it's supposed to be soft and flacky but is harder and crunchy and spices over power it.
A pretty run of the mill Chinese/Thai takeout place that is also a eat-in restaurant. Flavors are very mild and not reminiscent of an authentic Thai place. Dishes like pad see ew has zero wok char and taste nothing like its Thai counterpart
Super pleased, glad I stopped in. Service and dish variety were amazing!
Food was delicious and customer service was great.
Closed during open hours
Very good food for the price
The two noodle dishes we ordered were tasty but the portions were so small, the smallest portion I've ever gotten at a restaurant probably ever. We paid for full meals but left hungry. Management was apologetic, citing inflation. We felt cheated, and won't be back.
I have been going to Boonsong for years. Their menu is eclectic and I have brought friends and family to this place. I like their curry puffs, appetizers, entrees. Their pad Thai is delicious!
Best authentic Thai food!!
I’m a huge lover of Thai food and this was a complete waste of money. Some dishes were inedible. We were really disappointed given the positive reviews. Much better places not far.
Delicious food and great service
Food is excellent!
Great. Spicy is spicy here. Great selection and Lots of noodle and vegetarian food. Highly recommended
Small portions. Okay taste.
good food , friendly helpful service in picking what food we wanted
My favorite Thai restaurant in Bloomfield. Great appetizers and entrees. Ask the owner for recommendations. He's always on point. Great service super friendly.
I’ve never left a review quite like this before, but this was an absolutely wild experience. The food merits a 4 star rating— not the best thing I’ve ever had, but solid, consistent, and conveniently located— but averaged out with this recent zero star service experience, the place as a whole only deserves 2. I’ve been getting takeout from them for awhile and though the service/ ambiance never inspired me to want to dine in, it was never negatively noteworthy before this experience. I called at 1:30 pm to place a to-go order, made a point to ask for a timeframe as to when it would be ready (as the man taking my order was trying to rush me off the phone) and was told 20 minutes. At 1:41 (as I was driving there to pick up my order), he called back reprimanding me for not being there yet and announcing he was closing and reopening at 5 (their posted hours state they close at 3 to reopen at 5). When I said I was on the way, he snapped at me to “hurry up” because he had to pick someone up from the train, asked if I could pay cash, and then demanded I give him my card number over the phone when I said I wasn’t carrying cash. When I arrived moments later, he had left someone else to handle my order which was incorrect, and she made an excuse about the chef not being there to correct it because of a doctors appointment. Like I said, the food is good, but nothing is good enough to contend with that level of gross unprofessionalism.
An excellent Thai restaurant. The food is bangin’ and the prices represent great value. Tried pad see ew, crab fried rice, and crab kow pad phed medium spicy. Curries are next time.
My husband and I have been coming here for years. Love the Tom Kha soup with medium spice. We get a large to share, which gives us two bowls each. Whatever spices they put in there are different from any other Thai place we have ever been to. Tried to replicate it at home but can't. It's the best! We also love Nam Tok salad with beef, #28 in Entrees (Chicken with Cashew Nut), and Pad Thai. Their noodle bowls are good too and very filling. Honestly, we have never had a disappointing dish.
I love this place so much, I go here all the time with my family!! The food is so delicious all the time.
Food is ALWAYS the best here
Read the good reviews but was disappointed by the quality, and portions of the foor
Delicious food, many gluten free items, well marked on the menu. We loved it!
Went there because of the reviews, but left overall disappointment. Tom Yum soup had two tiny shrimps, the shrimp and pork spring rolls (we ordered two portions), had neither shrimp nor pork, the chicken in the fried rice was under cooked.
Excellent food and service! Very casual and inexpensive place to get delicious Thai food. Service was friendly and prompt.
Excellent food. Plentiful vegetarian options.
We have been big fans of Thai cuisine for decades and have tried many restaurants in this genre in many cities. Boonsong Thai stands out as one of the best. While many places rely on over-sweetening dishes to hook customers, Boonsong Thai relies confidently on a firm foundation of base flavors that are pungent and complex. From the soups to the shrimp and chicken dishes to the noodles to the salads, Boonsong teases out the rich flavors of core ingredients with expertly employed spices—curries, coconut, peppers, fruit—to create dishes that enchant. They also have proven to be completely reliable in preparing gluten-free versions of their menu items. Throughout the pandemic, we have ordered pickup regularly from Boonsong, driving 25 minutes to get there without a second thought. They never disappoint and the service is always gracious and appreciative. When the pandemic is over, we will happily return to dine in at this friendly little restaurant.
Great food and amazing service. They consistently deliver the best Thai food!
The best Authentic Thai food! I never new I was missing out! I wish we had one here!
Delicious thai food
Great food, excellent service. We’ve been dining at Boonsong for years and have never been disappointed. Six stars!
The food is consistent and delicious. The ingredients always seem very fresh and the dishes are very flavorful. The owners are always friendly and welcoming.
Ordered several dishes to try. I'll start with the fried Tilapia filet (pla pad cha)[n chili sauce. It was fried to perfection and the sauce was spot on. The second plate we had was the minced pork(pad ga pow) sauted with hot chili, string beans, and basil leaves. It was phenomenal. My only complaint on this dish was that the egg yolk was over cooked (but this is a personal preference which I will request next time). The third plate we had was the beef fried rice (kow pad phed). This was good but the rice was overcooked. It wasn't horrible but could have been better. The last plate we ordered was the pad thai with shrimp. This was another homerun. Overall it was excellent experience. It is worth the 20 minute for me and I will definitely order from here again!! ☺
Ordered fried rice with crab meat and sprouts. Paid $2 extra for crab (instead of a different meat incl.), $1 extra for sprouts. Returned home from the snow storm and opened the meal to find not a shred of crab meat...couldn't taste or see any. So I paid extra for them to exclude a protein.
The food is great. Portions are huge. Their spice level of medium was pretty spicy so you may wanna go mild if you can't handle too much spice.
Food is really tasty. Their curries are fabulous. Peanut sauce is good too.
Fantastic food and atmosphere. Gluten free options for most dishes. Fast on food orders. I will return!
Excellent, excellent, excellent!
The food here was amazing and the service was excellent. I went for dinner on a slow day and I enjoyed how uncrowded it was. I had an amazing conversation with my date and enjoyed this food with a delicious wine.
Great food, clean and accommodating!
I came here with my first date but the food wasnt good we didnt eat much we left the food after a few bites and the girl never replied me back. My bad i chose the place.
The service is friendly and accommodating and the food is delicious!
A lot of GLUTEN FREE options!!! And they are extremely nice
Small, unassuming family run place serving up very tasty Thai fare with fresh ingredients. Thai iced tea and sweet sticky rice are especially good, along with the Pad Kee Mao (aka Drunken Noodles) which were nice and spicy.
Delicious authentic thai food. Casual and homey feel makes it feel like you're eating at your relative's home!
I love the food here.
Tried this place for the first time and absolutely loved it! I recommend the papaya salad, pad thai and the crunchy veggie dumplings are just delicious.
Awful!! Did take out of Pad Sew Yu and Vietnamese spring rolls. Through them out, both, they tasted as Chinese cooking. It was not good.
Very tasty food with a huge vegetarian selection. The owner is very pleasant and helpful
Great place to eat!!
Food is absolutely amazing!
So flavorful. I would absolutely come here again. I got a curry with a medium heat and I thought it packed just the right amount of punch!
Would certainly recommend eating here. Excellent mood, delightful dishes, great service. I recommend this place.
Excellent pho
Love this place
Very Celiac friendly. Our server understood about cross contamination, the gluten free options are prepped separately, and my lady didn't get sick! Wonderful food. We ordered an extra pad thai to go. We will be back.
I stopped in for lunch today, glad I did! The red Thai curry was great...and hot! (Don't worry though, they'll make it as spicy as you like, or not spicy at all. The owner was very nice and accommodating. Try the Thai iced coffee too!
Quiet, homely Thai restaurant. Dishes in the menu freshly prepared to order.
Local Thai restaurant high quality
Good!
Such an amazing establishment and the food was great!
My go-to for local Thai food. It’s always cooked right and the service is great.
Authentic Thai Food...love the taste!
This place is tremendous!! Best Tom kha soup ive ever had and awesome pad Thai.
Authentic Thai Food.👌🏻
Good Thai food, fast and friendly take out. Nice little eat in area.
Friendly and great service. Cozy environment to stay and all around really good food.
Awesome experience great staff the food is always fresh and tasty amazing try it for yourself you won't regret it
Delicious food. Great ambiance! Great prices!
This is the place for authentic Thai. The spices are perfect and delicious! A quiet, welcoming, low-key restaurant that is a hidden treasure. My whole family loves this place, and we always bring out of town guests, who love it too.
Absolutely Delicious Thai food! The customer service is amazing!
Delicious food. Good prices. Owner is friendly and helpful. Great pad thai
Terrific food and service...panang curry was spot on and their duck entree was wonderfully cooked. Crispy veggies in both dishes and they are generous with the spice level. Mango cheesecake was a "sweet" ending. Quiet ambiance, and byob. Nice date spot.
Great thai food good service
Good food, very knowledgeable, and many gluten free food options for Celiacs.
Very fresh, very tasty and a good selection for the lunch special. An favorite in my office!
I’ve had better thai food, but this place is local to me, comfy, welcoming, and still good food
This has become a local favorite spot. The food is always very fresh and delicious. Prices are fair. I wish the portions were a bit bigger, but I'm not mad about it. It feels very homey, particularly as a regular. Service is sometimes a bit slow, but worth the wait. They are very accommodating and knowledgeable about accommodating gluten free too which I Love.
great food great place great staff I would recommend this place to anybody
Best thai I have ever had! Lots of gluten free offerings
Good green curry and fast service
Best and most authentic Thai in the area! Whole fish is done to perfection (they fillet it for you), other dishes are fresh and full of flavor. This is the real thing. Very reasonably priced.
Great taste of Thai food served here at Boonsong Thai. I have been to many of Thai restaurants in Nj and this is the best one considering their authenticity and many of specials in the menu which you won't see in other's. Will definitely going back again.
Great little local place. This is my daughter’s favorite restaurant. We are vegetarians, and they have an entire veg menu. Best Pad See Ew I have ever had. Fried tofu app is stellar. Simple done well. Thai custard is fantastic (vegan).
Most authentic thai food in the bloomfield area
Delicious food, they are very friendly, have the food right on time when they say they will have it ready. I recommend this place..
Amazing food, quiet atmosphere, lots of choices , vegetarian substitution for a small charge.
Great quieter atmosphere, phenomenal service, and good food. What else could you ask for?
Good food
The duck noodle soup and the tomyum noodle soup are very goooooood!! Just like the one I had in Thailand!! Service is good and people are really nice :)
Delicious! Friendly. Warm atmosphere.
Solid and consistent Thai with friendly owners. Try the Pad See Ew, the Puff, whole Red Snapper, Duck curry, and if they have it the fresh mango with the sticky.
Portions were not particularly large, but they tasted great, prices were reasonable and service was very friendly and efficient. Locale is simple, very clean. We're happy and we'll come back.
Comida china de buen sabor
This has easily become my favorite Thai restaurant. Every dish is extremely flavorful, and the staff is helpful, pleasant and attentive to your needs, without interfering with your quiet dining experience. The atmosphere is peaceful and enjoyable. Overall excellent experience every time.
Good service, cannot complain
Dinner was delicious.
I enjoyed their food. The flavors were great and the service was fast enough.
Yes, the portions aren't big, but more than enough. American sized portions you can find at a burger place.
I haven't ordered delivery, so I can't attest to that, nor peanut allergies like I read in the other review, but overall great place and I'd come back again.
Good flavor but smaller portions. On my second visit, I alerted the owner and waitress that my son was allergic to nuts and they weren't sensitive to that (most restaurants are). They put peanut sauce on his salad (which I sent back) and gave him the mango cheesecake which had small nuts on top. If I hadn't paid closer attention, I many not have noticed (not to mention the menu didn't say it contained nuts). They weren't apologetic and didn't offer to switch it out at no cost. I just had to pay for it.
Good food nice place. Been here a couple of times.
Very delicious! Staff is kind and attentive without being overbearing. Will be returning for sure!
This place has a $30 minimum for delivery. I really wanted to eat here and order my $15 dish. At the time I had no car and really wanted to try it and even tip them $5-7. Even me telling them if I liked it I would probably be a lifetime customer. All I got was a sorry. I don't feel appreciated as a customer.
Second attempt at Thai and it was amazing! Highly recommend!
Have been eating here from long time. But:(
Recently ordered parang curry with chicken to go, and guess what!, there was no basil leaves and lots and lots of green beans.
I called the ower to provide a feedback. ( just to make sure they know what's going on) But they did not commit that the order was not made right and told me, that's the way we make parang curry.
So disappointed:(
We ordered a veg pad kee mao and a chicken pad khing. Both are outstanding. Fresh assortment of great vegetables cooked perfectly - still a little crunch to them. The pad khing is tremendous - perfect amount of heat and ginger. When we arrived to pick up the order we were greeted by smiling, pleasant faces and courteous staff. This our our new Thai spot for sure!
Always great, they remember my order and preferences every time, food is flavorful and fast service
Got delivery and food arrived nice and hot. Taste was very average. Pad Thai was better than the flat noodles.
It's quite tastey, you get great tasting food at a good value.
Order take away from here for first time last night. Great Thai, all meals were very good and price was fair. Would definitely go here again.
I had driven by almost everyday in the last month and was very intrigued to try it out especially after seeing the amazing online reviews. overall, mildly disappointed. food was, in my opinion, not a good value for the cost. i paid almost 30 dollars but i feel it was more worth 15. maybe thai food is intrinsically expensive? at any rate, my wife and i liked the taste but would not be trying it again at those prices.
