This was my first time here and WOW, it did not disappoint. Mainly because we had the pleasure of having Jeff as our bartender/waiter. He was phenomenal. I always order a spicy margarita and he made it one of the best I’ve ever had. He was super friendly, welcoming, and attentive. We didn’t go 15 minutes without him asking if we needed something. I would definitely come back and see JEFF!

I most literally stumbled upon this place and am so glad I did!!
For one, they have vegetarian rolls that have more than just avocado and cucumber in them so if you’re into a roll with out fish, you’ve got delicious options. I got the “always summer roll” and crab rangoons, both delish!!
Next, my server was Jeff and he was awesome!! Friendly, kind, informative and attentive but still gave me plenty of space to enjoy my “me time” meal :)
Lastly, a win for me, it just happened to be some great hits from the early 2000’s that brought me back and made this even more enjoyable!
I’ll be back in a couple weeks with a girlfriend for a day date then another date night with the hubby to try this carrot cake he told me about!

We had an amazing meal, drinks and experience at Zao Jun. We were planning on heading through the area and checked out their menu online and it looked amazing. Our server was actually the bartender Jeff who was pulling double duty and did it flawlessly and with laughter. We had amazing drinks....the crab rangoons and sauce were the best we ever tasted and so was the miso soup (got more to take home). And the veggie lo mein and short ribs bao buns were outstanding and perfectly portioned for my daughter and I to try (and still have lo mein to take home). Her and I already plan to go back and sit at the bar next time because Jeff seriously won us over with his personality as well as the food and atmosphere!!

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while now and finally got the chance to check it out, and I wasn't disappointed! Firstly, as far as first impressions go, this place definitely achieved 5 stars. It's very stylish and chic. The atmosphere and ambiance are top tier! We went around 2 pm on a Sunday, so it wasn't quite crowded yet, which was great because it gave me a great opportunity to really check the place out. The lighting, the decor, the setup, and the seating are all wonderful. I would like to go back in the evening to really be able to appreciate the atmosphere I can tell they are going for. I can tell the lighting and vibes are amazing once the sun goes down. They have a section with a bar, and they have a patio that is able to be converted to a closed patio in the winter. The staff were all wonderful and pleasant as well, and when we told them it was our first time, they made sure we understood the menu and that we were comfortable.

As far as food goes, I would say this is an Asian fusion style restaurant. There is a little something from different regions/countries in Asia with a small twist to how they are prepared or in the ingredients. You will find things like papaya salad and Mongolian beef, sushi and bao buns, spring rolls, and nigri; just to name a few. We didn't want a full meal, and we'd just had sushi not too long ago, so we settled for appetizers and dim sum. We ordered the spring rolls, chicken potstickers, chicken bao buns, braised short rib bao buns, and broccoli fries. Rating each dish in order of best to it was good, but didn't knock my socks off; I would say the broccoli fries were the best. They definitely have ruined fried zucchini for me forever. Broccoli fries will now be the go-to! The fried spring rolls were absolutely amazing as well. They were stuffed with lots of good veggies and mushrooms. The next best would be the short rib bao buns followed by the chicken bao buns. The bun itself was soooo good! It was like eating a fluffy cloud stuffed with a savory short rib or fried chicken and picked veggies and slaw. The potstickers would be last. They were good as far as potstickers go, but nothing really special there. It's just a good chicken dumpling. One thing I appreciate, though, is that all buns, rolls, and dumplings are made in-house every day and never frozen. You can definitely tell the difference in the quality and taste. As I said, we went light this time around with what we ordered, but I definitely plan on going back for more! I love papaya salad and Mongolian beef, so I am excited to try Zao Jun's versions of those dishes. In all, we had a great time and experience and will definitely be back for more!

A very good Asian restaurant and sushi bar. Our server Marisa did a great job ensuring we got what we needed and were able to have a nice meal without missing the movie we were headed to next. Prices were a bit high in my opinion, but my wife and I were not that hungry and split a meal and appetizer. It worked out well, and Marisa even brought it out on separate plates for us.

Modern Asian Restaurant that delivers true flavors!

The ambiance of the restaurant is suitable for families and dates. Having the option for a patio was a major plus!

The host and staff was attentive and made sure areas were cleaned.

The food was spot on and the pricing was very reasonable! I can see why it pulls in so much business. I would certainly make a reservation!

Wow, what can I say. Best Asian food I’ve had in a long time. Peking duck was amazing, all of the various rolls I tried were great, exceptionally fresh. The drinks were also very well made, and tasted amazing, even the mocktails were very good, same amount of effort put into them as the normal cocktails. Dessert was also amazing, had the cheesecake.

Why is this place always so slow? Every time a 10 to 20 minute wait for DD orders.

Fantastic food. Great service. Crab fried rice and Crab Rangoon were amazing. Drinks good.

Dinner with friends. Food was good except for what our server forgot to order. No notes...gotcha...Oops no dinner for one person. Family style dinners meant for 2 barely is enough...no leftovers, which is the best part.

While my wife and I appreciated the ambiance of the restaurant and the cordiality of our server, we found the quality of the food to be profoundly disappointing. The spring rolls were excessively oily, and the General Tso's Chicken lacked both crunch and flavor. Furthermore, we were disheartened by the attempt to serve us substandard broccoli in place of the broccolini, without any inquiry as to whether we would accept such a substitution. Lastly, the bok choy was overcooked, contained sediment, and was inexplicably presented in a bun basket. Overall, it was a regrettable dining experience. We shall not be returning to this inadequately managed establishment. Wishing you the best in the future.

We love Zao Jun. It is a family favorite, especially the sweet and sour chicken, lo mein and sushi. Always come back for more and it never disappoints.

This place is amazing. The food is tasty, and the sushi tastes authentic. And the Mongolian beef is seasoned properly.

The food was tasty, especially the carrot cake! Unfortunately, I can't give 5 stars since we had ordered veggied fried rice (paid extra for it) and received white rice. We also didn't receive a side order of rice that we had purchased as well. The prices were high, so we were super bummed to have paid a lot for food we never had a chance to eat. I tried calling, but no one answered, as I'm hopeful they would have tried to resolve this. I would go back though!

I get it, you were extra busy on Christmas Eve. Our 6:15 reservation was ignored and we watched the hostess seat smaller parties that came in after our 6, ahead of us. Meanwhile she gave up a 2 and 4 top table side by side which would have accommodated us perfectly. 45 mins later we had to ask for a table up front to be set for us which happened promptly, but no waitstaff knew we existed. The restaurant was so warm and our server who eventually came was amazing, but everything was so slow. We got hot soup before drinks. I was so hungry that the lack of food, drinks and then heat of the restaurant made me queasy and I had to sit in the car with fresh air while my family dined. Such a disappointing Christmas Eve dinner. Not sure we’ll be back.

After pickup I noticed a part of my order was missing. This is not the first, nor second time this has happened with delivery/pick up. Disappointing, considering the food is fantastic.

Worst service I’ve ever gotten. Would rather spend 13 dollars at Panda Express. Used to be great but now it’s trash. Finally got water after 40 mins but AFTER my appetizer came out? Had to ask twice for everything i ordered? Still missed 2 items? Didn’t tip for the first time ever. Shoutout to the waiter with the loyalty tat.

We were excited to try this place out but were disappointed to find the service was not only slow, but almost absent to begin with.

We waited 15 min before someone even came to our table. They did not apologize for the wait and at this point we knew what we were ordering already. Our appetizer ended up coming before we were even asked what drinks we would like. We were in disbelief at how continuously terrible the service was. One of our entrees never came, so at the end we had to tell our waiter to take it off the bill since he did not notice.

It’s very unfortunate because we were looking forward to having dinner here and the service completely ruined it. You could also hear other tables were having similar issues and we noticed the staff bringing the wrong order to different tables multiple times.

Brittney the blonde waitress was our waitress she was absolutly horrendous of a waitress. Came to the table one time. Witnessed my food sitting on the window for one hour on a Monday evening while they stood around joking. They then made a scene by laughing in our faces in front of guest when we told we didn’t want the sushi that sat out. Will never come back. Was once our favorite sushi place. We travel from downriver to here. Pathetic

This is the third time I’ve order take out. Each time they say it’ll be ready in 30 minutes and I stand and wait OVER an hour and a half among a lot of frustrated people standing just inside their front door waiting ridiculously long for their orders. I guess it takes me longer than most to learn my lessons, but that’s it. No mas. It’s a shame.

Our waiter John was fantastic. The food was incredible. Will be back very soon!

Wanted to try a new japanese restaurant and the wife and i decided on this place.
Everything we ordered for carryout was excellent. Sushi, gen tao chix, shishito peppers and egg drop soup.
We plan on visiting again to dine in and try some of the other sushi and hot fish dishes like the sea bass.

We ordered take out last night & no rice was provided for any of our dishes. We ordered two dishes with fried rice and one white rice for an Additional $2.00. It’s not about the price, it’s about receiving the food you ordered. It should be the responsibility of the person handing out the takeout not the person picking it up.

I am super happy with this restaurant. The service was out of this world. We had the best server ( thanks Adam!!!). And most importantly the food was to die for. I definitly have a new favorite restaurant and will be returning soon.

The food is great & service friendly. I love the spicy edamame. The sweet & sour shrimp and the lemon pepper shrimp are both delicious. The veggie fried rice is good, not great - I like more veggies (like broccoli) in my veggie fried rice. When I ordered it this week it was just peas and carrots (probably also had onions)

No rice for entree. Rolls were 90% rice, 10% fish. Use to love coming here, might be our last time.

I've been dining here and ordering delivery frequently for a few years and have genuinely enjoyed everything. But, I will be transparent that I have had a handful of experiences where the food didn't meet my expectations. Keep in mind, this is out of about 70 total visits. I discovered later that sometimes staff wasn't showing up for work or they were generally short-staffed, which understandably makes it hard for everyone else who chose to come to work. Regardless, if something wasn't right with my meal--in this recent case, I was missing a sushi roll in a large delivery order--the manager and the super sweet bartender put in the extra mile to make it right. We cannot lose businesses like this, where management genuinely cares about making something right and goes incredibly above and beyond. It's far too rare. I became a customer because I'm a sushi fiend, but I continue to come back because I know I'm always in good hands.

We have dined in twice and carried out once. The best Asian food, served hot with the freshest veggies. They know what they’re doing here! This is quickly turning into our favorite go-to when I don’t feel like cooking!!!

Great restaurant and wonderful staff. The food was yummy.

I picked up my order curbside. The order was missing the cauliflower rice. The white rice we got was half the container. The noodles we ordered were missing the chicken we added to it. The truffle edamame had no hint of truffle in it. All in all I would not order from there again.

My family agreed that there really were not any dishes that were worthwhile. Maybe the egg roll was good. The rest was quite disappointing and not worth a return unless or until the food quality and flavors can be improved.

The crab Rangoon is so good I don't want to order it anywhere else! Mongolian beef has a great flavor and the beef is always tender. Staff is friendly and helful.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place! Every time I have eaten here it is just really stellar. I love their take on Asian fusion with tons of flavor. I love their sushi as well. This time my server/bartender was Jeff, he talked me into this amazing Crispy Peking Duck style meal. It was really good. The duck was crispy, the bao buns and sauce and the crispy bok choy chips together were a hit! Sit at the bar with Jeff or dine with Jon the next time you visit, you will NOT be disappointed!

This restaurant was great. The food was incredible, the atmosphere is perfect. The only concern was service, but even this was fixed. Our server was having some issues and had to step out after first greeting us. We had been sitting for some time, when Jeff, the bartender, noticed we had been sitting at an empty table. He took it upon himself and helped get us our food and drinks. He was very friendly and made for a great interim server. Looking forward to eating here again, but might need to sit at the bar!

The door is locked at 9:05p. I called while I stood at the door and the person answering the phone told me that they closed at 9 on Sundays. I read to her the sign (see picture) that says they are Open until 11pm. She told me the sign was wrong and hung up. Mind you that the sign is paper and could've been removed or replaced if it was incorrect. I will never patronize simply because of this rude and unprofessional experience.

I ordered the “crispy” sesame chicken and it arrived very non crispy. Also the fries that came with the ribs were really underdone and came just like the chicken. I guess I shouldn’t order crispy items delivered. Now I know. Sushi was fantastic !

Nice decor - that was about it. The place was dirty - chunks of food under our table we had to avoid. The hostess barely greeted us and was uninviting, threw the menus on the table and walked away before we even finished walking over. There were only less than 10 tables in the place. The food took forever. The bao bun was soggy and fell apart right when we took it out. The waiter forgot I ordered gyoza. And the orange chicken had no flavor and was soggy, not one crispy bite.

Pei Wei or Panda Express would have been better.

Ordered a carryout of the Pepper steak and was not impressed. The steak was not tender with very little green/ red pepper and onion but unfortunately a ton of black pepper. The white rice was also hard like it was old. Even the sushi was just blah. Not a fan...

It was a to go order. After I got home I found out that my order was wrong. Got shrimp instead of chicken.

I truly enjoyed Zao Jun's exceptional service (our server's name was Casey) and upbeat atmosphere, and while the food was tasty, it did feel like it may have been missing something. My guess would be that they need to cater to more, reserved and, shall we say, "paler" sense of taste, but it would be nice if they had a Chef's Menu with more ambitious flavors and dishes. I'd still recommend stopping by to give them a try, as nothing was particularly bland - it just didn't have the same pizazz I was hoping for that you might get from other fusion restaurants like P.F.. Chang's. Overall, I'd go again and still recommend it, but I hope that they will find a way to branch out or emphasize the robustness of their more subdued flavors.

I had an amazing experience at Zao Jun Asian restaurant, and a big part of that was thanks to the bartender, Jeff. Not only is he incredibly skilled at mixing drinks, but his humor really added to the atmosphere. Jeff’s jokes and witty comments kept us laughing all night. It’s rare to find someone who can make great cocktails and keep you entertained at the same time. If you’re visiting Zao Jun, definitely take a seat at the bar and enjoy Jeff’s fantastic service. You won’t be disappointed!

I've done a lot of traveling for my job, so I've eaten at tons of different restaurants all over the world. So, I have had many servers/bartenders. Jeff is in my top 5 favorite bartenders. He was friendly, funny and accommodating. Drinks and food were fantastic.

I visited Zaojun tonight and had a disappointing experience. After driving 45 minutes to get there, we arrived at 10:15 pm. Despite their Google listing and website indicating they were open until 11PM, the hostess, Alylese, informed us they were closing at 10:30 pm as per the manager Quattro, who had already left. She also rolled her eyes at us while twirling her hair, which felt very unprofessional. Furthermore, she didn't even offer a carry-out order. This inconsistency and lack of courtesy were quite frustrating and did not reflect well on the restaurant’s customer service.

I am a foodie so I took the family here for Mothers day, best food, fast service, and we love it here so much, we will be coming back. My teen daughter is a picky eater, she loved it so much and we ate it the next day and it was still fresh. Daughter said "this is the best food in my entire 14 yr old life". Thank you for the great Mothers day feast.

What an amazing experience! This is a hidden gem of Bloomfield Hills. Amazing food all around - we loved the crispy rice and tale of two salmons sushi roll. We ordered takeout and not a single item was forgotten and it was done on time, even on an extremely busy night. We will definitely go here again and recommend anyone who wants amazing asian food to go here!

Food and service is Great!

55 degrees outside, but nearly froze to death in the booth in the SE corner. Continued blast of ice cold air on the whole table. Asked if things could be adjusted, but apparently not. “That’s just how it always is.” Hard to enjoy a nice meal while shivering.. An hour later, and just starting to get feeling back in my fingers.

Jeff the bartender made my night. He was so funny and knowledgeable about the drinks and food. He took his time to ask my preference on how I like my old fashioned and sold me on the traditional way. Let me tell you, it was the best old fashioned I've ever had!

If you want to go somewhere with great food, a zen atmosphere and the funniest bartender you've ever met come here.

Food was ready on time as promised. A quick review of the items showed that one item was forgotten which was quickly fixed. The restaurant was full but is noticeably loud. I will not order the egg rolls or spicy edemame again. The egg rolls may have been the greasiest restaurant item I have ever ordered. Just drenched in grease. Second time having ordered the spicy edemame and it is so over the top with spice that it is not edible. The Bao buns and rolls are very good.

The restaurant and staff were nice. The food was mediocre. We only had sushi, pricing was high, and was only so-so. We had rainbow roll, California roll, miso soup and spicy salmon crunch roll. Spicy salmon control had no spice to it. The rest were fine. Just overall pricey.

My order of Almond Boneless Chicken was provided according to the promised time. I have had the dish two or three times before. This time it was seasoned too, too spicy. I called to provide helpful criticism. Instead of accepting the criticism, I was told to be more specific in how I order the dish. Again I ordered the dish as I did on previous occasions, this time it was not edible for me. (after all a chef is only as good as his critic.) Perhaps the menu can be changed to indicate "spicy, hot ", or it should as the manager said, be specific in how you order.

We had an excellent experience tonight. Our Server John L was truly awesome. Having a shellfish allergy, he marked items on the menu which were safe. John L was very intentive and made great recommendations. He is a really good server! The food was top notch. The 12 hour Braised Beef Boa was off the chain tasty.

Cute, busy, fun place. But honestly, the loudest restaurant I've been in for ages. All hard walls and hard surfaces meant that I had to struggle to hear the people across the booth from me, and we basically yelled at each other all through dinner. Good drinks, all draft beer was broken.

Food was interesting and good. Lots of modern takes on classic entrees. Sushi was good, fish above average for sure. Sushi rice was excellent.

Very good server, though she was so quiet we could not really hear her over the cacophony of the restaurant.

I ordered a delivery. 15 min before the delivery ( I had set for 6 pm ) the delivery was cancelled by door dash and they told me to inquire why with the restaurant. I tried multiple times and no one answered at the restaurant

Wow, what can I say. Best Asian food I’ve had in a long time. Peking duck was amazing, all of the various rolls I tried were great, exceptionally fresh. The drinks were also very well made, and tasted amazing, even the mocktails were very good, same amount of effort put into them as the normal cocktails. Dessert was also amazing, had the cheesecake.

Update: They responded to this comment and asked me to reach out to them, which I did immediately. But nobody from their team has replied to my email. It's been more than a week. I'm disappointed but not surprised. My guess is they just want to make it seem like they are proactive in making things right. Oh well...

TL;DR - COMMUNICATION NIGHTMARE

I recently had a HORRIBLE experience, few minutes ago, trying to place a catering order over the phone. I needed to arrange a corporate lunch for June and needed to process the payment immediately due to a quarter-end expense deadline. My call was initially answered by an enthusiastic man, who I assume to be part of their staff, that this would be definitely be possible, and that he will will redirected my call to Lori, who is in charge of catering.

After almost 30 mins. of being on hold, I decided to drop the call and try again. My next try is when I reached Lori. She seemed preoccupied and hurried, which was understandable, but I felt as if she was eager to get rid of me. I could have certainly rescheduled the call for a more convenient time.

I explained my situation to Lori, and she suggested using ezcater, a platform for placing catering orders. I informed her that ezcater wouldn't work for me as they only process payments after food delivery. Lori explained that this is a common policy due to inventory considerations, which contradicted the information I had initially received from the other staff member.

I pointed out that I've successfully pre-paid for catering with other restaurants (kudos to THAI 101 for their excellent communication) and that I was hoping for the same service from them, especially since the initial staff member had indicated it was possible. Unfortunately, it felt like Lori was more interested in proving her point than assisting a potential customer, so I chose to end the conversation.

This is an Asian fusion place. The food is good but not an authentic asian food experience. It’s more of a blend which I guess is where the term asian fusion comes from. We did enjoy our meal but it was a little loud in the dining area even though it wasnt full. Will will try again on a weekday evening

Food is always great. Service in the bar area is hit or miss. Also, be sure to check your carry out order upon pickup. I've been burned a few times already.

Wanted to try a new asian place so I ordered take out. I was disappointed with the food. The rice was mush and the other food was not good. For how expensive the food was I would not recommend take out from here even though it has a high rating.

Always a fav go to place for Asian food. Must try is the lobster lettuce wraps, shrimp shumai, fried rice, and many more. A must place for a date night with amazing sushi.

We have been here twice and won’t be back. The first time was shortly after it opened and assumed it was just working out the kinks. Had take out again for Valentine’s Day and it was basically the same. Very average and overly sugared food for an outrageous price. The take out was worse because our lettuce wraps were burned and inedible and they forgot to give us rice. Perhaps we just chose the wrong time to go but we won’t be back.

made an online order yesterday. in the letter that was sent to the email, it was written that the order would be ready in 30 minutes. I arrived on time, asked if the order was ready, they said it would be ready in a few minutes. I waited an hour and a half for my order. when I approached and told about the waiting time, my order was brought to me within a minute. I understand that yesterday was a holiday and there were many customers, but there was no advance notice of such a delay. that's why I give a low rating for customer service, I spent a lot of time waiting for an order

Our Valentine's Day dinner at Zao Jun was, unfortunately, far from romantic. While the restaurant buzzed with a lively atmosphere, the food and service left us feeling deflated and forgotten.

Firstly, the **food lacked any spark**. We opted for various dishes, hoping for a flavorful adventure, but each bite fell flat. Blandness reigned supreme, leaving our taste buds yearning for something exciting. It felt like the kitchen forgot the seasoning, and the magic was missing.

Secondly, the **service was practically nonexistent**. We waited an age for silverware, a small detail that shouldn't have been an issue on a special occasion. Our server, like a phantom, rarely graced our table with their presence, leaving us feeling abandoned and unimportant. This inattentiveness, especially on Valentine's Day, was a major turn-off.

Lastly, the restaurant seemed **overbooked and chaotic**. The bustling atmosphere, while initially appealing, quickly turned overwhelming. With tables crammed together and service stretched thin, the romantic ambiance we were hoping for evaporated.

Overall, our Valentine's Day dinner at Zao Jun was a missed opportunity. Bland food, absent service, and an overcrowded atmosphere dampened the mood considerably. While we appreciate the lively vibe, it couldn't salvage a lackluster dining experience. For these reasons, I can only award Zao Jun 2 stars

This restaurant is really good!!! I went with a group for a business meeting and they ordered a variety of great food. Whatever the big shrimp was with the orange sauce was it was very good! Definitely going back!

I was tired of eating the some 'ole food for lunch so I decided to try this place and I was not disappointment. The service was good, the pricing is beyond fair and the atmosphere is very welcoming. Try the springs, they are a nice size.

They don't respect their own posted hours.

Fantastic spot! Exceptional service! Stelton spoke fluent Russian with my grandparents and took amazing care of us! Showing my grandparents how to eat edamame was my favorite part. I really liked the tea service as well. The restaurant has a separate gluten-free menu if you would like one. Really fun and eclectic spot. Definitely will return and ask for Stelton's table.

Loved the vegetarian sushi, very flavorful and fresh. The curry we ordered was bland though. Very nice ambience and prompt service!

Went back today..disappointing as sushi was not cold nor on a chilled plate. Almost not edible. Service was very very slow. We could barely get out waitress and had to ask busboy for boxes and bill to get out of there.

So disappointing!!! I came twice before eating to try different menu items since the first visit they were out of short ribs! Bao buns soggy, shumai hard, green beans covered in barbecue tasting sauce, sushi flavorless, ribs dry and overcooked. The restaurant had a nice aesthetic & the drinks were good but the food is gross! I love Pan Asian and really wanted to like this place! My sister literally gagged while eating! I had high hopes after reviewing the menu and this place let me down.

My wife and I love Zao Jun. We have tried quite a few things from the menu, but the bao buns are our favorite, hands down.
The sushi is also great. Always fresh, always delicious!
Pretty good selection of draft beer and sake. They have a full bar, and I have to say, the cocktails are very good. There are a few non-alcoholic mocktails on the menu and although we haven't tried any of them, they look pretty good on paper.
As a conclusion, if you Iike modern Asian cuisine, served in a cool atmosphere, there is no better place in the area than Zao Jun.

Ordered takeout and I guess we were hungrier than what we received. Not much food for $55.

So loud you couldnt hear anything. I got spicy udon noodles and out of the six people I was dining with my dish was the most bland. Service was unorganized. Got appetizers and they came out after the meals. Portions not worth the price

Had to wait 1 1/2 hours for an online order that was supposed to be ready in 30 minutes. When I received my food it was room temp. Disappointed.

From appetizers to main entrees, the first time food experience quickly went from five stars down to about two stars. The edamame, dim sum (supposedly house made), and sushi were worth the price and had great taste. Serving ikura in a cucumber shell as a substitute for rice and seaweed is a huge no. What a horrible experience eating that watery mess.

As a final plate, I decided to order the chicken and shrimp Chinese special plate (whatever it's called) with vegetable fried rice; completely lacks flavor and probably the worst fried rice I've ever had. I won't be returning here unless it's for dumplings. I also ordered a flight of sake, and that was underwhelming, to say the least...

This is probably one of the least authentic Chinese restaurants. I thought the photos were a bit random not to mention the bad smell lingering. The food is just average not worth what I paid for it. As far as service goes I felt like the person I got my takeout from was sort tempered, interrupted me multiple times and even though it was not busy it still was a half hour late. It’s a cool concept but it is nothing more than a slightly below average experience

This was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had at a restaurant and I really enjoyed the excellent costumer service. This was honestly the best food I’ve had in a very long time. I enjoyed the Mongolian beef, potstickers, beef gyzoa, pepper steak, and many other things. I recommend going here

Ordered the lettuce wraps and the lettuce was inedible. Chicken was good but way too much soy sauce and salt for my liking. They agreed to refund my purchase so 5 stars for service.

Ordered online & got an email saying my food would be ready in 30 min. Waited an extra 20 minutes once I arrived. Sushi and spring rolls were great but the miso soup was super salty.

First time yesterday 11/14. Walked in and the smell said hey girl hey ok! It smelled soooo good. Had a small mishap so that's why I rated service a 3 but the lovely manager took care of it with grace. At the end of the day I will walk to DQ for change for that food any day !!!.....hugs and Kisses to the chef. I'll be back today. Veg. Sushi was amazing and tum yum soup was just what I needed. Omg!

Waited 25 minutes for our drinks after repeating our order of 2 drinks, 3 times. We should have left at that point. We noticed a lot of their sushi had a spicy version, another red flag. The Hamachi sashimi was so bad we just paid for our food and left.

Tonight was my first time ever as a patron… I placed a carry out order online. When I got to the restaurant to pick up, they realized my order had accidentally been cancelled (another Katie/Katy had also placed an order online but called in to cancel it and they accidentally cancelled mine instead of hers)…
They took full ownership of the error, refunded me for my food order AND bought me a glass of wine while I waited for my food to be remade!

I have been multiple times and each time, it has been a GREAT experience. A few times by myself, one time with a friend and a few carryouts. Always consistent on food quality and service. Hidden gem.

When I order Singapore noodles, I expect Singapore noodles. Instead of a curry-influenced flavor profile, this dish more resembled an acidic tomato-base, though I'm just guessing here. The use of undercooked green and red peppers seemed far astray from usual Asian vegetablea. This dish was nothing like the meals I've had in Singapore or other American-Asian restaurants.

Quality of food is inconsistent. Have ordered take out 3-4 times; most recent was subpar. Chicken for lettuce wraps was dry; husband’s dish was entirely over-seasoned; and we should have omitted the ‘cauliflower rice.’ Nice to offer a lo-carb option but really poorly done. Portions most certainly did not warrant $25/dish. With these issues and the prices, I’m considering this recent order my last try of this place.

I never leave a review but the service was absolutely terrible. The servers took a total of 40 minutes to take our order and did not once check on if we needed drinks. I had to literally get up and ask them to take our order. The food was amazing but not worth the terrible service and I will probably have to get up just to ask for the damn bill

Worst food as I never had shrimp tempura serve cold, seems like it was cooked early. I did carry out and eat at the parking lot, it was gummy and chewy

This is a neighborhood restaurant so I wanted to like it but I don’t any longer. I ordered Mongolian beef which was just ok and then I ordered pork pot stickers that were pretty bad. I actually tasted one and threw them away.

I hate to write a bad review for a local place but I won’t be back again.

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while now and finally got the chance to check it out, and I wasn't disappointed! Firstly, as far as first impressions go, this place definitely achieved 5 stars. It's very stylish and chic. The atmosphere and ambiance are top tier! We went around 2 pm on a Sunday, so it wasn't quite crowded yet, which was great because it gave me a great opportunity to really check the place out. The lighting, the decor, the setup, and the seating are all wonderful. I would like to go back in the evening to really be able to appreciate the atmosphere I can tell they are going for. I can tell the lighting and vibes are amazing once the sun goes down. They have a section with a bar, and they have a patio that is able to be converted to a closed patio in the winter. The staff were all wonderful and pleasant as well, and when we told them it was our first time, they made sure we understood the menu and that we were comfortable.

As far as food goes, I would say this is an Asian fusion style restaurant. There is a little something from different regions/countries in Asia with a small twist to how they are prepared or in the ingredients. You will find things like papaya salad and Mongolian beef, sushi and bao buns, spring rolls, and nigri; just to name a few. We didn't want a full meal, and we'd just had sushi not too long ago, so we settled for appetizers and dim sum. We ordered the spring rolls, chicken potstickers, chicken bao buns, braised short rib bao buns, and broccoli fries. Rating each dish in order of best to it was good, but didn't knock my socks off; I would say the broccoli fries were the best. They definitely have ruined fried zucchini for me forever. Broccoli fries will now be the go-to! The fried spring rolls were absolutely amazing as well. They were stuffed with lots of good veggies and mushrooms. The next best would be the short rib bao buns followed by the chicken bao buns. The bun itself was soooo good! It was like eating a fluffy cloud stuffed with a savory short rib or fried chicken and picked veggies and slaw. The potstickers would be last. They were good as far as potstickers go, but nothing really special there. It's just a good chicken dumpling. One thing I appreciate, though, is that all buns, rolls, and dumplings are made in-house every day and never frozen. You can definitely tell the difference in the quality and taste. As I said, we went light this time around with what we ordered, but I definitely plan on going back for more! I love papaya salad and Mongolian beef, so I am excited to try Zao Jun's versions of those dishes. In all, we had a great time and experience and will definitely be back for more!
