An Asian restaurant located on Cambridge Main Street, offering noodles, rice, Thai curry, Vietnamese Pho, etc. This time I ordered chicken Pho Ga. You can choose rice noodles or egg noodles. The soup is sweet and the chicken is hard. The overall meal is small, but the price is relatively expensive.

I ordered Beef Pad Thai for lunch. The rice noodles are elastic and have a sweet taste, with a hint of salty sweetness. The beef is paired with the fried rice noodles, which is salty and sweet.

At noon, we ordered Indonesian fried rice for the third time. The fried rice was fried quickly and was salty and delicious. It was paired with fried chicken and springy shrimps. It was very delicious.

Great pork noodle soup, gluten free marked and entire meal was delicious

Best Pad Khee Mao (drunken noodles) I've had, and the crispy chicken is a must

Not variety of options for vegetarian people, but my non veg friends loved their foods! The fried rice is just average.

Editing after been here tens of times, this is my favorite Thai place around. Their thai tea- oh wow, super. Khao soi and drunken noodles are my favorite. Fried rice is my go-to option for Thai cuisine, and theirs isn't just as good as their other items mentioned above.

They make you wait until the full group has arrived, so prep if you don't want to wait in the cold.

Diner Review №12

Decent food. Requested my drunken noodles to be spicy, but was instead given a non-spicy dish with a side of chili flakes and sambal - not really what I expect. Also, I found the rule card they provide at each table, along with the rules themselves, to be amusing and unnecessary.

If I ever go back, I will deliver them my own rule card. “Diner expects dishes to be seasoned to their specifications.”

we found this place randomly walking around and happen to come in right when they opened. i’m a really picky eater and i loved everything we got so much. it tasted so fresh and the food came really hot. the pork gyoza is said to be their most popular item and.. makes sense because it was delicious wow. the service was so lovely and they made sure to ask us about allergies and if we liked the food and drink. would definitely recommend coming in.

Diner Review №14

Great little spot with fantastic food. Service was very friendly and accommodating. Was relatively quick which I consider a plus. Got in and out in 30 minutes.

Diner Review №15

If you're ever in Cambridge, you must stop by this place. The food is phenomenal and the service is even better. The standout dish for me is crab rangoon, the best I've ever had.

Diner Review №16

I wish i had a photo to post to show how amazing my meal looked but the food was too good to be able to have the chance to. This was first time at this place and I went with friends. Not only was the food absolutely phenomenal, the staff was really nice and attentive. The food genuinely tasted so well made and fresh that we all couldn’t go a couple bites without saying how delicious it was. I just moved to the area and I’m already planning on bringing family members and friends to this spot so they can experience what I did while dining here. I genuinely applaud the front of house staff and kitchen staff for the meal i enjoyed and the experience that I had. Very well done, cannot wait to go again in the future.

We recently had dinner at this restaurant, and it was a very disappointing experience. My wife had just had surgery and didn’t have much of an appetite, so we decided to share a dish (Drunken Noodles, ~$20) to avoid wasting food. The server, however, told us that everyone has to order their own dish. This rule wasn’t mentioned anywhere and felt very abnormal. We even tried to explain my wife’s situation and offered to leave a larger tip, but the server refused and insisted on the policy without any flexibility.

In an effort to avoid further conflict, my wife reluctantly ordered a soup. Then, before we even finished eating, the server came over and took our plates, rushing us out. Their rude attitude made the whole experience even worse.

What made it more frustrating was that several nearby tables were only sharing a small snack, which left us feeling singled out.

We reserve the right to pursue legal action, as this situation felt like outright fraud. We’ve retained the necessary evidence, including recordings, photos, and the receipt. We won’t be returning and would advise others to be cautious when dining here.

Food was okay, but the water tasted like soap, and I did not feel good afterwards

Diner Review №21

Diner Review №22

Diner Review №23

food is below average and overpriced

Diner Review №24

The management wouldn’t allow me and a colleague to get separate checks for a company meal reimbursement. To be helpful I suggested to do a to go order separately. I was then told I couldn’t eat onsite so we wouldn’t be able to have lunch together. This isn’t a reasonable policy and horrible customer service. Don’t done with them!

Diner Review №29

One of my favorite restaurants in all of Boston/Cambridge. The short rib khao soi MIGHT be the best dish in the entire state, it is absolutely perfect. Great beer selection with affordable prices. The staff is always friendly, and the owners are so incredibly sweet. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

The desk and seats weren’t clean and there were curry on them. Pad Thai was too sweet also. Service was ok but not very good, but they require a mandatory 20% tip.

Diner Review №33

Wonderful casual Asian fusion, service was excellent and good was tasty and fresh

Diner Review №34

So top notch in every way. A true community staple that is managed with so much intentionality.

Diner Review №35

Solid small Thai menu.

Diner Review №36

Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff, but the Orange Chicken did not have ANY flavor and was a soggy mess. I would not recommend this place based on its food. (I got takeout but I ate it within 4 minutes of my order exiting the kitchen)

Diner Review №37

Diner Review №38

Decent food, but it felt quite pricey. Some of the portions were much, much larger than others. If you want the mango sticky rice, make sure to reserve it in advance because they make a limited number each day!

Diner Review №39

This was a lovely place to eat with good appetizers and mains and great service. I only give it a 4 stars because some of the mains lacked the flavors I wished to see.

I like that the thai tea isnt too milky, they were delicious. The shumai and gyoza were very good. We tried a number of the mains- the spicy fried rice, the “fat kid at heart”, drunken noodles, etc. I wish my noodle dish was a bit more flavorful and the drunken noodles were not spicy, which is unusual as its a spicy dish. I think they should at least offer the option to make it spicier. However, everything tasted fresh and I appreciated some of the authenticity.

The staff were accommodating and the guy serving us (wish i caught his name) was cheerful and helpful. We sat outside and its perfect on a nice day.

Original street noodle is a must try

Diner Review №42

The food is extremely sweet...I should have paid attention to other reviews calling this out.

Tom kha gai soup was way too sweet - tasted like a sweet tea and didn't have the other subtle flavors (or were masked by the sugar) - I couldn't take more than a few sips :( . I did takeout otherwise if I was dining in, I would have returned it.

The fried chicken dish (Pad Krapow) was better... It is supposed to be medium spicy, but it was sweet and medium spicy but otherwise flavors were good.

We can taste Shoyu, soy sautéed taste.
This is good for Japanese.

Diner Review №54

Feel like something's changed in the past year or so. The food doesn't seem as cared for and has lost some of it's charm. not sure if just a bad day or if the chef has changed but other way feeling a little sad. still tasty but not the WOW it was before

Diner Review №55

Great lunch spot. Indonesian Fried Rice was great - tasted almost like they do it in Indonesia. Their website says they charge a 50 dollar fee for any reservation where the customer doesn't show up - which just feels like the management's frustration spilling out into public unnecessarily.

Diner Review №57

We had Indonesian Fried Rice and Pad Khee Mao. Both were really good! I’ll come back to try other foods in the menu and have Indonesian Fried Rice again!

Diner Review №58

The menu will bring back memories. Of Asian night markets .with an eclectic atmosphere.. or a road side cafe !!
Which if you have been to Asia some will blow your palate to another world of flavor !
I was lucky to stumble upon this gem!
Service was some of the best I have seen in years .
With informative staff .
I was lost in memory with the drucken noddle with chicken .. with a fried egg .
I did take out but I highly recommend afternoon tea and snacks or Cocktails with your evening meal!

If I worked this area more frequently I would become a regular!

Thank you for feeding my soul today !

And as person who’s First trade was culinary.
I am pretty picky .cause food is to nourish ,share and experience. With other beings !

Mae Asian Eatery is my favorite restaurant in the Boston area. It is one of the only restaurants that I continue to come back to over and over again. The staff is incredibly friendly and cool, and the food is so flavorful, delicious and authentically Thai. So grateful for this restaurant and the warm environment and great food that it provides! I have had most of the menu items and I recommend literally every single one of them. I have not had a meal that I don’t like from Mae Asian Eatery!

I’m sharing the experience I’ve had just making the reservation and being unable to cancel it despite calling in multiple times and they charged me $40. I had to give my credit card details so I was planning to actually show up. Had to cancel last minute due to unforeseen circumstances and there was no way to cancel!!! No one answered my calls and no online method either. I’ll never ever plan to come eat here nor will I recommend this place to anyone I know given the poor quality of customer service.

Diner Review №72

Diner Review №73

It’s not a “eatery” as google coined it. Presented like a small cosy restaurant, it brings on the image of a family diner in SEA but the pricey menu definitely does not reflect that. More like a restaurant with upsell of every entree.

It’ll could be an intimate lovely dinner spot or good you are on business per diem but not for your typical family dinner with kids.
I was not expecting take out Panda Express prices but I also didn’t expect to have to order rice separately with every main course. By the time you add the rice (unless you are keto, who would eat a stir fry or curry without rice/ bread?) and the protein, you are paying more than $20 per entree.

Indonesia fried rice (nasi goreng) has the wok hei and is flavorful. But I can get the same for less $ in the Asian restaurant right across the street with tasteful decor and larger serving.

Mango curry was alright. Feels like they just added mango pieces to a curry dish . Our friends had some gyoza 🥟 which is tasty but nothing special and they didn’t think their dishes were anything extraordinary either.

The cheapest main course we had in the group was a “street noodle” dish but the portion also corresponded to the price.

Beer was $6? and up.

Then, they slapped a 20% mandatory gratuity on our bill (group of 6).

Hospitality is good staff were nice.
Although because half our group arrived 15 min later, they wouldn’t offer seating to the ones who arrived first (probably because they are small and couldn’t afford the capacity). So it’s not a place you want to relax and be seated and hang out with drinks…

Food was also extremely slow. We sat down around 7.30pm. All our 6 orders finally trickled in at 8.35/8.40pm. Our friend’s dish which arrived first was all cold by the time the last person’s food was was the table.

We won’t go back because it’s way overpriced and overrated.

Diner Review №74

Just had original street noodles. They’re bad. Threw out half way thru

Really cute Thai restaurant. The servers and manager were great. Really friendly and knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. Beware their spice is real SPICE. Take it from a Caribbean. Food is very tasty.

Diner Review №78

During a recent business trip to Boston, my wife and I were in search of a restaurant offering Asian cuisine for dinner. Although our reservation was for 7:30 PM, we arrived early at 6:15 PM and were pleasantly surprised when the staff graciously accommodated us with a table for two ahead of schedule. The atmosphere was inviting, and the staff were exceptionally friendly, making for a comfortable dining experience.

For our meal, we started with the Crab Rangoon appetizer, followed by Bun Thom Thit and A Fat Kid At Heart as our main courses. The Crab Rangoon was quite rich, making it an ideal sharing dish for a group of 3 or 4. For smaller parties, the appetizer might be a bit too indulgent. While the main courses were not extraordinary, they offered a delightful fusion of Asian flavors adapted to Western tastes. This makes the restaurant an excellent choice for those looking to experience Asian cuisine with an American twist.

Although I am not a local and may not have the opportunity to return, I was impressed by both the food and the hospitality. The restaurant appears to be gaining popularity, as evidenced by the crowd waiting outside during our meal. I would highly recommend making a reservation in advance.

Food was fantastic! I had Panang Curry with chicken, and despite the generous portion, I was happy right through the last bite.
My wife had Cashew Gai Krob, and thought it was very good (that is her form of high praise) but did think it a bit salty. She also liked the sticky rice.
Service was great. Very welcoming and attentive. Restaurant is a pleasant, casual vibe, bright with upbeat music. Lively, happy crowd. Recommended.

Amazing place, delicious food and great service. So reasonably priced too, I couldn’t believe it! Crab Rangoon was out of this world, as well as the pineapple rice. I’ll be back!

Ordered takeout but was pleasantly surprised by the interior, would love to come again for sit down dinner. Chinese sausage fried rice may be one of the best fried rice dishes I've ever had, pork belly with broccoli (fat kid at heart is the name) was spicy and garlicky, and appetizers were all great! I'm sure this place will become a mainstay; the staff were super polite when I came in, the order was timely and even slightly ahead of schedule. Loved it all!

Edit: Finally got to try in person, staff and the owner were so welcoming and friendly, it's a small and intimate space but the food is delicious - siu mai, spicy calamari, pork belly with bamboo shoots, and Chinese sausage fried rice were huge hits (again)

Every single dish here I’ve gotten was tasty. Can’t recommend it enough. It’s great for dining, and they have outdoor seating as well.

A must have Asian food when in Cambridge

Diner Review №119

Reviewing based on lunch offerings (since dinner menu is very different and has more variety but I haven't tried them yet)

Aesthetics is nice, the staff is helpful, and food comes out quick. However I think the food itself is average. It probably doesn't help that the expectations that was set by the menu (not many choices and you must pick a dish and appetizer or get charged $10) and the hype surrounding the place sets a bar that this place is special or "fancier" than the normal southeast Asian restaurant.

It advertises itself as a fusion between Thai, Vietnamese, and Chinese, but it feels like a compromise of all three. The ingredients of the dishes are comprised of things that you can find in the US normally (for ex. Thai green curry could have had the thai round eggplants instead of Chinese eggplant, etc.) And on the subject of the number of ingredients, the chive fried dough barely had any chives (like countable on one hand for each triangle piece).

The taste of the food isn't bad, but the one main thing that stands out is how sweet everything is, without much spice. I'm not here to judge things based on "authenticity" only; it just feels like the dish didn't come together well in general for what it is.

Overall, I just don't think that there's anything that sets the food itself apart from other restaurants at least for how the lunch menu is structured.

Diner Review №130

Nice authentic Asian food. Tried thai pad noodles and drunken noodles both taste yum. Visited multiple times there and the restaurant never disappoints.

Diner Review №131

We got delivery from here last night and it was incredible. Everything is what you expect but elevated - you can tell the dishes are cooked with care and good ingredients. They also followed my request I added (to remove an ingredient) and they did and noted it on the container itself! Everything was above and beyond. My only complaint is that we didn't find this place sooner.

Diner Review №132

Diner Review №133

Still one of my favorite restaurants in Cambridge. Food is spectacular and consistent. The owners are so friendly and accommodating. Even though we don't live nearby anymore, we still make an effort to bring our out-of-town friends and family to this local joint. They also sell alcohol now too!

Diner Review №137

Great small restaurant. Quick to ask about and make substitutions for food preferences or allergies. The owner took our order, his wife is the chef. Try the Kah Moo small plate. The fried coconut fritters in it are amazing and like nothing I’ve ever tried before and they are from the chef’s hometown.

Diner Review №140

Small portions of basic taste for an exorbitant price. That includes the drunken noodle everyone seems to be raving about. We did take-out though. I mean, maybe it's so mind-blowing inside that anything will start tasting good? I wouldn't know because the one time we actually decided to dine in, it was a Sunday and they were closed. The service was friendly and fast. The menu had interesting foods that I hadn't tried before, such as a coconut fritter that was very good. Note that they have a table time limit of 60 minutes for 1-3 people and 90 minutes for 4+ people since it is a small restaurant with limited seating. We didn't stay longer than those ranges though, so I'm not sure if they're enforced.

Diner Review №155

Amazing Thai food. Owner is lovely. A must try for lunch. Value and taste spot on.

Diner Review №156

What a great place! The chef creates Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai dishes based on her mother's recipes (Mae means "mother" in Thai). The interior is lovely, as were the staff, and the food was delicious. I got A Fat Kid at Heart, a pork belly dish, and highly recommend.

Diner Review №157

SO the food is delicious and the people are VERY nice but the portions are a little small I paid 16 bucks for this plate with a handsome amount of broccoli and literally like 9/10 small pieces of chicken im sad i got home and opened it to see this. Again delicious but not too happy about the portion for the money BUT i would return NO DOUBT.

Diner Review №162

I ordered lunch at 12:07 and maybe they’ll deliver at 12:55 maybe. I think the problem was I ordered iced coffee and that took like an extra 25 minutes to make or something. I hope it’s good better not be in a hurry if you need this place.

Diner Review №163

Loved their noodles. I was craving on Asian food because I had only western cuisine for a few days. Found this spot by walking around MIT. I didn't expect much but the food was great and the customer service was super good.
Try this spot out!

Diner Review №164

The hallmark of good Chinese food to me, is food that isn't too greasy, with light, well-balanced flavors. This restaurant hits all the marks for me. I ordered the Chinese fried rice with sausage and my two friends shamelessly stole maybe a third of it from my plate. They also have a wonderful way of frying an egg over easy so that the outsides are crispy and the whole thing puffs up.

Diner Review №165

Diner Review №166

Best Thai food I’ve ever had! My husband and I went to the Mae’s for dinner for our babymoon over the weekend. We were so impressed with the husband wife team of owners and their attention to detail from the over the top service to the obvious care they put into selecting the ingredients to their dishes.
I had the GRASS FED beef, drunken noodles and my husband had the 12 HOUR BRAISED SHORT RIB Khao Soi. Both were amazing.
We highly recommend Mae’s and will definitely be back!

Diner Review №173

We have been coming to Mae for several years. To be honest, the quality of the food is really good! However, for some reason, the portions of several dishes we tried recently ended up being very small. Specifically, I ordered their singaporean noodles special with pork and shrimp. It came with 2 small pieces of pork and 2 shrimps. It was ridiculous. Same with my wife's dish. We left Mae hungry after dinner. Will not be returning unless the portion sizes and quality are both worth it. This is not what you expect for a thai restaurant which is on the expensive side ($16 a dish).

Diner Review №180

Food very tasty and service is fabulous.
We ordered the drunken noodles with beef. They source grass fed beef from New Zealand and you can tell the difference in quality in the first bite.
We also ordered the pad krapow Gai, a ground chicken dish with bell peppers and onions that’s in a sweet and spicy sauce.
Both lunch entrees came with a side; we chose the chicken Tom yum soup and the fried chive dough pancakes. Both were amazing.

Everything we ordered was amazing.
The ambiance of the restaurant is great and we are excited to come back and try the dinner menu.

Would definitely recommend Mae Asian Eatery to everyone!

Diner Review №181

God, this place is good! Try anything and you wont be disappointed. Khao Soi is real special. More of a curry than a soup, but it WORKS!

Diner Review №182

Diner Review №183

Some of the best and thoughtfully made Asian food I’ve ever had. Mae is a gem and have never gone wrong with any of the dishes I’ve ordered from here. Esp the Khao Suey and Nasi Goreng are to die for!

Diner Review №184

Great pad thai. A little overpriced, or maybe that's just inflation.

Diner Review №185

I judge all Thai restaurants based on their pad Thai... now I'm no expert, but Mae's pad Thai is the most different and delicious I've ever had. It's much more savory than what you'd expect, and mildly spicy at baseline! Also i picked it up at least 15-20min late and it was still warm enough for me to enjoy it. Will definitely return again!

Update: I ordered the pad thai for takeout again, but this time i picked tofu... it was lacking flavor. I think the crispy chicken sauce was the hidden special flavor in my review above!

Always great food and friendly staff. Lunch special portion is a little big, but so good you finish it all anyways

An unassuming gem, Mae Asian Eatery is our new go-to for Thai food in Central. You'll be greeted by the owners with smiles on their faces and they'll care for you like you're eating at their own home.

Fantastic restaurant in Cambridge, great food, even better service. Highly recommended!

Diner Review №200

Pretty surprised it was getting such good reviews. Went with a few friends who wanted to try it and the food was in general very mediocre. Service was good, if not slightly overbearing. The Pad Thai was very bland and dry, and for some reason the peanuts were off to the side and the green onion we not chopped up. Friends thought it was pretty mediocre as well although my friend’s green curry was actually pretty good.
